New Borderlands 2 Patch On The Way For PS3/Xbox 360 And More

Good news vault hunters! If you’re currently enjoying Borderlands 2 on the PS3 and XBOX 360 platforms but have been affected by a mysterious freezing bug or have been waiting patiently for a fix for the Master Gee freezing issues, then you’re in luck.

Community manager over at Gearbox Software, Chris F. has recently stated that the upcoming patch for Borderlands 2 is currently under the certification process and they’re looking at a Dec 3rd-7th release for it. This patch is set to fix numerous of bugs, as well as finally nerf the Bee shield and every other Amp Shield. If your interested in readin more on this patch make sure to read our previous articles which contains all the patch notes.

In other Borderlands 2 news, a representative of Gearbox by the name of HellFace has also recently let the cat out of the bag on where to find one of the latest pieces of loot to be added into the game thanks to the recently released DLC add-on, Mister Torgue’s Campaign Of Carnage. If you’re wondering which loot in particular is in question, it’s none other than Tiny Tina’s Cobra Sniper Rifle. Hellface swrites:

So I will do what we normally don’t do, which is straight up tell you where the Cobra lives. Normally, you see, we enjoy the exploration and discovery, but in this case, it’s taking more exploration than we’d like.

The Cobra is dropped by…

The Burners!

Not one of the bosses. Just the regular guys. Any sniper rifle dropped by The Burners has a .88% chance to be Tiny Tina’s Cobra.

Perhaps at some point in the future we will revisit these odds in a patch. I make no promises.

For those who are wondering what exactly is so special about this particular sniper that people are farming aimlessly for, Tiny Tina’s Cobra has a 100% chance to cause an explosion causing massive damage to anything it hits, instantly killing any non bad-ass/bosses enemies. It is also capable of having a 180% critical damage bonus adding to its rather hefty base damage of 27,000.

If you plan on playing Borderlands 2 this weekend, don’t forget to check out the monthly Golden Key give away the good folks over at Gearbox have. For more information on what time it starts and when exactly the Golden Key’s will be given away, feel free to check out this link.

In your opinion, do you think Gearbox should fix the drop rates of weapons? Let us know in the comment section below!

Ex-Free Radical Dev: Star Wars Battlefront 3 Was 99% Done Before Cancelled

The Co-founder of Free Radical Design, Steve Ellis, opens up to the development of the much wanted yet now cancelled Star Wars title, Battlefront 3.

Speaking with gamesTM Magazine,

“It felt like we had turned a corner as a company,” he said. “We had had a dark period during the development of Haze, we’d had problems with our tech and we’d had some growing pains as we expanded to the size we needed to be, but it really felt like we were finally coming out of the other side intact.

For those who remembered the PS3 exclusive, HAZE, you’ll know that the title showed much promises but in the end, turned out to disappoint many.

“We were making a game with very high ambition. You could start a battle on the ground, jump into a ship and fly into space, continuing on to dock in a capital ship and continue the battle there. We’d had to build all kinds of new tech and overcome numerous technical challenges and limitations but we had done it.

“We had a 99% finished game that just needed bug fixing for release. It should have been our most successful game, but it was cancelled for financial reasons. I’m happy that people did at least get to see what we were working on and share the team’s enthusiasm for it.

Sad to see a project of such a size just be canned so far into development. Maybe one day we’ll see the revival of the title, till then we’ll just have to look forward to the other upcoming titles.

Thanks Nowgamer,

Battlefield 3 Aftermath – More Mirror’s Edge and Dino Easter Eggs Discovered

DICE continues to tease Battlefield fans in Battlefield 3’s latest multiplayer expansion, Aftermath, currently available for PlayStation 3 Battlefield 3 Premium members.

YouTuber xXHerseyBoyXx has spotted two interesting Easter Eggs hidden in two of Aftermath’s maps, Markaz Monolith and Epicenter.

Battlefield 3: Aftermath Mirror’s Edge Easter Egg

You may remember back in Battlefield 3’s beta days when players discovered Faith Connors’ messenger bag in Operation Métro. Yet again, DICE nods their heads at the Mirror’s Edge series, this time by placing Faith’s running shoes at the top of one of the buildings in Markaz Monolith. As xXHerseyBoyXx explains in the video below, you can also hear her breathing upon further inspection.

This Easter Egg is particularly interesting considering the recent news of DICE members working on a non-Battlefield project.

This one is simply tradition. [#BF3Dinos]

Call of Duty Sales in Decline With Black Ops 2 Down 15%, Halo 4 “Could Have Impacted Sales”

Though Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 may have sold an impressive $500 million worth of copies within its first 24 hours of release, current total sales aren’t quit matching up to the standards set by previous titles.

According to Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia, Call of Duty sales are on the decline.

“We believe unit sales of Call of Duty: Black Ops II are tracking down double digits year-over-year,” says Bhatia. “Our checks show initial sales of CoD: Black Ops II at some retailers were down as much as 20 percent. Subsequently, it appears sales of CoD did pick up a bit over the Thanksgiving holiday. We think the current sales curve suggests CoD: Black Ops II unit sales in its first year could ultimately be down 10 percent to 15 percent year-over-year,”

As it turns out, the original Black Ops could very well have been the series’ peak, in terms of sales. Bhatia explains, “If we are right, this would be the second year in a row this critical franchise will have seen units decline (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is down an estimated 5 percent versus Call of Duty: Black Ops). We estimate CoD generates 40 percent to 45 percent of the company’s EBIT on an annual basis and it goes without saying that weakness in this franchise is a cause for concern.”

Of the three main factors contributing to Black Ops 2’s dipping sales figures, the launch of 343 Industries’ Halo 4 may have certainly had in impact, mentions Bhatia. “We think there are possibly three reasons for the weakness in Black Ops II: 1) We note that ratings for Black Ops II on average were slightly lower than Modern Warfare 3, which may have impacted initial sell-through; 2) Black Ops II launched only a week after Halo 4, which could have impacted its sales; and 3) Black Ops II launched only a week before Thanksgiving, which may have caused some consumers to delay purchases in anticipation of potential deals/discounts.”

Bhatia also points out the significance of the next two years for Activision and the Call of Duty franchise. Not only will Battlefield 4 pose some stiff competition next fall, but 2014 will also see the release of the highly-anticipated FPS by newly formed EA studio, Respawn Entertainment.

What do you think? Are we seeing the beginning of the end of Call of Duty’s dominance in the FPS market? Did you skip Black Ops 2 this Fall for Halo 4? Tell us in the comments below!

Thanks, gamesindustry

Halo 4 Playlist Update For Monday, December 3

Another week, another Halo 4 playlist update! Along with news of next week’s updates, 343 Industries lets us in on what was patched and tweaked in last week’s update.

Along with last Monday’s playlist update and 4th Spartan Ops episode, 343 Industried pushed out yet another playlist update tweaking the following items:

  • Fixed scripting issues in Regicide
  • Fixed exploit locations on Solace
  • Fixed KotH on Complex
  • Fixed Mantis spawn timer on Meltdown
  • Made late joining improvements to Join in Progress in all game types
  • Reduced the window for Join in Progress in Slayer game types
  • Made improvements to Join in Progress for uneven starts

As for this coming Monday, SWAT will once again be returning due to its continued popularity, though FFA Throwback will be swapped for Team Regicide. As explained in the latest Halo Bulletin update, “Team Regicide is an all-new game mode in Halo 4, and it is a much different experience from the FFA version. The leading player from each team is crowned King and is worth a fixed 25 points to the other team; this makes protecting your King just as important as killing the enemy leader.”

Additionally, “Team Regicide features several medals, HUD, an announcer VO unique to the team variant, and is a heavily teamwork-focused game type, emphasizing many 4 vs. 4 team encounters and strategy. Unlike FFA Regicide, the King’s bonus does not fluctuate as the King gets kills.”

Team Regicide will be playable on the following maps:

  • Haven
  • Adrift
  • Complex
  • Solace
  • Abandon

As usuale, Community Manager Jessica Shea provides us “noobs” with a few tips and tricks for the newly introduced game mode:

  • Protect your King: Keeping your King alive is the key to success in Team Regicide. The other team will know where your King is!
  • Communicate: Keep an open line of communication with teammates and your King.
  • Use the boosts: It’s often best to time an offensive when your King has a power-up for that extra advantage in a team fight.
  • Hunt the enemy King: Especially if your team is down, the points are almost always worth it!

Lastly, check out the settings used for Team Regicide:

  • Teams: 4 vs. 4
  • Score to Win: 750
  • King Logic: Leading player [medal points] from each team
  • Regicide Points: 25 Fixed
  • Execution Points: 15
  • King Power-Up: Enabled
  • Time Limit: 12 Minutes

That concludes what you can look forward to in this Monday’s playlist update. As usual, expect another episode of Spartan Ops. Also, make sure to check out the latest trailer and screens for Halo 4’s first DLC, the Crimson Map Pack.

[UPDATED] God of War: Ascension Early Beta Access Within Reach, New Videos And Screen

Early God of War: Ascension multiplayer Beta is almost among us, as players of the browser title, Rise of The Warrior, near the targeted point mark.

Updated: It appears that the Spartan team has won the competition. When codes will be going out is not known at this time, but expect it to be real soon.

While for those who happened to be on the losing side, a recent tweet by Santa Monica may indicate that you’ll still get into the beta early,

If you did play the game, you’ll know that it was very lop-sided, so this may be an indication that they’ll let both side in.

With less than 50,000 points to go, players have been promised to be given early access to the Beta, which is set to launch next month. As a reminder ,you’ll want to get in on this action ASAP if you want early Beta access. You’ll be able to join in on the official page. Hopefully, your set on the winning team. You’ll also be able to get access when it becomes available on PS+.

Players who have been playing the browser title have also gotten opportunities for free DLC along with early in-game XP.

Here are two brand new videos, one featuring a “bad-ass” moment in the game, and the other continuing where we last left off with the behind the scene dev diary.

[youtube id=”tI8-6QyVcys” width=”618″ height=”378″]

[youtube id=”jSQ4UlPW6fI” width=”618″ height=”378″]

And, lastly, here’s a screenshot of one of the four pre-order DLCs, The Might of Orion.

Looks pretty cool! What do you guys think?

Black Ops 2 – Treyarch Game Design Director Seeks Feedback From The Hardcore Community

Treyarch Game Design Director David Vonderhaar has recently reached out to the Hardcore Call of Duty community in order to make the Hardcore experience in Black Ops 2 a better one.

In a thread on the official Black Ops 2 forums, Vonderhaar addresses the Hardcore community and the apparent “lack” of Hardcore playlists. He states that while Treyarch would love to add more Hardcore playlists, “the problem here is that not every game mode playable in a hardcore variant has sufficient enough traffic to warrant having it’s own playlist. Hardcore Free-For-All, for example, has a very low traffic count. This makes Matchmaking in that playlist more difficult.”

So, that’s why he wants your feedback. Treyarch would like to know what they can do to improve the Hardcore experience in Black Ops 2. “I am taking feedback as we think about how to provide more hardcore game modes as Public Playlists without fragmenting the small Hardcore community or matchmaking,” he adds. To get a picture of the current states of popularity for each Hardcore game mode, here is a small list provided by Vonderhaar in order of most to least popular.

  1. Hardcore TDM (by a large margin)
  2. Hardcore CTF
  3. Hardcore Search
  4. Hardcore FFA

While many if you may be tempted to ask for a Hardcore playlist of every game mode, Vonderhaar answers, “Hardcore is not a game mode. It’s a variant on the game rules. One that is popular with a very passionate, but very small crowd of people. Keeping the 80,000 (or so, across 2 platforms) of you together and able to play together has to be a priority over any specific variant.”

In closing, he promises the Black Ops 2 Hardcore community, that this year is no different from the rest. “Of course we’ll make adjustments. We always do.”

Are you a Hardcore Call of Duty player? If so, make sure to leave your contribution in the aforementioned thread right here. While your here, let us know what changes you would like to see made to Hardcore playlists in the comments below!

Ubisoft Survey Hints Assassin’s Creed 3 Sequel, Asks About Co-op in Solo Mode and More

We all know that no matter how the last installment of Assassin Creed ended, Ubisoft will never truly be done with the series. In a recent survey deployed by Ubisoft themselves, they ask gamers for their opinion on the next Assassin’s Creed title.

As reported by TheGamingLiberty, Ubisoft has asked whether or not players would want to see Connor or Desmond once again or even revisit the same time period again in future AC titles. Among those questions, they also ask whether players would like to see the possibility of being able to invite/join your friends so that they/you may assist in the solo missions.

Assassin’s Creed 3 does feature co-operative play, however this is limited to the online mode and not directly tied to the single player campaign.

Interestingly, they also asked if gamers were willing to purchase the next Assassin’s Creed if it released next year and also how their experience was with the highly acclaimed PS3 exclusive, Uncharted 3.

How do you guys feel about this, if it were to become true? Can we expect the next AC to follow co-op play similarly featured in the Borderlands series?

GTA Series Has Shipped 125 Million Copies, Will Not Follow Call of Duty’s Yearly Approach

With Grand Theft Auto 5 slated for release next year, Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick has revealed the total number of units the GTA franchise has shipped to date.

During a presentation at the Credit Suisse 2012 Technology Conference, Zelnick stated that Rockstar’s franchise has shipped 125 million units life-to-date. Further, GTA IV moved 25 million, which is one fifth of the series.

Zelnick compared the GTA series to the Bond movie series, explaining that 007 films are not released every two years or any fixed schedule. This is a model that GTA follows as well in order to keep the franchise “special,” stated Zelnick as reported by Gamespot via VG247.

In regards to how Zelnick feels about the Call of Duty franchise, he praised Activision for having several studios behind the franchise to keep its quality intact. However, he noted that it’s an approach Take-Two is unwilling to apply on the GTA franchise.

“It’s our view that if you want intellectual properties to be permanent, then you run the risk in that circumstance of having consumers fall out of love with that franchise. [Activision] obviously views the world differently,” Zelnick noted.

Also, Zelnick believes that Black Ops 2 didn’t move as many units as Modern Warfare 3 did in the same time frame. “That’s never been the case with one of ours,” he explained.

“Ours do better each time. Our view is it’s hard to make permanent intellectual properties if you annualize it, with the exception of sports titles. So far that’s proven to be the case. IP that is annualized eventually seems to hit the wall and we don’t want our IP to hit the wall.”

GTA V is set to release next year for PS3 and Xbox 360. The sequel is expected to move at least 25 million copies in its first 12 months on the market.

Bungie’s New Universe Revealed, “Destiny” Story Details and Concept Art Leaked

Back in May, it was first revealed that Bungie’s newest universe, dubbed “Destiny,” would span four different titles with the first one appearing exclusively on the current-gen Xbox 360 and the rest eventually making their way to the “Xbox 720,” “PS4” and PC. It was also confirmed to be a “sci-fantasy, action-shooter game” that would see four pieces of DLC in between each title’s release of every two years.

Today, IGN has received a ton of leaked details, including the basic plot, setting and description of Bungie’s mysterious new universe along with some interesting concept art.

According to the leaked document, Bungie claims that “the ambition is to create a universe as deep, tangible and relatable as that of the Star Wars franchise.” Destiny will be “centered around adventure and fun,” and “is designed to be highly social while also allowing for open exploration.”

Additionally, it mentioned that Destiny would be “social at its core” and will offer a “world to explore with friends, both old and new.” Destiny is also described as “fun and accessible to all, and always filled with friends.” If it is indeed not an MMO, it would seem that Bungie will still be incorporating some heavy social elements, based on the descriptions above. Multiplayer, either competitive or co-operative, could possibly play a large role in Bungie’s next project.

The document goes on to detail the basic set up of the story and setting that players will experience by fall next year:

Our story begins seven hundred years from now in the Last City on Earth, in a Solar System littered with the ruins of man’s Golden Age. A massive, mysterious alien ship hangs overhead like a second Moon. No one knows where it came from or what it’s here for, but only that it’s our protector. Meanwhile, strange, alien monsters creep in from the edge of the universe, determined to take Earth and the Last City. We are young ‘knights’ tasked with defending the remains of humanity, discovering the source of these monsters and – eventually – overcoming it.

Reaching out to Bungie for comment, they told IGN:

We’re not quite ready to take the wraps off our next universe, but in light of recent events we thought we’d give fans something a little more official over at Bungie.net. Feel free to drop by and say hello! There’s much more to come.

Shortly after, Bungie posted this official image with this caption:

Go ahead. Take a peek. It’s alright. We weren’t quite ready, but we will be soon, and we can’t wait to finally show you what we’ve really been up to.

Stick around, we haven’t even started yet.

Bungie also confirmed to Kotaku that “the document and some of the art is genuine, and is somewhat representative of the game. They declined to say if the art was out of date.”

Lastly, it would seem that Destiny could be the final name for Bungie’s newest project, considering the URL “destiny.com” was featured in other images provided to IGN.

Well, what do you think so far? Does the story and setting of Destiny sound interesting to you? What do you make of all the “social elements?”

We can’t wait to hear more and we’re sure you can’t either, so keep your sights on MP1st!

Augmented Reality: The Future of Multiplayer Gaming?

There’s been a lot of buzz lately about Ingress, Google’s latest foray into online social networking.  Instead of focusing on creating another facebook, Ingress is Google’s attempt at using that massive pile of data they’ve been collecting about us to use in a way that hasn’t really been done before, in an augmented reality game.  Foursquare, it seems, was just the beginning.

Now, because I haven’t gotten a precious invite to play Ingress yet, I can’t objectively review it.  If you’re interested in an in depth review, check this article out.  What I can say, however, is that people like Ingress, a lot.  Everyone I know that has played it, gamer and non-gamer, has gotten sucked into it in no time.  Given Ingress’s growing popularity, it can be assumed that Google is going to step it up in the future and combine Ingress with Google Glasses

If this BF3-inspired fan film is proof of anything it’s that people are on the augmented reality bandwagon.  The possibilities are endless when the entire world becomes the virtual battlefield.  To me, I’d much rather be out shooting terrorists in the streets of my city than be stuck in some nondescript desert..  That’s a big part of what has made today’s shooters so fun.  It used to be that shooting games were chiefly played on maps in outer space or some dungeon under a fictional castle.  Now we have games like COD bringing the fight to our front door and BF3 turning urban environments into war zones.  Given our desire to live dangerously in the safety of our own homes and cities, I think it’s a given that gaming is going to evolve to envelope the very world we live in.   Assuming technology can keep up with our dreams of taking down bad guys in our own backyard, it’s just a matter of time before augmented reality games are the big ticket item selling out in minutes on the night of release.

Obviously, people running around pointing air guns at thin air and scaring the crap out of everyone around them is probably going to be a roadblock for something like BF5 on Google Glasses, but given the level of immersion and possibilities for game-play and advertising, to me at least, it can’t not happen.  We’re starting to hit the limits of current gaming hardware (PCs, consoles, etc) and while there’s obviously a lot of progress to be made with what we have now, the stuff of the future looks way cooler than anything we have now.

Rumor has it, Microsoft will also be dabbling in Augmented Reality with the next Xbox and Kinect 2.0.

What do you think?  Does augmented reality seem like the next “big thing” in gaming?  Are you excited to see what it can bring to the table?  Or do you think real-world limitations are going to force things like BF5 on Google Glasses into obscurity?  Let us know in the comments!
