Xbox One Update Adds “Do Not Disturb” Status, Lets Users Filter Achievements & More

Currently available as a new Preview Alpha build, but no doubt soon to be launching as a full release, the latest Xbox One update boasts a range of useful new features. From a “Do Not Disturb” status, to the ability to sort achievements, there’s a lot to like here.

Check out the full list of patch notes below:

  • Starting today at 6 p.m. PST, Xbox Insiders enrolled in the Alpha ring will receive the latest Xbox One system update (1802.180105-1503). With this update, you’ll be able to use the “Next Achievements” feature in the Guide, which enables you to view and sort a cross-games list of upcoming Achievements. Easily see which Achievements you are closest to, and quickly launch the game to obtain them. Sort filters allow you to prioritize next Achievements by closest, most common, rarest, most common rare, and highest Gamerscore.
  • Mini Game Hubs will soon be available right in the Guide. With this feature, you’ll be able to access great content for the games you’ve played recently from a Game Hub without ever having to leave the action. Mini Game Hubs provide an easy way to see friends who are currently playing, upcoming Achievements, Looking for Group posts, and more.
  • Sometimes all you want to do is avoid all distractions and focus entirely on your game. We’ll be including a “Do not disturb” online status, which will suppress notifications and let your friends know that you’re not available for another game or activity right now.
  • We’re tweaking the community feed to make it easier to view comments. You’ll soon be able to see a peek of the most recent comment on community posts, with comments rearranged to place those that are most recent at the top. You’ll also be able to see who has liked your comments.
  • To address user feedback, we’re adding additional inactivity shutdown options to the Power mode & startup menu. In addition to shutting down the console after one or six hours of inactivity, you will be able to select options for two, three, four and five hours.

Are you looking forward to seeing how Xbox evolves in 2018? I’m sure Microsoft has a lot of new features planned.

PS4 Sales Numbers for Holiday 2017 Top 5.9 Million Units, PS Plus Subscribers Surpass 31 Million

While the 2017 holidays just wrapped up a few weeks ago, it seems Sony spent the most of it counting how much money poured in given the robust business the PlayStation division wrought during the holidays.

In a press release, Sony announced that for the 2017 holidays, PS4 sales sold through (meaning sold, not shipped) more than 5.9 million units! Overall, this brings the PS4’s global and lifetime sales total to over 73.6 million units as of December 31, 2017!

  • PS4™ has sold through to consumers more than 5.9 million units*1 during the 2017 holiday season.
  • PS4™ has now cumulatively sold through more than 73.6 million units*2 globally as of 31st December, 2017.

Yeah, that’s a lot of consoles, no?

In other PlayStation news, Sony also revealed the most downloaded games, themes and DLCs of 2017, which you can read about here. If you’re one of the millions of PS4 owners who also own a PSVR unit, then prepare for a load of games to hit the device as Sony has mentioned it expects to release 130 titles for PSVR this year alone.

Though, for those who don’t own any iteration of the God Pack and want to purchase Enchantress piecemeal can do so next week. Of course, no new character release would be complete without a look at their gear pieces. Luckily for us, people on the Xbox One platform had early access to her thanks to a simple trick and have uploaded footage of her gear already.

You can check Enchantress in some gameplay footage below:

Aside from a new character being available, it seems NetherRealm Studios has also released a relatively small patch for the game as well. You can check out the notes below. Monster Hunter World File Size Is Super Manageable

With games weighing more and more each year, it looks like the days of being able to download a full-sized game at less than 20GB is quickly becoming a distant memory. Apparently, someone forgot to tell Capcom, as the Monster Hunter World file size is at a super manageable 16GB!

This measly (relatively) file size has been confirmed by the Monster Hunter World Japanese case.

Bear in mind though, this is just for the base game, and doesn’t include any day-one patches, or even the free DLC that’s expected to be rolled out sometime after launch. Nonetheless, seeing a game not go over 20-30GB is a godsend for those with PS4 HDD’s full to the brim.

Set for release in January 26, 2018, PS4 gamers can try the game for free this January 18-22 to see if Monster Hunter World is their kind of beef (monster, meat, get it?).

Watch Some Dragon Ball FighterZ Goku Black Gameplay in Latest Trailer

We’re officially three weeks away from one of the biggest fighting game titles to release this year, which, of course, is none other than Arc System Works’ (Guilty GearDragon Ball FighterZ.

As has been the case the past few weeks, Bandai Namco has once again released a trailer focusing on a specific character. You can check out the trailer below for one of the newest introduce characters in the franchise, Goku Black!

https://youtu.be/X5QaHsGOaXY

Those who are new to Dragon Ball or haven’t kept up with Dragon Ball Super, here’s everything you need to know about this new character.

“Goku Black, or better known as Zamasu uses the power of the Dragon Balls to swap bodies with Goku in the future to carry out his mission: destroy all mortals. With the powers of both a deity and a Saiyan thanks to his new found body, Goku Black is able to achieve the Super Saiyan Rose form to further carry out his mission.”

While the trailer is rather short, we do see a glimpse of what this character can do, such as summoning an alternate version of Zamasu to help Goku Black do battle. This might sound familiar as the Android 17 can do the same thing with Android 18.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is set to be released on January 26 for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms.

Sony Expects to Ship 130 PlayStation VR Games in 2018

For those who are digging virtual reality and have picked up Sony’s PlayStation VR, prepare for a ton more games this year. In a statement to Japanese business publication, Nikkei, Sony says it expects the PSVR titles to increase from 150 to 280 by the end of this year.

Sony feels the 80 percent increase in title count is attainable given the high penetration rate of the PSVR (over two million from last year), thus making it easier for game publishers to justify developing for the platform.

In other Sony news, the company has released the most downloaded games on the PlayStation Store, and it included a list of most download PSVR games. Check out the entire thing here, or if you’re just interested in the PSVR games, check out the list below.

PS VR Games
1 Job Simulator
2 Superhot VR
3 PlayStation VR Worlds
4 I Expect You To Die
5 Batman: Arkham VR
6 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR
7 Fruit Ninja VR
8 Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
9 Until Dawn: Rush of Blood
10 Driveclub VR

Do you think Sony will be able to hit its target goal for PSVR games this 2018? Bear in mind, that I wouldn’t be surprised if this number includes PSVR compatible games, and not necessarily exclusive games on the platform.

If you have a PSVR, exciting times are a-coming! Once we hear of any multiplayer games for the platform, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

Rainbow Six Siege Ela Operator Nerf Incoming

With Rainbow Six Siege adding more and more Operators in the game, there’s bound to be someone in the lot that’ll screw up the game balance one way or the other. Well, it seems we have exactly that with submachine gun-toting, Ela.

Ela, it seems, is such a hard pick for pro matches that pro players are actually complaining about it. Over on Twitter, professional gamer Fabian Hallsten of Penta eSsports, posted a tweet bemoaning how the “entire eSports related community” all agree that Ela is “broken OP” (overpowered), even without her gadget.

In case you can’t read the tweet, it reads:

I get sad when the entire esports related community to siege all agree that Ela is broken OP, even without her gadget she would get picked just because of her gun… Are we going to see a change? No. Why? Have they ever listened to the esports community?

Fabian’s tweet was seen and replied to by none other than Craig Robinson, Community Manager for Rainbow Six Siege, who confirmed a Rainbow Six Siege Ela nerf is indeed coming in the next patch. Over on the Rainbow Six Siege subreddit, people have chimed in on Ela’s overpoweredness, and attribute it to her SMG, which fires fast, has good damage, and a lot of bullets.

There’s no word on when this game update will be available, but given how pro players are bitching about it, expect it sooner rather than later.

Call of Duty: WWII Ground War Won’t Be in the Game, Thought Process Behind Game Modes Given by Sledgehammer

Continuing with Sledgehammer Games’ promise to be more communicative with the Call of Duty: WWII fanbase, Sledgehammer boss Michael Condrey has gone on Reddit to talk about game modes, and the oft-requested Ground War.

Unfortunately, Ground War, Call of Duty’s chaotic 9v9 mode, isn’t making a return to COD: WWII. Condrey cites “good spawns” as the cause, and the maps.

Ground War, 9v9

Some of you have asked about the outlook for Ground War in Call of Duty WWII. The reality is that maps built for balance, flow, and good spawns at 6v6 traditionally don’t hold up as well for us when playing 9v9, and this was no different for Ground Game in WWII. We track spawn data for every spawn, on every match, globally since launch, and are happy to report that our bad-spawns are at franchise historic lows. The same couldn’t be said for Ground War with 9v9 teams during development. We considered building unique maps for Ground War, like we built for our War experiences, but that just wasn’t feasible during development given our other game ambitions for MP. I can’t say that Ground War won’t come to WWII eventually, but it’s nowhere on the horizon given our current roadmap.

In addition to that, Condrey also talked a bit about the game modes available in COD: WWII at launch, and the thought process behind ’em, and also about the upcoming game modes available post-launch like Gun Game.

Game Modes at Launch:

A lot of work went into deciding which game modes would be available at launch. Map design, modes, spawns, and competitive balance are all incredibly intertwined factors throughout development. Each map needs to play well and exhibit a fair team balance across many differing game modes. It’s a huge undertaking, especially when fan expectations are as high as those in the COD community. Imagine the MP designers striving to create compelling maps that work equally well for TDM, Hardpoint, S&D, CTF and many others. Then, there’s also a very important player fragmentation factor that may not be apparent to everyone. Essentially, a fixed number of players is split up across all the modes offered. A large number of modes leads to longer lobby wait times or less ideal pings for the less popular game modes, exacerbated by the need to do lobby matchmaking across every region and time zone on the planet. We have also seen that a large number of modes can feel overwhelming or less accessible to players trying to master the game, which hurts player satisfaction and fan engagement overall. Not to mention the amount of time and energy that goes into bringing great new modes, like War, to life for each game iteration. In short, more game modes isn’t always better, and inevitably we choose to prioritize the most popular and the most compelling, while delivering the best experience we can, using every development day available.

Game Modes Post Launch

Now that launch is behind us, we are discussing a ton of really compelling game modes that have been part of the franchise history. While War, Headquarters, and Uplink/Gridiron are a few that have been introduced in our games, and that we have a lot of heart for, there are many others like Infected that we also love as players. We enjoyed seeing fans really stoked for the return of Gun Game, and we want to continue supporting that excitement throughout the DLC season ahead. Rest assured, we have a lot of ambition to keep driving hard on game updates and fixes. We’re also as committed as ever to holding a high quality on new experiences, and won’t rush adding a mode into the game if it isn’t balanced and fun for WWII.

Lastly, Condrey mentions that The Resistance event, which pertains to the game’s first DLC pack that will be released this January 30 for PS4 gamers (30 days later for PC and Xbox One), will have some news to be shared “shortly.”

Surprised that we aren’t getting Ground War? Or did Condrey’s explanation make sense? Personally, I’d rather they let everyone in on the chaos and just give a disclaimer that the maps were built for 6v6 and not 9v9.

5 Games That Will Most Likely Be Delayed This 2018

With 2018 now in full swing, that means yet another year of new blockbuster games soon to delight, shock, and even disappoint us.

While there’s already a good list of games scheduled to be released this year, we think there’s a few games confirmed for 2018 that won’t make it out this year at all. It can be for a myriad of reasons as to why.

Note that the games listed aren’t a lock to be delayed, but if we had to put down a bet on which games we think would miss their original release date, we’d pick the five games below. Also, while MP1st is a multiplayer-focused site, we included games that are most known for their single-player since they’re some of the biggest titles that will come out this year.

God of War PS4

While Sony Santa Monica has mentioned that God of War 4 or God of War PS4 will be out in “Q1 2018,” in one of its latest trailers, we’re not believers of that yet. Sure, past God of War games were released in the same window but given we didn’t even see any new footage of the game at last year’s PSX, and the fact that the Guerrilla Games people were joking with Sony Santa Monica about release dates and whatnot (which could be an inside joke…or not), we wouldn’t be shocked if Kratos’ first PS4 adventure gets pushed back a few months (or even to 2019).

Crackdown 3

Announced way back in 2014 during Microsoft’s E3 press conference, Crackdown 3 has been delayed multiple times already with the latest one pushing its August 2017 release date, to “spring 2018.” Will another delay be forthcoming? Given we haven’t seen anything tangible about the game in a while, don’t be surprised if that happens.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Originally set for release in the second half of 2017 (yeah, right after it was revealed just in October 2016?!), Red Dead Redemption 2 is now set for release in “spring 2018” according to Rockstar Games. Given how notorious the studio is for marching to the beat of their own drum, and not giving a damn about the other games, spring 2018 can very well spiral into fall 2018, or Q1 2019 if Rockstar wants to. I mean, it’ll still sell a truckload whenever it releases so the actual release window isn’t really important.

Kingdom Hearts III

While Kingdom Hearts III was only confirmed to be in development in 2013, it was known even since 2006 that it was coming at some point. Countless spin-offs and releases without “III” in the title, and we’re still waiting for the trilogy concclusion for Sora, Goofy and Donald’s adventure. Good news is, we did get to see some gameplay last year. Bad news? It’s still tagged for a “coming 2018” release, which gives it a high probability of being pushed back. And frankly, we’re expecting it to be.

Anthem

Announced and revealed at last year’s E3, Anthem is EA’s big answer to Activision and Bungie’s Destiny franchise. It certainly looks the part, and from the “gameplay” (using that term loosely here) we’ve seen, BioWare seems to be on the right track. However, given what happened to Mass Effect Andromeda, and the controversy surrounding Star Wars Battlefront II, it seems very unlikely that EA will want to rush the game out.

Sure, there’s supposed to be a beta that’s quite far off, but even that doesn’t bode well for Anthem to hit its supposed fall 2018 target release window. If it does indeed make it out within the year, then consider us surprised. Out of all the games in this list, Anthem is the one with the highest probability of being pushed back. In fact, we’re fully expecting it to.

There you have it. These are the five games we think will get delayed in 2018. The big question now is, will these games still make it out this year? We’ll know for sure in the coming months.

Which of the games listed do you think will be delayed? Did we miss a game? If so, let us know in the comments.

CES 2018: AMD Reveals 2018 Roadmap – Ryzen 2nd Gen, Ryzen APUs & Vega on 7nm

AMD has prefaced its CES 2018 showcase by announcing its roadmap for 2018. After taking huge steps forward in 2017, it looks like the momentum is still flowing, with even bigger promises made for 2018.

On the CPU side of things, Ryzen desktop and mobile APUs (which combine CPU and GPU performance) are set to launch first, followed by second generation Ryzen desktop CPUs, then “Ryzen Pro” mobile APUs. In the second half of 2018, AMD will launch the second generations of Threadripper and Ryzen Pro CPUs.

Graphics-wise, AMD’s portfolio is a little less ambitious, with RX Vega 56 and 64 remaining the company’s current desktop flagships. However, the Vega Mobile GPUs, and machine learning-focused 7nm “Instinct Vega” GPUs certainly sound interesting.

Images of both the CPU and GPU roadmaps can be seen below:

What do you make of AMD’s plans for 2018? Let us know.

Report: Battlefield Exploit Is Causing FairFight to Ban Innocent Players

A number of Battlefield 4 PC players are reporting that their accounts have been banned by “FairFight,” the game’s anti-cheat system. A “major security breach” in both Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 1 can be abused to trigger unwarranted bans.

User Sovereign_Skies, of the the BF4DB community, went into detail about the problem:

On January 4th, we started receiving seemingly isolated reports of legitimate players being banned by FairFight, including several members of our staff. BF4DB immediately started investigating and reached out to EA as well as several contacts that we have. Appeals for said bans were initiated immediately as well.

Over the last few days, we have come to the understanding that these bans are erroneously triggered (often while the subject isn’t even logged in) through a previously unknown exploit. This exploit has been used to trigger bans on a not insignificant number of people, including streamers, members of staff at Anti-Cheat communities, and others.

We have noticed that these bans are not typical FairFight bans. The player in question may or may not receive an email stating that your Battlefield 4 account is in violation of the Terms of Service and that your gameplay access has been blocked for a certain amount of time. Some others who have been banned have not received this email.

As far as we are aware at this time, none of the erroneous bans that were issued have actually resulted in a stats reset. SOME of the players are able to join and play on servers normally, and some (who received that email) are still blocked from playing.

You read the full post, which includes what to do if you’ve experienced a ban, here.

We’ve reached out to EA and will update this post with any new information.

NBA Playgrounds Getting Patched on Nintendo Switch Necessitates a New Download

The next time you complain about the file sizes you need to download to upload a game on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, make sure to remember this story. Over on the Nintendo Switch, Saber Interactive’s NBA Playgrounds got an update, but instead of getting a regular file to download, players must download an entirely new game called NBA Plagrounds: Enhanced Edition.

NBA Playgrounds: Enhanced Edition is free to previous owners of the non-enhanced version, but those who wish to buy it can get it at a discounted price of $10. Saber Interactive says this new enhanced version is an “upgrade” that includes new content and tweaks that were rolled out in the console version via game updates.

Not only is having to download an entirely new game to get the updated version weird enough in itself, but this newer version isn’t even advertised by the Nintendo eShop, or automatically pushed out by the console itself. So if you’re unfortunate enough to delete NBA Playgrounds on your Switch, you won’t be able to download it again without encountering an error. If you want to get the newer version, you’ll have to manually search for it in the Nintendo eShop, which means you have to have had previous knowledge of its existence or read about it online since Saber Interactive’s social channels haven’t been updated in quite some time.

Thankfully, the new, enhanced version will work with previous save files, though Saber nor Nintendo has issued a response why a new downloaded is needed in the first place. It’s assumed that the new download is for the extra DLC included (not confirmed though), but it’s unclear why a new download is needed in the first place if so.

Got that? Let’s hope this doesn’t become a recurring thing for Nintendo Switch versions of games on other platforms, or it will get very, very confusing — and annoying — for a lot of Switch owners.

In other Nintendo Switch news, the console is the fastest-selling gaming console in history in the US! Those looking for the company to roll out its premium online service, might need to wait until fall 2018 to experience it.
