Hideo Kojima Feels He Needs to Make More Strand Genre Games, Streaming Will Bring Big Change

Game director Hideo Kojima looks towards the future as to what is next in this new genre of games he’s calling “Strand.” Speaking during the 2019 Cologne Film Festival live panel, Hideo Kojima got asked whether he had any plans to expand on Death Stranding’s current story with future iterations. While he didn’t answer if there would be a direct sequel, he did in the least state that more games in the Strand genre would need to be made by him if he hopes to establish it as a genre.

“Well, not the world, but I want to relay the new game feeling to the user. Previously it was the Stealth Genre (Metal Gear Franchise), but this time I just kind of call it the Strand genre. And if I want to establish a real genre, I feel that I need to create more games to create the genre a genre.”

At this time, we still know very little as to what a “Strand” game is other than it revolving around connections made between players. Death Stranding will feature an Asynchronous multiplayer, meaning players will never meet one another but still be able to interact. We saw this in the Tokyo Game Show demo last month, where players were helping one another via resource sharing and other interactions. Even highways could be constructed based on the number of players using the same roads.

He goes on to explain how films and games are moving closer and closer in narrative with each new form of playable format.

He started by describing how movies drove people together to theatres, and eventually, television came out, which kept people at home. From there, it evolved into physical media such as VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, and finally, the era of streaming.

“I think storytelling will be changing in the future. Let’s look at the games, and it started as an arcade. Put a coin in for one game for only 3 to 5 minutes, so you didn’t really need storylines or plot to it. Then it became NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) and now you don’t have to go to the arcade, you could go back home and play the games. The storytelling aspect had changed because of being able to play at home, but you needed a platform. So what’s changing is streaming. So you could use your tablet, smartphone, PC screen, TV, and you could play anytime you want. So you see the films, movies, and games? They were said to be Water and Oil and never matched, but now have become both digital forming together with streaming. That era is shortly to come.

That’s the general picture, and movies and games will probably make a big change.

The panel closed off with Kojima joking about a possible spin-off featuring Nicolas Winding’s character, Heartman. For those unaware, the character dies every 21 minutes in which he then explores the other side before being revived again. While the joke was around the idea of giving fans a 21-minute at a time experience, it wasn’t far off from the general talk of the panel as a whole. Throughout the presentation, both Kojima and Nicolas discussed how the narrative has changed in both films and gaming. Sometimes in the future, Kojima believes that both mediums will eventually come together to form one.

The full panel is about an hour-long, which you can watch below. It starts roughly at the 41-minute mark.

Death Stranding will be releasing on November 8, exclusively for the PlayStation 4. Be on the lookout for our review and coverage.

Fortnite Update 2.40 Rolled Out and Here’s What It Does

While Epic Games just released a gargantuan of an update the other day with a new Fortnite update that brings in the Chapter 2 content, the developer has rolled out Fortnite update 2.40, and it’s to fix and tweak a few things. It clocks in at just 890MB on PS4, check out the Fortnite update 2.40 changes below straight from Epic Games.

Fortnite update 2.40 patch notes and changes:

Hello everyone!

We wanted to give everyone a heads up that we’ve just released a hotfix to tone down how restrictive leeching is in certain circumstances. We’ve seen some cases where players may be over restricted in matches and not receiving rewards.. even when properly participating. This fix is currently being applied and should be fully released to all players over the next hour.

Additionally, We’re going to be removing the leeching penalty from Private / Friend Matches in the v11.10 client update. This change will no longer penalize players for playing with friends, lower levels, stream viewers, etc.. as long as the match is private.

We are continuing to monitor the system and will make adjustments as needed to ensure we have a system that rewards participating players properly.

Thank you!

Given the update, this is mostly it when it comes to fixes. Mind, it’s commendable how fast Epic is when it comes to these things, so I’m not complaining.

In other Fortnite news, go check out the battle royale new map for Chapter 2 here, we also posted the roadmap for Save the World to see what’s coming down the pike.

League of Legends Fighting Game Officially Announced, Watch Our First Look at Gameplay

Riot Games celebrated the 10th anniversary of League of Legends earlier today, with the announcement that the game is coming to consoles and mobiles, and what’s more, that they’re developing a shooter based on the brand, too. However, the studio isn’t stopping there. A League of Legends fighting game has also been announced!

Revealed during the livestream, the League of Legends fighting game has no current title other than “Project L.” What we do know is that it’ll feature fighters from the League of Legend universe, and basically, that’s it. Oh, we do have an early look it though!

Riot Games has mentioned that they will be “going dark for a while after this” announcement, so would-be players shouldn’t expect any new developments soon. That said, 2020 is right around the corner, and we’re most likely going to hear more it then.

For reference, Riot Games acquired fighting game studio Radiant Entertainment back in 2016. During that time, Radiant was working on a free-to-play game called Rising Thunder, though that didn’t see the light of day, as the studio shut down development once it got acquired.

Are you ready to play all these League of Legends spin-offs? Or is the studio biting off more than it can chew?

Thanks, PCGamer

The Best Multiplayer Games for Your Mobile Phone

Mobile phone gaming has certainly kicked on since the days of Snake on what tended to be a device which resembled a brick, that much is patently obvious. With the seemingly never-ending technological advancements that continually come our way, mobile phones have reaped the rewards.

We can do pretty much anything we want on our miniature handheld mobiles now, be it ordering your Christmas presents via one of the many online stores around the world, catching up on your favourite television shows whilst making your commute into work, playing various games like those available on www.mansioncasino.com/uk/ or updating your Instagram profile with some recent holiday photos. The options are, quite frankly, amazing.

Mobile gaming’s popularity has continually grown with the technological development in this space in particular, so with that in mind, we thought we’d go through some of the best multiplayer mobile games around, so you can enjoy some mobile gaming alongside the console options which are available too. Mobile phone games are getting better and better, so here are some of the best around at the moment.

AdventureQuest 3D

A fairly new multiplayer game for mobile, AdventureQuest 3D is a certainly a fun creation which is capable of keeping you entertained for hours on end. With its vast array of quests, dungeons, raid bosses, various classes, and with the option of crafting, this MMORPG is proving to be hugely popular. Arguably its best feature, though, is its ability to function on more than one platform, with the option of playing the game on your mobile phone or your PC.

Critical Ops

Enjoy defeating and wiping out evil terrorists? Then Critical Ops could be the game for you. Alternatively, though, you can also enter the dark side and join forces with the terrorists too. The game features multiplayer combat and – refreshingly – has no in-app purchases which tend to frustrate and have a detrimental effect on the overall game play.

Crossy Road

An arcade platformer, Crossy Road is a game which is all about survival. To survive you need to cross roads and streams without dying and essentially make it as long as possible. With its vast array of characters and the ability to play against up to four of your friends – if connected to a WiFi network – this family friendly, fun game is an entertaining play.

NBA Jam

A sports game had to make the list and there aren’t many better than NBA Jam, especially for multiplayer gaming. Featuring two-on-two basketball with the rules dumbed down a bit, players can steal and knock their opponents in an attempt to gain various rewards. Just like basketball in real life, the game is all about outscoring your opponent but with added mayhem. Throw in the fact it has no in-app purchases, local multiplayer, online multiplayer, Android TV support and controller support, then this arcade basketball game is well worth a go.

PUBG Mobile

Everyone’s heard of PUBG, right? This massively popular game is now available on mobile and has taken the mobile gaming world by storm. Like its console version, PUBG Mobile is incredibly fun and entertaining, and is a multiplayer masterpiece. Dropping onto an island with 99 other players never felt better, especially via a mobile phone device whilst on-the-go.

NOVA Legacy

The latest creation from the NOVA franchise, NOVA Legacy is the first one in the series that features online multiplayer and is proving to be one of the best multiplayer games currently available on mobile. With its campaign mode, various multiplayer features such as death matches and character customisation, NOVA Legacy is a real treat.

Call of Duty Mobile

Launched just this month, Call of Duty Mobile (or COD Mobile), has already reached millions of gamers, and it doesn’t look to be stopping anytime soon. While the gameplay might be old hat for console/PC gamers, mobile gamers are just now experiencing the addictive multiplayer first-person shooter gameplay that made the game a household name.

Couple that it’s free-to-play, and it’s a guaranteed formula for success. Of course, there are already cheaters running rampant, but if Tencent and Activision can keep updating the game, and maybe ease up on the microtransactions (highly unlikely), Call of Duty might be ruling the mobile gaming sphere as it does console gaming.

Fortnite

Is there even any doubt? Fortnite has not only become the most popular game on PC and consoles, it’s also one of the most popular games of all time. It’s now gotten so big that it has entered pop culture, and Epic’s bank account is evident of this.

There’s not a lot to be said regarding Fortnite. It’s free-to-play, and is the most popular battle royale game out on the market right now. The fact that it works so well on mobile is just the icing on top for Epic, and why it’s easy to understand why it’s so popular.

What are your top mobile games? Let us know down in the comments.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare PS4 File Size Revealed, Xbox One Size Significantly Smaller

While we posted the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare file size for PC last week, we now know just what the Modern Warfare PS4 file size is, as well as the Xbox One file size. That said, it’s a bit confusing given the disparity.

On the PlayStation Store on PS4, checking the Modern Warfare game page, it shows that Modern Warfare is 60GB. Here’s a screenshot of it:

60GB isn’t bad for the Modern Warfare PS4 file size, no? Well, if you’re on Xbox One, it’s significantly smaller. The Modern Warfare Xbox One file size is just at 45GB making it the smallest of the bunch! This has been revealed by Twitter user MBordon and by people on the Modern Warfare subreddit.

Preloading has started on Xbox!
by inmodernwarfare

According to the people pre-loading Modern Warfare on Xbox One, the game is divided into packs, which when totaled is at 45GB. If you’re wondering what the 15GB discrepancy is, you’re not alone. Could it be for audio files, or maybe the Spec Ops Survival mode that’s exclusive to PS4 is to blame (highly unlikely).

We’ve reached out to Activision to seek clarification on this.

Modern Warfare will launch this October 25 on the PS4, Xbox One and PC, so make sure to keep an eye out here on MP1st for the latest news on the shooter.

The Renaissance of Ninjas Within the Video Gaming Sphere

When it comes to the world of fantasy and popular media, the ninja is a true enigma. Often humble and unknown, ninjas hide in the shadows and stealthily take down anyone who gets in their way. The allure and mystery surrounding such ancient warriors has meant that they have featured heavily in pop culture over the years. The late 1980s and early 1990s was a time awash with ninjas dominating our television screens and so it was only natural that they ended up making their way into the video gaming landscape. After a handful of very playable gaming efforts, ninjas fell back into the shadows and bided their time until their next foray into the mainstream. Thankfully, that time now seems to be upon us once again and ninjas are slowly but surely making a comeback in the video gaming landscape.

A Quick Look at the Archives

It’s fair to say that those of a certain age will be struggling to remember any meaningful ninja related gaming efforts. With this in mind, it’s worth briefly delving into the annals of history to see what makes a good ninja video game. The most obvious place to start is Shinobi III, which was released in 1993 for the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive.

Before SEGA waved the white flag in the console war, they developed an entire series of Shinobi games, with the third installment widely considered to be one of the company’s finest ever efforts. The gameplay has stood the test of time, the graphics are still brilliant and protagonist Joe Musashi still has some of the best special abilities we’ve seen from a ninja. As per https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/, the year 1998 saw the release of Tenchu: Stealth Assassins, which delivered another masterpiece by using renowned martial artists Sho and Kane Kosugi for motion capture. As tributes to Ninja Gaiden go, The Messenger is also well worth a mention and is still regarded as one of the best indie games of all time.

 In Contemporary Gaming Culture

A big part of the public’s newfound interest in ninjas relates to the streamer of the same name, who found fame and fortune over at Twitch. Those who are keeping up with the latest news on that front will already be aware that Ninja (real name Tyler Blevins) has recently left Twitch for Microsoft’s Mixer streaming service. However, Ninja is still the name on the tip of many tongues within the gaming landscape and whether subconsciously or not, this is certainly helped reignite mainstream interest in the stealthy assassins.

The 21st-Century Ninja and Beyond

Despite the fact that the game has never made it to Japan, Assassin’s Creed is a ninja based game for all intents and purposes, save for the armor and specific costumes. And we all know just how popular that franchise has become. The stealth-based element of Assassin’s Creed is precisely what ninjas are famed for, and it is this skillset that has catapulted ninjas back into the gaming mainstream.

Last March saw the release of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which was undoubtedly one of the most difficult ninja based games the video gaming industry has ever seen. However, the title was so well received over at sites such as https://uk.ign.com/ that it already features regularly on countdowns listing the best ninja based video gaming efforts of all time. Now that the wider public once again has a taste for stealthy, surreptitious activity, 2020 will see the release of Ghost of Tsushima and Cyber Shadow, both of which already look to be two of next year’s most anticipated games.

 Gung-Ho Is a No-Go

Many modern-day video games and first-person shooters require the player to kick down the door and go in all guns blazing, which is fine. However, if franchises such as Splinter Cell have taught us anything, it’s that a stealthy approach brings with it a great sense of achievement. And this is precisely why we love ninjas so much within the gaming landscape.

Sure, blasting people with your SMG is a lot of fun but now and again, it’s nice to use the element of surprise to take someone out. Thankfully, it seems that our love affair with ninjas is well and truly back on and as a result, we are hoping that this will bring with it a spate of enjoyable games relating to our favorite stealthy assassins.

League of Legends Console and Mobile Versions Announced, and It’s a Bit Different

One of the world’s biggest games, League of Legends, is coming to both mobile and consoles! Announced by Riot Games as part of the MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game’s 10th anniversary celebration, this League of Legends console version and mobile version will be called “Wild Rift,” and won’t be a port.

While no release date has been announced, we do know that it’ll be out sometime in 2020. Also of note, League of Legends: Wild Rift is not a port, and has been tweaked to be a more streamlined approach to mobile and console gamers. There’s a new map, matches will be shorter (around 20 minutes each), and of course, the controls have been tweaked to be playable via analog sticks as well.

It’s also unknown which console platforms we’ll get Wild Rift on, but the PS4 and Xbox One are good bets, with the Nintendo Switch possibly being another candidate.

Will League of Legends capture the console and mobile world as it did the PC gaming crowd? We’ll know for sure next year.

Death Stranding File Size Revealed, Here’s a Look at the Title Screen

With Death Stranding now in the hands of game reviewers around the world, it seems more and more details about Hideo Kojima’s latest game is making its way out. If you’re curious what the Death Stranding file size is, don’t worry! It’s not big at all. In fact, the Death Stranding file size is listed as only 48GB!

This was posted by Reddit user OPG609 with a screenshot of the game on the dashboard with the actual file size shown.

This is contrary to earlier reports that the game is at 55GB in size, though there is most likely a day one patch, that should increase this 48GB number. While we still haven’t received the review code for the game, we can verify from someone we know that does have it, that it is indeed 48GB.

If that wasn’t enough, Reddit user Noctis2488 posted the Death Stranding title screen, too! Some might consider this a bit spoiler-ish (I don’t), so proceed at your own discretion.

We’re just a few short weeks away from Death Stranding being available. Don’t forget to check out gameplay of it right here. Or maybe check out this cinematic trailer to get hyped up even more.

Death Stranding will be out this November 8 exclusively on the PS4.

Upcoming iGaming Trends: What Future Has In Store for Online Players?

As any industry connected to a technological progress, iGaming is always changing and evolving. Online casinos are popping up left and right, while suppliers are conquering new markets every day.

Speaking of markets…

…more and more countries are changing regulations in order to open the door for regulated internet gambling. The habits of players are changing, so are their needs and consequently, upcoming iGaming trends.

What was once considered an edgy and engaging game, is now outdated and slow.

In order to accommodate the requirements of their patrons, gaming suppliers are using all disposable resources for enhancing products.

But
…where exactly are they heading?

With so many different types of players, it can be hard for providers to pinpoint the right course.

However:

There are some trends that gamers agree upon and wish to see realized in the future:
More providers in USA markets

  • Bitcoin casinos on the rise
  • Better mobile gaming experience
  • Virtual Reality
  • Holograms

Upcoming iGaming Trends – Breach to the USA Online Gambling Markets

With the rising popularity of online casinos, U.S. lawmakers are eager to turn a profit and create regulated markets for this industry. In some states, this transition has been smooth, while others still hold strongly opposing attitudes delaying the legalization process.

Last year, the Supreme Court of the United States finally lifted the ban on sports betting, which was believed to be one of the first steps to legalizing all types of gambling across the board.

New Jersey was one of the first states to legalize online gambling, and is now reaping the rewards in the form of tax revenues. Other states like Delaware and New York followed in its footsteps, with more states behind them, such as Pennsylvania that opens its market in July of this year.

By striking a deal with PlaySugerHouse for sportsbook and casino in New Jersey, Rush Street Interactive can now offer its portfolio to Americans, along with other reputable suppliers.

While the breach to the USA online gaming industry is in full force, the estimations for the future see more providers on the markets and better availability of diverse gaming products to consumers.

More Online Casinos with the Crypto-Currency Option

The rise of cryptocurrencies back in 2017, forced casinos to add digital money among payment methods.
It is a recent trend that online platforms reluctantly accept. Still, there are more and more venues that offer this gateway, so it seems like cryptocurrency will finally take its place under the industry’s sun.

The major issue with this currency
…is the origin of funds and its implementation that does come with some implications for the industry. Blockchain (the information system that powers cryptocurrencies) has been criticized for the very thing that makes it so attractive to users – its anonymity.

Many regulators have laws in place requiring verification of the source of funds to prevent money laundering – which does not allow for anonymity. U.K. Gambling Commission, for example, takes this issue very seriously and has imposed harsh penalties on operators who don’t follow these rules.
So far, there isn’t a widespread solution.

However
…blockchain and cryptocurrency gambling have enough advantages to become wildly popular and at the same time, profitable.

While there’s been a word about banning this currency as the payment method for online gambling, the estimation shows its wider usage in the future. It can help revolutionize the industry, but it will require regulatory administrations across the world to create new suitable laws.

Nevertheless
…cryptocurrency as a payment method for the majority of online operators is one of the upcoming gaming trends, according to statistics.

Improvements in the Mobile Playing Experience

Players are choosing platforms they can enjoy both at home and on the go. It is exactly why mobile casino popularity is on the rise. In order to adapt to this new demand, virtual venues have to optimise platforms and make them compatible with all devices.

However
…many casino apps regularly experience glitches, crashes and slower interface. This year, we have witnessed a change in this trend with extraordinary mobile versions.

With fierce competition, platforms are investing a lot to adapt to the changing market and offer players a great mobile experience.

Punters want an online casino that has excellent desktop platform, and a mobile version that matches the same quality and features. With the progress of technology, brands have improved immensely with regards to the cross-device functionality. It is one of the trends that will surely continue on in the future, as a big focus point for the operators.

Virtual Reality

While virtual reality games are already present, it is predicted to be one of the upcoming iGaming trends in the following years. Releases of this type have unlimited potential, but at the moment, VR gambling lacks in many areas, especially the graphics capabilities compared to the ones for consoles and PCs.

On the other hand
…could technical features manage to catch up in the future, it is likely we will see a massive jump in VR games due to the highly realistic experiences it has the ability to give gamers.

Developers are aware of this trend and working on incorporating VR as a way to allow gamers to walk around a virtual casino in order to gamble, as opposed to playing the standard flash games.

Furthermore
… this technology is extremely versatile, with games like bingo having the real chance of being upgraded to a new level.

Holograms

While this upcoming iGaming trend might be a year away, it does attract the interest of players. Hologram technology as been evolving for the past few years, but it has yet to make its way into the world of gaming.

Players do have the ability to access games on the go these days, but they are confined to the desktop or mobile screens. Screens at portable devices are usually small, which does take away from the feeling of live casino experience.

On the contrary
…holograms are effective in providing a lifelike experience. With 3D glasses, there is a possibility that holograms could find their way in this international market. It will revolutionaries iGambling and provide players a highly immersive experience.

It seems that the future brings very exciting changes, according to the upcoming iGaming trends. Some of them are already in motion, while others may need a longer time to develop. Nevertheless, it seems we can look forward to a more enhanced playing experience in the years to come.
