Report: Fortnite Has Working PS4 and Xbox One Cross-Play?

While it’s been reported before that PlayStation 4 and Xbox One cross-play has been made to work by some developers, it’s not something that’s going to happen anytime soon..or has it?

On a Reddit post by user PRE_-CISION-_, he reported that he played Fortnite Battle Royale on PS4 and noticed he got killed by a person with an odd gamertag “zCypher Nine.” Why is this gamertag unique? Well, it’s impossible to create on PS4 since you can’t have a PSN ID with a space, only an underscore. This same user also had an Xbox One, and he hopped online to check, and yep, they’re on Xbox One. Check out a screenshot of it below, as well as a Twitch video where he got killed by zCypher Nine player.

Watch live video from psnprecision on www.twitch.tv

Is this confirmation of PS4 and Xbox One cross-play being enabled without any sort of announcement from Microsoft, Sony or even Epic Games? Or are these players on PC and the PS4 and PC version of Fortnite are sharing a player pool?

Once we know more details, we’ll update the story. If you’re playing Fortnite on PS4, have you encountered anyone from the Xbox One crowd?

Destiny 2 Secret Map Hidden in Limited Edition Version of the Game

Destiny 2 secret map has been discovered by Reddit user “Snow-Spyder.” It’s found within the limited edition version of the game, which comes with an expansion pass, a steelbook case, and a Cabal-themed collector’s box.

Combine the included map with an ultraviolet light and you’ll be able to see a whole new map layout.

You can see the hidden map below, which appears to point toward the Destiny 2 Leviathan Raid, and the order in which you complete it.

Obviously, we now know what the Raid involves, but this secret map was available from launch, when the Raid contents hadn’t even been confirmed. The big mystery was hiding in plain sight!

Pretty cool Destiny 2 secret map, right?

If you’re interested in more secrets that Bungie has been hiding, check out our list of the top five Destiny 2 Easter eggs, all found within the game’s two social spaces.

Battleborn Content to Stop After Fall Update, Team Transitioning to New Project

Do you still play Battleborn? If so, you’re in for some sad news. Battleborn Creative Director Randy Varnell has just posted on the official Gearbox forums to announce that there will be no new Battleborn content after the “Fall Update.”

Varnell penned a long letter  announcing this and letting people know that he’ll be helping the studio work on an unannounced but “highly anticipated” project.

Hello Friends –

It’s been a while since I’ve communicated with you directly, so I wanted to take the opportunity to write to you as Battleborn rounds another milestone in its life.

As of this week, there will be no more Battleplans and there is currently no planned content after the Fall Update. Details of any future changes or news will be made on our forums or through social media, so keep your radars on.

Never fear! Battleborn is here to stay. Nothing is changing with Battleborn, and the servers will be up and active for the foreseeable future. We announced the Fall Update for the game at PAX including some new skins, themed around some of your favorite Borderlands characters! That update will also include some updated title art (more full bar titles!) for the more significant challenges in the game, as well as some additional Finisher Boosts and Taunts. Also, there are minor balance changes in that patch.

If you’ve been paying attention to recent news from the Gearbox Panel at PAX West, you’ll have heard that many folks at Gearbox are working on a highly anticipated project. Although I’m sad my time on Battlebornis coming to a close, I’m happy to announce that I will play a significant role on this highly anticipated but unannounced game, and I’m sure you’ll be hearing some from me again in the future regarding Gearbox games.

I’ve been working on Battleborn nearly exclusively since 2012, and in some ways, that work stretches back to 2009 for me. It’s been a long labor of love with many of my good friends at Gearbox, and I’m proud to have shared that journey with you, our community. Your spirit and loyalty have been a constant inspiration to the team at Gearbox.

Also, I want to personally thank you for giving Battleborn a chance, and dipping down into a new universe with us. We make games for you. And many of you have shared with us how much Battleborn has meant to you personally.

It’s always a bittersweet time when transitioning from one project to another, but also offers the opportunity to step back and enjoy the game we created. Keep an eye out for me in game!

For now, Commander Jythri is signing off and taking the first transport back to a wonderful box of surprises.

You are awesome.

For Solus.

Varnell did say that servers will be up and running “in the foreseeable future,” so there’s that. There’s still hope for future balance tweaks and whatnot as Varnell also said that players should keep their eyes peele for any “future changes,” though he didn’t exactly specify if that’s stopping (or not stopping) too.

This news shouldn’t really be that surprising given Gearbox has made Battleborn free-to-play after failing to capture a significant chunk of gamers since it released close to Blizzard’s Overwatch.

Are you surprised at this news? Did Gearbox do the right thing or did they just abandon the Battleborn players that are still playing? Does this mean Battleborn is dead, then?

Destiny 2 In-Depth Analysis Reveals How Weapons Differ in Both PVE and PVP

Reddit user “Kitsunekinder” has worked hard to bring us an in-depth look at how Destiny 2 kinectic and energy weapons differ. Testing has been carried out in both PVE and PVP modes.

If you’re interested in how the tests were done, click here for the full post and all of the details. Otherwise, here are the key takeaways:

  • Energy weapons do roughly 10% less base damage in the same Impact class/Archetype as their Kinetic counterparts in PvE.
  • Neither Kinetic nor Energy can crit on shields no matter where you land the shot. As someone said in the comments, how can you crit if you’re just shooting a shield? Makes sense!
  • Most Energy weapons do roughly 3.0x base damage to shields no matter where you land the shot nor what element you are using. I tested this across SA, SMG, HC, AR, PR, Scout. Sniper Rifles and Linear Fusion Rifles did 2.0x. This is interesting enough to make a full list on some time in the future to figure out what the best shieldburners are. Matching Element is strictly for the Elemental explosion when the shield is taken down.
  • The Elemental explosion from a same-element Energy shield last hit seems to be irrespective of the weapon used and simply pops for 50% of the total shield amount (measured over many different attempts and weapon types).
  • Elites (yellow-bars) take substantially less crit damge than their red-bar counterparts, but take the same body shot damage. Roughly half as much. So if a Hand Cannon would do 3.0x damage on a crit shot to a red-bar it would only do 1.5x damage to a yellow-bar. Furthermore, Guardians in the Crucible take this halved modifier as well.
  • There is no difference in damage between Kinetic and Energy weapons in the Crucible except with regards to damaging Roaming Supers. So when in doubt, use Energy weapons in the Crucible if you’re concerned about swapping fast enough, or just whatever guns you feel most comfortable with.
  • Not shown in the table: Crit modifiers (if you were doing the math yourself up there) are equivalent between Kinetic and Energy counterparts.

The TL;DR is: “Energy weapons do 10% less base damage than Kinetic in PvE. The elemental burst is a flat value based on the shield. Energy and Kinetic weapons do exactly the same damage in PvP except vs a Super’d Guardian in which Energy does 10% or so more damage.”

So there you go, blessed with more knowledge about Destiny 2 and its mysterious ways!

Destiny 2 Update Aims to Fix Competitive Playlist Matchmaking

Bungie has noticed that Destiny 2 matchmaking in the Competitive playlist is failing to match similarly skilled players. Instead of equally capable opponents facing off in an intense battle, some players are finding that they get completely outmatched.

Below average players getting paired with above average players is apparently a bug, and Bungie is working to fix that as soon as possible.

Here’s what you need to know about the change:

According to the finer minds on our team, the Competitive playlist needs some love. Too many players are getting stomped by opponents who grossly outmatch them. In order to match you properly with an opponent in your league, we need to apply your skill rating. There is a bug we need to fix to ensure that this is done properly. We are applying that fix right now.

In summary:
• If you’ve been having fun in Quickplay, nothing has changed. Game on.
• If you’ve been getting your ass kicked in Competitive, you’ll have more of a fighting chance.
• If you’ve been kicking ass in Competitive, we’re sending some worthier opponents your way.

Bungie also notes that the Crucible “exists in a constant state of evolution” and that it “adapts to the way [players] play.” They then give the reassurance that, “this won’t be the last update [Bungie applies] to the state of combat.”

Are you happy with the changes to Crucible?

Humble Bundle Charity Has Raised Over $100 Million

Beginning in 2010, Humble Bundle has built a name for itself by offering collections of great games at reasonable prices, while also benefiting charities. Over the last seven years, the Humble Bundle charity has managed to raise over $100 million!

It’s taken less than three years to double 2014’s impressive $50 million milestone.

John Graham, Humble Bundle COO and co-founder, spoke about the success:

“After the first Humble Indie Bundle, we were overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity … We remember delivering the first check to charity by hand and it was a larger amount of money than anything we had ever seen before. This milestone is more than 500 times bigger than that and is almost too big for me to really comprehend. We’re forever grateful to the Humble community and this huge positive impact they have made on the world.”

Have you bought anything from Humble Bundle? Happy to see so much money raised for charity?

Steam Reaches 15 Million Concurrent Users, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Claims New Record of 1.3 Million

The video game digital distribution titan, Steam, has today hit over 15 million concurrent users. That’s a hell of a lot of people signing in all at the same time to play games, sell skins, and interact with the community.

NeoGAF user “dex3108” provided a screenshot of the magical moment:

What’s even more impressive, is that 1.3 million of those concurrent players were in-game playing the “last-man-standing shooter” PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds

This marks a new milestone smashed for the game, with it laying waste to even the free-to-play behemoth Dota 2!

Those are some killer figures for both Steam and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds

Want to hear more about the success of PUBG? Well, here’s how many millions of copies have sold, despite the small target set internally. As for people no longer playing the game, because they’ve been banned, here’s the latest on the PUBG cheaters. And finally, here’s how much money people are willing to spend for the rarest in-game loot!

Star Wars Battlefront II Won’t Have a VR Mode

While 2015’s Star Wars Battlefront had a VR mode released at later date for the PlayStation VR to coincide with the Star Wars: Rogue One movie, that won’t be the case for this year’s Star Wars Battlefront II.

Speaking to MetroUK, Criterion General Manager Matt Webster was asked whether Battlefront II will have a VR mode, and thankfully, rather than dance around the question, Webster shot it down saying, “There is no VR.” and added that “it’s taken enough effort to make that.”

Having said that, Criterion designer John Stanely added that “VR for Criterion is something that’s very important,” which could mean that the studio is still working on the technology.

In the same interview, Criterion revealed that Star Fighter Assault will be the lone mode for space battles, so don’t expect any TDM (team deathmatch) modes.

Star Wars Battlefront II will have a beta before its release this October. Details on that beta have apparently leaked, which you can read about here.

Ghost Recon Wildlands PvP Beta Details: Classes, Maps Start Time & More

With Ubisoft announcing that Ghost Recon Wildlands will be getting a beta for its PvP mode called “Ghost War” later this month, the publisher has now revealed details what fans can expect in the Ghost Recon Wildlands PvP beta this September 21.

First off, it’s a standalone beta, and will be free for everyone, though it will require a PlayStation Plus membership for PS4 gamers, which I assume will be the case for Xbox One players too (the beta requiring Xbox Live Gold).

The Ghost Recon Wildlands PvP beta will run from 3 a.m. PT on September 21 until 3 a.m. PT on September 25. Pre-load will begin at midnight on September 19. The beta will feature two maps, six character classes (out of the total of 12 in the final version).

Assault: Assault classes are frontline attackers, boasting abilities that promote aggressive gameplay. They can engage the enemy effectively from medium to long range, and their main goal is hunting them down and securing areas. Either “guns-blazing” or stealthy approaches are viable Assault class strategies.

Support: Equipped with drones, the Support classes provide teammates with intel on enemy position and movement. They are equipped for medium- to short-range combat, so a more cautious approach is recommended. They can provide cover fire or keep an eye out for flanking enemies.

Marksman: While some classes in this category are more versatile in terms of combat tactics, marksmen focus on long-range combat and enemy suppression. High ground or spots with a clear view over the battlefield give marksmen an advantage over other classes. Most of them are at a disadvantage at short range, so they should stay in cover while maneuvering to strategic positions.

Deforestation

Ghost Recon Wildlands

Fighting at a sawmill means that trees are going to be your primary source of cover, whether it’s the piles of logs in the open central area or the dense tree stands that circle the perimeter. The north and south spawn points (marked by the arrows) both offer access to flanking routes and sniper positions, and the asymmetrical design of the map makes it even more crucial to know the lay of the land. For example, marksmen from the southern spawn might swing around to the west to set up shop amidst the trees (the large green circle pictured below), but they’ll have to be conscious that marksmen from the northern spawn have a shorter, more direct route to a tree-lined ridge (the wide green oval) and might be scouting for their approach.

Ghost Recon Wildlands

If you stray too far from your teammates in hopes of getting the perfect shot, it may be difficult for them to revive you if you are downed. Revives are a powerful way to reclaim the advantage in the no-respawn matches of Ghost War, so consider positioning support players in the two smaller green circles where they can quickly reposition for a revive if needed. These circles also provide strong positions from which to spot the enemy’s advances and root out counter-snipers with your surveillance drone, as well as providing good sight lines for suppressing fire.

Suppression really does a number on enemies in Ghost War and can be crucial for supporting a flanking run. The roads are the fastest routes, but minimal cover makes them risky. If you can suppress an enemy position while your assault teammate makes a run, you can shift the battlefield in your favor. Just be sure to lay any traps you have in nearby doorways or near obvious cover emplacements, because your enemies will be trying to outflank you as well.

Desert Outpost

Ghost Recon Wildlands

The rocky scrubland of Desert is a bit stingy with natural cover, so players will have to take advantage of rocks and small terrain height variation to remain undetected. If an enemy drone is airborne, it’s best to move as little as possible, and even better to be near some of the larger rocks or shrubbery. Drones operate on a cooldown timer, so once it goes away, that’s your chance to move up. The two southernmost green zones indicate rocky areas where players moving up from the southern spawn point through the open terrain can seek cover.

Ghost Recon Wildlands

Standing tall on either side of the map are two sniper towers indicated by the two similar green circles on the east and west sides of the map. The western tower is the more exposed of the two, so the trick here is to stay at the bottom of the tower and shoot from behind the supports. This is the more exposed of the two towers, so don’t hesitate to take cover in the nearby diner if an enemy identifies your position. Climbing up to the eastern tower is risky as well, given the long sight lines to the southern spawn. Get there fast and then lay traps in case an enemy is bold enough to climb up after you.

If you spawn in the south, you can get quicker access to the closer of buildings which can be a great place to work a support/assault duo. From the northern spawn, you can speedily reach the large rock indicated by the large central green circle, which provides great visibility for calling out enemy positions to your teammates. The smaller circle just to the north provides a more sheltered view if enemy marksmen already have the big rock sighted in. As the fight wears on, visiting one of the restock points indicated by the health/ammo icons can give you a crucial boost, but you’ll want to have a teammate covering you because the enemy is sure to be watching.

The full Ghost Recon Wildlands PvP mode will be available later this fall as a free update to all Ghost Recon Wildlands owners. Ubisoft will be giving everyone a sneak peek at the beta this September 19 at 9 a.m. PT over on their Twitch channel.

Once we get our grubby hands on the beta, we’ll get our impressions up on the site.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Double Cryptokeys in Free for All Starts Today

While Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare has some double XP love going on right now, Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 won’t be left behind. It’s not getting a double XP weekend, no. However, it is getting a Black Ops 3 double cryptokey week!

Enabled in Free for All mode, players can earn double the cryptokeys starting today, September 15, 10 a.m. PDT, and it will last until September 22, 10 a.m. PDT.

Speaking of Treyarch, the latest job postings from the studio heavily suggests that they are working on a “modern” setting Call of Duty game.

As for this year’s Call of Duty, Call of Duty: WWII, there’s an open PC beta set to take place by the end of this month. You can check out our COD: WWII beta impressions to see what we make of it so far.

Destiny 2 Experiences “Biggest Console Game Launch Week of the Year” & Largest Ever Day One Sales for PS Store

Destiny 2 has claimed the crown for “biggest console game launch week of the year,” as well as pulling in the largest amount of day one sales on the PlayStation Store.

What’s more, Destiny is the number one console-only game viewed on Twitch (by minutes watched). The Raid, called “Leviathan,” went live for players on Sept. 13 and immediately shot to the #1 position on Twitch based on total concurrent viewers.

Bungie CEO, Pete Parsons, said, “We hit some great milestones this week with our community.” He added, “We are blown away that we’ve had eight days in a row in Destiny 2 where we’ve seen more than one-million concurrent players grace our worlds. It’s equal parts inspiring and humbling, and we’re looking forward to showing everyone what’s coming next!”

Destiny 2 is off to a strong start as the #1 console gaming launch week of the year to date,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision.  “With the PC version yet to ship, Destiny 2 sets the stage for being one of the biggest video game entertainment events of the year.”

Bungie and Activision sound pretty happy, and I can’t say I blame them! This has been a huge win for the game.

Have you picked up Destiny 2

Grand Theft Auto V has risen to become the best-selling game of all time, according to the NPD Group’s August analysis for video game sales in 2017. (Presumably, this is based on US figures, but we will update this post if it’s global.)

NPD’s Mat Piscatella revealed the game’s success, and offered a few interesting statistics to emphasis just how impressive a feat GTA V has achieved:

“Grand Theft Auto V has now been on the market 49 months and has achieved 41 Top 10 chart appearances, 16 more times than any other single title in reported history … In addition, Grand Theft Auto V is the all-time best-selling game by both revenue and units in tracked sales across PC, console, and portable with digital and packaged combined.”

Even AAA August releases like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy were beaten by the multi-platform and multi-generation release.

Grand Theft Online adds a compelling reason to keep on coming back to the game, and Rockstar has focused support on that area in particular.

Do you think GTA V deserves this much success?

New Call of Duty: WWII Zombies Mode Details Include Setting, Zombie Types, Mystery Box & More

Those hungry for more brrraaaiiii- Call of Duty: WWII Zombies mode details have come to the right place. Feast your eyes on the latest information shared by Sledgehammer Games in an interview with PlayStation Blog US.

Highlights of the interview include the setting:

PSB: In the trailer, we see a clock tower, sewers, and laboratory. Will players explore the three of these levels?
JH: Zombies will take place in a quiet Bavarian village in Germany in the later years of WWII. Players will be transported to a horrifying corner of the town, where bloody sewers, evil laboratories, and ancient tombs will reveal their dark secrets. It’s an immersive thrill ride, and developing the canvas and the environment the player is immersed in was a fun challenge for our team.

The different types of zombies:

PSB: The trailer hints at different types of zombies. How far is Sledgehammer going in this direction?
JH:In our story, the Third Reich has built an army of the dead in a last-ditch attempt to save the war effort. Interestingly, these zombies retain some of the discipline and purpose of the soldiers they once were. Each zombie type fills a specialized role as well: there are flaming zombies and running zombies, for example, and they will give you serious problems if you get cornered.

It will take a ton of strategy and teamwork to survive the varied undead soldiers in this mode. Teamwork, communication, and a level head will be key!

And a tease at the evolution of the Mystery Box:

PSB: Has the Mystery Box evolved? What about the Monkey Bomb? We have so many questions…
JH:You’ll have to wait until November to find out. Though there are hints in the trailer for those with keen eyes…
