If you’re looking for something new to try this weekend, and haven’t given Ghost Recon Wildlands a go yet, here’s your chance! Ubisoft is once again rolling out a Ghost Recon Wildlands free weekend on all platforms!

The Ghost Recon Wildlands free weekend will last from September 20-23, and during this time, everyone will have full access to the base game, along with the Ghost War PvP mode, and the themed special PvE missions. If you like what you tried, which is what Ubisoft is banking on, you can then purchase to one of two editions — the Year 2 Gold Edition and the Ultimate Edition, priced at $79.99 and $119.99, respectively.

Aside from the main game, the Ultimate Edition includes:

  • The Year 1 season pass, which includes the two major expansions: Narco Road and Fallen Ghosts.

  • Additional exclusive perks including special weapons and attachments, 4 Battle Crates, 1 Skill Point Pack, 1 Resource Pack and 1 Long XP Booster.

The Year 2 Gold Edition includes the main game, and the Year 2 Pass. To help the decision a wee bit easier, Ubisoft has also discounted the Year 2 Gold Edition, Ultimate Edition, and other various editions of Wildlands up to 60 percent off!

Don’t forget, Ubisoft has done a few crossover events for Wildlands, so future soldiers will hopefully have more events to look forward to at some point.

PlayStation Vita to End Production in Japan in 2019

Sony’s little gaming handheld that could, the PlayStation Vita, is nearing the actual end of its life cycle, with the company ceasing manufacturing of the portable in Japan this coming 2019.

Additionally, there are no plans for a successor, so don’t hope for a PS Vita 2 or something along those lines. This was confirmed by Sony Interactive Entertainment Senior Vice President Hiroyuki Oda in a chat with Japanese gaming mag Famitsu.

Currently, we do not have any plans regarding a new handheld device. In Japan, we will manufacture PlayStation Vita until 2019. From there, shipping will end.

This shouldn’t really be a surprise, as mobile gaming has taken off given the tech in smartphones has progressed at a rapid pace, which has left dedicated gaming portables a thing of the past. There’s still the Nintendo Switch, though, right?

If you’re a PS Vita owner, pour one out for the little guy before saying goodbye, alright?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 New Content Will Only Be 7 Days Early on PS4, Not 30 Days

With the start of this generation of consoles, Sony surprisingly snatched up a timed exclusivity deal with Activision with all things Call of Duty, which was with Microsoft and the Xbox 360 last gen. This deal meant that all post-launch content of any Call of Duty game was released first on the PlayStation platforms, with the Xbox and PC platforms getting it 30 days after.

As part of Treyarch’s message of supporting Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 with free content post-launch, the studio also revealed that players will get to play new content first on PS4 by seven days — which is a far cry from the usual 30-day exclusivity that previous Call of Duty games this gen had.

And for fans who want even more content, there’s also the Black Ops Pass, which is available for standalone purchase at launch and afterward. Speaking of content, PlayStation 4 players will get to play new content first on PS4 by seven days.

This means all the playable content coming to the Black Ops universe following launch will land seven days early on PS4, including new specialists and maps, as well as seasonal events. After seven days, all new playable content will come to other platforms.

The Activision blog post also mentions PS4 bundles will be available come release day on October 12, which we’ll report about once more info is released.

In other Black Ops 4 news, make sure to check out the latest Zombies trailer featuring a new song by band Avenged Sevenfold. You should also check out this deep dive video regarding Blackout’s netcode, and why it’s worse than PUBG and Fortnite.

Battlefied V Will Have an Option to Disable Chat Filter

Possibly one of the unexpected news items to come out of the Battlefield V beta is how the game censored ordinary words like “DLC” and “white man,” which caused a lot of confusion among gamers. While DICE already explained why this is happening, it seems some people aren’t satisfied with the answer.

Over on Twitter, DICE Multiplayer Producer David Sirland answered fan inquiries about the chat filter and confirmed that there will be an option to turn it off.

Another fan raised the notion that chat filter doesn’t need to exist in the first place, which Sirland shot down given that the average player doesn’t want abusive text to get to them.

Is this the end of the Battlefield V chat filter saga? Maybe. Sirland does seem to understand the need for it, and with an option to disable it coming, it shouldn’t be an issue anymore, right?

In other Battlefield V news, don’t expect a second beta to happen anytime soon. Check out the list of changes DICE has planned for the game based on beta feedback.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Can Be Played Entirely in First-Person

In case anyone wanted to play Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2 in first-person, you can! While the game’s default point-of-view is in third-person, players will be able to toggle between three perspectives when it comes to actually playing the game: third-person, first-person, and a cinematic mode.

According to Rockstar, gamers can play the entire game in first-person mode if they so wish, though don’t expect the cinematic cutscenes won’t change vantage points, but players can switch between first-person and third-person whenever they wish with a flick of a button. On the PlayStation 4, it’s as simple as pressing the DualShock 4’s touchpad in order to cycle between the three perspectives at any given time.

Of course, this shouldn’t be that surprising given Rockstar did the same for Grand Theft Auto V when it ported the game to the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It’s still nice to know that this feature seems to be ready at launch.

In other Red Dead Redemption 2 news, Rockstar Games has announced the game’s multiplayer mode called “Red Dead Online,” with an open beta coming this November.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Returns to NPD Monthly Best-Sellers List Due to Xbox One Backwards Compatibility

Just a few weeks ago, we reported that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 received the Xbox One backwards compatibility treatment. It seems it’s going over way better than anyone could have expected as the Xbox 360 version of the game managed to sell a lot!

Over on Twitter, Mat Piscatella, video game industry analyst for the NPD Group, states that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 managed to break in the monthly best-sellers list in August at the #8 spot! For reference, it was #321 on the list back in July before it was added to the Xbox One backwards compatibility list.

US NPD SW – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 returns to the monthly best-sellers list in August at #8, driven by sales of the Xbox 360 version. COD:MW2 was added to the Xbox One Backward Compatible Game Library on August 28th. COD:MW2 ranked as July’s 321st best-selling title.

Not bad for a game released way back in 2009, no? Of course, given how influential and just downright fun Modern Warfare 2 was (or is), it’s hard to blame people that want to jump back into that noob tube infested pool. Now, if only Activision released a proper remaster, that would make everyone’s year, no?

Are you surprised by this? Do you know anyone who still plays Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer routinely?

Halo: Infinite Microtransactions Won’t Include Real Money Loot Boxes

Just a few days ago, we reported that Halo: Infinite will have microtransactions based on a recent job ad by 343 Industries. While we still don’t know just what exactly 343 Industries has planned, we can rule out loot boxes from the equation.

Over on Twitter, Studio Head of 343 Industries Chris Lee told a fan to “keep the faith,” and assured that Halo: Infinite won’t have real money loot boxes.

Keep the faith, it’s appreciated! We’re still working through final plans and will share more when we are ready, but I can definitely say that Halo Infinite will not include real-money loot boxes.

This is definitely welcome news, right? Let’s hope whatever in-game purchases 343 Industries has planned won’t affect gameplay at all, or at the very least, won’t include locked guns, weapons, and the like.

Halo: Infinite, which Microsoft has confirmed to be Halo 6, still doesn’t have a definite release date. Once we know more info, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

Rumor: PS Plus October 2018 Free Games Leaked

If you’re a PlayStation gamer, each month’s PlayStation Plus free games offering is almost always a big deal. While we already have Destiny 2 and God of War III Remastered to fill our gaming void this month, it seems October will bring another set of heavy hitters to the PS4’s free games library!

Over on Reddit, user Aecesaje captured brief footage from the Portuguese PlayStation Store that has Nioh and Diablo III as the PS Plus October 2018 free games!

[Proving that the leak/bug isn’t fake][Video] I have other video showing that it isn’t photoshop. Now I can see the page of the games but there’s no sale from r/PS4

Of course, it could be a bug, or maybe the game is getting discounted this coming week or something. We’ll know for sure come the end of the month, but if this is real, well, prepare for an epic time.

Make sure to check out this week’s PSN Store sale where Warner Bros. games and a “Pub Party” sale are on-going as we speak.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Free Content Promised by Treyarch Post-Launch, Maps, Specialists & More

If you were checking MP1st regularly during the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout beta (if you weren’t, you should have!), you might have noticed how active developer Treyarch was during the entire time the beta was running; from game updates and fixes, to events and more.

It seems this new level of communication will continue post-launch of the game! In a new community update, Treyarch has promised this new level of communication in all of Black Ops 4’s modes (multiplayer, Blackout, Zombies). Not only that, but the studio has even promised a “variety of free content” for the entire Black Ops 4 community across all three modes. Details of the free content will come as they’re announced, but Treyarch has shared some of the free content that fams should expect post-launch.

  • Nuketown: An all-new take on this fan-favorite map will be landing in November for all players to enjoy.
  • Specialists: We have a number of new Specialists already in development, with our first brand new character coming in December.
  • Blackout: There are so many places that we want to go with this game mode. The map and gameplay rules that you’ll experience at launch are just the beginning. We will continue to support the community with map updates, expansions and new Blackout modes for everyone.
  • Events: In addition to the content above, we have many seasonal and time-limited events that will deliver new game modes and content to all players.

This is definitely a step in the right direction. While the Black Ops 4 pass doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon, players can be rest assured that they have a ton of free stuff to look forward to even without shelling an extra buck.

Report: Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout Beta Was Running 10Hz Netcode, Worse Than PUBG & Fortnite

While the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout beta ran smoothly so far, it seems not everything is as rosy as it seems. YouTuber Battle(non)sense, who does a deep dive video on multiplayer games’ netcode and other technical aspects, found out that the Blackout netcode is 10Hz, which is worse than Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds!

Check out the six-minute video below to see what’s happening with Blackout’s netcode.

Not familiar with tick rates and netcode and how it affects multiplayer games? Here’s a detailed explanation via Reddit:

Tick rate is the frequency with which the server updates the game state. This is measured in Hertz. When a server has a tick rate of 64, it means that it is capable of sending packets to clients at most 64 times per second. These packets contain updates to the game state, including things like player and object locations. The length of a tick is just its duration in milliseconds. For example, 64 tick would be 15.6ms, 20 tick would be 50ms, 10 tick 100ms, etc.

Generally, a higher tick-rate server will yield a smoother, more accurate interaction between players, but it is important to consider other factors here. If we compare a tick rate of 64 (CSGO matchmaking), with a tick rate of 20 (alleged tick rate of Overwatch Beta servers), the largest delay due to the difference in tick rate that you could possibly perceive is 35ms. The average would be 17.5ms. For most people this isn’t perceivable, but experienced gamers who have played on servers of different tick rates, can usually tell the difference between a 10 or 20 tick server and a 64 tick one.

Keep in mind that a higher tickrate server will not change how lag compensation behaves, so you will still experience times where you ran around the corner and died. 64 Tick servers will not fix that.

Bear in mind this shouldn’t detract from whatever fun you had in Blackout, though hopefully, this is something Treyarch looks into come Black Ops 4’s launch.

In other Black Ops 4 Blackout news, Treyarch has released a few interesting facts and a post-beta survey for Blackout. The studio has also listed the changes it’s making to Blackout based on beta feedback.
