Anthem Now in Alpha State, BioWare Now Moving to Bug-Fixing, Testing and Tuning

We already know that BioWare’s Anthem will have a demo early next year, but it seems even at this early on, the game is already in a playable state. In a new update on the BioWare Blog, studio General Manager Casey Hudson penned a letter to fans to let them know the status of Anthem.

According to Hudson, Anthem is now in an alpha state, and that “every part of the game is in,” and what’s more, it’s functioning! In addition to that, Hudson shared that the studio is now moving on to bug-fixing, testing, and tuning, which should be a welcome note to hear from those burned by Mass Effect Andromeda’s infestation of bugs.

Here’s a few choice excerpts from Hudson:

Last week, the Anthem team passed its Alpha milestone – meaning that every part of the game is in, and functioning.  It’s a ton of fun to play, and full of engaging character moments and storylines.  But it’s also exciting to see people around the office (and at our partner studios) grouping together for adventures in this new world we’ve created.  BioWare games have always been about capturing a shared experience – whether through a party of fictional characters or other players – and somehow the idea of players being immersed together in the universe of Anthem makes the setting seem even more real.

The team has been working incredibly hard to reach Alpha, and considering the complexity and scale of a game like Anthem, hitting this milestone on time is a tremendous achievement.  So what’s next?  Now that all the important pieces are in the game, we can move almost entirely to bug-fixing, testing, and tuning – which will be an incredible amount of work on a game this big.  We have some really ambitious plans for launch and beyond, and we really want to get it right.  We will have news soon about when you can learn more about Anthem and try it out yourself.

You can read the entire message by Casey Hudson, right here.

In other Anthem news, BioWare has revealed that there are 4-6 teams working on content for the online game. Don’t forget that all story DLC for the game will be free as well.

PS Plus October 2018 Free Games Leaked: Diablo III and Gravity Rush (Update)

Update:

Seems it’s all an error! This coming October’s free games for PS Plus members are Friday the 13th: The Game and Laser League! Check out the full list of free games and a trailer here.

Original Story:

We already ran a few stories regarding the the purported PS Plus October 2018 free games. While Sony will announce the titles within the week, it seems the actual game titles have been leaked by Sony themselves!

Over on the official PlayStation site, it shows the box art for Destiny 2 and God of War III: Remastered, which are September’s free games. but the description of both games are for Diablo III: Eternal Collection, and Gravity Rush: Remastered! Check out the image provided by Reddit user Of course, there’s a chance that this has been listed by Sony in error, but based on the other leaks, this looks to be the real deal. If true, then PlayStation 4 gamers are in for a treat once again. Diablo III is an excellent RPG, and the controls have translated well to the DualShock 4. Gravity Rush Remastered is also a fantastic RPG, so much so that it got a sequel.

If these are the PS Plus October 2018 free games, are you happy with the lot? Or were you hoping for something different?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies Gameplay Leak and New Rumored Info Surfaces

While Treyarch has lifted the lid when it comes to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 info regarding multiplayer and the battle royale mode, Blackout, we still don’t know a lot of details regarding Treyarch’s super popular Zombies mode — at least until today.

Not only do we have new and unofficial footage of Black Ops 4 Zombies gameplay (pre-alpha state), but a ton of Black Ops 4 Zombies info seems to have risen from the dead too! Check out the leaked Black Ops 4 Zombies gameplay below (via Reddit but it has since been pulled), but just as a heads up, the footage is watermarked, and you can definitely see the in-game codes while the action unfolds. Oh, there’s a big watermark (might be NSFW) in it as well, so proceed at your own discretion.

Got that? Good. Next up, we have a ton of Black Ops 4 Zombies info! Reddit user Omnipotentem has shared quite a few details such as spawns, the Lab, general gameplay mechanics for the mode and more!

Classified

  • The Classified Loading Screen features Samantha Maxis.
  • The layout of Classified is similar to that of Five, however there are multiple new and updated rooms, as well as an entirely new Pack-a-Punch area.
    • Spawn
      • Nearby is the first new room where a Teleporter and the 1st Perk Machine can be found.
      • Increased debris.
    • War Room
      • New wall-buy weapons.
      • 2nd Perk Machine.
      • A large globe with red shining lights can be found on the ceiling.
      • An area which is locked via keypad and requires a code for entry.
      • New server room featuring a Mystery Box, Teleporter, and piece of a buildable Trap.
    • Lab
      • Buildable parts for the Shield, Traps, and Power Switch.
      • 3rd Perk Machine.
    • Pack-a-Punch (Old)
      • Where the Pack-a-Punch Machine was located in Five is now a buildable part which is used to amplify the Teleporter and take you to the new Pack-????-Punch location which is cluttered with debris.
  • Alongside Hellhounds, Nova Crawlers return. Nova Gas negates player movement more than the original.
  • Writing can be found on the walls of Classified:
    • “Die to find the truth”
    • “Richtofen is the key”
  • Monitors around the map show iconic locations from the Aether storyline such as Ascension, Moon, MPD, Zombies, and Richtofen himself. TVs also show the location of the Mystery Box and sometimes an Illuminati symbol.

Gameplay

These details are not exactly specific to Classified but are necessary for context sake.

  • Double Pack-a-Punch returns.
  • Despite using the Perk system that the Chaos maps use, the Aether maps use Perk Machines, not God Statues.
  • Perks and the order in which they are present in the map are assigned on a per-player basis.
  • New Perks:
    • Blood Lust/Death Wish – Upon losing the last of your health you are given a second chance and buffs. Has a cooldown.
    • Defensive Tortoise – If the player has equipped the buildable Shield they are protected on all sides, an explosive blast is created upon the Shield being destroyed.
    • Stronghold – Creates a defensive zone around the player while shooting.
    • Widow’s Wail – Similar to Widows Wine, taking damage activates a defensive explosion which freezes Zombies. 2 charges before cooldown.
    • Perception – See Zombies through walls and receive an indicator on-screen when a Zombie is approaching from another direction.
    • PhD Slider – Do I really need to explain? Must be charged by sliding before it can be used.
    • Bandolier – Carry more reserve ammo.
    • Time Slip – Decreased cooldown time on equipment, Perks, and Teleporters.
  • New Elixirs (Gobblegum replacement):
    • Unknown – Teleport to a downed teammate.
    • Control Z – Nearby Zombies become allies and attack hostile Zombies.
    • Unknown – Drop points for teammates to pick up.
  • Talisman Modifiers:
    • Start with certain Perks.
    • Never lose the Perk equipped in X slot.
    • Mystery Box Guarantees.
    • 30+ more
  • Special Weapons (Katana, DG-5, Flamethrower, and Death Machine) increase in strength as Zombies are killed using them.
  • Special Weapons are used to grant the player Armor. The Juggernog Perk is seemingly removed.
  • Operator Weapon Mods from Multiplayer are usable in Zombies.
  • Throwable Equipment:
    • Grenade
    • Semtex
    • Molotov
    • Acid Grenade
    • Fire Grenade
    • Deployable Turret
    • and more

Don’t forget, Treyarch has promised a steady stream of free content for all of Black Ops 4’s three modes, Zombies, multiplayer, and Blackout, post-launch. If you want something more official, check out the Zombies trailer released by Activision.

Battlefield V Assault Class and Combat Roles Detailed

It’s no secret that the Assault class is a versatile class to play as in Battlefield V. It’s so versatile that that it was the most used class in the Battlefield V beta, which was surprising given there wasn’t a lot of vehicles available in the beta.

If you like having a versatile weapon that can handle close and mid-range fights, and taking out vehicles, then the Assault class is for you (via EA).

Related Reading:

Weapons and Gadgets

Assault comes equipped with weapons that have effective hip-fire and respectable range. Their gadgets can weaken or destroy some vehicles, topple Fortifications, and wipe out a nest of enemies with one well-placed sticky dynamite or grenade.

Primary Weapon Categories

  • Assault Rifles
  • Semi-Automatic Rifles

Starter Gadgets

  • Rifle Grenade Launcher
  • Sticky Dynamite

Combat Roles

Combat Roles are tied to classes and provide two traits. Each class gets two Combat Roles at launch, with one equipped as a default, with the other unlocked by playing the game. More will release as part of Tides of War.

Light Infantry (Default)

Face it, sometimes the job of the Assault is to be outright reckless, running muzzle first into the thick of battle. The first of our Assault Combat Roles, Light Infantry, compensates for the extra bullet holes you might incur in the service of your squad with the ability to regenerate more health.

This Combat Role is also for the quick draw shooter who doesn’t always have the proximity of a Support player or enough breathing room to stop and smell the supply point. You know the art of the secret ammo stash and can scavenge additional ammo from fallen soldiers.

Light Infantry Traits

  • Scavenger: Find more ammo on defeated enemies and fallen comrades.
  • Battle Hardened: Regenerate a higher amount of Health than other Combat Roles.

Tank Buster (Unlockable)

Keep playing the Assault Class to unlock the Tank Buster. When the enemy team starts deploying tanks mid-match, spawn as the Tank Buster to soften their steel shell and automatically spot them to everyone on your team, so they can help put the tank out of its misery.

Also, if it’s you that destroys a spotted tank, you’ll reap extra Requisition Points that let your squad call in Reinforcements, like tanks and V-1 rockets, at a quicker pace.

Tank Buster Traits

  •  Tank Painter: Vehicles that you damage become spotted.
  • Tank Scrapper: Vehicles that you destroy yield additional Requisition.

Tips for the Assault Class:

To start, the base Assault Combat Role, Light Infantry, is the perfect entry point for newcomers and veterans alike, thanks to its straightforward traits that aim to give this Combat Role an increased durability and a decreased reliance on assistance from teammates to secure an objective.

Try sprinting between fallen soldiers to collect their dropped ammo – you will always find more than others.

The second Assault Combat Role, Tank Buster, comes equipped with two traits designed to better the odds against vehicles. Simply by damaging a vehicle when playing as the Vehicle Buster, you will spot that vehicle for your entire team. This can make a huge difference for the rest of your team in being able to help take it out – even your friends who are piloting airplanes in the skies above will clearly see the vehicle spotted below for an easier bombing run or strafing run.

Don’t forget to use your mines, dynamite, or rocket launcher to damage a vehicle, too. Even if you don’t manage to destroy it, it is now spotted for your entire team to see.

Stay tuned later this week for more info regarding Battlefield V! Don’t forget to check out the MP1st Battlefield V hub page for the latest news and info.

Battlefield V Recon Class and Combat Roles Detailed

Continuing today’s big blowout on Battlefield V classes, DICE goes in-depth with the Battlefield V recon class!

While it’s called the “Recon” class which is short for reconnaissance, Battlefield players will simply know it as the sniper class. If you like fighting at a distance, and nailing headshots from far away, then the Recon class is for you — just don’t forget to spot enemies in the process, alright? Here’s the starting gadgets and Combat Roles of the Recon class (via EA).

Related Reading:

Weapons and Gadgets

Recon has access to a slew of rifles that rely on accurate, single shot firing. Their ability to steady their aim makes the most of these weapons, but Recon can also be more than effective at medium range, with some training. You don’t have to be the best shot in your squad to contribute, however, as your Gadgets are designed to spot enemies and defend choke points.

Primary Weapon Categories

  • Bolt Action Rifles
  • Self-Loading Rifles

Starter Gadgets

  • Spotting Scope
  • Bouncing Betty Bomb

Combat Roles

Combat Roles are tied to classes and provide two traits. Each class gets two Combat Roles at launch, with one equipped as a default, with the other unlocked by playing the game. More will release as part of Tides of War.

Sniper (Base)

The Sniper Combat Role goes to the ghost who haunts in the distance, the myth who lives in the hills, the soldier who was never there. The ice water in your veins allows you to hold your breath to steady your rifle for an extended period, making it easier to dispatch enemies in streaks. Land a headshot, and you’ll slightly extend the duration of your steadying breath.
Sniper Traits

  •  Steady Hands: Steady your rifle when aiming down sights for a longer duration.
  • Expert Marksman: Your steady duration is partially replenished with each headshot kill.

Pathfinder (Unlockable)

Where the Sniper leads from afar, the Pathfinder Combat Role leads from the front, and behind enemy lines. When a battle shifts locations, you ensure that your squad is not far behind. You have the ability to spawn on any Squad Leader on your team, scout the situation, and then deploy a Spawn Beacon, so that your squad can follow the latest point of conflict.

The Spawn Beacon can also be used to bring your squad to an uncontrolled objective for a quick capture or, if sneaky enough, deploy behind enemy lines to take it from within.

Pathfinder Traits

  • Advance Scouting: You can spawn on friendly Squad Leaders and Spawn Beacons from outside your own squad.
  • Vanguard: You gain additional Requisition Points when someone spawns on your Spawn Beacon.

Tips for the Recon Class:

Recon is typically the Class for players who prefer to engage at medium to long range with Bolt Action Rifles or Self-Loading Rifles. In Battlefield V, the two Combat Roles within this Class have different strengths tailored to different playstyles.

When playing as the Sniper Combat Role, find the perfect sniping spot at long range and hold your breath to steady your scope. Try to string headshot kills together to keep your steady duration replenished.

Pathfinders should look for the latest hotspot on the map, spawn on another squad’s Squad Leader or Spawn Beacon near that location, then use a Spawn Beacon gadget to open the area to your squad mates so they can quickly transport across the map and join you.

Battlefield V Support Class and Combat Roles Detailed

As part of DICE’s on-going look at the Battlefield V classes, we now have the official details regarding the Battlefield V Support class!

In Battlefield V, the Support class isn’t just the ammo resupplier, but you’ll also affect the battle via Fortifications, and building machine gun emplacements. Check out the starting gadgets, weapons, and even tips on how the Support class can be effective (via EA).

Related Reading:

Support Class Weapons and Gadgets

The Support is equipped with tools for enemy suppression and a storm of heavy fire. Your Ammo Pouches supply your squad and balance against the new Attrition System. Your Anti-Tank Mine adds an extra touch to help defend fortified positions.

Primary Weapon Categories

  • Light Machine Guns
  • Medium Machine Guns

Starter Gadgets

  • Ammo Pouch
  • Anti-Tank Mine

Combat Roles

Combat Roles are tied to classes and provide two traits. Each class gets two Combat Roles at launch, with one equipped as a default, with the other unlocked by playing the game. More will release as part of Tides of War.

Engineer (Base)

The Engineer Combat Role is the base for the Support Class. Soldiers look to you to lock down a location in a hurry, since you can build Fortifications faster than any other Class or Combat Role.

You’ve operated oversized weapons since they day you enlisted and can fire from the top and port guns for a longer period before they need to cool down. So, hop into your friend’s tank to man the gunner positions with unparalleled skill in the Engineer Combat Role. Then jump out to repair the vehicle at maximum speed when needed to stay in the fight.

Engineer Traits

  • Vehicle Fixer: You repair vehicles and build Fortifications significantly faster than other Support Class Combat Roles.
  • Heavy Weapons Expert: You can fire static weapons and mounted vehicle weapons for a longer duration before they overheat.

Machine Gunner (Unlockable)

With this Support Class Combat Role, you remain focused amid the wreckage your bullet showers create and can automatically spot enemies that you suppress for your squad to pick off. You’ve tamed those unruly Light or Medium Machine Guns and can suppress hordes of foes more effectively.

Machine Gunner Traits

  • Bullet Storm: You have increased suppression ability.
  • Focused Fire: Automatically spot enemies when you fully suppress them.

Tips for the Support Class:

First, remember, the Engineer excels at building Fortifications at maximum speed.

So, try this! Bring out your Building Tool to see where you can construct Fortifications. Keep a look out for the powerful stationary machine guns that only Support Class Combat Roles can build. A squad of Engineers can quickly build massive defensive structures to make it hard for attackers to push a point.

The second Support Class Combat Role, the Machine Gunner, is more about the handling of powerful LMGs and MMGs but still able to supply friends with vital ammo pouches.

A good option when playing the Machine Gunner is to go prone with your LMG or MMG and deploy its bipod for increased accuracy. Then spray bullets in the direction of groups of enemies for a great chance at suppressing and spotting them.

Battlefield V Medic Class and Combat Roles Detailed

Just yesterday, DICE announced the info roadmap for Battlefield V before it launches later this November. As it turns out, the game’s classes and combat roles are being detailed today!

If you like being in the frontlines and being able to revive your teammates, then check out the official details of the Battlefield V Medic class and what combat roles players can familiarize themselves with (via EA).

Related Reading:

Weapons and Gadgets

You need to be up close to heal and revive, so the easy-to-control, close-quarter SMG is the best choice when you can’t afford the distance of a sniper rifle or lots of time behind a machine gun. Create cover and obscure the enemy’s vision with the Smoke Grenade Launcher and use the opportunity to revive multiple downed friendlies.

Primary Weapon Category

  •  Sub-Machine Guns

Starter Gadgets

  •  Medical Pouch
  • Smoke Grenade Launcher

Combat Roles

Combat Roles are tied to classes and provide two traits. Each class gets two Combat Roles at launch, with one equipped as a default, with the other unlocked by playing the game. More will release as part of Tides of War.

Field Medic (Base)

The Field Medic Combat Role is the squad’s best friend when a fight takes a turn for the worse. You see the bigger picture and know that supplying Medical Pouches to those in need yields additional Requisition Points, which in turn means that your squad will be able to call in more Reinforcements at a quicker pace. Still, you have intense focus and will sprint faster toward downed friendlies that you spot.

Field Medic Traits

  •  Healer: You gain additional Requisition Points when you supply Medical Pouches to teammates.
  • Swift Effort: You sprint faster when calling out to a downed friendly soldier.

Combat Medic (Unlockable)

The Combat Medic Combat Role walks the fine line of altruistic and reckless, sprinting faster to and from gunfire when in low health, ready to dispense health and revive while still knocking down foes with a melee weapon.

Combat Medic Traits

  • Melee Expert: All of your melee attacks automatically take down enemies.
  • Emergency Retreat: You sprint faster when at critical Health.

Finally, DICE has even laid out a few gameplay tips for those who are thinking of playing as a medic in Battlefield V!

Tips for the Medic Class:

Whether you play the Field Medic or Combat Medic, making sure to supply your teammates with Medical Pouches when possible will always help your overall effort. Equipping the Medical Crate as an optional gadget, which you can earn through progression, lets you place healing supplies in set tactical locations instead of requiring you to stay within throwing distance of friends.

Experiment with each Combat Role when you unlock the Medical Crate and see what fits your playstyle and the current situation best.

Field Medics, be sure you try this: use the Spot button to ping your downed friends, which will trigger a temporary burst of sprint speed. This can help reach your friends in time and make you a harder target for pesky enemies. Calling out to downed friends like this will also ping them in the UI to make them aware of your intentions to revive.

Combat Medics, remember to deploy smoke near fallen friends, then engage any enemies nearby with your SMG and your lethal melee attacks. Once the area is clear, use your Medic skills to revive your friends.

  • Adjusted the “Saviour Kill” stat, so that it tracks relevant kills from the whole team and not just the squad members
  • This update will automatically disable CrossFire functionality for players with AMD Graphics Cards running on Windows 8 / 8.1, due to lack of support for multi-GPU with the specified operating system and GPU vendor.

KNOWN ISSUES

  • Squad members that are inside certain land vehicles (Armor, Artillery, Speeder, Tauntaun, Mountable Turrets) are not correctly shown as being inside vehicles on the Squad Spawn screen. The fix has been identified and will be implemented in the next update.

  • The spawn screen UI will, in rare cases, remain on during gameplay on Strike, or Galactic Assault. The issue gets resolved once players choose to respawn. The fix has been identified and will be implemented in the next update.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout Tech Analysis Breakdown

While there’s a ton of news available for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s battle royale mode Blackout, we don’t know the specifics when it comes to how the game actually ran on consoles.

Thanks to the folks over at Digital Foundry, we don’t have to guess! In this 13-minute video, the tech guys over at DF dives deep into the game’s target resolution, frame rates, and more.

Now, if you want to see hard numbers, you can thank Reddit user Kalimine, as he did a quick breakdown of what was discussed!

Based on the data, it seems the Xbox One X version looks the sharpest, though the PS4 Pro has it beat in terms of frame rate performance (which is due to the higher resolution it outputs compared to the PS4 Pro). Bear in mind that these are all based on the Black Ops 4 Blackout beta, which means things could change come launch.

In other Black Ops 4 news, go watch the launch trailer to whet your appetite for the game’s October 12 launch. We also posted the Q&A summary with Design Director David Vonderhaar right here.

Report: Diablo Animated Series Coming From Netflix

In case you didn’t know, Netflix produced a Castlevania animated series that garnered generally positive response from fans and critics alike. Well, it seems the entertainment giant isn’t stopping there, as a Diablo Netflix series is being produced as well!

This confirmation came from Boom! Studios founder Andrew “Andy” Cosby who tweeted, “I guess I can confirm I am indeed in final talks to write and show-run the new DIABLO animated series for Activision and Netflix.” Cosby also adds, “It’s very exciting and I hope to the High Heavens it all works out.” Since then, the tweet has been deleted, which means Blizzard and/or Netflix most likely didn’t want the information public yet. Either that, or Cosby lost his chance to write and run the show.

Given how fantastic the Castlevania animated series is, I’m all for Diablo getting the Netflix treatment as well. And who knows? It might tie up into the inevitable Diablo IV announcement when it’s announced or released, right?

Bethesda Lets Cancer-Stricken Boy Play Fallout 76 Ahead of Release

Here’s something good to brighten your day/night. Bethesda, publisher of such games like Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, DOOM, and many more, made cancer-stricken boy’s wish come true, as the company gave him a chance to play Fallout 76 before release.

Wes, a 12-year old boy from Virginia, USA,  who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at the age of five. was told earlier this month that doctors recommended that treatment be stopped due to the progression of the disease. Once this news was delivered, Wes realized that without treatment, he was almost certainly not going to be able to play Fallout 76, a game he pre-ordered back when it was announced in June.

When Bethesda heard the Wes’ dire situation, they sprung into action. On a Facebook page devoted to Wes’ battle with cancer, his parents posted a message mentioning how Bethesda’s Martino Cartier drove four hours from Maryland to hand deliver a surprise package of Fallout 76 goodies.

Days after Wes had been told that Sloan wanted to stop treatment, he cried to us that he just realized that he probably would never get to play the Power Armor Edition of the new Fallout 76 game he had preordered as soon as it was announced back in June which isn’t set to be released until this November. He brought it up multiple times in the following days.
Thanks to Martino Cartier, Wes didn’t have to wait. Bethesda’s (the company that makes the game) very own Matt Grandstaff drove 4 hours from Maryland to our home to hand deliver this surprise. He spent the day at our house watching Wes play, making him the first person in the world outside of the video game industry employees to play. He also received the first prototype of the power armor helmet that will be included in the new release, only his was signed by Todd Howard of Bethesda himself. While he doesn’t get to keep the game because it’s too early, just those hours of playtime made him happier than you know HUGE thank you to Martino and the team at Bethesda for jumping through hoops to make this happen for him ❤️❤️❤️It means the world to us and him.

There’s also a bunch of screenshots of the event, showcasing Wes wearing a power helmet, and enjoying the day with his family.

This one touching story, and goes to show how video games can impact someone’s life for the better. If you want to donate to Wes’ medical expenses and other stuff, you can do so via his GoFundMe page.

Fallout 76 is set for release this November 14 on the PS, Xbox One, and PC.
