DICE has certainly stepped up their game when it comes to plying Battlefield V info to their player base, and it seems the studio won’t be stopping anytime soon.

For this week, the studio will detail the Battlefield V classes and combat roles! And in October, prepare for a deluge of Battlefield V info as the studio kicks everything into overdrive as we approach the November 20 release date.

SEPTEMBER

Open Beta Aftermath: Last week we talked about what we learned from the millions of you who took part in the Open Beta, and how we’re making updates before launch, along with the release of the second episode of our Battlefield V Dev Talks with UX Designer Nathalie Ek, Franchise Design Director Daniel Berlin, and Multiplayer Producer David Sirland covering it in full.

Classes and Combat Roles: This week, we’ll focus on the Classes and Combat Roles of Battlefield V and how these will give players unmatched choice, control, and the ability to turn the battlefield to their advantage like never before.

OCTOBER

Maps of Battlefield V: We teased all eight multiplayer maps available at launch during our recent This is Battlefield V trailer, but now it’s time to show you more about these maps, their World War 2 historical inspirations, and the gameplay experiences you’ll get across them.

Weapons and Vehicles: You’ll experience an immense arsenal of weapons and vehicles at the launch of Battlefield V, and we can’t wait to start revealing them to you, as well giving you many more details about how you’ll upgrade, customize, and progress them from launch as part of your Company.

We’ll bring to life our first Chapter, Fall of Europe, detailing themed, timed events within it and a tease of what’s to come in the future as the game evolves and continuously grows.

Firestorm: Are you ready for battle royale, reimagined for Battlefield V? Prepare to discover more about the all-out war of survival, where players fight to become the last squad standing. It’s a new and different way to fight, with the massive scale of weapons, vehicles, team play, and destruction Battlefield is renowned for.

NOVEMBER

Grand Operations: As we reach the final stretch before launch, we will tell you more about the ultimate multiplayer experience for Battlefield V – Grand Operations. We’ll tell you about Grand Operations at launch and then how it will evolve during Tides of War, as you’ll fight across other unseen and unplayed battlefields of WW2.

In addition to that, DICE is continuing their free expansions giveaway for Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 4! As long as you own the base game, the Battlefield Premium passes of both games will be free!

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Info From Q&A Recap in Full

Remember when we posted last week that Treyarch Design Director David Vonderhaar was doing a Q&A with Game Informer, and was fielding questions from fans? While we already ran a few stories from the podcast/video chat, here’s the entire recapped Black Ops 4 info in full!

Thanks to our friends at CharlieIntel, a quick summary of the info can be seen below.

  • Vahn thoughts on the Blackout Beta: “Blown away by the reception. I felt confident, I felt good. The reception was better than I expected.”
  • Vahn’s reaction to Dr. Disrespect: “He’s an interesting dude, for sure. He has a lot of fans in the building here.”
  • They have not yet decided the final player count for Blackout at launch. 100 players held up pretty well, but they are doing work to optimize. Player count can change post launch until they feel safe with it. Vahn wants it at 115 “for the fun of the lore” during special events.
  • Blackout will be more optimized for the regular PS4.
  • Blackout Post Launch: “There has always been a pretty aggressive plan.” They are still working on the plans for it. Events, planning, and all still ongoing. Beta’s response re-enforces that they are on right track.
  • Yes, more character skins will be added to the game.
  • There are more weapons in the game at launch than beta. Any new weapons that they make for MP will “end up in Blackout for sure”
  • Studio’s Reaction on Armor: “Hotly debated” about what to with Armor. There are looking at additional damage mitigations…”hold the armor all the way through..you don’t have to break the armor all the way to eliminate somebody.” They want to figure out the end game scenario to see how Armor effects that. They are NOT prepared to get rid of Level 3 Armor from Blackout. “It’s the wrong call.”
  • There’s a lot of work on audio going on. In final game, the player can actually speak…players have to initiate it. It’s a feature in MP and Blackout. There has been a lot of work on footsteps, audio priority, and more. Lots of audio bugs fixed.
  • Treyarch debated auto-picking up of ammo. But auto made it that ammo was not taking it seriously. People would not take ammo seriously if auto-pick up was enabled. So they want ammo to matter.
  • There are no changes to muzzle flashes in Blackout planned. What was in beta is almost final.
  • Vahn says he has a whole agenda of how he wants custom games and custom game settings to work in Blackout, but no new info yet.
  • Friendly Fire will be enabled still.
  • Vahn has a “host of team configurations” he wants to try out.
  • No split-screen yet in Blackout as of now. They are testing it, and they are not sure yet if it will work.
  • There is no inventory management being worked on right now, but they have great ideas on how to improve. They are focusing on ship right now.
  • They do not how to let inventory be up while you run on consoles. It’s “technically” possible, but they are sorting it all out and trying to learn how to improve it.
  • They have plans to expand Kill Cams to add more details to it, but no set date for that yet. They are trying to get basic of kill cams to operate correctly first.
  • There are a lot of spectating features coming to Blackout. One feature that’s coming at launch that was not in beta. Vahn says players who are spectating could have more information than the players to make ‘spectating fun.’
  • There will be no ‘ranked’ Blackout matches.
  • There could be ‘crazy tournament’ stuff for Blackout, but they don’t want Ranked matches in Blackout like MP.
  • They want to see if grapple to a vehicle could happen, but nothing finalized yet.
  • Vahn says he will ask about being able to ‘hover’ in a helicopter above and shot when playing in solos.
  • Vahn: “I cannot announce the plans for the future of the map. I can tell you that there are plans for the future of the map. I went through them in detail 2 days ago and they’re sick, and I can’t wait.” GameInformer says Vahn mentioned during their visit “there’s a lot of open ocean out there” and Vahn quickly shushes him….
  • Vahn has seen over 175 concepts for events/event internally based things for Blackout to keep the mode new and unique. “There is no shortage of ideas here.”
  • Blackout Circle closing on Zombies location is “an idea for one of the special events”
  • Collapse of Circle has many features to come: they want to adjust the tick rate and more ideas they are working on. Circle speed should adaptive to player counts too.
  • Blackout leveling up system is different. There are 80 levels total in Blackout. You have to get kills and get top 5 and top 10 in order to level up. You cannot prestige. End of 80, there is a “grand daddy of the prizes” and prizes “along the way.”
  • There are changes coming to Merit system at launch. They needed more data from the beta in order to tune it.
  • Vahn says he ‘hopes’ to implement custom games to Blackout. He cannot confirm or deny it, but there is a vision for implementing it into the game.
  • There is colorblind settings in MP, but they are working on to implement into Blackout.
  • Text Chat should be disable-able in Blackout.
  • No details on microtransaction yet for the mode.
  • There are “many things” related to Easter Eggs that have not been found in Blackout
  • Vahn says he won’t be a playable character in Blackout
  • Vahn says “maaybbbeeee” to bonus game modes
  • No mod tool announcement
  • “There are fans of the TranZit Bus in the buildings”

In case you want to watch the entire thing, here’s the YouTube version of it which clocks at 42 minutes long.

In other Black Ops 4 news, the same Q&A revealed that Black Ops 4 will launch with only 11 maps, with four of them being remakes.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will launch this October 12 on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Rumor: PS Plus Free Games October 2018 List Includes Sniper Elite 3

While we reported on a rumor floating around that the PS Plus free games October 2018 list will include Diablo III, and Nioh, it seems there’s another game making the rounds as next month’s free game.

Spotted by Reddit user Truemat, the Russian PlayStation Store has Sniper Elite 3 as one of the free games! It says “Bjesplatno,” which means free in Russian. Check out the screenshot below.

ps plus free games october 2018

Developed by Rebellion, Sniper Elite 3 was released back in 2014, and is the third chapter in the Sniper Elite franchise. It featured a gruesome x-ray kill cam mechanic that showcased every lethal bullet hit in slow motion, and even which organ it struck. As for multiplayer, Sniper Elite 3 had five modes: Team Deathmatch (TDM, Deathmatch, Distance King, No Cross, and Capture the Flag.

We’ll know later this week whether this image is legit or not once Sony announces next month’s PS Plus free games lineup, so until then, treat this one as a rumor for now.

Are you OK if Sniper Elite 3 is part of the free games list for October? Or do you want something more recent?

Overwatch Upcoming Update Reworks Torbjorn, Halloween Event Coming

Blizzard has released a new developer update for Overwatch, and it talks about some of the changes fans can expect in the Overwatch upcoming update to the game. Chief among these changes is that turret maker Torbjorn is getting a major rework!

Instead of armor packs and the scrap system the dwarf has, he’s getting a new ability called Overload! Molten Core now fires 10 molten globules that create damage pools where they land. Regarding his turrets, it now attacks your marked target, can be thrown and it’ll automatically deploy! Go watch the nine-minute below to hear some of the other changes headed to Overwatch’s PTR.

In addition to Tor getting reworked, more colorblind options are being introduced, and of course, with Halloween around the corner, Overwatch overlord Jeff Kaplan confirms that Halloween Terror is returning!

Lastly, Blizzard mentions that players can expect hero updates to Orisa, Soldier 76, McCree, and Pharah in game update 1.29!

In other Overwatch news, Blizzard has said that Overwatch appearing on the Nintendo Switch is “feasible.”

Battlefield V Info Summary From Dev Talks Episode 2: Attrition, Vehicles & More

Just a few days ago, DICE held episode #2 of the studio’s Battlefield V Dev Talks web series that dives deep into the game. While we already reported on some key details from the episode, like how enemy visibility is being fixed, you can now read the entire summary of what was discussed!

Thanks to Reddit user JealousDevice, you can watch the TLDW version of the Dev Talks episode below.

Tweaking attrition:

  • Devs want to nudge attrition in the right direction but still want it to be fully part of the game.
  • More ammo on spawn.
  • More max ammo capacity.
  • Ammo tweaking will be weapon specific (not all weapons may be affected, some more than others).
  • Medpack on spawn.

Improving visibility:

  • Adding a haze to the background to make enemies stand out. (Example by /u/CrafterOfSwords)
  • Fixing some lighting issues (notably in Rotterdam).
  • Fine tuning lighting in specific locations.

Death experience and pacing:

  • Devs agree with the community that current death timer made the game feel too slow.
  • Devs want highs and lows moments in the game, but find that the high moments are not high enough (this is partially caused by soldier downtime). They want moments of pure chaos.
  • Tweaking “bleeding out” timer, you are not punished anymore if you decide to hang on, respawn timer will be reduced accordingly.

Audio immersion:

  • Fixed the audio bugs which contributed to make the game too silent. Audio should feel like war once again.

Time to kill and time to death:

  • Trying to find that sweet spot to cater to both players who love it or hate it.
  • From the data, players have learned to move closer to cover to avoid getting killed too easily.
  • Certain weapons stand out (more effective at most engagement distances), “won’t name specifics *cough*STG*cough*”. Those are gonna be tweaked to “bring them into the fold”.
  • Confirmed Netcode issues in regards to Time to death, “you receive more damage than you should be in one update, which is due to packet loss, netcode, delays and high rate of fire weapons”. Currently looking into fixing this.

Vehicles (Tanks):

  • Beta testers felt that the tanks were too slow/heavy and not offensive enough against infantry, but dev says the more agile/anti-infantry tanks weren’t in the open beta, as well as anti-aircraft vehicles.
  • Devs were happy with the tuning on the new turret system on the heavy tanks, but plan to make the turret turn faster on the medium and lighter tanks. Light tanks will have a “very fast” turret turning speed.
  • Devs want the tanks to be the “dragons of our game”, once they show up on the field, “everyone should relate to that”. If you see a friendly tank, you should push alongside it, if you see an enemy tank, you should cower in fear.
  • Heavier tanks are robust, hard to take down, but slow, less effective against infantry, more effective against other vehicles, and the opposite is true for lighter tanks, more agile, used to kill infantry, harass and flank.
  • Tweaked systemic damage (such as canon disabled or track disabled), they want to reward players who chip away at tanks without necessarily destroying them, but don’t want to penalize tank drivers too much, leaving them with nothing to do. Added turret damage which slows down turret turning speed, as well as engine damage, which cripples its movement.

Vehicles (Airplanes):

  • Beta feedbacks tell that the difference between the two fighter planes was too great and people didn’t like it. Devs are taking step to make them much more similar and better than they were in open beta.
  • Overall players found fighter planes not agile enough.
  • Not being able to acquire ground targets as easily as in previous titles.
  • Players most happy with the BF 109 plane, but devs say even that one wasn’t were we needed it to be.
  • Tweaked visibility for pilot and gunner, extended spotting range. “We want planes to participate in the ground combat”.
  • Dev excited about the broader spectrum of vehicle classes in BFV, says it was a bit lacking in BF1.
  • Talking about anti-aircraft tanks, such as the Flakpanzer and Valentine MK 1 AA, they have “tons of canons and tons of bullets flying through the sky”.

The next episode is said to air within two weeks, and you can be sure we’ll report about it once we know more. Don’t forget to check out the Battlefield V beta stats released by DICE to know which class was the most used and more.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Microtransactions Have “Tremendous Amount of TLC” Being Put Into It to Make Sure It Makes Sense Says Treyarch

It’s a given that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will feature microtransactions of some kind given how the past few Call of Duty titles this generation featured them, and how much money it brings to Activision’s coffers. However, what we don’t know is what kind of Black Ops 4 microtransactions we’ll see and whether it’ll affect gameplay.

Speaking to Game Informer in a Q&A, Treyarch Design Director David Vonderhaar was asked about Black Ops 4 microtransactions and whether it’ll be fair. While Vonderhaar couldn’t divulge whether we’ll see loot boxes once again or something different, he did say that he knows that a “tremendous amount of TLC” is being put into the microtransactions to make sure it makes sense for Black Ops fans, be it multiplayer, Zombies or Blackout.

Odds are, it’ll once again be loot boxes that can be bought with real world money, which isn’t all that bad as long as no weapons are part of the reward. Hopefully, we won’t see another scenario like what happened in Black Ops 3 wherein a ton of weapons were gated behind loot boxes.

In other Black Ops 4 news, we now know the max rank players can hit in Blackout and that there’s no way to prestige just yet. Also, the game will ship with 11 multplayer maps, with four of them being remakes from past Treyarch Call of Duty titles.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will ship out this October 12 on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Halo Lead Multiplayer Designer Leaves 343 Industries

While 343 Industries is toiling away at Halo: Infinite, it seems the studio has lost a key cog in its development wheel. Over on Twitter, 343 Industries Multiplayer Design Lead Lawrence Mitten announced that he’s exiting the company after five years.

Mitten hasn’t revealed where he’s jumping to next, but given his development portfolio, don’t be surprised if it’s another studio that focus on first-person shooters.

In other Halo news, Halo: Infinite has been confirmed to include microtransactions, but 343 Industries has reaffirmed that it won’t contain any real money loot boxes.

Death Stranding TGS 2018 Trailer Shows Off a Potential Boss Fight

In case you didn’t know, the Tokyo Game Show just happened in Japan, and along with almost any gaming event, game trailers were released. Today, Kojima Productions revealed the Death Stranding TGS 2018 trailer, and it’s all kinds of crazy.

We’re introduced to a new antagonist who wears a golden skull mask and is voiced by Troy Baker (Joel in The Last of us, Revolver Ocelt in Metal Gear Solid V). This unnamed enemy apparently has the power to summon the shadow ghosts living in the game’s world, and he does in the trailer below. What does he conjure up? It’s some sort of giant shadow lion that’s most likely a boss in the game.

Impressive, scary, and insane all at the same time, right? Yep, it’s a Hideo Kojima-developed game, alright.

Death Stranding will have both single-player and multiplayer components, and is being developed exclusively for the PlayStation 4 with no confirmed release date as of the moment.

Report: Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Launching With Only 11 Maps and 4 Are Remakes

While initial feedback from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s multiplayer and battle royale mode Blackout have been favorable so far from the community, it seems there’s a dark cloud looming over the release that some fans might not know yet, and it’s about the game’s multiplayer Black Ops 4 maps available at launch.

We now know that the Black Ops 4 maps available at launch will only be 11, with four of them being remade maps, which leaves us with seven brand-new maps to play on. Add in Nuketown, which is coming post-launch (which is again, another remade map from past Treyarch Call of Duty games), that gives us 12 multiplayer maps confirmed to be available to all players.

In a Q&A with Game Informer, Studio Design Director David Vonderhaar was asked what the Black Ops 4 multplayer map count will be when it launches. Vonderhaar answered that he doesn’t know what the “official announcement” was for the number of maps, but that “you guys know” what are all the maps the game will have plus Nuketown, and adds that this is public information at this point.

For reference here are the 11 multiplayer Black Ops 4 maps that will be available at launch:

Seven New Maps:

Arsenal

Contraband

Frequency

Gridlock

Hacienda

Payload

Seas Side

Four Remade Maps:

Firing Range

Jungle

Slums

Summit

Add in the remade Nuketown which is coming post-launch, and you have 12 total, which is a bit disappointing given four of them are essentially “old” maps. Of course, Treyarch has already promised a slew of free content for all three modes of Black Ops 4 (multiplayer, Zombies, Blackout), so there’s a very big chance that we’ll see more down the road.

It’s not surprising that players are expecting more, though; what with the Black Ops 4 not having any dedicated single-player mode, some fans might have assumed — or hoped — that Treyarch will compensate for this by launching the game with a good number of multiplayer maps.

Remember when past Call of Duty games released with 15+ maps at launch without any Season Pass needed? It’s unfortunate that it seems we’re not going to see that anytime soon again.

Are you OK with the number of Black Ops 4 maps available at launch? How many free maps should Treyarch roll out to make it OK? Let us know what you think of it in the comments.

Report: Devil May Cry 5 to Have Multiplayer, Will Feature 2-3 Players

Here’s something out of left field: it seems Capcom’s upcoming action game, Devil May Cry 5, will have multiplayer of some kind, and what’s more, it’ll be for 2-3 players!

In the game’s official product description on the PlayStation Store, it clearly states that there are “Network Players 2-3” and that PlayStation Plus is required. At the bottom it states online play, though it’s optional. The listing is still live, though there’s a screenshot of it just in case Capcom pulls it.

Note that Capcom has NOT announced DMC 5 multiplayer of any kind — much less 2-3 people playing simultaneously. There is a chance this is a database error or something, so don’t be surprised if this doesn’t pan out.

We’ve reached out to Capcom and will update the story if and when we get a response.

Assuming Devil May Cry 5 does have multiplayer, expect news, and more about the game here on MP1st.

DICE: Battlefield V Beta Netcode Issues Affected Time to Death, Making It “Better” Than BF1 Is the Goal

One of the issues we touched upon in our Battlefield V beta impressions piece ere the time to kill, and time to death, and how fast it seemed compared to past Battlefield games. It seems there’s a good reason for that, and it’s due to the netcode.

In the latest Dev Talks episode, DICE Multiplayer Producer for Battlefield V David Sirland confirmed that netcode issues, packet loss are some of the things to blame for the fast time to death experienced by players. Sirland comments that players got more damage than they should have in one game update due to packet loss, netcode and delays and high rate of fire weapons.

The studio is starting a “little strike team” to fix this issue, and their goal is to make it “better” than what players experienced in Battlefield 1. In the developer chat, DICE also explains that the weapon upgrade system is also another attribute that added to the high time to kill (TTK).

This is good news, right? Unless you really liked the Battlefield V beta’s insanely fast time to kill and time to death. This isn’t all that DICE is tweaking based on beta feedback, as the studio also confirmed that they are adding “distance haze” to make differentiating enemies from the background a tad easier. Don’t forget to check out the Battlefield V beta stats released by DICE in order to see which class was the most used, and more.

Did you like the Battlefield V beta’s high TTK? Do you think DICE will be able to resolve this netcode issue before the game hits retail this November 20?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout Max Rank Is 80 With No Prestige, Leveling System “Very Different”

While Call of Duty players are used to the leveling grind and cycle of hitting the max rank, and then hitting the reset button to prestige, that won’t be the case for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s battle royale mode, Blackout.

In a massive Q&A with Game Informer, Game Design Director David “Vahn” Vonderhaar shared the Black Ops 4 Blackout max rank level, and how the mode’s leveling system is “very different” from multiplayer.

According to the video, which you can watch or listen to here (around the 27:00 mark), the Black Ops 4 Blackout max rank is set at 80, and Treyarch has no plans as of yet to let players prestige. Additionally, Vahn explains that leveling up in Blackout is different compared to standard multiplayer, as earning XP — and the progression system in Blackout as a whole — is dependent on getting kills, ranking high in matches compared to a multitude of ways of earning XP in standard multiplayer — even just for playing the mode. However, Vonderhaar shares that even though there’s no way to prestige, there is a “grandaddy of prizes” for hitting level 80.

There you have it. 80 is the Black Ops 4 Blackout max rank, and sadly, we can’t prestige — at least for now. Of course, given how easy it is to roll out game updates, don’t be surprised if this max rank is increased at some point, or if Treyarch rolls out a prestige-like system for the mode.

In other Black Ops 4 news, Treyarch has promised that the studio will roll out a lot of free content for the game’s three modes post-launch. Speaking of which, the Sony’s timed exclusivity deal with Activision has changed, with the PS4 now only getting seven days early access to any content rolled out for Black Ops 4, compared to 30 days which was the norm in past Call of Duty titles.

Telltale Games Closing Down, Issues Letter to Fans

While MP1st is first and foremost, a multiplayer-centric website about video games, we do like to play story-driven games from time to time. And if that’s what you were looking for, there was no one who did it better than Telltale Games, the studio behind The Walking Dead, Wolf Among Us, and lots more.

Unfortunately, we’re here to report on some bad news. Over on Twitter, Telltale Games announced that the studio is shutting down.

It’s a bummer to read that the studio is closing down to their games under-selling. Let’s hope a publisher buys them out, or at the very least, hires some of the people that the studio let go. We need more studios like Telltale Games that didn’t rely on copying the latest trend or genre, and sad to say, narrative-driven games are a dying breed, though they don’t need to be.

We salute you, Telltale Games! Let’s hope everyone laid off gets back on their feet ASAP.

Battlefield V Beta Stats Revealed, Assault Was the Most Used Class Followed by Recon

While DICE has already talked a bit about the items the studio wants to change in Battlefield V based on community feedback from the beta, the studio isn’t done communicating with its player base — not by a long shot.

In a press release, the studio made an infographic outling some of the key Battlefield V beta stats that people like reading about. In addition to the usual stats, the studio even jotted down some fun ones like “number of snowmen built,” and whatnot. Check it out below.

Surprised? I’m not. Given how dead versatile the STG was in the Battlefield V beta, it’s no surprise that most players flocked to the gun in order to be effective on the battlefield. Recon coming second is not a shocker too, since, well, players love their kills, and sniping does just that.

In other Battlefield V news, DICE outlined how they’re making enemy visibility better in the final game, and that means adding “distance haze.” Other post-beta changes? DICE has also confirmed that the chat filter can be disabled, and even the reflex sight is getting changed.

EA Has 3 Ways People Can Try the Anthem Demo and Here’s All Methods Listed

It’s no secret that BioWare will release an Anthem demo before the game hits retail on February 22, 2019, but it seems there will be multiple ways players can be a part of it.

In an announcement on EA’s official website, the publisher detailed all three methods on how players can gain access to the Anthem demo, and it’s via VIP demo, Early Access, and the Play First Trial.

VIP Demo

The VIP demo kicks off on February 1, 2019 and is open to players who’ve pre-ordered Anthem* as well as current EA Access and Origin Access subscribers**. Both Standard and Legion of Dawn pre-orders receive access to the demo. EA Access and Origin Access members need to have an active subscription at the time of the demo (February 1, 2019) to get access.

Early Access

Early access begins on February 15, 2019 for Origin Access Premier members. This lets you play the full game a week before launch on PC. Members will have early unlimited access to EA’s  full games on PC to play as much as they want five days before launch, as long as they are subscribed to Origin Access Premier. Origin Access Premier members also receive access to 140+ games in The Vault, our library of games that just keeps growing all the time.

Play First Trial

EA Access (for Xbox One) and Origin Access Basic (for PC) members will get to play 10 hours of Anthem as part of the Play First Trial starting on February 15, 2019**. Progress made in the game during the free trial will carry over to the full game if purchased with your 10% member discount or if you become Origin Access Premier member.

As early as now, you can pick your poison, Freelancer!

In other Anthem news, BioWare has confirmed that all Anthem story DLC will be free! The studio also revealed that it has 4-6 teams working on content for the game.

Battlefield V Enemy Visibility Improved and Here’s an Example How

As part of today’s Battlefield V Dev Talks episode, DICE talked about how hard it was to make out enemies in the Battlefield V beta — a fact we mentioned in our hands-on impressions piece. Well, thankfully, that will change in the final version of the game!

According to DICE, Battlefield V enemy visibility will be made better by adding what the studio calls “distance haze” which isn’t a fog (they were adamant it wasn’t). And before anyone reacts negatively, DICE says it won’t be noticeable and that it’s “very subtle.” You can judge from yourself with the screenshot below straight from the Dev Talks episode.

In addition to the “distance haze,” DICE is also tweaking the lighting in maps, and mentioned that the Rotterdam level wasn’t “lit properly” in some areas. This issue has been fixed, apparently, and DICE is also looking into tweaking the lighting in some areas (like alleys) “by hand” to make sure the enemy visibility is in tune to gamers’ needs.

As someone who had problems making out enemies in various engagement distances, this is definitely good news! Let’s hope that we’ll get a chance to test this out even though there’s no second beta planned.
