Sledgehammer Games Teases Something for Call of Duty: WWII With New Image

While Sledgehammer Games has revealed some of the potential upcoming weapon tweaks headed to Call of Duty: WWII, the studio isn’t done letting gamers know more is on the way.

Over on Twitter, the studio posted an image of a wall with quite a number of framed pictures adorning said wall with the word “Soon…” accompanying it.

It’s currently unknown what this is exactly for, but logical assumption would be is that it’s for the game’s first DLC drop, Resistance, which is scheduled to launch on the PlayStation 4 this January 30, with other platforms (Xbox One and PC), getting it a month after.

If not that, maybe new content for the Zombies mode? Maybe picture frames are being handed out in Supply Drops? Maybe stuffed deer heads will be part of Supply Drops in the future? Your guess is as good as mine (it’s most likely just referencing the expansion).

There’s still some double XP love going on for COD: WWII, so make sure to jump on that. We have a few features regarding WWII running this coming week, so make sure to keep an eye out for ’em.

Hi-Rez: “Battlegrounds” Term in Paladins: Battlegrounds Unrelated to PUBG

Just the other day, Hi-Rez Studios revealed Paladins: Battlegrounds, which is the studio’s take on the highly popular battle royale mode popularized by games such as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG).

With Hi-Rez using the term “battlegrounds” in its new mode, and focusing on battle royale, some might be seeing the name as too “on the nose,” or something of the sort. Well, apparently, the term doesn’t have anything to do with PUBG at all! At least according to Hi-Rez boss Stew Chisam.

In an interview, Chisam revealed that they sought the all-clear of their lawyers before going with the “Battlegrounds” name (they got it, of course), and the reason they chose the name is it’s an homage to MMOs. Additionally, Chisam believes the term “battlegrounds” is a generic one, which means it can’t be trademarked.

Regardless if Chisam is sincere at Paladins: Battlegrounds‘ name being unrelated to PUBG or not, I doubt the company who owns PUBG, Bluehole, is happy with it. We’ve already seen Bluehole take Epic Games to court due to similarities of Fortnite Battle Royale to PUBG, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it does the same with Paladins.

Thoughts on this? Do you think Chisam is being sincere or Hi-Rez simply just wants to jump in on the bandwagon and using the term “battlegrounds” is an easy way to catch people’s attention?

Rainbow Six Siege PC Patch Will Finally Fix Jager Exploit, Console Players Have to Wait

Over on the Rainbow Six Siege subreddit, developer “Ubitone” announced an upcoming patch that will finally fix the Jager exploit.

If you’re unaware of what “the Jager exploit” is, then count yourself lucky! Other frustrated players will tell you stories of how enemy Jager characters managed to both use their huge shield and fire at the same time, making them incredibly difficult to kill. And this has been going on for weeks!

Happily, for PC players at least, a fix is in the works, which should be live early next week. Console players, however, will have to wait even longer for a fix, with the developer blaming “aspects outside of [their] control.”

Here’s the full details of the upcoming patch and console delay:

As promised yesterday, we have finished validating the potential fix for the Jäger glitch. The fix works, and we are in the process of preparing a build to be deployed next week.

We do not have an exact date for this deployment yet, but are targeting earlier in the week.

Unfortunately, for our console players, there are aspects outside of our control that prevent us from being able to deploy a patch at this point in the year. As a result, we have included the fix in our next scheduled patch (Mid-Season Reinforcements). We are planning to begin the TTS testing for 4.2 next week.

What do you make of this fix? Happy to see Jager finally getting fixed? Let us know.

That’s “Amazing work! We’ll be in touch.” for those of who can’t view the embedded post.

If you’ve not seen the impressive Cairo map, definitely be sure to check out the video below:

If you’re wondering just how long a project like this takes, Joshua12g has the answer:

This Map took me about 2 months to finish, since I’m doing this together with my college thesis. I guess I’m doing this because I’m enjoying it, It’s like I’m also playing a game haha. But yeah I’m trying to explore on environment art since I’m a self taught 3D artist and I’m already creating pieces for my portfolio, gonna graduate soon haha.

That’s a lot of dedication! I’m glad that it got noticed by Blizzard.

What do you make of Cairo? Hoping it inspires a future Overwatch map? Let us know.

In other Overwatch news, a new update has landed on the PTR which targets Mercy and Junkrat with nerfs, and Season 8 has started, bringing some big changes to the game.

Epic Games Blames CPU Meltdown Vulnerability for Upcoming Fortnite Downtime

Next week, Epic Games will be updating the cloud services it uses to run Fortnite. These updates will likely cause issues with both Fortnite and Fortnite Battle Royale. It’s not known when issues may present themselves, so just be prepared to experience problems at any time over the next week.

The “Meltdown” CPU vulnerability is the cause for the emergency updates, as Epic Games has explained:

We wanted to provide a bit more context for the most recent login issues and service instability. All of our cloud services are affected by updates required to mitigate the Meltdown vulnerability. We heavily rely on cloud services to run our back-end and we may experience further service issues due to ongoing updates.

And here’s the warning regarding potential downtime during the coming week:

Unexpected issues may occur with our services over the next week as the cloud services we use are updated. We are working with our cloud service providers to prevent further issues and will do everything we can to mitigate and resolve any issues that arise as quickly as possible. Thank you all for understanding. Follow our twitter @FortniteGame for any future updates regarding this issue.

Epic Games’ troubles provide a great example of how the Meltdown patches, which cause an increase CPU performance, can drastically impact a big company. Individual users may not notice a chance, but large-scale businesses certainly do!

Valve Cancels Dota 2 Galaxy Battles 2018 in the Philippines Amid Privacy Concerns

Gaming is a worldwide past time, and in some areas of the world, gaming is a very big deal. This is the case for most countries in Asia where MOBA’s are the dominant video game genre played. One of these big MOBA games is none other than Valve’s Dota 2.

While countless video game events have been held in the Philippines, Valve has issued an update on the latest Galaxy Battles Major tournament. Long story short, the Dota 2 Galaxy Battles Major 2018 event in the Philippines is cancelled due to “privacy concerns.”

Check out the entire post below.

Based on information we’ve recently confirmed regarding new government regulations for esports players entering the Philippines, we have decided to rescind the tournament’s Major designation, including the Pro Circuit qualifying points, for the Galaxy Battles 2018 tournament. This is based on what we feel are unreasonable infringements on the privacy of the players, as a condition to enter the country. The tournament itself may still proceed, but without any involvement of Valve or the Dota Pro Circuit. This isn’t a reflection on how we feel about fans in the Philippines, and we are sorry for those that were planning on attending the event.

As a result, we’re talking to tournament organizers to try to find a way to run a Major with the invited and qualifying teams, including the Pro Circuit points that would have been available in Galaxy Battles 2018.

No word yet where the new location will be, but once we know, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

Steam Concurrent Users Reach 18 Million for the First Time Ever

We all know Valve’s digital storefront Steam is a pretty big deal, but none of us might have predicted it’d go over this well.

The Steam database Twitter account (not official, but reliable) posted that the Steam concurrent users reached 18 million today, with over seven million of those players, in an actual game! That’s insane, right?  At the time of this writing, here’s the stats:

Pretty impressive, right? For more Steam stats, check out the best-selling games of the year, along with a few other notable achievements. There’s also the Steam 2017 Awards, where the best games of the year are named.

Will Steam possibly take over the world? I wouldn’t bet against it, and our soon-to-be-overlord, Gaben.

Metal Gear Survive Will Have Aliens According to Game’s ESRB Rating

The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) is the group that rates all your favorite video games from E for everyone to M for mature, and it looks like the first Metal Gear game without famed game developer Hideo Kojima behind the reigns, Metal Gear Survive, will be rated M for mature. It also will include aliens? Yep, it seems to be.

The ESRB released its rating for the game and a summary of that rating that reveals a new enemy not announced by the developer and publisher Konami.

This is an action game in which players help a soldier find a way home after being transported through an alternate dimension. Players undertake missions to explore a hostile world, looking for resources to craft weapons/equipment and rescue other survivors. Along the way, players use pistols, machine guns, automated turrets, traps, and explosives to battle crystalline alien creatures and infected soldiers in frenetic firefights. Realistic gunfire, large explosives, and screams of pain are heard during combat. Large blood-splatter effects are depicted when characters are injured/killed; some environments depict large pools of blood underneath corpses. The word “sh*t” appears in the dialogue.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you’ll be able to play the Metal Gear Survive‘s beta, which launches on January 21 and is available to everyone. For those of you who won’t be able to make the beta and are interested in the finished product, Metal Gear Survive launches February 20, 2018.

Survival Game SCUM Uses Incredibly Realistic Wetness & Drying Systems

SCUM is set to enter Steam Early Access during the first few months of this year. This title has several key features which set it apart from other survival games out there. One of these features is the wetness and drying system, which sounds pretty boring, but is actually incredibly impressive.

Take a look at the gameplay video below to get a preview of how different clothes can keep players dry, how being wet can hinder your ability to survive, and more. Honestly, it’s really damn cool!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NB0QAuATSfc

If this is the first time you’ve heard of SCUM, here’s the lowdown on what it’s all about:

The world’s unquenchable need for entertainment has turned towards bloodlust as entertainment behemoth TEC1 is set to premiere season two of its television sensation SCUM. This new season moves the contest from the rugged, enclosed Alcatraz sector to the full grandure of Bagne de Cayenne, an island with a sordid history of violent incarceration. Both fan favorites and new prisoners will clash in a ruthless war of survival while battling for the support of viewers, producers, and corporate sponsors for fame, gifts, and a chance of life after death.

SCUM evolves the multiplayer open world survival game with unprecedented levels of character customization, control, and progression where knowledge and skills are the ultimate weapons for long-term survival. Players will balance base level needs with knowledge-based skills to manage everything from nourishment, metabolic rate, and body mass to weapons proficiency, combat style, and security systems hacking. Dominate the island with your skills, cunning, and strategies to achieve higher levels of game and receive powerful gifts from corporate sponsors and, if you happen to slip up and die, get resurrected by the show’s producers with all your valuable skills still intact.

What do you make of the wetness and drying system? Pretty cool, huh? Let us know.

New HTC Vive Reveal Coming January 8, Promises to Be a “New Year’s Resolution”

HTC may have some bad news for gamers who got a HTC Vive during the winter holidays, as the company has teased a big reveal scheduled for January 8.

Posting on the @HTCVive Twitter, the words “#NewYearsResolution” have been teased above the outline of a VR headset.

It isn’t clear what HTC will be revealing, but I’m expecting some kind of upgraded display. I doubt this will be a total 2.0 refresh, but hey, I suppose we can’t rule it out.

The announcement takes place just before CES 2018, so it’s likely that, whatever is revealed, it will be showcased more comprehensively during the show.

What do you think HTC is teasing? Looking forward to the big announcement on January 8? Let us know.

Stay tuned for next week’s CES 2018 coverage, where there should be lots of cool reveals and tech updates.

Overwatch’s Doomfist Is Plagued by Over 18 New Bugs

Despite Blizzard’s attempts to make Overwatch hero Doomfist a less buggy and broken character, there’s still lots of issues cropping up. Reddit user iSinner_ has compiled examples of over 18 new Doomfist bugs, which vary in rarity and severity.

Here’s what iSinner_ has jotted down thus far:

Bug 1

Zarya bubble <-> rocket punch interaction – zarya’s bubble can’t be punched, you go though it instead. This has been the case since release, even when the rocket punch hitbox was massive

Bug 2

Rocket punch <-> uppercut interaction – uppercutting a charging RP will make it stay in place on release if doomfist is still affected by uppercut

Bug 3

Rocket punch <-> D.va interaction – the amount of knockback dva takes from rocket punch depends on whether she is shooting or not, which makes no sense.

Bug 4

Rocket punch <-> Orisa interaction – the amount of knockback Orisa takes from rocket punch depends on whether she is shooting or not, which makes no sense, again.

It isn’t applied only to doomfist RP knockback, all knockbacks depend wethere orisa/dva is shooting or not, here is a live example vs winston ult:

Bug 5

Lucio aura <-> RP interaction – while being in healing aura, lucio is knockbacked a little bit farther by rocket punch, than while being in speed aura. It should be the same.

Bug 6

Rocket punch can be jumped over – it is possible to jump over rocket punch if the jumping target is even on the smallest slope, sometimes even on flat ground. Even though this has been claimed to be fixed in a recent patch note, the footage is taken on the patch on which it has been claimed to be fixed.

Bug 7

Wallride <-> uppercut interaction – uppercutting a wallriding lucio sends him into the stratosphere instead of hovering him at doomfist’s height. It isn’t consistent with how uppercut affects grounded targets, so i assume it is a bug. Maybe it is related to Bug#12.

Bug 8

Genji’s Dash <-> RP Interaction – Genji’s dash ignores the stun and the knockback effect, and continues to travel until it stops by itself. Even though i reported this bug in my previous post, it hasn’t been fixed, so i feel obligated to include it again in the list of bugs.

Bug 9

Lucio boop <-> Seismic slam interaction – if lucio boops doomfist just at the same time as he is about to trigger the wave from the slam, the wave appears but has no effect, no damage or soft CC from it.

Bug 10

Call mech <-> rocket punch interaction #1 – if D.va is in call mech animation, her mech is immune to knockbacks of any kind, just like junkrat was immune to it before it got patched

Bug 11

Seismic slam cancel bug – sometimes slam gets stuck on objects and is just canceled completely. No wave, nothing, it just goes on cooldown. While it has been claimed to be fixed in patch notes, it still happens all the time as if it wasn’t fixed at all. All footage is taken after it was claimed to be fixed.

Bug 12

Uppercut <-> wallclimb interaction – uppercut doesn’t disconnect enemies from the wall, even if they are uppercutted away from the wall. It is as if the knockback from the uppercut doesn’t exist.

Bug 13

Orisa halt <-> seismic slam interaction – if doomfist is caught by halt during his slam animation, the slam will trigger the floor wave in the air, hitting nothing, or will just cancel.

Bug 14

Bastion tank transform <-> uppercut interaction – if bastion is uppercutted while transforming, he won’t be knocked up at all.

Bug 15

Dva call mech <-> RP interaction #2 – when dva calls mech, the mech hitbox is there before the actual model is there, which mean RP hits the mech and doesn’t cancel the call mech ult.

Bug 16

Incorrect ult landing – the landing indicator and the actual landing positions are incorrect near height differences in terrain.

Bug 17

Ult UI getting “stuck” – if you die shortly after activating your ult, the ult ui can remain on your screen after respawning

Bug 18

Junkrat ult <-> any DF skill interaction – none of the skills seems to affect junkrat, no knockback of any kind. It is weird because it was a patch in which junkrat was displaced by RP. However, this is not the case on PTR 1.19.1.0.42530

Bug 19

Slam no reg – slam doesn’t register sometimes. Fresh footage, a week old.

Head to the Reddit thread to view examples of each bug.

Here’s hoping this information provides useful to Blizzard, who can work to remedy the issues.

In other Overwatch news, a new update has landed on the PTR which targets Mercy and Junkrat with nerfs, and Season 8 has started, bringing some big changes to the game.

Xbox: PUBG Sales Figures Are “Very Big,” Specific Numbers Expected Next Week

Thanks to the public player counts made available on Steam, it’s easy to quantify just how successful PUBG has been on the PC platform. Over on Xbox One, it’s a lot more tricky. Thankfully, it looks like Xbox is going to be pretty open when it comes to boasting about the console version’s success.

Xbox’s Aaron Greenberg posted the following on Twitter, saying that sales figures are “very big.”

Just how big is “very big?” We should know next week!

It’s undeniable that PUBG has conquered the PC platform, and now it looks to be doing the same to Xbox. And of course there’s the possible PS4 version which could happen!

What do you make of the game’s success on both PC and Xbox? Is it deserving? Let us know.

In other PUBG news, Microsoft pulled a copycat ad that was original created by a Redditor, the Battle Royale Trailer game will help you “git gud,” and the game’s netcode is compared and contrasted to Fortnite and H1z1 in this new analysis video.

Destiny 2 Development Update Set for Next Week, Bungie Has “Lots of Good Info to Share”

It’s no secret that Bungie has made a few missteps in how it communicates with Destiny 2’s rabid fan base; from hidden Glimmer caps, to engram controversies, there’s quite a number of things the community is upset with, and understandably so. It’s gotten so bad in some cases that some people do believe the report that Destiny 2’s development got rebooted in early 2016 before releasing just a year after.

Well, it’s a new year, and it seems fans might be getting more communication with the studio. Over on Twitter, Bungie Game Director Christopher Barrett mentioned that a Destiny 2 development update is set to roll out next week, and it’ll have “lots of good info to share.”

Will it address fan concerns regarding the Eververse, end-game issues and the like? Let’s hope so. And let’s hope the whole “Bungie does something, community gets mad, Bungie pulls it back and apologizes” thing stops. I mean, there’s only so many times a studio can keep doing the same things over and over and apologizing for it before fans lose faith, right?

What do you hope to see and hear from Bungie next week? Let us know in the comments.

Injustice 2 Enchantress Gameplay Reveal Trailer Shows Off Her Abilities

It’s a new month and for Injustice 2 players, this means one thing: a brand new DLC character is on the way very shortly. The latest character drop is my most personally wanted post-launch character making her way onto the game. This, of course is none other than the Enchantress who was originally revealed back last month along side The Atom and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

You can check out the trailer for the Injustice 2 Enchantress gameplay reveal below:

Judging from the reveal trailer, it appears Enchantress plays somewhat similar to Quan-Chi from Mortal Kombat, as from what we’ve seen from the trailer she has a mesmerize skill identical to Quan-Chi, where once the opponent is hit by the move, they start to walk towards her for a free hit. Aside from that, it appears that she also is able to summon minions and conjure weapons as well — again, much like Quan-Chi.

Overall, Enchatress seems pretty fun to play as from the trailer provided above.

Those interested in picking her up can do so starting January 9, if you can happen to the own the God Pack. Those who don’t, can just simply wait a week to purchase her directly.
