eBay User Is Offering Service to “Attempt to Buy” the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition for $10,000

It was expected that the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection would attract the attention of scalpers, but a recent listing has been truly shocking. One eBay user is offering to “attempt to buy” a limited-edition PS5 Pro for an eye-watering $10,000 (technically $9,999). However, as of now, the listing has been removed by the seller, potentially due to backlash or eBay’s policies on early sales.

The PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition isn’t even available for official pre-order yet, yet this user had already posted the listing with a staggering $9,999 price tag. This move appeared over the top, especially since Sony hasn’t confirmed the actual retail price yet. The seller’s description began with the phrase, “Attempt to buy for you,” indicating that they weren’t even guaranteed to secure one of these exclusive consoles due to limited availability.

Previous search results showing the now-removed PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition listing on eBay

Sony will produce only 12,300 units of the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition, which includes a 2TB SSD, Wi-Fi 7, and several limited-edition accessories like the DualSense wireless controller and DualSense Edge controller. Scalpers are likely to take advantage of the limited supply, just as they did with the PS5 launch in 2020.

Unfortunately, scalpers often use bots to make payments faster than the average person when stores open pre-orders for new devices. This makes it incredibly difficult for regular buyers to secure a pre-order, as bots usually grab most of the stock within seconds.

PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition listed on eBay for $9,999

Pre-orders for the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection will officially open on September 26, 2024, through PlayStation Direct. It will then be available at other retailers starting October 10, 2024. While many gamers will be hoping to secure this limited edition PS5 Pro, the presence of scalpers could make the task extremely challenging. We’re already expecting these items to be heavily overpriced by resellers, though we’re hoping that won’t be the case.

Games Media Personnel Debunk Claims of Concord’s $400 Million Budget

With Concord crashing hard and loud, it’s been the talk of the video game industry the past few weeks, and it doesn’t seem like the chatter will stop anytime soon. Just yesterday, a rumor surfaced from former IGN games media journalist Colin Moriarty that Sony spent a whopping $400 million on Concord.

We here at MP1st, didn’t report on it, as that amount seems too absurd to be true. Now, we’re not saying Colin is lying or anything, but it wasn’t something we thought held much water, so we refrained from reporting on it. Now,  Christopher Dring, head of respected gaming publication GamesIndustry has debunked this claim:

Dring’s statement rings true — especially when it comes to above-the-line (ATL) marketing spend. For those not aware of what this means, this is the term used by companies when targeting a large audience, and this means ads on radio, TV, print media, magazines, billboards, online publications, etc. I mean, wasn’t one of the main headscratchers when it comes to Concord’s release is we really didn’t hear Sony market it much?

Adding further veracity to this $400M claim is Kotaku Senior Report Ethan Ganch who also mentions that this number is also not what they heard.

Obviously, all this chatter would end right away if Sony or someone at Firewalk revealed just how much the development budget is, but I highly doubt that’ll happen anytime soon.

There is another possibility of where that budget number came from. Sony had purchased Firewalk Studio for an undisclosed amount in 2023. There is a possibility that the budget that Colin heard was also taking into the amount spent on the studio. The purchase isn’t something that should be factored into the game’s budget, considering that cost to purchase the studio was, well, for the studio, but it is a possibility why that number is so high.

With Concord’s server shutdown this September 6, this marks an end to Firewalk’s debut game for Sony, and possibly the publisher’s biggest failure in PlayStation history. Based on Sony’s wording on it, it does seem like there is a chance the game can see a relaunch as a free-to-play game, though even with that, it still has an uphill climb given the stigma associated with the game’s brand.

Will we really know what happened with Concord’s development? Perhaps if people behind the game eventually talk, but until then, expect to hear rumors, reports and other insider knowledge seep out for us to digest.

How to Customize the PS5 Welcome Hub to Have Widgets Lined at the Bottom to Let You See Your Wallpaper Better

Just last week, Sony released a new PS5 firmware patch that adds new features such as 3D Audio Profiles, Adaptive Controller Charging and more. Undoubtedly, the biggest addition is the PS5 Welcome Hub that lets players customize their home screen and gives them a quick glimpse of what they want to know the most about.

As part of the Welcome Hub roll out, Sony now allows players to change their wallpapers as well. If you missed the PS4’s themes, then this is almost the same thing, and there are even animated ones available as well. Unfortunately, the way the Welcome Hub is designed, it stacks most of the tiles to the left, and once that part is full, it then fills up the center and so on. That’s fine and all if you want tiles of a lot of things, but what if you’re like me who only wants a few tiles visible on their Welcome Hub, so that I can see more of the wallpaper? Well, there is a way to do that, but it’s not as easy as it should be.

How to Customize the PS5 Welcome Hub to Have Widgets Lined at the Bottom:

The goal of this quick guide is to instruct PS5 owners how to get all three tiles (widgets) at the bottom most part of the screen, and if you have them in minimized mode, it should give you a very clean looking Welcome Hub/dashboard.

The way to do this is:

  • Get all nine tiles/widgets on the screen (make sure they are in minimized mode)
  • Re-arrange them so that the three that you want to appear on your Welcome Hub screen (meaning the top three widgets you want to see right away  when you see your PS5 dashboard) are on the bottom-most part of the nine-tile layout.
  • Once you’re done, simply hop on to the menu and disable the ones that you don’t want. Voila! It’s super simple, but it’s not as easy to figure out since the tiles keep stacking to the left most side.

It should look like this:

Share this article to someone you know who wants a clean looking PS5 dashboard! This way, you’ll be able to see your wallpaper without any obstruction! Chances are, Sony will be offering “premium” wallpapers for the console just like the PS4’s themes, and we’re looking forward to what developers come up with.

God of War Ragnarok PC Review – Raising Up the Mighty Axe

Nearly two years after its initial release on PlayStation, Santa Monica Studio’s God of War Ragnarok has finally arrived on PC. It joins the many recent PlayStation to PC ports, and though PlayStation’s journey into the PC market started a bit rough, they and their talented studios have proven over the years that they can deliver an exceptional PC experience, allowing their games to shine even further with the ever-evolving hardware offered by the platform. God of War Ragnarok is no exception to that, as the PC port was given the attention and care one would hope to see, elevating the already pristine masterpiece of an experience that PlayStation gamers got to greater heights.

A Masterpiece Made Even Better

For those wanting a more in-depth review of the God of War Ragnarok, I recommend you read my first review of the title, which came out on the PlayStation two years ago. Most, if not all, of my thoughts on the title when it comes to story, gameplay, and visuals remain unchanged with the PC port. For those who experienced God of War for the first time when the 2018 reboot came out on PC and are wondering if the follow-up is worth playing through, the short answer is absolutely yes. God of War Ragnarok is one of those sequels you can’t imagine being possible, because the one before it was so high up there that you couldn’t imagine it getting better, and yet it does. As I mentioned in my original review of sequel, it’s not better because it is a better game; it’s better because it manages to elevate the experience of the first game in a way that brings them together as if they were a single game. It is a single experience that seemingly feels so well-connected to each other regarding how things are callback and connected between each game.

Mind you, it’s a sequel that goes bigger in every way, and yes, it is a better game, but not a lot of game sequels out there that can manage to pull off what God of War Ragnarok does, which is by making its predecessor and even better game than it originally was by the use of world-building.

It is a masterpiece worth experiencing, regardless of your platform, and I cannot stress how much I recommend that everyone play this and God of War 2018.

With that being said, let’s look at the PC port of the game, which Jetpack Interactive spearheaded, such as they did with the original PC port of God of War (2018). The first thing a lot of PC players are going to take notice of is the spec requirements. While the minimum (low 1080p at 30 frames-per-second average) can run off an eight-year-old GPU, when you start scaling up to higher performance and resolution, the specs become really beefy. That’s not to say that running the game on lower hardware, such as the Steam Deck, won’t give you a great experience, but there’s some tinkering needed to get it. I got it running on average between 40-50fps, with it never dipping below 30fps (so locked 30fps is possible) with medium to low settings. It’s not bad for a portable device, something I wasn’t expecting to run nearly as smoothly.

However, you are in for a real treat for those with high-end PCs capable of running the game at 4K and 120 FPS. On my build, which was equipped with an RTX 4090 and an AMD 7900 CPU, God of War Ragnarok ran at a near-locked 120 FPS with DLSS and frame generation enabled.  All are done in high settings, too, which looks far sharper and more detailed than the PS5 version. It’s not some massive graphical leap that feels generational, but it does look better. Image quality and resolution are sharper on PC, allowing details to pop better. Draw distance, shadow quality, ambient occlusion; it all looks better because it is. It’s almost like removing a bit of the blur filter when playing on PC.

Again, it’s not a generational leap, but all these minor improvements add to a far better image on the screen. Of course, DLSS and FSR AI upscalers help with that, but they’re features Jetpack Interactive gladly takes advantage of. Visually, God of War Ragnarok improves on its already stunning visuals, allowing PC gamers to tweak the settings of most things to make it look better in most cases. What is going to be that “generational” leap between a high-end PC and what’s offered on the PS5 is the performance. The PS5 version offers Quality Mode (30fps), Performance Mode (60fps) and Unlocked FPS Mode, which has been noted by many before as being less smooth than 60fps despite going higher due to the mode not maintaining a stable frame rate. That’s not an issue on the PC version (as long as you have the power), and running the game on my rig allowed me mostly to run near 120fps, even in the most intensive areas.

The benefits of running at a higher frame rate than 60fps aren’t quite as noticeable as the jump from 30 to 60, but you can feel them more as controls are more responsive and animations run more smoothly. It honestly is a game changer to play the game at such a high frame rate while maintaining the same visual fidelity offered by the max settings.

Elsewhere, the PC version supports HDR (as does the console version) and an aspect ratio of 21:9/16:9/16:10. Playing ultra-wide sure is something I didn’t know I needed for God of War Ragnarok, given its linearity nature, but wow, is it gorgeous. The HDR implementation is actually well implemented, if not perfect, something a lot of PC gamers can probably tell you a lot of games struggle with. God of War Ragnarok is a very colorful game, more so than its predesseccor, and seeing all the lush jungles, the vibrant reds, and the dark colors, all being brought out through the HDR support on both an OLED and QLED display, is like stepping into another world.

Worthy of the Gods…

All in all, the PC port of God of War Ragnarok is exactly what I was hoping for it to be: an excellent, extremely well-optimized port that takes advantage of features only found on PCs, allowing it to shine even better than it did in its original release. That’s not to say that everything is perfect, as the game clocks in at nearly 200GB, double the size of the PlayStation versions. There’s also the PSN requirement. It’s not an issue for me since I have an account already, but it does suck knowing that the game can’t be sold everywhere because of it. I said it before, and I’ll say it again: everyone should be able to play this masterpiece, and Sony should find a way to make that possible.

Beyond that, though, the PC port of God of War Ragnarok is practically perfect. One of the greatest games to ever be released is now fully playable on PC, taking no shortcuts in features and allowing the game to shine to new heights on the platform. On the gameplay front, there is very little to criticize, since not only does the game feature a tightly woven narrative, its gameplay is what gamers dream of: visceral battles, fantastic boss fights, a deep progression and combat system that’s now made even better with uncompromised graphical performance. This is a highly recommended port that takes no shortcuts to godhood.

Score: 10/10

Pros:

  • Visually breathtaking.
  • Incredible story, filled with rich and engaging dialogue. It’s easy to get lost in one of Mirmir lengthy tales.
  • Excellent voice and motion capture performance. I have never felt for a character in the way God of War Ragnarok made me feel. The cast deserves a round of a applause for this one.
  • Side missions are some of the best crafted ones I’ve ever seen for an a game of this scope. Loads of secrets I’m still coming across well past 100% completion.
  • One of the best video games I’ve ever played.
  • The PC port is extremely optimized and polished. It’s amongst the best ports that PlayStation has released thus far, and offers everything a PC gamer could ask for when it comes to settings.

Cons:

  • None, I had to use a joke con in my original review to have something there, and to this day I still can’t think of something I disliked about the game. The PC release just made me love it even more.

A review code for God of War Ragnarok was provided by Sony Computer Entertainment. Played on the PC. You can read MP1st’s review and scoring policy right here.

God of War Ragnarok Debuts With Almost 23,000 Concurrent Players on Steam, 60% Fewer Than 2018’s God of War

God of War Ragnarok is finally available on PC, but the player interest seems low compared to the previous game. On release day, the game peaked at just under 23,000 concurrent players on Steam, compared to the 60,000 logged by God of War 2018 on its first day.

God of War Ragnarok debuted at the 63rd position in the list of most-played games on Steam, while God of War 2018 ranked at 22nd. The 2022 sequel drew in 22,967 concurrent players in the first hour but soon dropped to around 18,000 players.

One potential reason for the lower numbers is the mandatory PlayStation Network (PSN) account requirement, which has frustrated many players. Sony’s decision to impose PSN login requirements on all of its PC games has stirred criticism, especially since Helldivers 2 recently reversed its stance on mandatory PSN login. Though what’s strange here is, some people are able to play the game without logging into PSN.

God of War 2018 went on to reach almost 75,000 players over its launch weekend. Whether Ragnarok will also receive a weekend boost to approach the numbers of its predecessor, or maintain more modest figures, remains to be seen.

Here you can check out the top PlayStation games with their peak concurrent players on Steam:

  1. Helldivers 2 – 458,709 concurrent players
  2. God of War 2018 – 73,529 concurrent players
  3. Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered – 66,436 concurrent players
  4. Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut – 57,934 concurrent players
  5. Horizon Zero Dawn – 56,557 concurrent players
  6. Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition – 40,462 concurrent players
  7. The Last of Us: Part 1 – 36,496 concurrent players
  8. Days Gone – 27,450 concurrent players
  9. God of War Ragnarok – 22,967 concurrent players
  10. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales – 13,539 concurrent players

In the meantime, don’t miss our review of God of War Ragnarok, where we said, “The story is incredible, with rich, engaging dialogue. It’s easy to get lost in one of Mimir’s long, captivating tales.”  We’ll have a review of the PC version up on the site soon, as we got our review code a bit late.

EA: Interest and Demand for Battlefield Franchise Remains Strong, Where Market Is Now and Strength of Series Are a “Perfect Match”

While the Battlefield franchise is one of the most revered shooter brands in gaming history, even hardcore fans won’t deny that the series has lost some of its sheen with the last few franchise entries (namely: Battlefield V, Battlefield 2042).

In Electronic Arts’ (EA) Investor Day presentation, Laura Miele, President of EA Entertainment and Technology, was asked how the publisher is thinking about the opportunity of the Battlefield franchise relative to the prior iterations, and how does the publisher balance the four development teams working on the game, longer lead times to make sure the quality is high and the timeliness of getting the game to the market.

I don’t think there’s ever been a better time to look at the potential of the Battlefield franchise right now. You heard from Byron today about the level of engagement that we have in the community. Interest and demand remains strong, and we have an incredibly strong leadership team — the strongest leadership team we’ve ever had — on the Battlefield franchise. We have four studios instead of one working on it. so we know we’re investing in all the right places, and the most interesting thing really is the market has evolved and changed, and the shooter category has, and players have an agency over their gameplay; players who want to engage in these massive scaled battles. We have vehicles, and when you think about that, where the market’s gone, and what the strengths of Battlefield really are, it’s like this perfect match. So we know that if we continue to invest in the opportunity, with the strong leadership team we have, the great brand we have, the core tenets and strengths of the game leaning into where the market is going, we know we have a significant opportunity on our hands to really realize the full potential of the Battlefield brand. – Laura Miele, President of EA Entertainment and Technology

(Editor’s Note: Yes, we realize Miele didn’t exactly answer the question with her answer, but it is, what it is).

Hopefully, that interest and demand — and more importantly, trust — is still there when the new Battlefield game hits retail. Otherwise, EA will face the rude awakening of having a multi-million selling franchise squander all the goodwill and loyalty the franchise earned throughout the decades in a span of two games.

The next Battlefield game still has no official title, but it’s expected to be released next year given community testing is set to kick off in “early 2025.”

Rumor: Persona 6 Said to Be Announced at TGA 2024, Expected to Release in Summer 2025

It’s a fair assumption that Atlus is working on a new installment in the Persona series, especially after the resounding success of the Persona 5, which has sold over 10 million copies. While the game itself hasn’t been officially announced, recent rumors suggest that the long wait for a potential Persona 6 reveal might soon be over.

The latest rumor comes from X/Twitter user P0wyful, who hinted that Persona 6 will make its debut at the Tokyo Game Show 2024, taking place from September 26-29 The Game Awards 2024 which is set for December 12, 2024. P0wyful also suggested that the game could release as early as summer 2025, possibly in July, with three years of post-launch support already planned, including multiple DLC expansions.

P0wyful also mentioned that Persona 6 will be available on most current-generation consoles, though it’s unclear if it will arrive on Nintendo’s long-rumored Switch 2 console.

Report also claims that Persona 6 will explore a “duality” theme, featuring two protagonists—Kuro and Shiro, a male and a female—both students at an art school. The narrative will revolve around their experiences, and the duality concept will play a central role in the story.

This installment will also introduce a semi-open-world structure, providing players with more freedom to explore and interact with the game’s environment. Additionally, reports suggest that the social link system will expand significantly, providing deeper decision-making options.

Furthermore, the main color associated with Persona 6 is reported to be green, following the trend set by previous games—Persona 3 was blue, Persona 4 was yellow, and Persona 5 was red.

It’s important to take all this information with a grain of salt, as none of it has been officially confirmed. However, we’re reporting on this because a well-known leaker, formerly known as Midori, corroborated P0wyful’s claims, stating, “A ton of correct information in this thread.” With both leakers pointing to a Tokyo Game Show 2024 reveal, this adds more credibility to the rumors.

Update: Leaker meant TGA as in The Game Awards and not Tokyo Game Show. Article has been amended to include this clarification and apologies for the confusion.

Silent Hill 2 Remake Will Be a PS5 Exclusive Until Oct. 8 2025 Confirms New Trailer, So Don’t Expect an Xbox Version Until Then

Regardless of which platform you’re gaming now, chances are, you’ve heard that Konami is releasing a Silent Hill 2 remake next month for PS5 and PC. Now for those on Xbox (or even Nintendo) hoping to play this the horror game on your platform, the earliest you can do is is after October 8, 2025.

This was revealed by the latest Silent Hill 2 remake trailer titled “Immersion.” At the end, it mentions the date and how it won’t be “available on other formats” until it passes.

Obviously, there’s a deal made by Sony and Konami on this, which is par for the course for Sony. Mind, I’m not saying it’s OK, as I believe the more people can play this, the better. Of course, don’t expect the Xbox and whatever platform version to be available the day the deal expires, as chances are, that we’ll get an announcement confirming the version first before it’s released a few months after. At the very least, Xbox fans have a glimmer of hope that they’ll be able to play the horror remake at some point in the future.

For the latest look at Silent Hill 2, go check out 13 minutes of gameplay here, where we also listed the different editions and pre-order bonuses for players.

Silent Hill 2 is set for release this October 8 on PS5 and PC.

Sea of Thieves Down for Emergency Maintenance This Sept. 20, as Patch Version 1.339.415 Is Released

Rare has pulled the Sea of Thieves servers down without for emergency maintenance this September 20, as a new update patch version 1.339.415 is rolled out to address multiple issues affecting the game that stemmed from the Season 13 patch released just yesterday.

The maintenance started at 1 pm UTC/9 am ET/6 am PT/9 pm HKT, and has no set duration just yet per Rare.

Sea of Thieves Update Version 1.339.415 Patch Notes:

Here are some of the fixes being implemented today and for another fix planned for next week per Production Director Drew Stevens:

Fishing Rod Issues – 20/09 Hotfix
This update introduced an issue with the fishing rod that has had massive ramifications on the wider experience, from new launching exploits and negative player interactions to affecting wider game stability, with players experiencing elevated Marblebeard and Allmondbeard errors.

The team have been working to expedite a hotfix for the root cause of this issue, which from internal testing shows to have resolved all of the various use cases we are seeing reported from Live. We will be taking the game down for maintenance on Friday afternoon [13:00 UTC, 20th September 2024] and deploying a small game update to address these issues ahead of the weekend.

While there are clearly other issues we are still prioritising fixes for, we wanted to expedite an update here for the fishing rod as fast as we could, and therefore further fixes will now be taken in a follow-up release next week.

Follow-up 26/09 Hotfix
We’re also working on a follow-up hotfix targeting Thursday next week which addresses further high-impact issues currently affecting players in Live.

  • Throwing Knife Interactions – The team have identified the issue causing throwing knives to become stuck when colliding with allied crew members, and the recent regression to throwing knives able to be placed in the capstan to disrupt naval combat. Fixes will be heading into Insiders testing on Tuesday.
  • Burning Blade Disappearing – A crewed Burning Blade will now have a short grace period before it sinks to protect from scenarios where the Captain temporarily disconnects from the session. In the event of a crew purposefully leaving the game while in control of the Burning Blade, it will now sink naturally rather than use the visual effects that would signify it had been handed in at The Reaper’s Hideout. These changes will be heading into Insiders testing this Friday.
  • Burning Blade’s Skeleton Crew – An issue causing the Obsidian Skeleton crew from disappearing when returning to the Burning Blade via a Mermaid or Statue has been resolved and confirmed with Insiders.
  • Further Crash Rate Improvements – The team have identified further improvements to crash rates that will be heading into Insiders on Tuesday for testing.

That’s about it. Once the servers are back up, we’ll update the article with the info, so sit tight!

PS5 System Update 24.06-10.01.00 Released for Stability and Games’ Graphical Bugs Issue

Just last week, Sony rolled out a hefty PS5 firmware patch that introduced the Welcome Hub among other improvements and new features. Unfortunately, this also brought with it, issues affecting some games. That should be resolved with today’s PS5 system update 24.06-10.01.00 that’s available for download now this September 20.

PS5 System Update 24.06-10.01.00 Patch Notes:

Download Size: 1.2GB

Sony’s official changelog only mentions:

  • We’ve improved system software performance and stability.

Just a few days ago, Square Enix confirmed that they were working with Sony to sort the graphical issues affecting Final Fantasy 16.

Note that the issues didn’t just affect Final Fantasy 16, but also other titles such as Star Wars Outlaws, No Man’s Sky and more. There’s a Reddit thread about where gamers talked about it in-depth:

New System Update is screwing up Graphics in Game.
byu/dabigsiebowski inPS5

This patch should alleviate those graphical and crashing issues and hopefully, there won’t be another bug that surfaces from this.If you notice that some games are still having issues, leave a comment below and let us know.

God of War Ragnarok on PC Gets Review Bombed Hours Upon Release by Gamers Due to PSN Account Requirement, Though Oddly Is Only Randomly Forcing It

God of War Ragnarok is officially out on PC, opening to a stream of gamers on a whole new platform for the very first time. While the PC release is every bit of a masterpiece like it was with the PS5 version, but with more features to take advantage of, not all is well, at least on Steam, as players have begun review-bombing God of War Ragnarok all due to an apparent PSN account requirement.

(Editor’s Note: Title updated for better clarity)

God of War Ragnarok’s Apparent PSN Requirement on PC has PC Players Riled Up.

Though the news of God of War Ragnarok requiring a PSN account on PC to play is something that has been announced by Sony before, that hasn’t stopped PC players from voicing their criticism of the requirement in the form of review bombing. Over on Steam, God for War Ragnarok currently sits at a 64%  player recommendation, with countless reviews referring to the requirement for their low rating.

While it can be argued that many, if not most, of these users’ data is already out there, it is still an understandable reasoning for not wanting to create a PSN, especially to play a single-player game. Then there are also those who are left out on PC, a platform which many enjoy for its openness. There are countless PC players who were hoping to try out the sequel to the first rebooted title, but they can’t since it’s not sold in their country due to the requirements to play it. We saw such a case when Sony pulled Helldivers 2 from multiple countries despite previously being available until they started forcing the PSN requirement.

Now here’s the kicker: While the game does ask players to create a PSN account to play, it is not happening to everyone. Based on our own testing, you can play it without it, and this has been echoed by other games as well.

However, some gamers are not able to bypass it, while some can. Here’s a discussion on-going on the game’s Steam page:

The stream mentioned is here in case you want to see it for yourself.

We admit, requiring to create a PSN account just to play a single-player game is a bummer. Of course, there are means to circumvent it, such as using VPNs to create an account, but those are hoops that many aren’t too fond of. What’s odd here is the seemingly randomness of it. We’ve reached out to Sony about it, and will update the article if we get a response back.

Whether or not Sony reverse course on this is anyone’s guess, though given all the recent sleight of PlayStation releases on PC, something tells us this requirement will stay for the long haul.

The Sims 5 Not in Development, Multiple Sims Projects in the Works

Electronic Arts (EA) has officially confirmed that it has no plans to develop The Sims 5. Instead, the company outlined its future strategy for one of its most popular franchises, choosing to continue supporting The Sims 4. EA has abandoned the traditional sequel model, opting not to release a successor to The Sims 4.

This was revealed during the EA Investor Day presentation, and also in an interview with Variety, Kate Gorman, vice president and general manager of the franchise, stated that The Sims 5 will not be developed. Instead, the studio will focus on releasing more expansions for The Sims 4 and enhancing the game with new features. This decision has surprised many who were eagerly anticipating a sequel, but there is a clear rationale behind it.

According to Gorman, EA does not want The Sims 5 to be seen as a replacement. The franchise director pointed out that there are more than 80 million Sims 4 players worldwide, and there is concern that they might feel they have to start over with a new game.

Gorman said:

What we’re really working with our community on is this a new era of ‘The Sims.’ We are not going to be working on replacements of previous projects; we’re only going to be adding to our universe. With that, you’ll see there are more ways to experience ‘The Sims’ on different platforms, different ways to play, transmedia, and lots of great offerings within this universe.

This decision appears to be a sound one, given that The Sims 4 has been on the market for over 10 years and has a wealth of expansions and content packs. Rather than just another chapter in the series, The Sims 4 has evolved into a game as a service.

A few years ago, EA announced Project Rene, a concept that would lay the foundation for the next generation of The Sims. The studio planned to transform the game into a social experience that other people could engage with, alongside offering more powerful creation tools for players.

Since its reveal, many fans had assumed Project Rene was The Sims 5. However, this announcement clarifies that EA doesn’t intend Project Rene to replace The Sims 4 but rather to extend the franchise. EA will directly apply the learnings from Project Rene to The Sims 4. Importantly, EA has not officially canceled the concept of The Sims—instead, it is taking a new approach to the franchise.

Gorman explained:

It’s not ‘Sims 5’ as a replacement for ‘4.’ “What this means is that we will continue to bring HD simulation experience and what people would want from a ‘5’ — but it doesn’t mean that we’re going to start you over, reset all your progress, and really feel like you’re going to lose all of that amazing play you put into ‘4.’

In a blog post, EA also mentioned that The Sims will move beyond linear, sequential releases and offer more options. The game has shifted away from being a traditional franchise to becoming more of an entertainment platform. All technological advancements and new features will be applied directly to The Sims 4.

Alongside this announcement, EA President Laura Miele also revealed that the company has outlined plans for four different Sims projects. These include continuing support for The Sims 4, The Sims Project Rene, My Sims, and The Sims Project Stories. All of these projects will be interconnected through The Sims Hub.

END DATE:

Monday, September 23rd, at 1:00 PM CEST/ 7:00 AM EDT/ 4:00 AM PDT

SEASONS 2.0

Seasonal Journey

The new Seasonal Journey introduces a structured progression system with 7 sequential missions, each containing 8 objectives. It is designed to guide players through the early stages of each new season, offering a mix of challenges and goals that introduce key mechanics. Available from level 1, even new players can jump right into the current season’s content.

The entire Seasonal Journey unlocks at the start of the season. As you complete each mission and objective, you’ll earn various rewards, including XP, Season Pass XP, progression-boosting items, resources, and active modifiers. Completing the entire journey will grant you a unique cosmetic item.

Seasonal Modifiers

The Seasonal Modifiers are central to each season’s unique gameplay, spicing up the usual rules and mechanics of the game. There are four distinct types of modifiers, each playing a crucial role in shaping player experience:

  • Global Modifiers set the overall theme of the season and are active at all times while the system is enabled, affecting the core gameplay loop.
    • In the first season, the theme is “range.” The Global Modifier, “Point Blank,” grants a bonus damage based on distance from enemies.
  • Active Modifiers function like “ultimate” abilities, giving your character a short burst of power.
    • Players can choose from a selection of Active Modifiers, but only one can be equipped at a time. For the first season, they manipulate the range zones set by the Global Modifier.
  • Passive Modifiers work in conjunction with the Global Modifier, adding extra bonuses.
    • Players can equip up to three Passive Modifiers simultaneously. In the first season, these modifiers provide additional benefits based on the range zones from the Global Modifier.
  • Hostile Modifiers: These represent how the enemies adapt to your new abilities.
    • As players progress through the season, enemies will gradually gain new abilities linked to specific enemy types, forcing you to use the Global, Passive, and Active Modifiers strategically to counter them.

The modifier system can be disabled at any time and is mutually exclusive with global events, allowing players to control how they engage with the seasonal challenges.

Priority Objectives

The Priority Objectives system offers a variety of short-term objectives, enhancing the way players can farm for items and resources in the game. The Priority Objectives system becomes available upon reaching level 30.

Players can choose from three objectives, selecting one based on limited information such as duration, reward category, and mission type. Once a selection is made, it is locked in, and the full details of the objective and its rewards will be revealed.

If none of the objectives appeal to the player, the system allows for rerolls. Players can earn reroll points by completing Priority Objectives, with a maximum of three rerolls stored at any time.

There is no limit to the number of Priority Objectives a player can complete, and rewards include XP, Season Pass XP, items, resources, and passive modifier unlocks.

Manhunt Scouts

Manhunt Scouts is a new system that drives the game’s narrative by requiring players to complete weekly activities that reward them with equipment, XP, materials, and, most importantly, new collectibles.

Each week, players can tackle a Scout, which consists of three different activities. These activities will vary, and players must solve a small riddle to complete each one. Activities should be completed in order, and once all three are finished, players will receive the Scout Reward.

Once all activities in a Scout are completed, players will receive a bigger reward, including a unique collectible. However, new Scouts cannot be accessed until the current one is completed.

By the end of the season, completing all Scouts unlocks the Manhunt Climax Mission, and finishing that unlocks the Master Climax Mission, so make sure to stay on track each week.

In TU22, a fresh batch of Named Weapons will be added to the loot pool for missions and mission bosses. Here’s what you need to know:

  • The original loot tables will remain unchanged, but will now include additional opportunities to obtain the newly added items.
  • While these items will have a higher drop rate, they are not guaranteed rewards and may still require multiple attempts to acquire.
  • The likelihood of these weapons dropping will increase with the difficulty level of the mission.
  • These new loot drop chances will be exclusively available for characters at level 40 or above.
  • Importantly, these changes will not apply to “invaded” missions and are limited to their regular versions.
