StarCraft II Pays Tribute to TotalBiscuit With a Commemorative Bundle

While video games are almost always about fun and good times, it’s important to remind ourselves that behind the people that make the games, and the people who create content for ’em, all lead personal lives, and not everything that happens is good.

One such unfortunate thing is the passing of John “TotalBiscuit: Bain. In case you didn’t know, Bain succumbed to cancer earlier this year. While he might be creating content anymore, Bain is still affecting games one way or the other, and in this case, it’s with Blizzard’s StarCraft II. Bain has been known for his love of StarCraft, and it’s now time for Blizzard to pay him back. In appreciation for his contributions to the game, its community, and more, Blizzard has announced the StarCraft II commemorative cosmetics dedicated to Bain and his family! What’s even better here is, 100 percent of the funds received from the sale of these items will go directly to Genna (Bain’s wife) and their son, Orion.

Additionally, any future sales of John’s Announcer Pack will also go directly to support the Bain family. This TotalBiscuit bundle for the game will be available this week, and is a limited time offer. Once it sells out after December 31, 2018, it will no longer be available.

This is definitely a fantastic move by Blizzard, and it shows how games and their developers can have a positive impact on someone’s life, even if they’ve passed.

Anthem Combat Lead Developer Was Also the Combat Lead on Halo

If you’re a fan of Halo’s style of combat, then you might want to keep an eye out for BioWare’s Anthem. It seems the person in charge of combat in Halo, is now at BioWare and is the Combat Lead for Anthem!

Speaking to USGamer at PAX, BioWare Producer Mark Darrah, and Lead Producer Mike Gamble were asked whether the studio had any specialized devs working on Anthem’s combat.

Mark Darrah: Our combat lead worked on Halo and was actually, I think, was a combat lead on Halo. So yeah, we do have we do have pedigree from more action focused studios.

Mike Gamble: But I do have to counter that a little bit because we’ve been building better and better combat experience for like 10 years now. It’s like, you start out with [Mass Effect 1] and then you go on to [Mass Effect 2] and that [action] was tighter. [Mass Effect] Three was even better. [Andromeda] you would argue that Andromeda’s – one of the strong suits was… the jetpack and the combat and how that stuff worked.

This is definitely interesting news,  though it’s hard to see how much influence Halo has with Anthem until we’ve spent some hands-on time with it.

Is this Halo connection a good or bad thing for you? We’re curious to hear what you have to say, so share your thoughts in the comments below.

In other Anthem news, BioWare has said that they think no game has nailed a multiplayer game focused on co-op that also has a great story. Could Anthem be the first one, then? Remember, all story-driven DLC will be free to everyone, which is a good way to not fracture the player base.

Battlefield V to Have “Big Content Drops” Every 12 Weeks, Sea Combat Confirmed

Just a few days ago, DICE held a Battlefield V deep dive video touching a few key points regarding the game. Given the show lasted more than an hour, it’s understandable if not everyone was able to sit through the entire thing.

Fortunately for us, details regarding the show has made its way online, and in chew-able chunks! In one part of the video show, DICE confirmed that Battlefield V will get “big content drops” every 12 weeks, which is the time for each season. They’ve also made it clear that this doesn’t mean that the game won’t get gameplay tweaks, balance patches and more since it will, though the big ones with new Assignments, new content and the like, are scheduled to drop every 12 weeks.

DICE’s goal with Tides of War from r/BattlefieldV

In another part of the show, DICE also confirmed that there’s going to be sea combat in Battlefield V — at least for one map. The map’s name is Hamada, which is a “massive African desert map” that’s close to the ocean. DICE states, “this will be the map that’s going to have land, air, and sea combat.”

Hamada, the African desert map, is confirmed to have Land, Air and SEA combat. from r/BattlefieldV

Well, there you have it! Sea combat confirmed for Battlefield V, and fans should expect seasons to change every 12 weeks, and along with it, bring new content along for the ride.

In other Battlefield V news, DICE confirmed that max ammo capacity, starting ammo and more will be tweaked for the final release. We also posted a Battlefield V console settings piece to give you the best aiming possible with a controller.

Battlefield V Console Settings Detailed, Here’s the Optimum Values

Like it or not, the Battlefield franchise is very big on consoles, and it doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon with Battlefield V.

Having said that, the Battlefield V console settings in terms of controls aren’t really optimized out of the gate. Sure, it’s usable, but if you want to do well, and be the top dog in your squad, you’ll need to tweak your console settings. Fortunately for you, we have just the thing! Thanks to YouTuber TheTacticalBrit, he has posted a detailed Battlefield V console settings tutorial that goes over everything! Aiming sensitivity, vehicle look sensitivity and more are discussed! Check out the video below.

Here’s a quick rundown on what to expect in the video:

The best settings mentioned here give the player sharper reaction times, and helps you improve your chances in combat engagements.

The sensitivity listed seeks to find a good trade off between speed and what feels natural.

Audio settings is best when using surround sound, or headphones.

Stick aiming acceleration, which is a big deal to most, dropped to 40 percent (halfway between Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 4’s style of aiming).

L1 and R1 are superior for aiming and shooting (he explains why).

If you’re looking for specific values, check ’em out below.

Soldier 40-50% sensitivity
1x zoom 130%
4x 120%
10x 110%

Vehicle sensitivity 30%
Stick acceleration 40%
Simplified air controls off.
Veteran vehicle and air sticks.
Uniform soldier aiming on.

Got that? Good! Try these out and let us know how it feels. Note that even if these console settings are based on just the beta, chances are it’ll also be the same when the full game launches this November 20 — unless DICE implements some sweeping changes, of course.

In other Battlefield V news, DICE has confirmed that it’s tweaking the max ammo capacity, starting ammo and more due to beta feedback. There’s also this cool bit that DICE has implemented for snipers when they go on a killing streak. Finally, make sure to checkout our Battlefield V beta tips feature to see how you can improve your game.

Anthem: BioWare Thinks “No One” Has Nailed a Multiplayer Game That Has Co-Op and Able to Tell a Great Story

While BioWare is known for crafting excellent RPG games like the Mass Effect and Dragon Age franchises, the studio’s first foray into the “live services” game genre will be Anthem, which, for better or for worse, will be compared to the likes of Bungie’s Destiny and/or Ubisoft’s The Division.

In an interview with USGamer at PAX, BioWare Producer Mark Darrah, and Lead Producer Mike Gamble were asked what’s the main takeaway BioWare wants to get across to people who are curious about how single-player works in Anthem. Gamble comments that he thinks that a multiplayer game that has co-op “at heart” and that can also tell a great story hasn’t been “nailed yet.”

Mark Darrah: I think what we want people to understand is, while Anthem is a very different game from games that BioWare’s done before, there’s still storytelling at its heart. It’s still about characters, it’s still about getting to know people in the world and that we’re telling story through this new way of, what we call ‘Our World, My Story,’ which is about going out into a shared world where story things happen. But then your true storytelling agency happens in Fort Tarsis where those choices live and you have that single-player, more player-driven narrative experience.

Mike Gamble: And it is a hard problem to solve. It’s like how do you do a multiplayer game that has cooperative at its heart, but also still be able to tell a great story? And you know I don’t think anyone actually nailed it yet. I think we probably have a pretty good shot at coming out of the gates and being able to do it. But it takes intentional design from the very beginning to split out, ‘Okay this is how you’re going to do your missions, and this is how you’re going to do your character building.’

Of course, it’s hard to read Gamble’s statement without thinking of Destiny. It’s open to debate whether he’s right on the whole “no one has nailed it yet” thing, though.

Do you agree with BioWare? Has no one nailed the multiplayer co-op experience that has a compelling story in terms of games just yet? Do you think Anthem will be able to do that?

In another Anthem news, BioWare has confirmed that all story-driven DLC will be free! Make sure to check out the latest gameplay trailer as well.

Battlefield V: Profanity Chat Filter Censors “DLC,” but “Free DLC” Is Allowed

Here’s something kind of hilarious to bookmark your week: the Battlefield V beta’s profanity filter for chat has something odd going for it While it’s normal for games to censor racist, and other hateful words, it seems EA (or DICE) has taken it a step further.

Apparently, typing in “DLC” in Battlefield V’s chat (on PC) will result in the words being crossed out (censored). However, if people write in “free DLC,” then it’s fine. Check out proof of it below via Reddit user Alexs220.

Granted, this is based on a beta, and chances are, this will be amended come launch, but it’s still funny to see given how Battlefield V publisher EA has notoriously been the poster child for microtransactions and exploitative video game business practices.

We’ve reached out to EA to seek a statement on whether this was intentional, or just a freak software mishap. We’ll be sure to update the story if and when they reply.

It’s been a busy week for Battlefield V given the beta is still on-going. DICE has confirmed that max ammo capacity and more are being tweaked for release based on the beta. We also ran a 7 Things You Need to Know Before Playing the Battlefield V Beta feature, which you should read as well. Finally, DICE has revealed a lot of significant details regarding Battlefield V’s battle royale mode called Firestorm.

GT Sport 1.26 Update Races Out, Here’s What’s in It

Just two weeks ago, Polyphony Digital released a hefty, content-filled update to Gran Turismo Sport. Today, a new one has rolled out, though don’t expect the same kind of content we got last month.

The GT Sport 1.26 update has been released, and as one can expect, it’s mostly for bug fixes. Here’s the super short patch notes for this latest GT Sport update:

1.My Menu / Discover
– Fixed an issue where infrequent application error occurs when users view My Menu or Discover.

2.Racing Wheel Controllers
– Fixed an issue where rotation angle setting from the game end did not carry out with steering wheels, Fanatec® CSL Elite Racing Wheel(for PS4).

Other minor corrections and adjustments have beenperformed.

Given how Polyphony has supported the game so far, fans should expect another content-filled update later at the end of this month.

Battlefield V Ammo Capacity, Resupply Station Locations & More Being Tweaked Based on the Beta

Possibly one of the most controversial changes DICE has made to the franchise in Battlefield V, is the introduction of resupply stations for ammo and health. These resupply stations replace the standard health regeneration, and considerable ammo pool players start out with when they spawn.

With the Battlefield V beta in full swing, the gaming masses have now spent a considerable time with these new gameplay changes, and it seems DICE is taking the feedback very seriously. While some might like the sweeping changes made to the game’s overall gameplay mechanics, not everyone is a fan, and DICE has confirmed they are tweaking a few things based on beta feedback.

Over on Twitter, Franchise Design Director Daniel Berlin has confirmed that the Battlefield V max ammo capacity, starting ammo per spawn and more are being tweaked!

Here’s the list again in case the tweet didn’t embed properly:

SOME things we are tweaking:
1. Max ammo capacity
2. Starting ammo per spawn
3. Amount of ammo dropped from killed enemy
4. Amount/location of resupply stations.
5. Spawn with or without health pouch

The items mentioned above are some of the most controversial changes has made to the core Battlefield gameplay experience, which some people have been very, very vocal about.

Are you a fan of the “attrition system” DICE has implemented in Battlefield V, or should the game revert to how it handled ammo and health like in past Battlefield games?

In other recent Battlefield V news, there’s a fix for the BFV beta spawn issue, and it’s quite simple to do. We also recently just found out that snipers in BFV will count the number of kills they’re getting if they’re on a streak (you really ought to watch it in action). Finally, make sure to check out our Battlefield V beta tips feature to get a better understanding of the game.

Official Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Battle Royale Beta Info Revealed – Here’s What You Need to Know

In just a few short days, we’ll be able to experience Treyarch’s take on battle royale with the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout beta! As part of the upcoming event, Activision has released what it calls the “Black Ops 4 Blackout Beta Field Manual” or what I call it: the Black Ops 4 battle royale beta info cheat sheet.

The Black Ops 4 Blackout beta will officially start this coming Monday, September 10 (even though you can download the update to the multiplayer beta client right now), with the beta going live at 10 a.m. PST. Bear in mind that this is for PS4. Xbox will have to wait a few days later on September 14, while PC players will need to wait until September 15 to get their Blackout game on. All three platforms’ beta end date is set for September 17, 10 a.m. PST.

The Blackout beta will feature three ways to play: Solos, Duos, and Quads.

You’ll be in the level before the game officially starts. The pre-game lobby is called the Drop Zone, and here you can lear the map, try out weapons, get a better grasp of the gameplay mechanics and more.

Same as with other battle royale games, Blackout will have you ride the skies in a transport helicopter where you can choose when to jump. Your character will wear a wingsuit during this drop process.  More info regarding it:

You can point in the general direction, but for extra speed and distance, fall straight toward down for maximum speed. Since you are using a Wingsuit you are effectively a wing. The more airflow over that wing; the better you can fly. Let it soar…

When you get close to the ground, your parachute will automatically deploy. Use it to slow your momentum. All the information you need to become a wingsuit master is indicated in the game HUD. You can monitor your overall momentum and see where the parachute will deploy as you approach the ground.

While we already listed the vehicles, here’s the list again.

Vehicles

The Blackout Beta features four vehicles for additional mobility in game:

  • ATV – Holds a max of two people and has off-roading capability with medium speed.
  • Cargo Truck – One driver with room for others in the truck bed. It has limited off-roading capability and limited speed. Use the Cargo Truck to store weapons and other Items for your late game push to victory.
  • Tactical Raft – This boat fits two comfortably but can pack in quite a few if you don’t mind getting cozy. The raft is a great way to navigate the abundant water in Blackout.
  • Light Helicopter – a Helicopter that holds a max of four passengers and the pilot. This aircraft will start to malfunction in the late states of the game and is very susceptible to lock-on Missile Launchers, but is by far the fastest way to get from point A to point B.

Regarding loadouts, most of the items in Blackout need to be equipped.

By default, you can equip these items without any cost to your 5 Inventory slots:

  • 2 Weapons
  • 1 Health Item
  • 1 Armor Item
  • 1 Backpack
  • Equipment Item
  • About 200 of each Ammo type.

Loads — and I mean LOADS– more info can be read directly on the official Call of Duty website. Inventory, health management, and more are discussed.

Battlefield V Sniper Kills Counted Out Loud by Your Character Once You’re on a Streak

Here’s a cool little tidbit: in Battlefield V, snipers who go on a kill streak (once past three straight kills) will hear their character’s voice count each successful kill! Not only that, but once you get past 10 straight kills, the voice over will then count in French!

Check this neat little nugget in action in the video below.

Obviously, it’s nothing game-changing or anything of the sort, but it’s still a nice little touch by DICE, no? Of course, this might mean more Ricky Recon snipers will try for the highest streak they can with this new info, but that’s the breaks I guess.

In other Battlefield V news, make sure to read up on our tips feature for the on-going beta, and how you’ll be able to do well. If you’ve experienced the spawn bug issue in the beta, check out a way to fix it super quick right here. Finally, DICE has also revealed more info regarding the game’s battle royale mode “Firestorm,” which you should read up on.

Stay tuned for MP1st’s Battlefield V beta hands-on impressions, which will go up the site soon.

Battlefield V Beta Spawn Bug Has a Fix and It’s Super Easy

If you’re one of the many people pouring in hours into the currently on-going Battlefield V beta, then chances are you’ve encountered a bug or two (or three, or four) during your sessions, which is understandable since this is a beta after all.

However, one such bug won’t even let you spawn in at all! Multiple people on various social platforms have echoed that for some unknown reason, the game won’t let you spawn in as a certain class, and might even show as “deploy point not available” even though it should! The fix is super simple, though might be complicated depending on how much time you’ve spent leveling up.

Over on Twitter, DICE Producer Jaqub Ajmal detailed the following Battlefield V beta spawn issue fix:

In case the tweet above didn’t show up, it reads as:

If you run into an issue in the Open Beta where the game won’t let you spawn as a certain class, do some big changes to the customization, add and remove duplicate weapons and try spawning with another weapon. This workaround has worked for a few players.

Unfortunately, if you’re just starting out and this happens, you won’t have any “big changes” available to your class. In that case, I suggest playing as another class first and then just trying again once you respawn. Definitely not ideal, but hey, it is a beta, no?

For more on the beta, make sure to read our tips feature on the things you need to know before deploying in the Battlefield V beta. You should also check out BFV’s battle royale details and first gameplay look to see if it’s your cup of tea.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Story Details Revealed

Given how secretive Rockstar Games is when it comes to the studio’s titles, it’s no secret that no (believable) leak regarding Red Dead Redemption 2 has been making the rounds. The studio usually controls the flow of information regarding its games, which means we get a few bits and pieces here and there when the studio feels like it.

While we already know that the Red Dead Redemption 2 story is a prequel, and revolves around Arthur Morgan, Rockstar has opened up about it even more in an exclusive with The Hollywood Reporter. Rockstar San Diego Art Director Josh Bass, and Rockstar North Director of Art Aaron Garbut shared a few pertinent details regarding Red Dead Redemption 2’s story, which you can read below.

In Red Dead Redemption 2 you get to see that gang, including (John) Marston, at the peak of their notoriety and at the very moment things begin to fall apart. This story focuses on Arthur Morgan, Dutch’s most trusted enforcer. Adopted into the gang by the Dutch when he was a young boy, Arthur considers the gang to be his family — Dutch has given his life some much‐needed purpose, and the gang has served as the one positive and constant in Arthur’s life.

Things are changing — there’s not much room in a rapidly modernizing world for the gang’s way of life. Through Arthur’s eyes, you see events begin to take a toll on the gang as they are forced to flee across America, while at the same time, Dutch’s hold on the gang begins to slip – Josh Bass

You can read up on more info regarding the Red Dead Redemption 2 story right here.

Microsoft Is Releasing a “Grease-Proof” Xbox One Controller (No, Really!)

Here’s something you don’t see everyday: Xbox Australia is releasing what it calls a “greaseproof” (sic) Xbox One controller to commemorate the full release of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) on the Xbox One!

There’s a Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner joke in there somewhere that’s not lost on Microsoft.

Want to know how effective it is? Go watch this video of Press-Start AU testing it out on a bucket of KFC!

There’s said to be 200 of these bad boys mad worldwide, and each one will have a special numbered marking and #greaseproof1.0 tag — y’know, just in case another controller manufacturer does their own fake grease-proof controller. If you’re in Australia or New Zealand, check out the contest happening later this week. Who knows? You might be lucky enough to snag one of the 10.

I know some (or even Microsoft) might see this as a novelty or joke item of sorts, but wouldn’t something like this be really useful? Not just for chicken dinners and gaming, but for those with grimy hands in general.

In other, less funny Xbox news, Microsoft apparently made a deal with Ubisoft to ensure the Xbox One version of The Division won’t look inferior to the PS4 version.
