DICE Producer Offers Charity Stream DDOSers Tour of Haitian Orphanage In Response to Attacks

DICE Producer Daniel “zh1nt0” Matros is offering DDOSers of a charity stream meant to help raise money for orphaned children in Haiti a tour of the orphanage in response to their attacks.

Earlier today, members of teamavolition.com reportedly disrupted a live charity stream hosted by Matros through a distributed denial-of-service attack, leading Matros and those donating to the cause to fall short of their goal.

“Your decision to DDOS the stream tonight, not only hindered us in achieving our target but also took money away from the orphaned children we are supporting,” Matros writes in a recent Facebook update. “With the target we wanted to reach, we wanted to pay for these kids college fees, lunch money, school uniforms, books and whatever interest they want to pursue. We’re all entitled to hopes, dreams but also a safe and secure environment to grow up in.”

He wrote on Twitter earlier, “I hope you who ddosd charitystream watch the documentary a few times and realize that you just robbed 36 kids of a better future.”

Despite the attacks, Matros is “…not mad at all.” He says, “I know that we will reach the target and I have already set aside funds from my own salary at DICE to pay for any extra targets we don’t reach such as this one.”

In fact, he is even offering those involved a tour of the orphanage, in which the funds earned through the charity stream are going towards, saying, “I will personally drive you around and show you how these kids are living right now.”

He invites those involved “…to hop on the 6:30 American Airlines flight from Miami to Port au Prince on the 28th of June to come with us and see for yourself how we are helping these kids.”

You can catch the full documentary of Daniel Matros’ endeavours below.

Report – PlayStation 4 ‘Has 50 Per Cent More Raw Power Than The GPU In The Xbox One’

According to recent reports, Sony’s PlayStation 4 has 50% more graphical power than Microsoft’s Xbox One, based on current specs.

Comparisons made by Eurogamer reveal the differences between both company’s next-generation hardware.

“We know that both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are based on Radeon GCN architecture and we also know that each compute unit is capable of 64 operations per clock,” writes the author.

“So, again through a process of extrapolation from the drip-feed of hard facts, the make-up of the One’s GPU is confirmed – 12 compute units each capable of 64 ops/clock gives us the 768 total revealed by Microsoft and thus, by extension, the 1.2 teraflop graphics core.

“So that’s another tick on the Durango leaked spec that has been transposed across to the final Xbox One architecture and the proof we need that PlayStation 4’s 18 CU graphics core has 50 per cent more raw power than the GPU in the new Microsoft console.”

The author also believes the PlayStation 4’s architecture to be more straight forward.

Just remember, you can watch TV on the Xbox One like nobody’s business.

Rainbow 6: Patriots – Where Did You Go?

What you are about to read are actual stories of the long-awaited Tom Clancy title, Rainbow 6: Patriots. While all the footage that has been given appears to be from an official source, none of what you are about the read and watch has been proven to be real or even, for that matter, indicates that this game still exists. Viewer discretion is advised.

Announced back in early November of 2011, Ubisoft Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6: Patriots had fans roaring in applause as many were led to believe that the series would be returning back to its roots, giving players a deep story-line all while delivering superb gameplay. A title that did release this generation that many found favorable was Rainbow Six: Vegas. While the sequel was rather lack-luster, the title did offer one of the best competitive multiplayer experiences out there, one that many have foreseen in the concept gameplay for Patriots.

[youtube id=”8M-ucVWHmYk” width=”618″ height=”378″]

Looks impressive doesn’t it? Another trailer released just a month after this one.

[youtube id=”pMz8PKe5RFU” width=”618″ height=”378″]

Both videos tell us that the game will be taking place in New York, a highly requested location that was rumored to be the setting for the sequel to Vegas 1. Either way, these videos are just a little over two years old now with nothing new whatsoever from Ubisoft. So, what exactly happened with to R6: Patriots? Many suspect it’s absence from last year’s E3 and other gaming events such as GDC to be a sign of cancellation, seeing that the company has been focusing on other Tom Clancy titles like Ghost Recon Future Soldier and Splinter Cell Blacklist. However, given that Ubisoft did announce that the title would be available on current-gen system it’s very possible that the title has now been moved over to next-gen consoles.

The Next-Gen Leap

We reported last year that Ubisoft may have jumped console ships and moved the title over to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Given that none of these consoles, at the time, were revealed, we may indeed see this rumor become true by E3 2013. We also reported a few weeks ago that the team in Toronto had finished with the Multiplayer missions. So the title is definitely not dead.

Perhaps, it was just cancelled?

While Gamestop is no clear indication of cancellation, it was reported that they removed it from their database entirely as the company hasn’t received any word from Ubisoft about the release of it. Is it a bad thing to be excited for a game that will probably not live up to my expectations? Yeah. But, you know what? It’s been a while since we’ve gotten any exciting first person shooters from Ubisoft and Patriots looks to fill that void.

It’ll be interesting to see what Ubisoft brings to this year’s E3. With huge titles like Watch_Dogs and Assassin’s Creed 4 already announced, perhaps the re-announcing of Patriots would be in order.

What do you guys think?

EA Announces Need for Speed Rivals, Hopes to ‘Eliminate The Line Between Single Player and Multiplayer’

Today, EA announced the next generation of Need for Speed with Need for Speed Rivals, an action/racing game created by an inspired new development team, Ghost Games, in association with Criterion Games, and built on the powerful Frostbite 3 engine.

“Need for Speed Rivals captures the adrenaline and intensity of the street’s ultimate rivalry between cops and racers in a stunning open road environment,” reads the release. It will be available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC by November 19, 2013, and will also be available on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 later this year.

Check out the first teaser:

[youtube id=”Pigx5L-Kz2w” width=”618″ height=”378″]

Players will be able to play as either cop or racer where each side will have their own set of high stakes challenges, rewards, and consequences. Your goal is to become infamous for taking risks and capturing your most intense escapes on video for everyone to see.

You’ll earn “Speed Points” by avoiding cops which can be spent towards unlocking new cars and items and will be able to build up infamy by becoming a more valuable target to the cops, but will risk losing it all if busted.

Working with others as a team of cops in pursuit of racers, you’ll be able to earn prominence and rise up in the ranks of the Police Force with every bust. A higher ranks means new police-only cars and more powerful pursuit tech.

Need for Speed Rivals also marks a first for the series: Ghost Games announced that the Ferarri will be making its long-awaited return for the first time in seven years. That includes the F12berlinetta.

A brand new online feature called AllDrive will allow gamers to seamlessly transition from playing alone to with friends. The team hopes to eliminate the line between single player and multiplayer with this tech, creating a world that friends can enter on the fly and where no two events will ever be the same.

Some of the game’s key features include:

  • Next-Gen Racing – Redview County is brought to life with stunning, next-generation detail and weather effects that force drivers to master the elements, as well as the competition.
  • Need for Speed Network Powered by Autolog – Gamers can compare stats and challenge their friends anytime, anywhere and then easily share their accomplishments with both friends and rivals.
  • Personalization – Drivers customize their ride with fresh paintjobs, custom license plates, liveries, decals, rims, and performance upgrades.
  • Pursuit and Evasion Tech – Street racing explodes with 11 upgradeable gadgets including turbo boosts, jammers and EMPs for racers, and shockwaves, roadblocks and helicopters for cops.

Gamers can pre-order Need for Speed Rivals now at participating retailers for the Need for Speed Rivals Ultimate Cop Pack at no additional cost. It offers “powerful collection of items including the Nissan GT-R Black Edition cop car, advanced pursuit technology, and a custom livery.”

Xbox One and PS4 are “…a Generation Ahead of the Highest End PC on the Market,” says EA CTO

While the dust is finally settling on the Xbox One reveal (and Call of Duty dog gaining plenty of steam), a lot has been made of the console’s raw specs not meeting or exceeding today’s high-end PC’s.

Although the Xbox One may not have the fastest processor clock speed or RAM, that didn’t stop EA’s Chief Technical Officer Rajat Taneja from heaping praise on the “raw horsepower” of the next-gen consoles.

According to Taneja, internal audio and video benchmarks of next-gen consoles revealed performance that is “…8-10 times superior to the current gen [consoles].” Furthermore, Taneja adds that the architecture of the SoC’s on the next-gen consoles “…are a generation ahead of the highest end PC on the market.”

If you’d like to see a closer examination of the spec sheets and what they mean for both the PS4 and Xbox One, AnandTech has a nice breakdown for you to view.

After seeing both the PS4 and Xbox One reveals, do you think the games appear to be a full generation ahead of high-end PC games?

Thanks, Polygon

Update: Article changed to show that the first comparison pertained to consoles with the second pertaining to PC.

Report – Slant Six Was Working On Medal of Honor For The PS Vita

Remember those rumors that Medal of Honor: Warfighter was going to be released for the PlayStation Vita? While that didn’t quite end up working out, it seems that it was once on the table, according to some concept art that Slant Six did for for the franchise.

Concept_59768_screen

As seen on Alex Carigi’s work page (now removed).

The artist worked over at Slant Six from 2006 to 2009, so it’s unclear whether the game is still in development, though given Slant Six’s, past it may be a good thing.

While the Medal of Honor series is currently being put on hold by EA, they did mention it was still part of their key considerations for the future.

COD: Ghosts Multiplayer – Underwater Gameplay a Possibility, No 64-Player Battles, SmartGlass Integration?

Activision CEO wants Call of Duty: Ghosts‘ multiplayer to stick to a winning formula, but the team hasn’t completely left out ideas like being able to battle underwater or using peripheral devices to add functionality.

New gameplay mechanics like vaulting, sliding, and leaning are being introduced in Ghosts, but what is Infinity Ward doing to innovate the multiplayer even further? More dynamic battlefields and player customization are two improvements the studio has detailed so far.

Speaking to GI, Eric Hirshberg revealed that Ghosts’ single player campaign will feature a level that takes place entirely underwater. “If you look at the trailer, there’s an entire level that takes place underwater,” he said. “We’ve had underwater scenes before where you scuba dive from here to there, but this is a whole new thing with underwater physics and underwater gameplay and underwater weapons.”

When asked if the team would be bringing any underwater gameplay to the multiplayer, Hirshberg teased, “hmmmm… We’ll have to wait and see.”

He was also asked if the multiplayer player-count would increase to numbers like 64 or 100, what with the power of next-generation hardware at the studio’s fingertips. According to Hirshberg’s response, it looks like Infinity Ward won’t be straying too far from the winning Call of Duty multiplayer formula already put in place. “I think Call of Duty is the best multiplayer game in the world,” he said. “It’s hard to argue with the number of people that play it every day and every month. We have a winning formula. We always innovate within that. We always find new ways to keep it fresh and new.”

Recent Call of Duty titles have only featured 12-player to 18-player (Ground War) battles.

Peripherals like Xbox’s SmarGlass may also become and integral part of Ghosts’ multiplayer experience. Hirsberg said, “you’re going to see us take [the added functionality] to a whole new level. A seamless second screen experience will be integral to next gen.”

Call of Duty: Ghosts launches on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on November 5. The game is also coming to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Call of Duty: Ghosts – Infinity Ward Confirms Raven Software and Neversoft’s Involvement

Infinity Ward has confirmed Raven Software and Neversoft’s involvement with the recently unveiled Call of Duty: Ghosts.

On Twitter, the studio wrote, “now that our reveal is live, we wanted to give a special thanks to @RavenSoftware & @Neversoft for their support in developing #CODGhosts”

Screen Shot 2013-05-22 at 12.48.27 PM

Raven Software has acted as a support role during the last few entries in the Call of Duty series, mainly helping with downloadable content and user interfaces. We reported back in June 2012 that Neversoft was said to be working on an unannounced Call of Duty project. It seems that they may have been gearing up for Ghosts all along.

Meanwhile, Sledgehammer Games, who played a large role in Modern Warfare 3’s development back in 2011, is reportedly working on an entirely different Call of Duty project.

Make sure to catch Call of Duty: Ghosts’ first gameplay reveal, including behind the scenes footage and screens, right here!

Call of Duty: Ghosts hits the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC this November 5.

Xbox Live Gold Memberships Can Be Used For Xbox One and Xbox 360

In a string of unfavorable reports against Microsoft’s Xbox One post-reveal, a bit of good news comes from the company’s corporate vice president.

According to Phil Harrison, who recently spoke to Polygon, the Xbox Live Gold membership you carry today will apply to both the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One.

“If you have an Xbox Gold membership today for 360 and you buy an Xbox One, your membership applies to both systems,” Harrison said. “You don’t have to get another subscription.”

“Anybody who has usage privilege on that machine can use it,” meaning multiple members of a household will be able to share a single account.

Microsoft’s Ben Kilgore added that though memberships can be shared, individual users will have access to their own friends lists and other personalizations.

He said, “we want to make sure that you and your son both have your own account. We want you log in to get your stuff, and when he logs in to get his stuff. On that console, if you have Gold, he can use Gold as well.”

On the topic of friends, Kilgore mentioned that it is still “something that’s under development right now.” Latest rumors suggested that the Xbox One would adopt a one-way relationship system, à la Twitter or Google+, but Microsoft is still working to determine “who your true two-way relationship friends are.”

Make sure to catch some of the key takeaways from Microsoft’s big unveiling of the Xbox One right here. You can also vote to determine who had the better unveiling between Microsoft and Sony right here.

Battlefield 4 17-Minute Demo Was “Not The Final Game In Any Way”

According to Battlefield developers DICE, there’s much more to Battlefield 4 that what we’ve seen so far.

DICE announced the game back in March with a stunning 17-minute long single player demo called “Fishing in Baku.” It introduced the game’s characters, setting, a few new gameplay elements, and also showed off the beauty and power of the brand new Frostbite 3 engine.

Frankly, other than graphical and visual quality, the demo didn’t really show gamers exactly why Battlefield 4 is better than 2011’s Battlefield 3. While still impressive, many gamers criticized the demo for only really showing a “Battlefield 3.5,” rather than a Battlefield 4.

But, according to Battlefield Executive Producer Patrick Bach, you haven’t seen it all just yet. In fact, he claims the demo was “not the final game in any way.”

“Well, first of all, this 17 minutes, it’s not the final game in any way,” Bach recently told FTW. “There’s a lot of things that are not in, that we haven’t shown anyone. There will be a lot of added layers to the experience that you see in these 17 minutes, definitely.”

Pretty cool. Looks like we can expect a “lot of added layers” when we catch the game next time. Speaking of next time, DICE has confirmed that Battlefield 4 will be making its multiplayer debut on June 10 during EA’s E3 2013 press conference.

Also, feel free to re-watch the 17-minute Battlefield 4 demo, “Fishing in Baku,” below:

Crytek’s CryEngine 3 “Already Primed For Xbox One”

Crytek is ready to bring the power of the CryEngine 3 over to the recently unveiled Xbox One.

The studio recently announced that their technology is “already primed for Xbox One,” and that they are “equipped to start creating software for the system now.”

Recently, Crytek became an officially licensed middleware and tools provider for the Xbox One. They will be supporting the platform and equipping CryEngine 3 licensees with the “advanced toolset required to achieve their own games for the system.”

“We offered assurances over two years ago that CryEngine 3 was ready for the next generation of consoles, and time has revealed that promise to be true,” said Carl Jones. “As developers begin to create new games for Xbox One, our technology and unparalleled support will ensure CryEngine 3 users remain at the forefront of the industry now and well into the future.”

Crysis 3 launched last February on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. We’ll most likely hear about upcoming projects from Crytek during this year’s E3.
