Battlefield 4 – Team Play, Classes, and Field Upgrades Detailed

In Battlefield 4 multiplayer, you play a specific role as a part of a team and if you can perform well together, you are rewarded.

Lead Multiplayer Designer Thomas “Tompen” Andersson writes in the latest Battlefield blog update, “The way we’re going about it in Battlefield 4 is to highly encourage team play – but never force it. We want to promote team play by creating great gameplay mechanics such as Field Upgrades, Commander Mode, and a new range of gadgets specifically designed to expand co-operation in the field.”

Like Battlefield 4, four kits – or classes – will be returning to the multiplayer: The Engineer, Recon, Support, and Assault. However, Andersson adds that “while keeping these core kits intact, we are increasing the ability for players to more strongly specialize their combat role while also increasing flexibility and catering to different play styles.”

[youtube id=”3nJY7n8KaOY” width=”618″ height=”378″]

As for being rewarded for playing as a team, Andersson explained that the studio has “this new concept called Field Upgrades.” He said that, “if you’re a long term fan that played Battlefield 2142, you will already have an idea what these are, but we have tweaked them for Battlefield 4. In short, Field Upgrades are chained boosts that can affect a number of gameplay mechanics for your player. Similar to the specializations in Battlefield 3, these can for example provide you with faster sprint speed, stronger personal armor, or expanded ammo capacity.”

“The idea behind Field Upgrades is to give individual rewards for squad based team play performance. You earn them through squad scoring such as squad healing, completing objectives with your squad members, squad resupplies, squad repairs, and other squad actions. Instead of one single specialization like in Battlefield 3, you can now pick from different upgrades paths, each containing four specializations. Keep the squad alive, and you will move through the accumulative upgrade path. But watch out! If your entire squad is eliminated, you will lose some of your progress.”

According to Andersson, we’ll learn more about how the upgrade paths work next week, where we’ll also get a peek at some brand new specializations that the team is adding to Battlefield 4 multiplayer.

So, we want to ask you, what class are you most looking forward to playing in Battlefield 4? Or, do you like to mix it up often?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Apocalypse DLC Hits August 27, “Stadium” and “Courtyard” Return

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s fourth and final DLC is hitting the Xbox 360 this August 27, a month later on the PlayStation 3 and PC.

As usual the downloadable content will be available for all Black Ops 2 Season Pass owners at no extra cost. Otherwise, expect a similar price of $14.99.

Once again, players will get their hands on four new multiplayer maps, two of which are remakes of some of our favorite Black Ops and World at War maps, as well as the most epic Zombies experience yet. Check it out, straight from the press release!

Multiplayer Maps

Pod

A failed utopian community from the 70’s has left stacks of dilapidated residential pods nestled into an abandoned cliff side in Taiwan. Its residents long gone, the modernist compound now hosts frenetic combat as players must run atop the pods, as well as navigate their multi-tiered interiors for a strategic edge.

Frost

Fresh snow meets explosive gunpowder in this snow-capped European city, where the bridge over a frozen canal separates it into two sides, requiring players to employ multi-level traversal strategies to outsmart and ultimately outshoot their enemies.

Takeoff

Fans of Stadium from the original Call of Duty: Black Ops First Strike DLC will find themselves at home on Takeoff. Marooned in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, this remote launch site is all about close-quarters combat, combining tight corners with open spaces for intense encounters.

Dig

An adaptation of the fan-favorite Courtyard from Call of Duty: World at War, where two archeological dig sites in Afghanistan become the perfect playground for combatants eager for hectic, unceasing confrontations. Treyarch, has retained the spirit of Courtyard with two major chokepoints, a wide open layout and raised platforms, but has provided fans with a fresh take on the multitude of paths.

Zombies

Origins

In addition to the four maps, Apocalypse also reveals Origins, the most horrifying and imaginative Zombies experience to date. Players will be deployed to Dieselpunk-stylized World War I-era France where they will encounter the return of the four original heroes from the very first Zombies map, Tank, Nikolai, Takeo, and Rictofen, as well as hordes of zombies that have overrun trenches and fields, as well as the ruins of a mysterious and ancient location.

Unleashed after the Germans unearthed the mysterious “Element 115,” this next chapter in the Zombies legacy will explore the saga’s origins as players reunite with an unlikely band of soldiers that come together to defeat the greatest evil the world has ever seen, using a period-specific arsenal that includes Wonder Weapons that harness supernatural powers, a diesel-drone and Mark IV tank, as well a new perk machine and power-ups – and that’s just the start. Players will need all the help they can get to succeed in defeating the undead, as well as evading an unprecedented 1,000-foot tall robot abomination. In this stylized undead adventure, they’ll need every advantage if they have any hope of surviving one of Treyarch’s deepest Zombies experiences to date.

A new adventure which takes place in “a Dieselpunk-themed First World War” and stars the original Zombies heroes. Treyarch has been teasing this one for a few days now, but they managed to keep two secrets until today: longtime Zombies fans Avenged Sevenfold, who have supplied music for COD games in the past, have contributed a new song, “Shepherd of Fire,” to the opening cinema of Origins; that will be on their new album, Hail to the King, as well. Also, one of my favorite comic artists, Alex Ross, has created some original art for Origins as well.

What do you guys think? Is Treyarch ending Black Ops 2’s season of content with a bang?

Black Ops 2 – Teaser Image of New “Origins” Map Pack, Trailer Incoming?

Earlier today, Treyarch Studio Design Director, David “Vahn” Vonderhaar tweeted out somewhat of a teaser image of what seems to be the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Map Pack 4 trailer.

Yesterday, Treyarch posted a teaser trailer called “Origins” which showcased some familiar faces from World at War Zombies. You can catch it right here, if you missed it. Whether this map pack will be an all Zombies map pack remains to be seen, but it wouldn’t be new to Zombies fans as Treyarch did release an all Zombies Map Pack for the original Black Ops.

If this does turn out to be an all Zombies Map Pack, will those of you who purchased the Season Pass be disappointed to see no MP Maps? Let us know in the comments below.

We will have more information on the new Map Pack as well as the Map Pack 4 trailer when it is released, hopefully soon.

Call of Duty: Ghosts – Infinity Ward Teases Create-A-Class

Developers Infinity Ward are teasing Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer ahead of it’s official unveiling this August 14.

Via Twitter, IW community manager Tina Palacios Tweeted this image (below) teasing Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer create-a-class.

Check it out and let us know what you think. Is Pick-10 returning? What perks can you make out? Stay tuned to MP1st on August 14 to learn all about Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer!

BRHeeYiCAAA6uZW

If we were to guess a few, bottom right is most likely Scavenger, middle right seems to be Flak Jacket, but we can’t quite make out the top right perk. Might the top left perk allow players to reload while running? What about bottom left? UAV Jammer?

The top middle perk could be some sort of immunity to knife attacks (or Commando?), while bottom middle could be something related to weapon attachments. Any thoughts or wishes?

Also, do you want Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s Pick-10 create-a-class system to return, or are you hoping for something brand new?

A Closer Look at the Xbox One Hardware – Controller, Play and Charge Kit, and Headset

Want a closer look at some of the Xbox One’s hardware?

In a series of new promotional videos, Microsoft details the Xbox One controller, Play and Charge Kit, as well as the Headset, giving you a better feel for some of the gear you’ll be getting your hands on when the console launches this November.

The headset, sold separately, comes with a pretty cool LED indicator letting you know the controller’s battery status, or if your mic is muted or not. Remember, if you’d don’t feel like dishing out the extra cash for the headset, the Xbox One will still support gaming headsets like Turtle Beaches and Microsoft is also offering an adaptor for default Xbox 360 headsets.

Check out the Xbox One controller, Play and Charge Kit, and Headset in these videos below.

Battlefield 4 – Streaming Improvements Allow More Weapons and Vehicles, Customizable Faction Settings

Developers DICE are building a better Battlefield experience than ever before with Battlefield 4. That means more vehicles, more weapons, and more customization, among many other things.

Speaking to Battlefield.no, DICE executive producer Patrick Bach talked about some of the new features making it into Battlefield 4 when it releases on multiple platforms this October 29.

“There is a lot of stuff, really,” Bach mentioned. But what caught our attention was how DICE is now able to include more weapons and vehicles, thanks to some streaming improvements. “We have tried to look at the game from all angles. We have replaced streaming systems so we can give you more weapons, more vehicles.”

Another feature that DICE has been somewhat tight-lipped about until now is the ability to customize factions on the Battlefield. “One feature we have not talked about is ‘any army on any side on any map,’ which gives you the possibility to choose what factions start at what side, and that’s on any map as well,” he said. “So that will be interesting and might create some cool results. It’s a feature we haven’t discussed openly, but I think it’s something interesting.”

As you may already know, Battlefield 4 will allow you to play as either American, Russian, or Chinese factions, who will each introduce their own unique weapons and vehicles to the game’s multiplayer.

Update

Bach also spoke about customizable UI and HUD elements on the PC version of Battlefield 4, saying, “on PC, you will get custom UI and HUD, and you can scale those so you can customize more to your liking.”

Despite having one of “the best netcodes on the market,” according to Bach, players will also be able to customize their experience when it comes to latency or “lag.” Everyone’s internet situation is different, so DICE is implementing an option that will allow players to compensate for a better or slower internet connection. “We will of course tweak this so you less often will experience these kinds of [latency] problems,” he confirmed. “We have put a slider into the game which compensates for such events, and if you have a very good connection, you might want to turn that down and get a cleaner netcode.

Lastly, Bach confirmed that there will be no day and night cycles in Battlefield 4 but that patching and updating will be a lot faster and more regular thanks to the brand new Frostbite 3 engine.

If you missed it, be sure to check out some of the latest Battlefield 4 multiplayer gameplay, showing off the game’s new spectator mode running at Ultra settings.

Thanks, James, for the tip.

Xbox One Game DVR, OneGuide, SmartMatch and Skype Restricted to Xbox Live Gold Users

According to recent reports, the Xbox One’s Game DVR, which war recently reported to record up to 5 minutes of 720p gameplay footage at 30 FPS, will be restricted to those with an Xbox Live Gold account.

Microsoft confirmed the news to One Hit Pixel, which appeared earlier on the official Xbox website which listed the Game DVR, OneGuide, SmartMatch and Skype as features available only to Xbox Live Gold Members.

Screen Shot 2013-08-07 at 11.58.48 AM

A Microsoft representative wrote, “I can confirm that Game DVR features will be available to Xbox Live Gold members only.”

We take it most Xbox One users will have an Xbox Live Gold subscription regardless, but there are the few who may still miss out.

Black Ops 2 Zombies Origins Teaser

Treyarch has released a brand new Zombies teaser for what we presume is a part of – or perhaps the entirety of – upcoming downloadable content for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, though it does mention it explicitly.

Either way, it looks like Treyarch is gearing up for yet another major Zombies release, titled “Origins”. Earlier, the studio teased some letters, a new Zombies weapon blueprint, and a cryptic image (which turns out to be the title screen of the new trailer), all leading up to the release of today’s teaser trailer. Check it out below.

Every story has a beginning… and an end…

[youtube id=”9fXBCQ61He8″ width=”618″ height=”378″]

We’re pretty sure the four characters showcased near the end are the original cast of the first few Zombies maps, though their character models – especially faces – look heavily updated, perhaps to make them appear younger. We’re also pretty sure we saw a giant robot.

Screen Shot 2013-08-07 at 10.04.33 AM

Screen Shot 2013-08-07 at 10.22.00 AM

The setting also has us a tad puzzled. If you check out the screen captures below, it appears as if we’re seeing all previous maps, starting from the last map pack in Call of Duty: Black Ops back all the way through to the first Call of Duty: World at War Zombies map. Of course, the setting with the giant robot appears completely new.

In order of newest to oldest, as it appears in order below, the locations are: Moon, Shangri-La, Ascension, Kino Der Toten, Der Riese, Shi No Numa, Verrückt and Nacht Der Untoten.

Lastly, and perhaps most interestingly, a number of images are flashed throughout the video, only one frame in length each, which YouTuber MrRoflWaffles was luckily able to piece together. You can check out the screen below and catch his video here.

Treyarch has teased yet another image. We see a zombie head, a blimp, and is that the giant robot in the background?

New Black Ops 2 Teaser Suggests Origin Story Zombie DLC

When it comes to DLC, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 developers are definitely planning something big surrounding the series’ popular mini-game (which isn’t really so “mini” any more), Zombies.

In a series of teaser images posted last week on their Facebook page, Treyarch teased four tattered old letters written by, or connected to, the original cast members of the first few Zombies levels, beginning back in Call of Duty: World at War. Later, the studio published a set of blueprints of what looks like a brand new Zombies DLC weapon, the Mauser (Prototype CXS). So far, both hints suggest that whatever Zombies DLC the team has planned will most likely go back in time, rather than the future.

Supporting our guess even further, Treyarch teased a brand new Vine video today flashing a bunch of short clips of what is most likely the new Zombies map. The caption reads, “Every story has a beginning…”

You can check out the 6-second video right here.

Update 1

Upon closer inspection, it seems like each clip could be of a previous Zombies map. You can easily make out the maps Ascension and Shangri La, for example.

If that doesn’t tell us anything, we’re not sure what does. We think it’s pretty clear that Treyarch wants to visit the origins of the Zombies story with DLC 4.

What do you guys think? Would that make for some pretty rad Zombies DLC? Be sure to keep your sights on MP1st for any new on upcoming Black Ops 2 DLC.

Update 2

Just recently, Treyarch Tweeted this strange image and confirmed that we will learn more tomorrow about whatever it is the studio has in the works.

New Borderlands 2 Hotfix Addresses Bugged Dropped Rates For Mini Bosses, Available Now

A new hotfix is now available for Borderlands 2 on the PC, Mac, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platform that addresses a few issues and, most importantly, fixes a bug causing certain mini-bosses to not drop their designated loot.

For the full notes of the latest hotfix, check them out below:

August 6 Hotfix Notes

  • Further corrected the alignment of holographic sights on pistols.
  • Summoning Deathtrap with “Sharing is Caring” enabled no longer causes a Turtle shield’s health penalties to be applied twice.
  • Adjusted drop rates of unique items from Doc Mercy, Mad Dog, Savage Lee and McNally to be more consistent across all modes.

For those who don’t know, Doc Mercy, Mad Dog, and the rest of the addressed mini bosses above, drop the Infinity, Mad House, Unkempt Harold and Hammer Buster, respectively. So look forward to be able to acquire these legendary weapons on TVHM/UVHM playthroughs.

Additionally, since this is a hot fix, you must be connected to the internet as soon as you reach the main menu, as hot fixes are applied once your are connected to the Shift server.
