Call of Duty: Ghosts Nemesis DLC – Subzero Map Video Preview

In Nemesis DLC, Infinity Ward is brining Call of Duty: Ghosts’ signature, fast-paced gameplay to Canada on a frigid submarine base that’s been mysteriously abandoned.

The studio calls it a medium-sized map with a unique field order, “the Beast,” that you’ll want to try to avoid at all costs if it doesn’t happen to be friendly. Check out the official video preview above.

If you pay attention, you’ll also notice some new improvements to Ghosts that are already live on PC and will likely arrive soon for consoles around the launch of Nemesis. You’ll now notice colored hit markers that turn bronze when landing the killing blow on an enemy. We’ll have official patch notes as soon as they are available.

If you missed it, you can also catch yesterday’s video preview for Goldrush right here. Expect more videos to follow leading up to Nemesis’ release on August 5 first on Xbox Live.

These Destiny Beta Stats Will Blow You Away, Most Simultaneously Played Bungie Game Ever

Earlier this week, we learned that over 4.6 million gamers played the Destiny Beta on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. But that can’t be the only set of stats that developer Bungie has locked away in their studio. In fact, no, it isn’t.

Via Bungie’s latest Weekly Update, the studio has unleashed more stats than you would probably ever want to know about the beta in this nifty info graphic:

beta_infographic_fullThat’s a lot of numbers and a lot of gamers who are probably dying to continue their journey in Bungie’s brave new world when Destiny launches this September 9.

As for Bungie’s favorite stat: “At its peak, the Destiny Beta became the most simultaneously played Bungie game of all time,” wrote community manager David “DeeJ” Dague. “There were more people online at the same time to play Destiny than any other game in our history. The Beta was more played than even final versions of previous Bungie games. You joined forces to populate the last safe city on Earth, and blew our minds.”

Congrats, Bungie!

Lastly, here is the player emblem all gamers who participated in the beta will receive when Destiny officially launches:

PC Arena Shooter From Reakktor Studios, Toxikk, Is Bringing FPS Back to 1999

German-based developer Reakktor Studios is taking an old school approach to their upcoming PC arena shooter, Toxikk.

No classes, no levelling system, no regenerating health, no cover system, and no reloads, Toxikk is a step back and yet a step forward for arena shooters. Check out what the developers have to say about the game on their official website.

“TOXIKK plays as if today’s military shooters never existed. The game combines the simple and intuitive mechanics of old-school FPS giants with a fresh setting, slick graphics and our vision to carefully evolve the genre with some new ideas elaborated with Arena-FPS enthusiasts.

“Designed as a spiritual successor to the fast paced arena shooters of the late 90s and early 2ks, there is no leveling, no skill-trees, no perks, no cover systems, no classes, no configurable weapons and no iron sight aiming.

“Instead you get fast and precise movement (with deeply configurable mouse controls), double jumps, dodge jumps, booster pick-ups, nine iconic WEAPONS to be carried around simultaneously, secondary fire modes for every weapon, vehicular game modes, jump pads, health-packs, lots of vertical gameplay, optional mutators (incl. instagib) and everything else that made these kind of games so addictive. And if you want to practice your skills offline, TOXIKK also features a configurable BOT MODE.”

You’ll even find links to the game’s weapons, maps, vehicles, and background elements.

Reakktor plans to give Toxikk an Early Access launch on Steam this Winter. Keep your sights on MP1st for more details, as we’ll surely be keeping ours on this shooter.

Check out the debut trailer above and tell us what you think in the comments!

Behold, The Exclusive Battlefield 4 CTE Camo and Core Gameplay Patch No. 16

It appears that developer DICE LA, who is now in charge of the health and well-being of Battlefield 4, is rewarding participants of their Community Test Environment with an exclusive soldier camo.

Called “CTE Specialist,” the camo appears all black. You can see it in the image below, courtesy of DANNYonPC:

Bt_XDzMIEAAWskI

The CTE has been producing some pretty positive test results for Battlefield 4 since its inception last May, a number of which have already been applied to Battlefield 4 and are event trickling over to Visceral Games’ Battlefield Hardline, launching early next year.

Currently, the test environment is now entering its second initiative with Core Gameplay Patch 16 for Premium users on the PC who decide to take part. According to “undeadpixels” on the Battlelog forums, it contains a number of weapon balance updates, as well as Battlefield Hardline beta crash fixes and system improvements that are now being introduced to Battlefield 4.

Check out the full notes below, courtesy of Reddit user pm_me_spread_legs (via @antal120):

Core Gameplay Patch 16

This is what is included in this patch:

    • Preround READY state Now based on players connected, should be dynamic now. Needed players per team is now controlled by the preround player count, otherwise player can get stuck in the spawn screen.
    • Visual Recoil & Sight Improvements Shrunk the red dot size a notch to match previous size.
    • TEST: Added first pass CTE Camo Initial creation of the potential reward for our most eager testers we’ve now added this camo. It is currently a duplicate of the DICE camo, but will be tweaked to more clearly show what faction you are playing as – and be based on a lighter grey color instead of the black. This is not the final state of this camo, just the first step. The way to unlock this later will be announced further down the line.
    • Added fix for the dual class exploit Where you are able to combine two classes at spawn
    • Hainan Resort: Decreased terrain destruction along beach near US base
    • Paracel Storm: Added blocks from swimming below the carrier on Paracel
    • UI Triage Minimap Icons: option to set minimap icons to auto scale with the minimap scale; moved the minimap scale text slightly up so it doesn’t overlap the commander messages Hud World Icons: icons zoom support for vehicle zoom.
    • WEAPON/GADGET BALANCE

Goal: With the changes to visual recoil, head flinching and netcode weapons have become deadlier and kills faster. Tune weapons to take this into consideration and find clear roles for them in doing so.

A large amount of guns had some small changes made to them. I am trying to not go too crazy at first as so many moving parts could create a problem.

I’d like to get some blind feedback on these changes so I will not be describing every tweak right now. I’m sure symthic will post the info eventually, or I will after some initial feedback.

Most of these changes are based on community/pro feedback that I thought was a great starting point. Here is a list of what has been tweaked, some buffs and some nerfs. None of these changes will be reflected in the stat bars or text descriptions as of yet!

Heavy Barrel, Muzzle Brake, MP7, P90, JS2, L85, AWS, RPK74, RPK12, SR2, AR160, QBZ951, UMP9, PP2000, A91, SG553, AKU12, Type95B1, G36C, CZ805, M60E4, 1911, HK45C, RFB, ACE21, SCAR-H, Bulldog, ACE52, DEagle, FAMAS, F2000, AUG, MTAR, MPX, CBJMS, Type88

This effort is far from over so give it a good test and I’ll be looking for everyone’s feedback. I am also still waiting for some new code jjju is working on to remove the flinch-bug and finish up the changes to suppression.

Again, these aren’t changes that will make an appearance in the core Battlefield 4 experience, but are just some of the improvements DICE LA are testing with participants of the CTE.

We’ll be sure to let you know when we hear more about Battlefield 4’s next official update.

No Man’s Sky Will Come to PC After All, Just Later

The procedurally generated open-world of Hello Games’ exploration title No Man’s Sky will come to PC, just after it’s timed-exclusive duration on the PlayStation 4 has run its course.

The eye-catching sci-fi fantasy game that made an impression during this Summer’s E3 was heavily marketed as a PlayStation 4 title with no clear indication of whether or not it would make an appearance on any other platform. According to Hello Games’ Sean Murray, it was always intended to come to PC.

“I actually got in a bit of trouble for saying that we wanted the game to feel really console-y,” he said to Edge Magazine. “We’ve always had PC in mind but in my head (console-y) means solid framerate and immediate controls. I think a PC game can be ‘console-y’ and it’s intended as a compliment, but I get in trouble for saying it.”

We’ll have to hang on for exact details surrounding the game’s exclusive presence on PlayStation 4.

No Man’s Sky is on course to a 2015 launch. We learned earlier that in addition to it’s core gameplay experience, it will also offer a dedicated multiplayer mode of sorts that we’ve yet to learn more about.

Thanks, IGN.

Destiny – High Level Gameplay With a Level 29 Titan

Bungie Sandbox Design Lead Sage Merrill provides a better picture of what high level Destiny gameplay might look like.

In this build, Merrill’s Titan is rank 29 and has enough high level weapons and gear to survive the apocalypse. He also boasts some seriously devastating abilities that can be altered in the menus to better suit different situations. Of course, not everyone’s Guardian will look or play the same, but the video offers a good look at what you can expect once you start running on all cylinders during Destiny’s end game.

Speaking of which, we learned a little more about Destiny’s end game activities yesterday, including details on and Nightfall Strikes and Raids which Bungie’s Luke Smith said will “demand of you things you’ve never even really been asked to do in a shooter before.” Scary stuff!

Watch the high level Titan gameplay above, courtesy of IGN, and tell us your thoughts in the comments. What Guardian class are you planning on running with when Destiny launches?

Destiny is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on Sepember 9.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Gameplay – Check Out Nisha The Law Bringer In Action

After getting an extensive look at Athena and Wilhelm, two of the four playable characters in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, 2K Australia and Gearbox Software have decided to share some gameplay footage of the third playable character, Nisha The Lawbringer.

From the looks of it, Nisha will be a pretty interesting character to play as, considering her action skill Showdown automatically aims at the critical points of enemies while granting numerous buffs across the board.

Additionally, some of her capstone skills are pretty unique. Unforgiven and One Fer Each Of Ya plants a bomb inside those she shoots during Showdown, resulting in exploding enemies via a detonator once her action skill is over, and allows her to dual wield pistols, respectively.

You can catch the gameplay above, courtesy of GameSpot.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is slated for an October release for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Nemesis DLC First Trailer, Launches August 5, Shipment Returns

Call of Duty: Ghosts Nemesis DLC is coming August 5 to Xbox Live and developer Infinity Ward has launched a brand new trailer to show you what it’s all about.

Four new maps, along with a brand new Extinction experience, are once again being offered in Ghosts’ fourth and final expansion that will cost $14.99 for non Season Pass holders. Fans of the hectic Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare map Shimpent will get a kick out of “Showtime,” a reimagining of Cal of Duty’s smallest map ever.

Here are the details from the press release:

Goldrush

“Goldrush” is set in an abandoned gold mine in the Southwest United States, where an intricate network of cavernous tunnels and perilous shafts create the ideal setting for medium to long range combat; while two mine carts race along the abandoned tracks offering players a fast way to traverse the map. Players who complete the unique field order on Goldrush will unleash a howling pack of wolves that will descend upon their enemies.

goldrush

Subzero

“Subzero” drops players into a frigid Canadian submarine base that has been hastily evacuated, with control room, submarine pen and research facilities all left eerily empty. Built around the traditional three-lane design, this medium-sized map harbors a mysterious terror that will decimate your enemies upon completion of the map’s unique field order.

subzero

Dynasty

In “Dynasty,” players are transported to a lakeside Chinese village surrounded by picturesque mountains, vivid gardens, and spectacular architecture – a serene environment that is anything but Zen-like. Multiple pathways crisscross the village in this medium map with a variety of elevation and numerous back alleys that create flanking routes. The unique field order on “Dynasty” allows players to call in an air strike of vertical takeoff fighter jets, while one lingers behind to give you unmatched air superiority.

dynasty

Showtime

Nemesis cranks the frenetic multiplayer action to unprecedented levels with the fourth multiplayer map, “Showtime,” a sadistic reimagining of the smallest map in Call of Duty® history, the fan favorite map from Call of Duty® 4: Modern Warfare® “Shipment.” In the futuristic arena of “Showtime,” blind corners and narrow pathways provide momentary reprieve from the outright mayhem within the central square comprised of several shipping containers. Tight confines call for shotguns and SMGs. Survive long enough to be rewarded with one of three killstreaks: lethal automated gun turrets at key locations on the map, an air drop with multiple care packages or a deadly gas attack that forces the action back into the center of the arena.

showtime

Extinction Episode 4: Exodus

Closing out the final DLC Pack for Call of Duty: Ghosts is the dramatic conclusion in the Extinction narrative, “Episode 4: Exodus.” Following the CIF Unit’s harrowing escape from the alien underworld and the successful recovery of Dr. Cross and the cortex, the team has flown in to fight off the Cryptid army’s siege of the last bastion of human resistance. Your mission is to get key personnel to safety by restoring power to the shuttle and launching the shuttle to a low earth orbit space station.

“Episode 4: Exodus” gives players unprecedented control of their escape route – choose your path, gather new intel, craft new weapons – and introduces the deadliest of enemies with a range of lethal powers, including mind control and psionic attacks – the Ancestors. As the battle for our survival draws to a close, the fate of mankind is in your hands.

exodus

It will be interesting to see how a map like Shipment holds up in today’s Call of Duty. What are you most looking forward to in Call of Duty: Ghosts’ final DLC?

New Unreal Tournament Team Deathmatch Gameplay Shows Off New Weapons and Levels

Unreal Tournament for PC, Mac, and Linux is shaping up beyond some of the level and character concept art fans were briefly treated to last week.

Epic Games has recently launched a brand new developer diary that shines some light on the work the studio has been up to with Unreal Tournament and the game’s Team Deathmatch mode.

According to senior designer Nick Donaldson, pretty much all of the weapons have been implemented thus far and the studio also has “a couple of really cool levels.” Gameplay programmer Joe Wilcox says that, right now, Epic is really focusing on zeroing in player movement.

You can watch some of the off-screen action in the video above. Check it out and tell us what you think about it so far. Are the memories coming back ?

Sony Says EA Access Doesn’t ‘Represent Good Value To The Playstation Gamer’

Yesterday, we reported that Microsoft had scored a deal with publisher Electronic Arts to bring Xbox Live members on Xbox One EA Access, an exclusive subscription service costing $5 a month or $30 a year that comes loaded with benefits like full game access and early game trials. Today, we learned that Sony, on the other hand, doesn’t think it holds good value for their customers.

In an E-mail sent to GameInformer, Sony says “We evaluated the EA Access subscription offering and decided that it does not bring the kind of value PlayStation customers have come to expect, PlayStation Plus memberships are up more than 200% since the launch of PlayStation 4, which shows that gamers are looking for memberships that offer a multitude of services, across various devices, for one low price. We don’t think asking our fans to pay an additional $5 a month for this EA-specific program represents good value to the PlayStation gamer.”

Our Take – It seems a bit parental of Sony to decide what’s good for its own customers. Gamers might not always make use of certain features at first, but if there ever comes the time, it’s always nice to have it available from the get-go.

Plans can always change down the road, but for now, PlayStation users will have to hang tight. Are you a PlayStation owner? Do you think you could have made use of EA’s new service?

EA Access is now in beta for Xbox One update preview members.

Destiny’s End-Game Raid Will ‘Demand of You Things You’ve Never Been Asked To Do In a Shooter Before’

Bungie means business when it comes to Destiny‘s end game activities.

According to Bungie’s Luke Smith, Destiny’s end game “begins as soon as you see the way the story ends.” Starting at around level 20, you’ll be sent back into the wild after Destiny’s main story line wraps up and presented with a couple of new options, including Raids and Nightfall activities.

Raids are “extremely crafted,” six-player challenges that are only open to attempt with friends, Smith told IGN. Bungie won’t support public matchmaking because an activity like the Vault of Glass is not something you’ll want to attempt with complete strangers and a lack of communication. You’ll need to get comfortable working with some of your most trustworthy allies for a couple hours in order to best what the Raid has to throw at you.

The activity is going to take you and your group of five buddies into a place that you’ve never been,” says Smith. “A place that you will return to frequently. And [it will] demand of you things you’ve never even really been asked to do in a shooter before.”

Raiding in a shooter is a bit of a new thing, so Bungie is keen on leveraging what the studio has learned from games like EverQuest and World of Warcraft while injecting challenges and activities better suited to an action game.

“One of the things we certainly haven’t talked about is that [raids aren’t] an activity that we expect you to get through the first time through,” Smith added.

“Unlike a bunch of the other activities in Destiny, where you begin the activity – like let’s say you pick the level-22 Strike playlist – everything in that activity is going to be level 22. It’s going to be consistent. If you’re level 26, you’re going to have some relationship to it. You’re going to be more powerful than that activity. In a raid, when the raid begins at level 25, it’s not where it ends. Like part of going the raid is the journey of gearing up; building your arsenal to react to the situations that it’s going to ask you to go through.”

Smith unveiled that, like Strikes, a Raid in Destiny will culminate in an epic boss battle, as is traditionally the case in classic MMO Raids.

“I think that we’ve given people a taste in Strikes of what the bosses are and what they can do,” he said. “The raid bosses are different: they’re still big monsters, much like what you’re going to see, they’re still scary, but they have a bunch of abilities that are unlike anything you’ve really experienced in a shooter before. And I don’t say that to be a douchebag and I don’t say it because it’s a cool bullet point, I say it because when we were building this thing there was nothing that any of us could go home to play to try and learn from. I mean we were – as we were going – building and learning and failing along the way to find cool mechanics and occasionally we’d succeed.”

If it’s not Raids that will keep out busy, Destiny will offer a number of noteworthy daily and weekly challenges.

“Nightfall activities come in two flavors: daily and weekly. They have extremely exotic rewards,” Smith Explained.

“We want to have activities that occupy the range of challenge for you. So if you’re a fresh level 20 you can play the Nightfall daily activity at level 22 and it’s going to be hard. It’s going to be challenging. But you can get through it, maybe. Maybe if you have some friends. The weekly Nightfall activity is something that pushes all the way out as far as the leveling allows you to go in Destiny. So it ends up occupying at the far end of the spectrum: this extremely high gameplay investment challenge. Like it’s both the toughest guys we can throw at you that’s going to require the best gear, and it’s going to have a bunch of modifiers on it that make it even harder.”

Long story short, it sounds like there’ll be plenty to keep you busy after hitting that level 20 milestone. Hopefully, you’ll have a handful of willing friends to take a long for the ride. If not, you’ve got a couple of hours to make some during your adventures.

Destiny launches on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on September 9.
