Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Is Coming To Xbox 360 & PlayStation 3, Activision Reveals

Call of Duty fans on previous generation consoles will be happy to hear Activision’s latest announcement regarding Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Treyarch’s upcoming game, Black Ops 3.

In the company’s latest blog, it reveals that Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will arrive on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in addition to the previously announced platforms, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. To make it happen, Activision is partnering up with developers Beenox and Mercenary Technology who will help “deliver the best possible experience” across campaign, multiplayer, and zombies.

The company notes that some features and functionality built specifically for newer hardware won’t be possible on the older platforms. Black Ops 3’s co-operative campaign, for example, will only allow for two players on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, instead of four. More specifics on differences are to come in the coming months. Activision also confirmed that it has no plans to bring Black Ops 3 to Nintendo’s Wii U.

You’ll be able to catch Black Ops 3 at E3 2015 this year, which is only one week away. Stay tuned to MP1st for more gameplay details and brand new footage.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 launches November 6.

First Details On Halo 5: Guardians’ Four-Player, Co-Op Campaign [Updated]

Update

In an update on Halo Waypoint, 343 Industries Studio Head Josh Holmes corrected a point about Halo 5: Guardian’s co-operative campaign, explaining that it still will require an Xbox Live Gold account to play online. A 14-day Xbox Live Gold trial will be provided with every copy of Halo 5: Guardians, however.

“I need take a moment to make an important correction on something we miscommunicated in the story. I misspoke during the interview when stating that online co-op campaign would be supported with an Xbox Live Silver account. Co-op campaign will require Xbox Live Gold to play. I want to extend my sincere apologies to our fans, and to Game Informer, for this error and any confusion it has caused.

“That said, it is important to us that fans have the opportunity to play the full co-op campaign experience and we are doing this by providing a 14-day Xbox Live Gold trial with Halo 5: Guardians.”

Original Story

As some of the most recent Halo reveals have suggested, 343 Industries’ newest game will bring four-player, squad-based co-op combat to the forefront in Halo 5: Guardians’ story campaign.

In GameInformer’s July Issue, which previews some of the new multiplayer and campaign aspects of Halo 5: Guardians, we learn that both Master Chief and Spartan Locke have assembled their own fire teams comprising of returning and brand new figures in the Halo universe.

Chief is reunited with other Spartan-II’s, Linda, Kelly, and Fred, in Blue Team, which plays opposite of Locke’s newly formed Osiris Team built up of more modern Spartan-IV’s, including Tanaka, Vale, and Halo 3: ODST’s Buck.

Three members of each team will accompany either Chief or Locke as A.I. companions in Halo 5: Guardians’ campaign. They can be commanded and issued orders to attack specific targets, pick up weapons, use turrets, or drive vehicles using the D-Pad. Teammates are also capable of reviving you upon incapacitation. Team banter will help flesh characters out, replacing interactions with with Chief’s former A.I. companion, Cortana.

Spartan allies can be controlled by a human players via drop-in and drop-out co-op and have their own unique loadouts and heads-up display. Difficulty will scale based on the amount of human players in a game. An Xbox Live Gold membership will not be required to play online co-op.

As for a quick rundown of the setting that Halo 5: Guardians takes place in, cataclysmic events are tearing star systems apart eight months after the conclusion of Halo 4. These events are believe to be tied to the Guardians, mysterious Forunner entities that first made an appearance in Halo 5’s E3 2013 teaser.

Microsoft’s E3 2015 media briefing begins at 9:30 AM Pacific this coming Monday, June 15, where much more will be revealed, including a brand new multiplayer experience. Here’s where you can watch it.

Rumor – Destiny’s $40 “The Taken King” DLC To Launch Mid-September With New Sub-Classes, Reveal At E3

According to reports, Destiny‘s next major expansion arrives on September 15 with a hefty $40 USD price tag.

Activision marketing documents, which were allegedly leaked to Kotaku earlier today, state that the DLC will be called “The Taken King” and will set Guardians afoot on new Strike missions to face new enemies called The Taken, culminating in a new Raid to defeat Oryx, the father of the Hive Prince Crota who was conquered in Destiny’s first DLC, The Dark Below. It’s said that The Taken King will also offer new competitive multiplayer maps and will introduce new Guardian sub-classes for players to level up, including new Super abilities like The Hunter’s Gravity Bow (Void), the Warlock’s Electrical Storm (Arc), and the Titan’s Flaming Hammer (Solar).

Last month, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg revealed plans for “a major release which will be the biggest addition to the Destiny universe yet across all modes of play,” but offered no additional details. A trademark filing for “The Taken King” and an accompanying logo were discovered earlier that day.

It makes sense that Bungie’s next expansion might center itself around the enemy race known as the Hive, which the “oxblood” symbol seen above just so happens to represent. Still, we recommend taking the news with a grain of salt and keeping an open mind while we hang tight for officials to fill us in on what exactly fans will be getting for $40. Luckily, we wont have to wait too long as the studio is said to be making an appearance at E3 next week with more Destiny news.

Bungie has declined to comment on the report, says Kotaku. What’s your take on the rumor? What do you think Bungie has up their sleeve for E3 2015?

New Plants vs. Zombies Trailer Suggests Garden Warfare Sequel Reveal At E3 2015

A new Plants vs. Zombies trailer outed by publisher Electronic Arts suggests the company has something new in store for Garden Warfare fans at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo.

The unrevealing footage, above, is mostly made up of familiar PvZ sound effects that remind us of PopCap HD’s Garden Warfare series, which debuted on Xbox in early 2014 and later on PlayStation and PC.

Last month, EA revealed plans to launch another console and PC title in the PvZ series in early 2016. More recently, Videogamer spotted a couple of job listings at EA that practically confirm a Garden Warfare sequel is indeed in the works. “Popcap HD is looking for a talented Interface Designer to help bring the UI of a new Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare game to life,” reads the first listing. Meanwhile, the second reveals that the studio is “seeking a Designer/Scripter to help us create engaging mission experiences for an upcoming shooter.”

As the recent trailer points out, it looks like Microsoft will be doing the revealing during their E3 2015 media briefing at 9:30 AM Pacific on June 15, suggesting that the shooter will once again launch first on Xbox and PC. If history repeats itself, “Garden Warfare 2” will remain a timed-exclusive until it launches later on PlayStation.

PopCap HD’s first shooter set in the quirky PvZ universe was received quite well in our books and we’d be happy to see another. How about you? Tell us in the comments below.

Valve Is Invading Your Living Room With New Steam Devices November 10

Earlier this year at GDC, Valve announced plans to release its anticipated Steam Controller, a new product called the Steam Link and Steam Machines from multiple manufacturing partners such as Alienware and Falcon Northwest later this year. Now, we have set release dates for some but not all of what’s to come.

First off is the Steam Controller, which switches things up from the standard Xbox 360 or DualShock controller by featuring dual trackpads, a lone analog stick, the classic ABXY button layout, and gyroscope & accelerometer sensors “enabling tilt-to-steer racing wheel functionality”. You can watch the trailer for the new Steam Controller below.

[youtube id=”XFdiy-uh79k”]

Next is the Steam Link, a tiny set top box that allows you to play any of your Steam games on any T.V. in your household through your local internet. While it may look small, it comes fully featured with 3 USB 2.0 ports, Bluetooth 4.0, an Ethernet port and HDMI out port so that you can play your games at full 1080p, 60FPS.

Both the Steam Controller and Steam Link cost $49.99 USD and hit stores on Novemeber 10th, but if you’re an early adopter with a preorder, you can get them October 16th. You can also buy them in a bundle here.

The same release date also applies to Alienware and Cyberpower’s Steam Machines, the first two to be launched this year, starting at $449.99. The machines are, in theory, supposed to rival and even outperform (by a small margin) next-gen consoles at the same price range, but if you’re looking to up your performance even more, you can opt-out of the lower priced options and get a more hefty build for a bit more cash. You can check out the tiers for Alienware here, and Cyberpower here.

Excited to get your hands on Valve’s new toys? What are your eyes set on?

Uncharted 4 Beta Announced, Pre-order Uncharted Collection For Access

It’s official. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake collection will be hitting store shelves on October 9th of this year, including the first original three Uncharted titles all remastered in glorious 1080P and at 60 frames-per-second.

[youtube id=”dInK91eOsXE”]

Working closely with the guys that brought you Titanfall on the Xbox 360 and a number of other HD collections, Blueprint Studio, Naughty Dog has promised that this HD collection will not only offer what many consider should be the standard resolution and frame-rate, but also include a large amount of improvements gathered from years of feedback. With new trophies, and the addition of Photomode, Naughty Dog plans on making this collection an exemplary game.

To get a taste of what the game could potentially look like, a video that Naughty Dog released last year demonstrated gameplay footage of Uncharted 3 at 60FPS. Make sure to select the option in the youtube video settings to 720P or 1080P at 60FPS.

[youtube id=”SumXU-uI_4A”]

18406132776_f0660dc276_z (1)

You can pre-order the Nathan Drake Collection now, both physically and digitally. Either way, you’ll be granted some pre-order bonuses that include an assortment of new single-player outfits and weapons. The big news, however, is that pre-ordering will also grant you access the the upcoming Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta. No details on when that’ll launch, though we do expect it either late this year or early next before the game arrives.

Also, its still unclear whether or not the collection will actually include the multplayer components of 2 and 3 only because the post made by Naughty Dog only mentions single-player. We’ll be sure to update the post as soon as confirmation surfaces.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection Revealed By Accident

Looks like the long-running rumors about an Uncharted collection coming to the PlayStation 4 were very true. Last night an accidental hit of the publish button on the mobile PS Store confirmed the existence of the collection.

CGotSyfWcAAOuEv

Since Uncharted 4 was delayed to 2016, many speculated that Sony would fill this gap with a remaster of Uncharted 1 through 3. This turned out to be true as the leaked revealed last night, along with creative director at Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann.

No word on when the collection will release, though we assume it’ll be sometime this fall to replace the original launch of Uncharted 4. We will most likely hear more about this possibly later this morning, or in the next month at E3.

So what do you guys think? Excited to replay the whole Uncharted series in glorious 1080P and 60FPS? Hopefully the multiplayer is thrown in there, and our guess is it may even have Beta entry to the Uncharted 4 multiplayer. Though, that’s just a guess and wishful thinking.

Thanks, Gamesepresso

Gears of War Developer Announces New Studio Name, The Coalition

Gears of War development studio Black Tusk Studios has officially rebranded itself The Coalition, according to Studio Head Rod Fergusson.

“Beginning today, the Vancouver-based Xbox team working on the Gears of War franchise will be known as The Coalition,” he said in a special edition Rodcast.

The name represents “a team of diverse individuals working together for a common purpose, a concept that we feel describes our studio quite well,” he added. “Fans will also recognize the Coalition of Ordered Governments (COG) from Gears of War lore.”

“When people hear 343 Industries, they associate it with Halo; when they hear Turn 10 Studios, they know that’s who makes Forza. Moving forward, when you hear The Coalition, we want you to think of Gears of War.”

You can see the new logo and its new “chainsaw” animation in the video presentation above.

The studio’s new Gears of War project will debut during Microsoft’s E3 media briefing at 4PM Pacific on Monday, June 15, though we’re pretty sure we already know what it is, or at least part of it.

Visceral Explain’s Battlefield Hardline’s New “Bounty Hunter” Game Mode

Along with new maps, weapons, vehicles, and masks, Battlefield Hardline’s upcoming Criminal Activity DLC will drop a brand new game mode into the mix that developer Visceral Games is calling “Bounty Hunter.”

According to a description provided by the studio, it sounds like it will play out awfully similar to a mode you might have played in some of the more recent Call of Duty games called Kill Confirmed. “When a player is taken out a team-colored coin is dropped in the world by their body,” says Visceral. “When an enemy coin is collected it is added to your team’s score. Friendly coins can be collected to deny the enemy the ability to score your team’s coin. The first team to collect enough enemy coins to hit the limit wins the match.”

The studio went on to provide a better idea of how some of the new maps will play out when Criminal Activity launches later this month, first for Premium subscribers.

“The size and scope of maps offered in Battlefield Hardline: Criminal Activity allow for a variety of play styles and provide an excellent playground for this new mode,” Visceral explained. “In Black Friday, set in a Miami shopping mall, tight hallways and focused chokepoints provide excellent routes for run-and-gun players. Code Blue and The Beat, offer a blend of close quarters and medium range engagements that complement the new selection of battle rifles. Add an Angled Foregrip and a 4x Optic and you’re ready dominate at longer ranges in the hills of Backwoods. Just make sure you bring ammo, Bounty Hunting season is open.”

Last week, the studio dove into new Police and Criminal masks for each of Hardline’s four agents and what gameplay benefits they provide. You can read all about it here, if you missed it.
