Destiny 2 Xur Won’t Be Appearing on Mercury, Bungie Confirms

With the latest brouhaha regarding Bungie’s handling of content access on Destiny 2 (namely, how vanilla owners got shafted for past free content), Bungie has announced that Xur won’t be at Mercury this Friday.

This was announced by Destiny “Player Support” dmg04 on Twitter just today.

In case you can’t read that, it says:

Xûr will not be making an appearance on Mercury. Far to bright for his liking. Keep an eye out on Friday for your favorite snake faced vendor.

This is definitely good news as having the hooded vendor on Mercury would mean that non-DLC owners won’t be able to get their weekly dose of Exotics.

Let’s hope this is a recurring theme for Bungie moving forward with the community and Destiny 2.

In other Destiny 2 news, don’t forget to check the weekly reset, and for those who are slaying using the Prometheus Lens in PvP, better make the most of it since Bungie will be nerfing it hard.

Beerus, Hit and Goku Black Confirmed for Dragon Ball FighterZ Roster

It appears that the rumors that were circulating around the internet about the upcoming roster additions for Dragon Ball FighterZ are true after all. It appears that Beerus, Hit and Goku Black are indeed confirmed to be joining the Dragon Ball FighterZ roster. To accompany this latest roster announcement, it seems that we also get to find out a bit of information regarding each of these fighters’ attacks and abilities.

For instance, Hit ,just like in the manga and TV show, will utilize his unique Time Skip technique allowing him to attack his opponent for a fraction of a second. As for Beerus, it seems that the God of Destruction of Universe 7 will be equipped with techniques allowing him to either release Ki blast in every direction from his body. Or, just simply shooting out a long range beam from his finger.

Finally, for the third announced character Goku Black, he will borrow a page from the androids, as he will have Zamasu as a support who will be able to hold characters in place for Goku Black. Aside from having a support, it seems Goku Black will also use his ki to make an energy-based scythe.

New character additions aside, it appears that Dragon Ball FighterZ will also feature an interesting mechanic that includes Shenron. Where if players are doing combos, they slowly start to gather the Dragon Balls and upon gathering all seven of them they get to summon the eternal dragon from Earth who will grant one of the following abilities:

  • Fully recover your health
  • Revive a fellow teammate
  • Gradually recover hp over time
  • Able to perform a fully charge ki blast

If this feature does make it to the game, hopefully it’s just used in the story mode and not during multiplayer, as it might slow fights against human opponents and make the gameplay a bit clunky.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is set to launch January 26 for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

A Way Out Director Josef Fares Explains His Rant at The Game Awards

The Game Awards is often described by many as the Oscars of video games; a way of validating the awards show as something that should be taken seriously for what it represents for the gaming industry. For many, this validation of the art, of the field, is crucial for the future of video games. For others, such as the writer and director of A Way Out Josef Fares, The Game Awards doesn’t need that validation.

As Fares stated during his bombast on The Game Awards late last week, “the Oscars should fuck themselves up, this is the shit. I’m telling you — this is, this is the real shit.” The rant went viral but left many bewildered as to why Fares had such a disdain for the Academy Awards, as well as if the developer lamented what he said.

To find out, Polygon reached out to Fares for a phone interview to pick the brain of the passionate developer.

I can’t change who I am, it’s very hard to control. When I get excited, it’s like — it’s hard to control. Like, it’s almost like: In my head I want to say something, but my mouth, it kind of, like, takes out everything.

“I mean, I would probably do the same thing now,” Fares continued, standing by his words and showing no regret.

When asked why he continued to call out the Oscars, Fares said that people need to stop treating The Game Awards like it’s the Academy Awards, and that “it’s time for people to understand that games are, like, a serious art.”

This sentiment that people don’t consider video games to be art or at least serious art has been decades in the making. Many people not familiar with the gaming industry, its artists, designers, producers, developers, etc., believe that video games are nothing but child’s play.

However, that attitude has been dwindling, as illustrated by a awards show that, as host and creator of The Game Awards Geoff Keighley says, had more than three times as many viewers as last years rendition.

Ghost Recon PvP Mode to Have an Event Featuring the Predator! Watch the Trailer Now

In your “WTF” news of the day, Ubisoft has announced that the Predator — yes, the one in the movies — will be making its way to Ghost Recon Wildlands’ PvP mode, Ghost War! This free update is called “Jungle Storm,” and will launch tomorrow (December 14) with an exclusive Predator challenge, and a new Predator-inspired Ghost War class.

Partnering with FoxNet and celebrating the 30th anniversary of the original Predator movie, the Jungle Storm update will also add new gameplay updates and gear to the base game. Check out the trailer below to see this special event in action!

FREE PREDATOR SPECIAL CHALLENGE

Starting December 14 until early January, all players of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands will be able to face the Predator in the game’s ultimate hunt. This new Special Challenge is playable solo or in up to four-player co-op is the most difficult fight of all.

PREDATOR CUSTOMIZATION ITEMS

Upon defeating the Predator, players will be rewarded with exclusive items such as the Predator mask with a new, exclusive Predator vision. In addition to rewards for completing the challenge, players can further customize and arm their Ghosts with the Predator Pack, which includes 15 new customization items, weapons and an exclusive close combat move, to recreate some of the most memorable characters from the original movie.

PREDATOR INSPIRED GHOST WAR PVP CLASS

The new Ghost War class inspired by main character Dutch from the original Predator movie will allow offensive players to engage in Battle Rage mode, a new alternative to create strategies and tactics on the PvP battleground. Ghost War players will be able to access the new class through the Ghost War Pass or the Season Pass, or by using their Prestige Points directly.

This is definitely a very weird, but very awesome addition by Ubisoft. I might just hop in to see how the Predator kick ass…or try to take him down, I guess.

Will any of you be jumping in to check out the Jungle Storm update tomorrow? Once the free update is out, we’ll be sure to let readers know, so keep your crosshairs locked in to MP1st.

Nintendo Switch Sales Figures Show the Console Soaring to 10 Million Units in 9 Months

It was only several months ago that we reported that the Nintendo Switch sold through five million units and it now appears that figure has doubled according to a tweet by Nintendo of America.

The Nintendo Switch sales figures are not unexpected given the high demand for the handheld console that the holidays produced. What is surprising are the numbers when compared to Nintendo‘s previous console the WiiU, which sold a shockingly low 13.56 million units during its entire lifecycle.

If you’re one of the 10 million people to have purchased the Nintendo Switch, we’d recommend picking up Pysonix’s Rocket League, a game we deemed to be the best multiplayer title currently available in our review.

YouTuber LevelCap Says Battlefield 2018 Won’t Be Bad Company 3 According to His Sources

Just the other day, we posted a story on how someone on YouTube named AlmightyDaq leaked that the next Battlefield game will be none other than Battlefield: Bad Company 3. While we usually don’t post every rumor, this one has a bit more merit, given Daq leaked details about Battlefield 1 months before its official reveal.

Now, before anyone gets too excited, another YouTuber has responded and said that this it not true! Prominent Battlefield YouTuber LevelCap has made a video listing his Battlefield 2018 wishlist, and in the first part of the video, he mentions how he thinks AlmightyDaq’s info is not true since he has a few “sources inside” that said the info (BC3) is incorrect. Check out LevelCap saying it below (it’s literally the first topic he touches on in the video).

We’re in a weird spot here. Could it be  a case of LevelCap’s sources trying to bamboozle him? Maybe it’s not titled “Bad Company 3” but it’s a spiritual successor? Lots of stuff are still in the air, and the only people who knows for sure are from EA and DICE.

We’ve asked EA to give a statement on the rumor, and once we hear back, we’ll be sure to let readers know.

What do you think? Would you want Bad Company 3 or something else entirely for 2018? Which person do you think has the more accurate info, LevelCap or AlmightDaq?

Star Wars Battlefront II Update Adds The Last Jedi Content: New Heroes, Campaign DLC and More

It’s finally here! DICE’s latest Star Wars Battlefront II title update is here, and it adds the The Last Jedi season 1 content! Clocking in at a hefty 10.3GB on the PlayStation 4, the title update adds a LOT of new stuff.

We already know that new Heroes such as Finn and Captain Phasma are being added, but there’s also campaign DLC called “Resurrection,” a new map for Galactic Assault and Starfighter Assault, and of course, game balance tweaks and adjustments. Check out the complete patch notes below (via the Battlefront official forums).

NEW HEROES: FINN AND PHASMA
Introducing two new heroes!
– Finn joins the Resistance. A skilled soldier, Finn now uses his training to protect his allies at any cost. Finn charges into battle and deals precise damage blazingly fast to any enemies who dare stand in the way.
– And then we have the imposing commanding officer of the First Order: Captain Phasma. Few are more feared than Captain Phasma as she uses every tool at her disposal to ensure victory.

NEW CAMPAIGN DLC: RESURRECTION
Iden Versio is back in the Resurrection DLC! She is searching for answers, while the secrets of a First Order conspiracy are revealed. This DLC contains three new campaign chapters that continue Iden’s saga in the Star Wars universe.

NEW MAP: CRAIT (Galactic Assault)
On the mineral planet Crait, the First Order has trapped a group of Resistance fighters at what was once a Rebel Alliance outpost. You’ll see the First Order escorting the massive AT-M6 while Resistance fighters in ski-speeders attempt to stop them.

NEW MAP: D’QAR (Starfighter Assault)
As you recall from The Force Awakens, D’Qar is the principal base of the Resistance. Now experience an incredible space battle over that planet as the First Order attacks, threatening to wipe out the base, and the Resistance, once and for all.

HERO SHIP AND HERO SHIP UPGRADE
To spice up the space battle, we have also launched a new hero ship – Tallie Lintra’s RZ-2 A-wing. For Poe Dameron, there is a new hero ship upgrade for his T-70 X-wing.

Below you will find a list of balance tweaks and changes for many of the Heroes – we will continue to monitor the state of balance across all Heroes and Classes to further improve gameplay balancing.

We sure hope you will enjoy the new content and the improvements. We will do our best to keep you all updated on all coming improvements. If you have feedback on the game, please post on our forums!

Titanfall 2 Future Update to Be Called “Operation Endeavor” and Will Be Out December 19

In what’s likely the last game update for Titanfall 2 for 2017, Respawn Entertainment has a new blog post up detailing the Titanfall 2 future update plans.

Called “Operation Endeavor,” the big changes here include the Grapple skill ability being two charges again, new Elite weapon warpaints for sale, new holiday banners, featured modes, and a few tweaks as well. Check out the new additions and more below.

Elite Weapon Warpaints

We once again have six weapons, the Double Take, Cold War, DMR, R-201, R-97, and the G2 all getting their Elite Warpaint treatment. Like before, Pick these up as a bundle for 19.99 USD or individually for 4.99 USD.

Holiday Banners

A normal and a Prism version of the banners have been added.

Upcoming Featured Modes

  • Turbo LTS – Last Titan Standing gametype with double core generation and dash regen rates. Everyone also has Turbo Engine kit.
  • Spicy Attrition – Attrition where everyone’s Ordnance ability is replaced with Ticks.
  • The Otherside – All Phase Attrition.
  • Rocket Arena – Live Fire with modified EPGs and autopistols.
  • Turbo Titan Brawl – Titan Brawl with double core generation and dash regen rates. Everyone also has Turbo Engine kit.

Patch Notes:

  • Grapple has been reverted back to two charges
    • After changing grapple to one charge, we did see a small shift in tacticals players chose. However, it still is by far the most commonly picked tactical and trying to change that status quo would require adjustments that would diminish a mechanic that we and many players love. Because the earlier change was not driven by balance concerns, we’re happy to revert Grapple back to its previous state of two charges. Swing away!
  • G2 now drifts upwards as you shoot (console only)
  • Minor optimizations for X1X and PS4 Pro

That’s about it for this Titanfall 2 update. Are you still playing Titanfall 2? How’s the player base for each platform like these days? Once the actual patch is out, we’ll be sure to let readers know.

On Wednesday December 13th, Star Wars Battlefront II servers will go offline for up to 60 minutes (each platform) to apply our Season 1 patch update. Scheduled downtime is listed below; we apologize in advance for any inconveniences.

December 13:
Schedule Patches (platform starts):
08:00 UTC PC (12:00 AM PT / 3:00 AM ET)
09:00 UTC PS4 (1:00 AM PT / 4:00 AM ET)
10:00 UTC X1 (2:00 AM PT / 5:00 AM ET)

Full patch notes will be posted once the update is live.

The moment the full patch notes are up, we’ll be sure to let Star Wars Battlefront II readers know. Here’s to hoping there’s finally a fix for AFK farmers that are ruining matches.

PUBG Xbox One Version Offers Competitive Advantage Over Xbox One X

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is now available on Xbox One and Xbox One X. The guys over at DigitalFoundry have done their usual technical analysis of the game, focusing on visuals and frame-rate.

PUBG is tough to run on even the most high-end PCs, with optimization presumably still being worked on by the developers, so it’s expected that performance on the consoles is just as inconsistent.

As identified by DigitalFoundry, and anyone else playing with their eyes open, the target of 30fps is frequently missed, with frame-rates dipping down to lows of around 15fps.

You can watch the full analysis below:

What I’d like to draw special attention to, is when DF mentions the “significantly improved” draw distances on Xbox One X (at 5:50 in the video).

PC players, when they’re trying their darnedest to win, will often lower settings to the absolutely minimum, primarily to get the highest frame-rates, but to also provide a clearer image.

When you’re hunting for an enemy in the distance, you actually want a lower draw distance. On low PC settings, I often come across players who think they are crawling through grass, when in fact the grass hasn’t appeared for me, making them easy prey. This advantage becomes even more significant when looking down from a high vantage point.

So while the Xbox One X boasts better draw distances, the standard Xbox One turns what is seemingly a weakness, into a strength.

Xbox One X players, watch out!

Ark: Aberration New Expansion Is Now Live, Here’s Everything You Need to Know

Ark: Survival Evolved has received its second expansion pack, Aberration, which brings a host of new content to the game. Players will face new combat challenges and environmental hazards, face new enemies with unique items, and more.

The expansion is now live on all supported platforms: PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Price-wise, Aberration will cost $20 as a standalone purchase, however, Season Pass owners will get the expansion at no additional cost. Owners of the Season Pass will also get some exclusive in-game Aberration-themed cosmetic item skins.

Here’s everything players can expect to find in the Aberration expansion:

Waking up on ‘Aberration’, a derelict, malfunctioning ARK with an elaborate underground biome system, survivors face exotic new challenges unlike anything before: extreme radioactive sunlight and environmental hazards, ziplines, wingsuits, climbing gear, cave dwellings, charge-batteries, and far more, along with a stable of extraordinary new creatures await within the mysterious depths. But beware the ‘Nameless’: unrelenting, Element-infused humanoids which have evolved into vicious light-hating monstrosities! On Aberration, survivors will uncover the ultimate secrets of the ARKs, and discover what the future holds in store for those strong and clever enough to survive!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3lX_yz1ORw

AN ARK GONE AWRY

Aberration places survivors on a damaged ARK: its internal atmosphere has leaked away, resulting in a harsh surface with intense radiation, and a plethora of lush biomes underground. With the maintenance systems of this ARK malfunctioning, the many hazards, creatures, and nature of the environment present a thrilling new world to explore and master.

TAME NEW CREATURES

The intense radiation of Aberration has led to incredible genetic mutations, resulting in new creatures with amazing abilities! Among others, clamber up walls & glide through the air on the back of a camouflaging chameleon-like ‘Rock Drake’, keep the dark at bay with a friendly ‘Lantern Pug’, grab and toss multiple creatures simultaneously with a massive ‘Cave Crustacean’, or — if you are talented enough to tame one — command the vile ‘Nameless Queen’ to impregnate your foes with a horrifying reproductive chest-burster!

CRAFT OVER 50 NEW ITEMS

New tools are on-hand to survive on the world of Aberration, while opening up many possibilities for new competitive and cooperative scenarios. Traverse the ARK using cave-climbing picks, gliding wingsuits, and ziplines. Learn advanced engrams to dominate the harsh environment, protect yourself with hazmat outfits, charge lanterns, explosive rounds, batteries, glowsticks, railguns and much more. Thrive by gathering new resources, using fishing baskets, gas collectors, fortify your home within the caverns using cliff structures, and much more!

CONQUER NEW CHALLENGES

Earthquakes, radiation exposure, gas leaks, and Element chambers are among the many hazards that survivors will learn to grapple with Aberration’s varied biomes, both aboveground and below the surface. But among the greatest challenges on this ruined ARK is the hierarchy of unrelenting Nameless, requiring constant vigilance & Charge Energy to defend against! And in the deepest depths of Aberration, their terrifying — yet somehow familiar — master awaits… will YOU be among the survivors powerful enough to face him?

Will you be diving into the latest Ark expansion? Let us know.
