Rumor: Baldur’s Gate 3 Is in Development

Remember Baldur’s Gate? The fantasy RPG franchise that first saw release back in 1998 and developed by BioWare? While the franchise has been getting expansions, it seems the third major entry in the franchise is currently being worked on as we speak!

Over on Twitter, Brian Fargo, the founder of Interplay, which was the original publisher of the series, mentioned that he knows who’s working on “BG3.”

So who’s making Baldur’s Gate 3? It’s unknown for now, but a recent post on RPG Codex claims Larian Studios (Divinity: Original Sin 2), now owns the Baldur’s Gate IP! According to user “Bester,” his colleague is a former Larian employee, and he says Swen (Swen Vincke, founder and CEO of Larian Studios) has acquired the license though it’s unknown when they’ll use it and for what. However, this report has apparently been shot down by Larian Studios according to WCCFTech.

Could Brian Fargo’s own nXile Entertainment (Wasteland, Bard’s Tale 4) be the one working on the game and he’s just being cheeky? We can’t say for now. Chalk this one up as a rumor for now, though one we hope is true.

For RPG fans, this is great news. The last Baldur’s Gate game released was a mobile game, so let’s hope this one sees a proper release on consoles and PC.

Red Dead Redemption 2 PS4 Early Access Content Revealed, and They’re Not as Bad as You Might Think

Last week, we reported that Red Dead Redemption 2 will get exclusive timed early access content for PlayStation 4 gamers. Today, Sony unveiled the Red Dead Redemption 2 PS4 early access content, and they’re not as bad as some might expect!

Both Red Dead Redemption 2 and the multiplayer component, Red Dead Online, will be getting PS4 early access content in the form of weapons, horses and outfits. Here are the items PS4 gamers will get earlier than everyone else.

Grizzlies Outlaw Outfit – available day one in Red Dead Redemption 2 Story Mode and at the launch of Red Dead Online

A slick but rugged look, the Grizzlies Outlaw Outfit is perfect for exploring the forests of Ambarino.

Featuring a wool-lined, long coat with custom, hand-tooled leather accents, a leather vest with ornate pattern details, stand wing-tip collar with black neckerchief, and custom ornate buckle with matching boot tips, the Grizzlies Outlaw Outfit pays homage to the “boss” of the Northern States, its real-world inspiration.

Red Chestnut Arabian Horse – available at the launch of Red Dead Online

Known for its speed and handling, the Red Chestnut Arabian Horse is in a class above most horses you would find in the wild, with performance a step up from the first tier of available horses.

Alligator Skin Ranch Cutter Saddle – available at the launch of Red Dead Online

In addition to its stylish look, the Alligator Skin Ranch Cutter Saddle provides a number of benefits when equipped including core Health and Stamina boosts, which increase speed and acceleration for the horse. This saddle is an enhanced version of the basic saddle that comes stock for players when starting Red Dead Online.

High Roller Double-Action Revolver – available at the launch of Red Dead Online

Looks could kill: The High Roller Double-Action Revolver features a polished steel body with unique period-inspired, beautifully detailed engraving work. The deadly, quick draw revolver comes complete with unique playing card and skull elements carved into the grip. Its superior, quick rate of fire over all other revolvers makes it a great choice for mounted combat.

Not bad, right? Of course, we don’t know if any potential DLC is part of this marketing deal, but for now, we’ll take this.

Don’t forget to check out the latest gameplay trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 where we see the newly revamped deadeye gameplay mechanic in action.

Red Dead Redemption 2 shoots out this October 26 on the PS4, Xbox One.

Halloween is just around the corner, and with that comes a new themed DLC for the zed-killing FPS, Killing Floor 2 Halloween Horrors Monster Masquerade. Following the release of Killing Floor 2 Infinite Onslaught back in March, developer Tripwire Interactive says that this is their largest update of the year. For the update, all enemies will receive new models, visual effects, and sound effects. The new wereslashers, fishpounds, and blob bloats will fill the castle in an effort to ruin your party.

But players will also be armed with a new arsenal to fight back.

New weapons include:

Beenox Is Attending International Events Just for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 PC Version

It’s no secret nowadays that most of the money made in games are on consoles. While the PC version almost always is technically superior, the console version  of games are usually the ones given the most attention to, and this has been the same even with the Call of Duty franchise.

It looks like Treyarch/Beenox is trying to bring back the Call of Duty PC audience back, as it’s heavily promoting the Black Ops 4 PC version worldwide! In a post on Reddit, Beenox announced that they’ve attended Dreamhack in Sweden to showcase Black Ops 4 on PC. In addition to that, a senior member of the team even went to Korea to talk how Black Ops 4 will work in internet bang cafes or Internet Gaming Rooms (IGRs).

Where in the World is The BlackOps 4 PC Team? from r/Blackops4

Given how the PC version of the last few Call of Duty titles weren’t given that much attention, this is definitely a step in the right direction. In case you didn’t know, the PC version of Black Ops 4 is being developed by Beenox who developed 2016’s excellent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered.

In other Black Ops 4 PC news, Treyarch/Beenox are looking at adding mod tools to the game, though it won’t be available at launch.

Report: Revised Nintendo Switch on Its Way For 2019

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Japanese game developer and publisher Nintendo is looking to revamp it’s Nintendo Switch in the latter half of 2019. What this revamp could include new hardware specs and features, but those details have not been finalized.

The one notable feature WSJ does mention is that the Switch for 2019 could include a new liquid-crystal display.

One option is improving the display, they said. The current Switch uses a lower-end liquid-crystal display without some technologies that are standard in more recent smartphone LCDs. Updating the display with these technologies would make it brighter, thinner and more energy-efficient.

This hardware refresh falls in line with Shigeru Miyamoto’s comments in February where he wished for the Switch’s lifecycle to be longer than usual. If this updated Switch does launch in 2019, it could indicate that Nintendo is looking to upgrade the handheld console every few years to keep sales up and hardware-relevant for its entire lifecycle, however long they plan it to be.

Bethesda: Fallout 76 Built to Be Supported on a “Month-to-Month” and “Week-to-Week” Basis

While Fallout 76 might be Bethesda’s full-fledged GaaS (games as a service) online-centric title (The Elder Scrolls Online’s primary developer was Zenimax Online Studios), the studio has a lot of ambitious plans in place. One of these said plans is Fallout 76 support that’s being planned per week, and per month.

In an interview, Bethesda Game Studios boss Todd Howard talks a bit about Fallout 76’s post-launch plans, and states that the action RPG is being built so it can support month-to-month and week-to-week content.

One of the things that we really like about Fallout 76 is that we’ve built it so that we can support it on a month-to-month and week-to-week basis. So our plan is, this is the game, and we know based on our previous games that people are gonna play literally for years. So it’s something we’re gonna keep updating.

And the way the whole system is built, connected, we can add things the players like more of, change parts of the game. And that part is really, really exciting for us: that we have the game that we’re launching, but then we also have the game that it’s gonna be a year from now and two years from now. And we’re gonna do that with the community, so that makes it extra great.

You can watch Howard himself say it in the video below.

Given that Bethesda has most likely observed similar GaaS-type games like Destiny and The Division, they should know what pitfalls to avoid, no?

In other Fallout 76 news, don’t expect cross-platform play and here’s why.Don’t forget, a Fallou 76 beta is coming out and you can read the details right here.

Report: Game Devs Prepping for PSN ID Name Change

If you created your PlayStation Network ID way back then, and used some sort of funny, inane username like xXx_360NoSCopeZ_xXx and wanted to change it, it looks like it’s finally coming true! Yes, Sony will finally implement PSN ID name change options soon-ish!

In a report by Kotaku, it states that three game developers from three different studios have mentioned that in the recent months, they’ve been fixing bugs, and making sure that their games will be compatible with this PSN ID name change that Sony will roll out.

In addition to that, a fourth person, has even shared a photo from an internal Sony documentation of a PSN profile containing the option to “edit username.” The document was said to be a guide on how to change a PSN ID via the PlayStation Network.

Unfortunately, there’s no timetable as to when this feature will be rolled out, so you’ll have to sit tight and suck that username in, DreadLordXxxX.

In other PlayStation news, the free games for PS Plus members for November have apparently been leaked — and by Sony, no less. Speaking of PS Plus games, you can download this month’s free offerings right here.

Report: PS Plus Free Games November 2018 to Be Bulletstorm and Yakuza Kiwami

While we had a lot of purported leaks when it came to the free PlayStation Plus games of October none of them panned out. Another leak has happened this time, and this has the PS Plus free games November 2018 list, and it looks legit!

Why? Well, simply because it’s the official PlayStation website that leaked it! Nope, I’m not joking! Check out this link (which should be pulled shortly), to see Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition, and Yakuza Kiwami as the free PS4 games of the month!

Of course, this could be another error, though it seems it’s highly unlikely.

For this month’s free PS Plus games, head on over here for direct links to both US and EU PSN Stores. We also posted this week’s PSN Store sale, and it’s all about EA games.

Battlefield V Attrition System Explained by DICE as Being Anti-Camper, Tips Listed

One of the biggest — if not the biggest — change in Battlefield V compared to past entries in the series is the Attrition system implemented by DICE that affects ammo and health. It’s such a big departure that the studio needed to address it once the beta was over given how many people felt it was a little too limiting, which includes us in our Battlefield V beta impressions piece.

Fortunately for those that found it a little too restrictive, DICE has listened to player feedback and is dialing the Attrition system in Battlefield V a bit! Not only that, but DICE explains why Attrition is good for the game, and even gave us tips on how to better maximize it.

How Does Attrition Change Battlefield?
We’ve designed this system of Attrition to give squad play and team work even more meaning – but that’s not all. Scarcity of bullets and medical supplies also makes the game more dynamic, encourages you to think on your feet, assess risks, and make choices in whatever situation you’re in.

After each encounter in previous Battlefield™ games, you were always quickly back at status quo with restored health and ammo. Now, situations will be special after each encounter. You may not have full health or ammo, so you need to act accordingly. Simply rushing for the next flag may not be enough – you need to change your tactic. Say you’re down to your last mag, should you play it safe or engage those two enemies you have a clear shot on?

DICE has also mentioned that while Medics didn’t know who needed health pouches in the  beta, that will change in the final game. Players will see icons and via the CommoRose communication wheel.

We’re improving in-game communication tools to make sure it’s clear when people are low on ammo and health, and when they don’t have a Health Pouch. This will be achieved through icons and the CommoRose, your in-game way of making your soldier shout info to other players. In the Open Beta, Medics couldn’t see if a player needed a Health Pouch, but we’ve already started addressing this.

Attrition also promotes less camping given snipers can’t just set up tent on a hill forever with their huge stacks of ammo and not move. This goes the same with tanks with unlimited ammo in previous Battlefield games. If you hated tanks that holed up somewhere and just kept “shelling” everyone with unlimited ammo, that’s a thing of the past in Battlefield V!

In case you didn’t know, downed enemies drop ammo pouches, which according to DICE, will promote movement for players. This is also useful for lone wolfers who don’t want to rely on Support teammates for ammo crates/pouches.

While we already mentioned it in a previous post, DICE has reiterated that they’ve dialed down the Attrition system for the final game. In the retail version, the amount of ammo you’ll spawn in with will be bigger than what you’ve seen in the beta. Not only that, but your max ammo pool will also bigger as well, and you’ll even start with a Medical Pouch so you don’t need to go directly to Resupply Stations once you spawn in.

DICE claims that some players might not even notice the Attrition system given they’ll die in the game before they run out of ammo. Advanced players wil though, since they’ll need to apply “some additional tactical thinking with the slightly raised skill ceiling.”

Finally, here’s a set of beginner and advanced tips regarding the Battlefield V Attrition system.

Beginner Tips to Adapt to the Attrition System
To finish, let’s go through some gameplay tips, straight from the DICE developers, on how to adapt to this system. We’ll start with some tips for newcomers:

  • Remember to loot defeated players when it’s safe to do so. Get the looting in to your routine, and the extra ammo and health can keep you going for quite a while. Be aware of the risk and your surroundings.
  • If there are no Resupply Stations at the flag you’re at, bring out your build tool and build it! This is something all Classes can do.
  • When it comes to ammo, keep your weapon type in mind. If you see a target quite far away, and you’re, for instance, carrying a SMG, you can probably get the kill, but at the cost of a lot of bullets. Use weapons for the ranges they are meant for.
  • If you’re playing as a Medic or Support, people will need you. In previous games, you got points for just handing out ammo, even to well-stocked players, which made resupplying somewhat selfish at times. There’s a satisfaction to being needed, and you’ll feel this much more often in Battlefield V.
  • When you’re starting out with Battlefield V, stay close to your squad – they will keep you safe and resupplied. Eventually, you’ll learn where to get ammo and health on your own, but a well-balanced team will always keep you on track.

Pro Tips to Adapt to the Attrition System

  • Even if you’re a veteran Battlefield player, there are tips to help keep you dominating in Battlefield V. If you just want to wander off to improve your K/D Ratio, that’s still possible, but make PTFO your mantra and lean in to the fresh tactical approaches.
  • If you’re playing on larger maps with greater distance between flags, don’t forget to call in the Supply Cannister Drop, if you have the points for this Reinforcement. These replenish both health and ammo and will benefit both you and your team.
  • Playing a vehicle? Remember that Resupply Stations also will heal your vehicle. If you’re in an airplane, make use of the Attrition mechanics by destroying enemy Resupply Stations, then fly through skyhooks to give your kite some love in the form of ammo and repairs.

Hopefully, the studio has found the perfect balance when it comes to being too restrictive, and giving too much. We’ll know for sure once Battlefield V hits retail this November 20 on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
