After 5 Years From Release, a New Titanfall 2 Gauntlet Record Has Been Established

When Titanfall 2 launched, players one-upped each other by posting how fast they can run the Gauntlet mode in the game. Well, it seems that after five years of being available, a new Titanfall 2 Gauntlet record has been recorded, and it’s a super brisk 11 seconds!

With Titanfall 2’s sudden re-ermergence with players, Check out the video below by Cash_Mayo where we see the runner use grenades to properl themselves forward! It’s insane levels of skill, and you can watch it all unfold:

NEW Gauntlet World Record!!! (11.1)
byu/Cash_Mayo intitanfall

Now that’s one fast Pilot! Will someone be able to beat this? I honestly can’t say, but give it time, perhaps someone might think of another idea how to? Of course, the person who are the fastest, get their time in the spotlight by having their name on the Gauntlet mode’s record wall.

Got a cool gameplay video or something? Let us know by emailing us, and we might feature it on the site.

Resident Evil Village Ada Wong Cut Content Features What Could Have Been

With Resident Evil Village hitting gamers’ hands yesterday, it seems some stuff that were left on the cutting room has been revealed. The Deluxe Edition of the game included an art book, which features franchise anti-heroine, Ada Wong.

In the art, we see Ada as a masked character in the game, and someone who wouldn’t look out of place in Bloodborne. Before diving in, note that we’re not talking about any spoilers regarding the game, and the news below isn’t considererd spoiler-ish given she isn’t in it at all.

In another shot we took, this is the part of the game where Ada would have appeared — if she was in it:

Our review of Resident Evil Village should be hitting the site soon. If you’re playing on PlayStation platforms, don’t forget that cross-gen saves are a thing, which you can learn more about here.

Note: Please do not talk about the game’s story beats in the comments, as we’ll auto delete any comment we consider spoiler-ish.

Thanks, Momiji!

Final Fantasy 7 The First Soldier Closed Beta Now Open for Pre-Registration

Prepare to join the ranks of SOLDIER and fight your way through some epic battles, as Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy 7 The First Soldier’s closed beta is now open for pre-registration — allowing fans to sign up and prepare for the multiplayer game set in the FF7 universe!

Players who would like to sign up can do so by checking out this Google Play link, which will be there until May 28.

If you’re new to The First Soldier, here’s the details from the press release on Square Enix’s upcoming battle royale prequel to FF7.

In FINAL FANTASY VII THE FIRST SOLDIER, players will embark on an intense battle royale experience where they must fight to be the last SOLDIER standing. To do so, players will use magic and special abilities along with ranged and melee weapons to triumph on the battlefield. Players can choose between various styles, such as Warrior, Sorcerer or Monk, each of whom boast unique special abilities. In addition to other SOLDIER candidates, players must also contend with ferocious monsters who inhabit the outskirts of the city. By defeating them, players can gain experience needed to level up and unlock new weapons. Classic FINAL FANTASY elements abound in the game, such as rideable chocobos, powerful espers, including Ifrit, to summon and materia, which enables players to cast devastating spells. Players can customize their characters’ outfits and accessories, obtain various weapon and vehicle skins, emotes and more to create their own unique SOLDIER.

If you missed it — legendary FF7 director Tetsuya Nomura talked about The First Soldier, FF7 Ever Crisis, and the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade for PS5 a couple of months back, which you can read about here.

Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier Closed Beta will be held from June 1 to 7.

Future Yakuza Games Will be Turn-Based After Yakuza: Like a Dragon’s Success

The future of Sega and Ryu ga Gotoku Studio’s Yakuza games will be turn-based moving forward, as series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi, and producer Kazuki Hosokawa confirm that the franchise will be sticking to that gameplay style after Yakuza: Like a Dragon’s success.

Speaking with IGN while talking about the series, Nagoshi and Hosokawa explained why the series has transformed more into an RPG style game.

“The Yakuza series has been transformed into a turn-based RPG. On the other hand, over the year, Ryu ga Gotoku Studio has accumulated resources and know-how of making flashy and exhilarating action games that are effortless to enjoy. We decided that we should let our signature action gameplay live on through Lost Judgement.”

The Judgement series is a spin-off franchise that still retains the fun action gameplay that made the earlier Yakuza games so beloved by fans. Read our review about that here, and just recently its sequel Lost Judgement was announced — and it be coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One on September 24.

If you want to see why Yakuza: Like a Dragon was such a runaway hit with its turn-based RPG formula, do take a look at our review for this awesome Yakuza spin-off series here.

      • Player highlighting in the Crucible now has colorblind support.
  • Sublcass Tuning
      • Hunters
          • The freeze detonation from Silence & Squall has been reduced from 12m to 8.5m in radius.
          • Enemy Squall now has a red ring to define area as it approaches.
      • Titans
          • Shiver Strike melee energy is now refunded when Glacial Quake ends.
          • Fixed an issue in which players can trigger Whisper of Torment by standing in an opponent’s Barricade.
      • Warlocks
          • Shadebinder
              • Bleak Watcher Aspect now grants two fragment slots.
          • Chaos Reach
              • Fixed an issue with Chaos Reach Super that was allowing it to penetrate some thin walls or objects enough to damage and kill opponents on the other side.
Regarding future tuning plans, we also wanted to pull a word from Sandbox Discipline Lead Kevin Yanes:
Kevin: Hey all!
The Sandbox team is working on a slew of tuning updates over the next few Seasons. We’re aware of key points of feedback in PvE and PvP. In update 3.2.0, we have a few minor changes to Stasis Hunters and some bug fixes that you see above. Here’s a quick list of some key places we’re actively looking at for the future: Stasis Freeze, Slow accuracy penalties, and Whisper of Hedrons. We will share more with you soon.
Now, back to the patch notes preview!
Nav Mode (Menu that appears when pulling out your Ghost)
  • Separated Bounties from Quests in Nav Mode.
  • All Bounties now appear in Nav Mode. They can no longer be tracked as a result.
  • Category switching on keyboard and mouse can now be controlled with the scroll wheel.
  • Tracked Triumph now appears in its own Nav Mode category.
UI
  • Legends added to the Director Destinations tab.
      • This is where you’ll find Vault of Glass in just a few weeks…
  • Shortcut between HUD quest step notifications and quest details screen added for keyboard and mouse users.
  • 6v6 Crucible activities have an updated intro experience.
      • Cycle through your teammates to view metrics associated with the activity you’re entering.
H.E.L.M.
  • H.E.L.M. now appears in the Director Destinations tab (moved from Tower map) and has its own map.
  • Focused Umbral Engrams and Prismatic Recaster
      • Umbral Engrams now auto-decrypt when Focused via the Prismatic Recaster.
      • The visual states for focusing options on the Prismatic Recaster have been streamlined to reduce visual clutter and confusion.
Glory, Valor, and Infamy
These changes are a precursor to some larger improvements planned for Season 15 (e.g., introducing Vanguard reputation, rebalancing Infamy to bring a reset in-line with Valor, and more). We’ll have more information on those changes in a few months!
  • Glory, Valor, and Infamy reputations have had their internal systems rebuilt to a unified implementation. In-game, players should expect minimal perceived changes.
      • Unified Glory, Valor, and Infamy rank reputation tracking.
          • Before Forsaken, Glory and Valor had only Major ranks (Guardian, Brave, etc.).
          • After Forsaken, Glory and Valor gained sub-ranks (Brave I, II, III) alongside Infamy. However, all the historical tracking (Lifetime Ranks) and quest usage still used the original Major ranks.
          • Now, the sub-ranks are now referred to simply as Ranks, and all usage has been converted to use them where appropriate. (I.e., all lifetime values and quest targets have been multiplied by three.)
      • Glory playlists no longer block Valor win streaks from declining.
      • The Valor badge now appears on the Trials launch screen.
      • Infamy win streak bonus is now linear (+35 points per win).
      • Glory win streak bonus is now linear (+20 points per win).
          • Note: With the eventual update to Vanguard reputation, players should be ready to spend their Vanguard Tokens during Season of the Splicer.
Eververse
  • Eververse Archive Filtering
      • Players can now easily filter the offerings in the Storefront Archive tab.
      • Per numerous community requests, we added many Exotic weapon and armor ornaments from previous Seasons to the archive tab.
  • Bright Engrams
      • Spawn FX and Shaders are now standalone items in Bright Engrams.
          • Bright Engrams can no longer decrypt into duplicates of these items.
      • A small amount of Glimmer will be awarded when decrypting Bright Engrams.
General Things…
  • Momentum Control and Team Scorched have returned and will be available as part of the weekly playlist rotation.
  • Added repeatable bounties to Shaw Han in the Cosmodrome.
  • Fixed an issue causing Vaulted gear to erroneously drop from strike-unique loot lists.
  • Added a full suite of Trace Rifle-focused armor mods to the game.

Same as always, once the patch is out, we’ll let our readers know.

Returnal Review: In the Loop

As a child I spent an absurd amount of time (and money) in arcades. On trips to the mall with my mom, she would send me off with a handful of quarters and I would spend the entire trip there – out of my mom’s hair – sinking quarter after quarter into my favorite cabinets trying to get better and better at the games. Dying didn’t mean much because I had extra lives and more quarters. It’s no secret that the way arcade machines made money was through being difficult and addictive enough to get people like me to keep putting money into the machine just to get a little further than we did the time before, and it’s this central concept that is the essence of Housemarque’s first AAA title and PS5 exclusive, Returnal.

I’m Still Right Here, Where I Always Was

Drawn to a strange yet familiar signal coming from the alien planet, Atropos, ASTRA pilot Selene attempts to land on the planet and crashes. While exploring the planet in hopes of finding the source of the signal, Selene comes across her own corpse. Shocked yet undeterred, Selene heads further into the surface of the planet and dies. She awakens back at the crash site, and soon learns that death is not the end for her, and she keeps returning back to the crash site every time she dies. She also discovers that the planet changes every time she returns.

Full disclosure, Returnal is the first “roguelite” I’ve ever played. While I would have loved this concept as a kid who had infinite amount of time, as an adult, the notion of losing progress and doing it all over again wasn’t appealing. However, Returnal just looked too good to pass up. And I’m glad I didn’t because Returnal, with its pitch perfect combat and mobility, expertly realized risk vs reward set of systems, is easily one of the best games I’ve ever played on a purely gameplay level. However there are some unfortunate caveats that at the time of writing this, hurt the overall experience.

In all honesty, the story was the least interesting part of Returnal for me. It’s well written, well acted, and well presented. It just didn’t do it for me, as these moments are dragged out and interrupt the fast pace of the game, and it was pretty clear what happened relatively early as well. They aren’t nearly frequent enough to seriously hamper the whole experience but it’s worth mentioning that every time I just wanted to get back to the action.

All You Need Is Kill

What hooked me on Returnal was the impeccable controls. Combat is fast, responsive and hectic, but almost always manageable. Enemies have all manner of attacks ranging from beautiful but deadly projectiles to close range lunge attacks, both do incredible damage which means mobility is key to surviving, sometimes even more so than what weapons you have. Dashing gives you invincibility frames so you won’t take damage dashing through an attack. Many times I used this to reposition myself to get around an enemy and either melee attack them or simply empty my gun into them as the adjusted to my maneuver. Once killed enemies exploded in glorious fashion leaving Obolites to be collected; even then I had to move fast or they would disappear.

The nature of roguelites and Returnal specifically is that when you die, you will have to explore the maps (biomes) again. Returnal uses a certain degree of procedural generation for the biomes which not only shuffles the rooms, and the order you progress through them but also the items you will find within. This means success is greatly tied to randomness and luck. A few runs had everything going in my favor while other times nothing would. A large chunk of my 13 total deaths (including the time I was supposed to die towards the beginning) was due to being extremely unlucky with what I was finding in those runs and the enemies I had encountered. It can be extremely frustrating because even the most nimble of players can’t always overcome what is essentially a bad roll of the dice. Still, the gameplay loop was so addictive I would keep pushing on, hoping that the next cycle would swing back around in my favor. Oddly enough, I only died on two of the five bosses and it was only once each. Thankfully, you can run through a previously completed biome again and again without having to fight the boss each time. This is a great way to build up momentum in your cycle so you can go to the next boss with a pretty healthy build.

Personal RNGesus

Since in Returnal I am perpetually at the mercy of RNGeesus, I experimented with different weapons until I found one I loved – the Electropylon Driver. This thing shreds enemy health bars. It fires pretty fast and shoots electric pylons that can be tethered together and create an electric web that does damage over time. What I would do is shoot two or three into an enemy, and usually that would be enough to watch their health bar quickly dwindle till they were dead. For larger enemies, I would shoot them and the ground creating an area where they would be essentially trapped for a moment while a chunk of their health bar got eaten away. And this thing absolutely destroys bosses. It’s more of a defensive weapon for sure, but it’s the one I found the absolute most success with. Your mileage will vary depending on how you like to play.

Every weapon has certain traits specific to each weapon that can be unlocked by getting kills with that weapon while other traits are shared. Not every trait will be available based on the random nature of the game and each run, so you will need to unlock them as you repeat loops. Some of these traits I have never even seen on my runs so it will definitely vary from player to player. The shared traits will be unlocked across all of the weapons.

For Returnal, not all progress is lost. You will get key items that stay with you on each cycle. Namely items and abilities that allow you to access previously unreachable areas of each map such as a grappling hook that you can use to catapult yourself across chasms or pull yourself up to specific ledges. Additionally there is a currency called “ether” that stays with you as well, and can be used to cleanse malignant chests, and even activate a device in the current biome where I could respawn with all of the upgrades I acquired on my current run. Ether can be also be traded for the temporary currency, Obolite or to get items from a device at the crash site.

What you don’t keep are your health upgrades, artifacts that give buffs, healing items, weapon proficiency and for that matter, your weapons save for the starting pistol.

Plan in the Moment

As I mentioned before, Returnal risk vs reward is integral to success. Since everything is random, I would find artifacts in the game that gave me bonuses to my weapon damage, grant more health when healing, and even items that will revive you on death so you get a second chance a la Sekiro. The risk comes from parasites and malfunctions. The parasites give both a pro and a con. For example, there is a a parasite that will also resurrect you on death but the con is your integrity (health) will take a massive reduction when this happens. Another can be that it will give you more time to collect Obolites that enemies drop upon death but will also drastically slow down your dash and melee cool downs. There are way too many permutations to list them all here but I found myself quickly deciding if the bonus I would get from a parasite was worth the hit I would take somewhere else.

Malfunctions are another beast entirely. Basically these are negative affects you get from interacting with malignant items. Sure you might get a sweet bonus or weapon but you can also get a debuff that lowers your healing capacity by 30%. Once you have a malfunction (keep in mind, only two malfunctions at a time can be active so interacting with malignant items after that can destroy a random artifact in lieu of getting another malfunction) you will need to fulfill a requirement that is listed underneath what the malfunction does. These can be as simple as using a consumable or has hard as using a key which may or may not spawn on in the current cycle/biome for a while). Learning to manage these malfunctions and deciding if they’re worth the risk or not will greatly increase the chances of success.

More Than a Feeling

It can’t be understated how greatly Returnal takes advantage of PS5’s features. The 3D audio works incredibly well on headphones, which saved by bacon many times by giving me a near precise location of where an enemy was and how close they were. It also helps with collectables as they each give off a sound when you’re in proximity. Coupled with the music score that is both haunting and intense, sometimes simultaneously, the auditory experience is fantastic.

Then there is the implementation of the DualSense controller. From the use of the haptic feedback that gives little pings from rain drops falling, to the satisfying feeling from firing weapons, to the implementation of the adaptive triggers for alt-firing, all coalesce to deeply immersive experience.

Patchwork

Unfortunately, for all that Returnal does extremely well, there are some nagging issues that brought the experience down for me a bit. Namely the bugs. By now many already know of them but for the uninitiated, Returnal suffers from some bugs that will do anything from forcing you to have to restart your cycle to – in some cases – wipe your entire save meaning you will have to do everything again. That means all of your permanent upgrades, as few as they are, will be lost. You’ll have to fight every boss again, etc. Thankfully I didn’t experience the save file loss, but I did get stuck in two rooms with no way out and both were on lengthy runs which means I wasted hours of my time through no fault of my own. For a game that is so polished in other areas, these bugs really do put a damper on things.

Bugs can be patched and my subjective dislike of the pace killing story sequences notwithstanding, Returnal is a great game and showcase for the PS5. It reminds me of what I have aways loved about video games; gameplay that hooks you and keeps you invested in that “one more quarter” kind of way that so relatively few games do these days. Housemarque largely succeeds with their first AAA outing in a big way and have released what I feel is the first true Game of the Year contender for 2021.

Score: 8.5/10

Pros:

  • Impeccable combat and mobility make for a highly addictive gameplay loop
  • Everything is gorgeous, especially the projectiles enemies try to kill you with
  • 3D Audio and DualSense implementation is fantastic and immersive
  • Risk vs reward is very satisfying

Cons:

  • Story segments slow the pacing
  • Bugs that force you to end your current cycle

Outriders Damage Mitigation Clarified, Citing New Patch Fix

Players looking to check what the latest updates are towards Outriders damage mitigation can rest easy, as developer People Can Fly and Square Enix have updated the topic thread citing a new patch fix is on the way.

Here’s the latest from the notes shared by the developers on this issue via Reddit and how they’re going about fixing it.

  • We believe we have identified one of the core underlying reasons for lack of the damage mitigation in certain circumstances. We are compiling and testing a new build with this fix included, but doing so will take a bit more time and the final roll-out will be dependent on it being successfully tested/confirmed as fixed. We will update you as soon as we have news.

  • While we continue to work on this matter, here are some potential Workarounds which have helped some players who encountered this issue consistently:

    • Un-equip all your armour, then re-equip it again

    • If this doesnt help, un-equip all armour, hard restart the full game (don’t just return to lobby) then re-equip the armour.

    • Un-equip all armour, change to a different character and back again, re-equip armour.

    • Using mods such as Life of the Party may help increase survivability as this mod works differently to other defensive mods.

    • Avoid tanking Brood Mothers and Alphas in particular, as they are particularly prone to the below explained one/two hit risk.

  • Explanation:

    • Once the bug occurs, all regular armour mods are much less effective, so most defensive mods are less viable.

    • The matter of instant deaths, even when they appear to be a one-shot kill, looks to be a case of two damage hits being dealt, though they are displayed as one, meaning that the one-shot kill protection mechanics don’t trigger (since they detect two damage hits).

In related Outriders news, the game’s inventory wipe restoration in group B & C have been deployed — and you can read about it here.

Outriders is available for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC.

Destiny 2 Down for Scheduled Maintenance Today May 7

It’s Friday, and while we’re used to seeing Xur come this day to sell his wares, and even the Trials of Osiris commence for new bounty rewards, that isn’t happening yet, as Destiny 2 is down for maintenance as we speak!

Why Is Destiny 2 Down?

Bungie has announced maintenance for today, which will last for five hours! This is a huge departure from the studio’s usual maintenance day of Tuesday. Here’s the announcement from the studio:

Where Is Xur Today, May 7?

As expected, Xur will be showing up today, but he will be late. Once the servers are back up, we’ll have the full Xur report ready.

Where Is Trials of Osiris in Destiny 2 Today?

Same as the answer above, given the maintenance, this activity has also been pushed back a few hours. Once the servers are back up, we’ll make sure to report on the rewards, map and more,

Once the servers are back up later at around 5 p.m. ET, we’ll update the post.

Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 PS5 Has Been Delayed, First DLC Map Free for Everyone

PlayStation fans of the tactical shooting Sniper Ghost Warrior games will have to wait just a bit longer for the next installment in the series, as CI Games has announced that Sniper Ghost Warror Contracts 2 PS5 version has been delayed — offering the first DLC map free of charge to everyone as a way to make up for that.

Here’s the whole explanation from the team on why they had to make the tough call to delay.

“We could not have foreseen these issues. However, we would like to assure our players that our highly experienced, professional and dedicated team are working hard with the platform holder and engine provider to resolve the problems as soon as feasibly possible, to ensure we can bring the PS5 community the high calibre sniping game they have been waiting for. We will offer a free digital upgrade to the PS5 version with all physical and digital purchases of the PS4 release.” – Tobias Heussner, EP, CI Games
As a way to apologize for this delay, CI Games has decided to make the first major DLC release for the game free across all versions — complete with extensive contracts and a new extensive map. Details on that will be coming soon as well.
Again while the PS5 port for Sniper Ghost Warrior Contacts 2 will be delayed, the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS4, and PC versions will still make their June 4 release date.

Lost Judgement Launches Globally on September 24, Steel Book Edition and Price Revealed

Get ready to return to the world of Judgement and play another amazing Japanese action RPG experience, as Sega and Ryu ga Gotoku Studio has announced that Lost Judgement launches globally on September 24 – with a trailer, pricing and steel book edition revealed as well!

Here’s the first footage of the sequel featuring the return of Takayuki Yagami!

Picking up where the last game left off, Yagami deals with the repercussions of a guilty verdict that was handed down in Japanese court. As a result, our hero will have to go undercover and get to the bottom of things personally — including exploring a high school setting where all kinds of story elements will come into play. The adventure will take place in Kamurucho Tokyo and Yokohama, and much like the Yakuza series, this spin-off game will be a blend of story drama, exploration, fighting, and mini games – so expect your hands to be full and plenty of things to do and see.

Here’s how the steel book edition (exclusive to Bestbuy) of the game looks as well.

According to Bestbuy, the retail MSRP is $60, which should make people happy seeing that it isn’t following the $70 trend that some games are moving to.

Check out our review of Judgement and see why that game was great and why this upcoming sequel is very much a welcome sight.

Lost Judgement will be out across the globe for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One on September 24.

New Call of Duty Warzone Update May 7 Brings Weapon Balance Adjustments

Raven Software has deployed the new Call of Duty Warzone update May 7 server-side (game settings update) patch, and it includes quite a number of weapon balance changes! Head on for the May 7 patch notes below.

New Call of Duty Warzone Update May 7 Patch Notes:

GAMEPLAY

  • Loot that spawns across both Verdansk and Rebirth Island has been adjusted as follows…
    • Streetsweeper
      • Common variant removed from ground loot
      • Uncommon variant removed from ground loot
      • Rare variant removed from Supply Boxes
      • Epic variant removed from Supply Boxes
    • Hauer 77
      • Common variant added to ground loot
      • Uncommon variant added to ground loot
      • Rare variant added to Supply Boxes
    • The Streetsweeper’s wide availability fostered a dynamic where passive play was incentivized and rewarded. We do not think this type of play is particularly compelling for either party when players do not have the necessary tools in the early-game to effectively counter it.

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed additional map locations in Verdansk that allowed players to reach out-of-bounds areas. This is on top of the locations that we addressed last week.
  • Fixed a bug causing Player models to initially load as low resolution at the start of a BR match.
  • Fixed a bug with the Cold War AK-47, FARA 83, XM4, and RPD where they were having their ADS Move Speed and Firing Move Speeds decreased with the Tactical and SAS Combat/Spetsnaz Stocks rather than increased.

WEAPONS

We would like to preface the following Weapon changes by providing you with some insight on our thought process.

There are millions of you, and when we reduce the effectiveness of a weapon, we are bound to make a change to someone’s favorite gun. As players of this game ourselves, it pains us just as much. However, we remain torn. We are the custodians of this game—we make it for you. In the same light, we are charged with maintaining the health and integrity of the game. In some instances, this requires us to reduce the effectiveness of some universally cherished weapons. When we make a change like this, our intent is the promotion of diversity. We believe what makes a game truly engaging is choice. When we diminish that choice, we take away the agency to play the game your way. This can happen when a weapon becomes so effective that simply not utilizing it puts you at a disadvantage.

With that being said, we feel we are close to a ‘balance homeostasis’ where most options are at the very least viable. Which leaves us to address Time to Kill. The following balance changes are part of our ongoing efforts to raise TTK or at least the individual skill required to reach extreme ones. We ask that you consider these changes not as targeted attacks, but rather as part of a larger initiative to raise the skill ceiling.

We want to give you the runway and the platform to show us your epic plays and proudest moments. We hope that journey of mastery brings you as much enjoyment as it does us.

  • Assault Rifles
    • CR-56 AMAX
      • Minimum Damage decreased from 32 to 31 (Warzone Only)
      • With a great damage profile, locational multipliers, and manageable recoil, the CR-56 AMAX was able to reliably reach extreme TTKs at long-range. This change reduces its fastest minimum damage TTK by about 17% in addition to its slowest minimum damage TTK by an additional shot. Its fastest maximum damage TTK however, remains intact—which is a risk we feel is equal to the reward considering how unforgiving its rate of fire is and how many other weapons it has to contest with in the mid-range engagement space. The CR-56 AMAX is just a tad more dominant than we would like it to be and with this change, our aim is to widen the selection of viable long-range assault rifles.
    • FARA 83
      • Headshot Multiplier decreased from 1.5 to 1.35
      • Base ADS Move Speed decreased by 7%
      • When combined with a mobility-based stock, the FARA 83 was capable of reaching exceedingly fast ADS firing speeds. We like how the FARA 83 plays, but it is a bit too versatile currently. As part of our efforts to increase the overall Time to Kill, we are reducing the FARA 83’s fastest TTK by 16.6% to compensate for its generous rate of fire and recoil control.
  • Shotguns
    • Streetsweeper
      • Base Hip Spread increased
      • Recoil increased slightly
      • ADS speed reduced slightly
      • While shotguns tend to have limited viability outside of early game, we find the Streetsweeper is a tad too effective given its rate of fire and ammo capacity when compared to other weapons of its class. This change will decrease its lethal range slightly, punish inaccurate sustained fire, and give a little more time to react.
  • Submachine Guns

    • Bullfrog
      • Maximum Damage decreased from 34 to 32
      • Maximum Damage Range increased by 11%
      • Base Move Speed increased by 1%
      • Sprint Out Speed increased by 13%
      • The Bullfrog’s exceptional headshot multiplier has allowed it to reach one of the fastest TTKs in the game. While this change does not directly affect that multiplier, it does diminish its output. This change reduces the Bullfrog’s ability to consistently achieve extreme TTKs, while not removing it entirely. We felt it was too easy to consistently reduce the TTK to these ranges, so we are asking for a bit more accuracy in exchange for the Bullfrog’s attractive stat line. We are hesitant to label this an outright ‘nerf’ as we believe there is more value to a weapon than its damage alone.
    • PPSh-41
      • Maximum Damage Range increased by 4%
      • Open Bolt Delay decreased by 80%
      • We would like to push SMGs in different and interesting directions to distinguish them from one another. Ideally, we are providing a myriad of options within each weapon category that are supplementary to a multitude of diverse playstyles. In that vein, we are going to push the PPSh-41’s identity in a way that continues to diversify it from its competition in meaningful ways. To us, the PPSh-41 is the quick to fire, high-capacity, short-to-mid range SMG. Not every weapon needs to have the highest TTK potential, but every weapon should at least feel viable and have a niche where it excels given a complementary playstyle.

ATTACHMENTS

  • Barrels
    • Combat Recon (Snipers)
      • Bullet Velocity multiplier increased by 12%
      • ADS Idle Sway multiplier decreased by 33.3%
      • As we continue assess the place of Cold War snipers within Warzone, we realize there is much work to be done. In addition to improving the overall efficacy of these weapons and attachments, we will also be taking a close look at their optics. This includes addressing attachment pros where there are few, if any, use cases. In specific… we may see a Cold War equivalent to an immensely popular Modern Warfare sniper attachment very soon.

  • It is crucial to maintain an engagement space where each weapon type can excel, lest we risk guns becoming analogous. In that regard, some weapon types were able to elude mobility as a core weakness given the right attachments. We believe this is in part why assault rifles have been able to assume the role of submachine guns. While it is a priority for us to maintain and embrace gameplay differences between Modern Warfare and Cold War guns, we felt movement speed modifiers in their current state would undermine gameplay integrity and overall weapon diversity if left unchecked. These stocks are still a solid choice, even with such a substantial reduction—which we believe speaks to just how strong they were.

Finally, we would like to address concerns that we are only going to be making changes to Cold War weapons. In the future, we fully intend on taking a closer look at some of the Modern Warfare weapons that have been struggling.

Now that’s one heck of a server update!
