After Snarky Initial Reaction, Mediatonic Apologizes for Fall Guys In-Game Store Auto-Buy Bug

Recently, Fall Guys had been affected by a bug, as claimed by players, where the in-game store is making purchases without any input. Fall Guys developer, Mediatonic had first disregarded the complaints made by players on Reddit and Twitter. However today, the studio apologized to the fans and offered full refunds to the people affected.

Here’s a copy of an email sent by Fall Guys support to one of the players initially, which didn’t go down exactly well with the community given the tone of the message (via Reddit):

“Please let me correct something from your response. You have stated that this is a ‘bugged purchase’ and a ‘known issue.’  Neither of these things is the case. The purchase was made by you, not a bug. Whether it was intentional or not, this is still the case. This is not a ‘known issue’ because it is not an issue. Items cannot be bought automatically by the system, they always require input from the player. Again, whether accidental or not, you made this input and purchased the item. As per our EULA, which you agreed to, all purchases are final and will not be refunded. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused, and hope that I have cleared this up for you.”

After this many other users shared a similar experience, which caused the studio to change its course on the issue. On Twitter, the studio revealed that they’re working on a new store design for Fall Guys to prevent this issue in the future and all refund requests since June 21 will be honored.

Fall Guys is free-to-play and available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Former EA CEO: Devs Who Don’t Focus on Microtransactions are ‘Idiots’

Former EA CEO, John Riccitiello, spoke out on microtransactions in the video gaming industry and attacked developers who don’t focus on implementing the monetization system early on in the creative process and called them ‘idiots.”

Riccitello made the statement to PocketGamer.Biz when he was asked about the pushback developers are facing when they focus on monetizing their games early on in games production. He spoke clearly about his dismay with developers who don’t prioritize microtransactions, but also called them  “the most beautiful and pure, brilliant people.”

“Ferrari and some of the other high-end car manufacturers still use clay and carving knives,” Riccitello said. “It’s a very small portion of the gaming industry that works that way, and some of these people are my favorite people in the world to fight with – they’re the most beautiful and pure, brilliant people. They’re also some of the biggest f****** idiots,”

“But this industry divides people between those who still hold to that philosophy and those who massively embrace how to figure out what makes a successful product. And I don’t know a successful artist anywhere that doesn’t care about what their player thinks. This is where this cycle of feedback comes back, and they can choose to ignore it. But to choose to not know it at all is not a great call.

“I’ve seen great games fail because they tuned their compulsion loop to two minutes when it should have been an hour. Sometimes, you wouldn’t even notice the product difference between a massive success and tremendous fail, but for this tuning and what it does to the attrition rate. There isn’t a developer on the planet that wouldn’t want that knowledge.” said Former EA CEO, Riccitello

Microtransactions continue to be a hot topic in the gaming industry. The practice of selling in-game items in an already fully priced game has always spiked conversations and debates among the industry’s professionals and consumers.

Many developers have since opted for a free-to-play model that is solely monetized by microtransactions like Fortnite, Warzone, and Halo Infinite. But some games really take advantage of that, like Diablo Immortal, where players would likely have to spend over $110,000 in order to max out their character

NPD Report: Elden Ring Is One of the Top 10 Best-Selling Games in US History

Elden Ring is now topping the new NPD sales charts. Unsurprisingly, the game has now been beating Call of Duty as the most-bought game of the past 12 months.

Mat Piscatella, NPD Executive Director, has shared on the latest reports on Twitter, and said that Elden Ring has repeatedly been the best-selling game of the month, and that the game is also still considered the best-selling game of 2022.

Elden Ring has also been placing first in terms of dollar sales in four of its first five months in the market. It is also now ranked among the top 10 best-selling games in dollar sales ever in the United States.

https://twitter.com/MatPiscatella/status/1547928028214267907

While Elden Ring is currently the best-selling game of 2022, the game still has five more months of fierce competition.

Two games, in particular, could potentially take the number one spot as the best-selling game of 2022. These games are God of War Ragnarok which is coming out on November 9, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 which is coming out on October 28.

If you still haven’t played Elden Ring, you might want to change that ASAP! Check out our review to see why it got an impressive 10/10 from us, and where our reviewer Sean Mesler said,”Miyazaki and FromSoftware have crafted something so massive, special, wondrous and triumphant that it’s unfathomable how they can top it. Easily FromSoftware’s best game to date and a genuine masterpiece.”

DICE Confirms Battlefield 2042 Map Changes for Season 1 Still Incoming; Unreleased Weapons for BF Portal in Update 1.1 Datamined

Back in May, DICE revealed some of the map changes coming to Battlefield 2042 as part of the Season 1 update. Given that we’re a few weeks in with Season 1 and still haven’t seen any Battlefield 2042 map changes for Season 1, some might be wondering whether this is still in the cards, or if DICE is pushing that to the next season.

For those wondering, we have an answer for that today, as DICE’s Community Manager Straatford87 has confirmed that the map update is still set to be released this Season 1!

Chances are, we’ll see this map update rolled out alongside the promised player profile stat page that’s also due for release sometime in Season 1. Speaking of which, DICE has also promised a big Battlefield Portal update would be hitting in Season 1, and it seems some of the content associated with that has leaked!

Over on Twitter, reliable Battlefield dataminer temporyal has unearthed some of the unreleased weapons in Battlefield Portal, which was spotted in Update 1.1!

Currently, DICE has the next patch set to drop sometime in August, though there’s no mention of what it will contain. Hopefully, outside of bug fixes, this also contains the player profile stat page, and the new BF Portal weapons and more.

Once we know more about the upcoming Battlefield 2042 patch, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

CJ Payne: Hiya everyone! We wanted to change the way you earn and upgrade armor with this update to Solstice. As part of that, we removed those pesky objectives from the armor and streamlined the upgrade process for all classes.

Here are some of our goals:
  • Focus on actively upgrading armor the entire event through new player actions.
  • Provide agency and choice with how you upgrade your armor.
  • Give players a chance to reasonably chase armor rolls for the duration of the event.
  • Tie together acquiring and upgrading armor with the theme of Solstice.
  • Lower the barrier to entry for players who haven’t engaged with armor stats.

If you’ve ever wanted to chase down specific armor rolls, Solstice is your time to shine! Want a 100 Resilience build? You got it. Need a new armor set for Nightfalls, Crucible, and Gambit? We’ve got you covered. And with a little luck, maybe you’ll get the god-roll you’ve been waiting for!

Upgrading your Solstice armor requires finding and spending new event currencies. Here’s what you should be looking for.

SOLSTICE ARMOR UPGRADING CURRENCIES

  • Silver Leaves
      • Earn Silver Leaves by completing activities throughout the game.
  • Silver Ash
      • Transform Silver Leaves into Silver Ash by completing the new activity: Bonfire Bash.
      • Spend Silver Ash to reroll armor stats from the armor mod screen.
  • Kindling
      • Earn Kindling by completing Solstice Event Challenges.
      • Spend Kindling to upgrade your armor stat roll potential, each piece of armor can be upgraded three times (three tiers).
      • You only need to do this once per armor slot. Every time you upgrade a piece of Solstice armor, it is permanent and shared across all pieces for that slot. So, if you upgrade a helmet all the way to Tier 3, every Solstice helmet currently in your inventory and any future helmets you earn for that class can now access Tier 3 stat rerolls.
So, let’s break this down:
  • Complete Event Challenges to earn Kindling.
  • Use Kindling to permanently upgrade your Solstice armor stat roll potential.
  • Complete a wide variety of activities throughout the game to earn Silver Leaves.
  • Complete the Solstice Activity, Bonfire Bash, to transform Silver Leaves into Silver Ash.
  • Use Silver Ash to reroll armor stats from the armor mod screen.
  • Keep earning and spending Silver Ash to reroll armor to get the stats you want.
  • Once you’ve fully rerolled stats on a piece of armor, pick up a new piece for the same slot to start rerolling stats again.
The new Solstice armor sets feature both free and paid glows like previous years. And just like last year, fully upgrading a piece of armor, with kindling, will cause it to glow.

Once your armor is all nice and shiny, you gain access to high-stat rolls focusing on a stat (or two) of your choice.

Alright, that’s everything you need to know about Solstice armor upgrading. Check out the event next week to discover everything Solstice has to offer and get ready to build your perfect armor set!

Once the patch is out, we’ll be sure to let our readers know about.

Report: God of War Ragnarok Will Feature Both Resolution and Performance Modes

Santa Monica Studio’s God of War Ragnarok will reportedly feature a full resolution mode and a performance mode for the PS5. The resolution mode will target full 4K resolution at 30 frames-per-second, while the performance mode will target upscaled 4K resolution at 60fps.

Both features were revealed in a God of War Ragnarok listing made by UK retailer, ShopTo, Here is the full list of in-game features according to them:

  • Feel your journey through the Norse realms, made possible by immersive haptic feedback and adaptive trigger functionality.
  • Take advantage of multidirectional 3D Audio; hear enemies approaching from any direction.
  • Bask in the beautiful worlds you travel through, brought to life by precise art direction and arresting attention to detail.
  • Switch between full 4K resolution at a targeted 30 frames per second, or dynamic resolution upscaled to 4K at a targeted 60fps.

As seen in the list, God of War Ragnarok will also take advantage of the PlayStation 5 controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers functionalities. This may be what mainly differentiates between the game’s PS4 and PS5 versions. Players may want to upgrade their consoles before embarking on the new journey.

God of War Ragnarok’s release date was announced in early July and is now officially coming on November 9, 2022, to both PS4 and PS5.

Eidos Scared Marvel With Early Guardians of the Galaxy Concepts; Fat Drax, Human-Sized Rocket, & More

With Eidos Montreal’s Guardians of the Galaxy game, the studio didn’t exactly copy the MCU’s (Marvel Cinematic Universe) depiction of the characters, though you can see some inspiration was taken here and there. But did you know that Eidos wanted to deviate so much from the character designs in the early stages that the studio scared Marvel?

This tidbit of news surfaced in the latest issue of EDGE magazine (issue #374), where Senior Narrative Director Mary DeMarle, Creative Director Jean-François Dugas, and Art Director Bruno Gauthier-Leblanc talked about the 2021 action game.

Though Marvel was largely supportive of the studio’s ideas, some early plans for the characters were rejected. “The way I like to work is to turn the dial up to 12 on the concepts,” Gauthier-Leblanc grins, “and then bring it back, instead of going one, two, three, four.” Groot, he says, was “scary”, but the artists realised that look didn’t fit the gentle-giant persona the writers had given him. “We had a fat Drax,” he adds. “Our first version of Star-Lord was like a cosmonaut, with almost a full cosmonaut suit. And we had a human-size Rocket, which was weird. So, yeah, we scared the hell out of them the first time.”

As we can plainly see in the game, the early concepts didn’t make it out of the development phase. Bruno Gauthier-Leblanc also talked about how the studio and Marvel found a middle ground for the character designs in as early as the second pitch.

But it wasn’t long until they found common ground; by the second pitch, the two parties were almost in agreement. And Marvel’s own feedback proved helpful when it came to alternate costumes. “A lot of the suits were [Marvel] almost fanboying and pitching us things like, ‘Oh, in this issue in the 1970s, Star-Lord was wearing this – it’ll be awesome’, and we were like, ‘Yeah, let’s do it’.”

While it would have been interesting to see what could have been with Eidos Montreal’s far-out designs, everything worked out in the end, as the studio’s Guardans of the Galaxy game managed to beat expectations. On our end, we gave it an impressive 9.5/10 score (along with an Editor’s Choice badge) and said, “The expectations that I had for this game were unsurprisingly low, and in fact, I had zero interest in even playing it. That would have been a major mistake on my part, and if you are someone who is jaded by the release of Marvel’s Avengers, rest assured Guardians of the Galaxy is everything you could want out of a Marvel Game. It’s fun, entertaining, and quite possibly one of the best games this year. I’ll say it, it might just be my personal Game of the Year.”
