DICE: “Not Impossible” to See Changes Regarding Battlefield V Gun Upgrade System

If you played the Battlefield V beta, then chances are, you’ve fiddled around with the game’s gun upgrade/configuration system, which is a big departure from past Battlefield games.

This time, attachments are purely cosmetic, and the gun itself had an upgrade tree that branched out, with the player choosing which side to upgrade, and spend the necessary Armory credits to unlock it.

If you weren’t a fan of that, then there’s hope for it yet! Over on Twitter, Core Gameplay Design developer Florian (or also known as DRUNKKZ3), posted a long message explaining that the Battlefield V gun upgrade system could still change as the game evolves, and states that he understands why players are missing what Battlefield 3 and 4’s upgrade system.

Here’s the entire message in one easy to read format.

We are still at a stage where tweaking is needed and i expect that to still be the case once BFV launches, the upgrades in the Open Beta were very much our first real test with actual players and based on feedback as well as the data we will iterate more on those i’m sure.

I’ve been reading a lot of feedback on how players feel about the upgrade system in its current form and i totally see what players miss against what we had in BF3/BF4, i would even say that i personally agree.

Now on the functionality of what the upgrades bring currently, this isn’t _really_ different than what some of the combinations could bring in BF3 or BF4 for best combinations.

A lot of players have expressed their wish to see a system that is more of a sidegrade system instead of straight upgrades, this isn’t really something i can answer at this point since there are quite a lot of « parts » involved to change that direction…

…. i’m even wondering if a 2 paths tree is enough to have an interesting sidegrade system. With that being said, we are discussing it internally for sure and it’s not impossible to see changes in that direction moving forward.

Extra comments on hip-fire and recoil: We’re not really far from what you could get on BF3/ BF4, in certain cases we actually have much more recoil than popular weapons (ACE-23) in sustained fire. Some weapons however start lower to fit the generally lower ROF of WW2 weapons.

As we grow the amount of available weapons in the game, there will be room for more diversity in terms of handling and we will have more difficult weapons that will be more challenging for the more experienced players that outclass weapons more tailored towards the new players.

We also need to keep in mind that the current weapon handling and balance needs to work on both console and PC – at this point. With that in mind, we can’t really make the handling too difficult else that would be a bad experience on console generally speaking.

Seperating that down the line is something we still have in mind though as this would allow us to ensure the experience can be as deep as possible on both platforms equally and without limitations.

As someone who prefers the gun customization and upgrades in Battlefield 3 and 4, I hope DICE can somehow change Battlefield V’s gun upgrade system wherein it’s part of the overall parts (muzzle brake, stock, etc.), and have a proper give and take when it comes to upgrading them. If not, we’ll see high rank players dump on low level newbies just because the veteran players’ weapons are outright better, which isn’t something you want.

This won’t be the only change coming to Battlefield V based on the beta. Respawn time will be tweaked, starting and max ammo capacity will be changed as well. Let’s hope a proper second beta test with all the fixes will really be made available by DICE before the game’s November 20 release date.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout Beta Update Activates Fast Collapse, Feedback Responses Listed

True to their word, Treyarch has rolled out another Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout beta update, and it brings the mode’s first-ever event-based playlist called “Fast Collapse.” Fast Collapse makes the play area is constrained at twice the speed, and is just one of the three special events planned during the beta.

Treyarch is also listening to the feedback by the players, and has listed down the responses to some of the more pressing concerns (via Reddit).

Many of our other updates are based on direct community feedback. After listening across our social channels overnight and throughout the day, here are some responses to the most critical pieces of feedback we’ve been seeing:

  • Level 2 & 3 Armor: As with the MP Beta, we’re taking a cautious approach to changes to Armor during the Blackout Beta as we keep an eye on overall gameplay balance. As part of a secondary update that recently went live yesterday, we fixed a bug where all explosive damage was not impacting Level 3 Armor. We are currently evaluating and testing where and how often Level 3 Armor makes its appearance, as well as reducing its absorption properties (will transfer more damage and break easier). In doing so, we are also evaluating Level 2 armor to adjust appropriately.
  • Weapons: We slowed down the rate at which you can aim down the sights of the Koshka sniper rifle, and continue to carefully measure the performance and popularity of other weapons. We’ve got our eyes on the Vapr right now. It’s an incredibly popular weapon (no doubt given how powerful its suppressor is), but it hasn’t precisely proven to be overpowered.
  • Zombies: Zombies can attack you from a range we didn’t intend. We are testing the fix for this right now.
  • Item Distribution: This important game system governs how many of which type of Item (be it a Weapon, Perk Consumable, Backpack, Attachment, or anything else) appears at any Destination, in a Supply Drop, or in a Stash. We continue to slowly refine the quantity, frequency, and quality of those Items.
  • Item/Inventory Management: We’ve gotten a ton of great feedback about the Inventory and Item management systems in Blackout. As a start, we’ve decreased how long it takes to pick up Items in the world. Additionally, we automatically close the Quick Equip menu if you haven’t interacted with it within 5 seconds. We are currently evaluating additional “quality of life” features to improve this experience, including how you interact with a Stash and manage Attachments on weapons more efficiently. Some of these are complex systems and may not be ready before the Beta period ends.
  • Kill Credit: We’ve seen that there are certain situations where players are not being properly credited for kills. We’re looking to track down all the different scenarios where this happens and will fix them for launch.
  • Ladders: We’re aware that a number of players have had issues backing down ladders. The team is considering ways to address this. Adjustments to climbing down ladders may not make it into the Beta, but we’re looking at it in time for launch. As a reminder, it’s always faster to base jump if you’re high enough. Sprint towards the edge and press and hold the Jump button.
  • Reporting Bad Behavior: As we mentioned in our first update, we’re continuing to track bad player behavior with our security team and have been banning users for intentional team killing. If you encounter this or other bad behavior in-game, you can be part of the solution by using the “Report Player” system in the Social menu to report:
    • Offensive Language
    • Cheating
    • Griefing

In addition to the items above, we’ve also made the following updates today:

  • Playlist Updates:
    • Added new “Fast Collapse” playlist (notes above).
  • Miscellaneous Fixes:
    • General stability and matchmaking fixes.
    • Downed players can no longer interact with their Inventory.
    • Fixed an issue where a raft was spawning upside down near Hydro Dam.
    • Fixed an exploit that could lead to unlimited ammo.
  • Tuning Updates:
    • Armor: Players wearing Level 3 armor will now take explosive damage.
    • Titan: Fixed the reticle on the gold Titan.
    • Koshka: Headshots will no longer 1-shot players with 200HP.
    • Paladin: Headshots will no longer 1-shot players with 200HP.

Stay tuned to MP1st for the latest Black Ops 4 news!

SoulCalibur VI Cervantes Trailer Brings Some Swashbuckling Action

In a press release, Bandai Namco has announced that the immortal pirate, Cervantes, will be joining the SoulCalibur VI roster! To mark this announcement, a new trailer showcasing the pirate has been revealed as well.

A pirate’s life can only be described as one long sailing adventure, filled with enough twists and turns to last multiple lifetimes. So, imagine the stories of adventure and swashbuckling Cervantes must have since he’s been sailing the seven seas as an immortal pirate since forever!

Cervantes is a bad man in every sense of the term. Wielding dual swords – Acheron which he plundered from its former owner, and Nirvana, a dagger whose hilt houses a pistol – Cervantes is simply deadly with these blades, especially when he rushes opponents, knocks them down, or launches them in the air in order to deal hard-hitting combos for maximum destruction and pain.

All this power is not without its drawbacks as Cervantes is cursed to pursue Soul Edge for eternity, drawn to the sword’s power, his life intertwined with the fate of the cursed blade.

SoulCalibur VI is set to hit the PS4, Xbox One, and PC this October 19, 2018.

PUBG Concurrent Player Count on PC Drops Below 1 Million for the First Time in a Year

Just last year, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) was the undeniable king of the hill when it came to not only the battle royale genre, but even when it came to games with the largest concurrent active daily players.

While the PUBG concurrent player numbers are still nothing to sneeze at, it’s now dipped below one million for the first time in a  year! Checking SteamDB, it lists the 24-hour peak as only 976,253! Could this dip be due to PUBG’s closest rival, Fortnite? Or maybe it’s because the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 battle royale mode called Blackout, was available for beta participants yesterday?

It’s weird seeing this sudden dip, as just eight months ago, PUBG saw its all-time high of over 3.2 million concurrent players shock everyone. Who would have thought that’d be the game’s all-time high, right? Of course, hitting 970,ooo concurrent players is no easy feat, and it’s definitely far from the game dying or fading into oblivion, but it’s worth noting nonetheless.

Should PUBG Corporation or Bluehole be worried? Most likely not, but given how the game’s player base has consistently dropped due to Fortnite’s success, don’t be surprised if PUBG dips below one million players again.

In other PUBG news, check out this grease-proof Xbox One controller made by Microsoft to commemorate the game’s launch in Australia.

Battlefield V Respawn Time Changes Confirmed

While we already reported that DICE has said that the max ammo capacity and starting ammo count in Battlefield V will be tweaked based on feedback from the recently concluded beta, it seems another controversial issue will be changed as well,

Over on Twitter, DICE Technical Design Director Gustav Halling confirmed that the respawn and revive time in Battlefield V will be changed to make it quicker to get back into the game.

Good news, right? This isn’t the only thing changing from the beta, either. It’s been confirmed that enemy visibility will be looked at, and spawn protection is going away, too. Would you want the respawn time to change, or should DICE keep it as is to prevent people from just rushing out head first into the battlefield?

In other Battlefield V news, DICE has confirmed that custom servers won’t be available at launch, and there’s a chance that another beta might happen before the game’s November 20 release date.

Anthem Has 4-6 Teams Working on Content

If there’s one thing live services games like Destiny, The Division has going for it, it’s that they have an ever-changing and steady flow of content that’s aimed to keep players constantly engaged. If BioWare’s latest statements regarding Anthem is to be believed, content won’t be an issue with it at all.

Speaking to USGamer at PAX, BioWare Producer Mark Darrah, and Lead Producer Mike Gamble were asked if BioWare has multiple teams working within the studio working on new content like other live services games.

Is there a lot of flexibility with the dev team? I spoke with another live service developer earlier this year and they have four teams working on new content to pump them out at a regular clip. Is this the same for BioWare?

Mike Darrah: That’s exactly right. I can’t remember the number, but it’s in that sort of four, five, or six-

Mike Gamble: Streams.

MD: Streams of content. You know you’re going to do this kind of content and you want to do it every three months, but it takes five months to work so you need to have two of those going at the same time. But also, it’s just things like, ‘Okay, well we’re going to have one stream of people working on quality of life improvements and one group of people working on this kind of drip feed narrative stuff, or this kind of person is going to work on all the holiday events.’ So, it’s really about keeping the machinery running and not doing this very serialized developments that you see

MG: I don’t want to sound like we have hubris in this. We will make our own share of mistakes we absolutely will. Everyone who launches these kinds of games makes their share of mistakes. It’s, as you said, having the flexibility in the team to build, to respond to those quickly. Because we can test, test, test, test, we can focus on something and then it’s the thing that we don’t test which is like, ‘Gotcha!’ And you have to be able to respond right?

This is definitely good news, right? Let’s hope BioWare can make the missions and new content feel fresh and different enough from each other so players won’t get bored.

In other Anthem news, BioWare has confirmed that the game’s Lead Combat developer was also the Combat Lead dev for Halo. Regarding content, don’t forget that all story-driven DLC will be free!

Anthem will be out this coming February 22, 2019 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and a demo will be out before then.

Battlefield V Second Beta With Fixes Might Happen, Q&A With Lead MP Designer Happening Tomorrow

While the Battlefield V beta is already wrapped up as you read this, it seems there’s a chance that a second Battlefield V beta might happen. Over on Twitter, DICE Multplayer Producer David Sirland was asked why the studio isn’t extending the beta, to which Sirland replied that he’d rather get another one (BFV beta) out with all the fixes patched in.

Note that this is NOT a confirmation that a second Battlefield V beta will happen, but rather there is a possibility of it happening. So temper those expectations before anyone gets too excited, alright?

Also of note, the official DICE Twitter account announced that a Twitter takeover of the studio’s account will happen tomorrow, where Lead Multiplayer Designer for BFV, Valerian Noghin, will answer fan questions.

Make sure to keep an eye out when this Q&A is live by following the official DICE Twitter. Get those questions ready but don’t be surprised if there’s a few questions the studio can’t answer directly.

In other Battlefield V news, it’s been confirmed that custom servers won’t be ready at launch. DICE has also confirmed that enemy visibility will be looked upon, and spawn protection will be going away.

Keep an eye out on our Battlefield V hub page for the latest Battlefield news.

Battlefield V Rent a Server Program/Custom Servers Won’t Be Ready at Launch

If you’re one of the many people who like renting servers in Battlefield games to play on one map 24/7, you’re out of luck! It seems Battlefield V custom servers and the rent a server program won’t be available when the game launches this November.

This was revealed during the deep dive show over the weekend, and was mentioned over on Twitter by various Battlefield YouTubers like Westie and DannyOnPC.

While the Battlefield V beta is almost over, the deluge of info doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. DICE has mentioned that enemy visibility will be improved come release, and spawn protection will be taken out completely. The studio has also said that players can expect big content drops for Battlefield V every 12 weeks.

Are you disappointed with the news, or are you expecting it already given the game’s release date was moved from October to November 20?

Tekken 7 Update 2.01 Punches Out, Is a Quick but “Critical” Update

While Tekken 7 players might have downloaded the big content and gameplay additions drop a few days ago, it seems Bandai Namco has released Tekken 7 update 2.01 just now!

Given how robust the last patch was, it’s to be expected that this Tekken 7 update 2.01 file doesn’t really add anything in terms of actual gameplay, but according to franchise producer Katsuhiro Harada, it’s a “critical issue fix patch,” and it will remedy some of the Arts/Control issues that are not designed properly.

Remember that the update time differs by platform and region, so don’t blame Bandai Namco if it isn’t live on your platform just yet.

Go check out the official Bandai Namco site for the full gameplay tweaks for each character (this was from update 2.00). Once we know more about this game update, we’ll update the post.

If you notice any big changes out of the gate that wasn’t in the big 2.00 update, let us know in the comments.

Fortnite Update v5.40 (1.78 on PS4) Out Now, Here’s the Patch Notes

Epic Games has released Fortnite update v5.40 — or Fortnite update 1.87 — and it’s full of gameplay fixes, and new content.

The big addition out of the gate is the High Stakes event! Check out the trailer below to see what to expect.

Suit up… the High Stakes event has begun! Play the new Getaway LTM, complete challenges to unlock free cosmetic rewards and bling out your squad with new store offerings.

Here’s some of the other new content added to the game (via Epic Games):

Grappler (Battle Royale)

Make a daring escape or get into the action quickly! This new item attaches to anything you hit for quick traversal.

Weekly Horde Challenge 5 (Save the World)

With increased health and the ability to bat players away with strong knockbacks, these Husks are no joke. Gather your team and take them on now!

Harvester Fiona (Save the World)

Smoke bomb the field and jump into the action! A new Harvester Ninja joins the fight.

Halo 5: Guardians Boxart Hints at PC Release

Could a proper Halo game finally be making its way onto PCs? Online retail giant Amazon has a new update to its Halo 5: Guardians listing, which includes a change to the boxart. It now says “Xbox One Console Exclusive,” and it replaces the “Only on Xbox One” label the game’s box had before.

Check out a comparison shot of the two boxarts:

Important to note here is that Microsoft also used the”Xbox One Console Exclusive” label for other Xbox games that made it to PC such as Quantum Break.

Microsoft has not made a comment regarding Halo 5: Guardians’ availability on PC.

For reference, the last proper Halo game that was available on PC was Halo 2 which was available way back in 2007.

If this is true, then Halo 5: Guardians will join Halo: Infinite (or otherwise known as Halo 6), as the latest Halo games making their way to the PC platform.

Would you want to see Halo 5: Guardians on PC? Or is it too late now?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout Beta Changes Based on Day 1 Feedback, Fixes Set to Go Live Tomorrow

In case you didn’t know, the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 battle royale beta is now live for PlayStation 4 gamers. With the first 24 hours of the Black Ops 4 Blackout beta bookmarked, Treyarch has gone out of its way to communicate some of the things the studio is changing come Black Ops 4’s launch on October 12.

Check out the list of upcoming Blackout changes below (via Reddit).

  • Item Pickups: We’ve seen several comments suggesting that the item pickup time is slower than expected. We’ll be updating the game to make pickup speeds as fast as possible without interfering with reloading, and make it easier to pick up items without looking directly at them. PC players will also be able to map keys to instantly pick up items when the Blackout Beta goes live on PC later this week.
  • Quick Equip Menu: Some players have had trouble performing certain actions while the Quick Equip menu is open. We have two fixes set to go live around 10AM PT tomorrow (Tuesday) that will help with this: Quick Equip will auto-close if you don’t do anything in it for 5 seconds, and auto-close and prevent from opening when using the Recon Car. For future reference, the Quick Equip menu can be closed by pressing down on the d-pad.
  • Armor: Much like the early days of the MP Beta, we’ve seen some online discussion about the utility of Armor in Blackout. We’re keeping a close eye on Armor’s performance during the Beta.
  • Friendly Fire: We’re aware that friendly fire allows your teammates to take you out – by mistake, or in some unfortunate circumstances, on purpose. While we always recommend choosing your Duo and Quad partners wisely, we’ll keep an eye on teamkilling throughout the Beta and consider other options. We’re also collecting stats on players who damage their teammates with friendly fire and have a security team monitoring those players for offenses that are outside the bounds of the occasional accident. Play nice out there.

In case you didn’t see the second bulletpoint, there’s two fixes going up tomorrow, Tuesday, at 10 a.m. PT that will fix the quick equip menu issues.

In addition to the list of changes based on the first 24 hours of feedback, Treyarch has also doled out a list of tips that should help you last long on the battlefield.

  • Infiltration: To achieve maximum distance when dropping onto the map in your wingsuit, try pointing straight down until you hit 60 meters/second, then level out. Pulling up past the horizontal position will cause your descent to slow.
  • Heal on the Move: You don’t need to stop moving to heal! This can be a real game-changer when you’re under fire and low on health.
  • Weapon Breakdown: Need to drop your weapon’s attachments quickly? Try hovering the cursor over your weapon in your inventory, then drop all attachments to break your weapon down.
  • Base-Jumping Off Structures / Re-deploying Wingsuits: There’s been some confusion out there about how to re-deploy your wingsuit to base jump during a match. Make sure that you’re high enough above the ground and simply sprint towards your desired location, then press and HOLD the jump button.

There’s loads more Black Ops 4 Blackout info out there right now, and Activision has even issued an official “Field Manual” for players to peruse.

What changes or tweaks do you think Treyarch needs to do that hasn’t been mentioned in the list?

Battlefield V Enemy Visibility to Be “Looked at and Improved,” Spawn Protection “Going Away”

If you’ve played the Battlefield V beta and thought that it was a bit hard to differentiate enemies from the environments, you’re not alone! Players on various social platforms have also expressed concern about this, and it seems we have good news.

Over on Twitter, I asked DICE Multiplayer Producer David Sirland if there’s any changes coming to Battlefield V in terms of enemy visibility.

Granted, there’s no specific fix detailed, but the fact that it’s going to be “improved” is enough for most of us.

Another thing people might have had issues with during the Battlefield V beta is how spawn protection works way too good. If you’re part of the fanbase that hates it, well, you’re in luck! Sirland has also confirmed that it’s going away!

For more on Battlefield V, make sure to check out our info-filled hub page. In it, you can check out our tips feature on what you should know about the game before playing it. DICE also outlined that Battlefield V will have big content drop every 12 weeks once the game’s out.

Battlefield V will ship out this November 20 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
