Kickstarter Launches for Japanese Creators, Projects Now Live & Ready to Back

Kickstarter has officially opened its doors to Japanese creators. That means we’ll be seeing a whole new range of products influenced by Japanese culture!

All that’s needed to apply is a Japanese bank account and identification. The Kickstarter site and mobile apps have also been overhauled with new language support. There’s also customer support and project review in Japanese. This is the true, full Kickstarter experience, now available to Japanese creators.

Artists, authors, filmmakers, musicians, designers, and creators of all types can now launch projects and find support from Kickstarter’s global community of backers.

Japanese culture embodies a spirit of creativity and a tradition of innovation — characteristics that run deep within Kickstarter, too. Since our launch eight years ago, more than 300 creators in Japan have worked with collaborators in other countries to run Kickstarter projects, including a documentary about sake productionan action platformer from a legendary video game designer, and a toy robot that connects family members through voice messages. In the same time frame, nearly 100,000 backers from Japan have supported Kickstarter projects from all of our creative categories and from all over the world. Today we’re honored to build on this strong foundation by officially welcoming all creators from to Japan to join our community.

Happy to see Kickstarter evolve to include more creators from more parts of the world?

PSA: Destiny 2 Raid Is Now Live, Party up and Face the Leviathan

It is now time to face the Destiny 2 Leviathan Raid! This is the first big challenge that players will face, and requires a Power Level between 260 and 280.

If you have managed to achieve 260+, you’ll be able to grab five of your friends and take on the Raid!

As for what the Leviathan Raid entails, we have no idea. You’ll likely find new puzzles that require a lot of trial and error to solve, and the toughest enemies in the game.

With that said, we do have some details on the Leviathan:

The Leviathan was a massive intelligent creature that resided deep within the ocean of the gas giant Fundament long ago. It was a disciple of the Traveler, and aided in imprisoning the five Worm Gods within the planet’s core. When the proto-Hive sisters Xi Ro, Sathona, and Aurash dove into Fundament’s depths in search of a secret that would prevent the Syzygy, an alignment of the gas giant’s fifty-two moons that would create a global tidal wave of catastrophic proportions, the Leviathan met them. Communicating with magnetic fields, it attempted to persuade them to return to the surface and follow the way of the Traveler and the Light, warning them against the seduction of the Deep, but the sisters rejected its pleas because it offered no way to end their species’ suffering and avert the Syzygy.

Later, after the sisters had made a pact with the Worms, becoming the Hive and ravaging Fundament, the Leviathan tried to escape the planet’s surface and take shelter with the Ammonites of Fundament’s moons. The Ammonites sent their best forces to protect the Leviathan, whom they revered almost as much as the Traveler, but the Hive saw this as an opportunity. In one fell swoop, the Hive slew the Leviathan and destroyed the Ammonite civilization, forcing the Traveler to flee for its safety. The Leviathan’s corpse was fed to the Worm Gods Eir and Yul.

Sounds pretty menacing! Will you be taking on the Raid?

EA: Gaming’s Move From Ownership to Subscription Model Is Inevitable

According to EA’s VP of investor relations Chris Evenden, gaming is going to end up like Spotify and Netflix, moving from traditional ownership of content, to a subscription model.

The change is “inevitable,” with gaming following the way that “the music and video entertainment worlds have already moved.”

Evenden said all this while speaking at the Deutsche Bank Technology Conference.

“We’ve been building an infrastructure both from a product and a marketing perspective so we can move our slate across to new platforms, and we can move with our games across to new platforms as well,” Evenden said. “So all of these things, we’ve been working on for five or more years now, actually. But I think it’s inevitable that the gaming entertainment world will move in much the same way that the music and video entertainment worlds have already moved, in the sense that people have moved from an ownership model to an access model. And you’ll see that in gaming, just as you’ve seen it with Spotify and Netflix in other media businesses.”

He continued to explain how the subscription model results in a much lower cost of entry for new customers. It’s less of an investment, less of a risk, and should attract more people.

“Right now if you want to play FIFA in the United States, it will cost you $460,” Evenden said. “You have to buy the game; you have to buy the console. In a streaming world, it could be $9.99 a month. The commercial details have to be worked out, but whatever number it ends up at is very much less than $460. So that extends your market, because all you need locally is literally a smart TV.”

Can you imagine a world in which a TV is all you need? What about going from owning all of your games, to subscribing to multiple collections for all of your virtual needs?

Blizzard Charity Pet “Shadow” Added to World of Warcraft, Helps Support Disaster Relief Efforts

A new Blizzard charity pet has been added to World of Warcraft. “Shadow” the fox can now be found in the in-game store, priced at $10. Warcraft players who choose to adopt the little guy, will also be helping to support disaster relief efforts.

Blizzard has released Shadow ahead of Blizzcon 2017, due to “recent natural disasters around the world,” and the “immediacy of the events, including Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, flooding in South Asia, and countless other crises, [which] have shown [they] need to act now.”

Here’s where the donations are going:

Blizzard will donate to the American Red Cross and IFRC 100% of sales for every charity pet sold between September 12, 2017 and December 31st, 2017. Proceeds will be split equally between both organizations. This purchase is not tax deductible.

Blizzard is helping people affected by disasters big and small by making a gift to American Red Cross Disaster Relief and supporting international disaster response by supporting the IFRC Disaster Relief Emergency Fund.

As for Shadow the fox, here’s all the details about your (potential!) new companion:

The Foxiest Pet in Your Collection

Lost on Argus and overtaken by darkness, this playful fox can shrug off the void just by being by your side. With its adorably oversized ears, it’ll be at your side, trotting through every battle. At the end of the day, curl up next to this cuddly canidae and admire its color-changing coat with its light and shadow effects. It’s yours to keep.

Ready to be unleashed!

Shadow the fox will be yours immediately after completing your purchase. No papers to sign, and it’s already had all its shots!

Everyone gets one!

Once it’s activated, Shadow will be applied to all present and future characters on a single Blizzard Account. It will appear in each character’s pet and mount journal.

Always up for a fight

You can use Shadow in pet battles, the fast and fun combat game in World of Warcraft that grants rewards and opens up daily quests.

Shadow looks like a cool little dude. Will you be picking it up and helping to support the cause?

Destiny 2 Racist Gauntlets Getting Fixed, Bear Striking Similarities to White Supremacist Symbol

Just what are “Destiny 2 racist gauntlets”? Well, they are the “Road Complex AA1” gauntlets, which bear a design that is worryingly similar to the “KEK” logo found on the Kekistan flag. This symbol has become a popular white supremacist symbol.

Bungie identified the problem and has been working to fix it, as expressed in the following tweets:

Bungie states that “it is not intentional,” but man, it looks a little too similar to me. (You can find the symbol yourself through the Google search engine.)

Anyway, at least Bungie has acknowledged the problem and is making moves to eradicate it.

In other (happier) Destiny 2 update 1.03 is out now, fixing a bunch of problems and introducing “Guided Games.”news,

Destiny 2 Patch 1.03 Now Out, Adds Guided Games and Balance Tweaks

As part of yesterday’s hours-long Destiny 2 server maintenance, Bungie has also rolled out a Destiny 2 update (1.03) that’s not only big in size, but also adds a new feature. No doubt this is in part to kick off the upcoming Raid, which should mean Bungie will have all hands on deck to make sure everything is working smoothly.

Before you can download the hefty 4.75GB file, there’s a hotfix that also rolled out on Bungie’s backend. Check out the short notes for it below.

1.0.1.2 The one about Clan rosters.

Clans
  • Fixed an issue that caused Clan Rosters to not be displayed in game
Items
  • Fixed an issue that caused players to not receive MIDA Mini-Tool when they have a full weapon inventory
    • Players can obtain their missing MIDA Mini-Tool from Devrim Kay
General
  • Fixed a rare memory leak that would result in a crash

Full Destiny 2 patch 1.03 patch notes aren’t here yet, but we’ll update the post to reflect it once Bungie releases it. As for “Guided Games,” it’s Bungie’s way of making players more at ease with Destiny 2’s end-game content. We’ll know for sure if it works or doesn’t work, in the weeks to come.

For more on Destiny 2, make sure to check out our top five PvP tips, the recommended power level for end-game stuff, and our latest feature on the best Easter eggs we’ve seen so far.

Windows 10 Game Stutter Acknowledged by Microsoft, Fix Incoming

This past April, Microsoft rolled out the Windows 10 Creators Update that fortunately, brought with it, a stuttering problem that plagued games. Over on Microsoft’s support page, engineer Paul Aaron posted a message acknowledging the Microsoft 10 game stutter issue and mentioned that a fix is underway.

Hello everyone,

Thanks to all of you who provided feedback and submitted traces via the Feedback app.  We’ve been reviewing the traces and have identified an issue that we believe is the cause of stuttering in some of the cases that you’ve reported.  We have a fix in the Windows Insider build that flighted to the “Fast” ring this week (build 16273 and above).  If you are already an Insider please test it with any app or game you’re having this problem with and let us know how it goes.  If you want to test it out and you’re not an Insider yet you can find instructions on joining the Windows 10 Insider Program here: https://insider.windows.com/en-us/how-to-pc/.

Again, If its works, let us know here – if it doesn’t submit another Feedback item using the same steps as above.  You’re feedback on this change and the Insiders build will help us evaluate the fix so we that can decide if it should be released for the current version of Windows 10.

And thanks again for everyone who provided feedback and traces – we are listening and you’re helping us figure it out.

Some users (via MSPoweruser) mentioned a workaround saying that some gamers are reporting that disabling the Xbox Game DVR feature fixes the issue, though its not working for everyone. At the very least, you can test it out.

We’ll provide an update once Microsoft rolls out or announces a fix.

Ever wanted to play Super Mario 64 with friends? Well, thanks to modder Kaze Emanuar, now you can! Entitled Super Mario 64 Online, the mod features classic Mario characters battling it out to finish levels in the quickest time. What’s especially cool, is that each character controls differently.

Check out the trailer below for a good idea of what the mod is all about:

Here’s the link for the download, if you want to give it a try.

If you struggle getting the mod to work, the creator recommends you watch the tutorial video, confident that “it can work for everyone.”

“If it doesn’t work for you, try watching the tutorial. I’m sure it can work for everyone, as we hadn’t had a single problem getting it to run with over 30 people involved in the testing. If it still doesn’t, you can try going to the discord and asking for help. ive already gotten over 600 messages and i’m not gonna sit here for 48 hours and answer them all.”

This mod looks like great fun with friends, while still offering the nostalgia that playing Super Mario 64 always brings!

Will you be giving it a go?

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Initial Sales Estimates Were “200,000 [or] 300,000” for the First Year, Greene Reveals

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has now sold over 10 million copies, performing better than anyone could have predicted. This includes the creator Brendan Greene, who in an interview with Polygon, revealed that sales estimates were originally “200,000 [or] 300,000 the first year.”

“A lot of the [internal team], they really couldn’t believe it … There was a few veterans of the game industry that were [saying], like, ‘No, no. 200,000 [or] 300,000 the first year.'”

Greene went on to say that, while he was confident that the game would do well, he never would have thought that it would grow this quickly:

“You know, I had faith in my own game mode… but [10] million copies and number one on Steam in just under five months I think we’re at now? It’s just crazy to me.”

It’s incredible to see a game doing so brilliantly, and it will only get better when it comes to Xbox One, and possibly other consoles.

Destiny 2 Raid Recommended Power Level Revealed, Go Get Grinding!

Those wondering what Power level you need to be in Destiny 2 in order to take on the Raid, now have an answer. Bungie developer Luke Smith tweeted it out rather casually, simply stating that it ranges from 260-280.

As for what the Raid will entail, we’ve had a hint. Here’s what the (possible spoilers) potential boss could be:

“The Leviathan was a massive intelligent creature that resided deep within the ocean of the gas giant Fundament long ago.

“Later, after the sisters had made a pact with the Worms, becoming the Hive and ravaging Fundament, the Leviathan tried to escape the planet’s surface and take shelter with the Ammonites of Fundament’s moons. The Leviathan’s corpse was fed to the Worm Gods Eir and Yul.”

Will you be ready for when the first Destiny 2 Raid drops this Friday?
