Early Access and Open Battlefield V Beta Release Date Announced, New GeForce RTX Trailer Released

In a press release, DICE has finally announced the Battlefield V beta release date! Those who pre-order or managed to get early access beta keys, the beta starts September 4; while the Battlefield V beta will be open to everyone on September 6. No timed exclusivity for platforms, either, as this date applies to all platforms — PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

In the beta, gamers will be able to play the Rotterdam and Artic Fjord map on both Conquest and Grand Operations.

The Open Beta will showcase the soon-to-be-iconic Rotterdam map on Conquest mode as well as the Arctic Fjord map on both Conquest and Grand Operations. Revealed just last week, the Rotterdam map will immerse players in a battle fought throughout the streets of Holland where the game’s dynamic physicality and destruction will be on full display. New to the Battlefield franchise, Grand Operations is a multiplayer experience across multiple maps and modes that takes players through a powerful narrative journey inspired by historical events. All of this Open Beta content can be previewed by attendees of gamescom this week, where it will be playable in Hall 6 on the show floor on PC and Xbox One X.

You can read more about the four known launch maps which include the Artic Fjord and the Rotterdam map, right here.

Also mentioned in the same press release is the a new trailer specifically made for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX! Watch it below.

DICE showcased NVIDIA’s new RTX technology announced during NVIDIA’s press conference with a jaw-dropping live demo of Battlefield V on PC, one of the first games being developed on the NVIDIA RTX platform to feature real-time ray tracing as a rendering technique. Previously used to pre-render lifelike worlds in movies, ray tracing with the NVIDIA RTX platform brings real-time, cinematic-quality rendering to video games. In Battlefield V, NVIDIA RTX allows DICE to imitate the way light is reflected in the real world enhancing the fidelity of reflective surfaces in every level, map and locale in the game. This will ensure Battlefield V feels more lifelike and dynamic, leading to a more immersive experience that makes players feel like the battle is unfolding in a full 360-degrees around them. The use of real-time ray tracing in Battlefield V is made possible by NVIDIA’s new GeForce RTX 20 series GPUs.

Once we know more details about the beta, we’ll be sure to let our readers know. In the meantime, go check out the list of confirmed guns set to be in Battlefield V!

Battlefield V is set to hit the PS4, Xbox One, and PC this October 19.

Here’s 6 Minutes of Rainbow Six Siege Grim Sky Operators Gameplay and Gadget Tips

While we already posted leaked gameplay of Rainbow Six Siege Operation: Grim Sky, and even the loadouts of the new Operators included in the new season, Ubisoft has finally given us an official Rainbow Six Siege Grim Sky gameplay look!

Check out the six-minute gameplay video below where we’ll see the new Operators — Crash, and Maverick — and what their new gadgets bring to the table. Oh, there’s also a reworked look at Hereford Base as well.

The press release also includes blurbs for the new Operators and the reworked Hereford Base map.

New Operators:

In Operation Grim Sky, Rainbow’s Urban Tactical Response Team, codenamed Grim Sky (or GSUTR), gains two recruits – Clash, from London’s Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), and Maverick, from The Unit. Clash, a new British Defender, is an expert on mob behavior and snatch-squad tactics as an officer of the MPS. She is a tough veteran, and a leading expert in riot control. Clash is notable for her Crowd Control Electro (CCE) Shield, which uses tasers to slow and damage nearby enemies, discouraging pushes and encouraging retreats.

Maverick, a new American Attacker, is a member of The Unit serving as the regional specialist in Kabul, where he was a legend among Intelligence Collectors as the spook who “went native.” Maverick is a hard-breacher via his Suri Torch gadget, a high-power blow torch capable of burning through surfaces at an almost inaudible level, including reinforced walls.

Hereford Base:

The iconic Hereford Base training camp has received a complete map rework. In the period since the original prototype became the first map added to the Siege beta, the developers have gained over two years of design experience. They have leveraged this knowledge in Operation Grim Sky by updating Hereford Base to match the competitive standard of Rainbow Six® Siege in 2018.

In the same press release, Ubisoft has announced that the Test Server for Operation Grim Sky will go live on August 20. For those not familiar with the Test Server, it’s where players can test upcoming gameplay features that will make its way into the game itself once enough testing and tweaking has been made.

Battlefield V Weapons – Here’s What’s Confirmed to Be in So Far

While DICE hasn’t been in a sharing mood when it comes to Battlefield V info, that hasn’t stopped fans from mining the trailers we have of the shooter so far. Thankfully, the latest gameplay video released has its fair share of infantry combat, as we now have a list of the confirmed Battlefield V weapons so far.

Thanks to Reddit user Zombierus, we now have a preliminary list of the weapons confirmed to be usable in Battlefield V. Bear in mind that this isn’t the complete list — though even just the ones shown, it’s still a considerable lot.

battlefield 5 weapons list

Again, it bears repeating that this isn’t the full confirmed list. There’s a very big possibility that there are more weapons to unlock in the final game. And there’s also the equipment, and weapon skins and more. So progression fans will have a ton of stuff to unlock.

In other BFV news, DICE has confirmed that vehicle customization will be available to players post-launch. Also of note, analyst firm Cowen, has mentioned that pre-order sales for the shooter have been “weak.”

Gamescom 2018 Reveals Will Include Games From Square Enix, Ubisoft, Bandai Namco & More

This year’s big gaming show from Germany, gamescom, is set to happen in just a few days, and while no traditional press conference is lined up, that doesn’t mean there won’t be any gamescom 2018 reveals and game announcements.

The press team of the event reached out to media with a press release and mentioned that at 5 a.m. ET (8 a.m. PT) on August 21, the opening ceremony will take place, and multiple video game publishers will rock the event with “global premieres” for unannounced games.

Some of the big-name publishers that have confirmed to be announcing something are: Square Enix with the first trailer for Dontnod Entertainment’s Life Is Strange 2, Deep Silver will make a new announcement, THQ Noridc is also set to announce a game based on one of its established brands, Bandai Namco Entertainment is set to announce something too, and even Ubisoft is getting in on the action.

Of course, given gamescom is a relatively smaller event compared to E3, don’t expect each and every announcement to be a megaton, but at least there will be new stuff to look forward to, right?

On the multiplayer side of things, Activision has confirmed it will be in attendance and will even bring a new playable map for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. EA has also confirmed that Battlefield V will be playable on the show floor, and even released the gamescom trailer this past week to whet appetites.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Netcode Analysis From the Beta Revealed and It’s Quite Surprising

While Treyarch has already talked about some of the major changes to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 based on feedback from the beta, there’s one thing a lot of people seem to have forgotten about — or haven’t given it much though — and it’s the servers, and how the Black Ops 4 netcode works.

Fortunately, the folks over at Battle (non)sense have whipped up yet another video diving deep in the Black Ops 4 netcode, how it works and so on. Check it out below.

Too technical for you? Reddit user Sethos88 summed it up, and it’s good news so far.

  • Seemed to be 100% Dedicated – No listen servers, like we’ve seen previously.
  • IP of other players is exposed (!)
  • Game shuts down when you try to Wireshark capture, for some reason. They don’t want people snooping around?
  • Server tick is about 62 / Client tick is 46-58, which is unusual
  • The comparison charts against other games
  • He couldn’t test lag compensation, due to his test player dying too fast 😛
  • His first impressions are good.

Reddit user Linkinito also posted a summary as well:

Quick summary or TL;DW (even though you should watch this video).

  • No listen servers, only dedicated servers – as no host migrations has been reported to the videomaker.
  • IP of all players are still shown to everyone – MAJOR ISSUE HERE. Even if VOIP is disabled in the game options, your IP still appears. Also, to avoid all problems of DDOS, there should be a separate VOIP server, or make the game server take care of the VOIP.
  • Update rates are in average 50hz Client → Server and 60hz Server → Client.
  • Network delays are pretty good: at 25ms ping (40ms in-game), we have in average 53ms in Damage, 55ms in Gunfire animation, and 69ms in Movement animation. They are better than WWII at launch, but that can be improved further.
  • Bandwidth usage is low (200 kb/s down, 81 kb/s up).
  • No lag compensation test could have been attempted. The test willbe done on the final version.
  • Ping was included in-game at the last moment, and include the processing delays from the game (that’s why it’s higher than the ICMP echo request).
  • No warning icons about their connection. They should be added for the final product.
  • Graphic and sound settings on PC are top notch. Good job on you /u/TreyarchPC !

So far so good, no? Of course, things can change come release, but for now, let’s give Treyarch the benefit of the doubt.

You can read our Black Ops 4 beta impressions piece right here to see what we make of it so far.

Battlefield V Vehicle Customization Coming After Launch, 4 Launch Maps Detailed

In case you didn’t see it yesterday, DICE released a brand new Battlefield V trailer that not only showcased a bit of gameplay, but it even showed us our first tease of the shooter’s battle royale mode.

If you’re thirsty for more Battlefield V info, then lucky you! DICE has named four maps that will be available at launch, and has even detailed the backstory behind ’em. We’ve outlined the important — and new info — below (via Battlefield).

The Rotterdam Map

What briefly appears as a blissful panorama is quickly marred by the haze and smoke in the distance, emanating from the embattled streets of Rotterdam. This shot introduces one of four Battlefield V maps debuting in this trailer. The Rotterdam map is influenced by the imperiled city in Holland during May 1940, where the German invading forces met fierce opposition from the Dutch military.

The Devastation Map

The map is inspired by the second half of the Rotterdam blitz by the German forces. While the Rotterdam map shows the city at the start of the attack, Devastation recreates the terrible aftermath of intensive bombardments. The ruined streets are built with dynamic destruction. No matter what destroys a building, different parts of it will crack, move, and crumble over time, making destruction more realistic than ever.

The Rotterdam and Devastation maps will be featured in an early Grand Operation, the Battle of Holland.

The Twisted Steel Map

The once-serene French countryside is the location for the next Battlefield V map, Twisted Steel. Set during the initial invasion of France, Twisted Steel is defined by open marshes and sporadic dense thickets of trees. Torrents of gunfire have flooded the soil with shell casings, shrapnel, and the assorted litter of war.

The massive bridge that towers over the map is the biggest structure ever modeled in a Battlefield game. However, the giant structure is more than a set piece, because of its vital location for squads to either prepare a defense with hastily constructed Fortifications or mount a coordinated assault on a Conquest point.

The Hamada Map

Hamada will be one of two North Africa maps available at launch. The map, crawling with tank warfare in the trailer, is inspired by a strategic point between Libya and Egypt and the scene of pivotal battles between the Axis and Allies during 1941 and 1942.

In case you didn’t read the text above, there will be two North Africa-based maps available at launch.

Also of note, when speaking about vehicles and aircraft, it was casually slipped in that Battlefield V vehicle customization will be available after launch.

These shots, and similar ones that appear throughout the trailer, are a quick display of the arsenal of customized vehicles and aircraft you can collect as part of The Company. Seen from the cockpit of an advancing tank or from the planes diving through fiery plumes of smoke, players can upgrade these vehicles and aircraft to fit their playstyle. Choose between greater firepower or improved durability. Coming after launch for vehicles is visual customization, too.

In other Battlefield V news, early reports from analysts claim that pre-order sales of the game have been weak so far. Will the new trailer and slow trickling of info help? We’ll find out soon enough.

Housemarque New Game “Stormdivers” Teased in Short Clip

If you’re a fan of Housemarque’s titles like Dead Nation and Nex Machina, and the news that the studio is moving away from arcade shoot-’em-ups made you a bit sad, then this might be the perfect remedy as the Housemarque new game (or project) has just been given the teaser trailer treatment!

In a press release, Finnish studio Housemarque has announced it’s new game titled “Stormdivers.” While no actual gameplay is shown in the teaser trailer, the press release mentions it’s a new multiplayer IP, with the official reveal and announcement happening next week at gamescom.

According to Housemarque, fans can expect a lot more footage on a more frequent basis, and a deeper look into what makes it different from what the studio has made before, as well as when compared to the competition.

We know it’ll have vehicles and guns, and it won’t be an arcade shooter. If the studio can bring the same level of quality as its previous titles, then fans are in for a treat.

Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts Announced, First Details Revealed

Are you a fan of shooting people over long distances? Want to watch them drop down and die in slow motion? If the answer to both of those are yes, then chances are you’re a fan of CI Games’ Sniper Ghost Warrior franchise! Yes, there’s a new entry but it’s not called Sniper Ghost Warrior 4!

In a press release, CI Games has announced “Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts” which, according to CI Games, introduces the franchise to the harsh climate of the Siberian wilderness, and introduces a brand new way to play with the contracts system.

Set to launch sometime in 2019 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts will include both single-player and multiplayer components.

Drawing upon community feedback, Contracts delivers tense, mission-based scenarios with CI Games’ best sniping ever. This is all thanks to the new contracts system, which takes a step back from Sniper Ghost Warrior 3’s open world. In the single player campaign, players dive headfirst into tailor-made contract missions that offer a clear main objective with a fixed monetary reward, and have the option to complete secondary objectives for bonus payouts. Feel like you can do better? Jump back in and tackle the mission from a different angle — players can repeat every contract to earn more money.

Contracts distills the core sniping gameplay that series fans have come to love, offering dense, more focused maps that reward tactical thinking. With a wealth of optional objectives to complete, the combination of open-ended missions and emergent gameplay ensure these scenarios are wildly replayable. Couple this with the intense environmental obstacles presented by the harsh, modern-day Siberian wilderness, as well as hundreds of ways to take down a wide range of targets, and Contracts offers sniping gameplay at its absolute best.

According to the press release, Contracts will use a “more optimized” game engine, minimized load times, and a more stable frames-per-second.

Destiny 2: Forsaken Info Leak Details New Strikes, Story Details and More

Just last week, Reddit user Ginsor posted a wealth of information regarding Destiny 2: Forsaken. Well, as it turns out, the leaker was right on the money (for the most part). In today’s Bungie blog update, the Destiny 2 Forsaken info leak was confirmed, and we’ve got the summary right here.

Thanks to ResetEra user Strakt. the confirmed new stuff can be read below. Word of warning, though, there are spoilers within.

  1. RAID

    • The new raid is called “Last Wish” and will have a normal and prestige mode.
    • The raid boss is called Dul Incaru, the Eternal Return (not 100% sure about that).
    • There will be something like a one-time challenge to finish the new raid within 24h after its launch.

    NEW STRIKES (edited)

    • The 4 new strikes are called: “Warden of Nothing”, “The Hollowed Lair”, “The Corrupted”, & “Broodhold”.
    • All 4 will – as always – also be available as nightfall versions.
    • The nightfall versios will have special challenges such as not receiving any arc damage in the final encounter.

    GAMBIT

    • Gambit will have a ranking system called “Infamy”.
    • Similar to Crucible, you will unlock gear and ornaments while increasing your rank.
    • Infamy can be resetted.
    • The highest Infamy Rank seems to be level 15.
    • Hawthrone will have a new clan engram for Gambit.

    MASTERWORK CORES

    • Weekly clan milestones let you receive a masterwork core.
    • There is a chance of obtaining a masterwork core with a Boss kill.
    • Masterwork cores can be purchased (I don’t know where and for which currency).

    DUNGEON

    • There will be a dungeon called “The Shattered Throne”.
    • Multiple activities will take place in this dungeon.
    • At some other part of the game we will receive an unpurified version of an armor set called “Reverie Dawn”, which we can purify through different activities in “The Shattered Throne”.

    PETRA VENJ

    • Petra Venj returns as a new NPC (probably at the Reef).
    • Petra Venj offers special bounties with certain goals such as completing all of them within one week.

    CLAN FOCUS

    • A stronger focus on clan activities.
    • Examples would be milestones/goals such as completing raids, strikes, nightfalls, crucible matches, escalation protocols, etc. together.
    • Some of them require even a full 6-player clan-fireteam such as the completion of “Last Wish”.
    • Playing with clanmates can grant special buffs in certain activities, e.g. increased recovery/resilience/mobility.

    ACE OF SPADES

    • There is a mission where we will have to reclaim Ace of Spades back from Uldren.
    • Once reclaimed, it will first be a broken version and we have repair it through a longer quest series with several steps in multiple activities.

    PRISON ESCAPEES

    • We will have to hunt down escpaees of the Prison of Elders in multiple activities.
    • E.g. Finding escapees in the patrol zones of other planets, in lost sectors, at public events, etc.

    COLLECTIONS

    • Collections will also include Destiny 1 achievements (console players only obviously).
    • Examples are completion of campaigns and raids, character transfer to Destiny 2, Reaching the Lighthouse, triumphs, certain Grimoire score, collection of specific weapons such as Thorn, the Last Word, and Gjallarhorn, etc.

    COSMETICS

    • New ghost shapes (pyramid/triangle-like shape; something looking similar to an override frequency; fallen-themed)
    • Taken-themed sparrow

    STORY
This last part – probably the most interesting for most of you – is a very rough summary and I’m also not 100% certain here. But the following is what I got from the story.

    • Uldren thinks his sister, Queen Mara, is still alive.
    • He thinks she is trapped by the Techeun Illyn in the Dreaming City.
    • In order to save her she is telling him in his “visions” to open the gates to the Dreaming City.
    • He somehow allies with the prisoners in the Prison of Elders in order to achieve his goal.
    • While trying to regain control of the prison alongside with Petra Venj, Cayde-6 dies.
    • After Uldren succeded to open the gate to the Dreaming City, he immidiately gets killed by a creature, but the gate remains open.
    • It is now Petra Venj’s duty to protect the city, in which all Awoken secrets and treasures are kept (and we will help her with that).

Yep, that’s a lot of stuff alright. If you’re going to gamescom, don’t forget that the hybrid mode Gambit will be playable on the show floor. Destiny 2: Forsaken will launch this September 4.

Diablo III Headed to Nintendo Switch Later This Year (Update)

Update:

And here’s the trailer where we even get guest appearances from Nintendo boss Reggie Fils-Aime and Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime!

Original Story:

With the Nintendo Switch selling like gangbusters, it’s not surprising that more and more third-party developers are porting games over to the system. Add in the tease that Blizzard tweeted out earlier this year, and well, Diablo III coming to the Nintendo Switch is a given at this point.

Set for an actual press announcement tomorrow, website Forbes (via Kotaku) has accidentally published the story ahead of time (it has now since been pulled). Called the “Diablo III Eternal Collection,” the Nintendo Switch version of Blizzard’s latest dungeon crawler will include the original base game, the Reaper of Souls expansion, the Rise of the Necromancer pack, and all the game updates the title has received so far. In addition to that, players will even get an armor set that will make you look like Ganondorf from The Legend of Zelda.

Diablo III on Switch will also support multiplayer via four-player local co-op on the same console, to four-player co-op on separate Nintendo Switches without the need for a net connection. And of course, there’s full fledged online co-op that can mix and match local and online players.

While no specific release date has been given yet, Diablo III Eternal Collection will be priced at $59.99, and is set to come out sometime this year.

I’ve played Diablo III to my heart’s content, but the fact that I can play it co-op on the same Switch on the go? Yeah, I might just have to give this another go.

Overwatch on Nintendo Switch “Feasible” According to Blizzard

With yesterday’s accidental announcement that Diablo III is headed to the Nintendo Switch, it’s only natural that some fans might be assuming that other Blizzard Entertainment titles will be making its way to Nintendo’s console-handheld hybrid.

While there’s no definite answer whether we’ll be seeing an Overwatch Nintendo Switch edition anytime soon, at least Blizzard’s answer isn’t a concrete “no.” In an interview with GameSpot, Senior Producer Pete Stilwell mentioned that an Overwatch Nintendo Switch port could be “feasible.”

“Anything is within the realm of possibility. Our team was given the task to work on this. If [Overwatch developer] Team 4 picks up that endeavour, that’s on them. As of right now Diablo is our only focus on Switch.”

When asked if Overwatch can run on Switch, Stilwell said, “Yes it is feasible,” which is good enough for Nintendo fans who want to experience Blizzard’s top-selling hero shooter.

Do you think we’ll see Overwatch on the Nintendo Switch anytime soon? Would you buy a copy of the game again just to be able to play it on the go? I admit, the possibility is tempting.

Rainbow Six Siege New Operator “Maverick” Coming in Grim Sky, Free Weekend Starts Today

With Ubisoft set to officially reveal Rainbow Six Siege Season 3: Operation Grim Sky during the Six Major in Paris this weekend, that hasn’t stopped the publisher from slowly revealing info about some of the new stuff coming into the third season.

While we’ve already seen the teaser trailer for defender, Crash, there’s a new attacker in town and he’s called Maverick! Check out the Rainbow Six Siege new Operator trailer for Maverick below, and read on for more info about him.

Maverick is known for his precise work and keen mind, yet he remains an enigma within Rainbow Six.

He was investigating the case of a missing reporter when he himself went MIA. The Unit had no means of communicating with him. Maverick re-emerged two years later with enough intel to dismantle a major insurgency operation. No one knows what really happened to him during those two years, but he’s been seen carrying a D.I.Y. blowtorch ever since, one that can make holes in metal surfaces. On the field, he’s found multiple uses for it, including but not limited to making murder holes. It takes a patient and fast Operator like Maverick to hold those angles.

Maverick’s expertise and his list of successful missions became the stuff of legend among Intelligence Collectors, gaining the attention of Rainbow Six.

It takes someone with exceptional intelligence, a deep understanding of human behavior, and high adaptability to one’s environment to do what he does. The one person who still does it best is Erik “Maverick” Thorn.

The full reveal for Maverick will be this August 17-19 during the Six Major in Paris. MP1st will be sure to cover any new info regarding the new content in Grim Sky.

Coinciding with the Six Major tournament, Ubisoft has announced that people can play Rainbow Six Siege for free from August 16-20! This applies for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Same as the free play weekends before this one, players who try the game during the free weekend can carry over their progress once they purchase the game. There’s also a 60 percent discount on the Starter, Standard, Advanced, Gold, and Complete Editions between today to August 27.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Fog of War Nerfed, Other Feedback From Beta Detailed

While some people might see the recently concluded Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta as a “demo” given the timeframe when it’s rolled out, the feedback gathered from it really can make a difference in the final product, and it seems it already has.

In a new post, Treyarch has now listed some of the key changes it’s making to the final retail version of Black Ops 4 based on beta feedback. Chief among them? The dreaded Black Ops 4 Fog of War is being nerfed! Note that Treyarch hasn’t listed or announced every single change it’s doing to the final game, but it seems like the big ones have been touched upon.

Fog of War & Minimap Awareness

Fog of War in the minimap was designed to strengthen situational awareness and guide moment-to-moment decision-making with a benefit to the entire team. Because we know a lot of players don’t want to talk on the mic or engage in teamwork, we designed it (and all gameplay features) to be effective first and foremost to the player using it, and then also helpful to teammates even passively. An enemy that’s spotted by your teammate will appear in your minimap as well, so even lone wolves are helping their team whether they mean to or not.

The full Fog of War reveal circle around each player in the minimap was designed to increase situational awareness for a fighting chance against attacks from the back. The circle generated just as much passionate debate within Treyarch as it did within the community, and we wanted to let it play out in the Beta to see where it landed. It’s proven to be too powerful as default functionality, so we’re making a few changes for a more balanced Fog of War:

  • The full reveal circle will be removed as default functionality, and the standard reveal area will be a cone that reflects the player’s field of view. This will continue to always be blocked by solid objects in the game, so it can never be used to “see through walls”.
  • We’re moving the full reveal circle to the Team Link perk. This way, players who want that power will need to spend a point in Create-a-Class to get it and compete with their choices for other powerful items. This also gives Team Link a much-needed boost, as it significantly underperformed in the Beta.
  • We’re adding an additional HUD indicator that lets you know when you’re visible to enemy players in the minimap so that you can react accordingly.
  • Red dots in the minimap that appear when firing your gun will fade faster so there’s more time to evade after engaging in a gunfight.
  • Those same red dots will no longer reveal teammates that are near the player firing their gun.

Tac-Deploy & Spawning

The spawn system is key to ensuring the gameplay of Black Ops 4 shines, and it is influenced by a number of factors which differ across every map and mode. We have a suite of tools that lets us track bad spawns (spawns where players give or receive damage within 3 seconds) and make changes to prevent them from happening. It’s impossible to get the percentage of bad spawns to zero, but we constantly tune to get it as low as possible, generally in the 2-3% range. Thanks to community video clips, comments, and gameplay data, we were able to identify several issues within the spawn system that were creating scenarios that did not meet our expectations. These issues were most prevalent in round-based game modes like Domination. The team is hard at work resolving those issues for the best possible spawn system on launch day.

The Tac-Deploy was designed to give the ability to redirect the flow of combat at strategically important moments by creating a secondary team spawn area in the map. The concept was inspired by the tactics employed by the community when playing Hardpoint in Black Ops 2, where a teammate would “anchor” spawns on the next Hardpoint to get their team to the objective faster. This cool, emergent behavior was not only a valid tactic but became necessary to consistently win the mode. The Tac-Deploy brings this idea into other modes with the goal of creating periodic team shifts to take or defend an objective, break out of a pattern, or strategically push in a new direction. An easy counter for the opposing team is to run the Engineer perk and hunt down any enemy-owned Tac-Deploys.

In the Beta, the Tac-Deploy proved to be a tad too strong and understanding when you spawned on a Tac-Deploy wasn’t strong enough. To smooth it out for launch, we’re making a few changes:

  • We’ve shortened the duration that a Tac-Deploy is active, lengthened its cooldown time, and limited the number of spawns per use to 10. This will help to fulfill the goal of providing short bursts of strategic positioning shifts.
  • We’re relaxing the radius around which players will spawn on a Tac-Deploy so that there is more room to spread out, and enemies attempting to disable it won’t suddenly get overwhelmed by a surge of defenders.
  • We’re adding a notification to the death cam (where camera breaks into third person when you die) that displays when a Tac-Deploy is active and whether there is danger nearby, and another notification that appears in the game HUD after you spawn on a Tac-Deploy.

Body Armor & Gear

In service to the overarching goal of increasing gameplay depth, we introduced the Gear category to Create-a-Class in Black Ops 4. Each Gear item will compliment different styles of play, allowing players to optimize into their preferred style. If you like to play aggressively, preferring to move in fast bursts and surviving multiple gunfights, you’ll likely find Stim Shot to your liking. If you’re a player who prefers to roll the dice for high risk and high reward, you may prefer the COMSEC Device to push for bigger Scorestreaks. If you enjoy supporting the team for the win, you’ll likely gravitate to Equipment Charge to power up your Specialist content more frequently. If you rely more on positioning and situational awareness for victory, the Acoustic Sensor is for you. And if you’re a more cautious player who likes the push and pull of objective play, Body Armor should be optimal for that.

The balance for this category wasn’t quite dialed in for the Beta, and we’ll be improving that for launch. While Stim Shot was the most popular piece of Gear, Body Armor was the most controversial, so we want to address some of the changes that are coming to that specifically:

  • Explosives should shred Armor – that was not working in the Beta, and we’re fixing that.
  • Damage is now reduced by armor rather than being completely deflected by it.
  • Some of the player feedback from the game when fighting against a player with Armor was “cranked to 11,” and made it feel a lot worse than it actually was, so we’re reducing it to feel less annoying.
  • We added extra +25 bonus score reward for every kill against players with Armor to help feed your Scorestreak meter.
  • We’re also experimenting with a number of ideas to better support its role while also making it less appealing to highly aggressive players (for example, impacting certain aspects of movement speed or protection coverage area).

In the same post, Treyarch confirmed that UI navigation will support free cursor and d-pad in the final game. Also of note, loadouts in killcams will indeed be back as we’ve previously reported. You can check out the full post below. It’s a long read but it explains the design decisions the studio has made so far.

Halo: Infinite Is Halo 6 According to Microsoft

At this year’s E3, one of Microsoft’s biggest guns on stage was the reveal of a new Halo title called “Halo: Infinite.” If you’re one of the many people wondering why Microsoft didn’t call it “Halo 6”, then worry no more.

In a recent Mixer broadcast,(via GameSpot) 343 Industries’ Jeff Easterling has confirmed that Halo: Infinite is indeed the sixth main entry in the Halo franchise — even if it’s not called directly by that title.

It is Halo 6. You should just consider it Halo 6. Don’t think of it as a weird prequel kind of thing. It’s the next story. It’s the next chapter in what is going on.

Aside from that tidbit, we also know that Master Chief will be the central protagonist in Halo: Infinite, which is a departure from Halo 5 where players divided time playing as the Chief and Agent Locke. Many had wished for it to be more focused around Chief story, though in its defense, Locke’s campaign wasn’t that bad.

Halo: Infinite is the 6th entry in the Halo franchise as it will be a direct continuation of Halo: 5. Let’s hope that Microsoft releases gameplay soon along with a possible release date.
