New Battlefield Game: DICE “Cherry Picking” Best Parts of Other BF Games; Looking for Best Latency at Largest of Scales

[summaraize]

With Battlefield 2042, not only did it not meet publisher Electronic Arts’ sales expectations, but it also didn’t meet the expectations of a lot of Battlefield fans. Aside from forcing specialists onto gamers, it also had some gameplay elements that didn’t really sit well with community.

Thankfully, DICE Is aware of this, and one of their strategies in building the new Battlefield game is “cherry picking” the best parts of other Battlefield games to implement into the new one they’re making.

DICE Developer Comments on New Battlefield Development Process

Over on Twitter/X, Battlefield Lead Producer David Sirland interacted with fans and answered questions about development. While he couldn’t go into specifics (understandable), Sirland still confirmed a few things.

When a fan commented on how they are afraid of the physics of the new Battlefield game—especially the flying vehicles—since they are bad, the person mentioned whether DICE is aware of this.

Sirland’s reply (spotted by EndersFPS) confirmed they are aware of things that the player base didn’t like about BF2042, and how they’re using “the best possible cherry picking strategy” to get the best parts of each Battlefield game that they’ll want to implement in the in-development game.

“We are pretty well informed of what were not appreciated in the last one, the one before and the other lot. We are looking to find the best possible cherry pick strategy for each area. You’ll have to play to see what I mean,” Sirland notes.

In another conversation, Sirland was asked about optimization and target frames-per-second (fps), and how they hope the game will run well and not just rely on upscaling and frame gen.

Sirland responded, “It’s never too early or too late to talk performance :). The goal is to allow for the best possible latency of gameplay at the largest of scales. We are doing things we haven’t done before to achieve that. There are more details in the labs build, and we’ll discuss specifics later on.”

This is excellent news to hear. Having said that, it is very early days, and Battlefield veterans might remember DICE promising things in previous Battlefield games before that didn’t come to fruition. However, given the lackluster reception to Battlefield 2042, I’m hoping the studio finally listens to the community to some degree.

In other Battlefield news, DICE’s first test on Battlefield Labs will look at combat and destruction, as DICE will likely continue the program post-launch.  Even if BF2042 disappointed the community, interest in the game remains high, as Battlefield Labs reached over 1.3 million registrants within a day of the sign-ups going live.

Cat Quest 3 Update 1.003 Purrs Out for Mew Game Mode

[summaraize]

The Gentlebros. has released the latest major update for Cat Quest 3, which current-gen console owners will see as update 1.003 (those on last-gen, this will show up as download 1,10). This brings the Mew Game Mode, and a short list of fixes, too.

Read on for the full patch notes and the trailer featuring the Mew Game Mode and the moewdifiers players can toggle to get better rewards.

Cat Quest 3’s Latest Update for Feb. 10, 2025 Adds New Game With Modifiers

Here’s what’s new per the studio:

Conquer the seas of the Purribean in Mew Game Mode and earn some treasure for completing it. The more meowdifiers selected, the greater the reward!

Meowdifiers

  • Nine Lives – You can only ‘Game Over’ nine times. After which, the game kicks players back to the main menu and deletes the save file.
  •  Ruffer Enemies – Different and more powerful enemies appear.
  • Naked Paws – Armor and weapons cannot be equipped. Trinkets still can be equipped.
  • Purre Magic – You can only cast spells. Mana regenerates automatically and quickly.
  • No Leveling – You cannot level up.
  • Fast Furwards – Everything moves at twice the speed. Even you.
  • No Upgrades – You cannot upgrade anything, not even spells.
  • Furriendly Ship – Your ship does one damage.

Patch notes

  • Shield dodge animation has been tweaked to look more unique.
  • Slightly reduced the damage of Mewteor and Ice Paw.
  • Bug fix: certain items were given at too high a level.

That’s it for what’s new in this title update. If you haven’t checked out the game, go read our review, where we awarded the game an Editor’s Choice award for excellence.

Resident Evil 5 Has Been Rated for Xbox Series by the ESRB

[summaraize]

Resident Evil is one of the biggest horror survival franchises in the gaming industry. One of the most popular entries in the franchise was Resident Evil 5, which was released over a decade ago.

While the game has already been released for last-gen consoles, it appears a native  current-gen version is on the way.

Resident Evil 5 May Finally Coming to Current-Gen Consoles

Resident Evil 5 Rated xbox esrb

Resident Evil 5’s Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) rating for the Xbox Series has recently surfaced. While the game has already been out for quite a while, the recent rating could mean that it is finally coming to more platforms. It’s worth noting that last month, an ESRB rating for Resident Evil 6 has also surfaced via the ESRB.

The Resident Evil5 ESRB rating for the Xbox Series reads, “This is a survival-horror game in which players assume the roles of two agents attempting to stop a viral outbreak. From a third-person perspective, players explore environments, solve puzzles, and battle mutated humans and creatures. Players use pistols, shotguns, machine guns, knives, and grenades to kill enemies. Combat is highlighted by cries of pain, realistic gunfire, and blood-splatter effects. Some attacks result in dismemberment and/or decapitation. Several environments depict bloodstains, corpses, and internal organs scattered around. Cutscenes depict further instances of violence and/or blood and gore: a man eaten by a crocodile; a character dramatically impaled; a character killed by a chainsaw attack; a character bit in half by a mutated creature. The word “f**k” appears in the game.”

As the rating suggests, the next platform the game could be released on is the Xbox Series X|S. Unsurprisingly, the game has been rated Mature 17+ for containing strong language, blood, and gore.

However, it’s best to wait for an official announcement, which is likely to be made soon. Typically, an announcement is made first before the rating is officially revealed, though cases like these where the rating is spotted first are quickly becoming the norm.

Capcom has re-released the first few Resident Evil games as remakes in recent years, though there’s no indication that this one is a remake. Having said that, if this was a remake of Resdient Evil 5, we wouldn’t be surprised given the latest remake released has been Resident Evil 4 in 2023 (Read our review of it here).

If it’s not a remake and simply a current-gen native port, it remains to be seen how the game will perform on current-gen consoles. Hopefully, it’s at least a stellar upgrade rather than a straight 1:1 port.

For those unfamiliar with Resident Evil 5, it’s the fifth mainline entry in the series. It stars Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar. Released on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2009, it received primarily positive reviews.

Valve has updated the Steamworks documentation to clarify the types of advertising and promotions allowed on Steam, explicitly banning advertising-based business models that are often seen in mobile games, especially the kind that force players to watch ads to continue playing.

While some forms of advertising are still allowed, such as product placement ads or cross-promotions between games, paid advertising within the game that interferes with the gameplay experience is now prohibited. Valve explained (via GamingOnLinux) that games can feature real-world brands, products, personalities, etc., as part of gameplay, as long as such representations are not annoying and fit within the context of the game.

What Steam Does Not Allow in Advertising-Based Games

valve steam ads

Steam now prohibits using ads as a business model, meaning games cannot require players to watch ads or engage with them to continue playing. Valve insists that games using this model on other platforms must adapt to these rules.

“Some options you could consider include switching to a single purchase “paid app,” or making your game free to play with optional upgrades sold via Microtransactions or Downloadable Content (DLC).,” Steam suggests. Developers are also forbidden from using advertising as a way to provide extra value, such as offering rewards for watching ads.

Although this type of annoying advertising is rare on Steam, Valve is taking steps to stop it from becoming more common. In the past, Valve has also stopped NFT games and now asks developers to mention if their game uses artificial intelligence in the store description.

In other news, Steam has introduced a warning for Early Access games that haven’t been updated in over 12 months. The warning will show how long it has been since the last update, improving transparency for players.

Delta Force Black Hawk Down Campaign Release Date Set for February 21

[summaraize]

After hitting a bit of a delay from its original Season 2 release, Delta Force Black Hawk Down, the campaign remake of the original game, finally has a deployment date.Soon, players can relive the Black Hawk Down campaign, solo or with a friend, as Team Jade revealed that Delta Force Black Hawk Down will be released on February 21.

No One Gets Left Behind

The release date announcement is accompanied by a short teaser trailer, which will likely lead up to an eventual launch trailer shortly before release.

Besides the sneak peek, there’s not much else that has been shown of the campaign, nor any word on how many players we can co-op with through it. What we do know is that Team Jade aims to “faithfully” reimagine both the 2001 Ridley Scott movie and the classic Delta Force series campaign with this new release, and judging from the snippets of gameplay footage we’ve seen so far, it seems to be the case.

For those wondering whether the campaign will be free, considering that Delta Force multiplayer is free-to-play, the answer is no. Team Jade hasn’t specified how much it will cost, which we expect will accompany the full reveal in the coming weeks.

Insomniac Games’ “Most Stressful Period” Was When They Moved Away From Working With Sony, Claims Founder

[summaraize]

While Insomniac Games might seem synonymous with Sony and the PlayStation brand now, that wasn’t always the case. The studio once moved away from developing PlayStation-exclusive games.

This happened back in 2010 when Insomniac Games announced their partnership with Electronic Arts under the EA Partners label for the game Fuse, which was released in 2013. If you don’t remember it, I don’t blame you, as the game really didn’t click with anyone, and is one of the lowest-rated game in the company’s history. The studio also developed Sunset Overdrive exclusively for Xbox with Microsoft publishing the game, and this was released on the Xbox One in 2014.

After that, the studio released more games as a third-party studio, such as Edge of Nowhere for the Oculus Rift (2016), Song of the Deep published by GameStop (2016), Stormland for the Oculus Rift, and a few more smaller games before Sony acquired the studio in 2019.

Insomniac Games and Sony’s Philosophies Aligned

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PC requirements

In a video chat with Kinda Funny Games, Ted Price, the CEO and founder of Insomniac Games who announced his retirement recently, was asked what was the most stressful period of his tenure as CEO?

Price replied, “I think the most stressful period was when we had moved away from working with Sony, and we were getting comfortable with working with other partners who had completely different approaches than we did. I think we had become so compatible with Sony in terms of our approach and philosophies, that it was a little bit of a shock, and took some adjusting to work with other our approach and and philosophies that it was a little bit of a shock; and it took some adjusting to work with other publishers, and that can be distracting, when you’re trying to get games out the door. I think for every developer-publisher relationship, it takes time to mature and get to a place where both parties are comfortable. And during that period when we weren’t working as closely with Sony, we didn’t give it enough time; we didn’t give ourselves a lot of time with these other publishers before we ultimately went back to Sony. But at the same time, I think we knew what we were looking for, and we knew that from the beginning we had the best and most compatible partner we had always been Sony.”

Given the quality and success of Insomniac Games’ in recent years, I can’t say I disagree with Price.

While Price might be retiring, the studio isn’t going anywhere, as they are hard at work on Marvel’s Wolverine, which we’re hoping to see more of this year.

Aside from the reveal, the info we’ve gotten regarding Marvel’s Wolverine all came from the massive Insomniac Games data breach, and a statement released addressing Marvel’s Wolverine. Hopefully, we’ll hear more about the project soon.

“Project TH” Looks Like the Splinter Cell Game We’ve Been Waiting for, Set to Launch on Consoles and PC

[summaraize]

While Ubisoft has announced they are developing a Splinter Cell remake, the initial trailer was released back in 2021, with Ubisoft’s only update being the concept art stuff that was released as part of the franchise’s 20th anniversary in November 2022,

If you’re looking for something close to it, Korean developer EVR Studio’s in-development project might be worth watching. Currently titled only as “Project TH”, the game is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. It’s a third-person, interactive-action adventure game based on the world of Mudang (Korean for Shaman) created by Korean webtoon artist Seok Jung-hyun (also known as Stonehouse).

There are new trailers featuring gameplay that looks excellent so far.

Project TH In Development by Korean Studio Looks to Bring That Splinter Cell Vibe

In the trailer above which showcases the enemy AI (artificial intelligence), EVR Studio says that they are not just an obstacle but a “combat force that adapts to its environment and moves with tactical precision.”

EVR Studio explains, “Enemy soldiers do not simply patrol; they apply real-world tactical positioning to pressure the player. By utilizing cover, optimizing line-of-sight, and adjusting movement patterns, they gain an advantage in indoor combat. AI thoroughly clears rooms using entry formations, corner checks, and dynamic pathfinding, ensuring that no hiding spot is truly safe. When engaged, they quickly reposition and flank while using suppressive fire to cut off escape routes. They also take full advantage of environmental cover such as desks, pillars, walls, and doors, dynamically adjusting their stance and firing position based on the situation.”

The protagonist can use smoke grenades, flashbangs, the game’s environment to survive the onslaught.

There’s another gameplay trailer that features the game’s stealth, and let’s just say, Project TH’s protagnonist named Jung-tae, is a lot more brutal than Sam Fisher.

Some of the highlights in the second trailer include:

  • Assassinations: Both quiet and brutal executions as players eliminate their targets.
  • Stealth Tactics: Mastering the art of hiding bodies, luring enemies into traps, and using destructible lights to your advantage.
  • Advanced Guerrilla Tactics: Deploying proximity mines, advanced maneuvers, and crowd control to gain the upper hand.
  • Melee Combat: From exchanging blows to using counters and finishers, the hand-to-hand combat system adds a visceral layer to the gameplay.
  • In-Game SFX: The immersive sound design, including spatial gunfire, that elevates the entire experience.

We also get to see parts of the narrative as well.

Speaking of which, the studio has also revealed the game’s synopsis.

Peace has found it’s place in the Korean peninsula after a peaceful unification between the north and south. With its long-time adversary no longer in presence, mandatory military services becomes voluntary, and changes flow throughout the peninsula. Concerned with the lowered public’s security awareness, the National Security Command put in motion a new program called “The Ordo Project”. “Ordo” is an idol group used as propaganda to increase the number of the voluntary military enlisting, and quickly succeeds in gaining mass popularity and meeting its intended goals.

As Ordo gains popularity, voices of conspiracy arise, claiming that “Ordo” can only be described as a ‘phenomenon’, and is actually a brainwashing human weapon. At the same time, an unidentified armed organization is assembled to take out Ordo. The National Security Command organizes an elite combat unit, ‘Chasa’ to protect Ordo, and Jung-tae, a member of Chasa is assigned as the leader. -But Jung-tae had a problem of his own. He was suffering from a symptom, excruciating pain in his head, which can only be described as the pain of splitting his skull, only during decisive moments of battle. During a massive Ordo live concert, Jung-tae detects a threat on Ordo and throws himself onto the stage to protect Ordo from a group of armed attackers in masks. But once again, his symptom overcomes him and exposes him in danger. One of the mystery masks stares at Jung-tae and utters, “You, you’re a ghost?”. As the mystery masks run away leaving Jung-tae unharmed, Jung-tae realizes his excruciating pain is slowly fading away.

Of course, the transition from concept to actual gameplay is at a different level, and we hope Project TH will be able to deliver. The action game has no release date set, but it is confirmed for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Given the success of Stellar Blade from Korean developer Shift Up, we’re keeping a close eye on Project TH.

Krispy Kreme Compensating PlayStation Gamers for PSN Server Outages With Free Donut

[summaraize]

While PlayStation continues to remain silent on the status of its servers, which appear to be slowly coming back online, many have wondered if the publisher plans to compensate players for the PSN outages. Though we think it’ll be unlikely, one company is stepping up ahead of Sony with some freebies.

That company? None other than Krispy Kreme, as they’re giving free donuts today to gamers affected by the outage.

Krispy Kreme Offering A Free Glazed Donut to All Gamers

In case anyone’s been living under a rock these past 24 hours, the PlayStation Network is down. However, as of the last hour, things appear to be slowly coming back, as features such as store access (don’t recommend buying anything), trophy list, library, friends list, and other account management features appear to be accessible. Still, online gaming seems to be affected, with many unable to play games such as GTA 5, Marvel Rivals, Fortnite, Call of Duty, and other online-centric games.

With this happening during the weekend, the time of the week when most gamers are off of work and school, many have been wondering if PlayStation has any plans to compensate for the time loss. That’s still unknown, but the doughnut-making company Krispy Kreme has heard those complaints. While they can’t do anything to get the servers back up and running, they can at least keep you a little bit busy while you wait, as they’re offering one free Original Glazed Doughnut from

Look, free is free, though sadly for me, we haven’t had a Krispy Kreme in my state of Minnesota for over 20 years now. I’m not sure if it’s even worth a drive to get it, even if there was one here, but, hey, at least someone is showing they care. It really isn’t that hard to send out a status update every now and then, PlayStation; even if it’s good, anything is better than nothing!

Have things improved for those who have recently tried to check if the network is up?

New Battlefield Gameplay Breakdown From Battlefield Labs Trailer – Check Out What You Might Have Missed

[summaraize]

Last week, publisher Electronic Arts released a trailer for Battlefield Labs — the community testing environment for the next Battlefield game, which the publisher confirmed will launch before April 2026.  While the Battlefield Labs trailer showed a few seconds  of gameplay, it went by quite fast and a lot is happening in the clip as well.

We have the new Battlefield gameplay breakdown below if you want to know what crucial information was shared.

Battlefield 2025 Gameplay Debut Breakdown Reveals New Details

The short gameplay can be seen in the video above, as we’ve cropped it for an easier way to see it without needing to rewind, forward the main Battlefield Labs trailer.

In a collaboration with content creator Flakfire, the gameplay footage gets dissected a bit. Obviously, a big focus will be the multiplayer gameplay reveal at the end. All of this is supposedly pre-alpha, in-game footage – and if so, that’s really impressive. Right off the bat, we can see an M4 Carbine. If it seems a bit familiar to you, there’s a reason for that. The same model was used during a demonstration for an “Imagination to Creation” segment during EA’s investor day last year. It was designed to demo a “text to game” concept, which could mean some form of that tool arriving with the next Battlefield title, perhaps upgrading or even replacing Portal.

The setting here is likely in the Middle East and possibly the map referenced in earlier concept art. Destruction is also a highlight of the trailer. It’s not surprising, as EA was given an earful for the lack of it in Battlefield 2042. The next game has been built with that in mind. Based on what was shown, the destruction seems very detailed. Most buildings crumble in small pieces, and the impact seems quite large – the RPG shot demolishes a three-story facade. You might also notice the air-conditioners on the buildings spark when they’re destroyed, giving the illusion it’s a functional unit. The destruction also doesn’t seem limited to front-standing structures like balconies. If you look around at the edges of the building, you can clearly make out that entire walls are coming down, broken into multiple pieces. If the clip went on further, we gather the building might look similar to the one on the right, where it’s entirely open.

In another part of the teaser, we get a sneak peek at what could be another map. It looks like a close-quarters experience, and again, destruction seems to be a big focus. This also gives us our first glimpse of the new game’s user interface. Another shot with the previous M4 reveals what could be another piece of the UI, and it seems inspired by Battlefield 4.

There’s a variety of weapon customizations in the shots if you take the time to look at them, including attachments like a vertical foregrip and different scopes that appear in other parts of the trailer. Perhaps the other most interesting part of the gameplay is what isn’t noticeable — the player’s cosmetics. There’s nothing over-the-top here, and we see some character models repeated — so this might be our first look at the return of classes.

Additionally, enemy soldiers appear quite different from the “good guys,” — which was a problem with Battlefield 2042 and having the same specialists for both sides. It’s rumored this section of the trailer is from the game’s campaign, so it’s worth mentioning there’s a shot of someone working on what appears to be AI awareness in a campaign setting, so there will likely be stealth opportunities in single-player.

Regarding combat mechanics, it’s a bit difficult to tell from these angles, but leaning might be present in-game. I also want to draw your attention to this – you might notice the character flips his weapon out to the side and no longer appears to ADS. This might indicate the new Battlefield game will have a tac stance, something that’s been popular in many recent FPS titles. It could also just be an AI checking the weapon’s chamber before reloading. Your guess is as good as mine.

Vehicle-wise, we did get to see what is probably an M1A2 Abrams tank, complete with a remote turret. That’s appropriate for the setting, which is supposed to be a modern-day experience. There’s also what looks like a UH-60 Blackhawk and potentially a drivable sedan.

Meanwhile, we did get a fresh piece of concept art, in what appears to be a museum or perhaps a corporate HQ. There’s a large statue in the middle.

If you were paying close attention at the start of the trailer, the logo shot in the beginning has some GPS coordinates. Interestingly, they point to Toronto, Canada, and specifically its city hall. One of the studios under the Battlefield umbrella is located in Canada as Motive Studio is in Montreal. But to my knowledge, there’s no direct tie-in between Battlefield and Toronto. So, it seems odd to place those coordinates on the opening screen. It could be a coincidence or a tacit reveal for one of the locations in the upcoming game. We know we’ll be traveling to a few different places as other concept art has revealed that Gibraltar is likely one of them.

On a fun note, we see a developer hard at work, looking at some character models. I’m sure it’s just for a bit of light reading – but this guy’s got a copy of Imminent – Inside The Pentagon’s Hunt for UFOs. Maybe that’s for some Easter egg inspiration? Who knows.

The last important bit is that it’s highly likely the footage we’re seeing for this trailer is months old. There are a couple of date references in the video that show it was largely shot in early November 2024. Hopefully, this means the Battlefield Studios are in good shape as we get into the game’s release window (before April 2026).

Most Battlefield games release in the October-November window, but with Grand Theft Auto 6 and a new Call of Duty release looming, who knows? Battlefield Hardline and Bad Company 2 did release during the month of March. I suppose it will also depend on the success of Battlefield Labs and how the community embraces early looks at the game.

You can check out the breakdown in video form below:

Once again, thanks to Flakfire (make sure you subscribe to his YouTube channel and follow him on X) for this collaboration effort.

Based on the amount of people who signed up for Battlefield Labs, interest in the game is very, very high. Stay tuned for the latest and most reliable Battlefield news here on MP1st.

PSN Is Still Down on February 8, Sony Aware of Server Issues

[summaraize]

It’s a bad weekend for PlayStation gamers, as the PlayStation Network (PSN) is still technically down a day later, on February 8, 2025. After the server issues surfaced yesterday afternoon, players on PS4 and PS5 still cannot play online multiplayer.

The PlayStation Store is still up, though we’re unsure how this outage might affect purchases. Games can still receive title updates; at least that’s working.

PSN’s Server Outage Is Worrying Given the Lack of Communication by Sony

Sony’s only statement about the server outage is via the Ask PlayStation Twitter/X account, where it says, “We are aware some users might be currently experiencing issues with PSN.”

It then links to the PlayStation Network Status page, which shows services are experiencing issues.

Mind you, this was eight hours ago, and even that announcement was late by a few hours. Given the lack of communication, this is a bit worrying, especially considering Sony’s history with the PlayStation Network’s security.

For those not old enough to remember, in 2011, the PlayStation Network was down for a total of 23 days, due to an “external intrusion.” This led to the personal data of about 77 million compromised accounts. It was so big that the US government stepped in. Lawsuits were filed, and at the end of it all, Sony held a press conference on May 1, 2011 where a “Welcome Back” program was launched. This included an additional 30 days for existing members, free themes, and free games.

That outage was so significant that it even has its own Wikipedia page.

Is the same thing happening again? We can’t say for sure, but the extended downtime and lack of communication are a bit worrying. We’ve contacted Sony about the outage and will update the article if we hear back.

We’ll monitor things and will update this article if anything significant happens. If you can connect to a game, comment below and let us know which region you’re connecting from.

Report: Avalanche Working on Hogwarts Legacy DLC, Sequel; “Refreshed Version” on the Way

[summaraize]

It seems that work is underway for Hogwarts Legacy 2, as a new report claims that Avalanche Software is now working on the sequel.  But that’s not all. While the first game just received official mod support, the studio is now working on new content for it, it’s claimed.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 Is In Development, But We’ll Get A Chance to Revisit the First Game With New Content

Hogwarts Legacy 2

As reported by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, the sequel to Hogwarts Legacy 2 is now underway at Avalanche Software. There’s not much to share besides that tidbit of information, but Jason notes that his sources also confirmed new content is coming the first game.

“Avalanche is now working on new content for Hogwarts Legacy as well as a sequel. But questions linger about whether the success of the first game can even be replicated, let alone surpassed — or if the pent-up demand has already been satiated,” it’s noted.

Another interesting bit in the same report is that Schreier mentions, ” The company had been counting on Suicide Squad and MultiVersus to generate revenue throughout this year, but instead has ended support for both games. In the wake of this miscalculation, Warner Bros. now has little to release in the stretch ahead, beyond a refreshed version of the 2023 hit Hogwarts Legacy, a Lego title, and a few mobile games.”

This “refreshed version” of the game could be the Director’s Cut version rumored to be in development by Rocksteady Studios

Since the first game’s release, fans have requested new content, such as quests and expansions. While Avalanche previously said they had no plans for such content, the first game’s success seems to have changed those plans—at least for Warner Bros., as it was their highest-selling title for 2023, achieving over 22 million in January 2024. As of November 2024, Hogwarts Legacy has sold 30 million copies.

We’re hopeful that the new content being worked on is more of an expansion rather than some small quest or cosmetic. Especially with the sequel in the works, now would be the perfect time to release something for the first game that could tie it more directly into the sequel.

While Schreier is as reliable as they come, this is still not official news, so until Warner Bros. announces or refutes it, take it with a grain of salt for now.

Fortnite Servers Down and Unable to Matchmake This Feb.7, 2025

[summaraize]

Fortnite players are having issues signing in regardless of which mode they’re trying to play; it’s not just you. It seems a ton of people worldwide cannot access the Fortnite servers this Febuary 7, 2025.

This server outage for the game comes hot on the heels of the PlayStation Network being down today

.

Players Reporting Fortnite Servers Are Down This Feb. 7, 2025

Update (2/8/25 at 1:10 am ET): PSN is still down, and Sony’s latest acknowledgement is the official Ask PlayStation Twitter/X account stating, “We are aware some users might be currently experiencing issues with PSN” and linking to the network’s status page, which mentions, “some services are experiencing issues.”

We’ll provide another update once more info is shared.

Players have reported the outage on Downdetector, and the number keeps on rising. Based on our observations, this seems to be tied to the PSN issue. So far, Epic Games has not said anything about the server outage, but we hope that changes soon.

Over on Reddit, players are also reporting it’s down as well, with some getting disconnected mid-match. This comes at a rough time, as players just received the big OG Chapter 1 Season 2 patch last week.

Upon checking PSN, if you try to verify your game license, you’ll be greeted with a maintenance message, though that’s not available anywhere else, which is kind of odd.

We’ll update the article once more information about the server issues becomes available, so stay tuned here on MP1st.

Keep it locked on MP1st for the quickest updates on game patches and server outages.

Marvel Rivals Down This February 7 With Login and Connection Errors

[summaraize]

If you’ve been trying to get into a match in Marvel Rivals and have been noticing some technical issues, don’t worry. You aren’t alone, as reports of Marvel Rivals being down have started to surface.

Players have noted issues with matchmaking and logging into the game.

Marvel Rivals Servers Appear to Be Down for Many Players

Marvel Rivals Down

Update (2/8/25 at 1:10 am ET): PSN is still down, and Sony’s latest acknowledgement is the official Ask PlayStation Twitter/X account stating, “We are aware some users might be currently experiencing issues with PSN” and linking to the network’s status page, which mentions, “some services are experiencing issues.”

We’ll provide another update once more info is shared.

Though NetEase has yet to acknowledge ongoing issues, thousands of users have begun reporting connectivity issues in Marvel Rivals across socials and on Down Detector. Players have mentioned they can no longer find matches within the game, with those booting into it no longer being able to sign in.

Interestingly, the PlayStation Network, along with several other games and services, all appear to be down or having issues, too, suggesting that this is likely a much bigger problem likely not related to the game itself.

As always, we’ll continue to monitor the situation, and should anything change or any official statement be published by NetEase, we’ll be sure to let you all know.

For now, we’ll just have to wait it out and hope the situation improves soon.

PSN Down With Players Reporting Server Issues for Games This Feb. 7, 2025

[summaraize]

Update (2/8/25 at 1:10 am ET): PSN is still down, and Sony’s latest acknowledgement is the official Ask PlayStation Twitter/X account stating, “We are aware some users might be currently experiencing issues with PSN” and linking to the network’s status page, which mentions, “some services are experiencing issues.”

We’ll provide another update once more info is shared.

If you’re looking for some weekend gaming on your PS5 or PS4, you’re in a predicament now, as the PlayStation Network (PSN) is down for all players worldwide this February 7, 2025 (Feb. 8 for those outside the US).

Oddly enough, access to the PlayStation Store seems to be fine, though you won’t be able to connect to matches, games’ online services and whatnot.

PSN Is Down This Feb. 7, 2025 According to Numerous Reports

Over on Downdetector, a whopping 40,000 people have filed a report mentioning PlayStation Network is down. We tested it ourselves, in different countries and regions, and it is down for everyone.

Over on Reddit, multiple people have reported on the outage as well.

Sony has not announced any maintenance or server downtime for today, so this is something unexpected. Over on the official PSN Status page, it lists “all services are up and running” though that just means Sony hasn’t updated it yet.

Chances are, this will be a short downtime, though given Sony’s past server woes, anything is possible. If you can load the PSN Store, don’t forget there’s a limited-time PlayStation Plus-exclusive Weekend Offer sale, which houses some AAA games.

If Sony releases an update about the server situation, we’ll update the article, so refresh it occasionally. If you can somehow connect to the PSN servers, leave a comment below and let us know where you’re connecting from.

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Age of Wonders 4: Premium Edition Save 30% $62.99 – Have not played this, but it’s still getting a ton of support. It’s a turn-based strategy game that gets seasonal content. YouTube it to make sure it’s your cup of tea.
  • Alone in the Dark Save 25% $29.99 – The latest reboot of the granddaddy of survival horror. Stars David Harbour. Reviewed OK, but failed to meet sales expectations. Combat and movement kind of janky, but serviceable enough for horror junkies.
  • Among Us Save 40% $2.99 – If you’d rather play on console than your mobile device, this is already super cheap. It’s great with friends and still gets content drops.
  • Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Deluxe Edition 67% $26.39 – Ubisoft open-world but with Avatar’s license. Better than expected and still getting DLC and support.
  • Biomutant 75% $9.99 – Action RPG by Experiment 101 that was a surprise hit. You play as a squirrel or something which features your usual third-person stuff.
  • Castle Crashers -80% $2.99 – 2D hack-n-slash released ages ago but the gameplay is topnotch and it’s an awesome party game for co-op.
  • Crysis 2 Remastered 75% $7.49 – The sequel to the first game. While it might not have as much fanfare, it was still a solid campaign. It featured a solid MP too, though that’s not part of the remasters.
  • Crysis 3 Remastered 70% $8.99 – We are getting a fourth game, so if you jumped at the two games, get this one for maximum Crysis.
  • Crysis Remastered Premium $7.49 –Can it run Crysis? A game that spawned memes. This was the game to showcase your PC rig back then. Not sure how its gameplay holds up now.
  • Cuphead Save 30% $13.99
  • Disco Elysium – The Final Cut Extra $11.99 – Award-winning RPG. This features very little combat, and includes a lot of dialogue trees. Loads of people swear by this, and given a sequel isn’t coming anytime soon given the legal issues the devs are fighting over, I’d say maybe give this a go.
  • Hades Save 60% $9.99 – One of the best roguelites I’ve ever played. Graphics, audio work, voice acting are all topnotch. Addictive yet rarely frustrating. Easily worth the price.
  • Hunt: Showdown 1896 45% $16.49 – Still getting a lot of support for Crytek. First-person shooter instance-based looter shooter with PvE and PvP elements. It sounds like a video game corporate exec’s wet dream, but this one isn’t predatory (from what I’ve heard).
  • Jagged Alliance 3 50% $29.99 – Tactical RPG that reviewed very well at launch. Support for this has ended, but it’s a complete game on its own.
  • Prince of Persia™: The Lost Crown – Complete Edition 50% $24.99 – Metroidvania meets Prince of Persia. Fantastic 2D gameplay, and even got DLCs. Definitely worth a shot regardless if you like the franchise. This one includes the DLCs.
  • Slay the Spire 66% $8.49 – Roguelite deck-building game that won a ton of awards when released. Haven’t played this but given loads of people liked this, might be worth checking out.
  • Sniper Elite 5 Deluxe Edition 75% $22.49 – You shoot things, and the game gives you a slow-mo view of the carnage. This franchise might not be AAA, but it has persisted and even released a new entry this year. This one includes Season Pass One.
  • Star Wars Bounty Hunter and Republic Commando Bundle -30% $20.99 – Bounty Hunter is a PS2 game remastered and is a prequel to Episode 1. Republic Commando was originally released on PC and Xbox only, so this is your chance to play this tactical FPS.
  • Still Wakes the Deep Save 50% $17.49 – Psychological horror game that was released by The Chinese Room (Dear Esther), Story said to be good, but the gameplay might not be up to par if you’re looking for survival horror
  • The Elder Scrolls Online Collection: Gold Road Save 70% $17.99 – Includes DLCs. The Elder Srolls MMO that has been going on for years now. Still getting a ton of support with paid expansions, free updates.
  • The Forest
  • The Outlast Trials Save 60% $15.99 – Horror but with a multiplayer slant. Still gets a ton of support via seasonal content. Outlast’s gameplay is more of you hiding than fighting back.
  • The Thing: Remastered Save 25% $22.49 – Recently released remaster of the PS2 classic. Not sure how the difficulty curve sizes up today, but this was annoyingly hard back then from what I remember.
  • Undertale -40% $8.99 – Indie RPG that uses a top-down perspective. I suggest YouTubing this before considering it. This won a ton of awards when it was released. Personally have not played this, but including for reference.
  • Undisputed WBC Edition Save 25% $59.99 – One of the few boxing games on current-gen platforms. Includes DLC, but I’d suggest waiting for this on sale without the DLC since it’s way cheaper.

Which games are you getting? Don’t forget, we’ll be getting another sale later this month, so if you don’t find anything noteworthy here, there’s bound to be something you’ll like in the next one.

No Man’s Sky Update 5.54 Delivers Yet Another Round of Fixes This Week

[summaraize]

While Hello Games recently released a patch for No Man’s Sky that reduced load times among other improvements, the studio has pushed out another one today. Players can now download No Man’s Sky update 5.54 (PS5/XSX version 5.054), which ushers in a fresh batch of fixes.

This title update houses a smaller changelog than yesterday’s patch, though it’s one I expect the player base will appreciate nonetheless.

No Man’s Sky Gets Second Patch for the Week With Version 5.54

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue that could cause players to be sent to a system with all extreme planets during In Stellar Multitudes.
  • Fixed an issue that could prevent the Assembled Construct from being visible during In Stellar Multitudes.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause some plants and minerals to fail to appear on the discoveries list after being scanned.
  • Fixed an issue that caused empty star systems to generate too many synthetic lifeforms.
  • Fixed an issue that could make catching some fish very difficult on gas giants.
  • Fixed a rare crashed related to navigation.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when playing the PS4 version of the game on PlayStation 5.
  • Fixed a crash specific to Xbox.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause framerates to be choppy on Xbox.
  • Fixed an issue which caused visual issues while warping on Intel based Macs.
  • Fixed an issue which caused visual issues when DRS and GTAO were both enabled on Macs with Apple Silicon.

That’s about it from Hello Games. Don’t be surprised to see another patch released next week, as the dev team keeps track of known issues, and rsolves it as soon as possible.

Diablo 4’s Latest Update 1.076 Fixes HDR Issues

[summaraize]

Following the big patch we got a few days ago for Diablo 4, Blizard has released a new one today (February 7, 2025), Console gamers will see this as Diablo 4 update version 1.076 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, while last-gen platforms will have it appear as download 1.76.

This is a very minor patch, so expect this to be a small download, with nothing gameplay-related changed. This title update aims to fix technical issues more than anything else. After updating the game, you should see version 2.1.1b appear on the start-up screen (on all platforms).

Diablo 4’s Color Issues on HDR Displays Now Fixed

The only items listed by Blizzard Entertainment that are in today’s patch are:

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where colors could appear overly saturated on HDR displays.
  • Various stability improvements.

Players reported on the HDR issue shortly after the release of the version 2.1.1 patch, with one player stating. “Noticed that my game is very dark and colors are off after update 2.1.1 10 Legendary items appear to be red instead of their normal orange color.”

Before this patch was released, there was a workaround to it by turning HDR off and then toggling it on again. This patch should eliminate the need for such a workaround.

Given the sweeping changes implemented by the last patch, expect Blizzard to release a new one addressing any imbalances and bugs to be released at some point in the coming days/weeks.

If you haven’t checked that patch out, here’s a quick list of changes made to Vessel of Hatred DLC, and the current season, Season of Witchcraft.

Vessel of Hatred

  • The tooltip for the Qax Rune has been updated to more accurately describe its functionality.
  • The icons for various Unique Spiritborn Rings have been updated to make them more visually distinct from each other.

Season of Witchcraft

  • The spawn rate for Forgotten Altars has been increased.
  • More Ravens of the Tree will now appear in Headhunt Zones. Some have been saying there’s now more unkindness in the area.
  • Additional UI elements have been added for tracking Headhunt progress.
  • Two new Whisper bounties have been added.
  • New Icons for Headhunts have been added for visual distinction.
  • All existing UI elements have been adjusted to better convey progress of activities and where important points of interest, and notable monsters are.
  • An additional UI element has been added to track progress towards spawning Headrotten Bosses.

There’s a ton more bug fixes, improvements and even gameplay adjustments made, so make sure you read the complete changelog.
