Destiny 2 The Dawning Date Announced, Brings Snowball Fights, Gifts and More

With Christmas around the corner, Bungie is making sure Destiny 2’s Guardians will be taking part in the festivities by announcing the Destiny 2 The Dawning date! There’s going to be snowball fights, special Crucible events and gifts!

Starting this December 19, and ending on January 9, 2018, the full list of activities people can expect from this event is listed below.

Snowball Fights Guardians aren’t just arming themselves with weapons. There are snowball piles everywhere you look. In the Tower and at the Farm, you can tag your friends for bragging rights. In Strikes, you can blast an enemy with a snowball to stun them and deal big damage. Stay frosty out there.

Mayhem in the Cold Keep your blood warm and your heart pumping in the Crucible. Mayhem is back, so your abilities recharge faster. Point values are cranked up enough to melt the ice. It’s anarchy—and it’s awesome.

Milestones of Winter Engage in Crucible Mayhem or become legend in Strikes and you’ll be rewarded. Every week, complete a milestone for a Dawning engram. Get in the giving mood with new consumables that give rewards to everyone you’re playing with. If there’s a specific Dawning item that you have your heart set on, Tess will refresh her inventory each week, enabling you to use your Bright Dust reserves for your holiday shopping. On one week or another during the three-week event, you’ll find every Dawning-themed exotic (ship, ghost, sparrow, emote) and every Dawning-themed legendary armor piece on her shelves.

Gifting and Receiving Pick up a Dawning Gift Schematic from the Bazaar. Venture to other worlds and craft a unique gift for the vendors and agents you find in the Tower and beyond. Then, give the lucky recipient their gift and receive a gift in return. You can participate in the season of giving every day of the event.

Players won’t miss the event seeing as the entire place will be decked with snow and decorations, as you can see in the image above.

In other Destiny 2 news, Bungie has announced that a new webcomic will also be launching next week, and will dive into the lore of Osiris. Don’t forget, Xur will be appearing later to sell his wares, but it won’t be in Mercury.

Team Ninja Possibly Teasing Dead or Alive 6

If you’re a fan of the Dead or Alive fighting franchise and have already bought all the costume packs for Dead or Alive 5 (we’re not judging you if you did), then there’s possibly some very exciting news coming your way soon, and it could be Dead or Alive 6!

Over on Twitter, Team Ninja, the studio behind the jiggly fighting game franchise, is teasing that there will be an announcement on December 17.

In case you can’t see the tweet, it reads:

Good luck to all the fighters that will be attending our Battle Royal 2017 Grand Finals event at NEC18. Make sure to stick around until the finals are over. There will be an announcement once the prizes are given to the champions on Dec. 17th. Stream info will be posted soon.

The image shows the text “I’m a Fighter,” which is the title of the final soundtrack for Dead or Alive 5. Could this be yet another costume pack for Dead or Alive 5? Maybe a new entry in the franchise? We’ll know for sure on December 17.

Do you want Dead or Alive 6? Or do you think it’s another announcement?

Report: DICE Sweden Battlefield 2018 Title Will Be in WW2 Setting, DICE LA Working on Bad Company 3

In case you haven’t been keeping tabs on the recent Battlefield news and developments, a fairly reliable leaker by the name of AlmightyDaq revealed that DICE is working on Battlefield: Bad Company 3. However, prominent Battlefield YouTuber LevelCap has refuted that and said his “sources inside” said it’s incorrect.

Well, AlmightyDaq has made another info leak, and this time, it paints a much clearer picture of what’s happening to the Battlefield franchise. In the video below, Daq mentions that DICE LA (formerly known as Danger Close responsible for Medal of Honor 2010, and Warfighter) is working on their own Battlefield game and that’s Bad Company 3. While DICE Sweden, which is the “main” studio, is working on Battlefield 2018, which we know more about of now.

Here’s a Reddit post from user WhoHereHasBeer that Daq says is the “perfect summation of the situation.”

In case the Reddit embed can’t be seen, it reads as:

I think I see what’s going on. Levelcap is basically saying, “hey, the leak is incorrect because there’s a different game coming out before BC3 in 2018” but more in kind of a douchey way. Basically just trying to discredit you and say it’s false even though he knows it technically isn’t false. Seems like something levelcap would do.

Moving on, according to Daq, the Battlefield 2018 entry will be a WW2 (World War 2) themed shooter, continuing from Battlefield 1, and “expanding” on everything that made BF1 great, and bringing it into a WW2 “atmosphere.” He adds that that DICE’s 2018 game is “visually stunning,” though is lacking in “feel” terms of the “gun game.”

All-out warfare fans will be glad to know that maps are said to be “huge,” and with improved destruction compared to BF1.

Regarding microtransactions, Daq mentioned that it will function in cosmetics only, which is the ideal scenario given the outburst from the gaming community following what happened to Star Wars Battlefront II.

Finally, Daq mentions that there’s no concrete title for DICE Sweden’s currently in development Battlefield game, though the final title has been “narrowed down to a handful.” You can check out the video of all the info here being discussed in the video below.

The tl;dr version of this all seems to be: DICE LA is working on Bad Company 3 (that won’t be released in 2018), while DICE Sweden’s Battlefield game will be WW2-themed, and due out next year. Daq is standing by his word that we WILL see Bad Company 3, though it might be a while before we do.

Once again, we’ve reached out to EA to seek a statement on the recent developments, and will update the post if and when they respond.

Would you want a WW2 Battlefield game? Or would you rather see the franchise take the Bad Company 3 route first before diving back into a historical setting? Share your thoughts and opinions in the comments below.

Crytek Suing Star Citizen Developer Cloud Imperium Due to Breach of Contract & Copyright Infringement

Crytek, the Russian studio responsible for Crysis, and owners of the CryEngine game engine, is suing Star Citizen studio Cloud Imperium Games! The lawsuit centers on the use of Crytek’s CryEngine technology in Star Citizen, and how Crytek has lowered its licensing fees for the engine in exchange for prominent display of Crytek’s trademark in Star Citizen.

Well, in case you didn’t know, Cloud Imperium is now running on Amazon’s Lumberyard engine, but the problems the two companies face aren’t over, not by a long shot. Crytek claims Chris Roberts, CIG co-founder, intentionally sought to minimize Crytek’s contribution to Star Citizen, stating that they (CIG) don’t call the game engine CryEngine anymore, but the “Star Engine.”

This downplaying of Crytek’s contributions were followed by the apparent removal of Crytek’s trademarks and copyright notices from Star Citizen, and related materials in breach of the GLA (Game License Agreement).

In addition to that, Crytek claims CIG used the CryEngine for “Squadron 42” which is the single-player portion of Star Citizen. Crytek claims that this isn’t part of the agreement since Squadron 42 is considered a separate game by the studio (Crytek).  There’s lots more to read about the lawsuit here.

Crytek is aiming to receive damages of $75,000, along with “indirect damages, consequential damages (including lost profits), special damages, costs, fees, and expenses incurred by reason of Defendants’ breach of contract and copyright infringement.” Crytek also wants a “permanent injunction” against CIG to prevent the Star Citizen makers from using any of Crytek’s copyrighted work.

Cloud Imperium Games has released a statement about the lawsuit, which you can read below.

We are aware of the Crytek complaint having been filed in the US District Court. CIG hasn’t used the CryEngine for quite some time since we switched to Amazon’s Lumberyard. This is a meritless lawsuit that we will defend vigorously against, including recovering from Crytek any costs incurred in this matter.

Once we have further updates on the lawsuit, whether each party settled on something, we’ll let you know.

Ghost Recon Wildlands Update Storms Out, Adds Predator Challenges and More

We reported yesterday that the Predator (yes, the one from the movies!) will be making his way to Ghost Recon Wildlands. Well, he’s out and terrorizing people now! Called “Jungle Storm,” this update adds a ton of new stuff into the third-person shooter, and best of all, they’re all free!

At a heft 12GB on consoles, there’s new classes, a new “ranked mode” and of course, gameplay adjustments too. Check out the patch notes below for this Ghost Recon Wildlands update.

GHOST WAR CHANGES

Ranked mode

Ranked Mode is now available in Ghost War! It is unlocked at level 15 and will challenge you to climb the ranks from Bronze to Elite. You can read everything you need to know about this new ranked mode in our FAQ article.

New classes

A new Marksman class has been added, called Pathfinder. Equipped with a crossbow, his light step does not trigger mines, he cannot be detected by Scout’s Drone motion sensor, marked by drones or the Sentinel’s Satcom Tracker. Season Pass and Ghost War Pass owners will have immediate access to the class, while the other players will be able to purchase the Pathfinder with 4000 Prestige Credits after a week, in the usual skill trees. The class can also be unlocked in the in game store against Credits.

A new Assault class has been added to the game. The Predator is a reliable and versatile frontline fighter, equipped with either an M16 rifle or the MG121 LMG. His Battle Rage ability grants him all the Adrenaline bonuses for a short time: increased health and regeneration, suppression immunity and faster revive. Season Pass and Ghost War Pass owners will have immediate access to the class, while the other players will be able to purchase the Predator with 4000 Prestige Credits after a week, in the usual skill trees. The class can also be unlocked in the in game store against Credits.

New maps

New maps are added to Quickplay, Custom games, and Ranked rotation for both Elimination and Uplink game modes. Ruins and Jungle Base are added for Elimination and Scrapyard and Urban Incursion for Uplink.

Jungle Base

A small Bolivian village supported by open fields and a central massive communication center. Jungle Base is an urban environment with surrounding foliage for flanking, and elevated areas perfect for snipers. Between the buildings and bushes there are plenty of places to hide, so make sure your team is watching your back!

Ruins

Located in the forest valley, Ruins is surrounded by trees. The middle of the map has spacious areas between buildings. Be mindful of a sniper’s gaze or an assassin’s sneaky attack.

Scrapyard

A Santa Blanca hideout used to store and move cocaine to a nearby airfield, Scrapyard is a sparse, urban style environment. The middle of the map is full of right corners, so be prepared for some close combat!

Urban Incursion

A Bolivian town on the slopes of Inca Camina, this map is a moderate density urban environment for players to enjoy urban warfare. This map offers a bit of a different style and pacing from the normal Ghost War match.

Character customization presets

Three customization presets are now available to use with each class. Every customization done on a preset slot will be instantly saved. With the addition of the presets, the full customization is only available outside a match to speed up the player ready process.

We have also added a Costumes option to character customization and 5 class packs — Tech, Sentinel, Medic, Assassin, and Enforcer.

Players Stats Page

We have added a page in game in which you can view all of your stats. Weapon stats have also been added to the Gunsmith page.

Quit penalty system

We reworked our penalty system for quitting a match while it’s still ongoing. We added strikes-outs, temporary ban penalties and warning popup to make sure the player is conscious of the sanction. The ban are going from 10 minutes to 4 hours at most and the strikes are disappearing after a 2 hours long probation without a new quit. Also, keep in mind that if you leave a match before the end, you will still receive a defeat but no victory, depending on your squad result. For more information about this system, please read our Ranked mode FAQ.

Sledgehammer Games Opens New Twitter Account to Handle Call of Duty: WWII PC Cheaters

While PCs are great for gaming given the open platform, tons of sales, and top of the line visuals, there’s also the downside of cheaters. Unarguably, it’s easier to cheat on PC than it is on consoles when it comes to multiplayer games. And one game experiencing a massive cheater infestation is Sledgehammer’s Call of Duty: WWII.

Over on Twitter, the official Sledgehammer Games account tweeted that it has opened a new Twitter account just to tackle COD: WWII PC cheaters.

If you can’t read the embedded tweet, it says:

Hey PC community, in addition to using our in-game reporting feature, you can follow our reporting account and send videos and Steam IDs here: We will continue to investigate and enforce. Thank you!

Sledgehammer might not be able to stomp out 100 percent of all cheaters on PC, but this is a good start. So if you find any cheaters when you’re playing COD: WWII on PC, don’t forget to list down their Steam IDs, and maybe capture a few seconds of footage just to prove their vileness.

Destiny 2 Webcomic Being Launch Next Week Titled “Fall of Osiris”

Can’t get enough Destiny 2 story and lore? If so, Bungie has just the thing! The studio announced that it’s launching a Destiny 2 webcomic next week called “Fall of Osiris.” The webcomic will kick off with an origin story for Ikora and Osiris.

Here’s what Margaret Stohl, Destiny 2 Narrative Director (who also writes Marvel’s The Mighty Captain Marvel) has to say:

Destiny’s first-ever original comic short is written by Eisner-winning, New York Times bestselling writer Ryan North (Dinosaur Comics, Marvel’s The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl) in collaboration with our own super talented Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris narrative lead Christine Thompson, with interior art by Destiny community fan favorite Zé Carlos. Here’s a peek at the cover, by Marcio Takara (All-New Wolverine).

Here’s the cover art for the first one.

Interested Destiny 2 fans can check out the first issue on Bungie’s site, and yes, it’ll be free.

In other Destiny 2 news, Bungie admits it made mistakes in handling content access for the game when its first expansion, Curse of Osiris, was released. The studio has since rectified it, which you can read about here.

Once the first Destiny 2 webcomic is out, we’ll be sure to let MP1st readers know.

Square Enix CEO Thinks Microtransactions Better Suited for Mobile Games Than Console Games

With how things have escalated between the gaming community and EA regarding Star Wars Battlefront II, the term “microtransactions” is a hot button topic right now — and with good reason. Most video game publishers want to implement microtransactions in their games to further bolster the title’s earning potential and revenue stream.

While this tactic has worked on mobile games — and it still does, the same can’t be said for console games. Thankfully, there’s an executive out there that doesn’t think shoehorning microtransactions into console games is a good idea. In a recent interview, Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda mentioned that he thinks microtransactions are better suited for mobile games rather than on console titles.

What people expect and want in a home console game is perhaps quite different from what people want in a mobile game. The way that console games are made, the volume of content and how much effort goes into them, there’s something in that which doesn’t fit in the mind with microtransactions.

You got that right, Mr. Square Enix CEO! Given how lawmakers are very interested in loot boxes and microtransactions now, don’t be surprised if more and more publisher lay low — for at least a while.

Do you agree with Matsuda? Or would you be OK with microtransactions in console games as long as it’s done properly (read: cosmetics only)?

Rumor: Burnout Paradise Remastered Listed at Brazilian Supplier

Remember Burnout Paradise? The open world racing game made by Criterion Games and released way back in 2008? Well, it might just be coming back a decade later.

A recent listing on a Brazilian retailer’s website hints at a possible Burnout Paradise Remastered edition. It’s set for release on March 1, 2018 (most likely a placeholder), and priced at $45 (when converted from Brazilian currency). Of course, this is in no way a confirmation, and could very well be a listing error, the supplier making a mistake on its end or something else.

We’ve reached out to EA to ask about this and will update the post if and when they respond.

For reference, the last Burnout game was Burnout Crash! for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and iOS, and was released back in 2011. Criterion Games, the studio behind the franchise, has dipped its hand in Star Wars Battlefront II, and is responsible for the Starfighter Assault mode.

Do you want to see Burnout Paradise Remastered? Or should there be a new entry in the franchise?

Battlefield 2142 Revived by Modders, Here’s How to Play It

Remember when we reported that EA sent a (rather nice) cease and desist letter to the Revive modders who were keeping old series titles like Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 playable? Well, it seems there’s now a way to play Battlefield 2142 again!

Players can go here for the full, step-by-step instructions, but basically it involves installing BF 2142 again, using gameranger.com, installing a few patches and voila! Of course it’s a little more complicated than that, but if you really want to play BF 2142, then this is your only way to do it.

What’s great here is, all unlocks are available to players right away — yes, that means no grinding! And there’s going to be one US server, and one EU server. Sorry, Asia players! You’ll have to be patient with the lag and all.

There’s also plans to run custom maps as well from the modding community (remember those?!), so you might want to install them as well to shake up the map rotation.

Will EA do something about it? I have no idea. If ever they do, we’ll be sure to update the Battlefield community ASAP.

Are you going back to 2142? How does it rank in the franchise? Share your thoughts in the comments.

In other Battlefield news, a leaker claims 2018’s Battlefield game will be Bad Company 3 — a claim YouTuber LevelCap says is “incorrect.”

Japan Now Issuing Pro Licenses to eSports Players, Here’s the First Wave of Games to Have ‘Em

There’s no denying that eSports is now a big part of gaming whether you like it or not; and now Japan has recognized how legitimate it is by starting to issue “pro licenses” to pro players starting in 2018. This is being done to bypass Japan’s strict gambling laws, so that the pros are separated from the general gaming public.

This was reported earlier today by Bloomberg reporter, Yuji Nakaumra who made the announcement on Twitter.

In case you couldn’t see the tweet, it reads:

Big e-sports news from Japan: industry to start issuing “pro licenses” to e-sports players from 2018. Goal is to bypass Japan’s strict gambling laws by separating “pros” from general public. This paves way for Japan to become e-sports powerhouse

Additionally, Twitter user HiFight also revealed the five games being issued pro licenses for and they are: Winning Eleven 2018, Street Fighter V Arcade Edition, Tekken 7, Puzzle & Dragon, Monster Strike.

Given the money involved and the betting that occurs in eSports, pro licenses are a good thing, no?

Do you approve of this and should other countries follow suit? Or is this unnecessary red tape for everyone involved?

Tekken 7 Update for Input Lag Fix Now Out, Video Shows How Much It Improved

As promised by Bandai Namco, a new Tekken 7 update is out now, and it fixes the annoying Tekken 7 input lag issue.

Sitting at a 511MB on the PlayStation 4, the update is also available on Xbox One. The patch notes just mention “Improved optimization of game performance,” and not specifically about the input lag fix. YouTuber DisplayLag made a video testing the patch, and the results are favorable!

Input Lag Data (120 frames-per-second):

Button presses: 20

Lowest lag: 9 frames

Highest lag: 11 frames

Common lag: 9 frames

Average Lag (60fps)

4.8 frames/80ms

Those not familiar with how it was before, people on Reddit mentions how it was 7.7 frames before, which is now 4.8 — that’s  almost three frames less, which is big given how everything happens so fast in fighting games.

If the patch has some unannounced feature, we’ll be sure to update the post and let people know. Tekken 7 fans, if you find that the patch nerfed or buffed a few things, or saw some changes that weren’t announced, share them in the comments below.

PS4 Update 5.03 Out Now, Brings More of What People Love

Heads up, PlayStation 4 owners, a new PS4 update (5.03) is out now, and it’s a pretty small 374MB. As per usual with unannounced system software updates, it improves system stability and performance and not much else.

Main features in version 5.03 update

  • This system software update improves system performance.

Players can down download the firmware manually to USB right here if they wish. Those who have auto-update turned on, should be downloading and applying it right now. The latest big system update was PS4 update 5.00 (Nobunaga) and was released just in October 2017. This means we’ll be getting the next major system software sometime next year. If Sony exec Shawn Layden’s hints come true, then that might bring with it, the ability for PSN IDs to be changed.

In other Sony-related news, Sony just wrapped up their annual PlayStation Experience event, and you can read our coverage of it right here. The big PSN holiday sale is also up, and it has a TON of games discounted.

Nintendo Ramping Up Mobile Game Development

With Nintendo striking gold with Pokemon Go and Super Mario Run on mobile, it seems the company is aiming to have more Nintendo mobile games out sooner rather than later.

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Nintendo wants to work with more mobile game studios to release more mobile games given the company’s tardiness in capitalizing in the mobile game craze.

While Nintendo has a 10 percent stake at mobile game studio DeNA (Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Super Mario Run), it’s not looking to replicate that same business structure now. The report claims Nintendo spoke with GungHo (Ragnarok Online) given the two companies have already collaborated before with Mario characters appearing in GungHo’s Puzzle & Dragons for the 3DS.

To date, there’s no definite news on which companies Nintendo has spoken to, or if there’s any movement in this new initiative. Once we know more, we’ll let our mobile multiplayer readers know.

What Nintendo games do you want to play on mobile? Is this a good idea by Nintendo or should they focus on the Nintendo Switch instead?

Marvel Contest of Champions for Mobile Has over 122 Million Downloads, Fan Fave Characters Listed

You know those times when people are quick to say that traditional (read: console and PC) gaming is dead due to mobile gaming? While that’s not true at all, stats about mobile games are so eye-poppingly huge that it’s no wonder that more and more developers are opting for the mobile gaming route. One of these said games? Kabam’s Marvel Contest of Champions.

Released back in 2014 as a free-to-play mobile fighting game featuring Marvel characters, the game has now skyrocketed to over 122 million downloads! This was revealed Quest Designers Scott Bradford and Dominc O’Grady on Marvel’s site (via ResetEra), where the game’s third anniversary is being celebrated with an interview.

Marvel.com: And how many people are currently partaking in the Marvelous melee you all have cooked up?

Dominic O’Grady: A small few, over 122 million of them; no big deal, right? We’re honored to have such a massive and passionate crowd of Summoners on this journey with us, and we’re all beyond excited to go into year [four]: A year with many, many more surprises waiting ahead!

There’s a new trailer for the game out as well, which you can watch below. Additionally, O’Gray revealed the top characters used by fans, and he managed to reveal the top five, which might surprise some.

Dominic O’Grady: There are many fan favorites! With 112 Champions now, it can be tough to figure out who the most [favorite] is, however we do have a list of the most used Champions in The Contest based on their rarity. Experienced Summoners might not be surprised to find that they’re all some of the oldest Champions in the game, too!

  • 1-Star: Spider-Man – Spidey is one of the first Champions most Summoners will acquire, no secret in The Contest, but he’s still a fan favorite at nearly every level.
  • 2-Star: Wolverine – You can’t keep a good mutant down, and Wolverine is a well-rounded character with solid damage, the ability to heal himself, and packs in some good bleed damage, too!
  • 3-Star: Colossus – Every team needs a tank, and few are better at it than Colossus. His immunity to bleeding and massive defensive potential make him a great pick for up-and-coming Summoners.
  • 4-Star: Scarlet Witch – It’s no surprise that Scarlet Witch is a favorite here. Even with a few tweaks made to her kit, she’s a character with a ton of potential and a lot of surprises in her random buff/debuff roulette.
  • 5-Star: Star-Lord – Oh Peter, whatever will we do with you? For pro players, it’s hard to beat Star-Lord’s signature skill; the longer your combo, the more damage he does! Plus he’s got a pretty cool gun.

If you like Marvel Contest of Champions, you ought to read up on the entire interview. I admit, I haven’t even tried Contest of Champions, but I might give it a go later. I mean, 122 million people can’t be wrong, right?
