Hades PS4 Version Rated in Korea

Supergiant Games’ excellent rogue-like game, Hades, seems to be headed to the PS4! While no official announcement was made, the game has been rated in Korea, which suggests the Hades PS4 version is on the way.

The filing can be seen here (via ResetEra), which honestly shouldn’t really surprise anyone.

Hades was first released on PC last year after initially being available as an Early Access title.

Not familiar with Hades? Here’s an overview straight from the game’s Steam page:

BATTLE OUT OF HELL

As the immortal Prince of the Underworld, you’ll wield the powers and mythic weapons of Olympus to break free from the clutches of the god of the dead himself, while growing stronger and unraveling more of the story with each unique escape attempt.

UNLEASH THE FURY OF OLYMPUS

The Olympians have your back! Meet Zeus, Athena, Poseidon, and many more, and choose from their dozens of powerful Boons that enhance your abilities. There are thousands of viable character builds to discover as you go.

BEFRIEND GODS, GHOSTS, AND MONSTERS

A fully-voiced cast of colorful, larger-than-life characters is waiting to meet you! Grow your relationships with them, and experience thousands of unique story events as you learn about what’s really at stake for this big, dysfunctional family.

BUILT FOR REPLAYABILITY

New surprises await each time you delve into the ever-shifting Underworld, whose guardian bosses will remember you. Use the powerful Mirror of Night to grow permanently stronger, and give yourself a leg up the next time you run away from home.

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE

Permanent upgrades mean you don’t have to be a god yourself to experience the exciting combat and gripping story. Though, if you happen to be one, crank up the challenge and get ready for some white-knuckle action that will put your well-practiced skills to the test.

SIGNATURE SUPERGIANT STYLE

The rich, atmospheric presentation and unique melding of gameplay and narrative that’s been core to Supergiant’s games is here in full force: spectacular hand-painted environments and a blood-pumping original score bring the Underworld to life.

Once an official announcement has been made, we’ll let our readers know. It shouldn’t be long now.

PlayStation Studios Steam Page Goes Live, Lists 41 Games & DLCs

With Sony releasing more and more first-party games on PC, Sony has today launched the PlayStation Studios Steam page! There are about 41 games and DLCs, with some hidden.

The PlayStation Studios Steam page has the following description on its “About” portion:

“PlayStation Studios is home to the development of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s own outstanding and immersive games, including some of the most popular and critically acclaimed titles in entertainment history.”

The featured game on the store is Sony Bend’s Days Gone, which will be out on May 18, while games like Horizon Zero Dawn, Helldivers, Predator: Hunting Grounds and more are showcased, too.

There are also a number of DLC, which is why the number shows as “41 games,” but the reality of it is that this is a combination of both DLC and games available. What’s interesting about this is that only 24 pieces a games and DLC are actually viewable, and while Days Gone may have some extra DLC of some sort to stack that number up, we doubt it’s an extra 17 pieces of content.

Perhaps this is a hint that there are more games to come, or possibly just a listing error? Who knows, but we are pretty confident that Sony plans on releasing more PlayStation exclusives over on PC in the near future.

Why are Card Games Intrinsically Linked With Premium Currency?

If you’ve ever played a digital card game like Gwent or Hearthstone, it can’t have escaped you that there’s a definite focus on the game’s premium currency. To some degree, it feels as though these games have been built around purchasing this currency. However, there’s usually always a way to progress that doesn’t require you to spend a penny. These games never swing too hard in one direction, but they feel like they could so easily. In this article, we’re going to explore exactly why these games are so intrinsically linked with the premium currency that keeps them alive.

First, let’s look at what this premium currency usually does. Specifically, in digital card games, premium currency is used to buy packs or resources that are used to build new cards. This ties into the progression systems for games like Hearthstone because new and better cards are required to get better at the game. You have a chance to pick up better cards for free, but you have to put a lot of time into the game. Buying packs and making new cards with the resources you gain from dismantling duplicates gets you on the road to being a top-level player faster.

In Gwent, you’re buying resources to craft new cards. These cards will help you battle against the game’s enemies and other players much better. Here, you’re not so much buying new cards as you are the chance to make them. It’s a different way of getting better at the game that removes the element of chance. Some prefer it, while others enjoy what Hearthstone’s systems offer.

Both of these games allow you to earn cards for free, though. By playing them for long hours, you can pick up the resources required to buy more cards and craft them. In this way, it doesn’t feel like either game focuses on premium currency at all. That’s where they can differ from a lot of other online games with such a currency. However, these games are always built around this premium currency because it’s what keeps them alive.

Take a look at World of Warcraft. You can buy the game’s premium currency, and there are even businesses like WoW Classic TBC Gold that are based around it. The thing is, you’re not forced into buying this currency to enjoy the game and get better. You can do that all by yourself. In digital card games, though, there’s a focus on purchasing this currency because you’re given the idea that it’ll somehow make you better. It’s an interesting concept, but it’s also not entirely true.

You’re only as good in a digital card game as your skill. You can have all the cards in the world, but you won’t beat the game or any other players if you don’t know how to use them. This is where digital card games are so different from other games with premium currency. You can’t buy your way victory. You have to make your way there by learning the game and being better at it.

Marvel’s Avengers Spider-Man Release Still Planned This Year by Crystal Dynamics

Despite the roadmap not mentioning a release, it would appear that Spider-Man is still schedule to make his debut in Crystal Dynamics Marvel’s Avengers sometime this year.

Since the reveal of the Marvel’s Avengers roadmap, many had speculated that the web-swinger was going to miss his release this year in Marvel’s Avengers. With the team focused on delivering fresh new content throughout the year, with it leading up to a Black Panther expansion, it was understandable that many had assumed that, especially after Crystal Dynamics head of studio Scott Amos recent comments around the character.

Well, looks like we have finally been given an answer as Crystal Dynamics confirmed today during their latest developer stream. Taking to the Twitch chat, Crystal Dynamic was asked by users about Spider-Man’s release window. While no specific date was given, the PR rep simply replied with “2021.”

There you have it, Spider-Man is still targeting a 2021 release, although this does go without saying that that could very well change in the future. It is however, still a planned exclusive for PlayStation.

Marvel’s Avengers is now available for purchase, including on the latest next-gen consoles. For those wondering, the game is set to receive some brand-new DLC next month revolving around Black Widow’s Red Room event. Details on the Red Room event can be found below.

Agent James “Jimmy” Woo has reported a number of anomalies within the HARM Room, each linked to an unknown computer virus. His diagnostic tests have indicated that the hack originated from the same IP address as the Rooskaya Protocols. Along with the virus, encrypted messages have been sent, all addressed to Black Widow from “Rooskaya” herself – Yelena Belova.

Multiple hacked HARM Rooms will be available during this event along with new mission chains. These hacked HARM Rooms are single player only as they require agility and a keen sense of one’s surroundings that may be interrupted by having a team. Each of these will also scale from Power Level 1 to 120.

There are five different hacked HARM Rooms that will test your traversal and evasion abilities so you can truly feel like a master spy. Yelena Belova is playing for keeps and has placed multiple hazards in these rooms like Techno Lava, which instantly kills Heroes – or enemies – upon touch, and Red Lightning, a more potent form of AIM’s blue lightning. Various enemies will also be trying to take you down. We won’t spoil what the layout is in each of these five hacked HARM Rooms. It’ll spoil Yelena’s fun. We’ll be providing tips and tricks from our team on how to complete the Red Room Takeover Event in next week’s Weekly Blog.

Participating in this event and completing mission chains will reward you with an exclusive animated nameplate, a significant amount of XP, and more. XP is important because of the new Champion System.

Champion System

Currently, when Heroes reach the level cap of 50, XP becomes obsolete. With the new Champion System, Heroes who are level 50 can improve their combat abilities even further. Once a Hero reaches level 50, earned XP from that point on is changed to Champion XP, which is specific to each Hero. Earning enough Champion XP will increase your Champion Level, which is marked on your nameplate. Whenever a Hero levels up their Champion Level, they’ll earn a Champion Skill Point, which is used to unlock a multitude of Champion Skills. Champion Skills are on their own separate interface and take the form of boosts to your damage, Perk chance activation, Heroic charge rate, etc. These are permanent increases, so every Champion Skill matters!

Note: You will not be able to re-spec your Champion Skills yet, so please choose how you want to power up your Hero wisely for the time being.

As a complement to the Champion System, we’re also introducing Hero’s Catalysts, which increase the amount of XP you’ll earn. These will occasionally be available for free to retrieve from the Marketplace, and we’re looking at other ways for you to earn them, as well. Hero’s Catalysts are a great way to catch up to friends or to level up any Heroes that haven’t reached level 50 yet.

Player’s will be able to play the Red Room Event starting May 20.

Are you guys still excited for the release of  Spider-Man in Marvel’s Avengers? Let us know!

Destiny 2 Iron Banner May 2021 Schedule Announced, Here’s a Look at New Weapons

With Destiny 2’s Season of the Splicer starting this week, guardians will have more stuff to do next week, as Bungie has announced that Lord Saladin is coming back! The Destiny 2 Iron Banner May 2021 schedule has been announced, and there’s even a little peek at the new weapons coming in as rewards.

Destiny 2 Iron Banner May 2021 Schedule:

IRON BANNER
START: MAY 18 AT 10 AM PDT/1 PM EDT HKT
END: MAY 25 AT 10 AM PDT/1 PM EDT/1 AM HKT

Convert to your timezone here.

Some of the changes guardians will see is that the re-enabled Heavy weapon step is now easier to complete, as it only requires three Machine Gun kills to finish!

Here’s a look at what’s coming:

We showed off two new weapons as well as two Year-1 weapons that are getting random rolls for the first time in a previous TWAB. Here is another look in case you missed it!

Bungie also talked a bit about Armor Synthesis:

ARMOR SYNTHESIS

With players now able to turn their armor into universal ornaments, we’d like to clarify how and why some armor doesn’t appear unlocked in the Armor Customization area.
  • Armor won’t show up if a player is wearing that armor.
  • Some armor sets were purposely combined into one set to reduce players accidentally overspending their tokens for duplicate armor. Examples include:
      • Gambit Prime Armors – Anyone who unlocked a Gambit Prime armor set has access to the Illicit (Basic) Gambit Prime Armor Synthesis universal ornaments.
      • Leviathan Prestige Class Items – The Prestige class items from the Leviathan raid uses the same arrangement as the base version, but uses a different dye to distinguish the two, so we reduced these two items into one item for Armor Synthesis.
      • Red War Parade Armors – The Legendary sets share appearances with the armor from the Red War introductory mission.
      • Green and Blue Solstice Armor – The appearances of these armors are identical without support of the Glows and were reduced to a single set. The green set also matches the wrecked parade armor, so it was reduced further.
      • Purple Solstice Armor – As we announced last week, glows from 2018’s and 2019’s Solstice of Heroes are being worked on and will be implemented later this year for the Legendary armors only.
      • Exotic Armor – Exotic armor cannot take the appearance of alternate armor, nor can Exotic armor be converted into a Universal Ornament and used on Legendary armor.
      • Year 1 Armor Ornaments – These are being worked on and will be implemented later this year.
Once the Iron Banner is back, we’ll be sure to let our readers know the Iron Bounties and more.

BioWare: Mass Effect Legendary Edition Multiplayer Depends on Game Reception & Demand

With Mass Effect Legendary Edition storming out into gaming platforms this week, BioWare has thrust Commander Shepard’s entire journey into new players’ hands. However, there is one thing missing though, and that’s multiplayer, as there is no Mass Effect Legendary Edition multiplayer included in the trilogy, even if Mass Effect 3 incorporated it.

Given the state of games nowadays, that can be remedied by an expansion/patch down the line. The question here is: will BioWare deliver on it? Speaking to CNET, BioWare Project Director Mac Walters was asked exactly this, and while he didn’t say yes, he didn’t say no, either. It all depends on whether the reception to Mass Effect Legendary Edition is warm enough, and if fans are asking for it.

Is there any possibility of the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer mode (which isn’t in the Legendary Edition) coming back in some form? I got super into it back then because you could try all the different abilities and just zip around as an Asari or one of the other races.

Walters: I would never say no to that — we want to see what kind of reception the Legendary Edition gets and what the demand for the multiplayer is. And then we’ll ask ourselves if we have the resources and time to bring it up to the quality level we and fans want.

Well, that’s the best we can hope for, right? As someone who loved Mass Effect 3’s horde-mode style multiplayer, I really, really hope Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer makes its way back. Can you imagine that having crossplay? More classes, new levels and so on? It would rock even Cmdr. Shepard’s socks off.

Stay tuned to our review of the Legendary Edition hitting the site soon!

Dying Light 2 Will Have More Open World Events Compared to First Game, Picking Faction Is Mandatory

While we haven’t seen new gameplay footage of Dying Light 2 in quite some time, Techland is making sure fans are kept up to date with the game, as another studio Q&A session has been conducted by the studio, where some interesting questions have been answered.

Related Reading: Dying Light 2 Won’t Have Modern Guns or Drivable Vehicles Confirmed

In the video, which you can see below, Lead Game Designer Tymon Smektala, and Associate Producer Julia Szynkaruk fielded questions, with Szynkaruk confirming that more open world events will be in the game, compared to the first Dying Light!

Fan Question: Will there be more open world events such as airdrops from the first game?

Julia Szynkaruk: Yes, there will be a lot more open world events in Dying Light 2. Not only will we have a living world with encounters all over, but also you will be able to explore new locations, such as GRE Quaratines or Dark Places.

In the same Q&A, Smektala confirmed that players will need to side with one faction, so nope, you can’t “lone wolf” the main game.

Fan Question: Will I be able to side with no factions, and be an enemy to all?

Tymon Smektala: You have to understand that our world is extremely brutal, extremely primal; full of threats and conflicts. So, if you have no allies, you basically die very quickly — and we don’t want you to die very quickly, and we also want you to make a decision,  we also want you to make a statement. So a lone wolf option is not available, you wil have to decide if you want to play with those guys or the other ones.

There are two main factions in the Dying Light 2 game world. There are the Peacekeepers (which is the more combat-oriented faction), and there’s the Survivors (which focus mostly on traversal). There’s also the Renegades, which are the main villains of the game, and there are also other smaller factions that are in the game for story purposes, side missions and whatnot.

You can check out the full Q&A below.

Dying Light 2 still has no firm release date, but is targeted to be released sometime this year. Once we know more, we’ll let our readers know.

A League of Legends Netflix Series is Planned for Fall 2021

The League of Legends spin-off anime series Arcane has been given a release window of fall 2021. While this won’t be the first Netflix video game adaptation, it is the first-ever League of Legends show. Given how popular the game is, the show could do incredibly well. As long as it’s true to the source material.

According to Netflix, Arcane is described as an “event series.” This seems to indicate that it won’t have multiple seasons. Unlike Castlevania. Instead, the series could tie in with big events in League of Legends. This would add to the story being built around each character and how they interact. The series could equally tie in with real-world events such as tournaments, with new characters being revealed, getting an event series, and then being used throughout a season.

https://twitter.com/NetflixGeeked/status/1389218281706254336

What is Arcane?

The blurb for Arcane explains that the setting is “in the utopian region of Piltover and the oppressed underground of Zaun.” The series will go on to cover “the origins of two iconic League champions – and the power that will tear them apart.” Shauna Spenley, a Riot Games Executive, added that this series has been created as a love letter to both players and fans. Particularly those who have been asking for deeper dives into the League of Legends world. She added that Netflix was the clear choice as a partner for creating such a series because the global brand and reputation for quality will see it spread to as many people as possible.

There are hundreds of Legends that the series could follow. If Arcane is meant to be a series of separate events, then it could follow all of them, from Lee Sin to Jinx. There’s no limit on where it could go and explore and the characters it could explore as well.

Netflix has a proven track record when it comes to creating an original series. The Witcher is a great example that is more inspired by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and based on the books. However, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness looks incredible, and there are plans for Tomb Raider and Sonic animes as well. Arcane could only be the beginning.
