Rainbow Six Siege Is A Diamond In The Rubble – Review

There’s nothing quite like a Rainbow Six game. Rarely is an action-oriented first-person shooter rooted in real-world combat able to instill a genuine fear for your character’s safety and well-being. Whereas modern shooters throw you a bone with regenerating health, infinite respawns, or a checkpoint every few seconds, Rainbow Six has always managed to make dying a frightening ordeal. It’s impressive, then, that Rainbow Six Siege manages to turn up the intensity to eleven and makes staying alive in a hostile, multiplayer environment an almost horrific ordeal.

Rainbow 6

Having remained on hiatus for nearly seven years, the historied series makes its long-awaited return, welcoming old fans back and introducing its hard-hitting and unforgiving gameplay style to an entirely new generation of gamers.

Things certainly aren’t what they used to be, but that’s not a bad thing. Rainbow Six Siege shifts its focus away from squad-based terrorist hunts and instead applies the series’ well-known, slow and methodical pace to a five-versus-five multiplayer setting. That’s not to say modes like Terrorist Hunt don’t exist here in Siege. But, aside from a selection of “Situations” that serve as a thorough tutorial of the game’s new mechanics, you won’t find a story-driven campaign that spans multiple levels. What you will find, however, is a multiplayer offering that goes deeper than ever and challenges your understanding of how to play a competitive first-person shooter.

Rainbow 6

Even without a proper story mode, Siege boasts a surprising amount of variety in its multiplayer. By default, both Multiplayer and Terrorist Hunt matchmaking revolves around mixed modes. So, not only might the setting (including time of day) and mode change after every match, so too do the objectives and their locations. With a broad list of Operator combinations that can form a single fire team and a healthy collection of cleverly-designed multiplayer maps, every round is different and unpredictable, even within a seemingly limited framework.

Siege’s skill curve is through the roof. That means newcomers are going to have to suffer through a few agonizing (but very rewarding) matches before building a better understanding of how each round flows. But, like most skills, the more you put in, the more you get out, and there’s so much to get out of Siege. I feel like I could play it for months and still find something new to learn, be it a more efficient way to utilize an Operator’s skills or a new way to take advantage of the map layout. Even so, right around the time you begin to get the hang of things, Ranked Multiplayer opens up at Clearance Level 20, demanding an even higher level of knowledge and skill.

While you might feel burdened by the maddening amount of tactics and strategies to learn, the game does an exceptional job of easing you through your first steps. This is where Siege’s single-player Situations and multiplayer Terrorist Hunt modes come into play.

Rainbow 6

Situations mode, as the name implies, presents a series of ten missions with specific goals and objectives. Some are easier than others, but each one offers a small tour of a few of the different Operators’ abilities and sticks you in scenarios that aren’t all that different from the ones you might encounter in Multiplayer or Terrorist Hunt.

The best part is that by completing all of the objectives in each Situation and watching all of Siege’s tutorial videos, you should have enough Renown (Siege’s unlock currency) to scoop up a handful of Operators and weapons for your own use. It’s recommended that you spread your roster evenly between attackers and defenders so that you’re options are always open no matter what side you’re on.

Once you’re happy with your initial setup, it’s worth taking your new Operators, weapons, and weapon attachments for a spin in good ol’ Terrorist Hunt, either via private match with buddies or online through Siege’s matchmaking (no split-screen, sadly). Here, you’ll get a better idea of what it’s like to work with a team and how your Operator’s abilities might complement another’s. Since Siege’s maps are shared by all modes, you’ll also begin to learn all of the different layouts and objective locations. There are four Terrorist Hunt modes in total: Terrorist Hunt Classic (attack), Extract Hostage (attack), Protect Hostage, (defend), and Disarm Bomb (attack). It gets easier with more players involved, but the AI is still no joke, especially on higher, more lethal difficulties.

Rainbow 6

My initial goal was to unlock two Operators from each of the five factions and I was able to achieve this in two days by playing all Situations and completing all objectives, as well as through a small amount of playtime in Casual and Terrorist Hunt modes. By the looks of it, you can become fully-equipped rather quickly. With five attackers and five defenders unlocked, you’ll always have an Operator available no matter who your teammates choose to play as.

After the first push through a few unlocks, the game’s rate of progression settles to a more moderate pace, as there’s less opportunity to get easy Renown and as Operators become more expensive with each purchase in a faction. In my view, it works out rather well because you’re seeing more rewards the during the most difficult and “grind-y” period of your journey with Siege. Right when the unlocks begin to slow down, that’s when the learning curve gets its hooks into you, encouraging you to improve through experimentation and constant play with little material incentive needed.

Rainbow 6

The presentation of each Operator in Siege is handled with exceptional quality and care. Each one hails from a different nationality (Great Britain, Germany, Russia, France, or the United States) with more factions to come via post-launch releases. Upon unlocking a character, the player is treated to beautifully-crafted introduction movie and a detailed dossier of background information, giving every Operator their own distinct personality and traits.

In addition to their unique abilities, each Operator also has access to their own set of primary weapons, secondary weapons, and equipment that can be swapped around or upgraded with attachments. What Siege lacks, however, is an easy-to-access firing range or training course where one can quickly test out new gear. I could live without it if we were able to change attachments on the fly or in between rounds in a live multiplayer match, but, unfortunately, we can’t.

Rainbow Six Siege

Taking inspiration from older Rainbow Six titles, every multiplayer match in Siege begins with a planning stage. It only lasts 30 seconds, but it can be the most important 30 seconds of the game. While the defenders set up window or door barricades, lay down traps, and plant electronic devices, attackers must infiltrate with remote-controlled drones in order to gather as much intel as possible before the Action Phase begins. There’s a lot you can do during this time to increase your chances of success, but there’s also a lot you can do wrong, which is why repetition and experimentation is key. I found it extremely important to listen to the advice of others, especially those who are more experienced than you, and to communicate your plan when possible.

Siege offers only a very basic set of tools for team play, which includes the ability to mark locations or object with the press of a button. You’ll also begin to understand the game enough to make more educated plays as you learn to read the UI better and pick up on audio and visual cues. But without a proper command rose or different gestures that can be assigned to certain buttons, it can be very hard to communicate without a mic. In a shooter where good positioning and well-co-ordinated attacks reign supreme over individual gun skill, communication is key.

Siege is best experienced with a full party of friends, but I found I was still able to get nearly the same amount of enjoyment playing solo if I remained open to using a mic. Fortunately, given Siege’s appeal to a more mature audience, I’ve had only good experiences with strangers over the PlayStation Network.

Rainbow 6

Multiplayer matches rotate between three different modes: TDM – Hostage, TDM – Secure Area, and TDM – Bomb. Each one swaps teams between the attacker and defender roles every round and is first-to-three-wins. Oh, and in case you didn’t hear or figure it out by now, you only get one life.

During every round, there’s this very special moment that takes place just after the planning stage, right as the attackers begin their approach to the building that the defending team is holed up in. As a defender, not knowing exactly which wall, window, or door the enemy team will come barging through. It’s exciting as it is haunting. Faint footsteps become the sound of windows being broken into, which becomes the sound of earth-shaking explosions that disturb the dust falling from the ceiling. Then, as they get closer, the sizzle of a breaching charge priming to explode is the last thing you hear before the action revs up to full throttle.

Similarly, as an attacker, not knowing exactly what’s waiting for you on the other side of the breach can be just as terrifying. As you approach the target, you’ll find yourself taking a deep breath before peaking through a broken barrier, praying no one has a line of sight on you while your eyes adjust to the darkness.

With one life to live, a lot of risk is involved for either team, but with good intel (or the denial of good intel), that risk can be minimized and turned into confidence. You’ll need as much of it as you can get, too, because when it rains, it pours. Fights in Siege are explosive, literally and figuratively. They’re sometimes over in the blink of an eye and good teams won’t even give you the chance to react. But I find that no matter how badly my team and I get slaughtered, there’s always something to learn from it. It’s hard to get mad at any death when the Kill Replay points out just how smart of a play my enemy made or how dumb of a mistake I made. Every death is for a good reason and it makes Siege one of the least frustrating shooters I’ve ever played.

Rainbow Six Siege

What is frustrating, however, is Siege’s lack of polish in a number of key areas. The game can be buggy at times, which occasionally leads to an entirely undeserved death or two, and that’s lot when you only die one to three times per match. The worst I’ve seen is a player being killed because the enemy could see his or her body parts clipping through a wall. Siege’s Kill Replays also only seem work properly one third of the time and I often feel as if my aim, at least on console, is rough, as if its constantly getting stuck on something when I turn.

Other inexplainable deaths aren’t even caused by bugs, but by shaky connection issues. There’s often a discrepancy between what one player sees and another, leading to gunfights that leave you scratching your head. Matchmaking doesn’t always work as intended either, and you’ll occasionally get dropped into an immensely laggy game or two before fining a solid connection.

To my satisfaction, these are things that sound like will improve in due time. It was my hope that Ubisoft Montreal gives Siege the support it deserves during the game’s crucial first month of launch, and the game’s first major update is setting a wonderful precedence.

Rainbow Six Siege

Visually, Siege isn’t all that pretty by today’s standards and yet it’s still a technical marvel what won’t fail to impress any gamer. It makes up for every shoddy texture and bland graphical effect by delivering a truly dynamic experience through the extraordinary use of destruction. Every surface reacts to gunfire and explosives exactly as you would expect in real life. Bullet holes match the size of their caliber, which makes some weapons more destructive than others.

I love how much creative freedom the game gives you when it comes to carving your own path to an objective. You can be as sneaky as you like, or go loud with powerful breaching techniques that create realistic dust and debris for some cover. That, and it’s always so satisfying finding the perfect use for your Operator’s unique abilities. Almost everything can be interacted with in one way or another, making Siege the ultimate sandbox shooter, despite the small sizes of its maps.

Sound also travels believably and reacts to every surface, or the lack thereof. Just as you’re able to create your own lines of sight, so too can you position yourself to better hear the enemy. Siege does a fantastic job providing you with audio cues, like when the enemy is reloading, for example, which can be crucial to your attack plan. Even debris, like broken class, can give away your enemy’s position, if they’re not careful. I’ve come to really appreciate how Siege provides all the tools necessary to become a tactical mastermind and to form your own plays without the constraints found in many of today’s modern shooters. Best of all, when those plays work, there’s nothing more satisfying.

Rainbow 6

It’s good to have Rainbow back. Siege, in particular, is as important as ever, especially for the console market that lacks true tactical first-person shooters like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. It needs support, though. It needs updates, it needs connection improvements, and it needs more content. I hope both the Rainbow Six community and the developers at Ubisoft Montreal give it the sort of attention it needs to live a long and healthy life because there’s really nothing out there quite like it. Siege is a diamond in the rough and I’d hate to lose it as quickly as some of the other non-Call of Duty shooters that have disappeared this year and last.

Given the contents of Siege’s first update, I’m confident that Ubisoft Montreal is listening to its fans. It’s got some ways to go, but with the right support, Siege will become great.

4 / 5

It’s my opinion that the men and women of Ubisoft Montreal have succeeded with their multiplayer-focused vision for the franchise and are making strides in its execution. It’s fresh and it’s exactly what the genre needed, even if it could have used a boost in its feature-set, like split-screen gameplay and more co-op scenarios.

Rainbow Six Siege will satisfy fans who’ve felt the recent absence of hardcore first-person shooter experiences in their lives and will open a lot of eyes to the wonderful world of lethal, one-life-to-live multiplayer competition.

Rainbow Six Siege was reviewed on the PlayStation 4 via a review code provided by Ubisoft.

Yet another major update makes its way to DICE’s now two-year old shooter on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, including new gameplay improvements and even more downloadable content.

Like Battlefield 4’s Fall Update and Community Operations DLC or its Summer Update and Night Operations DLC, the new Holiday Update and Legacy Operations DLC are completely free, whether you’re a Premium member or not.

If you haven’t yet heard, the Legacy Operations DLC brings back the classic Battlefield 2 map, Dragon Valley, completely rebuilt for Battlefield 4. There’s also a new 5-MCOM Rush game mode layout inspired by Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

You can get a tour of the new map, along with a lengthy list of patch notes, in EA and DICE LA’s latest Battlelog post. Weapon, vehicle, and server improvements are once again included in the mix, so give it a read and share your thoughts in the comments below.

EA also recently announced new DLC for Visceral Games’ Battlefield Hardline, launching this January. You can learn more about the Getaway DLC here.

Destiny – Level 25 Boost Packs Can Now Be Bought For $30 USD

Activision and Bungie are now selling class-specific consumables that will boost your Guardian’s level up to 25, the base level required to participate in Destiny: The Taken King DLC content.

The Taken King launched with a similar item called a “Spark of Light” that was given to all buyers for free, allowing new players to skip forward in progression with one character only, giving them instant access to the newest content. Now, the studio is offering a Level 25 Boost, a Subclass Boost (used to upgrade abilities faster), and Telemetries (used to upgrade weapons faster) in a single, $30 USD package on the Xbox Live and PlayStation Network stores.

As of this writing, they’re already up on the Xbox store, one for each of Destiny’s three classes, and will likely roll out on the PlayStation store soon. They don’t provide any one player an advantage over another, but are a little steep in price for something that normally just costs a little bit of time. That said, some players may value the option to save time instead. The current level cap in Destiny is 40, though character power is primarily increased through in-game weapons and armor.

Here’s what the packages look like on the Xbox store:

HUNTER

Screen Shot 2015-12-15 at 3.41.27 AM

TITAN

Screen Shot 2015-12-15 at 3.42.40 AM

WARLOCK

Screen Shot 2015-12-15 at 3.43.13 AM

These packages can be purchased along with Silver, a new currency that was introduced in Destiny back in October, used for emotes and other cosmetic items.

Thanks, Eurogamer.

EA Promises Official eSports Support With New Competitive Gaming Division

Video game publisher Electronic Arts has announced a new division of the company dedicated to eSports and competitive gaming.

It’s called the EA Competitive Gaming Division (CGD) and will offer official support for competitive EA titles like FIFA, Madden NFL, and Battlefield.

In the announcement, EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, had this to say about the new company’s new branch:

Today I am excited to announce that Peter Moore is moving into a new role as Executive Vice President and Chief Competition Officer for Electronic Arts, leading our new EA Competitive Gaming Division (CGD). As the latest step in our journey to put our players first, this group will enable global eSports competitions in our biggest franchises including FIFA, Madden NFL, Battlefield and more. The CGD will be built around three core pillars:

· Competition – To create highly-engaging competitive experiences with our games, officially supported by Electronic Arts.

· Community – To celebrate, connect and grow our community of players across all levels of expertise.

· Entertainment – To develop live events and broadcasting that bring the spectacle of competition to millions of people around the world.

Todd Sitrin also joins Moor as the Senior Vice President and General Manager of the CGD who Wilson says will work “closely with our development studios to create an exciting competitive platform in our games.”

The move falls closely in line with similar eSports initiatives by companies like Activision and its new Call of Duty World League, as well as Microsoft and its Halo Championship Series. Other publishers like Valve and Riot Games have already enjoyed major success with their officially-supported eSports projects, proving that there is, indeed, an audience for competitive gaming.

EA says many more details from are to come, but we’re pretty excited to find out what it might mean for the studio’s next Battlefield game, due out next holiday in 2016.

Grand Theft Auto Online Is Getting Its Most Luxurious Update Yet

“Executives and Other Criminals” is Grand Theft Auto Online‘s most luxurious update to-date, finally letting the city-dwellers of Los Santos purchase new top-of-the-line apartments, a house in the Vinewood Hills, or even a Yacht.

“But how am I going to fund all that,” you ask? Well, the new update will let you create your very own criminal organization that will open up brand new co-op jobs, challenges, and special abilities in Freemode. You’ll also be able to hire other players as bodyguards, providing them a steady salary of RP, GTA$, and stat boosts.

You cant take on other organizations in Freemode with new armored vehicles, a Turreted Limo, or a Super Yacht with it’s own missile defense system, SuperVolito Carbon helicopter, and personal watercraft.

It sounds crazy, but it’s probably just what GTA Online needs to stay fresh. You can pick up the free update on December 15 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Battlefield 4 Legacy Operations Gets The Cinematic Treatment In New Trailer

Dragon Valley, the popular multiplayer map dating back to Battlefield 2, makes its anticipated next-gen debut in Battlefield 4’s Legacy Operations update.

Earlier, we learned a little more about the free update, coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC later this month. The map, like the original, will support all forms of combat — land, sea, and air — with returning features like destructible and repairable bridges. In addition, the Team Deathmatch variant of the map will provide fans of Battlefield 3’s Noshahr Canals a very, very similar experience.

To give you a cinematic look at the re-envisioned map, arriving soon, video creator Hoodoo_Operator has once again crafted the official trailer for Legacy Operations and, unsurprisingly, it’s awesome. You can watch it above.

If you haven’t yet, be sure to check out the other stunning trailer that The Two Scotsmen put together for Battlefield 4’s Community Operations update.

As usual, another major Battlefield 4 update, the Holiday Update, will launch alongside the new content pack on the same day as a separate download.

CS:GO’s Winter Update Adds New Revolver, Killcams, & More

It’s time to hone your inner-gunslinger with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive‘s new Winter Update, now live.

The star of this update, in particular, is the R8 Revolver. The new weapon occupies the Desert Eagle slot and is unique in that it features two different firing modes. In its primary mode, the wielder can fire perfectly accurate shots at the cost of a lengthy trigger pull. Essentially, it means it’ll be slightly delayed as you hold down the trigger button, which is represented in-game by the hammer slowly cocking back before firing. As a secondary function, the user can instead fan the hammer, increasing the rate-of-fire, but at the cost of accuracy.

revolver_blog_image

Other Winter Update highlights include the Revolver Case and the Killer Replay, a new feature that lets a player view the moment leading up to his or her death through the eyes of his or her killer. It’s only available in Demolition and Casual modes. Check it out:

In addition, the update has added the ability to vote for a 60-second timeout in between Competitive matches. Round and C4 timers are now 1:55 and 0:40, respectively, which are the new settings that will also be used in all CS:GO Major Championships.

Some weapon balancing tweaks are also present. The movement inaccuracy for all pistols, excluding the R8 Revolver, has been increased, and the recovery time for the AK47, M4A4, and M4A1-S has also been adjusted to “reduce the range at which spraying is preferable to tapping/bursting.”

There’s a lot more, including a few Holiday-related surprises like new gifts that can be purchased for other players. You’ll find the full list of patch notes on Counter-Strike’s Official Blog.

Had a chance to try out the new revolver? How are you liking it so far?

The Division Xbox One Alpha Codes Are Being Sent Out Today, Beta Moves To Early 2016

It’s December, which means the first public build of Ubisoft’s open-world shooter, The Division, opens its servers to eager fans via the upcoming Closed Alpha on Xbox One.

From December 8 to December 12, those who pre-ordered The Division and some of those who signed up for the waitlist will get access to the Xbox One-exclusive Closed Alpha. It “will be the first time the public gets to play a version of The Division that includes more than the Dark Zone PvP enabled areas,” says Ubisoft Massive.

“This means the moment you and other players sign into the game, you’ll be giving us valuable insight into how our infrastructure performs under pressure that we can’t replicate internally or at a tradeshow,” the studio continued. “This process allows us to monitor and gather additional feedback on other aspects of The Division, as well.”

Unfortunately, testers won’t be able to share their experiences, as participants will need to agree to a non-disclosure agreement that restricts gameplay captures, livestreams, images, and discussions outside of the Alpha forums from being made public.

The client is expected to be a 23.2 GB download and codes are being sent out as soon as today. Check out the full Alpha FAQ here for more details.

Originally also planned for December, Ubisoft has announced that The Division beta will now take place in early 2016 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Like the Alpha, access is guaranteed to those who pre-ordered the game with limited access given to users who sign up for the waiting list.

The Division officially launches March 8, 2016.

First Rainbow Six Siege Update Arrives Mid-December, In-Depth Patch Notes Planned Monthly

One week in and Rainbow Six Siege is off to a good launch, winning tactical shooter fans over with its exciting attack/defense mechanics and thrilling gameplay. But, already, fans are anxious to learn more about what updates Ubisoft Montreal has in store to improve the game even further.

According to a recent developer AMA on Reddit, Rainbow Six Siege’s first patch is planned for the middle of this month with additional “in-depth patches notes” planned on a month-to-month basis.

Hot on the list of topics are improvements to the game’s hit detection, which Ubisoft did address in their recent Q&A.

“Hello everyone. We have indeed heard your concerns for hit detection within the game and we want to address it,” Ubisoft wrote. “We already knew we had improvements that could be made, but after further investigation, we can share that the problem you experience is based off multiple issues that we will be working on. Some of them can be addressed with quick fixes, while others require development time.”

Here’s a more in-depth explanation of what’s currently being looked into and what’s being delivered in the next update:

Let’s start by talking about quick fixes. We have a few bugs that we managed to get out of the way and that will be fixed for our next title update in mid-December:

– Fixed: Pawn rotation latency: the difference between a player’s action, the server’s perception and another player seeing said action had an extra delay due to a bug. This had even more impact on shield wielding Operators since sometimes players using those would think they were protected while they were not because of the additional delay caused by the pawn rotation bug.

– Fixed: Shield positioning while rappelling: certain shield angles were not being replicated properly, this caused the shield wielding player to be overprotected in certain cases. This caused hit detection issues for the player shooting at the shield wielding player.

– Fixed: Shooting and moving while rappelling: when moving and shooting while in rappel, the hits were sometimes not registered properly by the server.

– Improved: Kill cam replication issues: the kill cam was not displaying an accurate representation of hit positions. The point of view seen after death was not the exact point of view of the killer. Moreover, we have instances in which the kill cam shows body parts sticking through walls while they actually weren’t being seen from the killer’s perspective. This has been improved for the next title update, but we still need additional work on this. It is still considered under development.

SERVER TICK RATE

We are currently investigating having a higher tick rate, which would improve positioning and shooting replication. The current servers run at a tick rate of 64, but the position of players is updated 30 times per second. We have plans to address this very soon and are currently running tests in which we have a position update rate of 60. If the results are satisfying, we will be deploying this in a future update as soon as possible.

CONNECTION TO WRONG DATA CENTER

Another issue we will be working on is that right now, some players connect to the wrong data centers. If you are not connected to the nearest data center, your gameplay experience will likely not be ideal. We believe that the best solution for this will be to allow the players to select their data centers and that is what we will be working on.

GENERAL ISSUES WE ARE AWARE OF

Although we do have a high ping kick in place, one thing to note is that there are some edge cases in which some players have high ping due to poor internet connection spikes. This affects replication quality for the other players within that person’s match.

We hope that this addresses your concerns and we will make sure to keep you updated as we keep monitoring and improving on this and progress within our plans.

In addition Ubisoft is “currently working on making [the Harvard map from the Article 5 mission] available for all in PVP and PVE, on top of all other free maps that are planned for year one,” though “no additional single player Situations are planned as of yet.”

Voice chat issues on PC are also being looked into, among many other things. There’s a lot more you can read about for yourself in the full Reddit thread. Furthermore, be sure to check out this Forum thread listing off all the currently known bugs and issues and what’s being fixed.

Epic Games Reveals “Paragon,” Third-Person Action-MOBA Game For PlayStation 4 & PC

At the PlayStation Experience 2015, Epic Games lifted the curtain off the studio’s latest project, and action-MOBA game called Paragon.

It takes the set-up of a traditional multiplayer online battle arena game and mixes it with the action of a third-person shooter, something Epic is no stranger to. Players will pick among a selection of heroes to take into Paragon’s 5-versus-5 team-based combat and level up by killing minions and destroying gems.

Epic says Paragon is built from the ground up for consoles and PC — PlayStation 4 and PC, specifically — and will enter early access in Spring 2016 and, later, open beta in Summer 2016. Be sure to drop by the official website to sign up.

The announcement trailer is above, but you’ll also find the official alpha gameplay trailer below along with a special LiveCast from this weekend’s PlayStation Experience with commentary from Epic Games’ Steve Supervill.

Destiny: The Taken King – Limited-Time “Sparrow Racing League” Event Launches This Month

Later this month in Destiny, Bungie is bringing Sparrow racing to life with the just-announced Sparrow Racing League, a limited-time event that the studio calls a “competitive, six-player, free-for-all death race through enemy territory.”

It looks as fun as it sounds, but you can see for yourself in the announcement trailer above.

According to Bungie, the Sparrow Racing League will commence on December 8 and stick around for three weeks, until December 29. Two race tracks on Venus and Mars have been specifically built for the event with power-ups, obstacles, and enemies.

On race day, players can visit Tower-vendor Amanda Holiday to pick up a special license for the event that will upgrade over time. There’ll be Quests and Bounties to complete that will reward players with brand new gear, including new race suits, Sparrows, and other end-game level items that even go up to Light Level 320.

An exclusive Sparrow Racing League quest will be offered to PlayStation users during the event, along with an exclusive Sparrow. New Sparrows can also be purchased from Tess Everis and her Trading Company, though many of the Sparrows players have already collected from Raids be competitive. By the sounds of it, players will need to own Destiny: The Taken King in order to participate.

Below are two videos you won’t want to miss: a ViDoc about Destiny’s Live Team and the upcoming event and a special PlayStation Experience LiveCast with Destiny Community Manager David “DeeJ” Dague showing off new gameplay from the Sparrow Racing League update.
