Black Ops 2 – The Return of Sgt. Frank Woods

Apparently, Woods isn’t surprised…

Only a few moments ago, Treyarch unveiled a new Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 image revealing a well-loved character from the original Black Ops, Sgt. Frank Woods, who will most likely be returning in the sequel. Additionally, what we think is his face can be seen in the recently leaked in-game screens of Black Ops 2. Make sure to check those out if you haven’t yet.

Just now, another piece of intel has been revealed by Treyarch teasing yet another voice-actor who is believed to be the voice of Woods. In the video below, he reads these words: “Aside from the fact that I’m still alive, none of this surprises me.” Though aged, it shares the same quality of Woods’ voice from the original. Check it out for yourself!

[youtube id=”_tNJ46OYPv8″ width=”600″ height=”350″]

The words themselves lend to the fact that this character could, indeed, be Woods, as he was believed to be killed in action in the original Black Ops, though his body was never shown.

The question is: What type of roll will Woods play in Black Ops 2? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

God of War: Ascension Multiplayer Announced, First Details

After being rumored for nearly a year now, one of Playstation’s most beloved franchise, God of War, is making into the competitive world of online gaming.

Today, Sony Enterntainment and Santa Monica announced that God of War: Ascension would feature full, 8-player competitive online multiplayer modes. The game will be heavily focused on team interaction, so seeing players gang up on another isn’t something out of the usual.  So far only one mode has been confirmed, which is domination. In this mode, you and three other players face off against four more players over control of two points located on the map. The goal is obviously to capture these points and once finished, you’ll proceed to finishing the match by killing the giant Cyclops.

Eurogamer has confirmed that the game will feature classes along with unlocks. At first, your going to start out with selecting one of the four gods; Zeus, Poseidon, Hades or Ares. Depending on which path you select, you’ll unlock different abilities and weapons. While details on classes are still scarce, expect some of them to be based on strength, magic and healing.

Also confirmed is that the combat system is built the same way as it has always been in the God of War series. Expect the same combos and attacks to transition into multiplayer. Whether you level up with red orbs is still currently unknown, but it’s more than likely.

I will touch just a tiny bit on single player for those who have concerns, since this is the first God of War title to feature multiplayer. During the live stream event, it was confirmed that it will still be their “bread and butter” and in no way will multiplayer affect the quality of the single player. With God of War 3, the team brought scale by introducing the titans. With Ascension, they wanted to do something new and that was to introduce multiplayer. By doing so, they want to show the world their take on multiplayer and how they can put a spin on the mode. Don’t expect the multiplayer to be “tacked on” either as that is something that the team does not want to do.

Are you excited about God of War going multiplayer? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Ghost Recon Future Soldier on PC “Isn’t a Straight Port,” Says Ubisoft

The PC version of Ghost Recon Future Soldier stirred controversy as it went from being announced, to then being cancelled until it was confirmed once again but with a slight delay compared to consoles.

As for why it was delayed on PC, speaking to BeefJack, creative director Jean-Marc Geoffroy explained “it’s the fact that it isn’t a straight port.” He continued, “You have to adapt the controls [to keyboard and mouse] and more than that, you have to adapt the game to DirectX 11 and the best graphics cards, so it takes time.”

Consoles will receive the game on May 22nd in NA, 25th in the UK, and PC players can expect it to release on June 12th in NA, June 15th in the UK.

Development director Adrian Lacey explained, “it’s an enhanced experience on PC, so you have to. If we don’t do that then it would be a straight port, but on PC you need to step up your game in a different way.”

He then went on to point out that “Ghost Recon was founded on PC, so it’s something we’re very cautious and aware of doing right, otherwise [fans are] not happy.”

Is Battlefield 3 Finally The Game It Was Meant To Be? DICE Admits, “We Can’t Win”

DICE Executive Producer Patrick Bach takes a look back at the patching process of Battlefield 3, its current state and how the gaming public views DICE’s AAA shooter six month later. Is it now, finally, the game it was promised to be?

Speaking to Eurogamer, Bach admits that Battlefield 3 could have seen a better launch. “Of course, three months before shipping, I would have loved to have said, f*** it, let’s ship it six months later. But you can’t do that when you’re that close.” In a case such as this, he explains, “what we tried to do was make sure the game was good enough when we shipped it, and then post launch we have been updating it quite a bit, and also releasing these expansion packs, which also fix stuff in the game. There is definitely stuff I want to do better, but then again that’s why I always try to make things better.”

Reflecting on DICE’s experience with Battlefield 2 and comparing it to Battlefield 3, Bach mentions, “Battlefield 2 had the same cycle. When it was released people thought it was great. And then you had all the complaints. People still played it.” He continued, “we patched BF2 several times. It wasn’t until 2.5 or something that people said, now it’s done. Now this is the game you should have shipped.”

Six months after the release of Battlefield 3, and after a number of substantial patches filled to the brim with tweaks and fixes, can Battlefield 3 fans say that they now experiencing the game Battlefield 3 was meant to be? Bach would believe so, stating, “I completely agree. Now the game has never been better.” Though, he admits it has not come without its hiccups and challenges.

“It’s such a complicated game. I don’t know how many guns we have in the game. It’s plenty. Then, together with all the vehicles, maps, and gadgets, they all need to work perfect on all maps, and it needs to work the same on all maps,” explains Bach. While many gamers have taken a liking to the new patch, others have produced mixed results. “I’ve heard some people say, I didn’t notice any difference. And I’ve heard people say, it was good, now you broke it. So when you say that, it’s a bit like, this is the patch that made the game complete. But is that a good thing or bad thing compared to the other people who didn’t notice anything, or say we broke it? We can’t win,” confesses Bach.

However, to take some good out of the less favorable results, the team at DICE at least knows that people care about Battlefield 3 and that they want it to be the best game it possibly can be. Bach explains, “I love the fact they notice the differences and the changes we made and approve of it, they get why we did this and that, because we spent a lot of energy looking at all the numbers. We didn’t have all those numbers when we shipped. We didn’t know about all the balancing issues. What I’m proud of is people trust us to stay in the game so when we release the patch they’re still playing and can actually enjoy the result of the patch. In some games you never get a second chance, you never get the chance to do your first patch.”

Bach mentions that it’s all about trust: “To me it’s trusting us to improve. I want to improve and do better, and it feels like our fans are actually aware of that.”

Is this the end of incoming patches for Battlefield 3? Not by a long shot. We are still expecting fixes for the currently bugged M26 MASS, as well an end to the PlayStation 3’s VoIP and input lag issues, among other things. This is, of course, not to mention the upcoming expansion packs as well. In fact, earlier, Bach promised fans “12-18 months of value for Battlefield 3.”

He stresses, “we are listening and we are not getting lazy. We know Battlefield is not a game where you just release it and then move on to something else. It’s a game where you need to have a team that works on it post-launch.”

Let’s hear your thoughts about the current state of Battlefield 3. Is it finally the game you’ve been expecting after the recent patches? Is it close? Or, does it still have a long way to go?

[Update] Black Ops 2 – Treyarch Hints at Another Mystery Voice Actor, New Teaser Image Revealed

Update: Yesterday’s screen shot has been updated to show a much clearer version of the mysterious image. Having a much better look at it now, it appears that is could possibly be some sort of underbarrel attachment to some strange looking weapon. Check it out and let us know in the comments what you think it’s all about!

Original Story: Yet another piece of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 intel has been dropped by Treyarch while yesterday’s has been updated to reveal another mystery voice actor.

Yesterday, Treyarch released a flashing GIF which read “the future is not as far off as most people think – we’re not ready for it,” suggesting, once again, a futuristic setting for Black Ops 2. Today, it has been updated to play this video below, teasing yet another mystery voice actor who may make an appearance in Black Ops 2. It reads the same sentence:

[youtube id=”Lze89Faqc6A” width=”600″ height=”350″]

You can check out the first mystery voice actor tease here.

On top of updating yesterday’s clue, a new image has also appeared on the official Call of Duty website. This one is rather tough to make out, but it looks like it could be another hint at the setting for either the single-player campaign or a multiplayer map.

Once again, thanks, MrRoflWaffles, for the tip! YouTuber xVitiate also pointed out in his video that it looks similar to parts of the rocket featured in various multiplayer, campaign and zombie maps in the original Black Ops.

Let us know in the comments below what you can make out of this image. Also, make sure to join us in the hunt for clues leading up to Black Ops 2’s May 1st reveal by following us on Twitter and Facebook!

New Black Ops 2 Intel Drop Suggests a Futuristic Setting

The latest piece of intel on the official Call of Duty website has been unlocked. It’s another GIF that reads, “The future is not as far off as most people think – We’re not ready for it.”

This is the second hint that Black Ops 2 will be set in the near future. As we previously noted from the viral video, Black Ops 2 might be set 10-15 years into the future.

Click on the image below to see the GIF, which shows the following hidden letters B,O,I,Z,Y as MP1st reader Feraltomahawk noticed.

Thanks to Kyle W. and MrRoflWaffles for sending this in.

Yesterday’s image of the General Atomics Avenger has been updated with a clearer version, which you can see below:

On a side note, before the original Black Ops was released, Activision registered several domain names in May 2010 revolving the phrases, future warfare,  advanced warfare, secret warfare, and space warfare, dug up by Superannuation and reported by VG247 in 2010.

Here’s the list of URLs registered in 2010:

callofdutyfuturewarfare.com
callofdutyfuturewarfare2.com
callofdutyfuturewarfare3.com
advancedwarfare2.com
advancedwarfare3.com
codfuturewarfare.com
codfuturewarfare2.com
codfuturewarfare3.com
futurewarfare2.com
futurewarfare3.com
secretwarfare2.com
secretwarfare3.com
spacewarfare2.com
spacewarfare3.com

Of course, the next Call of Duty, which will be revealed on May1st, is all but confirmed to be subtitled “Black Ops 2.” We don’t think that two year old registration spree has to do with any of the aforementioned hints. It’s just an interesting piece of news from 2010 that shows Activision has been pondering with the idea of future warfare for a long time.

Make sure to follow MP1st on Twitter and Facebook for the latest Black Ops 2 news.

Modern Warfare 3 Collection 1 for PC Releases on May 8th

Unfortunately for Modern Warfare 3 players on PC, the first content collection appearently didn’t get through QA fast enough to release in April.

Modern Warfare 3’s Collection 1 was released on March 20th for Xbox 360, which gave PS3 and PC players the impression that the content collection would be released a month later on their respective platforms. PS3 users did get Collection 1 on April 19th. However, PC players were kept in the dark about the release date expect for a “coming soon” statement issued on April 12th. And, a few days ago Infinity Ward responded to one disgruntled player, “we haven’t forgotten about our PC community. MW3 PC DLC currently bug fixing in QA and hope to release in next few weeks.”

Earlier this month, we broke the story that one Russian retailer had the DLC listed to release this month. However, Infinity Ward announced on Twitter that the DLC pack will  be available in May. The studio stated, “MW3 PC DLC Content Collection 1 available May 8th on Steam. Includes 4 Maps for MP and Survival Mode and 2 Spec Ops Missions.”

The maps included are:

  • Piazza
  • Liberation
  • Overwatch
  • Black Box

The following Spec Ops missions will be packed in:

  • Negotiator
  • Black Ice

Recently, new achievements were added to Steam for the missions in Collection 1. Also, the update outed two new missions coming in future drops. You can the list of achievements here.

Here’s the Xbox 360 launch trailer for content pack:

[Updated] New Black Ops II Intel Hints At Guest Voice Actor and Different Air Support Killstreaks

Yet another piece of intel is revealed by Treyarch as we inch closer to the May 1st reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

If you haven’t yet heard, it looks like the logo, title and release date of Black Ops II have all but been revealed thanks to a leaked pair of Target pre-order cards. Nevertheless, the official Call of Duty website continues to tease fans with distorted images hinting at different aspects of the game.

This time, Treyarch has revealed what seems to be perhaps another shot of the Quadrotor along with what we think could be some sort of spy plane or UAV in the background. If that is the case, it would seem insignificant considering that most would assume a spy plane or UAV would be a kill/pointstreak in Black Ops II anyways. Additionally, there also appears to be some sort of dark spot directly above this plane. Could there be more to this picture than meets the eye?

Check out the image for yourself and let us know in the comments below what you think it might be or what it might mean!

Thanks to tellmeadeshina for a clearer image:

Update 2: As some readers have pointed out in the comments below, this aircraft seems to be what is known as the General Atomics Avenger (fomerly the Predator C), an unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV) first seeing flight in 2009.

Thanks to MrRoflWaffles, SpiderBite and others, we’ve also discovered this video recently posted on the official Call of Duty YouTube channel which includes a voice-over line reading the words, “the enemy could be anywhere and it could be anyone,” a sentence that was released as a piece of intel earlier on. Could it be a hint at a particular voice actor that will be included in the cast of Black Ops II? Who does it sound like to you?

Update 1: Yesterday’s intel now also plays this video when clicked on.

CoD: Black Ops II Title and Release Date Confirmed by Target Pre-Order Cards

At last, we can stop guessing the exact title of Treyarch’s upcoming Call of Duty.

An IGN UK reader has recently pointed out that Target pre-order cards confirm the title and logo, Black Ops II, and the date, 11.13.12, as expected.

The title was indirectly confirmed earlier when we learned a morse code on the official Call of Duty website read “Black Ops II.” Similarly, the release date has been referred to a number of times and was revealed thanks to this leaked promotional cover.

So, there you have it. Call of Duty: Black Ops II will release this November 13th, 2012.

Make sure to keep an eye on our dedicated Black Ops 2 section for the latest hints, clues and news!

DICE Promises “12-18 Months of Value for Battlefield 3” and Details Upcoming DLC, Close Quarters and Armored Kill

Close Quarters Lead Designer Niklas Fegraeus and Battlefield 3 Executive Producer/Temporary DICE CEO Patrick Bach talk Battlefield 3 DLC, Close Quarters and Armored Kill, and lay out DICE’s future plan for Battlefield 3.

Speaking to VG247, Niklas Fegraeus describes Close Quarters as an “indoor Battlefield.” To check out some gameplay footage for yourself, make sure to take a peek at the second Close Quarters gameplay trailer. As many already know, Close Quarters will introduce 10 new weapons that can be unlocked by completing assignments and which can also be brought back to Back to Karkand and the original Battlefield 3. “When we did the research for what guns to include and so on, we have looked at what kind of weapons and weaponry is most suitable for a close combat, indoor environment. You don’t want big guns that get snagged on thing. There’s a compact feel to a lot of it,” explains Fegraeus. Speaking of weapons, make sure to check out the complete list of weapons included in Close Quarters.

So far, only two maps have been revealed: Ziba Tower and Donya Fortress. Fegraeus describes Ziba Tower as a “luxurious skybar located in central Tehran.” As for Donya fortress, Fegraeus explains that “it’s a bit bigger than the Ziba Tower and it has lots of verticality in it where you can go into the cellar and you can be out in the big water garden. It has some really nice locations.” Both Fegraeus and Bach stressed the importance of vertical gameplay with multiple levels in this particular DLC.

Bach went on to describe the newly introduced game mode, Conquest Domination, as “a twist on the classic Conquest mode where you have only three flags. You can’t spawn on the actual flags so it’s a very high-paced version of Conquest that fits these types of environments really, really well.” Bach also promises that “there’s room for all the classes in these type of maps.”

Speaking of the thirdm upcoming expansion pack, Armored Kill, Bach describes it as being on the opposite end of the spectrum. On top strategic gameplay, it also promises to include “big, open landscapes, new vehicles – a lot of vehicles – and focusing on the width and the scale of Battlefield.” It goes without saying that Bach couldn’t go into details regarding exactly what vehicles we will be seeing in Armored Kill, but he did promise a nice “spread in the vehicles,” when referring to selection.

Bach wrapped things up with a summary of DICE’s current plans for Battlefield 3: “So the expansion pack called Close Quarters is due to be released in June, and then in fall we’re releaseing the next one, Armored Kill, and then Winter is the only thing I can tell about End Game.” Battlefield 3 fans can expect a long shelf life as Bach explained at last week’s EA European Showcase, “we at DICE, we only focus on Battlefield. We make sure that if you’re a Battlefield player, there should be plenty of Battlefield for you to spend your days on. And again, we are focusing on giving you 12-18 months of value for Battlefield 3 and the expansion packs we’re releasing.”

When asked if End Game would mean the end Battlefield 3, Bach answered with a grin, “I will not answer that question.”

Which Battlefield 3 expansion pack are you most looking forward to?

Ubisoft’s continued support of the Ghost Recon Future Soldier beta has been impressive. On top of the recent updates that went live a couple days earlier, the team is improving the beta yet again today.

If you are beta testing the game then be sure to leave your feedback about your game experience on their official forums. This will only benefit the game even further when they work out the kinks come launch time. Be sure to check out our first impressions of the beta as well.

Improvements that Ubisoft has deployed on the Xbox 360 as of 2pm EST today, soon to follow on the PS3, as listed on the official website:

Riflemen are over-powered:

  • Increased minimum recoil for the ACR and AK200 to align them more closely with the other assault rifles.
  • Reduced maximum assault rifle damage range, making the sniper rifle more valuable.
  • Increased minimum damage of SMGS, making them more effective against all classes at further ranges.
  • Dramatically reduced the radius of the heartbeat sensor.

Additional Weapon changes:

  • Reduced the dispersion to make handguns generally more effective, especially for the bomb carrier.
  • Adjusted shotgun effectiveness.

XP adjustments:

  • Adjusted XP values for Confidence & Hack Objective.

Additional Equipment changes:

  • Adjusted Flash Bang Duration.
  • Adjusted Flash Bulb reload time.
  • Adjusted EMP air burst radius for EMPs launched by a underbarrel or standalone grenade launcher.
  • Adjusted the amount of UAV’s in match.
  • Increased the duration of the Sensor to make them more susceptible to countering.

Note: Some of you may have noticed the periodical server reboot announcements; these reboots are a part of the Beta optimization process. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and are doing everything possible to minimize impact on your play time. These changes will apply to Playstation 3 owners soon.

Battlefield 3 Developer Details All Weapon Attachments Post-Patch

Senior Gameplay Designer at DICE, Alan Kertz, explains in detail the pros and cons of all Battlefield 3 weapon attachments post-patch.

If you’re serious about your gun skills, then you’ll definitely want to check this one out. Many Battlefield vets will have noticed a rather significant change in weapon attachment balance since the latest patch. According to Kertz, this was completely intentional and for good reason. Pre-patch, many players would gravitate towards the combination of a Forgrip and Suppressor for this set-up seemed to produce the best overall results. So, why would others want to try out different attachments? This was the question Kertz was faced with as he expresses in the latest issue of Inside DICE. He explains, “when we see many players gravitating towards a single setup, as game designers we can conclude that the other choices are not interesting enough to give players reason to try them out. We want players to experience the width of the game, and for this reason we concluded it was time to make a change.”

Below, Kertz has listed various combinations of weapon attachments while explaining the strengths and weaknesses of each after the patch. Each one is categorized into a different play style for easy reference. Which one do you prefer? Let us know in the comments below!

Missed all the weapons that will be included in DICE’s upcoming Battlefield 3 DLC, Close Quarters? Check out the full list here!

Jack of All Trades
Primary accessory: Foregrip
Secondary accessory: Flash Suppressor

Kertz’ Comments: To be blunt, previously the Flash Suppressor was worthless. Post update it has received a huge buff: It now substantially reduces the muzzle climb of a weapon, making it much more controllable. Pairing the Foregrip and the Flash Suppressor together will give your weapon a huge boost in controllability, and this will especially help with high rate of fire weapons like the F2000, AEK-971, A-91 and FAMAS.

Short Range Stealth
Primary accessory: Foregrip
Secondary accessory: Suppressor

Kertz’ Comments: The Foregrip’s muzzle drift reduction works well at short range and pairs well with the Suppressor’s minor muzzle climb reduction. You’ll be invisible on the minimap, you’ll have a significantly reduced muzzle signature, and your weapon will be more controllable. Finally by pairing the Suppressor and the Foregrip together the Suppressor’s minor accuracy bonus fully offsets the accuracy penalty of the Foregrip — your gun will be just as accurate as if you had no accessories at all.

Hip Fire Run and Gun
Primary accessory: Foregrip
Secondary accessory: Laser Sight

Kertz’ Comments: The Laser Sight gives a massive bonus to accuracy from the hip and will allow you to be much more accurate while mobile. Since most of your fire will be from the hip, adding a Foregrip will reduce muzzle drift and make your fire more controllable without feeling any of the downsides of the Foregrip. You can also toggle your laser sight on and off to afford a bit more stealth if the situation requires. Remember, the laser sight only helps from the hip, so turn it off when you’re aiming down the sights to increase your stealth!

Medium Range Marksman
Primary accessory: Foregrip
Secondary accessory: Heavy Barrel

Kertz’ Comments: This has been a clear source of confusion in the community. Should I pair a Foregrip with my Heavy Barrel after the update? My answer is a definite yes. Although the Foregrip decreases Aimed Accuracy, the Heavy Barrel’s Aimed Accuracy bonus has been increased to offset the Foregrip’s penalty. Pairing the two will still give you much greater Aimed Accuracy than a stock weapon, as well as reducing your muzzle drift. You will see some increased muzzle climb, however you’ll also be getting increased range out of the Heavy Barrel so your hits will have more impact at Medium Range.

Long Range Marksman
Primary accessory: Bipod
Secondary accessory: Heavy Barrel

Kertz’ Comments: If you want to get the absolute best accuracy out of your weapon, this is the setup for you. The bipod has absolutely no downsides when undeployed, and when deployed it gives a huge boost to accuracy both aimed and from the hip as well as substantially reducing muzzle climb and drift. You’ll also get the increased range of the heavy barrel making you a threat to even snipers when using your deployed bipod and a high zoom optic.

These are my recommendations. There are several combinations that haven’t been covered here, so experiment to find your best post update accessory combo. There’s at least one combo that’s perfect for your unique play style, so try a few and you’ll likely find not just a new accessory combo, but a whole new play style. You can find a handy guide below so you always know what to expect when experimenting with the different accessories discussed above.
