Check Out Horizon Forbidden West Combat in Action in New GIFs

As the game’s release draws ever closer, developer Guerrilla Games has steadily been revealing more of the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West, with their latest blog posting detailing more on the game’s combat mechanics. Head down below to learn more on how Aloy will deal with the enemies standing in her way in Horizon Forbidden West.

Combat evolved

For the team at Guerrilla, one of the goals for Horizon Forbidden West was to significantly evolve the combat design from Horizon Zero Dawn, and to continue to build on the principles of player freedom and choice during encounters in the open world.

On Aloy’s combat mechanics, Charles Perain, Combat Designer, had this to say

“Our changes to combat design stayed true to Aloy’s identity. First, we wanted to add additional depth to gameplay and increase the skill cap for players, through skills like melee combos and Valor Surges. Players who spend some time perfecting their combat skills will find some efficient and stylish ways to dispose of their enemies. Second, we wanted to cater to a variety of playstyles and really focus on freedom of choice. Through new weapons and outfits, which can be upgraded at a workbench, players can adapt their tactics. Finally, we wanted to design challenging enemies that encourage players to use all their abilities and skills. A whole new set of machines as well as advanced human enemies will keep players on their toes throughout the game!”

Authentic animation

The skill tree has been overhauled and restructured, featuring many new abilities that promote and enhance different playstyles or combinations of those. From an animation perspective, increased possibilities for Aloy and her enemies presented some unique challenges for the team.

Richard Oud, Gameplay Animation Director at Guerrilla, describes the animation process for Aloy in the blog:

“We extensively research to understand the anatomy and locomotion of a character. There are lots of differences between animating a human or a machine, however the core pillars for what we wanted to achieve with both were very similar.’

‘First, we wanted to create clarity for players. Each human class or machine is designed around a clear gameplay function, which the animation team communicates to the player through actions, posture, and motion. We rely on readable silhouettes and behaviors that the player can recognize, so you can anticipate or react to an enemy move. We play around with the timing of those movements to not only create windows of opportunities for the player to strike, block, or run, but also to show some personality traits in the animations themselves.’

Bringing battles to life

And those combat cues do not only exist in visual form; Guerrilla’s Audio team plays a pivotal role in breathing life into these epic battles. Senior Sound Designer Pinar Temiz explains how machines, unique enemies to the world of Horizon, have to sound just right.

“Our main challenge for the machines was to balance the established sonic characteristics from Horizon Zero Dawn with the freshness and complexity of the new surroundings and machine types in the Forbidden West. There are machines with even more expressive animations and world functions in this new frontier — which required even more detailed sound design to match. We had to apply what worked well in the first game and build a sound palette that made each machine come to life, while keeping them unified in their ‘Horizon-ness’.’

Awe-inspiring Machines with unique abilities

Sound isn’t the only thing that makes the machines in the Forbidden West more impressive and threatening than before.

“The team did a lot of research to get to the core personality and character traits of an enemy, as we were looking to make the world as authentic and immersive as possible,” Richard explains. “We’d usually start with a full enemy overview, including its intended strengths and weaknesses as well as keywords and traits that could fit the character. Then we’d start studying nature documentaries, feature films, encyclopedias, comic books, concepts art, and more — anything that will help get to the core of the character.’

New enemies to deal with

Aloy does not just encounter many threatening machines in the Forbidden West… She also has to deal with an increased number of human enemies, for example with Regalla’s rebels, a faction of the Tenakth tribe. This led Guerrilla to focus on a more in-depth combat system for encounters against humans, including new enemy classes with their own combat behavior and functions.

Gear up for the Forbidden West

Despite all the danger that lurks in the Forbidden West, Aloy will have plenty of opportunities to gear up and prepare before facing the worst of foes. It’s up to you to decide how to approach a situation, by using your skills, the surroundings, and the cues that the world gives you.

‘The scanning mechanic from Horizon Zero Dawn is still in place, and will highlight your opponent’s weaknesses as well as their movement path. Don’t forget to craft potions and keep your berry pouch filled to the brim in case things go awry. And lastly, mix all the new traversal tools with our combat mechanics to create truly spectacular action!”

Battlefield 2042 Mouse Aiming Issue Explained by DICE, Audio Changes & More Coming in Next Patch

While DICE has already acknowledged the Battlefield 2042 mouse issue that surfaced with last week’s patch, one DICE dev has went out of his way to explain the nuances of it, and how a oarticular Battlefield 2042 mouse aiming issue compares to other games.

Over on Reddit, BF2042 Gameplay Designer Florian Le Bihan responded to a thread which claims Farming Simulator 2021 has more accurate mouse input than Battlefield 2042. Here’s Le Bihan’s complete comment that even has a link to an example:

To kick things of, I’m not disagreeing on the fact that mouse aiming may have issues right now. We have eyes on it and we’re actively investigating what can be wrong and how we improve this amongst other input related issues.

However, I was curious about what Silk showed in this video and gave this software (Mouse Movement Recorder) a go to better understand what information it actually gives and I think the testing isn’t really showing anything that can prove any issue sadly. It doesn’t show a problem at least for mouse input acceleration because it can’t really clearly show that clearly in FPS games.

From testing, having both green and red is perfectly normal for FPS games or any shooters and games where the program needs to lock the pointer to screen center. This is actually what the green & red mean here, they indicate that the pointer is being re-positioned on positive or negative axis which you will find in any shooter games most likely.

If Farming Simulator locks the mouse pointer too, you should see both green & red most likely, specifically when giving diagonal mouse input, you’ll get a lot of red because the repositioning will be negative. This is not shown in the example of the video but if some input updates are green then some are most likely also red red depending on the movement.

This can be seen on games where we know the mouse input is probably some of the most consistent and responsive in the FPS industry like CSGO. Here is an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MdOaVKj9dU

Le Bihan isn’t done there. Over on Twitter, Le Bihan has responded to some gamer concerns and whether they are being worked on. We’ve included the player reports that Le Bihan has confirmed will have fixes in the next title update, which includes audio changes for footsteps cofirmed!

Bear in nind that the stuff listed above aren’t the entire list of fixes being rolled out or worked on by DICE, but rather just some that Le Bihan has confirmed that are in the works.

Sloclap Talks Sifu – Inspiration, Aging and Martial Arts (Interview)

Possibly one of the most intriguing games headed to the PS4, PS5 and PC next year is Sloclap’s Sifu — a game that’s not only about martial arts, but about aging as well. MP1st had the chance to talk to Sloclap about the upcoming brawler, and we asked about the aging process, bosses, and more!

Talking to us about the game is Executive Producer Pierre Tarno, who gave excellent answers on the questions we threw his way.

MP1st: Does dying play any role in the narrative? Will the assassins/enemies react differently to say facing off a younger version than an older version of the main character?

Tarno: Enemies will react to the main character rising back up after dying, but they will not react differently depending on their age.

MP1st:  Is Sifu a timed console exclusive? What’s the deal there? 🙂

Tarno: Nothing to share yet there but if that changes we’ll let you know!

MP1st:  Will there be different fighting styles like in Absolver? If so, how does that play in the whole death mechanics? For example, if I opt for one fighting style over another will the main character become more proficient in that style? What about upgrades and skills, will those act differently as the character ages?

Tarno: There are hundreds of fighting combinations in Sifu but it’s wholly different from Absolver in that it’s all in real time and not card-based at all, and also rooted in the Pak Mei style of Kung Fu – so you will never come across someone doing Drunken Boxing or Karate like in Absolver. The game is focused on a single fighting style but the variety of moves and combinations keep things fresh and feeling unique.

Regarding skills and aging though, aging does not have a negative effect on your skills. You will lose maximum health as you age but the trade off is that you have more offensive power.

MP1st: Let’s say I’ve learned all there is to know about Sifu, and become a “master” of Kung Fu and all. Is it possible to beat the campaign without ever dying and/or aging?

Tarno: Yes!

Sifu

MP1st: Is this how difficulty is being handled? The less you die the “harder” it is, or the more you age the “easier” fights become? Are there difficulty options?

Tarno: We want Sifu to challenge players and to encourage them to learn, improve and adapt. The ability to rise up from death will help new players by allowing them to fail and try again multiple times when they face difficulty. But the price of mistakes will rapidly increase, and in order to fully complete the game they will have to master the combat system.

There will not be difficulty setting at launch, but this is something we may implement later.

MP1st: How old can the player get? If you can’t answer that, I suppose, can players only die so many times before it’s game over? How does that work?

Tarno: The more you die, the faster you will age. This takes the form of a death counter: the first time you die, you’ll age by one year. The second time, by two years, the third by three, and so on. The only way to lower or reset that counter is to use one of the available shrines or beat specific enemies such as the chapter bosses.

Ending a chapter will reset your death counter, but your age will not be affected. There is no way to get younger, you will only get older as you fall and get back up – you can cheat death for a while, but in the end time catches with everyone. Past a certain age, you won’t have enough life left in you to sustain the pendant, and you won’t be able to get back up anymore. Your ultimate death will translate into a definitive game over.

MP1st: Ballpark estimate for the campaign length? Can we expect it to be as long as Absolver? No multiplayer this time around, what can players expect in terms of replay value?

Tarno: The campaign length will vary depending on the Kung Fu skills of the player. In terms of replay value, there are a couple of hidden secrets inside the game that might take a couple runs for players to fully understand.

MP1st: Let’s talk about the DualSense how is the team utilizing the new PlayStation controller? Obviously I don’t know the control scheme of things but I can imagine if say the block was mapped out to one of the triggers there might be some forced feedback? Tell us something.

Tarno: We can’t go into too much details yet, but Sifu will support PS5 specific features, including haptic feedback!

MP1st: My dad was a grandmaster in Ngo Cho Kun Kung-Fu (and Praying Mantis), and I practiced Kung-Fu, MMA, arnis, and other martial arts growing up, as well. What particular style does Sifu use in the game? What martial arts are its inspiration?

Tarno: Wow that’s awesome! The style we are focused on for Sifu is the Pak Mei style. Jordan (our creative director) and myself, as well as others in the studio have various backgrounds in martial arts but Jordan specifically trained in the Pak Mei style. We’ve worked closely with a sifu here in France to make sure the details of the Pak Mei study are represented accurately in the game. There’s so much history and nuance across all of the styles but we’ve been super inspired by diving deep into this one for Sifu.

MP1st: Can SloClap name who their martial arts advisor(s) are in terms of background?

Tarno: Absolutely – we’ve worked closely with Benjamin Colussi, a Pak Mei master and the Sifu fight choreographer. Benjamin has been studying martial arts since he was 14, eventually making his way to China to study under a master there.

MP1st: Are the devs of SloClap familiar with the Yip-Man series of films or even Once Upon a Time in China (Jet Li’s)? What films inspired Sifu in terms of martial arts and combat choreography?

Tarno: The list is not exhaustive, but for the immersion and impact feeling : The Raid (Gareth Evans), John Wick (Chad Stahelski), Sha Po Lang (Wilson Yip), Tom-Yum-Goong (Prachya Pinkaew).

Jackie Chan’s movies for the one versus multiple enemies and use of environment : Police story (Jackie Chan), Dragons Forever (Sammo Hung), Miracles (Jackie Chan).

And other ones, not necessarily Kung-fu movies, but references we liked that influenced our work story-wise : Fearless (Ronny Yu), The Blade (Tsui Hark), Blade of the immortal (Samura), Kill Bill (Quentin Tarantino).

MP1st: In terms of weapon combat, will the game feature any weapon-based martial art like arnis (kali), knife-fighting and the sort?

Tarno: No, the game is focused on Kung Fu, and some traditional weapons like the long staff will be available at different points of the game, as well as some more crude alternatives (machete, metal bar etc.) More exotic martial arts weapons will be used by some of your enemies.

MP1st: What made Sloclap decide to focus on the Eastern-side of the world? I mean, in terms of setting, combat and the like, it’s clearly inspired by Hong Kong, and other Asian countries’ form of combat.

Tarno: We set out to make an authentic Kung Fu action game and setting it in a fictional Chinese city made the most sense to us. A lot of the original members of Sloclap have or still practice martial arts and take it very seriously. That’s why we enlisted Benjamin Colussi, a master himself, to join the team and consult with us to make sure every detail in our combat and things like the Wuguan were authentic in details.

MP1st: In martial arts movies, a “boss” or the main villain usually gives our hero a run for their money due to how well-versed they are in combat. Is this the case in Sifu? Like, will players feel that bosses and main villains will be better in combat or is it more of a case of these enemies having longer health bars, they take less damage, etc.?

Tarno: Bosses in Sifu will offer a very different gameplay experience from other fight situations. We want them to push players to their limits and force them to adapt to different and changing patterns. Bosses will each have a specific style of combat.

We’d like to thank Sloclap for taking the time out to speak to MP1st. Sifu will be launching on the PS4, PS5, and PC February 8, 2022

COD Vanguard Season One Overview – Here’s Everything You Need to Know

Starting December 8, Call of Duty players are welcomed to partake in a new era of the game as the COD Vanguard Season One overview is here. Detailed in a hefty blog, here’s everything you need to know about the Vanguard multiplayer experience, the brand-new Caldera map coming to Warzone, and everything new coming with the game’s latest Battle Pass.

COD Vanguard Season One Overview

COD Vanguard Season One Overview

  • Vanguard Owners Drop in on December 8. Play the new Pacific map, Caldera, a day early by owning Call of Duty: Vanguard. Rebirth Island will remain live during this time for all other players.
  • The Battle Pass: The Best Value Gets Better. Three functional weapons, two Multiplayer Perks, new Equipment in Vanguard, as well as other unprecedented free items in Tiers and dozens of other items in the full Battle Pass.
  • Tips of the Three-Pronged Spear. S.O.T.F. Trident is prepared to pierce through the Pacific, with Francis “Kai” Lanakila arriving first with the Season One Battle Pass.

Purchase Call of Duty: Vanguard before December 8 to participate in a 24-hour Caldera exclusive access event in Warzone Pacific, which begins on December 8 at 9 AM PT. Digital copies of Vanguard come with immediate access to Caldera during its 24-hour exclusivity period, while those who purchase a physical version must install and boot Vanguard and get past the initial interactive screen to gain access to this Warzone Pacific event.

The Season One Battle Pass for Vanguard and Warzone is set to offer a new standard in value, both within the free Battle Pass System and the full Battle Pass containing access to up to 100 Tiers.

  • Three Free Functional Weapons. Two New Perks. New Equipment. All Free. Period.
  • Over 30 Free Items, Including Some for Clans. 300 COD Points, Weapon Blueprints, and more. Earn even more items by joining a Clan with friends, then party up to get that 10% global XP boost.
  • Trident’s First Operator: Francis “Kai” Lanakila. Here for a good time, not a long time. Purchase the Battle Pass to unlock him immediately at Tier 0.
  • A “Battleprepped” Legendary Skin, Free with Battle Pass Bundle. Pick up the Battle Pass Bundle to get access to all 100 Tiers, skip ahead to Tier 20, and grab a menacing new skin for Polina.

Over 120 items are yours to unlock through the free Battle Pass System and all 100 Battle Pass Tiers in Season One, including several Tiers that stack two-for-one rewards with one exclusive for Vanguard and one to use across both Vanguard and Warzone.

These items include Highlight Intros and Killcam Vanities, the latter of which wraps a fancy or gnarly border effect around an enemy as they see their demise. But when it comes to making those highlights and looking good while doing it, you’re going to need some new Weapon Blueprints and Operator Skins.

Weapon Blueprints

Those looking to bolster their Loadouts will want to grab over a dozen Weapon Blueprints across the Battle Pass, including the following:

Epic “Headhunter” Assault Rifle Blueprint (Tier 5) – A ten-attachment armament focused on precision and hard-hitting shots. Its 20 hollow point short rounds per magazine will do plenty of damage anywhere on a target, with a 3.5x rifle scope granting great visibility to the shots that can be made easily be made downrange.

Legendary “Dirtdigger” LMG Blueprint (Free for Clans at Tier 55) – Send the opposition six feet under with a 10-attachment weapon built to act like an assault rifle. A fast belt and the Discard Proficiency makes it easy to swap magazines in between engagements (just be sure to have Scavenger handy), while the weapon’s Barrel and Stock make it easier to move around the map. Rather use it as a traditional LMG? Flip the sights from a 1.5x to 4.5x magnification to get those longshots.

Legendary “Gargoyle” Sniper Rifle (Tier 71) – With a design seemingly ripped from the side of a stained-glass building guarded by a sinister gargoyle, this 10-attachment rifle can keep your Operator unflinching like stone day or night. Meant for more mid-range engagements due to its 3.5x rifle scope, a sniper can make use of its fully loaded Lengthened three round fast mags to deal with small groups quickly.

Legendary “Bullseye” Handgun (Free Tier 81) – With this nine-attachment revolver, an Operator can down enemies as swiftly as the eagle brandished on its handle. Its all build around an experimental barrel that deals one-shot headshots in Multiplayer. With other attachments keeping the weapon accurate, as well as a scope that can have up to 6x magnification, an Operator can use this Secondary to shock a foe downrange.

Operator Skins

Want new gear for your Operators? The core twelve special forces are prepared for the Pacific with new skins, including:

Halima “Desert Cover” Skin (Tier 10) – Whether the fight rages in the arid North African deserts or the humid Pacific jungles, Halima is prepared with her warm-weather gear.

Shigenori “Konara” Skin (Tier 20) – Deal fatal blows to all foes under the Caldera forest’s dense canopies as Shigenori, who brings his custom foliage-fitted gear into the fight via the Battle Pass.

Polina “Rising Legend” Skin (Tier 90) – Outside of her signature ushanka, Polina is geared up for the Pacific with a uniform designed for the humid conditions and tropical environment of the battles ahead.

These Operator Skins, Weapon Blueprints, and other Loadout and Player Profile items are all on top of some COD Points: 300 across Free Tiers in the Battle Pass System and another 1,000 within the full Battle Pass.

Add in two Vanguard Multiplayer Perks and a new Lethal Grenade for your Loadouts — all completely free to earn — and you have plenty of value to get outside of some awesome rewards at Tiers 95 and 100.

Following some more Legendary items in the next few Tiers — including 100 COD Points for free at Tier 98 — your reward for reaching Tier 100 is worthy of a true warrior:

  • “Awoken” Legendary Francis Skin. Don the mask of a fearsome fire legend with this Legendary Skin, designed for the first Trident Operator to the fight.
  • “Harvester” Legendary Assault Rifle Blueprint. A 10-attachment configuration for the new short-ranged Assault Rifle, the Harvester is all about pumping out hard-hitting damage against enemies and their technology with great speed and agility.
  • Title, Emblem, and Charm. Let the lobby know you are ready to light it up with a new Title, Emblem for your profile, and a fiery Charm that can be placed on nearly any weapon of your choosing.

Pacific: Bundle Overviews

In addition to the first Bundle for the Welgun and Katana, along with Operators Francis and Isabella, Season One will bring a host of new Store content, including the first Pro Pack in Vanguard.

Fit for a fight in the Pacific, the Skull Collector Pro Pack contains seven items on top of 2,400 COD Points for only USD $19.99 SRP or your regional equivalent — essentially, a free pack of Legendary items if you were already planning to pick up 2,400 COD Points in the store.

VANGUARD MULTIPLAYER OVERVIEW

  • Multiplayer Heads Across the Pacific. Prepare for Paradise, an all-new map based in the Pacific, and remember your Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 3 Dome strategies for Radar.
  • Control Returns, another Returning Mode Dropping In-Season. The competitive mode will arrive in the launch window of Season One, while veterans of the franchise may want to get in the zone for a festive surprise later in season…
  • Get Intuition, Serpentine, and Incendiary Lethal Grenade in Battle Pass Free Tiers. Know your enemy’s position, take less damage on the move, and lock down objectives.

New Maps, Including MW3 Dome Remake Radar

Paradise (Launch): A weapons testing site somewhere in the Pacific Ocean hosts all task force Operators for joint exercises. Medium-sized three-lane-style map featuring an underground tunnel and pools of toxic waste.

Radar (Launch): A reimagined version of Dome, the classic Modern Warfare 3 map. This small radar station in the Pacific is built for fast-paced combat. Remember to not camp on the catwalks!

Control Returns (Launch Window)

Best known as a popular third mode in competitive Call of Duty, Control will see a return in Vanguard Multiplayer in the launch window of Season One.

Control mixes the limited-life nature of Search and Destroy with the objective style of Hardpoint and the elimination-centered gameplay of Team Deathmatch. Two teams alternate between attacking or defending two fixed capture zones on the map with limited respawns. Attackers either have to capture both zones or completely eliminate the Defenders before the time limit.

Two New Perks and Incendiary Lethal Grenade for Loadouts

Serpentine — Perk 1, Tier 21 of Season One Battle Pass

  • Sprinting reduces incoming damage.
  • Breaking out into a regular sprint slightly reduces all damage from ballistics and explosives, while Tactical Sprinting can cut damage by more than a quarter of its normal value.

Intuition — Perk 1, Tier 44 of Season One Battle Pass

  • Your vision pulses when enemies are nearby, even through walls.
  • Similar to High Alert in previous games, but with shorter range, Intuition allows you to perceive threats before they round corners or burst through doors. This is done without the need to suppress them like Piercing Range, making it a more passive option for those looking for more close-range engagements.

Special Incendiary Grenade — Lethal Equipment, Tier 39 of Season One Battle Pass

  • Obscures an area in a white fog and burns those who come close.
  • A handheld and extremely limited version of the Firebombing Run Killstreak, the Incendiary Grenade deals a small burst of damage within a large radius at the detonation point, then deals burn damage every second to those who stay within its range. This damage scales the longer someone is within the area and lasts for a longer time than its rivals, the Thermite and Molotov Cocktail.

VANGUARD ZOMBIES OVERVIEW

  • Prepare for the Purge and New Covenants. A fresh Objective to conquer at season launch, as well as 14 new ways to use those Sacrificial Hearts.
  • New Weapons and Challenges. Bolster your loadouts with five new weapons, bring launchers into the fight, and complete new Career Challenges and Season Challenges for unique rewards.
  • Tome of Rituals, Support Killstreaks, New Area, Holiday Updates, and More In-Season. Upgrade those Artifacts for more powerful Dark Aether abilities, discover new secrets in Von List’s Office, and craft powerful Support tools to use against the undead threat later in the season.

Treyarch is preparing new Zombies updates for after the new year, which will include more content and features:

  • The Tome of Rituals. Your Artifacts will be able to grow in power through the Tome of Rituals, offering greater Dark Aether abilities to aid in your survival.
  • Von List’s Office. Few know what Von List is hiding in his personal quarters, but it may offer clues as to Kortifex’s plans. Dark secrets may also be waiting beyond a mysterious new portal…
  • Support Killstreaks. The devastating Warmachine and Deathmachine will be ready to help you fight the rotting masses, so long as you have the Salvage to spare at the Crafting Table (or get lucky at the Mystery Box).
  • Additional Features. New weapon unlock challenges, Mystery Box weapon updates, Server Pause functionality, and more are planned for later in Season One, including festive new holiday theming in Stalingrad.

Season One Challenges and Events

Season One launch is the kickoff for the Festive Fervor celebrations to come, as well as all the pulse-pounding free content when the new year arrives.

Expect more intel about Festive Fervor later this month. And as you prepare for the holidays, remember that the season of Prestige is upon us!

At the start of Season One, your Season Level will refresh to Level 1 and your progress will resume from the highest Prestige Level you achieved previously — three, if you reached the top level during the pre-season.

Starting with Season One, every 10 levels within Prestige offers a new Zombies and a Multiplayer/Warzone Pacific Challenge to complete for XP and a Calling Card. Complete all 20 within a seasonal set for that game mode to unlock an incredible animated Calling Card that shows off your elite abilities.

This season offers four additional Prestiges to achieve across the first 200 levels, as well as a new Weapon Blueprint:

  • Level 50: New Prestige, Emblem, Weapon Blueprint, and Battle Pass Tier Skip
  • Level 100: New Prestige, Emblem, and Battle Pass Tier Skip
  • Level 150: New Prestige, Emblem, and Battle Pass Tier Skip
  • Level 190: All Season Challenges Available
  • Level 200: New Prestige, Emblem, Battle Pass Tier Skip, Master Prestige Calling Card
  • Levels 250–1,000: Ability to earn additional Prestige Levels, if they were not reached during the pre-season.

Remember: Your Prestige-leveling journey is synchronized between Vanguard and Warzone Pacific, meaning you can progress through Season Levels and increase your Prestige Level by earning XP in either game!

THE LAST HOURS OF VERDANSK

At 9 PM PT on December 7, the Verdansk we knew will be gone.

Operators should prepare to infiltrate the Last Hours of Verdansk, a limited-time mode in Warzone starting tomorrow that contains exclusive rewards for participation and victory. Those who want to play on Verdansk one last time may want to join this explosive finale, where bunkers are your only safe haven from what will come.

Remember: after 9 PM PT on December 7, the Warzone servers will shut down alongside the Season One Update. They will be back online at 9 AM PT December 8, where Vanguard owners can drop into Caldera and everyone can get back to Rebirth Island for the start of Warzone Pacific.

You can check out the official post over on the Call of Duty blog to know more about the full overview of COD Vanguard Season One and its integration with the new Warzone in Caldera.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered Getting Spider-Man No Way Home Suits for Free

Hyped for the new Spider-Man movie coming out later this month? Insomniac Games has something special for those who own Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on the PlayStation 5, as two suits inspired by Spider-Man No Way Home, the third Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland, are arriving on the game this December 10.

The announcement for the new suits was made over on the official Insomniac Twitter page, where the developers shared a brand-new trailer showing off the new skins. Check it out below:

Two new suits inspired by #SpiderManNoWayHome—exclusively in movie theaters Dec. 17th—are coming Dec. 10th to Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, only available on PlayStation 5 as part of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition!

If you’re wondering what these suits are, someone in the thread captured them individually for those interested:

https://twitter.com/wsepulved32/status/1467890803875930113

As mentioned by Insomniac, these Spider-Man No Way Home suits will only be available for Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, which as of now is only available on the PlayStation 5 as part of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition. Those playing the original Marvel’s Spider-Man on the PlayStation 4 are out of luck for now.

In case you missed it, check out our review of the original Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 where we rate it 9.5/10 and state, “It’s surprising that Insomniac’s first foray into the superhero video game scene is this ambitious, and what’s even more surprising is, the studio managed to shatter all expectations. Make no mistake, this Spider-Man game is one mean action game even without the license, though it uses it to great effect, which puts the game from “good” to “excellent” all in one go. Simply put, Marvel’s Spider-Man is one neighborhood you’ll want to swing by, and be a part of.”

Spider-Man No Way Home is showing in theaters this December 17. If you have plans to watch it, or already have tickets for your screening, let us know in the comments below!

F1 2021 Update 1.14 Patch Notes; Out for F2 2021 Season This Dec. 6

Codemasters has released the F1 2021 update 1.14 (PS5 version 1.014) patch this December 6, and this one adds the F1 2021 season for players to enjoy, in addition to the usual stability improvements and bug fixes. Head on for the complete patch notes below.

F1 2021 Update 1.14 Patch Notes | F1 2021 Update 1.014 Patch Notes:

New Content

  • F2™ 2021 season has been added
  • Addressed an issue with a lack of force feedback on Logitech G923 wheels for PC players
  • Fixed an issue where team badge and sponsors would not appear on the player’s helmet
  • Reduced time between stops when a team is double stacking cars in the pits
  • Adjusted track limits at turns 1 and 14 on Portimao
  • F2™ 2020 Sprint race will now correctly use the results from the feature race if a custom grid is used
  • Addressed an issue where Imola was using the incorrect garages for the player car
  • General stability improvements
  • Various minor fixes

You can read more on the F2 2021 Season additions in the official EA post here.

Today’s update features both F2 2020 and F2 2021 weekend structures, depending on which season you play. Unlike F2 2020’s structure, which you can choose to play through in Career mode, of one practice session, a qualifying, followed by an hour-long Feature race on Saturday, time depending on your race settings, and a Sprint race on the following Sunday, the 2021 season is slightly different. Available in Grand Prix, Time Trial, Social Play, Split-Screen, and LAN, F2 2021 has two Sprint races on Saturday, with the Feature race taking place on Sunday. Qualifying sets the grid for the feature race and the first sprint race, with those in the top ten reversing positions for the first sprint grid.

That’s about it for the F1 2021 update 1.14 patch notes.

Halo Subreddit Temporarily Locked Down Due to Toxicity Which Included Death Threats

Hoo-boy! Here’s some rather bad news for the weekend; the Halo subreddit, which has over 970.000 members, is currently (temporarily) locked down due to toxicity in the community, which includes doxxing, and even death threats.

Mod Guily-Spark- posted made the announcement, which we’ve included the keypoints excerpt below:

On all sides this has absolutely gone on long enough and spiraled out of control. The amount of toxicity on the sub from both sides has made it impossible for people to have civil discussions, which is what the mod team strives for regardless of opinion. Some users on the sub have even been responsible for doxxing and death threats. We’re temporarily putting the sub on lockdown so people can hopefully settle down a bit and we can hit the reset button before launch. At the end of the day this is a video game and this level of vitriol is unwarranted.

Take the weekend off, we’re reopening on Monday.

A few points of order:

Insults

The primary thing the mod team cares about is limiting insults and toxicity, because it makes it impossible to have actual conversation. This cuts both ways whether you are happy or unhappy with the game as-is. Someone criticizing the game doesn’t mean you get to say they’re an “entitled crybaby manchild”. Someone saying they’re fine with the game or to give it some time doesn’t mean you can call them a “bootlicking dicksucker”. All of these are things the mod team has dealt with and will continue to deal with.

If you see people breaking our rules, don’t make things worse by breaking the rules yourself. Report them, then either respond without breaking the rules yourself or just move on. If you have been fed up with the current state of the sub, post-lockdown please let us try to do the job we volunteered for and don’t immediately push it back to the state it was in.

Criticism

Despite what some people want (and despite what others think we already do), we are never going to remove all criticism or relegate all of it to megathreads. Megathreads and Focused Feedback threads are useful for reducing spam and getting rid of low-effort critiques that don’t warrant their own threads, but pushing everything into megathreads would vastly reduce what gets traction. The changes to XP/progression and confirmation of new playlists wouldn’t have happened without the community publicly making their opinions known.

At the same time, we are going to get rid of lower-effort and duplicate critique threads. The entire front page doesn’t need to be spammed by 20 of the same threads when a few thoughtful, highly-upvoted, active threads get the point across just as well (if not better). A thread with a high-effort mockup is better than a thread that’s a few sentences of ranting.

You can read more about the issues right here. For those who want to comment or share their thoughts, the subreddit is opening its doors again this Monday.

Report: PSVR 2 Input Device Patent Filed by Sony

A recent patent filed by Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan has got some heads turning, as this patent is supposedly for a PSVR (PlayStation VR) 2 input device. The patent describes a new form of handheld ‘controllers’ very different from the PSVR’s first iteration, and it points to what we could possibly see from the device in the future.

You can check out the design for yourself over on the WIPO IP Portal, where it would appear that the patent was filed internationally earlier this year, last February 26. You can check out some images of the patent for the PSVR 2 input device below:

The possible PSVR 2 input device abstract was also described:

The present invention improves the stability of detecting a light-emitting unit by using a camera. This input device has a region to be tracked in which a plurality of light-emitting units H are disposed. The region to be tracked is composed of: a to-be-tracked rear part that is positioned behind operation members in a side view; and a to-be-tracked front part that is positioned in front of the to-be–tracked rear part and extends in a different direction from the to-be-tracked rear part.

While we now have a general idea of how its input devices will look like, it still remains to be seen how Sony will innovate on the actual VR headset. In any case, just like with everything unconfirmed, take this one with a grain of salt until officially confirmed.
