CS:GO Beta “Will Keep Growing”, Fake Scam Sites Arise, Servers Mixed Up Weekly

The Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Beta is currently underway and being enjoyed by a number of active community members. If you’ve missed out on the details, find out how to get your key here. As for additional details, the team behind CS:GO recently answered some questions from the community which gives some insight as to what the team is working on.

First, a word of warning: csgobeta.com does not hand out beta keys. According to the CS:GO team, “that is a fake scam site.”

With that out of the way, many fans have been urging the developers to release the beta to the general public. (At the moment, only top community members can earn access to the beta, with more opportunities on the way.) The official CS:GO Twitter handle explains the reasoning behind keeping a tight lid on the beta: “We need to grow the beta in stages. The beta really is about testing, not promotion. But don’t worry, it will keep growing.”

Fans have also been asking devs to let the servers rotate through the maps so that players aren’t stuck in one particular location. It was clarified that the they “will be mixing up the beta every week,” which should hopefully ease some worries.

Of course, many are wondering if the beta will ever make its way to the PS3 or Xbox 360, platforms which will currently only see the retail version of CS:GO. The team clarified, “the beta is for PC only.” As for the Mac version, they clarified that a “Mac version is coming [as well] but for the beta, we need to be more nimble to react. Isolating the beta to one platform lets us do that.”

Hopefully that should answer a few of the questions that many CS fans have been dying to know. For more details about the beta and about the game itself, stay tuned to MP1st by following us on Twitter and Facebook!

Starhawk – Welcome to the Beta, New Map Coming in Patch 1.3, and More

LightBox Interactive is readying up Starhawk for a full open beta later today, some new information regarding patch 1.3, a new vehicle, and much more.

Later today, everyone with access to the PSN will be able to download the official Starhawk beta off the PlayStation Store. Previously, the beta was only open to those who had a PSN voucher code from either winning it or receiving the code from Uncharted 3. You’ll also be able to discuss current bugs and issues with the beta at the official Starhawk Beta Forums. And, please remember that this is a BETA, it does not represent the final product of the game.

Beta Patch 1.3’s release date is still unknown, but LightBox Entertainment recently stated that the patch will go live “when we are happy with it”. In this update you can expect plenty of bug fixes that are currently being reported on the forums along with a brand new multiplayer map called The Planet Dust. This brand new map will feature massive 32 players fight.

Down below are some screen shots of the new map.

Video preview showcasing the new map and vehicle.

[youtube id=”0QQDZIvW9Ds” width=”600″ height=”350″]

Also, on Starhawk’s facebook page,  LightBox clarifed, “for those of you the got Twisted Metal…the Starhawk Sweet Tooth skin will not work in the Starhawk Beta. Its only for the full retail game.” So, expect the code to go live sometimes in May when Starhawk launches.

Since the Beta will now be open to everybody, expect to hear more news in the coming weeks including patch notes, impressions, and even new videos. Till then, I’ll see you all online.

[Updated] Battlefield 3 Developer Reveals Further Patch Details and Updates

You may have seen a recent list of upcoming weapon changes making its way to Battlefield 3 floating around. If not, check it out right here. However, there are still some other patch details you may not yet know. Luckily, we’ve gathered a number of fresh pieces of info straight from Senior Gameplay Designer, Alan Kertz, as well as some updates to the already existing tweaks.

It was brought up via a reddit conversation that the jet guns vs helicopters should be nerfed. Added to this statement was the concern of a jet’s ability to simply ram into the helicopter if it happens to be unsuccessful with its cannon. Thankfully, Kertz responded that “both issues are addressed.” In response, one fan mentioned that both aircrafts being destroyed in the crash would be great. Kertz answered, “bingo.”

Speaking of the usefulness of the underbarrel grenade launcher attachment, some agreed that there’s currently not enough of a time difference in switching to the launcher between a weapon that has the underbarrel attached, and one that doesn’t. However, Kertz clarified, “not after this update it’s not.” Meaning, the switch to the underbarrel grenade launcher will likely see an increase in speed in the next update.

When it comes to weapon stat updates, Kertz mentioned that he “found a way to keep 95 damage on the M98B without making it OP.” (These numbers are soon to be updated in the tweak list.) One fan asked, “what makes a bolt gun with 5 round mag cap so OP you have to nerf it?” Kertz answered, “new mechanics. But it wasn’t ever a nerf and now it won’t look that way either.”

Few have been worried about the SCAR-H carbine, which is to receive an accuracy buff in the next update. Before some of the latest patches, this weapon was considered to be rather over-powered and it is hoped that it will not end up being the case again. It was asked if the SCAR-H would keep its current max damage which is at 30. Kertz clarified, “it stays at 30. When it was at 34 it was clearly superior to other carbines. It’s more accurate, has longer range, and with the recoil buff it’s more controllable.”

This is just a few updates of many more to come. Make sure to stay tuned to MP1st by following us on Twitter and Facebook as we find out more about the upcoming patch.

Let us know your thoughts and concerns about the recent tweaks in the comments below!

Update: Players may have also noticed that the FAMAS will be receiving a number of buffs, something contrary to what many have been hoping for. However, Kertz clarified that though it may look like it’s being buffed, it will translate differently in-game. “The supposed FAMAS ‘buff’ is anything but. The FAMAS will pull to the side when shooting, a behavior much more difficult to control.” What are your thoughts? Leave them in the comments below!

BioWare Executive Producer Talks Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer and Post-Lauch Support

BioWare Executive Producer, Casey Hudson has high hopes for Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer co-op mode, Galaxy at War, and hints at future DLC to support it post-launch.

In an interview with CVG, Hudson revealed some of the plans that BioWare has for Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer after launch. “We are going to be supporting Mass Effect 3 for quite some time, because I think people are going to have a lot of fun with multiplayer…” We can atteste to the amount of fun had in the recent multiplayer demo that was released on the 14th, which you can read all about right here. Hudson continued, “…and we’ll be supporting that with new content as we go forward,” again, most likely referring to DLC.

It seems safe to say that BioWare pulled off adding multiplayer to the Mass Effect franchise and pleasantly surprised many fans with the results. Personally, I’d love to see further iterations of Mass Effect multiplayer and would be more than happy to see it carry on past Mast Effect 3.

Battlefield 3 – Top 7 Ways to Take Out a Jet

In today’s list, we take a look at some of the most creative, hilarious, luckiest and spectacular ways to take out a jet in Battlefield 3. Let’s start right away with number 7.

7. EPIC Harrier Dodge!

He may not have taken this jet out by his own hands, but he did show the pilot who’s boss. This video earns the number 7 spot.

[youtube id=”cEdyVj01Z0E” width=”600″ height=”350″]

6. How NOT To Jet

Shosho10199 has been providing the Battlefield 3 community with many good laughs thanks to some of his recent videos. This one proves to be no less hilarious and earns the 6th spot in this list.

[youtube id=”xMBCKp6dMa4″ width=”600″ height=”350″]

5. How to take out a Jet with Style

The title says it all. This decent shot wins 5th place in this list.

[youtube id=”fOC7plONHP8″ width=”600″ height=”350″]

4. One In a Million Javelin Shot

Though this video has been previously featured on MP1st, it definitely deserves the number 4 spot in this list. He’s just so damned lucky!

[youtube id=”W8ozgdarF3M” width=”600″ height=”350″]

3. Best C4 Jetkill Ever!

Thanks to a mix of creativity, good planning, and spot-on editing, this video earns its place at number 3.

[youtube id=”aI9yfYHv2_I” width=”600″ height=”350″]

2. Sniping jet pilot out and taking his jet in midair w0lfeye1

Even in the safety of a roaring jet, it’s not always the best idea to take a deadly sniper head on. This video earns the number 2 spot.

[youtube id=”GQNzyYsgQbw” width=”600″ height=”350″]

1. Jet Swap

Think you’ve seen it all in Battlefield 3? You haven’t seen anything until you check out this unbelievable stunt. Not only is YouTuber Stungravy insane to even try this, but his shot is remarkable as well. From the very same man who brought us RendeZook, the winning video of DICE’s Only in Battlefield 3 contest, we present “Jet Swap”, taking the number 1 spot.

Can we seriously get this guy a medal?

Call of Duty Coming to PlayStation Vita in 2012

Along with the official reveal of PS Vita, which was known as NGP at the time, several games were announced for the device including Call of Duty. However, it was unclear as to when the PS Vita version of Call of Duty will come out.

In an interview with Game Trailers, Sony’s Senior Vice President of PlayStation brand marketing, Guy Longworth, confirmed that a Call of Duty game will be released for PS Vita this year. He stated, “In the Autumn, [my kids] are really looking forward to Call of Duty on Vita, and that’s going to be an absolute game changer for the platform.”

It is unknown at this point weather PS Vita will receive a brand new Call of Duty title, or a portable port of this year’s rumored Black Ops 2. Another possibility would be a remake of a previous Call of Duty.

If it’s going to be a remake, which game in the series would like to play on the go?

Personally, I’d like a World at War remake with a balanced MP40.

Thanks, RipTen

Twisted Metal Skin Customizer Now Live

Although there isn’t any planned DLC for Twisted Metal, Eat,Sleep, Play and Sony have collaborated to design a skin tool that you may use to make your own personalized vehicle skins. As of today, the tool is now available to be used. Down below you’ll be able to see the tool in action.

When creating a skin, the skin will display in low polygon. This is so the website isn’t slow. When you download them from in-game they are highly detailed and look much better that their website counter part.

To get started visit www.twistedmetal.com

Once you have successfully logged into PSN then you can begin customizing your own personal vehicle skin. You can select any of the vehicles available in Twisted Metal, and either start editing from the site itself or downloading it and bringing it into such tools as Photoshop, MS Paint, and ect.

After you have selected a vehicle, it will bring you to the next screen, where you can then edit it’s color, add textures, or upload you’re own base.

After that, you’ll be able to move onto step two, which will contain all your graphics such as shapes and decals. These can be freely added to your vehicle and just as the base color, you can also upload your own to use.

Example of me scaling a decal on my template.

Once done with that move onto step 3 to build your vehicle and then publish it.

There is one very important step that you must take in order to use the skin online. Although it says it’s been published, you’ll need to actually activate the skin, which you can do from the drop down menu on the website. Select Customizer and then Manage. This will display all your current skins that you have downloaded or created. You will see an Activation button. After this your vehicle will finally be able to be used in game.

To find in game, go to Multiplayer, Profile, Paint Job and then select Refresh downloadable Skins, and you’ll then start downloading the skins. Then you are all set.

There are already some available skins that other users have created. You can get these by selecting the Browse option from the Customizer drop down menu

There is a grief report system so be careful of your vehicle design as they can be deemed to offensive and then be removed, according to Jaffe.

[Update #2] List of Tentative Weapon Tweaks in the Next Battlefield 3 Patch

Update #2: (Feb 20th) More on G18 damage drop-off as well as slug and .44 upper chest damage multiplier.

Update #1: (Feb 19th) More findings have been published on Shotgun and PDW damage changes.

While updating the list with new findings on shotgun and PDW damage tweaks, which you can find below, we lost the original article due to an infinite redirect loop problem. This caused the site to go down for a few hours, but we were able to bring back the site (if you’re reading this) and the updated list on a new page. Unfortunately, 75 valuable comments were lost in the process, but we’re working on bringing them back. If case we’re not able to recover the comments, as early signs don’t look promising, we do apologize for that and the outage.

Original Story: (Feb 18th) Recently, Daniel Matros revealed that Battlefield 3 might not be getting the ‘big patch’ in February. However, the guys over at DICE have been hard at work fine tuning Battlefield 3 over the past few months. Core Gameplay Designer, Alan Kertz, has released some primarily data on weapon balance changes that ‘may or may not’ make it in the next patch.

2. Attachments

Fore grip

  • Basically before it reduced the horizontal recoil by 50%, in these files it reduces h-recoil only ~20-33% depending on weapon.
  • It also increases the minimum spread 20% ~ 50% depending on stance and weapon.

Suppressor

  • Suppressors will not reduce the damage anymore.
  • Now it will reduce the distance where damage starts/stops to drop off instead.
  • For most weapons it will decrease the min spread by 25% instead of 50%
  • Although looks like M60 will still have the same 50% effect.

Heavy barrel

  • For most of the weapons it decreases ADS min spread by 75 or 50% depending on weapon.
  • Recoil is still increased by 10 or 15% and HIP min spread by 20-25% depending on weapon.
  • It doesn’t make AN94 100% accurate anymore while aiming down the sight.
  • Reduces ADS min spread by 75% and only increases recoil by 10%, the hip fire penalty is 20% for AN94
  • G3A1 is same than AN94 except heavy barrel increases recoil 6.7% and hip fire is increased only 14.3%
  • For few weapons it also makes Spread increase per shot 10% higher.
  • It will also increase drop-off end distance by 50% making weapons more deadly at ranges between 50m and 90m, depending on weapon.

Flash suppressor

  • Will decrease recoil by 17 ~ 25% depending on weapon.
  • For most weapons it increases hip min spread by 20~25% but some weapons don’t have any hip accuracy penalty.

Extended magazine

  • There seems to be extended magazine for AS VAL which didn’t exist before.
  • With ext mag it will have 30 bullets in a mag instead of 20

Call of Duty Developer Seeks Balance Between “Quickscopers” and “Hardscopers”

David Vonderhaar, Gameplay Designer at Treyarch, sits down with Call of Duty fans in an attempt to find peace in the war between “quickscopers” and “hardscopers”.

First, a quick definition of terms: A “quickscoper” can be considered someone who fires a high-powered rifle (usually a bolt-action sniper rifle in this case) immediately after acquiring a target using the game’s built-in crosshairs, taking little to almost no time to aim down the the sights of the rifle scope; a risky but efficient maneuver. “Hardscopers” seek targets in the more traditional sense of scanning the battlefield while aimed down the sights of a rifle scope and firing from this scoped state, usually from an advantageous position.

Along with the rise of quickscoping — a technique that caught some attention possibly during the CoD 2 era, but gained commercial popularity during Modern Warfare 2 — came the controversial debate of whether it can be considered a legitimate technique, or does it exploit the mechanics of a first-person shooter, giving an unfair advantage to the user? Call of Duty developers, Treyarch, made conscious effort to keep 2010’s Black Ops free of such “exploitations”, while Infinity Ward’s recent Modern Warfare 3 embraced it with open arms. While we are not here to provide answers to the almost unanswerable question of whether or not it actually is a legitimate technique, it could make for fierce discussion in the comment section below!

What we are here to ask, however, is whether or not quickscopers and hardscopers can meet on common ground. This is exactly what what Treyarch Developer, David Vonderhaar, hopes to accomplish and implement in Treyarch’s next Call of Duty title which evidence strongly suggests will, indeed, be titled Black Ops 2.

In a conversation with Call of Duty fans, Vonderhaar stated, “I’d like to sit down with the worlds best drag & quickscopers and those who despise it and find something directly in the middle.” He continued, “ADS [Aim Down Sight] sway as well as the ADS and hipfire aim assist (ranges) are tunable on a per gun level. Let’s do this.” To get down to specifics, he then proposed, “.4 ADS raise time. No ‘random bullet.’ Limited hip fire aim assist (MW1 was 1000 inches of hip fire aim assist). Thoughts?” He then clarified that “0.4 is the average on a MW1 style sniper.”

Some fans have expressed concern over receiving only a hit marker when achieving a clear shot to the chest in Black Ops. Vonderhaar explained that this is common “when you are used to ‘chest’ being all the same thing.” However, he admits, “we wanted it to be a precision shot. Upper torso or head but it was probably too confusing in the end.” It “also had to do with penetration settings,” he added. “You can’t hit a guy in the chest without hitting his arms and hands and sometimes gun first,” which may have added to players’ frustrations.

Vonderhaar was also asked if the possibility of removing aim assist was optional, something that many quickscope nay-sayers would argue is the source of their frustration. He replied, “Yes. It’s now possible to remove aim (hip and ads) from a gun. He also admitted, “the gun not shooting straight till 100% scoped in caused a lot of confusion and frustration for snipers.”

To close, Vonderhaar stated these words: “Balance. That place in the middle where everyone is equally pissed off. Thanks for sharing your passion with me. Reading every reply.”

It will be interesting to see what comes out of this conversation and how it will affect 2012’s Call of Duty. Can both sides raise rifle muzzles in unanimity? Please, share your thoughts in the comment section below!

Fix for Twisted Metal Matchmaking Issues to be “Deployed in a Few Hours”

PS3 exclusive, Twisted Metal, has had its fair share of problems with matchmaking since release. However, David Jaffe has just announced that a fix is on the way.

Jaffe stated on his Twitter account:

“It looks like they’ve solved all (or at least a very big portion) of the matchmaking issues with Twisted Metal. I’ll explain best I can in my layman’s terms: quick online and select a match are pulling from the same pool. So if you are browsing, by the time you pick a game none of those players are available anymore. You only get in a game really if you get into quick match. At least I was told this (although I know some players have struggled to get into a fast match as well). Either way, progress! They say they expect to have a fix deployed in a few hours. I will keep you informed. Also, looking into the crash issue- will do my best to get some feedback on that sometime today. Thanks all!”

Be sure to check out a demonstration of the skin creator, which will “release very very soon”.

Call of Duty 9 to be Called Black Ops 2?

Last month, Activision got a hold of the domain name, blackops2.com, fueling sepculation that this year’s Call of Duty will be a direct sequel to Treyarch’s Black Ops. Since then, Activision did announce that there will be a new Call of Duty in 2012, promising that it will be bring “meaningful innovation” to the franchise.

Yesterday, french gaming site, gameblog, spotted a product listing on Amazon France titled ‘Black Ops 2’. Subsequently, the retailer pulled the product page; however, Gameblog was able to check the Google cache of the page to confirm the name of the next Call of Duty. This story was picked up by several french sites that were contacted by Activision France to take down their articles. While some sites complied, Gameblog stood its ground, which led Activision to blacklist the website, disinviting them from an upcoming Transformers event and cancelling  scheduled Activision ad campaigns on the site.

In terms of sales, Modern Warfare 3 had a stronger launch that Black Ops, but MW3 failed to match Treyarch’s title January NDP numbers (North America only). Activision Publishing CEO responded to the numbers, stating that Modern Warfare 3’s sales were front-loaded.

Do you want this year’s Call of Duty to be a direct sequel to Black Ops? Or, to be set in a completely different era?

Thanks, GameSpot

Next Battlefield 3 Patch to be “a Big One” But May Not Arrive In February

Though it was originally mentioned by a member of the DICE team that the next Battlefield 3 patch will land sometime in February, something we reported on a couple months back, Community Manager, Daniel Matros, recently clarified that this may not be the case

When asked if the “February patch” was still on track for a February release, Matros responded, “No. It was announced by someone who got the dates wrong,” and that “the date was never really correct anyway.” No official word yet as to when it may be released. Gameplay Designer Gustav Halling also added that DICE is “working in a big one, no ETA when it’s out, these things take time.”

As for some good news, it looks like we may soon be seeing a list of fixes for the upcoming patch, whenever it may arrive. Matros stated yesterday, “some parts of fix list gathered. Tomorrow hunting fixes for fixes in the fixlist. It’s a big fixlist.”

We’ve been able to gather some notes ourselves – the most recent being mortar and ribbon tweaks, as well as changes to the USAS-12 shotgun equipped with frag rounds. Halling also recently spoke about the Havok helicopter, stating, “I have tweaked the Havok for the next big patch already but you have to wait a little more.” Make sure to check out our dedicated Battlefield 3 section where you’re sure to find more useful info.

To keep informed about a patch release date and fixlists, make sure to stay tuned to MP1st! Why not follow us on Twitter and Facebook?

Twisted Metal Status Update; Server Maintenance, Stats, And Other Updates

David Jaffe gives an update on Twisted Metal Matchmaking, PS3 crashes, and other issues with the online multiplayer.

Many of you have been experiencing issues with the lobbies. David Jaffe suggest that you try the quickmatch option found in the main menu of the game as it supposably only has a 10% fail rate.

  • The server issue isn’t on Eat, Sleep,Play side, but on Sony side. Matchmaking is still being worked on around the clock according to Jaffe. The network error may not be a network error at all and in fact may be a text error and suppose to display game is full. Expect the servers to go down 15-20 minutes sometime in the morning so that Sony can add the new code to the servers.
  • Reports of PS3 crashing have been coming in and although the team can’t replicate the problem they are keeping it on their radar, but for now their top priority is the server fix.
  • Concerning the issue with stats updating. The stats are working properly, however they are not being updated right away. The stats don’t immediately transfer to the servers and may take some time as this is how the game is set to do. They will look into whether people are loosing their ranks, but they should have it as time passes. This issue is still being looked into.
  • Party system breaking apart being looked into. Expect an update to fix the friends invite issue, but not until the network error is fixed. This is because the team wants to know how many players are playing so that they can fix the balancing issues.
  • Once the servers have been fixed the team will redirect their attention to all other issues along with the current complaints about weapon, vehicles, and game mode balancing.

[Updated] DICE Suggests Fix For Battlefield 3 PS3 Input Lag

For those experiencing input lag on the PS3 version of Battlefield 3, Senior Gameplay Designer, Alan Kertz, might have a suggestion or two.

Kertz recently stated that “if you are experiencing PS3 input lag, please check that your TV is in game mode. We have just fixed a laggy PS3 by enabling game mode.” Furthermore, as an example, he explained that “for Samsung TVs Game Mode can be turned On in the General Settings.” He added “we reproduced the lag on a Samsung TV and then eliminated it by adjusting TV settings without changing the game. That’s a fix.” Also, “so far we’ve been able to fix the issue in testing via tv settings. Some TVs perform post processing that adds a delay.”

As another option, “if your TV does not have Game Mode, some users are suggesting PC mode works nicely for their TV,” mentioned Kertz. This seems to be the case for LG TVs specifically. “For LG TVs, press input then blue button, PC mode works better than game mode.”

One PS3 user stated, “I have a Sony, changed it from vivid to standard, job done no lag.”

Additionally, Kertz mentioned to another PS3 user, “I think the latest update added an option to disable vsync. Turning it off can improve responsiveness.” Upon contacting Kertz for further information, he clarified that this option “is under Video in the Options Menu on PS3.” Lastly, “you may also try disabling AA in the BF3 options menu, some users report that improves performance.”

Community Manager, Daniel Matros, spoke earlier of these troubles stating that DICE has been experimenting with the issue on their end but has been achieving mixed results. Read here to learn more.

PS3 users, have you noticed any difference following these steps? Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter and Facebook.

Update: Vsync and AA options are specific to the PC platform and will not aid PS3 users in solving input lag. We apologize for any confusion.

Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Demo Opens To Public a Day Early

It looks like Mass Effect 3 fans who’ve yet been able to access the multiplayer co-op demo, Galaxy at War, are in for a treat today.

So far, the multiplayer aspect of the ME3 demo, released on the 14th, has only been open to those who’ve been rewarded with a redeemable code through various contests or to those who have played Battlefield 3 online and have registered their online pass. While it was originally stated that it would open up to the public on the 17th, it seems BioWare has had a change of heart. Could this be the work of the lingering effects of Valentine’s day? Either way, it’s awesome!

On Twitter, BioWare stated moments ago, “we’re so excited for you to try out the ME3 multiplayer demo that we’ve opened it up to ALL players as of…RIGHT NOW! Tell your friends!”

We recently gave our impressions of the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer demo, which you can read right here, and we were pleasantly surprised by the fun, addicting and polished gameplay BioWare was able to muster up for the final entry into the Mass Effect trilogy. We highly recommend you get on your Xbox 360, PS3 or PC and download the demo right away!

For those who’ve already been enjoying the multiplayer demo, what are your impressions? Let us know in the comments below.
