Detailed list of MW3 Deathstreaks – Stopping Power and Final Stand Come Back

Thought stopping power, final stand, and martyrdom were gone? Not quite. They do return in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but in the form of deathstreaks. Deathstreaks, especially ones like ‘painkiller’, were a controversial topic in Modern Warfare 2.

Robert Bowling mentioned that with the next installment in CoD series, Infinity Ward paid particular attention to listening to fan feedback. Bowling specifically said that stopping power and final stand were indeed left behind as perks, something fans really wanted to see disappear. But perhaps, Infinity Ward couldn’t quite let go of them completely. Below is a list of the deathstreaks included in Modern Warfare 3.

MW3 Deathstreaks:

Juiced: 4 deaths – move faster for a few seconds after spawning.

Revenge: 5 deaths – see position of last enemy that killed you on your mini-map.

Final Stand: 4 deaths – unlocks at lvl 32, most likely similar to last stand but with a primary weapon.

Martyrdom: 4 deaths – unlocks at lvl 51, drop a live grenade after dying.

Dead Man’s Hand: 6 deaths – unlocks at lvl 57, fall into last stand after dying with C4 equipped in your hand.

Hollow Points: 5 deaths – unlocks at lvl 71, bullets cause more damage for one kill (stopping power).

If you are an avid multiplayer gamer who reads MP1st, hopefully, you won’t ever need these MW3 Deathstreaks!

In case you haven’t heard, check the complete list of Primary Guns.

Make sure you read the rest of our Modern Warfare 3 coverage.

MW3 ‘Killstreaks’ now called ‘Strike Packages’

Infinity Ward is now changing the name of the “Killstreaks” found in many of the recent Call of Duty games. In Modern Warfare 3, they will be called “Strike Packages”. Another change is that not only are they kill-based, but also point-based. Each Strike Package will offer something different and will tend to a wide variety of different play styles. So far, there are three different types available: assault, support, and specialist.

Assault – The assault strike package will be similiar to the familiar killstreak system that most CoD fans have come to love. Players will be able to call in air strikes like the assault drone or the osprey gunner.

Support – The support strike package is here to help your team win. The interesting thing about this particular package is that it does not reset after the player dies. Players running the support strike package will be able to utilize the SAM Turrent, RC recon drone, and the recon juggernaught.

Specialist – The specialist strike package is very unique in that it does not involve killstreak support at all. Instead, it allows the player to equip 3 extra perks, on top of the original 3 perk slots given to all players. After the 8th kill, every perk is available to the player at one time, making them the ultimate lone wolf player. These killstreaks, or perkstreaks, reset after each death. Of course, the player running the specialist strike package will not be able to call in any air support whatsoever.

Throwing Knives are Back in Modern Warfare 3

It’s been confirmed that Throwing Knives are coming back to Modern Warfare 3.

We still don’t know if they are going to be selectable under lethal ‘projectiles’ as they were in Black Ops, or an ‘equipment’ slot like in Modern Warfare 2.

Are you excited to see throwing knives back? Or, have you been killed one too many times by random tomahawks?

“Battlefield 3 is One of the Best Looking Games Ever” – Nvidia CM

Kris Rey, Nvidia’s Community Manager, has nothing but high praise for the graphics of Battlefield 3.

Recently, Kris Rey interviewed DICE’s Patrick Liu at PAX. Kris started off the interview with a very bold statement when he said “Battlefield 3 looks amazing. It’s one of the best looking games ever.” Liu, in response, shed some light on what makes Battlefield 3 the visual spectacle it is. Liu said “We’ve developed Frostbite 2 now since Frostbite 1. We added a ton of stuff. We basically rewrote a lot of the rendering from scratch. We added different rendering. Real time radiosity on the PC, it produces amazing in-door lighting. [For] the scale of the maps, we implemented new streaming technology, so we make bigger maps than we have ever been able to before.” Rey said that one of the most impressive things about Battlefield 3 is the use of volumetric smoke and fog.

I can’t disagree with Kris, Battlefield 3 does look phenomenal on PC, but I wonder how the console versions will turn out. In terms of graphics, PS3 is getting Uncharted 3 the sequel to one of the most beautiful console games ever, in my opinion. On the flip slide, Gears of War 3 comes out in a couple of weeks for Xbox 360. Will battlefield 3 look better than those exclusives?

I guess we have to wait and see, but I think that gameplay comes first then graphics. Meaning that how a game controls is more important than how it looks.

You will get to experience the beauty of Battlefield 3 first hand on all platforms, some time this month.

If you’re as psyched for Battlefield 3 as we are, then you should check out our BF3 section.

Double XP Weekend and Nuketown 24/7 Return

Josh Olin, aka JD_2020, announced a double XP weekend and Nuketown 24/7 in celebration of Labor day.

While 6000 CoD fans are attending Call of Duty XP this weekend, which we are covering, the other 24 million Black Ops players will enjoy Double XP from Friday 10 am PDT until Tuesday same time. Josh didn’t specify which consoles are getting this, but it is safe to assume that it will be on all consoles.

Just a tip for those of you who want to play Nuketown 24/7 and do well, I normally run Flak Jacket, Sleight of Hand Pro, Tactical Mask Pro with an AK47 or Famas (Attachment: Dual mags).

Update: Josh has just confirmed this double XP event is going to be on all platforms.

In Modern Warfare 3, you can unlock Double XP weekends, so you won’t have to wait for them.

Unfortunately, I’m at prestige 15 maxed out and will be covering CoD XP over the weekend, so I won’t be able to play much.

BF3 Swag will be Present at CoD XP and an Awesome BF3 Headset

The 10th ranked Call of Duty Black Ops player is going to CoD XP with Battlefield 3 swag.

How about those Astros A40s above? Pretty awesome!

Activision: BF3 is a Challenger Brand and EA Will Not Steal Our Market Share

There seems no end to this war of words between Activision and EA executives.

To catch you up to speed, here’s a chronological list of what happened so far:

June 16th: Speaking to industry gamers, EA CEO, John Riccitiello, Said that he wanted the Call of Duty franchise to “Rot from The Core”

August 17th: Activisoin Publishing CEO, Eric Hirshberg, Addressed that comment.

August 18th: EA hit back at Activtion stating that the Call of Duty series will die in 2-3 years because EA will be stealing 20%-30% market share a year.

August 19th: one the launched day of our site, we applauded Modern Warfare 3’s Robert Bowling comment after playing Battlefield 3.

Now, another chapter to this endless war. In an interview with GI.biz, Eric Hirshberg claims that “It’s not a new strategy for challenger brands to try to get themselves mentioned in the same breath as leader brands. Coke didn’t do the Coke challenge, Pepsi did the Pepsi challenge. It’s a tried and true strategy to try and get yourself mentioned as much as possible in the same breath as the leaders so people start thinking of you in that context.”

His Pepsi-Coke analogy makes sense to some extent, but Battlefield 1 came out in 2002 as opposed to the original Call of Duty, which came out in 2003. However, I think Eric is refering to Battlefield as a challenger in the world of consoles compared to Call of Duty dominance in that market.

He went on to touch on the EA’s claim to steal Activision’s market share by saying “Well not from us.” He explained further “What about creating market share? I feel like [EA’s comments] comes from a place that assumes that there’s a finite number of gamers in the world. If we as an industry act like there’s a finite number of gamers in the world, and just beat each other up to get access to them, I think that will come true. On the other hand, if we act like we can constantly pull people into this passion, which is what has happened – the industry has grown exponentially – then I think that we can bake a bigger pie instead of fighting over a bigger slice of the existing one.”

MP1st’s message to these two publishing giants, why don’t you put together your finest multiplayer teams and play 4 rounds (defenders and attackers) of Rush on Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Demolition on Call of Duty Black Ops. If the score is still level, end the tournament with a match of Inferno on Counter Strike Source, a middle ground if you will. All joking aside, we hope both EA and Activision hit their projected sales’ targets, market share and whatnot, but most importantly make sure that their games are well supported in terms of patches post release.

On a lighter note, Activision makes its new employees play Call of Duty MP.

Top 5 Multiplayer Releases of the Week

Welcome to MP1st’s Multiplayer Releases of the Week. Here, we will look at weekly releases of upcoming games of all platforms, including Xbox Live, the Playstation Network and iOS devices. While many great games are released each week, we will primarily be focusing on titles that include or feature multiplayer. This can range from online to local play, or competitive to co-op multiplayer. This week, we have five new releases that we think our readers should be aware of.

Begin!

1) Madden 2012, Price: Depending on platform. Developer: EA Sports, Publisher: EA Sports

As it is with every incarnation, the developers claim its the best version. Madden 12 packs in a new player momentum system, ability to build and edit your own playbooks, and uniform degradation system, For us multiplayer fans, the online communities feature looks quite appealing. For those casual Madden fans, you might want to pass on this year’s title because the improvements are not too substantial. The game is on store shelves right now and available on every platform on the market. There is a “Hall of Fame” version for PS3 and 360, and you can learn more about this $89.99 version by clicking here.

2) Body Count, Price: $60, Developer: Codemasters Studios Guildford, Publisher: Codemasters

When it comes to shooters, our loyal readers know how we take them seriously. However, Body Count is not looking like a solid entry to an already crowded genre.  The multiplayer has Team Deathmatch and Deathmatch modes which is a standard affair in all shooters. There is a wave based 2 player co-op mode that looks promising. There is a demo on PSN and Live, but it’s singleplayer only. Click here to watch developer diary about the game modes. So, if you end up buying it, please come back and give us your impressions, we’d love to hear from you. On the flip side, this game brought us an awesome Freddie Wong video, which you can view it here. Body count released today on Xbox 360 and PS3.

3) Mortal Kombat: Arcade Collection, Price: $9.99, Developer: Other Ocean Interactive, Publisher: Warner Bros. Interactive

This “kollection” of Mortal Kombat titles includes all the great classics like Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.  To sweeten the deal even further, Other Ocean Interactive is including online play, leaderboards, achievements and trophies to keep you upper-cutting for days! Mortal Kombat: Arcade Kollection will be available today, August 30th, on the PSN, XBL and PC.

4) Air Conflicts: Secret Wars, Price: TBA, Developer: Games Farm, Publisher: Kalypso Media

This arcade flight simulator will take players through different scenarios of WW1 and WW2 where they can choose from an assortment of aircrafts, each with it’s own strengths and weaknesses. Missions will range from patrolling, sneaking, hit & run, bombing and escorting. This game will feature several multiplayer modes for up to eight people locally, or four people online. Air Conflicts: Secret Wars will be available today, August 30th, on the XBox and PS3, and September 8th on the PC.

5) Death Spank: The Beconing, Price: $15, Developer: HotHead Games, Publisher: XX

The Beconing is an action rgp with over 100 quests and is the 3rd entry in the series. In terms of multiplayer, the game offers couch co-op. It’s worth noting that this is the first Death Spank to release after Ron Gilbert left HotHead. PC players can get a %20 discount on Steam at the moment. The game is available today for PSN, Xbox Live, and PC.

Which ones are you buying? Are you excited to play Madden 12? Please share with us and let’s have this MP chat every week!

7 Awesome Betas You Should Sign Up For

There are two kinds of Betas. One that is primarily used as a promotional tool for a game’s hype building machine; the other is launched so that developers can test their games and servers with a bigger audience and ask for feedback to fine tune and tweak the final version. Today, we’ve compiled a list of 7 betas that we think you should look into regardless of the kind. You’ll find the official date of each along side the sign up info. We will update this article as developers pin down more specific dates. Click on the title of each game to go to the sign up page/instructions.

1) Battlefield 3, open beta some time in September, available on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

(Medal of Honor and Origin preorders get a 48 hour jump on the rest.)

Let’s get this behemoth out of our way. Maybe not everyone, especially some particular shooter’s fans, is intrigued enough by the trailers and released gameplay of Battlefield 3. If you find yourself in this boat, then why don’t you try out Battlefield 3 first-hand come September. 360 gamers, you’ve been waiting for BF3 360 footage for a while now, so you can play Battlefield 3 for youself this September as well. I can’t honestly give this game its due, so if you’ve been living under the rock, click here to watch the latest trialer. (Warning: the game is way too awesome for the naked eye, sunglasses may be required.)

See DICE’s official statement regarding the beta start date (putting rumors to bed).

If you want to learn more about Battlefield 3, be sure to check our Battlefield 3 page for the latest news.

2) Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, beta in October for PC and Mac, available on PC, Mac, Xbox Live and PSN.

Many fans of the hardcore FPS scene are really excited about this one. Counter-Strike is a true classic and Global Offensive intends to breath new life into the 12 year old masterpiece. Many of the maps that we loved will be returning but with a next-gen face-lift. Same goes for many returning weapons that are being re-balanced. Blizzard is sure to set the dungeon-crawling, hack-and-slash, RPG standard extremely high with this third entry in the legendary Diablo series. Blizzard is introducing many new features to the franchise, including an online auction house. Here, players can bid for loot and items using in-game, or real-word currency. Release date has yet to be announced but we can trust Blizzard to take their time with this one and do it right.

5) Gotham City Imposters, closed beta is limited to residents of the US and PC only for now, more info on the way.

Activision CS Makes New Employees Play CoD Multiplayer

Some interesting Activision business practice was revealed at PAX.

Here on MP1st, we value and enjoy multiplayer a lot, heck we built a site dedicated for it. But, we don’t screen our own writers through multiplayer gaming. However, may be we should. On a Customer Support panel at PAX, Dan Amrich, Activision’s Social Media Manager, revealed “Activision Customer Support Makes new hires play COD MP as part of their screening, not for prowess but for personality and competitive profile.”

I think the competitive part makes sense. The way you go about your multiplayer gaming can somewhat gauge your competitive nature. However, I can’t really get behind the first part. If Call of Duty multiplayer can show a person’s personality, then a hardcore camper who sits in a corner watching one door the whole game would be a coward. On the flip side, a rusher who’s running around to find advantage points would be considered a workhorse.

Would you use multiplayer in, for example Battlefield or Call of Duty, to screen people?

Do want to write for MP1st with no multiplayer screening? Head over to the write for MP1st page for more details.
