Sony Restructuring to Focus More on First-Party Titles

Sony PlayStation exclusive getting a shot in the arm!

As if PlayStation gamers don’t have it made now, Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that it plans to restructure at the start of April to focus more on first-party games.

In a press release, Sony mentioned that this refocusing will allow the publisher to “remain competitive and deliver on its commitment to make PlayStation the Best Place to Play.” Starting April 1, Sony Interactive Entertainment president Shawn Layden  “will concentrate his focus on WWS continuing to provide platform-defining content that helps drive the growth of SIE.”

Alongside Sony Interactive Entertainment America, Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe, Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Asia will all report to Sony Interactive Entertainment Deputy President and Head of Global Sales and Marketing, Jim Ryan.

This is definitely good news for PlayStation gamers, no? And it’s not like the PS4 is starving with first-party titles. Just this year, gamers will have exclusives like God of War, Detroit: Become Human, Marvel’s Spider-Man and more to look forward to.

If you don’t have a PS4, now might be a good time to rethink picking one up.

Fortnite Future Update to Bridge Battle Royale and Save the World Controls

Having two different control schemes for a single game can be a real pain. It’s annoying having to relearn how to play a game, just because you’ve switched modes. Well, for many Fortnite players, switching between Save the World and Battle Royale can be frustrating, as each changes up which buttons do what.

Happily, Epic Games is working to lessen the confusion, and make controls between the two games more similar.

In an email response to USgamer, Epic Games’ Darren Sugg explained that the Fortnite team are working on an update to “bring parity to the control schemes between the two modes.”

Here’s Sugg’s full email response:

Yes, we’re working on bringing parity to the control schemes between the two modes. Because Save the World features class-based abilities that require additional buttons, it’s not as easy as simply adapting the default Battle Royale, “Combat Pro” control scheme. The team has some ideas, though, so players should see updates in the future.

In other Fortnite news, the double pump strategy has returned, Josh Hart got some custom Fortnite shoes, and this custom hoverboard track looks incredible.

Destiny 2 1.1.4 Update Crucible Changes Revealed: 6v6 Iron Banner, Rumble FFA and More

During the Bungie weekly update, PvP Design Lead Derek Carroll offered a preview at the competitive multiplayer changes being implemented with the upcoming Destiny 2 1.1.4 update.

The changes include a 6v6 Iron Banner mode, the return of Rumble FFA, and more.

Read the full Destiny 2 1.1.4 update multiplayer details below:

The PvP team has been on fire these past few weeks, filling Update 1.1.4 with as much awesomeness as we can. Our beloved Test team is right there with us in the labs as we put the new content through its paces.

Some highlights:

Iron Banner will channel that old-school Crucible in the style of the Iron Lords. We’ve made a number of tweaks to the gameplay besides increasing team sizes to 6v6:

  • Match time limit is 12 minutes
  • Score limit is 125 points
  • Respawn time is 7 seconds
  • All control zones start off neutral
  • Control zones take slightly longer to capture by default
  • Additional Guardians (max of 3) in a zone increases capture speed
  • Guardians participating in a capture get more Super energy

Rumble will make its triumphant return, with no excuses, no complications, and absolutely no points for “assists”. You get a single point when you get a kill, just like in the golden age of video games. Oh, and this time, we increased the player count to eight.

Mayhem is still Mayhem.

These three modes will share a central location on the Crucible Director page, and rotate weekly to keep things fresh. This Weekly Featured playlist will be home to gametypes that don’t necessarily fit into the existing Quickplay or Competitive playlists.

The Mode Formerly Known as “Doubles” is in its chrysalis, making a slow transition from what you played during Crimson Days to become a beautiful butterfly. We love the way it played in Crimson Days, but felt like we could take it further and give it more polish and flexibility. Once we lock that down, we’ll release it into the Weekly Featured rotating playlist with the other fun stuff. For now, we are unsure of a release date, but we’ll add it the Road Map when we are more certain of when it will land.

There are, of course, other cool features coming in 1.1.4 that will make everyone’s lives better (unless they’re habitual quitters), and we’ll be sure to talk more about them as launch day approaches.

In other Destiny 2 news, several top Destiny YouTubers have lessened their support of the game, Bungie is hiring a new community manager, and the developer explains the faction rewards throttle and incoming adjustments. It also appears that the Destiny 2 Gods of Mars expansion has leaked (again)!

Report: Battlefield 2018 Will Have Loot Boxes

Battlefield 2018 loot boxes confirmed??! Apparently so.

With yesterday’s big leak that Battlefield 2018 will most likely be called “Battlefield V” and be set in World War 2, some might be wondering if there are other surprises set to be leaked soon.

Well, as it turns out, that’s a yes — though it’s one that will surprise anyone.

According to USGamer’s sources, Battlefield V will have loot boxes “but cosmetic only.” This is a big deal since last year’s DICE-developed game, Star Wars Battlefront II, was the major culprit in gamers’ eyes when it comes to predatory loot boxes.

This isn’t the first time the Battlefield franchise will employ loot boxes in the game. Battlefield 1, the latest DICE-developed Battlefield game, also had loot boxes called “Battlepacks” but it only featured cosmetics, double XP buffs, and nothing that affected gameplay directly. Also of note, there’s supposedly more customization options for soldiers in Battlefield V “than in previous games,” which won’t be that hard to top given how in-depth customization was in Battlefield 4.

Additional stuff from USGamer’s sources state that DICE has settled on going back in history years ago, but didn’t want to start with WWII right away as to not “waste” the setting.

I’m honestly not surprised that Battlefield V will allegedly feature loot boxes once again. If it’s anything like previous entries’ Battlepacks, then it shouldn’t cause any issues among gamers. Let’s hope EA has learned their lesson from SWBFII and doesn’t try anything slimy again.

Fortnite 3.1.1 Update Is Live, Here’s What It Does

The Fortnite 3.1.1 update is now live across PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Unlike the previous update, which implemented a huge number of changes, the 3.1.1 update only aims to fix one thing: the client crashes that some players are experiencing.

It’s a small update which makes a minor fix. What’s great, is that it doesn’t require any downtime. However, players may need to restart the game for the patch to take effect.

Epic Games tweeted out details of the Fortnite 3.1.1 update on the game’s official Twitter account:

Are you a fan of the speedy support that Epic Games is providing? The team is certainly responding quickly to player issues, which I’m sure many will appreciate, especially before the weekend.

In other Fortnite news, the double pump strategy has returned, Josh Hart got some custom Fortnite shoes, and this custom hoverboard track looks incredible.

The Division Celebrates Second Anniversary by Reaching 20 Million Player Milestone

There’s a lot that can be said about Ubisoft’s shared world shooter The Division — both good and bad. With the changes Ubisoft has made since launch, most of them have been steps in the right direction.

It seems the changes Ubisoft has made resonated with players as The Division is still going strong even after two years since release, which is almost unheard of when it comes to online multiplayer games.

In a press release, Ubisoft announced that The Division is celebrating its second anniversary, and what’s more, it has now reached the 20-million player milestone since launch! As a way of saying thanks, Ubisoft is planning a month of in-game activities planned, which include four Global Events from March 1-29, with one global event set to roll out per week. Those not familiar with Global Events, it’s a feature in The Division that alters the game experience by adding various modifiers while providing players special cosmetic and gameplay rewards for participating.

Players can tune in to the official Division Twitch channel (www.twitch.tv/thedivisiongame) for their Daily gameplay streams and Weekly State of the Game at 8:00am PST for Twitch Drops – in-game rewards for livestream viewers that will run continuously throughout the month of March. Viewers who spend more than 30 minutes (continuous viewership not required) watching the livestream will automatically unlock prizes, as long as players have linked their Ubisoft/Twitch accounts.

Before its launch, Tom Clancy’s The Division broke the record with the largest Beta phases for a new franchise (6.4 million players). At launch, Tom Clancy’s the Division became the fastest-selling new franchise within the gaming industry. Since its launch, the teams released three expansions and nine significant updates that included new gameplay modes, Dark Zone map expansions, new incursions, gameplay rebalancing and quality of life improvements along with a wealth of customization options and live activities. Most recently, Massive studio released Update 1.8 – Resistance in December 2017, which signified a new step forward into making the current version of the game, the best it has even been. Update 1.8 was the biggest free content update so far, doubling player engagement and generating positive feedback amongst the player community. “We are very proud of what we have achieved during these past 2 years. Listening and giving back to the community has always been our first objective and we would like to thank all The Division players for their valuable feedback and their support,” said Julian Gerighty, Creative Director. Today, Tom Clancy’s The Division contains a number of different modes, including multiple PvE activities, two PvP game modes, a heart pumping survival mode, continuous live activities like Global Events and Double Reward Weekends, and much more. All of this, plus Massive team’s dedication to listening to players illustrates perfectly Ubisoft’s commitment and engagement to offer them the most unique experiences.

Are you ready to jump back into the post-apocalyptic New York of The Division? What makes you coming back to the game after two years?

Xbox One Spring Update Now Available to Alpha Ring Xbox Insiders

As Spring looms around the corner, those who are a part of the Xbox One Insider can start expecting a new Xbox One experience to be available soon. That is, if you happen to be in the Alpha ring for the Xbox One Insider Program.

Those in it, can expect numerous of QoL (quality of life) improvements for Microsoft’s console such as being able to output both games and media to 1440p if you own either an Xbox One S or Xbox One X. However, that’s not all Microsoft has planned with the upcoming Spring update, as they’re adding yet another feature to their Mixer streaming service, which will let viewers and streamer interact even more. This, of course, is the implementation of being able to share your controller with your viewers if you happen to be streaming.

For the details of what this new Xbox One experience adds, you can check out the details below:

Spring Update Features:

Support for 1440p Video Output

  • Xbox One X and Xbox One S now support output at 1440p resolution for games and media; 1440p resolution, sometimes referred to as “2560×1440” and “QHD,” is a popular choice for PC users. With over a million and a half more pixels than 1080p, this resolution fills the gap between Full HD and 4K.

New Level of Mixer Interactivity

  • Introducing a new form of Mixer interactivity: Share controller. Soon, Mixer streamers on Xbox One will have the option of sharing their controller with a Mixer viewer who is watching through Mixer.com. Streamers can share their entire controller (except the Xbox button) in the Xbox game they are playing, and a viewer can take control through the on-screen gamepad or by plugging a controller into their PC. Viewer and streamer can work together in the game, or the viewer can cause trouble – resulting in hilarious chaos. It’s your choice!
  • Share controller isn’t the only new feature for Mixer in this release. Broadcasts no longer stop when you switch games. Your Mixer stream will now pause when you switch games or exit to the dashboard; your viewers will see a pause screen until you jump back into a game, and you’ll see an indicator on your broadcasting overlay to let you know that your stream has been paused automatically. Additionally, you can now start your Mixer broadcasts from anywhere on Xbox One, whether you are on the dashboard, a game’s splash screen or within a game.

The Cutting Edge

  • The Microsoft Edge browser on Xbox One has been updated to a new look that’s modern but still feels familiar. We know how important a good web browsing experience is for you, so we’ve doubled down on making Microsoft Edge easy to navigate with a controller. Improvements to the Favorites and History experience make it simple for you to return to your favorite sites. We’re also very excited to announce that you can now download and upload pictures, music and videos from Microsoft Edge on the console; your downloaded content can then be browsed with the File Explorer app. Other new features to note are tab muting, read aloud and autofill. We’re always looking to improve the browsing experience on Xbox and look forward to your feedback.

More Immersive Audio

  • If you’re the type of person that loves to rock out to a music playlist while playing your favorite games, we have good news for you! You now have an option to selectively balance game audio against background music within the Guide. Turn down the game volume, crank up the music volume and rock on. But that’s not all. The system sounds on Home and in the Guide have been completely revamped to support spatial audio, so the audio cues from your surround sound system will match the actions you see on-screen.

Powerful Invite Filtering Tools for Club Owners

  • Club administrators can now filter invitation requests based on various criteria, including reputation, Gamerscore, and recommendations from existing club members. Are you setting up a club for hardcore PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds players? Set a filter to only show invitees with over 200 hours of playtime.  Maybe you’re looking for Gamerscore completionists in Forza Motorsport 7? Filter requests to only show invitees with over 900 Gamerscore. These filters will persist until the administrator changes them, so if you set or edit club filters, they’ll still be there the next time you sign-in. Club invitees will also now appear in a vertical list, with details such as their Gamertag, Gamerpic, Gamerscore, a line noting if the new invitees were recommended by an existing club member, and a reputation indicator.

Smarter Feeds

  • You will soon be able to sort your club feeds to show you “what’s hot” and “top posts.” Use the “what’s hot” filter to see trending content in the club feed that’s popular right now. Filtering by “top posts” will show you the most popular posts of all time in that club.
  • You will also soon be able to disable comments on your feed posts across clubs, Game Hubs, and Community, so the only person in control of the narrative is you. Finally, we’re cleaning up your feeds by hiding posts for broadcasts once they’ve ended.

Open Tournaments

  • Tournaments are now available directly in Game Hubs, so you don’t have to be a member of a club to start or join a tournament.
  • In the February update, we told you about a few more features that a subset of users may find – we call these “experiments.” We’re adding even more experiments to the Spring update. These features are only enabled for a portion of the Xbox Insider audience to gauge interest and collect feedback. Last month, we previewed a brand-new collection experience for Xbox Game Pass in My Games and Apps. This month, we’re revamping the experience for Xbox Live Gold as well! You’ll now have a dedicated tab to quickly view and access all your redeemed Games with Gold that you can install. Quickly scroll through all your previously redeemed games and install them with just two button presses.  All of this, and more, will be rolling out to Xbox Insiders over the coming weeks. Thank you, Xbox Insiders, for all your feedback. Your participation in the Xbox Insider Program helps us make the work-in-progress content and features coming to Xbox even better

Overall, at a glance a lot of these new features are definitely welcome changes, if I would say so myself., especially the new interactive options for Mixer, as it will help making friends out in difficult games a bit easier.

With Microsoft announcing what’s to come in the Spring update, what new feature would you like to see them implement in the near future? Let us know in the comment section below.

Report: Book Listing Might Have Accidentally Outed Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 3

With EA set to take the stage at its annual EA Play later this June, there’s bound to be a surprise announcement or two to shake things up. While we’ve already gotten what seems to be a leak of what this year’s Battlefield game will be called and which era it’s set in, it seems another leak might have just sprung up.

A book listing for Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare Volume 2 on Amazon has seemingly confirmed the existence of Garden Warfare 3! It mentions that author Paul Tobin returns to write the official comic book bridge between Garden Warfare 2 and Garden Warfare 3!

Important to note that this is not a confirmation that Garden Warfare 3 exists or is in development. It might be an error on the author’s part or something else. We’ve contacted EA to see what the score is, and will update the post if and when we get a response.

For now, take this “leak” with a bag of salt.

If you’re unfamiliar with the spin-off franchise, Garden Warfare is the franchise’s take on the shooter genre, with PopCap Games surprisingly pulling it off well enough that it got a better-than-expected sequel.

Would you want a new Garden Warfare game or should EA let the franchise wither and die?

The Blackout Club Co-Op Game Revealed by Ex-BioShock/Dishonored Creators

Combine the great minds behind games like BioShock and Dishonored and you get Question, a curiously-named development studio that is working on The Blackout Club.

Check out The Blackout Club announcement trailer below:

The Blackout Club follows a group of teens who bond over a shared secret. They’ve all been temporarily losing consciousness – sometimes for days at a time – and waking up in strange places with no memory of what they’ve been doing. During one such blackout, a friend of theirs mysteriously vanishes. No one believes them – not the police, not their teachers… not even their parents. The club’s only recourse is to launch an investigation on their own.

Together, they pull on a series of threads that hint at a grand conspiracy that may or may not have supernatural origins. The teens coordinate to elude detection as they search for their missing friend and investigate the cause of their uncontrollable blackouts. And yet, caution is not always enough; each teammate must put themselves in harm’s way to capture video evidence of their tormentors’ plans so they can expose their dark agenda to the world at large.

Report: Battlefield 2 Is Battlefield 2018, Set During WWII (Update)

Update:

While referred to as Battlefield 2 internally, the Battlefield 2018 release will be called Battlefield V“. GamesBeat has provided an image of the game’s logo, seen below:

Battlefield 2 Remake

Original Story:

In 2016, Battlefieldoffered a new portrayal of the wars waged during WWI, and now in 2018, if this new report is to be believed, it will be Battlefield 2 launching with a focus on the famous battles of WWII.

According to GamesBeat, who has received a tip from “sources familiar with EA’s plans, who wish to remain anonymous,” Battlefield 2 will not be a remaster of 2005’s game of the same name, but will instead be an entirely new Battlefield game.

EA and Battlefield developer DICE decided on this strategy several years ago. They knew they wanted to get away from the modern and near-future settings for a while, but it also didn’t want to burn the WWII setting right away. This led the studio to start with WWI knowing that it could always still go to WWII with the next game if Battlefield 1 didn’t work out.

Call of Duty: WWII proved that the demand for WWII shooters had returned, and so it’s not surprising that EA would decide to target the period.

It should also be noted that this isn’t the first time that we heard Battlefield 2018 would be set in WWII. Here’s what TheAlmightyDaq reported a while back.

Of course, until official confirmation, this should be taken with a pinch of salt.

We’ve reached out to EA for comment, and will update this post with any responses we receive.

Hi-Rez Claims Newly Revealed Overwatch Hero Looks Like Character From Paladins

Paladins vs Overwatch! Fight!

While Blizzard’s reveal of the new Overwatch hero — Brigitte — might have been met with a lot of excitement and praise from fans, that sentiment doesn’t seem to be shared by the people at Hi-Rez Studios, the developers behind free-to-play hero shooter, Paladins.

Over on Twitter, Hi-Rez Studios head honcho Stewart Chisam commented on the similarities between Overwatch’s Brigitte, and the studio’s own Ash.

Quick poll: If I happened to notice and point out any similarities between these two characters, would that make me the Pot calling the Kettle black, or the Kettle calling the Pot black? This will keep me up tonight unless I get a clear answer.

At first glance, Brigitte does look like Ash given their armors and all. Thought Brigitte uses a flail and not a gun like Ash. Having said that, it’s pretty apparent that Brigitte has been influenced by Reinhardt, which could be a strong case for Blizzard.

Do you think Blizzard copied Paladins this time or is this just a coincidence? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

PS Plus Free Games to Only Include PS4 Games and Nothing Else Starting Next Year

While Sony pulled a rabbit out of its hat with an amazing duo of games set to be available for PlayStation Plus members this March, it seems there’s a price to pay for all that awesomeness.

February 2019 will be the final month wherein players will be able to get six free games across the PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. Starting March 8, 2019, the PS Plus free games lineup will focus on just PS4 games, and will no longer include PS3 and Vita titles. Note that this won’t affect existing PS3 and Vita games you’ve already downloaded via PS Plus, but this also means that no PS3 and Vita games will be added to the monthly free offerings beyond March 8, 2019.

Sony has issued an explanation to this change, which you can read below (via PlaySation Blog):

Many of our fans are playing on the PS4 platform, with the increasingly vast number of PS4s in homes around the world. We’ll continue to prioritize the benefits you receive through your PS Plus membership, such as online multiplayer, online game save storage, PS4 monthly games, and exclusive PS Store discounts across content and network services. As a reminder, if you do not wish to continue your subscription, please be sure to cancel it by turning off auto-renewal in your account settings before March 8, 2019.

For further clarification, Sony has issued a statement to Polygon and has confirmed that starting February 2019, there will only be two free PS4 games per month.

Will this affect your PS Plus membership? Or is playing online multiplayer the main thing and the free games are just the cherry on the sundae?

  • We have added new group missions to all theaters. Currently the mission is ‘Fight the Storm’ with encounters designed for 4 players.
  • These missions allow 4 extra Defenders to be used.

  • Impulse Grenade has been added.

  • After inserting enough BluGlo for a difficulty bump, the voting window will appear.

  • If vote passes, the team can vote to increase the difficulty again immediately.
  • If the vote fails, a 45 second anti-spam timeout is put into effect before another vote can be taken. The deposited BluGlo will be returned to the player who initiated the vote.
  • Voting is not required in missions with only one player.

Patch 8: quick status update
byu/XboxNico inPUBGXboxOne

Hey folks,

Just wanted to let you all know that Patch 9 is now formally in test.

We are feeling pretty good about the quality of the patch and the incoming improvements to the player experience.

We are very motivated to get this into hands as soon as possible, however we also want to ensure that no glaring issues made their way into code.

Thanks for being patient with us, and you’ll hear back from me by the end of the week on release timing.

Unfortunately, that’s all we know so far. We don’t know the exact details on what tweaks are being made aside from the boat making non-boat noises.
