New “Tacitus” Image Surfaces on Call of Duty’s Website

Treyarch and Activision have just released another piece of intel in the form of a distorted image of the word “Tacitus.” Click on the image below for full size.

This is the second time the word “Tacitus” has been associated with the next Call of Duty, which is believed to be called “Black Ops 2,” as several clues suggest. FPSRussia wore a Tacitus shirt in the recent Call of Duty viral video. Also, Tacitus and Eclipse seem to be linked somehow.

According to the Official Playstation Blog, the new and third game mode that will be featured in Resistance: Burning Skies is called Survival Mode. Crysis 3 – Crytek Aiming For “The Best Looking Game That’s Ever Been Made,” DX11 Graphics Running on Consoles

If you’ve seen the recent Crysis 3 gameplay reveal trailer, than you’re probably busy mopping up rainbow puke off of your computer desk. If not, we have some interesting new details revealing what Crytek is up to when it comes to the console version of Crysis 3.

Last year, Crysis 2 PC fans were treated to a free DirectX 11 upgrade which drastically improved the game’s visuals. Crytek has already stated that this would be a feature included at the launch of Crysis 3 on PC. What we find particularly interesting, however, is that Crytek  has recently revealed that they have some how managed to get some of these features running on the console version of Crysis 3 as well.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Rasmus Højengaard, director of creative development at Crytek, stated, “we want to make sure as much as is humanly possible can translate from a DX11 variant into a DX9 variant, that will work almost as good on an Xbox console to whatever extent we can, because we don’t want the experience to be different between the platforms.”

Going into further detail, Højengaard explains the type of work the team is accomplishing on consoles: “It is very, very difficult, but it is possible. It just requires a lot of effort. Some of the stuff these guys are making work on consoles now is absolutely amazing. It’s render features that shouldn’t theoretically work on consoles, but they’ve managed to construct code that can emulate a similar thing from a… hack and slash sounds wrong, but they don’t have the same streamlined pipeline you would have with a DX11 structure, but they can get to a similar result just by experimenting and using tips and tricks.”

He added, “I’m not saying this will be in the game, but they managed to make parallax occlusion mapping work, which is an advanced form of bump mapping where you get silhouettes as well, and you have self-shadowing even though you have absolutely no polygons,” The interesting part of this features is that it’s “a very advanced feature, and it shouldn’t theoretically run on a 360, but they made it run on a 360,” claims Højengaard.

Of course, Crytek needs to balance the power of the CryEngine 3 with the hardware of consoles: “what it all boils down to is to what extent they’re able to use this without choking the console.” Højengaard added, “It’s always interesting to push stuff when the perception is you can’t push it anymore,” and “that’s definitely something we’re doing.”

You may wonder how Crytek is able to accomplish so much in such a short amount of time, seeing that Crysis 3 has only been in development for 1 year.  Højengaard explained, “we can just be very efficient about the production because we have a stable technology path and we’re not developing a new engine, and we have people who really know what they want to do with the game, which means we can get something out somewhat quicker than we could with Crysis 2, which had new engine development, and Crysis 1, which was new IP.”

Crysis 3 is shaping up to be one of the best looking games of this generation across all platforms. In fact, Højengaard recently told Gamerzines, “we’re just going for making the best looking game that’s ever been made, basically, and I think we’re well on the way,” when speaking about the quality of art and the availability of tech in Crysis 3.

Do you think Crytek has what it takes to muster up the ultimate benchmark for this generation of consoles? If so, let’s hope they can also back it up with some amazing multiplayer!

New Black Ops 2 Image Reveals Promotional Cover, More Ties to “Eclipse”

To add to the already large pile up of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 hints and leaks, new promotional cover art has hit the web revealing what looks to be the official Black Ops 2 logo as well as a clearer image of the mysterious soldier featured in recent teaser art.

This image below, provided by MW3Updates, shows what seems to be a promotional cover for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. While the Xbox 360 art is of the old style, the image of the soldier is much clearer compared to that of what we’ve seen up to this point and has also not been seen anywhere else on the web as of yet. You can compare this image with the orignal, blurry poster in this article. Obviously, the “Black Ops II” logo is something we have not yet seen either. Once again, the date reads 13.11.12, stating that the game will release on November 13th, 2012 as predicted earlier.

Additional clues to a potential gameplay feature discussed in our latest Black Ops II article have been discovered thanks to MP1st reader feraltomahawk. You may remember the recent FPSRussia video showing off the Prototype Quadrotor, also a potential killstreak hinted at in Black Ops 2, in which he wears a t-shirt labeled “Tacitus.” As feraltomahawk pointed out, Tacitus was a famous Roman Historian who wrote much of his work on aspects of war and the rule of the Roman Empire. The craziest part of this clue, however, lies in his connection to the word “eclipse,” which has been hinted numerous times already. Check out this excerpt from a book about his writings:

You can clearly see the word “eclipse” mentioned numerous times, referring to something about a soldier’s neglect. These clues could lead us to hints towards Black Ops 2’s story.

Make sure to stay tuned to MP1st on Twitter and Facebook as we gather more clues from Treyarch’s next Call of Duty title.

Battlefield 3 Dev Teases New Audio Easter Egg, Deeming it “The Hardest One to Find”

Update: Two more hints have been given by Tomas Danko as the easter egg has yet to be found.

According to Danko, “it will only happen if you are >110m and <350m from spotter + <350m from spotted AA and only if you are US faction.” Additionally, he’s provided this “Frostbite VO System 2.0 data driven logic flow” below. If you can figure it out what it actually means, it should lead to even more hints about this easter egg. Good luck! Read the original story below for full details.

Original Story: Tomas Danko, VO Producer at DICE, teases another hidden Battlefield 3 easter egg.

“Can you find this BF3 easter egg? Hint: Team mate >110 meter away spots hostile AA, maybe something else is spotted afterwards. What is it?” Tweeted Danko yesterday. So far, no one has yet to find it.

As for further clues, Danko has stated that it can be found on “any map where there are AA [Anti-Aircraft, mobile or stationary],” meaning maps like Kharg Island, Wake Island, Caspian Border or Operation Firestorm (CQ). Obviously, this easter egg is VO (Voice-Over) related and could be pretty tricky to catch. Danko admits it’s “the hardest one to find” and that “it’s probably ridiculously hard to spot it, and you can’t really repeat it at will.” He mentions that the real question is “What is being spotted that is not the regular hostile?” His latest hint states that “It’s not a vehicle.”

You may wonder why he teases such an easter egg six months after Battlefield 3’s release. Apparently, “…a bug stopped this easter egg from working and the bug got fixed in a major patch a while ago. That’s why,” according to Danko.

So, what could it be? You may remember Back to Karkand and it’s radio easter eggs in certain locations which featured classic Battlefield 2 music. These were quickly found, however. We wish good luck to any one on the search of this particular goodie. Make sure to leave your findings in the comments below!

Black Ops 2 Written in Morse Code, Official Image Tied to Eclipse, Futuristic Warfare, and More

As we await the next Call of Duty world reveal on May 1st, we have some tidbits to share with you.

Morse Code

When you look at the loading screen on the official site closely, you’ll notice that there’s a bunch of dots and lines that are in fact morse code for “Black Ops 2.” In addition to the trademark info in the source code, this is the second clue that the next Call of Duty is going to be a Black Ops title.

Thanks to SpiderBite, here are images of the loading screen and morse code translation:

Twitter Image

The official Call of Duty Twitter account has been updated with a new background. It features a clearer look at same guy from the retailer leaks holding a knife as well, as MP1st reader Bobshi noticed.

We found another hint at the word “eclipse” from Treyarch when checked the image url. As you can see below, the background is named, Eclipse_Twitter_BG. Remember, Black Ops 2 might release during a total solar eclipse.

FPSRussia’s Video Clues

Earlier today, we reported on a Call of Duty sponsored FPSRussia video showcasing a prototype of a futuristic quadrotor drone of the death. Although the real life video is believed to be fake, the quadrotor has every chance of being a killstreak in Black Ops 2, as evidence suggests.

However, there were other interesting nuggets in the FPSRussia video turned up by WoodysGamertag.

  • Take a look at the tablet used to fly the drone..
  • At the 2:10 and 3:30 marks you can see the amount of recoil the you might have to deal with in Black Ops 2.
  • The text on FPSRussia’s shirt has some significance, it reads “TACITUS.” Why is it important, you ask? FPSRussia normally only wears promotional shirts he offers in his store, TACITUS is not among what’s on offer at the time of writing.
  • Most importantly, FPSRussia mentioned twice that the machine gun mounted drone technology is 10 to 15 years out. With the fact that Activision sponsored the video in mind, this leads us to believe that Black Ops 2 might be set in the near future.

This is what we were able to gather so far, be sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook for more Black Ops 2 news.

First Black Ops 2 Killstreak Revealed? – Prototype Quadrotor with Machine Gun

Update: the image on Call of Duty’s website has been unlocked to show the quadrotor, and is directly linked to FPSRussia’s video.

Last night, Activision updated the official Call of Duty site with a countdown to the world reveal of the next Call of Duty on May 1st. Among the intel posted on the site, there’s a distorted image that MP1st reader, Feraltomahawk, cleaned up to see more clearly. The image shows a quadrotor drone, also known as a quadrocopter.

Coincidentally, FPSRussia’s latest video showcases a prototype quadrotor with a mounted machine gun wreaking havoc. At the end of the video, he teases that the quadrotor “might just be in the next Call of Duty.” On the outro screen of the video, an on-screen caption reads, “A big thank you to my friend makers of Call of Duty for sponsorship this video.”

The quadrotor will mostly likely be one of the killstreaks, or pointstreaks if Treyarch goes that route, in Black Ops 2, or might only feature in the single-player. Be sure to watch FPSRussia’s video below to see this bad boy in action.

Crysis 3 Release Date Leaked By UK Retailer

ShopTo, a UK based retailer, lists Crysis 3 to release February 15th, 2013 (15/02/2013). Last year’s Crysis 2 released March 22nd in NA and March 24th in the UK so the date isn’t too far off. You can check out the details below:

Call of Duty 9, “Black Ops 2,” Will Be Officially Revealed on May 1st

The official Call of Duty website teases a world reveal of the next Call of Duty on Wednesday, May 1st during the NBA playoffs on TNT. We expect a teaser trailer to be shown that night.

The site has been updated with the following image (click for full size) and a countdown until the reveal.

Here’s another image that was posted on the site:

It was previously believed, due to several retailer leaks, that May 2nd would mark the reveal date, but now you can officially mark down May 1st as the day to get your first look at 2012’s Call of Duty.

Update: Thanks to Gamedemption, we’ve noticed that the HTML code of the official site contains a Black Ops trademark,  fueling speculation that the upcoming title will indeed be a sequel to Treyach’s Black Ops.

[Updated] New Black Ops 2 Poster and Full Multiplayer Information Allegedly Leaked, Reveals Perks, Weapons and Release Date

Yesterday, it was noticed that Treyarch and Activision had begun their marketing campaign for their next Call of Duty title. Posters such as this one, containing a potential announcement date, began appearing in various GameStop locations. It also suggested the importance of the word “Eclipse” which, thanks to the help of some YouTubers, led us to believe that the next CoD will be releasing on November the 13th, 2012, a day in which a total solar eclipse will take place and also a day which happens to be the second Tuesday of the month, a day that CoD titles typically release.

Thanks to a brand new poster that has appeared on the PSPKing forums from an “unnamed source,” it seems that November the 13th will, indeed, be the release date of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, if it is to be believed. Check it out for yourself and let us know what you think in the comments below!

Update: A phrase in the description underneath the image in the forum post reads (translated): “results from the necessary editing of the original photo.” This suggests that the image could, indeed, be fake. However, we’ve yet to hear any further info about the “leaked” multiplayer details.

(Thanks, CharlieIntel)

It’s unclear what is said underneath the date, 13.11.12, which reads in a European format. The Black Ops 2 logo looks typical and unvaried from the font and style of the original Black Ops other than the “2” being orange.

Also leaked on the same forums is what appears to be an entire list of brand new multiplayer information. This ranges from new game modes, perks, equipment, weapons and attachments. You can compare it to some of the multiplayer information we gathered earlier. Check it out as listed on the forums below:

-Game Modes-

Escort ~ A game mode in which you escort a player across three flags to achieve victory. The enemy team killing the player will result in a win for their side.

Split Spawn ~ A game mode in which you spawn from a hellicopter, and climb down to get to the ground. The player starts with 3 lives. One player can control the chopper to let you climb down in different areas, as well as shoot from the chopper. If the chopper is destroyed, players can no longer spawn. Players compete for a central flag that takes 2x as long to capture than a regular domination flag. Either the death of all opposing players or the capturing of the flag will grant you a win. This game has 2 rounds.

Equalizer ~ A game mode in which players are switched to the enemy team upon death. Players will compete for a flag, which when owned, open up a power plant to allow the player to customize their class in game, get new weapons, and put on a juggernaut suit for their team only. When there are 2 players left on a team, they are granted with the power plant automatically, and pointstreaks up to a 5 point requirement can also be obtained. If either of the two players die, they will remain on their own team. The team with the most converts (kills) at the end will win. If tied, whoever is currently owning the power plant will win.

-Perks- (Only new and modified!) (Perk slot not yet defined!)

To clarify what elite is, it is a side-pro perk you can choose when leveling up the base perk. These elite perks ONLY work if paired with another BASE perk.

1. Spy – Appear as a friend on the map. (Disadvantage is, you’re always spotted even without a UAV, and when shooting, you turn red on the map)
b. Pro – Detect enemy spies. They will still always be spotted on the radar.
c. Elite – If Pilot is active, your airship will be marked as an ally.

2. Escape Artist – When going prone, you feign death (You cannot shoot during)
b. Pro – When approaching death, the enemies crosshairs will turn to white, and your name will dissapear.
c. Elite – if Diver is active – You realistically fall into your feign death instead of diving.

3. Audiophile – Players with silenced weapons will show on your radar if they are shooting at you or close around you.
b. Pro – Footsteps are louder
c. Elite – If bladesman is active – kniving will show up on the radar

4. Defuser – Throw all equipment but cookable grenades up to 2x farther – a hollow circle will show up around your crosshairs, and the circle will fill in 3 seconds. When the circle is full, it will throw 2x farther, when it is empty, it will throw 1x as far.
b. Pro – Be able to take semtex off of players and throw them elsewhere, and be able to pick up any enemy equipment and use it as your own.
c. Elite – if quickdraw is active – the circle will fill in 1.5 seconds.

5. Juggernaut – Regenerate health faster while moving
b. Pro – Regenerate health faster while crouched
c. Elite – If scavenger is active – you are able to drop ammo packs for your team.

Side note: Earlier, Treyarch Developer David Vonderhaar did mention that the next Call of Duty would not include regenerative health perks.

6. Diver – You can dive into cover (A.K.A. Dolphin Dive) – and while diving you can still shoot, however when you land it takes awhile to regain focus.
b. Pro – You crawl 2x faster
c. Elite – With Extreme conditioning active – You can sprint while crawling to crawl faster (3x) instead of getting up.

7. Pilot – Your flying killstreak’s kills will count towards your next killstreak.
b. Pro – Your controllable flying killstreaks will last until they are shot down.
c. Elite – With blind eye active – Your uncontrollable flying killstreaks will not show on the map.

8. Technician – Any land killstreak’s kills will count towards your next killstreak.
b. Pro – Your Advnaced UAVS will disable the enemies UAV
c. Elite – If defuser is active, your sentries cannot be taken down instantly.

9. Bladesman – You have 2 knives in each hand instead of just one in one hand. (This essentially makes knives kill twice as fast.)
b. Pro – You have a chance of dodging the incoming players knife.
c. Elite – If assasin is active – kniving will be completely silent and not show on the killfeed, unless countered by audiophile elite.

10. Conciousness – While standing, you are just as accurate as when you are prone
b. Pro – Your bullets cause more flinching.
c. Elite – If marksman is active – shooting your enemy will mark him on the mini map.

11. Focus – Be able to shoot while sprinting, even at the deduction of accuracy.
b. Pro – Be able to shoot while jumping, even at the deduction of accuracy.
c. Elite – If stalker is active – when jumping, equipment does less damage to you.

12. Deep Impact – Your bullets shoot through hard surfaces.
b. Pro – Your bullets gain 50% damage with each person they go through.
c. Elite – if steady aim is active – when hip-firing, your bullets have 10% more damage with each person they go through.

-NEW!!-
–Knife Melee Slot–

1. Default Knife – Takes 2 swipes to kill, you need to put it away, and take it back out like usual.
2. Tactical knife – Takes 4 swipes to kill, as long as you are pushing the melee button however, it will keep knifing
3. Tactical hammer – Takes longer to get out, takes 4 swipes to kill, you need to put it away and take it back out like usual, but against riot shields and machines it takes only 1 swipe to destroy.
4. Throwing knifes – Start with 4, fast to get out, fairly accurate, but takes 2 to kill and is ranged
5. Tomahawks – Start with 2, slow to get out, fairly innacurate, and takes 1 to kill and is ranged
6. Ballistic knife – [Disallows use of equipment] – A tactical knife in one hand, while a ballistic knife is in the other. You start with 2 ballistic knives, and they kill in 1 shot. These knives take a moderate time to get out. (With Bladesman on, you start with 3 ballistic knives and one ballistic knife in each hand.)

-Guns- (More than EVER!!) (These are the ones announced or finished so far)

“Black Ops 2,” Code-Named “Eclipse,” to Release on a Total Solar Eclipse Day?

You may remember our earlier report revealing what seemed to be a teaser poster for Treyarch’s next Call of Duty title, which clearly presents the date 05.02.12, hinting at a possibly reveal on May 2nd. This poster has recently begun showing up at various GameStop locations confirming its legitimacy as well as providing further clues to a potential release date for the next Call of Duty.

It turns out that either the next Call of Duty may not be called “Black Ops 2” after all or at least might have a new code-name. If you take a look at the images included below (provided by Gamerplex) you’ll notice the reoccurring word “Eclipse” throughout this promotional Activision tower.

Though many speculate that “Eclipse” will be the new name of Treyarch’s upcoming Call of Duty title, or at least its code-name, YouTuber MrRoflWaffles has gone a step further and has directly and mysteriously linked this word to what will most likely be the release date for this entry in his latest video.

Though originally thought to release on November 6th, Call of Duty titles typically release on the second Tuesday of the month. In this case, it would mean November 13th of this year. Now, here’s the kicker: As MrRoflWaffles has pointed out, it just so happens that a total solar eclipse will also be taking place on November 13th of this year. Crazy! You can see for yourself by checking out the official NASA website.

Interestingly, Treyarch’s third downloadable content, Annihilation, for Call of Duty: Black Ops included a Zombie map, Shangri-La, that featured an eclipse as easter-egg.

Pretty nuts if you ask us. Could this be a clever marketing campaign by Activision/Treyarch? Will the next Call of Duty title be named “Eclipse?”  Let us know what you guys think in the comments below!

Elastic Games Cancels Police Warfare Kickstarter, More News Coming Soon

Early this month we reported on an exciting new Kickstarter account called “Police Warfare”. According to a recent update by Elastic Games, the Kickstarter account has apparently been cancelled.

Here’s the latest update found on the official Kickstarter page:

Hey Guys,

Thank you so much for the incredible response to the game. We’re shutting down the kickstarter account but this is by no means the end of Police Warfare. News will be coming.

-EG TEAM

So, is the game cancelled? Not necessarily as this only means that the team has stopped accepting any funding from the public. The game could very well still be alive and a bigger publisher could have possibly picked it up.

Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Beta Impressions

If you were one of the many gamers who were able to secure a beta code, you were able to beta test the highly anticipated Ghost Recon: Future Soldier multiplayer. After a few years of delays and uncertainty around the development process, the public finally was able to get a grasp on where Ubisoft was taking the Ghost Recon series.

Like many other betas I’ve personally participated in, GRFS has it’s fair share of issues. In today’s shooter market, it’s almost imperative that you have a multiplayer beta because of how crowded the genre is. Developers should want a product that would want to drive players away from the current games they are playing to play the game they are putting out. With many years of development in the bag on GRFS, I believe it’s fair to say that not much of that time was spent multiplayer wise, or at least there’s not much evidence saying so.

Pipeline

The first thing you will notice loading up the beta are the menus. The menus are very bland and unattractive. With the game providing two squads of four on each faction, Bodark and Ghosts, it really becomes a pain when you want to play the game with a large group of friends. I tried finding a game in a party of four, and we kept getting separated, similiar to problems we’ve seen with the Battlefield 3 beta. Outside of that, other common bugs you will run into is menu screen freezes, game loading freezes, spawning issues, the crazy blast radius of frag grenades, among other little things. You can view known issues or give feedback of your own playing experience.

Outside of the known bug issues, the broken party system and the bland menu, the game is a lot of fun to play with friends. The last time we’ve seen a Ghost Recon title on console was back in early 2007. Based on the beta gametype Conflict, Ubisoft is going for an objective based multiplayer. Absent of a Team Deathmatch mode for the casual gamers, it becomes a problem when a lot of gamers don’t understand the gametype, or flat out treat it like a team deathmatch. If you are on a team that works together, understands the current objective, then GRFS will be a game you will want to pre-order as it does a lot of things well. I noticed my mood about the game changes between playing with random players, and playing with friends.

Mill

Gunsmith is one of the shining points of the multiplayer. You are literally able to edit and upgrade each part of your selected weapon, from the stock, to the trigger, magazine, and even the gas system. The detail put into this, with the amount of possible combinations, is truly amazing. The cover system is very similar to what we saw in Splinter Cell: Conviction and is very fluid once you get familiar with how it works. The two maps are very different in style. Pipeline is much smaller than Mill, and spawn camping becomes an issue on both maps if you are playing against inferior or inexperienced gamers.

Like Battlefield and Call of Duty, Ghost Recon Future Soldier will be launching a stat tracking network titled Ghost Recon Network. At this time in writing, this feature still is not available to beta testers as promised. Overall, if you are a Ghost Recon fan, a third-person shooter fan or a multiplayer gamer, try to snag yourself a code and see for yourself. If you can see beyond all of the issues with the beta and you play with friends, you’ll notice you may enjoy your experience like myself. Let’s hope that Ubisoft can collect valuable data to get this multiplayer to the point it needs to be come launch day in late May.

If you’ve had the chance to try out the beta, make sure to let us know what you think in the comments below.

What Crysis 2 Multiplayer Did Right and What Crysis 3 Can Improve Upon

In celebration of Crytek’s recent Crysis 3 announcement, we’re going to take a look back at the multiplayer of Crysis 2 and determine what needs to carry over and what needs to go. Of course, we here at MP1st care about multiplayer and we want to make sure Crytek blows us away with some top-notch Crysis 3 multiplayer. But, of course, we can’t do it without you guys. After checking out some of our thoughts below, make sure to leave yours in the comment section and have your voice be heard!

What Crysis 2 Did Right:

Let’s get started with the most obvious: Visuals. Though only running at mediocre 30 frames per second, the CryEngine 3 provides some of the best visuals of this generation in both single and multiplayer. It seems that no compromises were made in the multiplayer which contributed to a polished experience, provided that you weren’t plagued by the ever-annoying “grain glitch” (more on that later). Nevertheless, I’m fairly confident that Crysis 3 will show even further improvement in this area.

If there’s one thing that I believe Crytek did admirably better than other multiplayer shooters competing with Crysis 2 at the time, it was the map design. Maps were laid out in such a manner that it rewarded those who were constantly moving and always quick on their feet. Little room for campers, there was in Crysis 2. Many maps also featured multiple levels of elevated areas which really kept players on their toes. The biggest plus of Crysis 2’s map philosophy is that matches flowed, which leads to my next point.

The player movement in Crysis 2 was a whole ‘nother beast compared to other shooters at the time. Players could sprint, power jump, power slide, and seamlessly climb and mount obstacles, making for action-packed gameplay. I particularly enjoyed the moments of having to chase other players through obstacles Jason Bourne style. Also, having to actually run over to the enemy you just killed to pick up their dog tags in order to have it count towards your killstreak was just brilliant. This really helped to alleviate the “camping” aspect plaguing so many other shooters these days. In all, the nanosuit-enhanced Parkour elements of Crysis 2 definitely need to carry over to Crysis 3. Of course, a few other additional tricks wouldn’t hurt either.

One of the biggest aspects of Crysis 2’s multiplayer that differentiated itself from other shooters was the number of suit powere available at each players’ finger tips. Managing your energy meter was a whole different game in itself. The inclusion of tactical cloak and armor allowed players to tackle each situation differently. It also opened doors to find opportunities to outsmart your enemy. You may not have been the best shot, but maybe your quick decision making skills scored you some kills in gunfights. The ability to kick cars into enemies and rip off mounted heavy machine guns also added variety to the gameplay. I think it’d be pretty cool to see more objects to be able to kick or throw at other players in Crysis 3.

What Crysis 3 Can Improve Upon:

I’m no expert with network connection terms, but I can tell you that Crysis 2 definitely had room for improvement in this area. Ping was never consistent, enemies would soak bullets like a sponge while others weren’t properly notified that they are even being shot at by another. Most frustrating of all were the so-called “magic” bullets that somehow managed to find their way into your skull even after taking cover. Crysis 3 needs a system in place that keeps things fair and lets players focus on the gameplay, rather than having to keep track of enemies teleport from one side of the map to another.

Other than the unique suit powers, not a whole lot else differentiated Crysis 2 from the rest of the pack. We’ve seen weapon attachments before, we’ve seen “perks” before and we’ve seen “kill/point streaks” before. Now, I’m not saying Crytek should get rid of these, that can stay up for debate in the comment section below, but they do need to take advantage of Crysis’ unique identity. Amazing graphics will drop jaws, but stale, familiar, gameplay will send players packin’. Let’s get creative with the game modes. Perhaps the Ceph aliens could somehow be incorporated into the multiplayer. Crytek did mention that players will be able to get their hands on some alien tech in Crysis 3. The new sci-fi bow weapon certainly looks interesting as well. Game modes incorporating this bow would be very interesting to see, for example. Hopefully Crytek can breath some fresh air into this title and avoid producing another Call of Duty knock-off.

Weapon variety is a bit of a double-edged sword. Sure, more weapons means more choices and more chances to compliment or tweak one’s play style, but it also means more balancing issues. However, the weapon selection in Crysis 2 was very limited and got stale quickly. Not only did some classes of weapons only include no more than two weapons, one usually became the go-to weapon that many players would adopt. The rest were somewhat forgetful. Again, the addition of alien weapons and this new super-bow should greatly add some variety. Of course, different arrow types could easily add to the gameplay. More equipment choices would also be a welcome addition.

A big area where Crytek could really step up their game is in post-launch support. It’s not that Crysis 2 wasn’t supported at all, it just wasn’t supported properly, shall we say. Many annoying and sometimes game breaking issues weren’t dealt with properly or in a timely matter. To this day, some players still suffer from the infamous “grain glitch,” loud menu music, and wonky unlocks or achievements in Crysis 2’s multiplayer. Sure, DLC is great, but not when it segregates the community into different playlists, making it very hard to find games on the maps we paid for. I’m sure that many players would gladly allow others to download the already released DLC packs for free if it meant that those who did paid for it got a chance to have some decent games on these new maps. By the looks of it, Crytek/EA is going in guns-a-blazing in terms of pre-order incentives for Crysis 3, but make sure to support those who support your game post-launch as well. We want Crysis 3 to be a memorable experience that lasts.

Either way, we can’t to see what Crytek has up their sleeve for us multiplayer junkies. Hopefully they can provide players with an experience as polished as their highly praised single-player campaign, which also looks to be very promising for Crysis 3. If you haven’t yet, make sure to check out the recent teaser trailer to see some of it in action!

So, now that you’ve heard our thoughts, what do you think Crytek could do to ensure a kick-ass multiplayer experience in Crysis 3?
