Overwatch Update 2.76 Patch Notes & Halloween Terror 2019 Now Live

Blizzard Entertainment is back once again with a new Overwatch Halloween event, and it’s Halloween Terror 2019! Coinciding with that, a new Overwatch update is out, which brings hero balancing fixes. Check out the full Overwatch update 2.76 patch notes and Halloween Terror details below.

Overwatch update 2.76 patch notes:

Halloween Terror 2019:

The fright for the future returns!

We’re celebrating the scariest time of the year with a seasonal event: Overwatch Halloween Terror! Expand your collection of spooky gear and relive the chilling tale of Junkenstein’s Revenge in our limited-time PvE brawl. Overcome weekly challenges with wins in Quick Play, Competitive Play, or Arcade to earn a series of uniquely chilling rewards!

You’ll also be able to unlock new seasonal items—including new legendary skins like Pharaoh Ana, Warlock Ashe, and Will-o’-Wisp Tracer—to add to our growing collection from previous years.

Learn more about Halloween Terror here.

GENERAL UPDATES

The Arcade has been expanded to 7 cards, to better handle its increasing variety of game modes.

COMPETITIVE UPDATES

Season 2 of Competitive 3v3 Lockout Elimination has begun.

BLIZZCON SKINS

We’re celebrating 25 years of Azeroth’s past at this year’s BlizzCon—and to mark this legendary occasion, we’ve created a pair legendary Overwatch skins representing two iconic Warcraft heroes. Prepare to seek vengeance against your opponents with Illidan Genji, and call upon the power of the (hard-)light of Elune as Tyrande Symmetra! These new Legendary Overwatch skins are available to BlizzCon attendees and BlizzCon Virtual Ticket holders.

HERO UPDATES

D.Va

Defense Matrix

  • Regeneration rate increased from 12.5% to 16% per second
  • Delay before regeneration begins lowered from 1 second to 0.75 seconds

Developer Comment: This change will allow D.Va to absorb more damage over time, while still keeping the maximum duration she can absorb at one time the same.

Orisa

Protective Barrier

  • Cooldown increased from 9 to 10 seconds

Developer Comment: Orisa’s barrier is often too difficult to deal with. This increased cooldown will make it more reasonable to destroy it before she can place another one.

Roadhog

Scrap Gun

  • Ammunition increased from 5 to 6.

Developer Comment: Roadhog is one of the best heroes at breaking down barriers quickly, but often he would be out of ammo and unable to capitalize on a barrier being destroyed. This change gives him more opportunities to poke at these high health targets and still having extra shots to threaten the enemy.

Sigma

Kinetic Grasp

  • No longer blocks Chain Hook and Whip Shot

Gravitic Flux

  • High gravity effect duration reduced from 1.2 to 0.9 seconds

Experimental Barrier

  • Regeneration rate reduced from 175 to 150 per second
  • Now has a 1 second cooldown after recalling the barrier
  • Initial 0.2 second cast time removed

Developer Comment: Sigma can often feel difficult to counter since he can so quickly reposition his shield and use Kinetic Grasp to block from other directions. We’re opening up some weaknesses in these abilities to allow for more counter play from his enemies.

Winston

Barrier Projector

  • Duration increased from 6 to 9 seconds
  • Health increased from 600 to 700

Developer Comment: Winston’s barrier often feels unreliable as a protection tool since it can be destroyed so quickly. Raising the health and duration should allow for him to apply pressure and protect his team more consistently.

Baptiste

Immortality Field

  • Health decreased from 250 to 200

Developer Comment: Immortality Field is a very strong ability with its weakness being that it is destroyable. We’re lowered the health of the device so that its can be countered more easily.

Lucio

Crossfade

  • Speed boost’s effect increased from 20% to 25%

Amp It Up

  • Speed boost’s amplification increased from 50% to 60%

Wall Ride

  • Speed buff reduced from 40% to 30%

Developer Comment: Lucio has had previous reductions to his speed that were put in place to reduce his effectiveness when boosting more than 2 tanks. Now that this is no longer possible, he is gaining some of his speed back. The Wall Ride change is there to counteract the increase in speed, so it should feel the same as it did before the change.

Mercy

Valkyrie

  • The extra beams created by Valkyrie now ignore enemy barriers

Developer Comment: This change will make Valkyrie makes Mercy’s beams consistent with how they work outside of the ultimate.

Moira

Biotic Grasp

  • Self-healing reduced from 30 to 20 health per second

Developer Comment: Moira’s dueling capability is a bit too strong, so we’re reducing the self-healing gain from her Biotic Grasp to make it more reasonable to fight against her alone.

Doomfist

Rocket Punch

  • Time to reach max charge increased from 1 to 1.4 seconds

The Best Defense…

  • Shield health gained per hit reduced from 35 to 30

Developer Comment: We’re increasing Doomfist’s charge time for Rocket Punch to give players more warning when he is charging this powerful ability. We’re also reducing the shield health gain from his passive ability to weaken how much damage he can soak while dishing out his own.

Sombra

Translocator

  • Cooldown increased from 4 to 6 seconds
  • Cooldown now begins immediately upon deploying the beacon or if it is killed by an enemy

Developer Comment: Having the Translocator cooldown begin right when it is thrown allows Sombra more flexibility in how she can use it. For example, she can now often redeploy it instantly after teleporting to it, or quickly destroy and reposition it while sneaking around. The cooldown has been increased to compensate for this change.

Symmetra

Photon Barrier

  • Duration reduced from 15 to 12 seconds
  • Health reduced from 5000 to 4000

Sentry Turret

  • Damage per second reduced from 50 to 40

Photon Projector

  • Players impacted by the primary fire beam should now hear a louder impact sound

Developer Comment: The duration of Photon Barrier was too high considering its impact on a battle. Recent changes have seen large increases in Symmetra’s overall damage output, so we’re reducing her turret damage in lieu of making further damage adjustments to her Photon Projector.

Tracer

Pulse Pistols

  • Damage falloff now starts at 13 meters, up from 10 meters

Developer Comment: This change will allow Tracer to play from slightly further away from her targets, allowing her to stay safer while still keeping pressure on her enemies.

BUG FIXES

General

  • Fixed a player profile issue preventing hero win percentages from being displayed for competitive arcade mode seasons

Heroes

Brigitte

  • Fixed a bug with Brigitte’s Rally checking line of sight from her feet instead of from her head
  • Fixed a bug with Inspire’s position being affected by the player’s aim pitch

Doomfist

  • Fixed a bug that could cause Doomfist’s Rocket Punch to not travel forward if he was sliding along a wall while airborne
  • Fixed a bug that caused Rocket Punch to briefly stop all movement on a Fortified Orisa
  • Fixed a bug that allowed Doomfist to use Meteor Strike before taking impact damage from Sigma’s Gravitic Flux

Sigma

  • Fixed a bug that allowed Sigma’s Gravitic Flux to ignore line of sight through some ceilings

Sombra

  • Fixed a bug with EMP’s position being affected by player’s aim pitch

Winston

  • Fixed a bug that caused Winston’s Barrier Projector to not consistently play its destroyed visual effects

Apex Legends Update 1.22 Out, Fight or Fright Event Now Live & Here Are the Details

It’s here, legends! Respawn Entertainment’s Halloween event for Apex Legends called Fight or Fright is now live with a new Apex Legends update! Apex Legends update 1.22 is super small, clocking in at just 280MB, and most likely just activates the event.

Apex Legends update 1.22 Fight or Fright full details:

Summary:

  •  Limited Time Mode – Shadowfall
    • Featuring a nighttime version of Kings Canyon
  • Exclusive event challenges with free earnable cosmetics, including Two Legendary Weapon Skins
  • 24 Event Limited premium cosmetics that players can now unlock in one of three ways:
    • Direct purchase for Apex Coins
    • Direct unlock with Crafting Metals
    • Random unlock with Event Apex Packs
      •  Additionally, the Event Currency in these packs has been replaced with non-event loot drops, yielding more loot overall
  • Lifeline Heirloom Set Preview
    • Unlock all 24 Fight or Fright pack cosmetics during the event and unlock the Lifeline Heirloom set for free
  • Double XP for Top 5 & Wins Weekend

Experience Kings Canyon at Night in an All-New Limited Time Mode – Shadowfall

Darkness descends on Kings Canyon in Shadowfall, a warped version of the Apex games hosted by a mysterious figure.

At the start of a match, you and 34 other solo players will drop into an eerily-lit Kings Canyon and fight to the death… with a dark twist. Once you die you will respawn as an undead version of your Legend and join the powerful “Shadow Squad”.

As part of the Shadow Squad, you will lose your ability to use weapons and your legend abilities will be stripped, but in return, you will be given increased movement and jump speed, along with a brutal melee attack. You’ll also have the ability to scale walls and be given unlimited respawns via skydive.

The battle rages until there are only ten living Legends left, who must then join forces and make it to an evac ship while the Shadow Squad attempts to stop them at all costs.

Complete Event Challenges for Exclusive Fight or Fright Cosmetics, including Two Legendary Weapon Skins

During Fight or Fright, complete a variety of challenges to earn free exclusive skins, badges and music packs.

Event Limited Premium Cosmetics

The Fight or Fright Collection Event brings another set of 24 themed, limited-time cosmetics to Apex.  We strive to give players choice in how they can obtain in-game cosmetics, so for this Event we’ve updated the ways players can unlock these premium Collection Event cosmetics.

All 24 Event-Exclusive Fight or Fright Collection Event items will be available, from day 1, via direct purchase, crafting, and Event Apex Packs.

  • Direct Purchase
  • Crafting
  • Event Apex Packs
    • 700 Apex Coins

We’ve also removed event currency from the Event Apex Packs and have replaced it with additional loot. This means that players will get more total items in each Event Apex Pack. There are also zero duplicates in these packs.  To get further into that spooky spirit, each Fight or Fright Collection Character Skin will also come with 2 themed quips.

Non-Event items can be from the following categories: Weapon Skins, Legend Skins, Legend Finishers, Banner Frames, Banner Poses, Banner Stat Trackers, Intro Quips, Kills Quips or Crafting Metals.

We’re also updating the way you unlock the newest Heirloom item during the preview event.  If you unlock all 24 Fight of Fright Collection Pack Items during the event, you’ll unlock the Lifeline Heirloom set for free.  If you don’t manage to unlock this new Heirloom set during the event, it will be available as a bonus in Apex Packs after the event ends.

Double Top 5 & Wins XP weekend

From 10am PST on October 25 through 10am PST on October 28 players will earn double XP for Top 5’s and Wins all weekend long. This bonus will affect both Account Level and Battle Pass progression.

As always, we appreciate all of your support and feedback. Can’t wait to see you on the Frontier!

Here’s a Complete Look at the Fortnite Chapter 2 Map

With Epic Games ushering in the next chapter of Fortnite, possibly the biggest change players will see upfront is the map. If you’re curious how it looks now, take a look at the Fortnite Chapter 2 map below.

Once we get an image of the map complete with location markers and such, we’ll get it out to our readers ASAP.

In case you haven’t been keeping tabs with Fortnite the past few days, Epic Games sucked the entire game’s world into a black hole, which made the game unavailable to everyone for more than 24 hours.

Today, though, we got the big Fortnite Chapter 2 patch, and we also got a new trailer showcasing the Chapter 2 Battle Pass.

Now for those who’d rather play Save the World, check out the game’s new roadmap to see what’s coming in the next few months.

Those who are able to overcome this challenge will have a chance to earn…

  • Mythic Weapons
    • Wield the power of the Storm King!. These unique weapons represent the Storm King himself, both visually and in power. Each weapon has a unique perk that unlocks special behaviors, right from level 1. Shoot homing projectiles for insane headshot streaks, charge your weapon to unleash a devastating chained laser blast, or summon meteors from the sky to smash husks into oblivion!
      • These weapons drop exclusively from the Mythic Storm King. If you want to use them, you’ll have to earn them: they cannot be dropped from your Backpack.
  • Gameplay Adjustments
    • We’ve been listening to the community’s concerns and observations of the state of the mid to high end gameplay meta. We’ve decided to make some changes to improve the Save the World moment-to-moment gameplay experience for everyone.
    • We also want to shake up how the game is played, intending to keep the gameplay exciting with a renewed focus on counterplay going forward. Below are some examples of what to expect:
      • We will adjust some traps to make them more effective in some situations while also reducing exploitation in others. In at least one case we will completely redesign a trap to make sure it goes to good use and is enjoyed by players.
        • Example: Gas traps will disperse bee clouds, but enemies must stay in the gas cloud itself to take damage over time.
      • Adjustments will be made to some AI to make them less frustrating in some cases while reducing exploits in others.
        • Example: Propane tanks will no longer be dropped by Sploder Huskies if they are eliminated before throwing them or self destructing.
      • Hero ability damage will be adjusted so that it scales as effectively as weapons do currently.
  • Locker Completion
    • We’re happy to announce that cosmetics will be fully completed!  We’ll be rolling out each Locker component, as well as additional improvements, over the course of this Chapter. Some of the features you can expect are:
      • Customize your commander’s appearance using any Outfit and Backbling you own.
      • Wraps will be applicable to all ranged weapons, melee weapons, and your hoverboard!
      • All reactive outfits, backbling, and pickaxes will be made to work with Save the World (using different criteria from Battle Royale where necessary and appropriate).
      • Your banner will also be set in the locker and will work with outfits, backbling, and pickaxes that use the banner in their appearance.

Epic says that they are shifting to a less frequent cadence when it comes to updates, but they want to make it more meaningful. This will allow the studio to diverge shipping features around the Battle Pass, and release them in a more polished state.

Lastly, Epic gas something planned alongside the stuff mentioned above, which the studio is aiming to launch this season. However, they’re not ready to share it just yet.

Are you still playing Save the World or has battle royale completely taken your Fortnite game time? Don’t forget to check out the start of Chapter 2 is today, and you can read what to expect from it here.

Ed Boon Promises a Big Surprise for Mortal Kombat Next Year

Co-creator of Mortal Kombat and creative director of NetherRealm Studios Ed Boon has confirmed during the Brasil Game show that Mortal Kombat fans can expect some big surprises next year, which means that the studio is already poring over Mortal Kombat 2020 plans.

In an interview done by TerraTV, Ed Boon opened up a bit on the future of the franchise, suggesting that more characters will be on their way and that fans should expect a “Big Surprise” coming sometime next year.

The story of Mortal Kombat (MK11), we’re pretty much calling this one the end of the story. We certainly aren’t through with Mortal Kombat, you know there are more characters that are gonna come and we have a big surprise coming next year for Mortal Kombat.

Not surprising to hear about them not continuing with the current story, and it’s likely the mention of more characters is referring to the current Kombat Pass as that isn’t due to end until March of 2020. As for the surprise that is anyone’s guess, though we do speculate that there will be a Kombat Pass 2 that’ll hopefully feature some of the community’s long-requested characters such as Meleena, Rain, and many others. It could very well be a new Mortal Kombat game, though doubtful it’ll be the next mainline and instead perhaps a spin-off such as Shaolin Monks. Again, its anyone’s guess.

You can watch the full short interview down below, which thankfully can be understood via a translator.

Is this a hint for a new Mortal Kombat game? Or maybe Boon was just referring to Kombat Pass 2?

UI improvements

  • The character menu has been renamed to Inventory to add clarity.
  • Multiple improvements to notifications meant to reduce clutter and improve pacing of information.

PVP

  • The DZ Daily Project now is a PvP project.
    • Each day this Project will now lead players to a Dark Zone or Conflict activity.
    • Developer comment: We took this approach instead of adding a new project category because players can already feel overwhelmed with the number of available projects and we didn’t want to add more clutter to that experience.
  • Bonus armor is now properly visualized for enemies.
    • Developer comment: Previously you only saw bonus armor appear on teammates and yourself. This led to the feeling that shots were being dropped because there was a lack of signs and feedback when you were shooting through an enemy player’s bonus armor pool. This change lets the game feel both more responsive and more tactical, putting more knowledge in the players hand before they initiate an attack.
  • Normalization.
    • Player stats will no longer be modified, and agents receive their full recalibration bonuses at end game.
    • Players below Gear Score 500 will still get a boost to 500 but agents that have optimized their gear will now have a slight advantage.
    • Talents still have PvE and PvP versions and are now displaying their PvP version when entering a PvP activity.
    • PvP modifiers are now shown in the UI.
  • Conflict
    • End of match presentation
      • We have dramatically overhauled the overall presentation for Conflict in TU6.
        • New Loading Screens.
        • New “Match Starts” sequence.
        • Updated Boost signs and feedback.
        • Updated Victory and Loss presentation, winning teams are also greeted by new music.
        • Reworked end of round screen. This has received updates to pacing and layout and is now focusing more on the earned rewards.
    • End of match reward.
      • Players will now always earn a reward for playing a match of conflict regardless if they won or lost their match.
      • Players still earn additional rewards for ranking up and winning.
      • Developer comment: In general Conflict reward pacing was not on par with the rest of the game and we think the update will up the incentives for our players to jumping in to Conflict matches.
    • Added new sound effects for the countdown in Conflict.
    • Added visibility of the area of effect range of Skills.
      • Only shows when players are in the affected area.
  • Supply Drops
    • New locations for supply drops have been added and the variety of supply drops has been increased.
    • Supply drops can now also occur in the ODZ.
  • Thieves’ Den Vendor
    • The vendor has been reworked and now offers goods for Dark Zone currency.
    • Dark Zone currency can be earned in any DZ and is now a unified currency for all Dark Zones.
    • The vendor’s goods will reset regularly.

Recalibration

We have made several changes to recalibration for this update:

  • New recalibration interface.
  • Players are now able to recalibrate stat types over each other, for example Offensive (Red) attributes over Defensive (blue) attributes.
    • This still only applies to stats on gear pieces of the same category.
  • It is now possible to recalibrate items that are located in the Stash.
  • Recalibration score has increased from 100 to 150.

Shepherd and Call for Backup

  • Shepherd rank now rises automatically.
    • Filling the shepherd meter now triggers an automatic endorsement. The host may still grant an additional endorsement.
    • Due to this additional available endorsement, Shepherd ranks now require 15 endorsements for the first rank and 7 endorsements for each additional rank. (Up from 10 and 5, respectively.)

Stash

  • Stash Space perks Increased by 150, players will now have 300 stash space with all perks unlocked.
  • Increased Mailbox capacity to 60.

Balancing changes

Brand Sets
Alps Summit Armament:

  • 2-Piece set bonus is now +10% Skill Power (up from 5%).

China Light Industries Corporation:

  • 3-Piece set bonus is now +20% Skill Haste (down from 30%).

Petrov Defense Group:

  • 3-Piece set bonus is now +20% Skill Haste (down from 30%).

Exotic Holstered Talents

Chatterbox (Nerf):

  • While holstered, reloading your weapon within 5s after a kill grants 15% (down from 20%) rate of fire for 10s.

Nemesis (Nerf):

  • While holstered, gain +15% (down from +25%) headshot damage when scoped with your current weapon.
    • PvP version remains unchanged at +10%.

Merciless (buff):

  • While holstered, landing a shot has a 5% chance to deal +100% (up from +20%) damage as explosive damage.

Exotic Talents

BTSU Gloves (Quality of Life Adjustment)

  • Explosions created by the Charged Proxies talent no longer damage the player.

Chatterbox (Buff):

  • Every shot landed grants 1% rate of fire to a max of 60%. This resets on reload.
  • Kills with this weapon refill 75% (up from 20%) of its magazine and grants a buff for 10s.
  • While the buff is active, every shot landed increases magazine capacity by 3 (up from 1) to a max of 60. Killing a target consumes the buff to fully refill the increased magazine.

Diamondback (Buff PvE)

  • Diamondback randomly marks an enemy.
  • Hitting that enemy consumes the mark, guaranteeing a critical hit with +20% total damage. A new random target is marked afterwards and whenever you reload.
  • After hitting 5 marked targets, gain +50% reload speed, +20% total damage, and all shots fired are guaranteed critical hits for 10s 15s.
  • While drawn, each time a round is loaded, gain +20% (up from +15%) bonus armor for 3s.
    • Although current live version text says 20%, this was bugged and only did 15%, it now grants 20% instead of 15%.

Diamondback (PvP – New Functionality)

  • Headshots against players trigger deep fangs for 5 seconds.
  • Non-player Enemies such as NPCs and player skills will still be marked randomly by the Diamondback and will also trigger deep fangs for 5 seconds.

Eagle Bearer (Adjustment)

  • Base Damage Reduced by 15%.
  • Accuracy increases as you continuously fire, up to +100%.
  • Headshot kills grant +100% reload speed, +50% (up from +35%) damage, and the tenacity buff for 10s.
    • PvP version remains at 35%.
  • The strength of Tenacity is increased by 1% for body shots and 5% for headshots.
  • 40-80% (up from 20-80%) of the damage taken is delayed until the buff expires.
  • All the total delayed damage is reduced for each enemy killed while the buff is active, up to 100% with 3 (down from 5) kills.

Merciless (Buff)

  • RPM increased from 260 to 400.
  • This weapon is equipped with a binary trigger that fires on trigger pull and release.
  • Pulling the trigger fires primer rounds that stay embedded in an enemy. Releasing the trigger fires detonator rounds that detonate all primers on the enemy it hits.
  • Each primer detonated gains +100% (up from +75%) damage per primer detonated.
    • PvP version remains at +75%.
  • Only one enemy can have primers and at most 5 primers can be embedded.

Nemesis (PvP Nerf)

  • PvP Base Damage reduced by 10%

Pestilence (Buff):

  • PvE Base Damage increased by 20%
  • PvP damage increased by 5.6%
  • After hitting the same enemy 5 (down from 10) times, that enemy is inflicted with Plague of the Outcasts for 10s.
  • Whenever an enemy with Plague of the Outcasts is killed, they leave a toxic cloud for 5s (down from 10) that deals 1000% (up from 400%) weapon damage per second to anyone inside and inflicts them with Pestilence.
    • PvP version remains at 500% for 10s.
  • This debuff reduces healing received by 50% for 10s.
  • Whenever an enemy with Pestilence would be downed, they are instead instantly killed.
  • Pestilence is removed if the enemy is repaired to full armor.

Sweet Dreams (Buff):

  • Base Damage increased by 20%.
  • Landing a melee attack on an enemy after swapping to this weapon grants 60% (up from 35%) bonus armor and applies the Sandman debuff.
    • PvP bonus armor remains at 35%.
  • Killing an enemy with the Sandman debuff reapplies the bonus armor.
  • This debuff prevents the enemy from using armor kits and from receiving healing from any source.
  • While equipped, dodging reloads 25% of your current weapon’s magazine.
  • And if drawn, dodging grants +20% weapon damage for 10s. (added functionality)

NPCs

  • Rebalanced Hard, Challenging and Heroic difficulty.
  • Black Tusk War Hounds and Mini Tanks will now feature red, blinking lights before they perform their on-death explosion.
    • This is now consistent with how all other NPCs signal that they explode.
  • Black Tusk Mini Tank now has a short wind-up before its on-death explosion.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the Black Tusk War Hound’s turret from not being able to rotate beyond a certain threshold when moving.
    • Developer comment: This means the War Hound will be able to hit a target more frequently when moving which was always intended.
  • Decreased effectiveness of the Black Tusk Mini Tank after its Controller has died.
    • Increased wind-up time of LMG greatly.
    • Decreased accuracy significantly.
    • Enabled friendly fire.
  • Removed Explosive Ammo from Elite Black Tusk War Hound and replaced it with “Triple Shot”—three successive shots after a short delay between each.
    • Developer commentBleed was too punishing when applied by the War Hound.
  • NPCs are now more aggressive when entering combat with the player.
    • Assaults now provide cover-fire for their allies when entering combat if a Heavy Weapons is not present in their fireteam.
  • Decreased Outcasts Tank and Underground Tank health by 12.5%.
  • Increased movement speed of Underground Tank slightly.
  • Decreased crowd-controlling effectiveness against Tank NPCs slightly and in a number of different ways:
    • Shock duration decreased by 50% for Tanks.
    • Ensnare duration decreased by 50% for Tanks.
    • Burn no longer staggers or affects the behavior of Tanks.
    • Blind causes Tank NPCs to stand still and shoot wildly (with friendly fire turned on).
    • Blinded Melee Tanks slowly move to the player’s last known position but will not attack.
    • Confuse causes Tank NPCs to walk around randomly while shooting wildly (with friendly fire turned on).
    • Confused Melee Tanks slowly move towards the player but with a decent amount of delay.
  • Player Turrets are now more likely to be targeted by enemy NPCs.
    • This is especially true if the player is hiding in cover or not doing anything particularly threatening.
    • The hitbox size has also been increased slightly and we fixed some issues so enemy NPCs will now hit turrets a bit more easily.

Skills

Chem Launcher:

  • Repair cloud no longer repairs a hostile players armor.

Drone:

  • Striker Drone damage is now affected by the Damage to Elites attribute.

Firefly

  • All Firefly variants can now be quick-deployed and will rapidly seek out the nearest target(s).
  • Increased cooldown of Blinder Firefly from 60s to 90s.

Developer Notes: Similar to what was outlined above, generous skill haste from gear and the addition of the exotic BTSU gloves meant players could achieve both very frequent and very long blind durations on NPCs. Coupled with something like an equally short cooldown on Cluster Seekers, it was possible to crowd-control an entire wave of 10+ enemies while simultaneously dealing tens of millions of damage with ease and at very little risk.
We like seeing powerful combinations of skills being used together and want to encourage clever use of game mechanics, especially in terms of group synergy, but it should come at the cost of investing in highly specialized gear. With these changes, it is still possible to achieve a 10s or lower cooldown on both the Blinder Firefly and Cluster Seeker Mines, however it will require a more significant investment in Skill Haste to achieve such a powerful force-multiplier.

Hive:

  • The Stinger hive now applies the Bleed status effect on hit.
  • Can now be picked up and placed down elsewhere.
    • The charges that remain when picked up are saved.
    • No longer uses a cooldown, but instead uses a charge-up mechanic similar to chem launcher.

Pulse

  • Scanner Pulse base cooldown increased from 40s to 60s.
  • Remote Pulse base radius increased from 12m to 15m.

Seeker Mine

  • Increased damage of Explosive Seeker Mine by 20%.
    • Now applies Bleed status effect.
  • Increased damage of Cluster Seeker Mines by +30%.
  • Increased cooldown of Cluster Seeker Mines from 40s to 60s.
  • Lowered quantity of Cluster Seeker Mines from 4 to 3.
  • Increase cooldown of Blinder Firefly from 60s to 90s.

Developer Notes: We’ve seen an overall positive reception from the community in regard to the improvements to skills and skill haste in TU5, and it’s been great to see players theory crafting and using their new and improved builds. With skill-based builds becoming more and more common at the end-game however, it was clear that some combination of skills had become overly disruptive to the intended experience.
In particular, the generous increase to skill haste on gear coupled with the reduced base cooldown of Cluster Seekers meant achieving a very short cooldown was relatively easy. While we’re happy with the damage output of the Cluster Seeker itself, the skill does more than just blow things up, as it effectively causes NPCs to panic; frequently flushing them out of or away from cover, leading to even more damage received.
For this reason, the Cluster Seeker can be seen as a significant force multiplier, especially in group content. Because encounter balance and cadence is important for creating not just challenging combat, but a satisfying overall experience, we felt it necessary to increase the cooldown of Cluster Seekers to 60s (still remaining 30s shorter than its TU4 counterpart) and lower the number of mines deployed by 1, while giving it a boost in damage to compensate; ensuring it remains your best choice when it comes to eliminating multiple spread-out targets at once. The increase in damage and the addition of the Bleed status effect to the Explosive Seeker Mine should also increase its attractiveness and make choosing between it and the Cluster variant a more meaningful choice.

Turret

  • Assault Turret and Sniper Turret damage is now affected by the Damage to Elites attribute.
  • Increased drain on Incinerator Turret active duration when firing.

PlanetSide Studio Daybreak Games Lays Off Multiple Employees Amid Company “Realignment”

Daybreak Games, the studio behind free-to-play games like PlanetSide, H1z1 and more, have confirmed that they have laid off a number of employees as part of a company-wide “realignment.”

Here’s the official statement sent to Gamasutra:

We are taking steps to improve our business and to support our long-term vision for the existing franchises and development of new games. This will include a realignment of the company into separate franchise teams, which will allow us to highlight their expertise, better showcase the games they work on, and ultimately provide tailored experiences for our players. Unfortunately, some employees were impacted by this effort, and we’re doing what we can to support them during this challenging time.

It’s currently unknown how many people were affected by this restructuring, but this isn’t the first time the studo has laid off employees. Just in December of 2018, about 70 people were laid off.

We wish those affected nothing but the best, and hope they land on their feet soon.

Here’s 15 Minutes of GTFO Gameplay Showcasing 4-Player Survival Horror Action

If you’re tired of the endless shooters that has you playing against other people, perhaps you want something more cooperative in nature? If so, you might want to check out GTFO by 10 Chambers Collective.

GTFO, for those not familiar, is a four-player survival horror first-person shooter, that has you playing together with other players in order to get through the underground complex that’s overrun with monsters. Currently, it’s set for release this year for PC, though there’s no definite date for it yet.

As you can see, the people playing are the devs so they’re well coordinated, communicate, and generally act like a single unit. I somehow don’t see other people doing the same, since we all know how some people panic when faced with monsters.

Hopefully, GTFO also sees release on consoles. Once we know more about the game, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

The Fortnite Chapter 2 Battle Pass is said to be available now, but we still don’t know when exactly we’ll be able to play this new map.

Are you excited for the new features coming to Fortnite Chapter 2? What are you hoping to see aside from the stuff we mentioned above? Let us know in the comments.

Apex Legends Halloween Event Trailer Reminds What’s Coming Tomorrow

In case you didn’t know, Respawn Entertainment is starting the Apex Legends Halloween event tomorrow called “Fight or Fright,” and along with it, players can expect new content to obtain and more. To remind everyone of this, and to hype everyone up, the studio has released a new trailer.

While we’ll post the full patch notes tomorrow once the update drops, here’s a quick overview of what’s coming:

  • Limited Time Solo Mode: Shadowfall – Experience a warped, dark version of the Apex games hosted by a mysterious figure.. As players die, they will respawn as an undead version of their former selves and join the powerful “Shadow Squad” without weapons or legend abilities — but with increased movement and jump speed.
  • Themed Content – Complete a variety of challenges to earn exclusive skins, badges and a music pack.
  • Limited Premium Cosmetics – Unlock a set of 24 themes, limited-time creepy cosmetics; available through direct purchase for Apex Coins, direct unlock with Crafting Metals or with Event Apex Packs.

Should Battlefield Be Worried With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s 32v32 Ground War?

In case you didn’t know, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare beta featured the franchise’s first take on large-scale, all-out warfare with its new 32v32 Ground War game mode. Not only that, it even featured vehicles as well, though we only got to see a tank and ATV available. Now, it’s hard to see play this mode without comparing it to the game it’s obviously trying to ape, and that’s the Battlefield franchise.

When gamers think about large-scale combat in shooters, chances are, the first game in their mouths will be Battlefield and with good reason. Starting with Battlefield 1942 way back in 2002, the franchise has constantly redesigned, refined, and improved its core gameplay formula, but the one thing that remained constant was, it featured large-scale infantry combat.

In Modern Warfare, it’s clear that Infinity Ward is going after Battlefield’s crown. Now, the big question is: should Battlefield — and in turn, DICE and EA — be worried?

modern warfare drama

James Lara:

I absolutely loved the Modern Warfare beta, as it showed that Infinity Ward isn’t afraid to shake up the series. Taking a more realistic approach, the gunplay is far slower, yet at the same time just feels right. I found the TTK (time-to-kill) to be right in that sweet spot with it not being a first to shoot win scenario or one that drags on forever. The maps could have used more work in terms of lane balances along with spawns, but for the most part, what was offered in the Beta I thoroughly enjoyed, well almost everything up until the final days where they introduced the large scale 32 vs 32 Ground War Mode.

Coming off from all the previous game modes in the beta, I was rather excited to try out Call of Duty’s take on the “Battlefield” experience. Spawning in, seeing the sheer size of the map and supporting 64 players (more is planned) I was pretty blown away by it, considering Call of Duty has never really done anything of the scope outside of the Battle Royale mode found in Black Ops 4. That excitement however quickly faded away as I began to approach the main capture points in the mode.

Not doing any comparison with Battlefield, the large scale Ground War mode felt rather rushed and thrown together in hopes of trying to innovate the series to stir talk. For starters, it was pretty lag-filled, though I can excuse that being that it was a beta test. Being in a squad, I never felt so much that I was a part of an actual squad, more so the ever-growing body count. This was mostly due to how the spawn system worked as countless times I found myself spawning right in front of the enemy’s hail of bullets, and the available map also wasted a ton of space, as it mainly focused on driving the players to its center due to the capture points being bunched up. Anywhere outside of the center were essentially sniper and tank territory, making it rather hard for a squad of people to push outside of that center rim.

They’re easy fixes, honestly, and could drastically change how the game mode is, but aside from that something I don’t see changing is the killstreak system. I may get a lot of flak for this one, but I honestly feel that they shouldn’t be in this mode. They’re far too spammy for the mode, and super easy for players to get, UAV, for example, feels like a wasted slot as there isn’t a single moment that they weren’t being spammed, along with missile strikes and even vehicle-based killstreaks. While the playing field offered vehicles such as tanks, helicopters, ATC, and more, it did seem like a rather odd inclusion to have vehicle-based killstreaks when essentially they could have balanced things better by having them as pickups from the main spawn base. Regardless though, all of this put together felt as if they were trying to recapture the usual COD experience from past games, rather than what they set out to achieve with the other modes. This may be a positive to many as some have found the slower pace action to be much of a derailment from the past core COD experiences.

I’m not saying that Ground War isn’t fun, because it can be, but in a comparison with Battlefield, it feels like a poor man’s version. The games obvious have stark contrast with one another, which is good because games shouldn’t all be the same, although I have always felt if someone was going to aim for a near-identical experience they should in the least take the parts that players enjoy and build upon it.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Ground War mode has a long way to go before it takes any kind of crown from Battlefield. I get that they aren’t the same game, but Infinity Ward has a good chance of doing it if they fix a lot of the problems found in the Beta. Although I should point out that Battlefield as of recent, really hasn’t boded well with the fanbase as many have felt that they have gone out their way to alienate them as much as possible. It doesn’t help that the current title is constantly being plagued with delays. So in a sense, while I feel Call of Duty isn’t aiming for that crown, DICE is practically handing it to them on a silver platter. If anything, DICE should be worried about DICE.

new modern warfare prestige

Alex Co:

I admit, I’m a big Battlefield fanboy. That said, I do have a soft spot for Call of Duty, and is easily one of my most played games every year. When I first heard that Infinity Ward was doing something akin to Battlefield, I was ecstatic! Imagine having that tight Call of Duty gunplay, fluid 60 frames-per-second action, scorestreaks, etc., all wrapped up in full-on warfare with tons of players!

I played Ground War and I was hit with the hard truth: there’s a reason Call of Duty hasn’t rolled out a mode bigger than 9v9 players, and it shows. There’s more to creating a big-scale shooter than just making the map big, putting in tons of players and letting them shoot each other. You have to consider map balance, team balance, proper spawning mechanics for squads and capture points, how to balance tanks against infantry and so on. DICE has had decades of experience with this and it shows. While gamers might take the studio for granted given how Battlefield 5 turned out, the actual game balance for DICE’s games has been their winning formula. Sure, you’ll get decimated from time to time playing Battlefield, but more often than not, it’s by a more skilled player rather than something else. In Modern Warfare’s Ground War though? I felt like I died mostly due to bad gameplay mechanics mixed in with bad spawn points, killstreak spam and the list goes on.

Prepare to die instantly since the map has so many hide-y holes and pockets of straight of line visibility that lets enemies shoot you from miles away. Couple this with Modern Warfare’s fast time-to-kill (compared to Battlefield), and the game not having medics to heal you, well, you’ll bite the bullet more often than in DICE’s games.

I agree with Jimmy that killstreaks don’t have a place in this mode. This means that if a team manages to get a few killstreaks in, the score can get pretty lopsided for one faction. I’ve yet to play a game during the beta where it was a close one, as most matches devolved into who got what flags first, and which side managed to pull off killstreaks first.

Tanks seemed overpowered as well. Good tank players just camped out on a perch and took out dozens of enemies which shouldn’t be this easy. The vehicle controls didn’t feel as good as DICE’s games too, though that might be something that can be remedied with more playing time.

However, having said all these, I still think DICE should be worried. I mean, Infinity Ward has a lot of work cut out for them, but the fact that the studio is aiming down their sights to take Battlefield’s crown? And couple in how BF5 has been a disappointment so far? Players could easily switch sides if ever a Call of Duty managed to pull it off.

There you have it. What do you think? Should DICE and EA be worried that Call of Duty seems to be taking a shot at their crown? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Merciless (Buff)

  • RPM increased from 260 to 400.

  • Each primer detonated gains +100% (up from +75%) damage per primer detonated.
    • PvP version remains at +75%.
  • Only one enemy can have primers and at most 5 primers can be embedded.

  • PvE Base Damage increased by 20%
  • PvP damage increased by 5.6%

  • This debuff prevents the enemy from using armor kits and from receiving healing from any source.
  • While equipped, dodging reloads 25% of your current weapon’s magazine.
  • And if drawn, dodging grants +20% weapon damage for 10s. (added functionality)

Talents

New talents:

  • Composure:
    • While in cover, grants +10% total weapon damage.
      • Composure can be found on kneepad items. Requires 11 offensive attributes.
  • Concussion:
  • Headshots grant +15% headshot damage for 2 s, 5s with marksman rifles.
    • Concussion can be found on mask items. Requires 7 offensive attributes.
  • Spark:
  • Damaging enemies with skills or grenades grant +15% (10% in PvP) weapon damage for 15s.
    • Spark can be found on backpack items. Requires 9 offensive attributes.
  • Vigilance:
    • Gain +25% (20% in PvP) weapon damage. Receiving damage disables this buff for 4s.
      • Vigilance can be found on chest items. Requires 7 offensive attributes.

Talent changes:

Basic Gear Talents:
All Basic Gear Talents are changing to be “Unique Equip”, meaning they will not stack with duplicates of themselves on other pieces of gear. This means players will have to compose builds of unique talent combinations instead of stacking one talent on all pieces. To compensate for this, all of the basic talents have gotten boosts to their power level.

  • Berserk: Nerf
    • PVE: +8% (down from 10%) weapon damage for every 20% of max armor depleted.
  • Bloodlust: New functionality

DICE Adding Battlefield 5 Operation Underground Two More Times Into Rush Map Rotation

Are you a fan of the Battlefield 5 Operation Underground playlist? If s, we have some slighly good news for you. Today, DICE has announced that it’s adding Operation Underground two more times into the Rush map rotation! Not only that, but the devs are tweaking it so an additional round of Rush is played, so that each side can experience being both an Attacker, and Defender — which is how it was handled before.

This was announced on Twitter by DICE dev Angel Kavazov:

Hey @Battlefield, we’re adding Operation Underground two more times into the Rush map rotation, and also adding an additional round of Rush per map, so that you play as both attackers and defenders before the servers switch to a new map.

While this isn’t exactly the same as getting a full-on Battlefield 5 Operation Underground playlist like we had last week, this is a bit better. Let’s hope DICE actually releases a few 24/7 Operation Underground playlists to placate the player base.
Don’t forget to check out this week’s Tides of War challenges, which is centered around Rush. Once we get more news for Battlefield 5, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.
