Dragon Age: Dreadwolf Teaser Trailer Shows Off the World of Dredas; Full Reveal Coming Summer 2024

In honor of Dragon Age Day, BioWare has released a new Dragon Age: Dreadwolf teaser trailer to get us hyped for the next game in the fantasy RPG series. The teaser shows us all sorts of different locations from the game’s world and teases a full reveal next summer.

You can view the teaser here:

During the teaser, we can hear several voiceovers from different characters, each speaking to the nature of their respective factions. We get a glimpse at the city of Antiva, and we also hear a line of dialogue from a member of the Grey Wardens. Long-time fans of Dragon Age will likely recognize several of the locations shown off as well, whether they’ve appeared in previous games or are showing up for the first time.

The teaser ends with the announcement that the game’s full reveal will arrive in Summer 2024. There’s a chance that this reveal will be at Summer Game Fest, though it’s just as likely that EA will opt to do their own event and reveal it there. Only time will tell.

If you’re excited for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, check out the latest news we received about the Mass Effect team stepping in to aid production on BioWare’s other RPG project.

Stellaris Nexus Early Access Pushed Back to Dec. 12; Beta Kicks Out Tomorrow

Space diplomats, peacekeepers, and dictators, we bear some bad (and some good) Stellaris news. Paradox Interactive and Whatboy Games have announced that Stellaris Nexus early access will not start tomorrow, as its release has been slightly pushed back to next week. Though all is not bad, an open beta will be made available instead, featuring everything the early access has, plus you get to keep your progress.

While this isn’t great news, the fact that you’ll get to try the new Stellaris game out for free before it drops in early access is actually a better-case scenario than initially planned. All of the scheduled launch content will be available in the open beta, and as mentioned, your progress will even carry over into early access.

Stellaris Nexus Key Features:

  • Hour of Power – Time is a valuable currency in our everyday lives and we all know how much time a really good 4X game can take to complete. Stellaris Nexus is a multiplayer turn-based 4X clash for galactic dominance, played from start to finish in about an hour!

  • Social Strategy – Choose from unique factions and leaders and play with up to 5 friends in turn-based multiplayer, or brave the Nexus online against strangers through skill-based matchmaking. Form unlikely alliances, execute bitter betrayals, or quietly plot from the shadows to take the victory!

  • Race to Nexus – Starting from the safe haven of your homeworld, rapidly expand your reach across the galaxy to explore and occupy new systems to eventually take control of the galactic Throneworld: NEXUS!

  • Diplomacy – Military conflict and diplomatic dealings are available to you as you expand and explore, but so is the power struggle that plays out in the Galactic Council. Rival empires exert their influence to cast votes in favor of new titles and resolutions that empower their faction or advance their immediate strategic objectives.

  • Unique Factions and Leaders – Whether you’re a roleplayer that wants to immerse in the universe of Stellaris, or you’re a ‘by-the-numbers’ strategist, ‘select from factions and leaders that alter how you approach each match that you play, offering a range of playstyles and ways to gain the upper-hand over your opponents.

Once Stellaris Nexus releases in early access on December 12, it’ll cost $14.99 via Steam.

GTA 6 Reveal Trailer Length Will Clock in at 1:30 Minutes

In case you didn’t know, Rockstar Games is ready to finally reveal the next entry in the video game juggernaut franchise, Grand Theft Auto, tomorrow, December 5. For those wondering if it’ll be a fly-by trailer, we can confirm it’s not, as the GTA 6 reveal trailer length has been unearthed and it shows it will run for more than a minute!

This was revealed via the official YouTube app that shows the following:

Image

Unless a lot of it involves a countdown, then chances are very high that we’ll see actual gameplay, or at the very least, something more than just the title flashing across the screen.

Hopefully, this will put things to bed when it comes to rumors, fake leaks and whatnot. Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow at 9 am ET/6 am T/10 pm HKT for the official reveal of Rockstar’s upcoming entry in the franchise.

Will we get a release date or window? I certainly hope so, but I won’t be holding my breath for it.

Thanks, PlayStation Game Sizes!

Made player movement smoother and more responsive:

  • Automatic vaulting and climbing during dash should now be more consistent.
  • Fixed an issue where shooting was blocked while falling after an air dash.
  • Double tap dodge/dash can now be performed while another directional input on keyboard is held (resulting in a diagonal dodge/dash).
  • Fixed an issue where sprint was canceled by double-tap dodge/dash.
  • Fixed an issue where slides did not fully execute when playing with the Dynamic Control Scheme on a controller.
  • After crafting an item with the Active Chimera Core or Cerberus’s Decoded Behavioral System Component, the crafting specs required will disappear from the Crafting panel.
  • Players who completed all of Regina’s gigs prior to Update 2.0 will have the Neofiber cyberware they received as a reward replaced with Axolotl.
  • Stats from arm cyberware will now be applied correctly regardless if they are drawn or not.
  • Fixed an issue where V’s HP wouldn’t drop below 25% due to BioDyne Berserks’s effect remaining active permanently. Please note that this fix is not retroactive, as it won’t affect cases where this issue already occurred prior to 2.1.

Vehicles & Traffic

  • Opened the previously closed-off highway that spans Westbrook, Santo Domingo and Heywood.
  • It is now possible to lean while riding bikes. Use LShft/LCtrl on keyboard or Left Stick on a gamepad to make the rider lean – Up to lean forward, or Down to lean back. Leaning only changes your Center of Mass. Lean back and apply the gas to do a wheelie, lean forward and apply the brake to do an endo. Changing your Center of Mass changes how much traction you have at either end. Lean forward a little mid corner to induce oversteer, lean a little back to induce understeer. In the air, lean forward/backward to do flips, steer to do spins!

Depending on your selection you can customize other options, e.g. enable Dynamic Resolution Scaling.

  • Added support for Samsung HDR10+ GAMING for NVIDIA GPUs. To enable this feature, your display has to support the technology and have the “Game Mode” enabled. The HDR10+ GAMING toggle can be found in Settings in the Video tab.

Console-specific

  • [Xbox] Fixed an issue where a “Save failed – insufficient space” popup would appear when trying to save despite not reaching the save limit.
  • [Xbox] Added a new error message that will appear when Phantom Liberty is installed on an unsupported drive.

Misc

  • Fixed a crash occurring when trying to reach the second sniper in Play It Safe.
  • It will now be possible to properly interact with the radio in V’s apartment in Megabuilding H10.

CyberConnect 2 has released Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R update 2.30 (PS5 version 2.310), which is for patch 2.3.0! This includes character balance changes and gameplay improvements. Check out the full All-Star Battle R patch notes for December 4 available below.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R Update 2.30 Patch Notes | Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R Update 2.310 Patch Notes | Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R Update 2.3.0 Patch Notes:

Assists

Assist Cooldowns

  • Further reduced the cooldown after using an Assist for characters with fewer uses of Assault Assists or Reversal Assists.
    • Improves balance between Assists with different numbers of uses.

Assault Assists

  • Made Assists turn to face the opponent after they have entered the arena and are beginning their attack.
    • Improves usability in neutral and in combos.

Number of uses

  • Changed the following characters to 3/1 uses:
    – Wamuu
    – Esidisi
    – Pet Shop
    – Rohan Kishibe
    – Kosaku Kawajiri
    – Bruno Bucciarati
    – Leone Abbacchio
    – Trish Una
    – Ermes Costello
    – Weather Forecast
    – Father Pucchi (Final)
    – Johnny Joestar
    – Funny Valentine

    • Brings these more in line with other characters. (Allows them to be summoned more readily.)

Assist skill changes

  • Will A. Zeppeli: Now uses the Hamon version of “Tornado Overdrive.”
Narancia Ghirga: Added more shots. (Now fires shots as the strong attack version with repeated button presses.)
Guido Mista: Now fires 6 shots.
Ikuro Hashizawa: The effect of “This is Baoh!”” now applies “”Break Dark Thunder Phenomenon.”

    • Brings these more in line with other characters.

Common

Recoil animation on ground

  • During the single frame of transition between recoil and neutral positions, it was only possible to guard or Stylish Evade. Now, other actions (normal attacks, skills, dodge, jump, etc.) are allowed.
    • This was unintended and has been fixed.

Recoil animation when launched upward

  • Adjusted hurtboxes of characters with raised hurtboxes after being launched upwards and then falling back down.
    • Closes gap between some characters who are harder than others to combo additional attacks on.

Recoil animation when launched by attacks that prevent aerial recovery

  • When an airborne opponent is hit with an attack with a crumple recoil animation, it normally results in being launched with no possibility of aerial recovery. This state is no longer overwritten by an aerial-recoverable flying state, e.g. on hit from an aerial normal.
    • This was unintended and has been fixed.

Recovery from attack animations

  • When Stylish Guard is input in the period just after an attack animation where only guard and Stylish Evade are permitted, Stylish Evade will now be performed.
    • This was unintended and has been fixed.

Jumping Movement

  • Eliminated inconsistencies between characters in the position of the hurtbox at the feet.

(Standardized so that the hurtbox exists below the feet on frame 1, and not from frame 2 on.)

  • Ensures that imbalances between characters are not exacerbated by a common mechanic.

Counters

  • Fixed so that damage adjustments apply to combos that are initiated from counters.
    • This allows a successful counter to be comboed from in order to build up damage while keeping them balanced with other combo types.
  • Fixed issue where the model of the countered character would turn black when hitting the opponent from behind with a jump attack that is successfully countered.
    • This was unintended and has been fixed.

Mounted

Mounted Mode style switch

  • Fixed aerial recovery occurring when hit by a Reversal Assist or an action that prevents aerial recovery while changing to or from Mounted style.
    • This was unintended and has been fixed.

Quick Mount

  • Stopped hitbox from spawning when hit by an attack just before entering a no-knockback state. (A mounting character would produce the hitbox even if they had entered recoil animation.)
    • This was unintended and has been fixed.
  • Stopped Mounted Mode from ending if hit by an attack after entering no-knockback state.
    • This was unintended and has been fixed.

Specific recoil animations while mounted

  • Being hit by some attacks while mounted while cause a recoil animation and end Mounted Mode.
    – Normal throws: Can now hit. On hit, will automatically Throw Escape into aerial recovery launched state.
    – Skill throws: Can now hit. On hit, the skill will take full effect.
    – Down attacks (sweeps): Now cause a launched recoil animation that allows aerial recovery.

    • Adds more universal ways to end Mounted Mode, which adds options to do so for characters that didn’t have many before.

Crytek Gives Brief Update on New Crysis Game; Studio Has a “Great Team” Working on It

Would you believe It’s been over two years since Crytek announced a new Crysis game was in development? I can’t believe it either, though that may be due to the lack of news. They did have an announcement earlier this year, seeking to hire more developers on the project, but it’s been pretty quiet outside of that. Well, we don’t have much to share on that front either, but for anyone wondering, the project is still in development.

Speaking to MP1st in a chat regarding Crytek’s Hunt: Showdown, David Fifield, General Manager of the studio, has provided a very brief update on the project.

Alright, last set of questions. I know we should stick to Hunt Showdown, but our readers won’t forgive us if we don’t ask about Crysis 4. What’s happening there? It’s been over a year since we last heard from it.

David Fifield: Crysis 4 is currently still in development and we have a great team working on it! We will update once we have more details on it down the line.

I know it’s not much to go on, but it’s still good news for all those Crysis fans out there.

As for when we’ll see it, that’s anyone’s guess. It may have been two years since the development announcement, but that’s not a lot, especially for a title that many would consider a major one. Not to mention all the technological advancements we’ve had since Crysis 3 dropped over a decade ago.

Not to put pressure on the studio, but I’m sure many are looking forward to seeing just how far they can push visuals, as Crysis 1, even to this day, is regarded as one of the most realistic games. I know some aspects have aged, but it’s still quite impressive for a game from 2007.

I expect we’ll hear more on it sometime next year, but I’m not against a surprise reveal during The Game Awards this year. One can dream, right?

Fortnite Lego Game Experience, Rocket Racing, Fortnite Festival Launching This Week

Last October, Epic Games and Remedy Entertainment teamed up to bring a new gaming experience for Fortnite that saw players venture through the story of the first Alan Wake game. It was a small experience that proved just how insane Fortnite has evolved over the years. Well, it seems that the Epic isn’t quite done, as soon players will be able to try out a new Lego game within Fortnite, along with a racing and music rhythm game starting this week!

Fortnite Lego Game Experience Trailer:

Is this even Fortnite anymore? It’s absolutely insane how far the game has come. Read on for a brief summary of what each experience is about.

About each experience:

LEGO Fortnite

LEGO Fortnite is the ultimate survival crafting LEGO adventure. It introduces vast, open worlds where the magic of LEGO building and Fortnite collide. Designed for people of all ages to enjoy together, the game will encourage creativity, experimentation and collaboration through play.

Rocket Racing

Rocket Racing is a supersonic arcade racer where players drift, fly, and boost with friends through an ever-growing selection of tracks. Rocket Racing is developed by Psyonix, the visionary team behind Rocket League.

 Fortnite Festival

Fortnite Festival is a new music game where players can play in a band with friends or perform solo on stage with hit music by their favorite artists. Built by Harmonix, the studio behind the iconic music game Rock Band, the Festival marks the beginning of music gaming in Fortnite.

The Weeknd will kick off Fortnite Festival Season 1 as the game’s first Music Icon when the game goes live with a Teen rating.

You can check out the three experiences in the trailer below.

As for when these game experiences will go live, Lego Fortnite arrives on December 7, Rocket Racing on December 8, and Fortnite Festival, an experience by Harmonix (Rock Band) on December 9.  The Weekend will kick off the festival, with more musical acts expected throughout the coming year.

At the growing rate that Fortnite is going, I’m going to take a wild guess that, at one point, we’ll be able to fully feature-length games within the game. Crazy, sure, but did anyone ever expect the experiences above?

You can check out what’s new in the Fortnite v28.00 patch notes that ushered in Chapter 5 Season 1.

Will you be checking these out when they are released?

New Street Fighter 6 Costumes Prices Rack Up More Than the Game, and Fans Are Upset

Capcom has just released the latest costume pack for their most recent fighting game, and fans are not happy with it. The new Street Fighter 6 costumes in Outfit 3 contain 18 new outfits for the game’s roster, and the cost to grab every single one might come as a bit of a shock.

Each of the game’s new outfits is on sale for 300 Fighter Coins, which is Street Fighter’s in-game currency. There’s no way to obtain these skins other than outright paying for them, and they’re not available as a bundle. That means that in order to get every single skin, you would have to spend 5,400 FCs.

The next step is figuring out how much Fighter Coins cost in real-world currency. As it turns out, you can buy them in packs of 250 (£3.99/$4.99), 610 (£9.49/$11.99), 1250 (£18.99/$23.99), or 2750 (£39.99/$49.99). What this means is that in order to buy just one skin, you need to spend at least £8/$10, which would also leave you with 200 FCs to spare. This isn’t enough to afford a second skin.

Adding it all up, then, it would cost at least £80/$100 to get every single skin. That’s more expensive than the game itself, or even the game’s Deluxe Edition, which includes the Year 1 Character Pass. This price is obviously exorbitant, and fans have taken to Reddit threads and tweets to share their frustration with these prices:

Do NOT buy the costumes

Needless to say, this seems like a pretty scummy move from Capcom. They’ve been making all the right moves so far with Street Fighter 6, so it’s surprising to see them fumble here. These skins should at least be available in a single-priced bundle, if nothing else. We hope that Capcom makes adjustments soon.

New DualSense Patent by Sony Mentions AI Assistance Features

A new Sony controller patent filed at the end of November suggests that the company might be looking to create a new AI-assisted version of the Dualsense for PS5. This new controller would give players controller-based hints through light-up face buttons.

The patent, which was filed on November 30, details a version of the Dualsense which has buttons that light up. The lighting of these buttons would be determined by a predictive AI learning model that would light up each button when the player should press it in order to progress in-game. This could help players who keep finding themselves stuck in particular parts of an experience.

Additionally, the touchpad on this new Dualsense would actually be a screen display, which could also spell out hints directly. This is the second time a patent has been filed featuring a touchscreen in place of the touchpad. This feature could have pretty extensive functionality if it’s ever actually implemented.

Whether or not these features ever actually make their way into a Sony controller remains to be seen. Still, the patent itself is a clever idea that could make gaming on PlayStation a little more accessible.

The last Sony patent we covered had to do with NFT trading, though we expect that they’ve likely abandoned that idea since. You can check it out here.

JOIN THE FIGHT IN FORTNITE BATTLE ROYALE CHAPTER 5 SEASON 1: UNDERGROUND!

12.3.2023
The Fortnite Team

Chapter 5 of Fortnite Battle Royale brings a beautiful new Island, but not all is what it seems. “The Society” is pulling the strings in secret, and they’ve taken Peely in their spite. Join “The Underground” and take down The Society’s bosses — including its most notorious boss Valeria. To help you out, take the Island’s train, modify your weapons, and use a “Ballistic Shield” while shooting a pistol. Join the fight in Chapter 5 Season 1: Underground!

NEW SOCIETY, NEW SIGHTS

The page has turned to a new Chapter, so what direction to turn to? There’s the chaparral biome in the west, containing the classy Ritzy Riviera marina. Looking for something more remote? Venture to the northwest’s boreal forest where the abandoned Rebel’s Roost mansion lies.

Down south in the center of the Island is the grassland biome, whose pristine views are seen by train passengers traveling to Grand Station at Reckless Railways. Take the train to get to various parts of the Island!

Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter 5 Season 1 Train

That’s the center and the west, now for the rest. In the east are the boreal tundra and boreal snow biomes, comprising the high alpine Hazy Hillside village and elaborate Grand Glacier Hotel. Here’s a look at just some of the Island’s locales:

Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter 5 Season 1 Screenshot A

Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter 5 Season 1 Screenshot B

Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter 5 Season 1 Screenshot C

Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter 5 Season 1 Screenshot D

Snow is in more than just the boreal snow biome during the first part of the Season. Fitting for the upcoming Winterfest 2023, the boreal forest and boreal tundra are covered in snow too!

HIGH SOCIETY: DEFEAT BOSSES FOR SOCIETY MEDALLIONS

Across the Island are five bosses: OscarNishaMontagueValeria, and also Peter Griffin from Family Guy. Each boss will drop a Society Medallion once defeated. Keep a Medallion in your inventory for your Shield to regenerate over time! The more Society Medallions in your inventory, the more Shield that will regenerate with each tick.

Fortnite Society Medallions

You can’t get to the top without making enemies on the way — if you have a Society Medallion in your inventory, you’ll be marked on opponents’ map, and the more Medallions you have, the more precise the radius of your exact location.

FORGET THE PATH WITH THE TRAILSMASHER

The road too mundane for you? The train too predetermined? Go off-roading with the Grandeur Trailsmasher SUV and explore the Island your way!

Fortnite Trailsmasher

Don’t take the beaten path, be above it with a luxury ride.

SPEAKING OF CARS…

You’ve equipped Outfits, Back Blings, and more — now get your engines ready for something new: Cars! Give your gameplay cars a fresh new look with this cosmetic category.

“Cars” is a new section in players’ Lockers. Cars are built with three new types of Locker items: Car Bodies, Decals, and Wheels. All players have the OEM Wheels from Rocket League in their Locker right now! With a Car Body and Wheels, you have all you need for a Car. Car Bodies, Decals, and Wheels grant no competitive advantage.

Fortnite OEM Wheels

So once you have a Car assembled, what do you do with it? Enter a Sports Car in Fortnite Battle Royale or an applicable creator-made island, then watch it turn into your equipped Car! The Sports Car will keep the look of your equipped Car the entire match, even if you exit it and someone else enters it. To start out, players can transform only one Sports Car per match/gameplay session.

For all the Rocket League fans out there, the OEM Wheels aren’t the only Rocket League item in Fortnite. If you own the Octane, Cyclone, Jäger 619, or Lamborghini Huracán STO Car Bodies in Rocket League, you also own them in Fortnite! (Just make sure you’re playing Fortnite with the same Epic Games account you use to play Rocket League.) You also own certain Decals and Wheels you may own in Rocket League.

Fortnite Octane Car Body

Car Bodies will soon be available in the Fortnite Shop via bundles that include other Car items. There’s also a Car Body in the Battle Pass…

SCORPION CAR BODY

The Big Bang Battle Pass has an unlockable Car Body! Give your Sports Car the ready-to-strike Scorpion. The Battle Pass also has unlockable Decals for Scorpion’s exterior.
Fortnite Scorpion Car Body

GO BALLISTIC… SHIELD

Enough windshields, now just shields. Pick up a Ballistic Shield which includes a pistol, then defend yourself with the shield while shooting the pistol at the same time! The Ballistic Shield has infinite Health, but it can only withstand so much damage before it’ll temporarily be knocked from in front of you.

Fortnite Ballistic Shield

The shield itself is also a weapon — charge into enemies to deal damage and knock ‘em back! Your enemies in hiding? Charge into a building piece to wear it down and make your unwelcome entry.

ISLAND ARSENAL

The Ballistic Shield is just one of the new weapons in Chapter 5. Want your new suite of SMGs, ARs, and more? Chapter 5 introduces the Hammer Pump ShotgunFrenzy Auto ShotgunNemesis ARStriker ARThunder Burst SMGHyper SMGReaper Sniper Rifle, and Ranger Pistol:

fortnite-battle-royale-chapter-5-season-1-new-weapons-b.jpg

GRAPPLE BLADE

While others party at Ritzy Riviera, study the blade. Fortunately, the Grapple Blade is pretty simple. Aim at a hard surface or another player, then grapple to your target! If you grapple to a player, attack with the blade to deal melee damage. Get enough practice with the Grapple Blade to pull off masterful maneuvers!

Fortnite Grapple Blade

Also a great mobility item, use a Grapple Blade if there’s no car around.

CLUSTER CLINGER

This explosive explodes explosives. Throw a sticky Cluster Clinger on a surface or player, then after a short delay, watch it pop out smaller explosives. Cut and run when someone throws a Cluster.
Fortnite Cluster Clinger

MODIFY YOUR WEAPONS

“Customize your loadout” now has a whole new meaning. Located in vaults are Mod Benches, which have mods available for many weapons in exchange for Bars. Add mods that reduce recoil, increase mag capacity, and more! Save up your Bars wisely, though, as not every mod works with every weapon.

Fortnite Weapon Mods

You don’t need a Mod Bench to wield a modded weapon. In fact, most mod-compatible weapons are already modded! If it’s of Uncommon rarity, it’ll already have one mod. If it’s of Rare rarity, it’ll have two mods. Epic rarity, three mods. And Legendary, four. If you want different mods than the ones that came with your weapon, you can still replace them at Mod Benches in exchange for Bars. Experiment with different combos to see what’s best for you!

Mod-compatible weapons aren’t for sale from Characters or Vending Machines, so keep your eyes peeled for loot.

FLOW-T ON

The new Island yields a new fruit! Upon consumption, a FlowBerry will recover a bit of your and your nearby teammates’ Shield. FlowBerries are best eaten before a jump, as they also grant you and your nearby teammates a temporary low-gravity effect (with fall damage immunity).
Fortnite FlowBerry

A MEDKIT MIRACLE AND SHIELD POTION SURPRISE

Medkits and Shield Potions have changed! Both restore the same amount of stats as before, but the way they do it is different. They now start restoring immediately, and you can now move slowly while they restore. Be a sitting Quackling no more with these two items. But take note: you won’t be able to cancel once you start restoring with these items, so use them wisely!
Fortnite Medkit and Shield Potion Update

REVIVE, REBOOT, THRIVE

Reviving and rebooting got a renovation! When you’re reviving a teammate and accidentally move out of range, the revive timer will slowly go down instead of hard reset. Rebooting works the same way — the reboot timer will slowly go down if you move out of range, not hard reset.

Fortnite Reviving and Rebooting Update

Also, only one squad can use each Reboot Van at a time. If a squad eliminates or scares away the current squad, they can continue the current reboot timer to quickly reboot their teammate!

GAME, SET, MATCH QUEST

Besides going for the dub, what goal do you wanna go for in your next match? Chapter 5 Season 1 gives you that choice with Match Quests! At the beginning of each match, you’ll be presented a choice of three Match Quests that expire at the end of the match. Match Quests replace Daily Quests to give you the ability to pursue what you want to accomplish while having less distractions in battle.

Fortnite Match Quests

Match Quests are personal to each player, and squadmates cannot contribute to their progress. (Match Quests are tuned to be completable by a single player.) You will have Bonus Goals that reset each day to reward you additional XP for completing Match Quests.

BUILDS TO SCALE

There’s a new way to scale enemy structures! Walls built by players now have a plank for propelling yourself upwards. Keep an eye out for these planks in the environment too!

IMPROVED ANIMATIONS

Enjoy smoother gameplay thanks to more fluid and detailed animations! Players on all platforms will experience Motion Matching and Procedural Layering in Fortnite Battle Royale. These are features that result in improved animations for things like transitioning from walking to running, changing directions, and using a weapon.

Additionally, Fortnite Battle Royale players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC will experience Physics Based Animation! With this feature, Gliders in action will have more detailed animations.

Motion Matching, Procedural Layering, and Physics Based Animation require no setting to be enabled — jump right into a better-feeling battle!

THE UNDERGROUND AND SOCIETY COLLIDE IN THE BIG BANG BATTLE PASS

In the Big Bang Battle Pass, unlock rewards in Fortnite by earning XP across Fortnite Battle Royale, creator-made islands, and the upcoming LEGO® Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival! The Big Bang Battle Pass is purchasable for 950 V-Bucks and has Outfits, the Scorpion Car Body, and more. Earn up to 1,500 V-Bucks back by progressing in the Battle Pass!

Should EA Follow Call of Duty’s Developer Cycle for Battlefield and Release Spinoff “Sub” Franchises?

Once upon a time, another studio took a crack at making a Battlefield game, but it didn’t turn out as fans had hoped. Since then, DICE has continued to be the primary studio leading the franchise, with support studios helping along the way. We think it’s time for that to change, as EA could learn a bit from Activision’s Call of Duty franchise regarding Battlefield development.

I want to clarify: I do not want a Battlefield game released yearly. It’s not what I’m referring to, BUT I will talk more about that, as it’s hard not to talk about it. So, what exactly do I mean?

Developer Cycle, Not Release Cycle

For the last 20 years, Activision has released a Call of Duty annually, rotating the games from one series to the next. The mainline has usually been Modern Warfare and Black Ops, with a third being a one-off from a specific era.

Activision has accomplished this by having not just one studio work on the franchise but three main ones: Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer Games.

Every year, we see a new game from one of the studios, with alternating releases. Last year was Infinity Ward, this year Sledgehammer, and next Treyarch. That’s typically the cycle for Call of Duty releases, with this year being the exception of a direct sequel following the previous title. But beyond that, Call of Duty players could always experience a new take on the franchise as each studio attempts to bring something fresh and unique to their release. They might share the same name and core gameplay, but the Black Ops franchise differs from the Modern-era games, as do any World War Call of Duty.

It’s pretty exciting, and as a player, it gives me something to look forward to. Maybe I’m not a fan of this year’s release, but I can always look forward to next year as it’s a different studio with a different take.

Disregarding the release scheduling (for now), I think EA can learn a lot from that approach, but there are also some issues. Let’s first talk about the “good” first.

Why This Could Be a Good Thing (Plus, They’re Already Planning On Doing It)

Let’s face it: More often than not, Battlefield has launched in a highly buggy state. Fans fondly remember Battlefield 3 and BF4 as the best ones in the series, but they were buggy at launch too. There were some exceptions, such as Hardline (not by DICE and more on this later) and Battlefield V. But outside of those two, the Battlefield franchise is pretty much known to have buggy games with a fix-it-later mentality. Fans have come to accept that as expected in releases, which isn’t a good thing to be proud of.

Battlefield 2042 is a recent example, though that game had other issues it needed to overcome that went beyond just your usual gaggle of bugs and server issues. Mind you, it is in a better state now, but it took two years to get there.

But looking at the scope of these games, DICE always tries to one-up itself, offering bigger maps, more players, weather, etc. Remember Levolution? What about the insane level of graphics that Battlefield 1 and BFV had? I know Battlefield 2042 was a step back for many, but even there, the studio tried something new, offering some of the biggest maps in the franchise and supporting the highest number of players on them so far.

DICE’s ambitions are big with every release, yet it always seems like that gets overshadowed by the state those games are in. From a fan perspective, DICE could use more time between releases. It’s common in all Battlefield games and even EA’s Battlefront games, where it’s ship now, fix it later, with most of these games improving much later. The community jokes about these games feeling like early access titles at launch, and they aren’t wrong, but by the time they usually hit what many feel should have been their actual launch (in a stable state, etc.), support is nearing its end.

So having another studio work on another, possibly spinoff, Battlefield, could prove beneficial if it meant more time given to the studio.

Battlefield Developers

This does appear to be the approach that EA is starting to build, as Ridgeline Games, a new studio formed in 2021, is leading a new single-player experience for Battlefield, with Ripple Effect also working on a new Battlefield experience, while DICE is working on the next big multiplayer experience for the franchise. But the question becomes, will these all be under one unified title, or will EA allow these studios to release each of their takes on their own?

I hope for the latter, as that could bring exciting things to the franchise. Specifically, more “spinoffs.”

While Battlefield is mostly known for its large-scale battles, the Bad Company series brought a take that many loved. That was full-scale destruction. It may have had smaller maps than what most are used to today, but that level of destruction — being able to flatten any building on the field — made it feel on par, if not bigger, than most Battlefield maps. The amount of things that could happen, that level of dynamics, made every match unpredictable as anything could happen.

However, it’s been 13 years since the last Bad Company game, and for whatever reason, EA never did follow up with a third game.

That’s where having multiple studios can come in, as DICE can continue to focus on the mainline franchise while another studio works on a series that can eventually become a mainline. When you think about it, you don’t look at Modern Warfare and Black Ops and go, Modern Warfare is the main series, with Black Ops as the spinoff. No, most will refer to Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty or Treyarch’s Call of Duty. They both, and any other Call of Duty games, coexist.

That has allowed some freedom in the games to do things the others can’t or won’t. We would have never gotten a zombie mode if Treyarch was forced to stick to the formula. Advanced Warfare and Infinite Warfare would have never happened either. I know those two latter examples have players divided, but it’s cool that something like that was allowed or happened for a franchise.

I’m aware that EA tried to do this with Battlefield Hardline, but that was an idea that may have been too radical for many fan base, even if I liked it myself for what it was.

That’s why it works with Call of Duty because, you know, no matter the idea, it’ll still probably feel like a Call of Duty game at the end of the day. Bad Company may have shifted the focus of large-scale battles in favor of medium- to small-scale battles, but the fanbase can agree that it was every bit of a Battlefield game as any other.

Building a rotation of developers could open up the franchise to games that are familiar but have their twist.

Imagine this: we get a mainline, traditional Battlefield, and for the next year, we get another Battlefield game, but this one is a faster-paced, maybe more of an arcade shooter (I can hear the screams already). This is akin to what we presume EA originally wanted to do with the rebooted Medal of Honor franchise, though that didn’t take due to the idea being half-baked, and of course, the Medal of Honor reboot didn’t exactly set the sales charts on fire.

With Vince Zampella now heading the Battlefield property at EA, I can’t think of a better person to lead this “sub” franchise of Battlefield that focuses on a faster pace than one of the people who introduced the Call of Duty multiplayer juggernaut (for those unaware, Zampella, along with David West, were the founders of Infinity Ward before departing and starting Respawn alongside other IW vets).

There are better directions out there, of course, but I think having multiple Battlefield games that feel familiar but are different enough is neat. Think about it: with how Battlefield 2042 launched, players were begging DICE to move on to the next one, but seeing that they were the only studio doing the games, moving on wasn’t exactly a good business option. We were stuck with what was there and will probably be for the next year, potentially longer if the next Battlefield doesn’t release next year. Again, the game is much better than it was at launch, and I’m glad DICE stuck around with it. But we could have had another Battlefield under a dev cycle by now.

This would also help players warm up to the idea of “spinoff” games that are different because if you dislike one year, then there’s always the next year or so franchise game to look forward to, and from a different studio.

Battlefield Developer Feature Image (2)

Not to mention the extra time a studio like DICE may get in between releases since the other studio would help fill that release gap.

I’m not saying they would launch in a perfect bug-free state, but having multiple studios doing their Battlefield would be a perfect way to offer more development time for each game. If the expectation is that these games will last 2-3 years, with a new one dropping at the end of each, that would mean longer development. So instead of 2-3 years, the games could get 4-6 years if they each maintain the 2-3 year release timing. That extra year would go a long way for polishing.

Other benefits include developer knowledge. Since DICE made the Frostbite engine, they have the most experience with the engine, but having another studio learn its inner workings could offer insight that could be beneficial to all the studios. Frostbite could get years of improvements with more teams working on it, which is already happening with the engine branching out to other games published by EA.

Why This Could Be a Bad Thing

But of course, the main issue with this is the franchise’s quality might suffer. One might argue that this has happened with the Call of Duty franchise. There’s also brand saturation, which might occur, though I doubt that given Call of Duty’s popularity hasn’t waned, and one can throw in yearly sports games to the mix.

There’s also the chance or inevitable possibility of a studio “crunching” (an industry term used negatively when it comes to development) to hit these yearly/bi-yearly releases. Now more than ever, crunching is frowned upon by the industry and could turn away quality talent from EA’s Battlefield studios.

However, even with all the negatives, the fact that each one still sells millions of copies is enough for Activision to do it. EA will want to follow suit once they get a taste of that annual deluge of money. But EA doesn’t have the brand that Activision has with Call of Duty, which affords them a lame release now and then. Hardline came and went, never to be touched or mentioned again.

I wouldn’t want a new Battlefield game every year because the series has always hit differently than other shooters, and I feel it can stretch that longevity out.

Ultimately, though, it does seem like there are more positives to trying this route than just leaving it off the table. For all we know, EA might be planning this now. With the number of studios working on the upcoming entry in the franchise, you can tell EA still puts a lot of stock in the Battlefield name (as they should), even if recent years have shown otherwise. I’m all for what they have planned for, just as long as the games feel good and work off the feedback the series has received throughout the decades.

Fallout TV Show Teaser Trailer Released and It Looks Radioactively Awesome

After three long years, Amazon has finally opened the vault doors to their Fallout TV show. What’s inside, you ask? Well, the show’s first teaser trailer, and a lengthy one at that. Watch the Fallout TV show teaser trailer now!

Fallout TV Show Teaser Trailer

Yeah, this looks absolutely stunning, though is that much of a surprise when it has the director of West World behind it and the studio that brought The Boys? Let’s just hope that the quality of the series is up there, as while the trailer looks good, the same can be said about many other projects.

Either way, we like what we’re seeing, as it is clear that the studio and director are big fans of the franchise. And if this was considered the teaser trailer, how long will the full trailer be?

About The Fallout TV Show

Based on one of the greatest video game series of all time, Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. 200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind — and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird and highly violent universe waiting for them. From executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, the creators of Westworld, and starring Ella Purnell, Walton Goggins, Aaron Moten and more.

The Fallout TV show will debut exclusively on Amazon Prime, on April 12, 2024,

Sharkmob Games New Game Debuting at The Game Awards

Sharkmob Games, the studio behind Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodhunt, has announced that they will be debuting their new game on December 7 at The Game Awards.

Sharkmob is developing a new game with Level Infinite doing the publishing duties. This news came today via YouTube announcement, with a warning of an impending storm.

There’s not much to go on from the video outside of that short teaser, but they did confirm that they’ll announce the new game next week during The Game Awards show.

Sharkmob previously worked on Bloodhunt, a battle royale set in the Vampire: The Masquerade universe. Sadly, support for content ended earlier this year, though the servers have remained active, maintaining a small active player base

I found the game to be pretty fun, though it being a battle royal in a very crowded market probably didn’t help it much, as many were, and still are, invested in other offerings at the time.

This will be the studio’s second game, with a  third in development that is also currently unannounced. We likely won’t hear about that one for a while, as the focus will be on this new game.

So, do you have any guesses on what this new game from Sharkmob might be? Sound off in the comments below.

Did they release a new hotfix for Patch 5? Just turned on the PS5 and it started downloading? Maybe it fixes the crashes I’ve seen people posting about?
