Modern Warfare: Infinity Ward Says They’re Pushing for “Player-First” System, Recoil of Alpha Guns Shown Off

With how past Call of Duty games focusing more on microtransactions and loot boxes post-launch, some might be wondering what’s going to happen to Modern Warfare. While developer Infinity Ward says they’ll talk about the Modern Warfare microtransactions as we get near the game’s release date, the studio re-affirms it’s pushing for a “player-first” mentality for Modern Warfare.

In a video Q&A with Game Informer, a reader submitted the question regarding loot boxes, and here’s what Multiplayer Design Director Joe Cecot had to say.

Q: Let’s be real, there will be loot boxes in this game aren’t there?

Joe Cecot: Wer can’t really comment on MTX (microtransactions) or the systems for that. Like, right now, it’s all, “beta, beta beta, beta” and then launch the game. All I can say is that we’re pushing really hard to create a, y’know, player-first, or player-forward system. It’s something that’s really important to us on the development side. We want when we release new content for players to get access to that content and have fun with it, so it’s a huge focus for us, and we want players enjoying our game, and having fun in our game.

You can watch the clip of that right here via Reddit user x_Reign.

In other Modern Warfare news, Reddit user Zark- posted a video showcasing the guns available in the alpha and how their recoils work! While we only got to sample a handful of the guns available in the final game, there was still a varied lot available like assault rifles, handguns and more. Check it out below.

Managed to capture the recoil patterns of some of the guns that were in the Alpha. What do you guys think about the recoil in this game?
byu/Zark- inmodernwarfare

If you’ve played the Modern Warfare alpha, you surely would have noticed how the guns in the game have more recoil than in your usual Call of Duty game. Will franchise fans be OK with it? I sure hope so since it makes each gun feel different  as a whole. You can check out our alpha impressions right here.

Do you think Infinity Ward will be able to follow their “player-first” mentality for Modern Warfare or that’s a pipe dream at this point? What do you think of the recoil the studio is implementing for the guns? Sound off in the comments and let us know.

DICE: Star Wars Battlefront 2 Player Base Rising Month After Month After Geonosis Update

Released back in November 2017, Star Wars Battlefront 2 is one of those rare games that (arguably) got better after more than a year after it launched. Amid the controversy surrounding the game before it launched, it’s understandable that it wasn’t as well received by players as DICE might have hoped, and thus, the Star Wars Battlefront 2 player base suffered.

For those wondering when the game managed to turn things around, it’s when the Battle of Geonosis update hit back in November 2018 — at least according to DICE. In an interview conducted at gamescom, DICE Design Director of Star Wars Battlefront 2 Dennis Brannvall,

Q: Did you see the player base grow after some of the newer updates?Like after releasing your updates and after launch, did you see the Star Wars Battlefront 2 player base grow?

Dennis Brannvall: Prior to the Battle of Geonosis update last year, we were shrinking or stabilizing, and ever since we’ve seen a healthy growth month by month. I know the people are getting tired of it, and there’s going to be new stuff, but it was really…it’s been our saving grace for sure.

You can watch it below at around the 6:10 mark in the video.

For those playing Star Wars Battlefront 2, did you notice the player base growing or did it become smaller this year?

In other Battlefront 2 news, DICE says they’ve hit rock bottom after the loot box controversy surrounding the game, though player sentiment is now rising according to the studio. If you’re interested in some of the content headed to the game, check out the updated roadmap here.

If you’re a fan of online gambling, you might also check out Wetten.com. This isn’t only a platform for placing sports bets, but they also have an online casino with a large selection of the best casino slots, attractive bonuses and an always active Casino Tournament where you can find out how good you really are at playing casino games compared to other players.

H-Hour World’s Elite PS4 Version Is Still Planned for Development

While it’s been a long time since we last reported on H-Hour: World Elite, the team over at SOF studio has finally given an update on the H-Hour World’s Elite PS4 version, and apparently it is still very much alive.

Taking the Twitter, SOF Studio has detailed a bit of their plans, saying that the team is still working on finishing the PC version, in which they will then begin work on the PlayStation 4 version.

This comes as a surprise for many following the game as it has been long thought that the PS4 version may have been abandoned. Thankfully it isn’t, although the worry now is that it may be to late for the title and some are even suggesting that the team should potentially move over to a PlayStation 5 version instead when the title is finished on PC.

The game is heavily influenced by the PlayStation 2 classic series, SOCOM and for that many were and may still be excited for the project. And despite the Creative Director of the original SOCOM series, David Sears leaving the company back in 2014 for personal reasons, that hasn’t slowed down SOF, as they have been constantly been updating the title along with supporting its active community. The game has already received its Unreal Engine 4 overall, along with in-game custom map building for the community to recreate some of their favorite SOCOM maps along with originals ones.

H-Hour: World’s Elite is currently available on Steam early access, no exact time frame was given for the PlayStation 4 release, but once we know more, we’ll let our readers know.

Destiny 2 New Exotics Spotted in Shadowkeep PAX West Demo

Given bow much of Destiny 2’s endgame hinges on builds, and having the most powerful stuff, any new Destiny 2 exotic item is sure to be a big deal. It seems a bunch of Destiny 2 new exotics was spotted at PAX West where the game’s upcoming expansion — Shadowkeep — was being shown off!

Reddit user VON_TAR posted an image of a as-of-yet unnamed new Destiny 2 exotic LMG. While it doesn’t have a name currently, its perk is listed as “This weapon fires single shot explosive rounds.” According to the poster, “It fires like an instant linear fusion, and has no drop off. 150 to the body, 1 shot headshots. It is semi automatic, has 3 in the mag (max 13) and is extremely satisfying to use.” Her’s images of the weapon and its stats.

Note that this LMG seems to be the new exotic weapon teased by Bungie back in July by showing the real-life version of it.

Reddit user xhelbrechtx posted an image of a new Destiny 2 exotic rocket launcher called “Deathbringer” which has the exotic perk called “Dark Deliverance” that “Fires remotely detonated projectiles that drop Void orbs on enemies. Hold (left mouse button) to fire, release to detonate.”

Next up, Reddit user tehr0b posted a new Destiny 2 exotic trace rifle called “Divinity,” which is part of the Black Garden raid collection shown off at the PAX West demo. It has the exotic perk “Judgment,” which is about “Sustained damaged with this weapon envelops the target in a field that weakens and disrupts them.”

Not only that, but tehr0b also posted the entire Black Garden collection items too!

Finally, Reddit user TheEpsilonist, the Destiny 2 new Warlock exotic is called “Stormdancer’s Brace,” and has the exotic perk called “Ascending Amplitude,” which means “Each enemy you defeat with Stormtrance increases the damage you deal with Stormtrance.”

Whew! That’s a lot of new Destiny 2 exotics, no? Shadowkeep will be out this October 1, 2019 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Are you excited for the new exotics or were you expecting more?

Make sure to check out the changes Bungie is making to seasons right here.

PEGI Defends NBA 2K20 Rating Amid Casino-Like Trailer Surfaces

In case you didn’t know, 2K Games released an NBA 2K20 trailer just this past week (which we’ve embedded below) that featured NBA 2K20 casino-like slot machines, and other gambling machinations presented as mini games to showcase the new features in MyTeam.

It’s gotten so out of hand that some gamers emailed the PEGI (Pan European Game Information) organization since the trailer seems too close to gambling for comfort, and the NBA 2K franchise caters to games rated for children to adults (PEGI 3). Well, PEGI has responded, and ti seems they’re in 2K Games’ side on this. Here’s their statement in full:

We have seen the announcement trailer of NBA 2K20 and noticed the controversy it has caused. We feel it is important to carefully explain when certain content is triggering the gambling descriptor in the PEGI system, but also to show when it does not at this moment.

A video game gets the gambling content descriptor if it contains moving images that encourage and/or teach the use of games of chance that are played/carried out as a traditional means of gambling.

We use a help text to clarify this in more detail: This refers to types of betting or gambling for money that is normally played/carried out in casinos, gambling halls, racetracks. This does not cover games where betting or gambling is simply part of the general storyline. The game must actually teach the player how to gamble or bet and/or encourage the player to want to gamble or bet for money in real life.

For example, this will include games that teach the player how to play card games that are usually played for money or how to play the odds in horse racing.

It is important to stress that the controversial imagery played a central role in the trailer, but it may not necessarily do so in the game, which has not yet been released.

At this point in time, PEGI can only comment on the trailer that has been made publicly available.

The trailer includes imagery that is generally known from casinos (wheel of fortune, slot machines). Using this sort of mechanic to select an item, or character, or action by chance is not the same as teaching how to gamble for money in a casino. These differences currently prevent us from applying the gambling descriptor. But we are very aware that it may get too close for comfort for some people, and that is part of an internal discussion that PEGI is having for the moment. The games industry is evolving constantly (and rapidly in recent years). As a rating organisation, we need to ensure that these developments are reflected in our classification criteria. We do not base our decisions on the content of a single trailer, but we will properly assess how the rating system (and the video games industry in general) should address these concerns.

Kind regards,

PEGI Consumer Affairs

In case you’re curious, here’s the trailer, which features loot box mechanics, and the like. Note that the video us currently unlisted, due to negative backlash, and is now sitting at over 17,000 dislikes.

PEGI’s explanation is that while the trailer might feature casino-like elements, it doesn’t necessarily teach people how to gamble or encourage people to gamble, which would then necessitate a gambling descriptor.

While PEGI might have a point, this trailer for NBA 2K20 kinda crosses the line in terms, in my opinion. At this point, it’s just flat out advertising the gambling aspect more so than the game or its features. Will 2K Games cave and change this? Let’s hope they do.

NBA 2K20 release this September 6 on the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

DICE GM Apologizes for Battlefield 5 Content Shortcomings, Cites Battlefront 2 as Example of Studio’s Commitment

Just this past week, DICE issued an apology and explanation to some of the promised content that has yet to materialize in Battlefield 5. While some of the Battlefield 5 missing content is due to a marketing blunder, that still doesn’t absolve the studio from not delivering on its promise to the game’s community.

Over on Twitter, DICE GM (General Manager) Oskar Gabrielson gave a statement apologizing to the game’s community, thanking fans, and giving Star Wars Battlefront 2 as an example of the studio’s long-term commitment to its games and community.

BF community – I know you are frustrated and disappointed with the experience across Chapter 4 for Battlefield V. I’m really sorry. We’re taking a step back to improve the quality of BFV, and as a result, making needed changes to our roadmap.

Ryan covered some of this last week. We’re shifting out some content from Chapter 4, and we’re stepping back from our 5v5 mode, to focus the team on our core Battlefield experience. This was not an easy decision, but the right one to get the game to quality.

I hope the work we’ve put into Battlefront II is a testament to our long-term commitment to our games and our communities. We’ll get Battlefield V back on track and make it the awesome game you all deserve. We’ll provide updates along the way. Thank you for hanging in there.

While the community might not be happy with how DICE has handled post-launch content so far, at least the studio is apologizing for it. Hopefully, the studio can do enough to win back the community’s trust back. If the studio can do what it’s doing now for Battlefront 2, then that could still happen.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Ranked Play Won’t Be Available at Launch Confirms Infinity Ward

If you’re one of the players who relishes in ultra competitive multiplayer matches, and was hoping you’d be able to partake in that come Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s launch, you’ll have to wait. Infinity Ward has confirmed that Modern Warfare ranked play won’t be available at the game’s launch.

In an hour-long Q&A with Game Informer, Studio Narrative Director Taylor Kurosaki, and Multiplayer Design Director Jo Cecot answered a ton of questions, and one of them was about Modern Warfare ranked play.

Q: Will ranked play be available at launch?

A: I don’t know about that one. That’s something that’s very important to us and we’re working on. But as we’re finishing up the game, we’re figuring out what’s on and what’s not. We have a pretty aggressive post-launch plan, and we have a bunch of pieces that we’ll be able to play with, but we don’t know what’s going to be on it yet.

You can watch Joe Cecot talk about it in the 26:15 mark of the video below.

While this might be a bummer for some, don’t forget that most Call of Duty games didn’t have it at launch, either. If I remember correctly, Black Ops 4 implemented it three months after launch.

In other Modern Warfare news, Infinity Ward says that they will talk about in-game microtransactions as we get closer to launch. Also of note, Modern Warfare will have a beta this coming September, and leaked info says that it will be at 60GB.

Are you bummed out with Modern Warfare not having ranked play at launch or it’s not that big of a deal for you?

Marvel’s Avengers Captain America Gets the Spotlight in This Character Profile Video

While Square Enix has already shown us our first official gameplay look at Marvel’s Avengers, the publisher has now started what I presume to be a recurring series showcasing some of the game’s main heroes. For the debut episode, we get to see the leader himself, Captain America, take center stage!

Check out the super short Marvel’s Avengers Captain America character profile video below.

We get to see Steve Rogers’ (Captain America’s real-world name), vital stats, a quick look at his armor, and of course, snippets of gameplay.

Who will we see next? If I was a betting man, I’d say Iron Man will be the next one getting his own profile video, and we’ll share it once it’s out.

Marvel’s Avengers is set to assault the PS4, Xbox One, and PC this coming May 15, 2019.

Report: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Beta File Size to Be at 60GB

Reliable Call of Duty leakder and YouTuber TheGamingRevolution is at it again! With the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare alpha now a distant memory, we now have the beta to look forward to this September. It seems TheGamingRevolution has now leaked the Modern Warfare beta file size!

Over on Twitter, he mentions that the Modern Warfare beta file size will be a whopping 60GB, and what’s more, the current level cap set by Infinity Ward is at 30 (for the beta).

https://twitter.com/thegamingrevoyt/status/1167250676537266176

Why the big size? Apparently, the beta will include 70 percent of the multiplayer, which is a big chunk of the game.

Obviously, this is not info coming from Activision or Infinity Ward officially, so take it with a grain of salt. That said, he has been accurate in almost all of his leaks regarding Modern Warfare so far, and we’re giving him the benefit of the doubt in this one because of it.

Check out the full Modern Warfare beta FAQ if you have any other questions.

Borderlands 3 Roadmap for 2019 and Endgame Content Detailed

As part of today’s PAX West Borderlands 3 show, Gearbox Software not only revealed the Borderlands 3 2019 roadmap, but also some of the endgame activities players will be able to do once they’re finished in the main campaign!

Check out the Borderlands 3 roadmap for 2019 below, which includes campaign DLC!

Also outlined in the press release sent out are endgame content like True Vault Hunter Mode, Guardian Rank, and the introduction of the all-new Mayhem Mode!

GUARDIAN RANK

If you’re familiar with previous Borderlands’ Badass Rank system, the basic idea is the same: you can unlock incremental stat improvements that apply to all your Vault Hunters. As you gain experience, you fill a special Guardian Rank XP bar. Every bar you fill unlocks a Guardian Token, which you can spend to unlock bonus stats across three distinct trees. The further you progress, the better the rewards available to you.

TRUE VAULT HUNTER MODE

This is Borderlands 3’s take on New Game+. The enemies will be tougher and the loot will be better compared to your Normal mode conquests. Whether you select Normal or True Vault Hunter when starting up a new campaign, your character’s mission progress is unique to each playthrough. However, your Vault Hunters’ stats and equipment are shared across both modes.

MAYHEM MODE

After completing the campaign, you’ll activate a mysterious terminal aboard Sanctuary III that offers three Mayhem Mode difficulty levels. Enabling one of these Mayhem Modes ups the ante on risks and rewards across all worlds: enemies get increased health, shields, and armor, while you get bonus cash, Eridium, experience gains, and chances for better loot (including “Anointed” gear).

Mayhem Mode also applies a random selection of modifiers called Mayhem Mods to every planet you visit. For instance, you might get a Mayhem Mod like “You’re a Wizard,” which reduces the damage players do with normal bullets but increases their elemental damage.

Make sure to read up on Circle of Slaughter and Proving Grounds content right here.

Borderlands 3 will loot its way out this September 13 on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Gears 5 Launch Maps Trailer Shows Off Distinct Multiplayer Arenas

In the latest trailer for the game, the Gears 5 launch maps for multiplayer have been revealed by The Coalition. The maps each offer a unique gameplay style for players to master, or make work for them as they crush enemies with their proven tactics. Check out the trailer below and read on for more information.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=8&v=nXG-HfWdy0A

Wile Gears 5 will launch with classic arena style maps for versus modes, it will also launch with five hive maps, which are specially designed for Escape mode, the brand new multiplayer mode in Gears 5. In total, Gears 5 will launch with eleven maps, with more planned to release post-launch as the multiplayer community develops.

Asylum

Asylum is a gothic nighttime map that has a train cutting straight across it. This divides the map into three unique lanes. The map is filled with beautiful architecture, and unnerving interiors such as beds where patients have been strapped down in order for doctors to perform experiments on them.

Bunker

Bunker is the largest versus arena style map, and is set in an old Pendulum Wars base. An old munition loading conveyor can be controlled by manning the battlements above, and taking down enemies from behind some fairly decent cover. It looks like there are several buildings that players can hold up in should they be caught out by the enemy squad.

District

District is a glitzy entertainment area of a brand new COG settlement, and it’s just the place for all out warfare. A cinema has the perfectly placed cover to provide intense duels, while a Juice Bar and Visitor Centre divide the map in two, with each one operating as a control point for one or both teams.

Exhibit

What makes Exhibit individual is that it’s the first asymmetrical map in Gears 5. Exhibit is set in the halls of a new COG museum, filled with specimens from throughout the Gears of War series that will make your skin crawl. The top lane’s exhibits have pressure controlled lasers that will be set off should players act carelessly, and if they ignore the lasers they’ll die a quick and painful death.

Icebound

Icebound is an outsider trading post that was build on the shores of a frozen lake, on the skeleton of a Riftworm. That doesn’t sound like a great place to do business if you ask me. The map has an elemental factor to it, the ice beneath player’s feed. Should players shoot the ice, it will create a pool or freezing water. Any players who run through this ice water will slowly freeze, and take damage over time until they perish.

Training Grounds

Training Grounds is a DB Industries testing facility used to improve the robot army of COG. High points such as the tower and ramparts offer perfect rifle positions that overlook the winding low maze of defences that make up the lower section of the facility. This is almost certainly a map where a player will always be visible, and require the best teamwork in order to conquer.

Vasgar

Vasgar is a dilapidated airport, and the second asymmetrical map in Gears 5. Two strong defence positions on each side look to make this a map where teams battle over single points for minutes at a time, with neither side losing lives quickly. An area of cover offers a chance to flank enemies, but is easily defended. The sandglass centre however, is completely open, but offers a straight run at the enemy team’s position.

The Hive

The Hive is an Escape mode map that was first shown at E3 2019. Here players will escape from the depths of a Swarm hive, fighting countless Swarm enemies along the way.

The Descent

The Descent is a three act Hive that players must fight their way down in to begin with, reaching the caves on the third level. From there they need to fight their way back up, competing with an ever-growing horde of Swarm along the way.

The Mines

The Mines offers a choice to players as to which way they will fight their way through this particular Hive. Players must reach the branch but then choose quickly which way they will fight on, in order to set the fastest time.

The Gauntlet

The Gauntlet is a one act Hive with three epic fights. Each fight the players work though will be made all the more terrifying with a huge enemy at their backs, Venom.

Map Builder

In addition to the eleven maps that Gears 5 will launch with, players can build custom maps using the map builder, boasting over fifty tiles for players to create with. In the future, players will be able to share their maps with everyone in the Gears 5 community, and compete in hectic matches set within those user-generated maps.

Xbox Live Down for the Second Time in 4 Weeks (Update)

Update:

Yep, it’s back up now! Here’s what the Xbox Support account had to say:

Original Story:

Just a few weeks ago, Microsoft had some Xbox Live down issues that took more than a day to sort out. Well, unfortunately, it seems the service is down yet again! This was first noticed by the people on the Xbox subreddit who posted that Xbox Live down time is happening yet again, with people from Europe, US, etc., all reporting the same thing: that Xbox Live is down for them.

The official Xbox Support Twitter account acknowledged the issue stating that Microsoft is aware of the issues and that they’re looking into it.

On the official Xbox Live status page, it says that services are “limited” for the Xbox Live core services. This means players won’t be able to sign in, and of course, play. Once we know more, we’ll update the post.

In other, and much better Xbox news, go check out this September’s Games With Gold selection here, or check out this week’s Deals With Gold if you’re looking to buy something.

CryEngine 5.6 Trailer Showcases New Capabilities of the Engine

Crytek has showcased some of the new features of their game engine in the CryEngine 5.6 trailer that they recently released. The trailer focuses on some of the most powerful elements of the engine, whilst also pointing out some of the smaller capabilities that exist natively within the technology. Check out the trailer below and read on for more details.

The trailer focuses on a lot of the elements being used in Hunt: Showdown. Firstly we can see the realtime volumetric fog in use, which allows for beams of light to realistically shine through the thick and eerie fog. Sunlight Shafts are also showcased later in the trailer, detailing just how accurately the engine represents real life in these incredibly natural settings. Next we’re shown another lighting effect, this time dynamic lighting. The video of someone holding a lantern and hobbling behind various objects and chains makes the light flicker and disappear as you’d expect it to in real life.

Another core feature of Hunt: Showdown is creeping through tall grass and plants. CryEngine 5.6 has even more realistic vegetation bending, giving players the feel that their character is actually moving through organic matter, rather than seeing the vegetation awkwardly bend before they reach it.

Object-Based Motion Blur is highlighted with one of Hunt: Showdown’s smaller enemies. The disgusting spider moves so fast that its legs seem to blur, but with the realistic representation of motion blur makes it look visceral instead of fake. This motion blur works in tandem with the environment, which appears to be far more realistic than in most other games. This is down to Mesh and Terrain Blending, which allows for textures in the game world to blend in a realistic way.

A plethora of other features are also detailed in the trailer, such as accurate rope simulation, ribbon particle effects, realistic chain and fabric movements, and so much more. With this update it seems as though CryEngine is far more capable than many other engines out there, with more than 1,000 updates in just version 5.6. While no hint of a new Crysis game was shown, a series Crytek are well known for, the environments shown looked as though they could have been from an updated version of Crysis 3, which is set in lush jungle environments.

Many have watched this trailer and believe that a Crysis remake is on the way. However, Crytek has made no announcements of this at the time of writing.

Destiny 2 Seasons Update Coming to the Game in Year 3

Bungie have outlined their plans for the Destiny 2 seasons update, and how they are going to work in the game in year 3, which begins on October 1, 2019 when the Shadowkeep expansion launches. For year 2 the season pass was named the ‘Annual Pass’, and gave players access to all the upcoming seasons for the year ahead. With year 3 this is set to change to allow players to pick and choose the premium content they pay to access.

Seasons Have a Start and an End

Bungie has confirmed that from the next season in Destiny 2, Season of the Undying, every season will have a start and end point. What this means is that there won’t be lingering activities, enemies, and story plot holes floating around once the next season starts. Season of the Undying starts with the Vex returning to the Black Garden and awakening something new there. The season will end with a portal being closed, and the system being safe from that threat once more. However, with the following season, the Season of Dawn, a new event will kickstart the new season.

This is the new flow of content for Destiny 2, and it brings a new way of purchasing that content. Last year players purchased the Annual Pass to access all seasons on a premium level. This year players will purchase a pass for each season, a season pass. Bungie hasn’t outlined how much these season passes will cost, but time will tell exactly how much players will need to spend in order to access the premium content each season.

Seasonal Artifacts

gate-lords-eye

Every season will bring an Artifact with it. These items can be upgraded throughout the season in order to unlock seasonal mods, which will allow players to customise their characters on a much deeper level. The Artifacts, and the mods attached to them, will most likely gear players towards being more efficient in seasonal activities, since they’re season-specific. At the end of each season, the Artifact and mod for that season will disappear, or be destroyed. A new Artifact to upgrade throughout the season will be given with the start of that new season.

Bungie has implemented this change in the hopes that it will allow for seasonal-specific builds to be created and remain optimal for that season only. Currently there are many optimal builds for every activity, and Bungie wants things to change more regularly.

Season XP Progression

destiny-2-season-ranks

Currently every player who reaches level 50 in Destiny 2 can only earn XP towards a cosmetic engram every few levels. With year 3, a new XP progression system is being introduced. As you can see in the image above, Bungie is taking a leaf out of Epic Games’ book, and going with a Fortnite style season progression UI. This isn’t a bad thing at all, and it confirms how seasons seem to work as well. Every season there will be 100 ranks to earn, and XP towards those is earned from every activity in Destiny 2. Bungie say this change is being made to make reaching the best rewards, and rank 100, more attainable for players who can’t dedicate dozens of hours a week to the game. They say that, based on their player data, someone who plays as and when they can from day one of the season should be able to reach rank 100 by the end. To help with this, around the end of each season there will be a seasonal XP boost period to help those who need it.

The free seasonal content will drop every few ranks, but those with a season pass will get something for every rank of progression. It looks as though everything from gear and weapons, to legendary shards, glimmer, and engrams has been included in seasonal rewards.

Season of the Undying

Finally, Bungie gave us a glimpse at what those who purchase a season pass can get every season. They demonstrated this by outlining exactly what those who purchase the Season of the Undying season pass will receive.

  • New seasonal activity, Vex Offensive. From this players can earn four new legendary weapons, complete additional daily and weekly bounties, and a new weekly challenge with powerful rewards.
  • A quest for the Exotic Hand Cannon Eriana’s Vow. This is awarded at rank 35 of the free seasonal track, but season pass owners get it at rank 1.
  • A quest for the Exotic Bow Leviathan’s Breath. This quest and the weapon it awards are exclusive to the premium season pass.
  • Three seasonal legendary armor sets. One set is accessed in the first 25 ranks of the free season pass, but on the premium track all three sets are accessed at rank 1.
  • Other additional premium track rewards include a universal ornament armor set for each class, an Exotic weapon ornament for Eriana’s Vow, two legendary weapon ornaments, a new finisher, a new Exotic emote, and an Exotic ship.

Our Take

Bungie is investing in their payer base with this switch to season passes. Every season in Destiny 2 year 2 added new content, but it also bloated the game far beyond what was sustainable. With the new system the seasonal content will be relevant for that season, and disappear when it no longer is. This will make some items rarer than they have been to date, but that only adds to the grind that so many players love. The biggest advantage to the season passes is that those who don’t always have time to play a season, such as those with young families, can choose to purchase a season they know they’ll play. This removes the feeling that money is wasted when a season drifts by and a player has barely experienced it with the Annual Pass.
