PUBG to Get “3D Voice Positioning”

With PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) massive success, that means its flaws will get scrutinized more often than if it was a “small” game. One chief complaint some players have is with how to communicate with teammates; whether it’s their position, enemy points and whatnot.

Enter: Vivox. Bluehole has announced that the game is introducing Vivox’s positional 3D audio communications in PUBG. Basically, if a person is next to your right ear in the game world, they will sound close to you when they speak. If someone is farther away, the audio will represent it accordingly, too.

Vivox is the same tech used by Ubisoft in Rainbow Six Siege, which is must given that title’s strategic, slow-paced gameplay.

If you’re playing PUBG, will you use this? How do you communicate with your teammates in terms of distances and spacing?

Call of Duty: WWII PS4 Limited Edition Bundle Announced, Is in Camo

With Sony and Activision’s partnership with everything Call of Duty, it’s expected that exclusive marketing deals, bundles and more would be part of the package. Today, Sony announced the Call of Duty: WWII Limited Edition PS4 Bundle, and it’s something.

Sporting a green camo paint for the console, and a green DualShock 4, it’s definitely not for everyone, I think. Check out the images of the console and controller in the gallery below.

[ngg_images source=”galleries” container_ids=”10″ display_type=”photocrati-nextgen_basic_imagebrowser” ajax_pagination=”1″ template=”default” order_by=”sortorder” order_direction=”ASC” returns=”included” maximum_entity_count=”500″]

The Call of Duty: WWII Limited Edition PS4 Bundle will retail for $299.99 and will be out the same day as the game on November 3.

Not really sure how to feel about that. Would you spring $300 for your PS4 to have that kind of design?

In other COD: WWII news, make sure to check out our PS4 private beta impressions to see what we make of it so far.

The Division Free Weekend Now Live on PC, Next Update Dated and Detailed

If you still haven’t given Ubisoft’s The Division a shot (why haven’t you?), you can do so today, September 14, until this Sunday, September 17, on PC. You can access The Division free weekend at the following times:

  • From September 14th 7pm CEST to September 17th 10pm CEST
  • Pre-load will be available on Uplay PC starting September 12th 6pm CEST.

If you like what you played, you can buy the full game from Ubisoft’s store for 60 percent off the total price, and your progress from the free trial will carry over to the final game.

Also of note, the “State of the Game” happened earlier today, and Ubisoft’s Community Developer Hamish Bode, along with a few developers, talked about update 1.7.1 and beyond. Some key points can be seen below.

Hot Topics

Update 1.7.1

  • Will be released next Tuesday (September 19th) for all platforms
  • It will fix the RMP Glitch
  • The jamming of the semi-automatic sniper rifles will be addressed
  • Some de-synchronization problems between server and client will also be fixed

Second Ban wave

  • A second ban wave has gone out and a third one is already prepared

Update 1.8 PTS

  • Will Start September 26th – the week before the Global Event starts.
  • As before it will be free for PC
  • When you were invited on console for the last PTS, you will have access to the 1.8 PTS – you will only get an update
  • They will also invite more player on top of the already invited players – but they have not yet finalized the invitation criteria.
  • Also make sure that you have selected the box that allows Ubisoft to send you emails on your Uplay account – when that box is not selected, you will not get an invitation, because they are not allowed to send you emails

Global Event 2 – Assault

  • The next Global Event “Assault” will start on October 3rd.
  • The theme of this event will be proximity to the enemy. Enemies will do less damage the closer you are to them and they will do additional damage the further away you are, so make sure to get up close and personal!
  • Assault will introduce the classified versions of the Striker’s Battlegear, Sentry’s Call and Reclaimer gear sets and following the conclusion of the event, these classified sets will become available in the general loot pool of the game.

Once The Division update 1.7.1 is out next week, we’ll be sure to let our readers know, along with any pertinent changes made.

Cliff Belszinksi: I Have to Keep LawBreakers “Alive,” PS4 Version “Doing Fine”

It’s no secret that Boss Key Production’s LawBreakers is struggling right now to hold on its paltry player base. As of the time of this writing, the 24-hour peak is at just a 184 on Steam, which is very low — especially if you consider it hasn’t even been out for more than 30 days.

LawBreakers‘ lack of immediate success hasn’t been lost on Boss Key head honcho, Cliff Bleszinski. In an interview with GameSpot, Bleszinski talked a fair bit about the low LawBreakers player count, how launching near Destiny 2 season didn’t help, and more.

First off. Cliff Bleszinksi says the PS4 version of LawBreakers is “doing fine,” and compares how PC players see success compared to console players.

There is a situation where players look at numbers on Steam; that doesn’t happen on PlayStation 4. I don’t have the numbers in front of me, but you look at PC, [concurrent user] health versus PS4, PS4 is doing fine.

People cough up 30 bucks and hop online and they don’t overthink it. On PC there is you wanting to declare something a success or a bomb by this internet culture that loves to just observe things. But it’s like, guys, you know, the small bit [of players] that we have, we’re going to continue to iterate and engage. As we issue content drops, maybe there’s going to be sales or potential free weekends down the line, continue to fluff that CCU up.

Bleszinski adds that what’s happening to LawBreakers has been “humbling,” and that he needs to be “less of a dick” to people on social media.

We need the bodies. We need to keep fluffing up the CCU,” Bleszinski said. “We need to do what we can to let people know this is a really sweaty palm type of experience that can hopefully lend itself to eSports. But you know, I have to keep this game alive, first and foremost. I can be very cocky and very brash on social media. And realising that, you know, we have a fledgling player base. It’s been very humbling for me. I’m going to continue to iterate on this game, continue to add to it. And try to be less of a dick, honestly.

There’s a lot more interesting stuff, and I urge you to give the entire thing a read.

Do you think it will work? Can LawBreakers still rise up? What will it take to do so?

Dead by Daylight Is Free to Play on Steam This Weekend, Texas Chainsaw Massacre’s Leatherface Joins the Fight

The wonderfully horrifying Dead by Daylight is free to play on Steam for this weekend. Grab a bunch of friends and compete in this asymmetrical, Michael Myers-esque multiplayer experience. You’ve got until the end of Sunday to try it out! Here’s a link directly to the game’s steam page.

Note that there’s currently a 50% discount on both the base game and the “Deluxe Edition.”

Those unfamiliar with Dead by Daylight can read up on its key features here:

Survive Together… Or Not – Survivors can either cooperate with the others or be selfish. Your chance of survival will vary depending on whether you work together as a team or if you go at it alone. Will you be able to outwit the Killer and escape their Killing Ground?

Where Am I? – Each level is procedurally generated, so you’ll never know what to expect. Random spawn points mean you will never feel safe as the world and its danger change every time you play.

A Feast for Killers – Dead by Daylight draws from all corners of the horror world. As a Killer you can play as anything from a powerful Slasher to terrifying paranormal entities. Familiarize yourself with your Killing Grounds and master each Killer’s unique power to be able to hunt, catch and sacrifice your victims.

Deeper and Deeper – Each Killer and Survivor has their own deep progression system and plenty of unlockables that can be customized to fit your own personal strategy. Experience, skills and understanding of the environment are key to being able to hunt or outwit the Killer.

Real People, Real Fear – The procedural levels and real human reactions to pure horror makes each game session an unexpected scenario. You will never be able to tell how it’s going to turn out. Ambience, music, and chilling environments combine into a terrifying experience. With enough time, you might even discover what’s hiding in the fog.

What’s more, Texas Chainsaw Massacre‘s Leatherface is now available on PC as a purchasable character, costing $3.99. He’ll also be coming to consoles soon.

Will you be trying out Dead by Daylight?

Absolver Patch Notes Unleashed, Update 1.06 Tweaks Gameplay Balance, Enemy Spawns & More

Sloclap has detailed the latest Absolver patch notes on Steam, while also providing a general message about the game’s future and upcoming content.

Update 1.06 is currently being tested and will be released “in a couple of days.”

Here’s everything that update 1.06 contains (Minus some additional bug fixes!):

Special abilities

Absorb successful

· add +20 protection during 5s (can be stacked)
· increase ghost damage refill speed (x2)
· decrease stamina bonus (50 -> 20)

> Absorb was not so easy to use and required to have very fast attacks to regain quickly the damage taken. With the increase of ghost damage refill speed and the protection bonus we think that this style will be easier to use without fast attacks and corresponds more to the original fantasy of the style. Also it’ll be less frustrating when you get hit after several successfull absorbs. Because of these buffs we had to lower its stamina bonus.

Avoid successful

· Decrease stamina bonus (40 -> 35) increase stamina cost 5 -> 10
· Character avoided : Decrease stamina refill (x0.3) during 1.5s
· Character avoided : Stamina malus (-10)

> Avoid was considered below the parry : 4 inputs to choose instead of 2, and a worst reward (0.4s of slowdown instead of 0.6s of freeze). The fact is that for a lot of attacks there are 3 valid choices (high thrust attacks can be avoided left, right or down for instance), it also has a small recovery compared to the parry, and it stops the tracking of the opponent’s attack.
But it’s true that against attacks with very small recovery the Avoid doesn’t give enough time to counter-attack. So we decided to give another kind of reward : it inflicts a stamina malus on the avoided character, and also has a great stamina bonus.
In short, Windfall is now the best style for stamina management, and to exhaust your opponent.

Parry successful

· Decrease stamina bonus (30 -> 15)

> Parry has a high risk / high reward. We think that the reward to connect a medium to strong attack is enough so we decided to decrease its stamina bonus.

Stagger style

· decrease range of side special attacks (190 -> 145)

> Stagger side attacks was “spammable”, by decreasing their range these attacks become more defensive than offensive.

Attacks

· Decrease range and impact on guard of fastest attacks
· Increase impact on guard of Breaking attacks

> We’ve seen a lot of comments about the spam goldlink. The overall idea was always to make the guard stronger than the fast attacks, we want someone who use only fast attacks to exhaust himself against the guard of his opponent.
On the other side, we don’t want the players to stay in guard against breaking attacks.

1v1

· Health refill on kill now take in account the health ratio of both players at the beginning of the round

> We feel that it’s more fair like that. If you start a round with small amount of health and your opponent is full life he will not have a good health refill if he kills you, but if you manage to kill him you’ll get back a lot of your health.

Shockwave

· costs 2 shards
· decrease range
· add stamina bonus + boost stamina refill during 5s

> What we want with these modifications : less shockwave spam, less offensive shockwave to push you out of ring, but keep the defensive shockwave and add a tactical use of the following boost of stamina.

Others

· Increase weight/mobility impact on stamina
· Increase dodge iFrames (2 -> 4)
· Keep shards after death

>The heavy characters had not enough drawbacks.
The dodge was too much punished by horizontal attacks. With better invincible frames it’s now easier to dodge attacks (but the dodge has still a very high cost in stamina).
You’ll be able to keep shards after death, it gives more strategic options in 1v1 and allows you to use high cost powers/weapons more often.

Maps / Raslan

· Decreased maximum number of enemy AIs per zone
· Improved some enemy AIs detection range
· Fixed navigation issue in Oratian Quarter zone

Maps / 1v1

· Fixed out of bounds issue in Adalian Columbary arena
· Modification on the cross arena (no more central ledge)

As for what’s next on Sloclap’s to-do list, we were given a general idea:

“We’ve mentioned that in other updates to come very soon there will be a prestige system, stat reallocation, a better inventory with gear color edition, new equipment, an anticheat system, and other minor improvements. Beyond that, our short term priorities are getting more PvP content in (3v3 game mode, private 1v1 games, spectator cam…). New attacks and a new combat style are also planned, we’ll give more precise ETA on all this asap.”

Absolver has seen a lot of support since its launch, and the developer clearly has big plans for the game.

Are you happy with the experience so far?

Blizzard Reveals Plans to Reduce Overwatch In-Game Toxicity, Disciplinary Action Taken Against 480,000 Accounts

Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan appeared on the game’s official YouTube channel to talk about in-game toxicity, and what Blizzard is trying to do to reduce it. He explained that Blizzard has already “taken disciplinary action against over 480,000 accounts.”

Having to dedicate resources to tracking down and punishing offending players, is slowing down the production of new Overwatch updates and content. Kaplan explained that “a tremendous amount of time and resources [are used up] to [punish] people, and trying to make people behave better.”

He went on to explain that it’s not just Blizzard who’s responsible for creating a pleasant gaming space, stating that the community, too, needs to create a fun environment to play.

“I really do believe that, as much as we’re doing at Blizzard to improve the situation, the community needs to take a deep look inward, … There’s a way to spread positivity that I don’t think is really prevalent right now. Sure, we can try to build game systems to encourage that more – and we will – but we need the community to own up to their part in the accountability they have for really creating a great game space.”

You can watch the full seven-minute talk below:

Over on Battle.net, Jeff detailed the short, medium, and long-term plans for combating the growing levels of toxicity amongst players:

“We have short, medium and long term plans and we haven’t done a great job in communicating all of these things to you. In the short term we are re-evaluating every punishment and are in the process of converting silences over to suspensions. We’re also increasing the length of suspensions. Pretty soon, we hope for silences to go away all together and only have suspensions and bans for punishments (with a few exceptions like forced BattleTag changes for naming violations). Also in the short term, we’ve been testing an email notification system to let you know when someone you’ve reported has been actioned. We cannot provide a lot of detail in these emails but they only go out if an action has taken place (meaning your report contributed to someone getting suspended). The other short term thing we just did was ban a number of accounts for boosting in Season 5. These accounts were actioned either yesterday or are in the process of being actioned. They will lose all Season 5 rewards.

“In the medium term, we’re looking to completely ban repeated Competitive offenders meaning if you’ve been banned for more than X seasons, we will ban you from ever playing competitive again. We also want to increase the email notification system to other forms of reporting as well as work on an in-game notification system to let you know that your reports are doing something (this will edge more into the long term section — the in game part). For Season 6, we’re going to be way more aggressive with boosting/throwing or any sort of SR manipulation. We have some very smart people who are getting very good at detecting this behavior and we are actively building systems (and punishments) around SR abuse. Also in the medium term, we have a new series of punishments we’re going to try that escalates much more quickly (so you don’t have egregious cases like the one you’re referencing). Basically, extreme offenders will “strike out” of the game much quicker. As part of these increasing punishments, we’re looking to make it so that offenders get blocked from Competitive play much sooner — more details on this as we get closer.

“In the long term, we really want to work on systems that encourage positive behavior and reward good players. It really bums us out to spend so much time punishing people for being bad sports. We like making cool, fun game systems — that’s what we do for a living. But because people seem to lack self-control or because people like to abuse anonymity and free speech we’re put in a position of spending a tremendous amount of our time and resources policing the community. We will do this as it is our responsibility but we’d like to spend more time rewarding good players rather than having to focus on poor sportsmanship and unacceptable bad behavior so much. Like it or not, this is an “us, the OW community problem” and not just an “OW team problem”. For better or for worse, we’re in this together.”

It’s a shame that some gamers have to take things so far, taking pleasure in harming others. Here’s hoping Blizzard finds a solution that works, without taking up too much of their time.

Call of Duty: WWII Will Have “Call of Duty Points’ Confirmed

If you’re not a fan of Call of Duty Points — the currency used in the last few Call of Duty games to purchase Supply Drop boxes and the  like — then you’re so out of luck. To possibly the surprise of no one, COD Points will be present in Call of Duty: WWII

This was confirmed by Activision as it has revealed that pre-ordering the Digital Standard Edition or the Digital Deluxe Edition, will get you 1,100 Call of Duty Points at launch. This pre-order bonus joins the previously announced pre-order bonus that grants one permanent unlock token, and bonus XP buffs at launch.

Does this mean Call of Duty: WWII will have microtransactions? We can’t say for sure, but based on the franchise’s history. that’s most likely a given. Let’s just hope that it’ll be for cosmetic stuff and not involve weapons in any way.

Are you OK with how Activision has handled COD Points or does it need to go away and the publisher should find an alternative?

PUBG Cheaters Banned Now at Over 150,000

In any multiplayer game, there’s always bound to be a cheater or two that just wants to make life a living hell for those having fun. The same thing can be said for the moment’s hottest game, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG).

Over on Twitter, Player Unknown himself tweeted that over 150,000 PUBG cheaters have already been banned by anti-cheat system The Battle Eye.

In case you couldn’t see the tweet, it says, “.@TheBattlEye has now banned over 150,000 cheaters from @PUBATTLEGROUNDS, with more than 8,000 banned in the last 24 hours alone! GG WP.”

Given how big PUBG has become, there’s bound to be more PUBG cheaters banned moving forward.

In other PUBG news, don’t forget to check out the patch notes that’s out now on the Test Servers. There’s a new fog weather feature, new weapons, gameplay tweaks and more.

Have you encountered any PUBG cheaters? How do you deal with them?

Ghost Recon Wildlands PvP “Ghost War” Beta Announced, Full Details Revealed

Ubisoft is finally making good on its promise as Ghost Recon Wildlands is finally getting a PvP mode the company’s dubbing as “Ghost War.” Before that officially drops though, owners and non-owners will be able to test the mayhem out in a standalone open beta that will be available to everyone regardless if they own the game or not!

You read that right! The Ghost Recon Wildlands PvP beta will be a standalone client, and will start this September 21 and finish on September 25. Players will be able to pre-load the beta client as early as September 19. Check out the announcement trailer above, with another trailer featuring the classes below.

In Ghost War, two groups of players will take part in a four-versus-four (4v4) team deathmatch experience that builds on the tactical squad play from the main game, where strategy is equally as important as skill. Teams will choose from a roster of varied classes across three categories – Assault, Marksman and Support – that fill specific roles on the battlefield as they navigate large-scale open maps and take down their enemies.

The open beta will feature six of the twelve distinct classes, each with their own varied characteristics, weapons, perks and customisation options, and five of the eight unique maps. Ghost War will also integrate new PvP mechanics, including suppressing fire and sound markers, to create a true military-strategic, team-based multiplayer mode.

Will you be part of the Ghost War crew later this month? Stay tuned for our gameplay impressions of it once it’s up.

WWE 2K18 MyCareer Mode New Features and Changes Detailed

For this year’s  WWE 2K18 career mode, Yuke’s and Visual Concepts are adding new stuff and refining what worked from last year’s version. This year, there will be two career paths WWE 2K18 players can live through via their MyCareer superstar and they are:

  1. Company Man – Going down the Company Man path means you’re all about helping the general managers (GMs) get what they want out of the roster on any given show. This involves conspiring with the GMs backstage, ambushing other WWE Superstars in the locker room or during their interviews and basically doing whatever it takes to maintain that GM’s power, both in the ring and backstage. The rewards are hefty, though! Continue helping the GM succeed, and you’ll gain access to awesome upgrades, such as the ability to orchestrate a run-in to help you win a match. You can also access Vince McMahon’s office to lobby for match card changes and title rematches.
  2. Fan Favorite – Being a Fan Favorite means you don’t play the whole company game and you’re all about putting on the best matches and promos. You have a locker room full of WWE Superstars and Legends backstage. This route involves earning their respect by taking on different match types – night-in and night-out. You’ll also have WWE Superstars test your in-ring aptitude and skills on the microphone, but if you succeed at this, you will earn the whole locker room’s respect – and with that comes some perks. WWE Legends are always backstage during events. If you earn their respect, they’ll start to give you in-ring bonuses for your matches and promos. If you become the complete package – the guy who can walk the walk and talk the talk like Stone Cold Steve Austin or John Cena – you’ll be able to have your own customized WWE Championship or Universal Championship. This honor is only given to the best of the best.

There’s also going to be a “free-roaming” backstage feature in MyCareer that lets you ambush or talk to other superstars backstage. Upgraded features from WWE 2K17 are updated promos where there’s nearly 200 new animations, tweaked scoring on promos to make it more dynamic. Another one is the MyCareer Invasion that gets a significant bump since with the implementation of free-roam, you’ll be able to see your friends’ MyPlayers be in the backstage of your MyCareer. It’s up to you (or them) to either help you, ambush you, get them as tag team partners and more.

More details can be gobbled up at the official WWE2K site.

WWE 2K18 will be released this October 17 on the PS4, Xbox One and in the fall for the Nintendo Switch version.
