Rocket League Future Plans Outlines Plans for 2018, Now at Over 38 Million Players

It’s no secret by now that Psyonix’s Rocket League is a huge success for the studio. However, no one could have guessed it’d be this big. How big? In Psyonix’s year in review for the game, the studio announced that Rocket League now has over 38 million players, and that translated to over two billion matches since the game’s launch in 2015.

In addition to that announcement, Psyonix has announced some of the Rocket League future plans coming to players’ way in 2018. There will be new game servers for regions in South Africa and Asia to improve the game experience for players in those areas.

The first issue is game server performance. We see feedback on this topic regularly and take it very seriously. While many connection issues are out of our hands – like when an internet service provider suddenly starts routing you differently to our datacenters – we are still monitoring performance and looking for ways to improve.

We’ll be rolling out improved connection quality status information in the game client in 2018 that will tell you if you’re experiencing packet loss, latency variance, or legitimate game server performance issues. We’re looking into how we can allow the community to report servers they think are performing poorly to help us identify and resolve problems more quickly. We’re also planning improvements to region selection in matchmaking that would let us roll out servers in regions like US-Central without negatively impacting US-East or US-West.

Xbox One gamers will be glad to know that Psyonix is keeping tabs on the performance issues Rocket League on the platform has been experiencing, and will have more to share in 2018.

Other plans set to go live in 2018 are: in-game tournaments, a revamp of the XP system, being able to unlock new banners and titles, free Decryptors for leveling up and more. There’s even a few quality of life updates being cooked now, and new Trophies and Achievements all set to go live in 2018.

Finally, Psyonix mentioned that it’s “actively working” on cross-platform party support to roll out in 2018.

World of Tanks Future Updates to “1.0” Promised to Be a “Game-Changer,” Check Out the Trailer

If you play World of Tanks, then 2018 will be a big year for you. Wargaming has announced that the free-to-play game’s big World of Tanks 1.0 update will be dropping on March 2018.

The game update will give World of Tanks a complete visual makeover, powered by an in-house game engine. There will be over 25 game maps redesigned, with increased effects quality and fidelity, without affecting the game’s performance.

World of Tanks Development Director Milos Jerabek had this to say:

Update 1.0 is a true game change. Though the spirit of the game remains the same, the introduction of the new graphics engine leads to a far greater boost in image fidelity than a simple resolution increase. It’s a staggering difference from the game as you know it, and we can’t wait for players to get hands-on with it.

One of the biggest newsbeats at this year’s WG Fest is the announcement of Update 1.0. With its release, maps will become larger, and landscapes—more realistic. The update will feature completely reworked water, destructible objects, new effects, and many other interesting things. The game will have new sound. Now, each location will have its own soundtrack to promote the atmosphere of the map.

What improvements need to b e made in World of Tanks 1.0? Do you think it’ll be implemented in time by Wargaming?

Report: PS Plus Free Games January 2018 List Leaked

With the year set to be bookmarked in a week’s time, some might already be looking forward to 2018 (like me!), and the gaming goodness the new year will bring. Well, it seems we don’t have to wait long to find out what the free games will be for PlayStation Plus members in January 2018!

It seems the Dutch PlayStation Facebook page has accidentally published a video (it has since been taken down) that outs the PS Plus free games January 2018 list! Check out the image below for a screengrab of the titles (via Reddit):

The games shown are:

  • Batman: The Telltale Series
  • Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
  • That’s You!

While this listing is for EU gamers, the North America offerings are usually the same each month. It looks like the Dutch PlayStation Facebook moderator accidentally published the video ahead of schedule. Regardless though, treat this one with a little grain of salt until Sony confirms or denies the titles listed.

For those who still haven’t download the free games this month, check ’em out here (Darksiders II: Deathnitve Edition is the big one).

Are you digging the PS Plus free games January 2018 offerings or were you expecting more?

Monster Hunter World Beta Weapons and Mechanics Tip

With Capcom rolling out a second phase for the Monster Hunter World beta (it’s now open to everyone!), newcomers might be wondering how to play the game, and its combat system.

If so, we have just the thing! YouTuber Ace Gaming published a 56-minute video detailing the Monster Hunter World weapons available in the beta, as well as the game mechanics. If you ever wanted to learn how to use the Great Sword, Dual Blades and other weapons, just hit play.

In other Monster Hunter World news, Capcom has mentioned that the campaign is around 40-50 hours long, which means you’ll be slaying a lot of monsters. Speaking of which, there will be free monsters chomping at players post-launch confirmed!

What do you think of the Monster Hunter World beta so far? Did it convert you or is it too grind-y for your tastes?

The Division 2 Hinted at by Ubisoft Massive

While Ubisoft Massive is still heavily supporting The Division with free content and updates, that doesn’t mean the studio and the gamewill last forever. In an interview, Ubisoft Massive Managing Director David Polfedt hinted at the possibily of “The Division 2,” saying there’s a lot of space for “continuation.”

I think it’s a wonderful, wonderful brand that has so many potential stories in it. There are a lot of things that we didn’t do in The Division 1 that are interesting to look at for that brand. I definitely think there’s lots of space for continuation which is beyond just keeping The Division online. But…I can’t talk about that too much right now.

Now, before anyone jumps to conclusions, Polfedt did mention that the studio wants to keep supporting The Division, and even used dating as a comparison — no, really!

I think of [supporting the game and players] as kind of a relationship. As long as you go to another date with your gamers and you feel pretty excited about it, and they seem to be excited too, that’s not when you stop dating.

Polfedt also shared that The Division has increased its player base more and more after patch 1.4, and that the studio feels it’s their “obligation” to make The Division “awesome.”

Needless to say, let’s hope other studios take a page out of Ubisoft Massive’s book when it comes to supporting games post-launch. Released in March 2016, the studio hasn’t relented in updating the game and the community, which I hope continues to 2018.

Would you want to see The Division 2? Or should Ubisoft just continue making expansions to the game?

Arms Won’t Be Receiving Any More Content Updates

Yesterday, we reported on the latest Arms update (5.0.0), which brought a new fighter, new ARMs, a new stage, and much more. While this was a fantastic update, which players are sure to love, it’s also the final content update that the game will be getting.

Nintendo posted the following message on their Japanese site:

大型のアップデートとしては、今回が最後のアップデートになる予定です。もちろん、今後もゲームバランスの調整は継続しておこなっていきますので、参戦ファイターも増えてにぎやかになった『ARMS』を、今後ともお楽しみいただければ幸いです!

Translated as:

As a major update, this one [the just released v.5 update] will be the last update. Of course, we will continue to adjust the game’s balance in the future, so I hope you will continue to enjoy ARMS.

Arms has only been out for six months, a short amount of time for a fighting game to stop putting out content. On the other hand, a lot of free additional content has been crammed into those six months of updates. Five new fighters, 12 new ARMs, and five new stages have been made freely available to all players.

Arms will still receive balance tweaks, so the game isn’t going to be totally abandoned.

Are you still playing Arms? Sad to see the content updates stop? Let us know.

Call of Duty: WWII Double XP for Divisions Now Live on Operation Griffin and Zombies

Got nothing to do this holiday weekend? If so, you might want to consider jumping in to Call of Duty: WWII as Sledgehammer Games is flipping the switch on some double XP holiday goodness.

However, it won’t be for all modes and not your general double XP buff, but just for Operation Griffin in War mode. If you log in now, you’ll see that it’s called “Winter’s War,” and yep, it’ll net you double XP for Divisions. If you want to Prestige your Divisions, now might be the time to do so given the amount of XP War gives out.

As the tweet states, there’s also going to be double XP for Nazi Zombies mode as well.

In other Call of Duty: WWII news, Sledgehammer Games rolled out a server-side update that buffs a few of the SMGs, and nerfs a few of the weapons! You can read the entire patch notes right here.

Warframe Update Adds Ghoul Purge Bounties, Out for PC Today

Free-to-play game Warframe is getting a holiday event today with the Ghoul Purge Bounties! This Warframe update is, of course, free to everyone who’s playing the game, and is a timed event.

Check out the announcement straight from the press release below.

The grounds of the Plains have erupted with vile beings of Grineer origin – repugnant Ghouls that overrun their victims in a gruesome mass of limbs, toxin and violence. Players will encounter them via a Ghoul Alert, or by stumbling across their graveyards (where they are “born” from the ground), through Incursions or Bounties.

Four in all, these disgusting new Grineer include the Rictus Ghoul, who wields a deadly, ridable buzz saw; the Auger Ghoul, armed with dual flame-thrower that double as drills for limbs, digs down into the earth in one spot, disappears, and surfaces in another for a surprise attack; the Devourer Ghoul, a hideous, fat, pustule-laden beast with a lengthy tongue, spiked fists, and a jet pack to thrust him forward to shred Tenno to bits; and the Expired Ghoul, who dons bomb-spiked gloves to beat and detonate enemies to pieces.

To counter this plague upon the Plains, Tenno can arm themselves with a handful of equally authoritative weapons. Prepare to wield the majestic Corinth, a double barreled shotgun that’s commanding and explosive up-close; the sleek, deadly Gunsen, a steel-bladed, fan-like weapon that slices the throats of unsuspecting enemies in a mini-second; the satisfyingly brutal four-barreled Quartakk rifle; and the Grineer favorite, a compact, high fire-rate, automatic Uzi dubbed the Stubba.

There’s also a new trailer out regarding the new event.

Finally, players can now customize their Living Quarters and show it off to people!

The best is always last! Tenno can now personalize and decorate their own Personal Quarters with an assortment of cool items. Customize the Landing Craft with a mini-stage, then select from posable Warframe figures, companion toys and beds, wallpaper, a fish tank and more to create a mini diorama of one’s own making. Plus, players can now invite a friend inside to visit!

Full details can be seen on the official Warframe website.

Are you joining this Warframe event? If you want to see more Warframe here on MP1st, let us know in the comments.

Bungie on Destiny 2 Dawning Engrams Controversy: “Stay Tuned, and Keep the Feedback Coming!”

Destiny 2‘s “The Dawning” event brings a lot exciting activities to the game, offering players some new ways to celebrate the holidays. However, the event also brings more content to the game’s Eververse marketplace, placing a lot of the more interesting rewards behind a paywall. (Note: There is a chance that you’ll get these rewards through a limited number of free Dawning Engrams, but it seems pretty damn slim!)

Members of the Destiny 2 community have been very vocal about their disappointment in how Bungie is really pushing players to invest more money for the better items.

Bungie.net forum user janeth30stm posted his thoughts on Dawning Engrams and the changes he wanted to see:

Destiny is about earning loot , not buying loot

Everything from eververse could be put into endgame activities ( if it had actual endgame ) for us to grind and unlock instead of just putting more and more stuff to the eververse store for people to waste more money on smh

* Edit , I’m talking about everything that’s new in the dawning event people , you certainly won’t be able to get everything or whatever you specifically want , without paying ( if you want to pay that is , or using bright dust or whatever ) because rng can screw you in the process therefore if you don’t get what you want from the free engrams you get by playing the event , what will people do ? Buy more instead when they could put some of the dawning stuff to get by idk maybe playing the game and actually getting those stuff as rewards from nightfalls , strikes or raid completions ( maybe public events ) but nope , it’ll all be locked behind eververse tempting you to buy more and more until you get what you want in the end after getting repeats upon repeats of useless mods or shaders and finally feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment for getting what you wanted by paying for the loot

Bungie’s dmg04 responded with:

Thank you for the feedback. This is being collected and forwarded to the appropriate teams as necessary.

Once we return in 2018, we’ll speak to the feedback collected over the holiday season and give some details on future plans. Stay tuned, and keep the feedback coming!

I guess we’ll have to wait until 2018 to see what Bungie has planned.

In other Destiny 2 news, the first issue of the game’s webcomic is now out and available for free, the new Mayhem mode is broken thanks to a Warlock glitch, and here’s what happened to the game’s most powerful weapon.

Fortnite 50 vs 50 Mode Is Returning, Epic Games Confirms

If you, like me, were sad to see the Fortnite 50 vs 50 mode disappear, with Epic Games forcing players to return to less epic game modes, you’ll be wanting to turn that frown upside down… Fortnite 50 vs 50 is returning, available to play from December 23 until December 28.

The announcement was posted on the official Fortnite Twitter:

Notice how the word “rotating” is used. I think that’s a hint at this game mode making frequent appearances. This is great news! (Though, I wouldn’t mind it being permanent!)

If you didn’t get a chance to give Fortnite 50 vs 50 a go when it was last featured, do try and play it this time around! The game really comes into its own with players building together.

Second PUBG Xbox Update Reduces Weapon Recoil, Expands Sensitivity Options & More

Another PUBG Xbox update has already been pumped out to the Xbox One and Xbox One X versions of the game. The developers say that the “second patch is focused on quality of life fixes (weapon recoil for example) as well as trying to resolve some of the stability issues that have been brought to [their] attention.”

Here’s the full list of patch notes:

Optimization

Continued performance optimizations

In-game

The tuning range for the general sensitivity option has been expanded

Weapon recoil reduced across the board (Xbox Only)

Team UI will now correctly display voice chat status

Additional Localization updates

Bug

A variety of crash fixes

Fixed an issue where casting bar UI remains onscreen when spectating a target who died while using an item from their inventory

Something to bear in mind, is that this patch may not install automatically. Over on Reddit, user ethxnp has presented a workaround for those who can’t seem to install the update:

This is very important. If you are finding that the update did nothing, it may have not actually installed!!!

Look next to your map in game and if you don’t see an outline of your weapons to the left of the map it may not have installed the update.

To fix this, delete and reinstall the game and you will find that the update will have been installed!

Since then I have found that the game runs much smoother and has less crashes.

This is very important as all of my friends have found that it hadn’t installed for us and we did this and it was a lot better after!

Are you playing PUBG on Xbox One? If so, how has the experience been so far? Let us know.

In other PUBG news, the Xbox One “Game Preview” version entered the UK sales charts at #4, Minkonet is providing the tech behind the new 3D replay and killcam features, and a map selection option is coming to the game at some point after launch.
