Streets of Rage 4 Mr. X Nightmare DLC Brings Max Thunder Back as a Playable Character

Fans of Streets of Rage 2 will be happy to know that a veteran fighter from the classic release is making his long awaited return to the selectable roster, as Streets of Rage 4’s upcoming Mr. X Nightmare DLC brings Max Thunder back as a playable character!

Check out the new trailer showcasing Max’s reveal!

Initially a boss character who was mind controlled to fight his allies, here’s the wiki entry of Max as of Streets of Rage 4.

Max returns in Streets of Rage 4, this time as a boss who is being mind-controlled by Ms. Y. He uses most of his signature moves from the second game, like his Thunder Tackle, Spinning Knuckle Bomb and Drop Kick. He is the only boss in the game who never flinches upon taking damage from regular moves, only getting knocked by Star Supers.

After defeat, he comes back to normal and assures the heroes that he never intended to hurt them.

If you haven’t checked out the reveal trailer of Streets of Rage 4’s DLC, here’s the Mr. X Nightmare trailer released a few weeks ago to wet your brawler appetites.

Streets of Rage 4 is available for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, macOS, Linux, and PC. The Mr. X Nightmare DLC is set to be released later this year.

If you haven’t yet, be sure to read our Street of Rage 4 review! Here’s what Alex, our Editor in Chief had to say about Street of Rage 4:

Not many studios can revive a long-dormant franchise and make it work while staying true to the franchise, but the developers did just that with Streets of Rage 4. Simply put, this is one street you’ll want to fight yourself out of. Oh, and if you have someone to play local co-op with, feel free to add another .5 to the overall score since these games are meant to be played cooperatively.

We gave it a high score of 9 out of 10!

DOOM Eternal Paid DLC Skins Added Even When Devs Promised Game Won’t Feature Microtransactions

It appears that the folks at Bethesda and id Software have doubled back on what they previously said about microtransactions in DOOM Eternal, as reports have now confirmed  that there are some DOOM Eternal paid DLC skins via cosmetic packs  have been released — despite assurances there wouldn’t be any.

Released yesterday on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation, there are now two packs of skin DLC that players can purchase — namely the DOOMicorn Master Collection Cosmetic Pack and the Series One Cosmetic Pack — which you can check details below.

Here’s the DOOMicorn Master Collection details:

Missed out on the Twitch exclusive DOOMicorn Master Collection? Get it now and become Hell’s worst night-mare with new Slayer skins, podiums, animations and a new player icon and nameplate. Gallop into DOOM Eternal’s epic campaign and BATTLEMODE to put your enemies out to pasture in style or strike a pose in the campaign’s Photo Mode.

You get:

  • ‘DOOMicorn’ Slayer Skin

  • ‘Purple Pony’ Skin Variant

  • ‘Night-mare’ Skin Variant

  • ‘Magic Meadow’ Base Podium

  • ‘For Those Who Dare to Dream!’ Maxed-Out Podium

  • ‘Clip Clop’ Stance Animation

  • ‘Haymaker’ Intro Animation

  • ‘Horsing Around’ Victory Animation

  • ‘Love Conquers All’ Icon

  • ‘Super Sparkle Slayer’ Nameplate

And here’s Series One’s cosmetic pack contents:

“Missed out on DOOM Eternal’s Series One event? Grab over 12 cosmetic items, including all the character and weapon skins, custom animations, and player icons and nameplates. Fight the hordes of Hell in style in DOOM Eternal’s epic campaign and BATTLEMODE, or show off your player and weapons skins in the campaign’s Photo Mode.

You get:

  • “Ember” SE Slayer Set*

  • “Inferno Lord” SE Marauder Set*

  • “Red Rage” Mancubus Skin

  • “Rune-Scarred” Weapon Skin

  • “Caution” Weapon Skin

  • “Searing” Icon

  • “Rune-Scarred” Icon

  • “Caution” Icon

  • “Red Rage” Icon

  • “Graven Image” Icon

  • “Soul Taker” Nameplate

  • “He’s on Fire” Nameplate

To touch a bit more on these, all these DLC were at some point free for users to either earn through leveling up in the Series 1 event, or through a Twitch drop (DOOMicorn). Even still, despite them now being rotated out of the unlockable pool this does beg to question if Bethesda plans on releasing more skins that are no longer obtainable in the future. The chance to earn them may have already passed, but seeing that they did say the game wouldn’t feature microtransactions, it’s a bit surprising (or not) to see them go back on that. Only time will tell if this becomes a common trend with Doom Eternal.

On related Bethesda news, Xbox Game Studios discussed their commitment towards PC game development — which includes Bethesda titles following the company’s acquisition by Microsoft.

Thanks, Reddit (1, 2)

No official changelog has been released by the studio, but there has been a security update announced for the game earlier this week, which could very well be tied to today’s patch.

Server update: Some of you may have noticed that the servers have been online intermittently over the last week. This is whilst we test the new security updates we’ve put in place. Rest assured we are still working on resuming the service fully as soon as we can. #saveLBP

So far, that’s the latest update, but we’re keeping our eyes open and will update the post if we hear anything about today’s patch. Same as before, if you notice any changes made, let us know down in the comments below.

Battlefeld 2021 Will Have “New Modes” That Play Into “Only in Battlefield” Moments

While the Battlefield franchise’s signature mode has always been Conquest (or Rush for some people), it looks like Battlefield 2021 wil have new game modes for players to duke it out!

This was confirmed by EA Chief Studios Officer Laura Miele today in a chat during hte GamesBeat Summit 2021 digital conference. Speaking to veteran host Geoff Keighley, Miele talked about the franchise’s sandbox experience, and mentioned that “new modes” that are being added to the game are “in service” of the “Only in Battlefield” moments the franchise is known for.

Battlefield is one of my favorite franchises that we have, I’ve been working on it for a really long time and one of the best things about it is, it is about a sandbox. It is in the shooter space, out of all the games, and all the shooter, it is a sandbox that DICE has always provided players with weapons, and vehicles, and destruction in the environment, and then these crazy “Only Battlefield” moments happen as emergent play comes from players.

So you can imagine taking that strength, and taking that superpower in this franchise and building on that in the future game is definitely part of our strategy. So new modes that are going to be added to the game experience are really in service of this ability that we want to give players to have a bigger impact on their experience.

Hopefully, this new game mode will have the same level of quality as Rush. Given how Miele connects it with the sandbox experience Battlefield’s multiplayer offers, chances are it won’t be similar to just team deathmatch or any other infantry-only mode.

For those not familiar with what “Only in Battlefield” moments mean, it’s essentially scenarios that happen in multiplayer that can only happen in Battlefield that has become a staple of montages, top play compilations and more (think: running around in a scooter strapped with C4 and blowing up a chopper by launching off a dune or something).

What kind of new game mode would you want to see in Battlefield 2021? Let us know your thoughts down below.

In the same digital conference, Miele also confirmed that Battlefield Mobile will have a soft launch later this year.

Toys For Bob Hit With Layoffs as Team is Put on to Support Call of Duty Warzone

Toys For Bob, the studio most known for their work on the Spyro remake and Crash Trilogy, and as of recent, Crash Bandicoot 4, has been confirmed to have been hit with some layoffs as the studio announces their new involvement in Call of Duty Warzone.

Toys for Bob officially announced on Twitter today that they have been brought in as a support team in order to help develop content for the third season of Call of Duty Warzone.

Toys for Bob is proud to support development for Season 3 of Call of Duty #Warzone, and look forward to more to come. #LETSGO dev squads! #Verdansk84

To respond to this news, ex lead character designer for both the Spyro Trilogy and Crash Bandicoot 4, Nicholas Kole confirmed that he and everyone that he worked along with have been let go from the studio.

It’s unclear whether Toys For Bob is being placed to work on Warzone temporarily, or if it’s only a few of the staff while the rest work on another game, but Nicholas did comment saying that him or anyone on his team aren’t working on a new Spyro or Crash Bandicoot.

https://twitter.com/FromHappyRock/status/1387970132123688964?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1387970132123688964%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fmp1st.com%2Fwp-admin%2Fpost.php%3Fpost%3D150681action%3Dedit

We do hope that them working on Warzone is just a temporary thing and more so to due with the fact that they simply need some work to keep busy until their next project.
Sadly, this feels very reminiscent to what Activision did to did to Vicarious Visions, the developers behind the recent Tony Hawk Remakes. Three months ago the studio was reportedly absorbed into Activision Blizzard in order to work on the Diablo 2 Remake.

Whether this move for Toys For Bob is any indication of that is left in the air. We definitely hope that’s not the case, as we would love to see another Crash Bandicoot sequel from the studio. We’ve reached out to Activision for any possible comment on the studio’s future.

Help Hosseini to gather Irminsul Fruit Fragments and unleash their power with the Energy Amplifier.

Additionally, new missions have also been added to Realm of Diversion. Complete them to receive BEP.

Gameplay Duration: 2021/04/30 10:00 – 2021/05/17 03:59 (Server Time)
Event Shop Duration: 2021/04/30 10:00 – 2021/05/24 03:59 (Server Time)

Eligibility
Adventure Rank 20 or above

Event Description
During the event, Fractured Fruit Data can be obtained by challenging Places of Interest, Domains, and the Twisted Realm. Fractured Fruit Data can be used to exchange for supplies in the event shop.

Next, let’s look in more detail at the specific content in the event~

Explore Places of Interest
Your goal is to head to different Places of Interest and retrieve Irminsul Fruit Fragments.

At Places of Interest are strange objects called Mutation Stones, which buff monsters nearby. It is probably a good idea to destroy these Mutation Stones before taking on the monsters.

There are three types of Irminsul Fruit Fragments that can be retrieved from Places of Interest:

Now, what can these different fragments do? First, we must understand a special device known as the Energy Amplifier.

Configure the Energy Amplifier
The Energy Amplifier is a device that can activate the Irminsul Fruit Fragments. Equip Irminsul Fruit Fragments onto the device to provide characters in your party with corresponding buffs (this effect is only active in Domains and the Twisted Realm).
Energy Amplifier Configuration Screen:

Tip: When entering the event Domain while in a Co-Op team, the Energy Amplifier will automatically be switched to the Co-Op Configuration of the host (1P in the party). Please set up your Irminsul Fruit Fragment Co-Op Configuration beforehand.
Motive Force is consumed when equipping Irminsul Fruit Fragments. Use more Motive Force to equip more and higher quality Irminsul Fruit Fragments.

Your initial Motive Force is relative to the total levels of all your characters. The higher level your characters are, the more Motive Force you have.
When you run out of Motive Force, you may seek assistance from up to three of your friend’s characters to help gain more Motive Force (you may not request assistance when your available Motive Force is full).

Challenge Domains
During the event, a new Domain will be active when a new act becomes available. When you complete the Domain challenges, you will obtain Fractured Fruit Data and unlock the corresponding Twisted Realm stages. You may only complete each Domain once.

Challenge the Twisted Realm
During the event, points can be acquired by challenging the Twisted Realm. Complete corresponding Domain challenges to unlock the Twisted Realm.

Before the challenge begins, you can select the difficulty level and challenge conditions. Upon completion, you will receive points according to the selected difficulty and conditions. You will also receive Primogems the first time you complete each Twisted Realm stage.

During the event, you can challenge each stage as many times as you wish to get the highest score that you can. Your total combined score is the sum of your high score on each stage challenge. Attain a combined score of certain amounts and you will be able to claim Fractured Fruit Data and the event-exclusive namecard “Celebration: Fruit of Wisdom.”

*Once the event ends, unclaimed Twisted Realm rewards will no longer be available. Please make sure to claim your rewards in time.
Tip: It is strongly recommended that Travelers team up with friends for these challenges!

〓Event Rewards〓
Fractured Fruit Data can be used to exchange for Primogems, Crown of Insight, Character EXP Materials, Mora, and other rewards. You can also use 1,000 Fractured Fruit Data to invite “Kätzlein Cocktail” Diona (Cryo) to your party (can only exchange for once).

The PlayStation App Now Allows Remote Storage Management to Delete Games

It seems like the PlayStation App keeps getting better and better with each update as the latest adds a number of new features, including the ability to manage your PS5 storage remotely.

The new PlayStation App update, which is now live for iOS devices (Android coming soon). With this update we see a number of new features, including the ability to compare trophies with friends, join online matches on the PS5, and more!

  • Sort and filter in PS Store to help you find what you’re looking for

  • Compare trophies with friends

  • Manage your PS5 storage at any time from settings

  • Join multiplayer sessions on PS5 from game invites

  • Share images, text and URLs from other apps to friends on PS App

  • Turn party notifications on/off

  • This update also includes fixes and performance improvements

Outside of being able to compare trophies with friends and the PS store filters, we have to say the biggest addition in this update has to be the PlayStation App storage management feature that allows you to delete games remotely. We went ahead and tested out the feature ourselves and wrote a short guide up.

How Do I Delete Games on PS5 Using the PlayStation App?

Note: Your console must be in rest mode in order for this to work as the app will warn you that this feature only works while in rest mode.

It’s pretty easy to delete a game off either your PS5’s internal SSD or external USB drive using the app, all you have to do is be sure your console is linked to App. You can do this easily by logging into your PSN account, and then going to the following settings.

  • To link a Primary PS4 or PS5 console, open the PlayStation App, select Settings Link Console to App.

From here you will see a list of consoles that your account has logged into. Select your primary system and the app will load the console’s storage on the top of the page.

All you have to do from here is click the storage box and it will open up a new page showing all games you have downloaded either on your PS5 or on the external HDD. You can then select what you want to delete and upon boot up, that item will be deleted.

Before deletion:

After deletion.

That’s all there is to it! This is definitely going to be a very useful feature that we see ourselves using. What do you think? Do you plan on using the PlayStation App’s storage management feature?

Battlefield Mobile Will Have a Soft Launch This Year

While it was previously announced that Battlefield Mobile would be launching next year, it now appears that the company is targeting some sort of soft launch right around the end of Summer 2021.

Speaking during the GamesBeat Summit 2021 livestream, EA’s Chief Studios Officer Laura Miele confirmed that Battlefield Mobile is soft launching this year.

Battlefield this year, we are going to release a mobile game for Battlefield. We’re really excited about it, the teams been working on it for years, Industry Toys out of Pasadena has been creating it and working on it for years and we’re just super excited to bring to soft launch for the end of the Summer. I think it’s going to add to the Battlefield experience, I think it’s going to be really meaningful for Battlefield players and it’s going to reach a lot more players around the globe for this brand. And that’s how we’re thinking about all of our of big blockbuster brands and franchises. Free to enter business models, premium components of the game, mobile components of the game, and just getting it in as many hands on as many platforms as possible.

For those a bit confused by what a soft launch is, it’s basically a very limited market release and likely in the form of a beta before the full launch. Laura didn’t explain any further in terms of scope of the soft launch for Battlefield Mobile, but seeing that she mentioned by the end of Summer we are likely to hear more details very soon.

This, and Battlefield 2021 are set to be shown off this year. Chances are we will see both of them right around, or before E3 2021.

Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart 15 Minutes Gameplay

From Insomniac Games

In today’s episode we gave you our most in-depth look yet. The power of the PS5 shines with amazing visuals from Nefarious City and Rivet’s home base on the alternate dimension Sargasso. The game was built for the next-generation and shows it!

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart’s dimensional chaos wouldn’t be possible without the SSD either, thanks to near-instant loading. And today’s State of Play showed some of the various ways that dimensional aspect changes gameplay with the Rift Tether, dimensional shifts, and pocket dimensions.

We also illustrated some of the new gameplay traversal mechanics, like Phantom Dash and wall-running, and showed how Ratchet and Rivet can utilize these new abilities and the Rift Tether in both combat and traversal.

Weapons are at the heart of any Ratchet & Clank game and we showed how we are taking advantage of the PS5’s DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers and haptic feedback to create the most immersive Ratchet & Clank weapons yet. This included a longer look at previously revealed weapons and a taste of a brand-new weapon, the NegaTron Collider.

We touched on Accessibility Options, including a toggle-able Game Speed mode we’re very proud of. We’ll share more details on all the game’s accessibility options soon.

Lastly, we gave you a brief look at the many other features in Rift Apart: New open levels to explore, Clank puzzles, Glitch combat, arena challenges, aerial combat, and the first ever Ratchet & Clank Photo Mode will give you all sorts of ways to show off all the various armor pieces you can find during your adventure.

Wow, we are at a loss for words here with how incredible that looked. This is certainly one PlayStation 5 exclusive that is truly flexing the power of the console.

Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart will be released on June 11, exclusively for the PlayStation 5.

Halo Infinite Cross-Play & Cross-Progression Confirmed for Launch

Good news comes to Halo players looking to play the next chapter both in PC and Xbox, as Xbox Game Studios has stated that Halo Infinite will have cross-play and cross-progression at launch!

In a post by Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty, Microsoft has stated that the latest installment in the Halo series will support multiplatform — meaning you can take the experience via multiplayer and not miss your progress and date either no matter what platform you play in!

We know many of you play across more than just your PC, including on Xbox and mobile. That’s why we’re excited to announce Halo Infinite will support multiplayer cross-play and cross-progression when it releases later this year. That means if you’re playing on PC, you can play with your friends on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. It also means that your multiplayer customization and progress will follow you across all platforms.

We have been working closely with the PC community to ensure that Halo Infinite offers a premier PC experience, including highly desired features such as support for ultrawide and super ultrawide screens, triple keybinds, a wide variety of advanced graphics options and more. We want to make sure that Halo is serving the PC community.

Halo Infinite still doesn’t have an official release date, but an actor in the game says it will be released in November this year.
