Here’s a Rare Look at a PS3 Prototype Console in Action

While almost every gamer in the world knows what a PlayStation 3 (PS3) retail unit looks like, we now have a rare look at a PS3 prototype console that actually works! A gamer with the Twitter handle “pixben” posted a video of the console booting.

We can see it has the code “SCEA 1520022,” with SCEA the name PlayStation’s US division used for decades as Sony Computer Entertainment America, before it was then re-branded into what we know now as Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), which houses the PlayStation division, and other digital offerings from the electronics giant.

While the console itself seems to be different from the traditional PS3 design, the dashboard looks to be similar. There is however some debug options located under the settings tab of the unit. Still, this is a nice look into what a PS3 unti looked like before its design was finalized and sold at retail.

Scene developer, Jeff also promises a full breakdown of the prototype next week and also called this the “G chassis”.

Dying Light Hellraid Release Delayed to August

Originally set to launch this July 23 (next week), Techland has announced today that the Dying Light Hellraid release date has been delayed to next month, and it’s mostly due to the beta.

We received tons of great feedback during our beta of Dying Light – Hellraid. Big thanks to everyone who participated! We’re hell-bent on applying your suggestions, so we will be launching the new game mode on August 13 for PC, and August 14 for consoles.

As you can see above, Techland mentions that the new release date for Dying Light Hellraid release date is now August 13 on PC, and August 14 on consoles. Given the delay is less than a month, it’s not that much, and if this means a more polished product, then everyone wins.

About Hellraid:

Over five years after the release, Dying Light is getting an exciting DLC that’s bound to refresh your experience with the game. Get ready for an entirely new game mode based on our currently-on-hold first-person dark fantasy slasher Hellraid. That’s right – dark fantasy!

You might wonder how we tied the DLC’s significantly different setting to Dying Light’s post-apocalyptic reality. The answer to that question is a strange device found in the Tower’s basement after an odd power outage. It looks like an arcade machine but in fact it’s a portal between worlds. Use it and you’ll emerge in a grim fortress overrun by Hell’s minions.

To keep the hellish setting consistent, we’ve populated the stronghold with completely new demonic enemies and designed an array of fitting fantasy weapons to slay them with. Hellraid comes with its own progression system and you’ll have to improve your rank to unlock new swords, hammers, and axes. These are more than just pieces of equipment – they’re trophies. Each run through the dungeon will reward you with coins that you can spend to proudly wield Hellraid weapons in Harran. Every time you revisit the fortress, you’ll have a choice to increase the prize by picking up bounties. Whether you choose to test your skills alone or in co-op (up to 4 people), you’ll face a considerable challenge.

If you’re looking to see gameplay footage of it, head on over here.

GameStop Now Requiring All Customers to Wear Face Masks Starting July 27

Headed to your latest GameStop soon? If you are, better make sure you’re wearing a face mask. Today, the video game retail giant has announced that it is now requiring ALL customers to wear “face coverings” when shopping in all US stores.

This new health measure against COVID-19 will take effect on July 27, and according to the press release will provide GameStop time to “inform customers of the change, post signage in stores, and train associates with the new protocol.”

GameStop CEO George Sherman had this to say about the announcement:

We believe this is the right thing to do to ensure the health, safety and well-being of our associates and customers from the growing spread of COVID-19. Providing a safe environment in our stores for all customers and store associates continues to be our top priority and wearing a face covering is a simple step every one of us can take to ensure the safety of others in our stores.

As someone who doesn’t want to get sick or see anyone I know catch the coronovirus, this is good news. Then again, it’s common sense to wear a face mask wherever you’re going. It’s better to be safe than sorry, people!

Sony Says the PS4 Still Has a Ton of Life Left, Has a Lot More Coming

Despite next-gen consoles releasing this year, Sony has assured fans that there is still more life in the PS4 and that it will continue to be an important system.

Speaking during the PS5 Dualsense controller reveal stream, Sony’s worldwide head of marketing of PlayStation, Eric Lempel spoke briefly about the current life cycle for the PlayStation 4, stating that owners should expect more things.

PlayStation 4 is a big part of everything we do and it will continue to be a big part of everything we do. There’s a lot more to come on PlayStation 4, I think most recently we’re seeing some of the greatest titles this generation has released in recent weeks, but that will continue. And again, PlayStation 5 is the next generation product, but again we’ve got a lot to come for people on PlayStation 4. Still a ton of life in that product.

As far as current offerings for the remainder of the year, most are third-party multiplatform, though the company did just release Ghost of Tsushima today with the Last of Us Part 2 released last month. It will be interesting to see what kind of support Sony plans to offer as we get closer to next-gen, though with the current fanbase eon the system, it will be hard to ignore the potential of more big game releases. Guess we’ll see later this year!

Elite Dangerous Update 1.47 July 17 Patch Released for Future Bug Fixes

While commanders just got a big Elite Dangerous patch earlier this week, Frontier Developments has released the Elite Dangerous update 1.47 July 17 patch for consoles. As expected, there’s no new content in this, and was released for future fixes per the studio.

Elite Dangerous update 1.47 July 17 patch notes:

Here’s the message from the dev team:

Greetings Commanders,

Thanks for your feedback on the latest patch! We understand that some of the changes had unexpected effects and want to address them:

Overlapping Hotspots Commodity Distribution
With Patch 3 we implemented a change that was primarily intended to bring down the effects of multiple overlapping hotspots, especially on rarer commodities (such as Low Temperature Diamonds). We’re currently looking at data from the live game to determine the actual impact that it is having and will review this based on our projections. If the data does not meet our expectations we will be making changes accordingly.

Tritium
One of the most noted points of feedback we’ve seen so far is that the rarity of Tritium has been negatively impacted. We’d like to make it clear that any negative impact on locating and mining Tritium is unintentional and the intention is for Tritium to remain as accessible as it was prior to Patch 3.

Limited Purchasing on Fleet Carriers
Fleet Carrier purchase orders are now limited to a maximum order of 2bn Credits. This was omitted from the patch notes and we apologise for any confusion this has caused.

Console Players
A small update will take place tomorrow around midday for Xbox and Playstation users. This update won’t contain any noticeable changes, but lays the groundwork for future bug fixes.

Finally, we would like to thank you all for your great feedback, we have been listening and watching and we appreciate your patience and support.

o7 Commanders.

Yep, that’s it for this Elite Dangerous update 1.47 July 17 patch. Note that this rolled out for consoles only.

The new studio, dubbed Smilegate Barcelona is located in Barcelona, Spain and is currently looking to expand their current workforce, which is a little over 20 members as of today. Smilegate is most known for its publishing of the first-person shooter, Crossfire, and is currently working on the Xbox One release version, CrossfireX.

“As open-world games will continue to dominate the video game industry, we are well-positioned to build upon our team’s experience with talent from around the world, and are ready to create a AAA experience from our new studio in Barcelona,” said Yongil Kim, the CEO of Smilegate Barcelona, Smilegate. “Barcelona’s vibrant and lively youth culture set to the backdrop of gorgeous old world history is a powerful and inspiring combination. The press release states that Barcelona was chosen for the new studio due to how important the city has become to Europe in terms of technological advances, amongst other things. This announcement comes with a number of new job openings that are now live on their official website. No further details were given as to what this open world game may pertain be, though we do know in the very least that the studio will focus on making console games. Chances are we won’t hear about this project for some time, leaving us to assume that it will most likely release sometime during the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X life cycles. We’ll be sure to update you if any more details are provided.

Is the Battle Royale Genre Over-Saturated With the Addition of Hyper Scape?

Note: Opinions expressed here are solely of the author’s and does not represent the entirety of MP1st and its staff.

Let’s set the scene: On a cold, rainy March day in 2018, Twitch streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins dropped into Fortnite with a squad of music artist Drake, rapper Travis Scott, and Pittsburgh Steelers wide-receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster. OK, maybe it wasn’t a cold, rainy day, but that was the day Fortnite erupted on a global scale. Sure, Epic Games’s popular battle royale was already turning heads, but this event completely changed the multiplayer genre forever. After witnessing Epic’s rapid success with Fortnite, developers were anxious to create the next big thing. And yes, I understand there were other battle royale games before Fortnite (looking at you H1Z1), but this was different. Clearly, the multiplayer experience had evolved from the simple “team A versus team B” format to a vicious free-for-all bloodbath. A new sub-genre had emerged within the greater multiplayer arena, but have we already over-saturated it with too many options?

Following Fortnite’s initial rise in fandom, we began to see the battle royale genre take shape. Games such as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Apex, Realm Royale, Darwin Project, and Call of Duty: Warzone tried to take some of Fortnite’s spotlight. Apex and Warzone succeeded. Can’t really say the same for PUBG. Now, Ubisoft’s Hyper Scape has entered the ring and we’ve officially reached max capacity.

Ubisoft’s free-to-play battle royale tries to distinguish itself from the pack by combing fast-paced gun action with various, unique hacking abilities to enhance the gameplay. Hyper Scape offers a diverse range of weaponry, although the drop rate seems very inconsistent once in game. However, Ubisoft has (maybe) successfully found a way to counter poor drop rates with guns. By picking up duplicates of the guns and hacks already equipped, it will upgrade the item. So if you found a duplicate Riot One hand pistol, it would extend the magazine. It may not solve never finding an assault rifle, but at least you could have a maxed out grenade launcher. Also, Hyper Scape has a feature that integrates Twitch viewers to potentially alter the match by allowing infinite ammo or low gravity. That’s an interesting feature, especially if Hyper Scape moves into the esports arena.

Hyper Scape marches at the beat of its own overcharged drum. Unlike most battle royale games where the initial drop onto the map is the craziest and full of panic, Hyper Scape maintains that level of intensity throughout the match. Not only do you have the ability to double jump, it’s fairly easy to climb to the roofs of houses for a more aerial approach. There were times where I was getting peppered from at least three different areas, including above me. Games like Apex and Warzone require a certain level of tactical strategy, while Hyper Scape has a more “free-for-all” type feel to it, regardless if you’re playing in squads.

So with the addition of another battle royale game, has the genre begun to overstay its welcome? Fortnite’s golden days are long in the past, Warzone is beginning to struggle with new content, and I’m not sure if the PUBG servers are still online. What’s going to happen when the next Call of Duty title releases? Are we simply going to get a “Warzone 2?” Unless Activision decides to separate Warzone and make it standalone, it’s going to look like a straight money-grab with each new installment. Definitely not the type of publicity you want for an evolving genre. Surprisingly, Apex has maintained a steady player base and continues to deliver a consistent stream of content. It’s almost like having characters with unique backstories and abilities are better than generic slosh. Understand that Hyper Scape is a fun, innovative game. The pace of the game is jacked up to 11 and the mechanic to upgrade weapons and abilities by acquiring duplicates is a smart move. But, Hyper Scape does not move the needle.

hyper scape beta

Fortnite’s time atop the throne was unprecedented. Yes, its rapid ascension and sheer dominance in viewership brought about massive multiplayer changes, but at what cost? We were spoiled by how polarizing Fortnite was that we place unattainable goals to everything that comes after, even subconsciously. In doing so, our attention span is shorten and each new battle royale gets discarded at an alarming rate, causing developers to rapidly create replacements. The landscape of multiplayer games is in a fluid state right now, especially on the horizon of next-gen consoles and advanced technology. Odds are pretty good that we’ll see plenty battle royale game modes for the foreseeable future. I don’t expect every battle royale game to become the next Fortnite. But developers hope for that and that means we’re on the receiving end of being force-fed battle royale after battle royale. Too much of a good thing can be detrimental.

Hyper Scape might’ve been that “too much of a good thing.”

Minecraft Update 2.10 July 16 Chips Out, Here Are the Changes

4J Studios has released the Minecraft update 2.10 July 16 patch and there are a lot of changes in it. This is called the Fantastical Creatures update, and you can check out the changes and new stuff below.

Minecraft update 2.10 July 16 patch notes:

Mobs (main features)

1. Litch

A boss type monster that can control undead, it uses these minions to build itself a defensive tower with a cave for the undead to stay during the day. during nighttime, the undead will venture out to areas like forests, and mountains and begin building settlements were they will gather resources for perimeter walls and such to defend the Lich’s Tower, the undead are not however, capable of crafting or climbing ladders.

2. Myrmex

The Myrmex are not my idea, but HAVE been elaborated on by me and my brother. They are an Ant like race who live underground in villages. However, unlike Testificates who base their society on capitalism, and doing work to get money, the Myrmex do not trade, they build underground tunnels similar to ant hills. Once they finish, they will begin creating mines, and scavenging surface resources to refurbish their tunnels with wood, and cobblestones, they don’t farm, to make food. Instead, they scavenge much like ants, once the hill becomes large enough, 20 Myrmex will go to the surface, and split into groups of five, going in the direction of the four cardinal directions to find a new place to start a colony. Myrmex colonies can be found in plains biomes.

3. Great Worm

the Great Worm is a Gargantuan nether beast that feeds on soul sand, it mostly sleeps calmly, but the more soul sand you carry, the more it will smell you, in the center of the nether is a cave of obsidian where it resides, and if you carry more than 128 (2 stacks of 64) soul sand, it will awake, and make its way toward you very slowly. However, every one soul sand you collect will increase the GreatWorm’s speed by 0.00001. tread carefully as it is practically invincible, be prepared.

4. Atlas Wanderer

The Atlas Wanderer is a beast that roams around Kragg biomes with a 0.002% chance of spawning every 5000 ticks. They are rocky creatures of gigantic size (approximately 5 blocks tall, 3 blocks long, and 3 blocks wide.) The reason it has the name, Atlas Wanderer, is because much like the legend of atlas, who carried the sky on his shoulders, these creatures can carry homes, or even towns on their backs. And you can build on them. However, it does not attack monsters, and does get attacked by them.

5. Stuff I didn’t have time to write.

sorry, there was a lot of other stuff I wanted to write. instead, here’s some names, you might be able to guess what they do from their.

Chest Mimic

Bottomfeeder

Structures

1. Moss Home

Remember those old mossy boxes that you spawned inside of in the REALLY old versions of Minecraft? probably not, but their BACK! not as a spawn point, but as a randomly generated structure. with a few chests, a bed, and a furnace. not much else needs to be said really.

2. Brick Pyramid

The Brick Pyramid is a gigantic structure of solid brick, or so as it seems. In reality, at the top of the pyramid is a trapdoor, leading into the heart of the temple an antechamber room is at the end of the drop, with a pool of water in the middle. at the east side of the room is an indent in the size and shape of a doorway, on the opposite side of the room are three levers, guess the correct combination, and the door opens. through the doorway is a maze of randomly generated puzzles such as lever puzzles, jumping puzzles, and fighting puzzles, all of which add up to unlocking an iron door somewhere in the pyramid, behind the door is a treasure trove of precious ores, legendary weapons, and a boss waiting for you.

3. Catacombs

Destiny 2 Beyond Light Delayed to November

Announced last month that it’ll be out this September 22, Bungie has today announced that Destiny 2 Beyond Light has been delayed to November 10! The studio cites the challenges of working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic as one of the primary causes of the delay.

Here’s an excerpt of the announcement:

As the first chapter in a new trilogy of expansions, Beyond Light is the beginning of a new era of Destiny 2. We have a powerful story to tell and incredible new features that we’re really excited for players to experience. As always, our goal is to make the coolest, most entertaining expansion we can possibly make for our fans. To that end, we are doing what’s best for the game and moving the launch date.

The past few months have been a challenge and will continue to be during this pandemic. We’ve learned to create together in a new way, by having to work apart from one another. Despite these hurdles, we’re still committed to the same level of quality that our fans expect.

The studio has also mentioned that in the coming week, they will be unveiling more of Beyond Light, and what this means for the current season, Season of Arrivals.

It seems this means the new updated Destiny 2 roadmap we’ve posted this week will need yet another update.

Report: PS4 System Software Update 8.00 Beta Test Has Started

While we got a PS4 system update this past May, it seems Sony is prepping to release the PS4 system software update 8.00, as that firmware’s in the beta testing phase.

Over on Twitter, multiple people from Japan have revealed that they’ve been invited to the PS4 system software update 8.00 beta:

As you can see from the translated text, the beta seems to be focusing on party chat once again. Players who got a code will be able to invite 20 other people to join in as well. While this seems to be happening for Japan just now, that’s to be expected, and this should roll out soon for NA and other regions as well. Based on the tweets, it mentions how party chat will change considerably, players will no longer be able to hide parties, and that you can see text chat of people who do not use video chat from the party screen and more.

Update: We have verified the validity of the update.

Here is the full official patch notes and features found in the PS4 8.00 firmware update. This update weighs a little under 500mb.

PS4 8.00 firmware update changelog

    • The following changes have been made to Party and Messages
      • When starting a party, you can now choose to create a new group or select an existing group. When you create a new group, it’ll be saved even after the party has ended. You can start a new party with the same members by selecting the group that you previously created.
      • You can now use your group across party and messages. you can send messages to a group you created for a party, or start a party with a group you’ve messaged with.
      • Messages have been added to the screen during parties. When you select messages, you’ll see the messages exchanged between members of your group.
      • The public/private settings for parties have been removed. Only members of the group can join the party.
      • You can now change your party settings from the options menu that displays on the screen when you select party. You can also manage your party connection settings when you select [Party Voice Chat Cnnection], which has been added to the party settings.
      • Members of your party can now see when your mic is muted.
      • You can now join parties even if there are members that you’ve blocked. When you join a party with a blocked member, or when a blocked member joins the party, you’ll receive a notification. During the party, you won’t hear each other, and the game you’re playing, as well as your Share Play status, won’t be displayed. In addition, the blocked member won’t be notified that you’ve blocked them.
      • Play Together sessions can no longer be started during a party. For online multiplayer games, you can start a game session within the game.
    • The following changes have been made to parental controls.
      • Communicating with other players and viewing content created by other players have been combined and are now communication and user-generated content. If you’ve selected “Not Allowed” for either of the settings, the same setting will transfer after the update.

Other updated features:

  • Mute all microphones has been added to the quick menu under sound/devices. This setting mutes all microphones connected to your PS4.
  • The following changes have been made for communities
    • You can no longer create parties from the Community area. You’ll need to create a group in a party.
  • You can no longer create a new even in Events – Events created before the update will still be held, and events and tournaments hosted by game developers will continue to take place.
  • For some features, the content displayed on the screen has changed, as well as the screen design.

Related Reading:

Of course, this being a beta, don’t expect all features to be available. Based on participants’ reaction, there’s quite some work to be done as well. Once we know more info about this, we’ll be sure to let our readers know. We’ve contacted Sony about it and will update the post if we get a reply.

Square Enix Announces New Action Game Brand “Balan Company”

Here’s an interesting bit of news for today: Square Enix has announced a new brand the company calls “Balan Company.” Square Enix calls this an “action game’ brand and has issued a press release with not a lot of details about this announcement.

BALAN COMPANY is Square Enix’s new action game brand that brings together talented action game developers, visual and music creators from both inside and outside of the company. The “COMPANY” part of BALAN COMPANY refers to the coming together of all our creative staff, in the manner of a musical cast or theatre troupe. It symbolizes how the professionals from all the different disciplines involved in creating BALAN COMPANY games form a team like a company of players, with the game itself as their stage, to tell the greatest stories and provide the ultimate in action game entertainment to audiences around the world.

In addition to the press release, a new website called Balanwonderworld has been launched too. According to Square Enix, “more information on the first game under this new brand” is coming soon.

Unfortunately, that’s all we know so far. We’ll keep an eye out on what titles or projects will come out of this new brand.

2.6 PATCH NOTES

  • Added a new category of space encounter, the Derelict Freighter. These can be landed on and explored.
    • Derelict freighters are procedurally generated, with an infinite array of potential layouts.
    • Derelict freighters contain large volumes of valuable salvage, as well as special new rewards.
    • Each star system has one derelict freighter style, allowing Travellers to share the portal address of systems with particularly interesting wrecks.
  • Derelict freighters are home to several new hostile entities, including security turrets, aggressive drones, and a new variety of biological horror.
  • Derelict freighters contain procedurally generated stories, with data logs to be found and the crew’s fate to be unravelled.
  • New lore and story content can be found when retrieving the captain’s log.
  • Derelict freighters are occasionally detected by the starships’ subspace radar while using Pulse Drive. However, they can be specifically sought out by purchasing an Emergency Broadcast Receiver from the Space Station’s new Scrap Dealer.
  • Emergency Broadcast Receivers are expensive and may escalate in accordance with demand. Prices reset each day.
  • Each week, Iteration Helios offers a free Emergency Broadcast Receiver.
  • Derelict freighters offer many lucrative rewards:
    • Valuable items and a large number of nanites.
    • The opportunity to sell the data logs for nanites or standing.
    • The ability to use the derelict freighter’s engineering system to extract a piece of the freighter’s technology to fit into your own capital ship.

  • Teleporters can now be built aboard Freighter Bases. These variants do not require power. They can be used to teleport to other teleporters, or to the Space Station.

Hunt Showdown Update 1.10 July 16 Patch Brings Dual Wielding, Trials & More

Crytek has released a rather meaty patch for Hunt Showdown console owners today. The Hunt Showdown update 1.10 July 16 patch brings new features, content and more. Check out the full patch notes rolled out for the Hunt Showdown update today.

Hunt Showdown update 1.10 July 16 patch notes:

HIGHLIGHTS

Dual Wielding – Double the gun, double the fun. This Update brings the long-awaited Dual Wielding feature, available when using two identical handguns.

Trials Mode – You have asked, and we listened! We are happy to introduce the first iteration of our PVE mode – Trials! Explore the maps, complete difficult challenges, and collect Trial Stars for exclusive rewards.

New Legendaries – The update brings three shiny new Legendaries as well as two other exclusively unlockable with the Trials Mode!

Dual WieldingDual Wielding Handguns is a new and exciting feature in Hunt:Showdown, allowing players to equip and use two handguns at the same time.

All available handguns that can be used for dual-wielding:

  • Pair of Nagant M1895

  • Pair of Nagant M1895 Silencer

  • Pair of Caldwell Conversion Pistol

  • Pair of Caldwell Conversion Chain Pistol

  • Pair of Caldwell Conversion Uppercut

  • Pair of Caldwell Pax

  • Pair of Caldwell Pax Claw

  • Pair of Bornheim No.3

  • Pair of Bornheim No.3 Extended

  • Pair of Nagant M1895 Officer

  • Pair of Nagant M1895 Officer Brawler

  • Pair of Lemat Mark II

  • Pair of Dolch 96

Equipping

  • Every Handgun can be equipped for dual-wield as a “matched pair”.

    • A second handgun of the same type can now be added to the same weapon slot.

    • The slot will convert to medium size when the second pistol is equipped.

    • It is possible to mix normal and Legendary versions of the same type as matched pairs.

  • Dual Wielding is available from Rank 1 and does not require any unlocks via Traits.

  • Equipped weapon pairs can not be broken up while playing; you are committed to use them as pairs until extraction.

  • When looting a dead Hunter, you can pick up their dual-wield sets just like you would any other medium-sized weapons.

Shooting

  • Weapons have to be fired in sequence one after the other.

    • The rhythm is dictated by the shooter, allowing players to experiment.

    • Hunters can either go for a steady, constant fire-rate or try faster two-taps with longer breaks in-between shots.

  • Recoil is increased over single-handed handguns, making it harder to stay on target (esp. with more powerful handguns).

  • Effective rate of fire is increased, but still lower than the rapid burst from a single-action revolver using fanning.

Aiming

  • Aiming Down Sights (ADS) will only apply a slight zoom, with the guns moving a bit closer to the center of the screen.

    • Weapon Sights are not used at all, reducing range drastically over other weapons.

  • Dual-wielding accuracy only benefits minimally from crouching (just like with Fanning and Levering Traits).

Reloading

  • Weapons are reloaded at the same time in sequence, one bullet at a time.

  • Extra ammo pools are added up.

New Trait added: Ambidextrous

  • Available for 3 Upgrade points

  • Available at Bloodline Rank 44

  • “Quicker reloading of matched pairs, and custom clip reloads for semi-auto pistol sets.”

Developer Note: With this update, we are finally releasing a feature that we had on our roadmap for quite some time! Dual-Wielding aka Akimbo. It’s a major upgrade for all handguns, allowing them to be used in a completely new way. So far, players could choose to fire them conventionally – or by unlocking the Fanning trait – as rapid-fire single-action revolvers from the hip. A third option now becomes available by choosing to equip not one, but two into one slot. Where shooting a handgun normally is best for precision, and using fanning or rapid-firing a semi-automatic pistol gives a short burst of impressive firepower up-close, dual-wielding sits somewhere in the middle between them: Not as precise and not as fast, but with double the ammo capacity, perfect for suppressing fire or taking on hordes.

Now, why would players want to equip a matched dual pair of handguns? We think there are a number of different appealing scenarios here. Firstly, the option is available from Rank 1 on and doesn’t require any traits. You just have to combine it with another medium slot weapon, like a sawn-off shotgun or rifle. This makes a pair of dual-wield Nagant M1895 the strongest rapid-fire option for new players right out of the box. Secondly, it gives players impressive firepower to deal with mobs and to take part in prolonged fire-fights. Having double the extra ammo capacity means you can keep on firing for a longer time while keeping the enemy away from that window or that corner, allowing your team to take the initiative and move around more freely. While accuracy is much reduced, even only hitting the 3rd or 4th shot still hurt, and those lucky headshots are still a very real possibility. Lastly, when assaulting a strongpoint, such as a boss arena, dual-wielded handguns are much more flexible compared to Fanning as they reach out to more than double the average effective combat range, allowing you to fight along corridors or inside larger rooms where Fanning shots would prove less effective.

Dual-wielding brings a new component to Hunt’s gameplay. Some will love it for its coolness factor, others will find it ‘disgusting’ as it goes against the long bullet meta of the “perfect shot”. We hope that there is something in it for everybody, and that it opens up room for new battle tactics, easier combat against monsters as a backup (those Hellhound’s won’t be laughing when you bring 12 instead of 6 shots of your favorite revolver), as well as more intense shootouts with medium-sized inventory kits. There are a lot of options to explore and we are eager to hear your opinions on it!

Trials Mode (PvE)Trials is a new singleplayer game mode aimed at new Hunters and veterans alike, allowing to explore the world of Hunt:Showdown and complete different types of special assignments.

What can I do in Trials?

  • Explore the world freely without any enemies and get a feeling for Lawson Delta and Stillwater Bayou.

    • Move around at will or teleport directly to any compound.

    • Ever wanted to try out that risky jump? Now you can without the fear of losing your Hunter!

  • Complete Trial challenges along the way to learn about interesting weapons, enemies and locations.

    • There are a total of 15 trials players can discover and master.

    • Parkour Trials challenge your movement skills and take you along interesting paths.

    • Sniper Trials let you practice your aim in ranged combat.

    • Wave Trials require you to deal with groups of enemies with a variety of equipment.

    • All Trials can also be teleported to directly without the need of walking around the world.

  • Unlock exclusive rewards by collecting stars for completing Trials.

    • There are a total of 45 stars to be earned (3 per Trial).

    • Reaching a certain amount of stars unlock interesting rewards such as Hunt Dollars, Blood Bonds and advanced gear.

    • Dedicated Hunters can also try to unlock two Exclusive Legendary weapons.

  • Unlock Lengedary Nagant M1895 Officer Carbine “The Cordwainer” when reaching 45 Trial Stars

***Developer Note:***It can be hard for new players to learn the lay of the land and all the little secrets of the Bayou with the constant pressure of encountering other players. Trials aim to give them a chance to practice before venturing on into the Bayou and competing with other Hunters. Without this pressure, players can now spend more time preparing for real encounters, making it easier to move on to Bounty Hunt when they feel ready, equipped with map knowledge, basic combat skills and a good understanding of the horrors that await them.

In addition, veterans can hone their skills and show that they really mastered the game with a perfect score of earned Stars and access to the exclusive Legendary weapons to brag with. With Trials, we are finally adding a PvE component to the game that has been missing for a long time. It’s a new pillar of Hunt:Showdown that can attract new players, who are less focused on fighting others, but rather enjoy the game and its setting in different ways offline. We plan on expanding the Trials experience with future updates, adding more challenges and additional exclusive rewards for players to unlock. The first batch of Trials have been around Stillwater Bayou. The next batch will be focused on the second map, Lawson Delta.

Please tell us what you like, what you are missing, and in what direction you would like to see the new game-mode Trials grow!
