The Last of Us Multiplayer – Leaked Customization Items Uncovered, May or May Not Be Released

When the Grounded DLC bundle launched last Tuesday, Naughty Dog and Sony also ‘accidentally’ published some additional DLC for character customization.

A few people were able to nab them before being taken down, however.

Below, you can see a video of all the new items, which look rather cool. As a bit of a warning, turn down the volume, as the uploader shouts a bunch throughout the video. It is also not safe for work.

[youtube id=”QvQw0nnTdKU”]

Multiplayer designer Erin Daly responded to questions about the customization items during the Reddit AMA, saying “Those were items we were testing. We can’t say at this point whether they’ll be released or not.”

The Last of Us Multiplayer – New Content Being ‘Prototyped, Remastered Targeting 60FPS, And More

During their Reddit AMA, Lead Multiplayer Designer, Erin Daly, from Naughty Dog studios highlighted the future of The Last of Us multiplayer.

First answer up was by us, asking whether we would be receiving anymore DLC for the multiplayer. While it’s not a definite yes, it certainly isn’t a definite no.

“We’re prototyping to see what works. We’ll announce something if we have something,” Daly answered. As for new modes, Daly notes, “We’d love to add more modes, but time and resources limit our opportunity to add anything as large as a game mode. Additionally, splitting up the player base more would cause more issues with matchmaking.”

Speaking of testing things out, Daly also noted that balancing was the most difficult thing when working on the multiplayer.

“The most challenging thing for me personally was balance. I worked on the weapons, skills and a map in this last DLC, along with balancing many of the other maps and it was always challenging and my highest priority. I am a big multiplayer gamer and I always enjoyed games that felt balanced so I really focus on that aspect when I’m working. I wanted all the new weapons and skills to have their own place along with the existing items so no items would be overshadowed or made obsolete.”

As for the Remastered PlayStation 4 version, we also asked if the new weapon and perk DLC would be bundled within. “We are looking into it,” said Daly.

Amongst other features, it seems that the team is exploring potential touch pad commands: “We are certainly exploring ways to incorporate the touch pad into multiplayer. If we find something that works, we’ll go with it!”

This isn’t the only thing that they are exploring with in the PS4 version, as they have also been testing out the game out with a higher player count. It seems, however, that it had too much of a negative effect on the multiplayer to be bumped up. “The number of players on PS4 will be the same,” Daly wrote. “During the development of The Last of Us MP we experimented with more players and we felt it had a negative effect on the game – it made reviving less important, the pace was too fast, stealth was harder, etc.”

And as a highlight, Daly also detailed the key difference between the PS3 and PS4 versions:

  • All the maps are included on the disc
  • Visually the game looks better – higher resolution, and we’re targeting 60fps
  • Load times are much faster
  • Playing MP with the Duals\Shock 4 controller feels great

COD: Advanced Warfare – Sledgehammer On Kevin Spacey’s Role as Jonathan Irons

Actor Kevin’s Spacey’s role in Sledgehammer Games’ upcoming Call of Duty title, Advanced Warfare, was a long time in the making, according to founders Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey.

“Right from the get-go, he was number one,” Schofield recently told GameInformer. “The guy is one of the best actors of our generation.”

Spacey, star of the hit series House of Cards, lends his acting talents, both physically and vocally, to the role of Jonathan Irons, head of the fictional Private Military Corporation, Atlas.

“I think he has such a great range,” Schofield added. “We’re asking him in this case to be a guy who is really likeable from the beginning and throughout the game. Somebody who is smart, can be smart, act smart, and can act like a CEO. And the same time, in another scene there’s a bunch of grunts on the ground and he has to be able to go over to them and say, ‘Hey, let’s have a beer.’

“Us wanting [Spacey] started way before [House of Cards],” continued Schofield. “I remember the first time I heard of House of Cards, I was like, ‘That’s Spacey, maybe I won’t have a chance to get him now. Maybe he’s too busy.’ So it was a little bit of a bummer, there. And then you watch House of Cards and it’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, he’s the guy. We were right.’ So we just kept pushing for that.”

Despite it being a “long, drawn-out process,” Spacey and his producers were open to the idea and he eventually landed the gig.

“I think they both enjoy making s— happen and not playing by the rules,” Spacey said, comparing his character in Advanced Warfare to Frank Underwood in House of Cards, “which in a game is the ultimate disruptive act.”

Fans of the show might want to keep alert during season three, as a Call of Duty cameo is bound to sneak its way in.

“I exchanged an email with his [producing partner Dana Brunetti] this week, saying, ‘Hey, what would it take to have Frank Underwood playing Advanced Warfare in season three of House of Cards?'”, Condrey explained. “They’re like ‘Wow, that’s awesome.’ And we’re like, ‘That’s awesome!’ Because imagine bringing fans full circle there to see that. I mean how awesome would that be? Wouldn’t it just be the craziest thing ever just to go like, ‘Hollywood meets Silicon Valley meets Hollywood.’ If we can pull that off.”

The studio recently outed a few shots of Spacey on-set filming for Advanced Warfare:

And one from GameInformer:

House of Cards Season Three is still a ways out, but you can watch Spacey’s role in Call of Duty: Advanced warfare when it launches this November 4.

PlanetSide 2 on PlayStation 4 is 1080p, Will Be Playable at E3 2014

New PlanetSide 2 PlayStation 4 details emerge from a recent developer live stream.

According to Sony Online Entertainment’s Matt Higby, the shooter will be arriving on the console in glorious 1080p and will run at a “smooth” frame rate. Though 60 FPS wasn’t explicitly mentioned, Higby likened the PS4 version to the PC version running on Ultra settings. He also promised hands-on time at E3 2014.

Last we heard, PlanetSide 2 was headed to the PS4 some time during the first half of this year. “It’s taking time to do this right but coming along great,” SOE president John Smedly said.

June is cutting it close to that deadline, but a playable build at E3 this year might be a sign that things are on track. We’ll hopefully hear news of an exact launch date then.

Thanks, Ben Morrow, for the tip!

Rumor – Battlefield 4 Dragon’s Teeth DLC Weapons Discovered, Desert Eagle Among the Mix [Updated]

Recent reports suggest the Desert Eagle, along with a number of other infantry-focused weapons and gadgets, will be offered to Battlefield 4 players as a part of the upcoming Dragon’s Teeth expansion pack.

Symthic forum moderator “elementofprogress” was able to dig through a few new Battlefield 4 game files that are believed to have been introduced in the most recent PC client patch.

According to the findings, Dragon’s Teeth will launch with an arsenal of weapons and gadgets tailored towards urban combat, which falls in line with developer DICE’s description of the DLC: “All-out urban warfare” in “war-torn cities locked down by the Chinese army.”

Players will get their hands on two new attack bots that can be controlled remotely though a PDA. They are described as being similar to the EOD bot in Battlefield 4 vanilla, but with either a chain gun or 40mm grenade launcher mounted on top – a key difference.

The Ballistic Shield was also spotted in the files, which DICE confirmed last March would be introduced in Dragon’s Teeth as a two-handed device. However, due to its inclusion in the “weapons” category, it is believe that the shield will replace a primary weapon and must be used in conjunction with a secondary weapon.

Moving on to weapons, the newly discovered game files point to firearms like the Bulldog 762 Assault Rifle, SIG MPX PDW, McMillan CS5 Sniper Rifle, Unica 6 Magnum, and the Desert Eagle.

Our take? At first, we found it a little odd that DICE would include two all-kit weapons, as well as weapons specific to the Assault, Engineer, and Recon kits, but not the Support kit. However, that’s where the Ballistic shield might come in as a Support kit-only “weapon”. What’s also interesting is that the majority of these weapons are described as being highly capable in urban combat situations, which fits the theme of the DLC, from what we know so far.

This leaked key art for Dragon’s Teeth also depicts urban combat on the streets of a war-torn Chinese city.

What do you guys think? Is this selection of weapons and gadgets likely? How would you fancy a Desert Eagle for a sidearm?

Battlefield 4 Dragon’s Teeth is being developed at DICE LA and has no specific launch date yet.

Update 1

Images of some of the leaked DLC weapons have begun to surface, clearly lending to the legitimacy of the reports.

“Halo 5” Sighting In Latest Xbox One Trailer is Placeholder, Says 343 Industries

Halo fans shouldn’t get too excited about the latest Xbox One “Show” trailer, according to developer 343 Industries.

Keen eyes will have spotted this interesting sequence in the trailer, displaying user “Pit Bear” playing “Halo 5 – Infinity Slayer on Haven” 30 seconds ago on the Xbox One’s social feed.

Screen Shot 2014-05-08 at 6.43.36 PM

As most fans of the franchise will know, the map “Haven” belongs to 2012’s Halo 4, which would either indicate a remake in the yet-to-be-announced Halo 5, or proof that the image is simply placeholder.

According to a statement from a 343 Industries representative, it appears that things are leaning towards towards the latter.

“The Xbox of future game content. As previously stated, your next ‘Halo’ journey will begin in 2014, and we’ll have more detail to share at E3 in June.”

Again, 343i reconfirms that “your next ‘Halo’ journey will begin in 2014” with more to be shared at E3 2014.

While we still don’t have official confirmation of Halo 5, the studio sure is keen on teasing what’s next for franchise. Earlier, members of 343i were spotted playing a Halo game on Xbox One in an internal tournament.

We know it’s killing you, but hang tight ’til E3!

First revealed during E3 2013, Insomniac games and Microsoft today unveiled the very first gameplay for the Xbox One-exclusive, Sunset Overdrive.

The game will indeed feature some sort of multiplayer, though nothing has really been confirmed as to how it will play, other than that it won’t have co-op for the campaign. The official Sunset Overdrive twitter did mention that there would be some “unique things” in the multiplayer, however.

Insomniac also detailed what’s included in the “Day One” edition of the game. Check out the details here:

Elder Scrolls Online To Be Delayed For Six Months On Consoles

Bad news for eager fans awaiting to explore the vast open world of Tamriel on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The Elder Scrolls Online has been delayed for six months following “unique problems specific to those platforms,” publisher Bethesda announced today.

In a statement released by the company, they write that “We continue to work on the console versions of ESO, and game development has been progressing steadily, but we are still working to solve a series of unique problems specific to those platforms.”

“Integrating our systems with each console manufacturer’s networks — which are both different from the PC/Mac system as well as different from each other—has been a challenging process,” the studio continues. “It has become clear that our planned June release of the console versions isn’t going to be possible.  Though we have made great progress, we have concluded that we’ll need about six months to ensure we deliver the experience our fans expect and deserve.”

However, all is not lost for those who have access to a PC version of the game and the newest consoles, as Bethesda has struck a deal with Sony and Microsoft to offer you a bit of hope in your quest to play.

“Via a special offer, anyone who purchases and plays the PC/Mac version of The Elder Scrolls Online by the end of June will have the opportunity to transfer their character(s) to either console version when they are released,” the company announced.

“The offer will allow you to begin playing immediately on the PC/Mac, and then add the PS4 or Xbox One version and transfer the character(s) you have created and developed. And, you don’t have to pay full price for the game twice. For $20, eligible PC and Mac players will have the option to add a full, digital version of ESO on either the PS4 or the Xbox One with your character transfer(s), and another 30 days of included game time.”

How do you feel about the delay? Are you happy that Bethesda is looking for quality?

Epic Games Unveils Unreal Tournament, Completely Free and Community-Driven FPS

Epic Games has announced that the studio is beginning development on a brand new Unreal Tournament game for PC, Mac, and Linux that will be completely free and driven by its community members.

Epic’s Paul Meegan teased the news last week which now fully comes to light. The studio hopes to crowd source the project that will be co-developed by users with an Unreal Engine 4 subscription.

In the transparent development process, Unreal fans will be able to give away or sell their mods on an online marketplace, from which Unreal will take a cut that will contribute towards the cost of development.

The studio stresses that the new Unreal Tournament will be completely free, not “free-to-play” with micro-transactions. Stay tuned for more details!

Epic has published the full details on the studio’s official blog:

HERE’S THE PLAN

  • We’ve created a small team of UT veterans that are beginning work on the project starting today.
  • From the very first line of code, the very first art created and design decision made, development will happen in the open, as a collaboration between Epic, UT fans and UE4 developers. We’ll be using forums for discussion, and Twitch streams for regular updates.
  • If you are a fan and you want to participate, create a free account and join the forum discussion.
  • All code and content will be available live to UE4 developers on GitHub.
  • The game will be true to its roots as a competitive FPS.
  • Development will be focused on Windows, Mac and Linux.

SO WHAT’S THE CATCH?

  • It will take many months until the game is playable by gamers. This is real development from scratch.
  • When the game is playable, it will be free. Not free to play, just free.
  • We’ll eventually create a marketplace where developers, modders, artists and gamers can give away, buy and sell mods and content. Earnings from the marketplace will be split between the mod/content developer, and Epic.  That’s how we plan to pay for the game.

WANT TO GET INVOLVED?

  • Want more detail on the project? Read our wiki.
  • Want to participate & give feedback? Check out the forums, and sign up for a free account here to join Unreal Engine 4 community.
  • Just interested in getting updates? Subscribe to our newsletter here at the bottom right of our page.
  • In case you want to check out the classic Unreal Tournament games, they will be on sale here starting tomorrow, for 50% off!

DICE Officially Launches New BF4 Community Test Environment, Not Accepting New Users

Yesterday we reported the rumor, and now it looks like things are panning out. Developer DICE has officially launched what they are calling a “Community Test Environment platform” for Battlefield 4 users on the PC, but it’s not accepting any new users to join just yet.

In a quick F.A.Q,. DICE explains the purpose of the new Premium-exclusive initiative to improve Battlefield 4 even more.

What Is The Community Test Environment?

The Community Test Environment (CTE) is a PREMIUM access Battlefield 4 environment where involved players can help DICE test new features, changed/improved content and test new experiments that aren’t yet (and may never be) ready for public release.

Why Do We Have The CTE?

We want to open our development process to our players, get feedback earlier and keep improving the Battlefield experience. The earlier we can get feedback and full 64 player servers testing our latest features – the better off we’re going be.

How Does It Work?

With regular intervals a new CTE-initiative will be posted by our developers as a news-item. Usually this initiative controls which servers are up and running, and what game-modes are available to play at any given time. Since we need to simulate the retail environment as much as possible and need telemetry from full servers – the number of servers will be limited. We will use the CTE Forums to gather feedback and suggestions during an active initiative – posting follow ups and comments to design & feature decisions as we go.

Update

DICE has indicated in a new blog posting that, though only Battlefield Premium members will be able to opt-in to the CTE, the studio has “plans to expand to a larger player base in the future after we test this new program.”

For now, here’s how Premium members can opt-on:

  • Visit http://cte.battlelog.com/bf4/communitytest/
  • Read and accept the Terms of Service and Agreement
  • Log into Origin with your existing account username and password (your account must have Premium activated in order to proceed)
  • Start Origin and download the new Battlefield 4 CTE game client that now should be visible
  • Install the Battlelog browser plugin
  • Get familiar with the guidelines by visiting the Forums on http://cte.battlelog.com/bf4/forum/

Keep your sights on MP1st for more updates!

Dying Light Delayed To February 2015

The First-Person Zombie-survival co-op game that turned heads last year during its announcement has been delayed to February 2015, says developer Techland.

In an open letter to fans, Techland explains that “When we started the development of Dying Light, we were committed to innovation. We wanted to give you a freedom of movement unprecedented in open world games. After many improvements and months of hard work, we have now come so close to realizing our initial vision we feel we cannot stop before it is ready.”

Techland goes on to say that “We believe the Natural Movement element of our game will change what you expect from the genre, and we don’t want to sacrifice any of its potential by releasing too early. This quality-focused thinking underlines all our development choices and we hope you share our belief that the gameplay must always come first.

“The new date ensures that we can fully realize our vision of an innovative open world game. We won’t need to make compromises or trade-offs on any of the five platforms we’re working on. For you, it means an outstanding, original game that makes the wait more than worthwhile.”

Dying Light will offer four-player online co-op along with split-screen co-op, as well as additional pre-order bonus multiplayer modes that allow players to invade each others’ worlds as a zombie when it launches February, 2015.

More Riddles Point to Mortal Kombat 10 Reveal in June, Will Be Featured At This Year’s EVO?

Over the past few days, Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon was seen counting down to a mysterious June 2 announcement, which we presume is related to either a new Mortal Kombat or Injustice fighting game.

Boons most recent riddle is especially noteworthy for a few reasons.

As you guessed it, it’s the alphabet, which contains 26 letters. There are, of course, 26 days left until June 2 as of this writing. But there’s more. Because the alphabet is spelled out backwards, we can surmise that Boon intends for us to flip the number 26 around to 62, or 6/2 – June 2nd. I think we can pretty much agree that an announcement on June 2 is confirmed at this point. But still, what is it?

Interestingly, using the capitalized letters “UTSRONMLKJIECBA,” we were able to come up with the following words; June, Injustice, and Mortal Kombat Ten. Again, this points to an inevitable announcement from NetherRealm Studios regarding either or both titles.

Furthermore, Boon also mentioned very specific professional fighting gamers and personalities that are widely known in the Mortal Kombat and Injustice: Gods Among Us tournament scene. He stated that he’s looking forward to following them at this year’s EVO tournament, which takes place July 11-July 13. He jokingly ended the tweet “#BanTheTesters.”

If anything, it might indicate that the upcoming titles to be announced on June 2 will also be showcased at this year’s EVO tournament.

What do you guys think?

Rumor – DICE to Launch New Battlefield 4 “Community Test Environment” For PC Players Tomorrow

A few weeks ago we reported that DICE released new “higher-performance servers” for Battlefield 4 in an effort to solve the “rubber-banding” issues plaguing the game. Tomorrow it appears that DICE is planning to expand their efforts by launching a new “Community Test Environment,” according to Escapist Magazine.

The Community Test Environment will be used as a secondary platform for PC players to give feedback on “netcode,” says Escapist. In an email shown to them by an anonymous source, DICE explains that “Among the first things we will work on is the ‘Netcode,’ which is what the player experiences with the game world including player-to-player interactions like damage registration. This involves tweaking to the ‘tickrate’ servers and networking in general.”

The Community Test Environment is reported to be exclusive to Premium PC Players, with no mention of a console version, and must be downloaded to use. It allegedly mirrors functions from that of the Battlelog for ease of use.

The Community Test Environment is rumored to launch tomorrow, May 8th.

We learned earlier that DICE was “investigating” test servers last year in November, but we’ve to officially learn what has come of it.

In a similar vein, the studio also appears to be in the midst of testing for the tablet version of the Battlelog and is looking participants to help out. You can learn more and sign up by visiting this link.

Keep your sights on MP1st for updates.
