Horizon Forbidden West Launch Day Celebrated With Life-Sized Statue in Seoul, Drone Shows, & More

To celebrate the launch day of Horizon Forbidden West in Asia, Sony and PlayStation prepared some real-life activities and more for the biggest fans of the series! The highlight is a life-sized statued in Seoul, Korea of a Clawstrider machine, but if you’re not in the area there are still some celebratory stuff to be found online, and you can check them all out below.

Kicking things off is the life-sized Clawstrider Machine statue. Located in 1st floor Atrium Square of Lotte World Mall in Seoul, South Korea, the life-sized statue was built meticulously with close collaboration with Guerrilla Studios and it showcases Clawstrider, a machine that is covered from head to tail in razor-sharp plates and equipped with vicious claws on both feet and forelimbs. The statue will be displayed until March 2, 2022. Check out an image of the Clawstrider below:

If you don’t live in Korea, don’t fret! You can still celebrate the Horizon Forbidden West launch day as Guerrilla Games also partnered with a few prominent Asia-based illustrators: Ravee of Titans (Thailand), Ann Maulina (Indonesia), Lee InHyuk (South Korea), VOFAN (Taiwan, also best known for his illustrations in Nisio Isin’s Monogatari light novels), and Little Thunder (Hong Kong). All of them have created special illustrations of Aloy, which you can use as desktop or smartphone wallpapers. Check them out here, as well as more details on the illustrations themselves.

Finally, if you’re feeling up for crafting yourself, you can also check out a video guide on papercrafting some of the more memorable Machines in Horizon Forbidden West. Check out guides for the Clawstrider and Sunwing papercrafts below:

Drone shows were also held in both Saudi Arabia and Russia for the release of Horizon Forbidden West. Check it out below:

In case you missed it, you can also check out our review of Horizon Forbidden West here, where AJ writes, “Aloy has quickly grown into one of my favorite Sony protagonists and the wide cast of characters each bring their own unique flavor to the game. Higher quality side quests, combined with a main campaign that feels grander in scope, and is much better paced than the original make for a strong story, and the beautiful environments, combined with highly detailed character models and improved gameplay make this an early candidate for Game of the Year.”

Fortnite February 18 Update for Xbox Released, Fixes Crashing Issue

Epic Games has released the Fortnite February 18 update for Xbox today, and this one is for a troublesome issue on the console! Check out the details on this latest patch below.

Fortnite February 18 Update for Xbox Patch Notes:

We’ve released a patch for Xbox One consoles to resolve the issue with crashing during log-in.

Please close out of and relaunch Fortnite to download this update.

That’s about it for the patch. In case you missed it, the last update for Fortnite, v19.30, added quite a hefty chunk of changes, one of them gyro controls on PC and PlayStation consoles!

With gyro controls, you control the camera by turning the controller. Enable or disable gyro controls in Fortnite by going to the “Touch and Motion” tab of the settings. Gyro controls can offer more precision than standard stick aiming – but don’t have to replace it entirely. (With flick stick, for example, pointing the right stick moves the camera quickly in its direction.) For more info on gyro, watch Jibb’s video below and read our Gyro and Flick Stick blog post!

If there are any more changes to this patch, we’ll be sure to update this post.

Big Ant Studios has released the Cricket 22 update 1.28 (PS5 version 1.000.028) patch today, which is the third released for this week! Check out the full release notes below to find out the changes in the latest Cricket 22 patch.

Cricket 22 Update 1.28 Patch Notes | Cricket 22 Update 1.000.028 Patch Notes | Cricket 22 February 18 Patch Notes:

At the time of writing, Big Ant Studios has not yet revealed the full patch notes for this latest update. In the meantime, check out the known issues for Cricket 22 below:

  • PlayStation 4 – Frame Rate / Slow down issues We are currently aware of an issue on PlayStation 4 regarding slowdown during matches – most predominately during night matches. We are working on the problem and expect to bring improvements over the coming patches – this will be a gradual process – Keep an eye out for patch notes that state “Improvements to Frame Rate.”
  • Community Download Issues There have been reports of issues when downloading content created by the community. These issues have generally been when doing general searches for Teams and Players. Searching for specific teams or players will minimise this issue.
  • Overthrows There is a known issue where fielders will throw the ball badly as to miss any stump guards (wicket keeper/ bowler) and backup fielders. This can occur more easily when a run is cancelled and the ball is thrown at the stumps – but can happen at other times.

We’ll update this post accordingly once the full patch notes are out.

Marvel’s Avengers Next Update 2.3 Preview Lists Changes to Rewards, Mega Hives & More

In addition to the upcoming update outline released yesterday, Crystal Dynamics also dropped the Marvel’s Avengers next update 2.3 preview, which is a bit more in-depth thanks to its outlined changes for the game! Check out the patch preview below to see the big changes coming to Marvel’s Avengers.

Marvel’s Avengers Upcoming Patch 2.3 Preview:

  • Checkpoint Rewards for the Discordant Sound Raid
    • We have changed the setup of rewards to drop from major encounters in the Raid, rather than all at the end. There are now four instances in the Raid that will award Gear.
    • This also means the normal Raid will drop an additional Klaw Minor Artifact (though it will not improve your Power Level). We are still looking at improving the subsequent rewards and will update you when we have that plan finalized.
    • The new Mission Chain panel lists the order and what encounter gives you Gear.
  • Reward Edits for OLT/Raid
    • We have added Units as a reward to both the Mission Chain and the Mission itself.
    • This means you will earn 1000 Units when you complete it the first time per week, and 500 Units for each subsequent completion.
  • Vault/Villain Sector Rewards
    • The rewards for these missions have undergone an overhaul.
    • Vaults no longer need coordinates and can be picked up from the SHIELD Faction mission giver. One weekly Elite Vault and Villain Sector will also be a part of the weekly updates.
    • The Missions will always stay on the War Table, and their rewards now have a chance to drop the Exotic variants of their sets. Completing the daily and weekly Mission Chains gives a higher chance at the Exotic.
    • The weekly Elite Mission Chains will also award two pieces of Gear: one will be either Melee or Ranged, and the other will be either Defense or Heroic.
    • The Gear Set that is awarded from Villain Sectors has also changed, but we will have more on that later—stay tuned!
  • Hero-Bound Mega Hives
    • We will be making more Missions and Mission Chains Hero-Bound, including the Mega Hive.
    • The Mega Hives will work a little differently from other Hero-Bound Missions because of the elimination mechanic. If your Hero is above Power Level 140, even if you are knocked out during the Mega Hive, you will be able to claim weekly rewards after completing the Hive. Once those rewards are claimed, the Mission Chain will restart.
    • The first weekly completion per Hero will grant rewards. If you’d like to claim more rewards on the same Hero again, you will have to wait until the weekly reset.
    • We are looking forward to going into detail about more updates to rewards and Missions in the future.

In case you missed it, check out the new stuff coming to the Marvel’s Avengers Marketplace here from February 17 onwards.

CrossfireX Review – Remedy Needed (Xbox Series)

Assigned to the renowned studio behind the cult hit Alan Wake, and multiple Game of The Year winner of  2019, Control, Remedy cashes in on what can only be described as an easy paycheck to deliver possibly one of this year’s worst experiences, and certainly their worst product yet. No, that’s not over exaggeration, and that’s only elevated by Smilegate’s attempt to bring the highly popular multiplayer franchise to the Western audience. We tackle both the single-player and multiplayer portions of CrossfireX and come away needing an actual remedy for us, and the game.

Single-Player – No Remedy to Cure This

While my expectations were low going into the campaign of CrossfireX, the small light of hope was that Remedy Studios would be the ones producing it. A first in the genre for them, and after playing through the forgettable 4-6 hour long campaign, hopefully the last.

Split into two campaign missions, or operations as they’re called, players will take on the role of an elite group of mercenaries from a faction known ad the Global Risk. Tasked with infiltrating a group known as The Blacklist, their goal? To get a hold of a device known as the “Catalyst,” which grants them the ability to peer into the future. However, as with many stories, things quickly go awry as one of your squadmates ends up in hostile hands, turning this mission into a search and rescue.

crossfirex review 6

On the other side, Operation Spectre, the second campaign, has players take on the side of The Blacklist. A nice contrast that helps fit a narrative the the online component, which we’ll talk more on later. This mission sees player attempting to foil the plans of Global Risk.

While both stories sound pretty straightforward, there are a number of bits of Remedy’s personality sprinkled through them. In Catalyst, players will dive deep in the mind of a character going mad. It’s a hint of the psychological thrills that Remedy has provided over the years, which is even more hinted at in the second campaign.

Sadly though, what it all amounts to is a rather confusing mash-up of what feels like leftover ideas. The writing isn’t all too good, which only makes the voice acting suffer. Overall, the campaign is short with the operations totaling somewhere between five to six hours. Not a complaint, mind you, because when you factor in price that actually isn’t a bad deal at all — especially when you compare it to the length of say, a Call of Duty game.

However, this is a game that Remedy has decided to put their name on for reasons that I’ve mentioned were probably for a quick buck. Regardless, with the work and content they’ve provided before, one would think they’d bring in more effort, especially with it being their first, first-person shooter.

And these issues stem further than just the campaign. I’m sure you’ve all have heard it by now, but CrossfireX is damn near impossible to play. Booting into the campaign for the very first time, the core gunplay is embarrassingly bad. Aiming is, well, broken as acceleration kicks in as with a plethora of other issues such as aim assists, and dead zones. It doesn’t feel good, and being a first-person shooter, that is by far the most important thing.

The enemies (and the Artifical Intelligence) are laughable too. They provide no real challenge, and even playing at a higher difficulty they’ll find themselves lining up for an easy kill — that is if you can aim at all. Yet despite all that, the campaign is somehow considered the better experiences between its multiplayer counterpart.

Multiplayer – Bare and Broken, Except for Microtransactions

I’ll say it again: if you are going to make a first-person shooter then the gunplay HAS to be good. I know that’s a statement that can be said about any other genre, but given the competition among live service first-person shooters compared to other genres, it is an absolute must. To say CrossfireX doesn’t meet that is an understatement.

There is a reason why CrossfireX has seen little marketing push, despite the series itself being one of the most played games worldwide. It’s broken. Yep, it’s worse than the single-player even, to the point that it is damn near unplayable.

Issues seen from the campaign are all present, which shouldn’t be a surprise since games generally want to keep consistency across the board. Though with this being the competitive side, it is much worse as you are now struggling against real players rather than the braindead AIs who tend to stay in one spot. Aiming is just, utter trash. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not the best player when it comes to online gaming, but even then, I can see there is a severe problem with CrossfireX’s core gameplay mechanics.

Starting a match off, my immediate thought was that the aim sensitivity and dead zones were cranked up. I was wrong, very wrong, and no amount of tweaking fixed that. This made playing matches frustrating, as it was a constant wrestle to try and kill someone. At one point I just stopped aiming with the camera and found that normal moving while shooting provided better chances. It’s abysmal. I’m not sure how anyone on the dev team thought it was playable, or acceptable, though from my understanding these are issues that were present from the beta nearly two years back (YIKES!).

Furthermore, there’s a mode called Modern that adds a bunch of modern FPS features such as aiming down sights (ADS), ledge climbing — basically features in a modern FPS like Call of Duty, or Battlefield. However, unlike the two mentioned franchises, this mode isn’t suited for CrossfireX, as mechanics feel half-baked. Like the aiming, using these mechanics is a constant struggle, with ADS being broken as it gets disruptive during firing. Smilegate has said that they are working on resolving that issue, but at the time of writing this review, it begs the question of how something so widespread made it past QA (Quality Assurance).

The second mode is called Classic, which doesn’t have all the fancy mechanics of a modern day shooter. It’s comparable to say Counter-Strike, and without a doubt is the better of two mode types.

Both of these modes have their own playlists, Modern having two (Search and Destroy, Point Capture), and Classic getting four playlist types (Search and Destroy, Spectre, TDM, and Nano). That’s a decent amount for an online shooter if I’m honest, though the issue arises when you realize there are only five maps, one each assigned to one of the five modes. So if you want to talk about a shooter being repetitive, CrossfireX is that perfect example, as you’ll be playing the exact same map in a given mode every friggin’ time.

And don’t get me wrong, I understand perfectly that the multiplayer aspect is free-to-play. However, that doesn’t excuse it from lacking in content on top of being unplayable. What makes this all worse is that it has the audacity to tack on microtransactions.

I’ve never been inclined to buy microtransactions, nor do I feel like that here. I just can’t help but chuckle that somebody expected someone to buy cosmetic skins given the state the game is in.

There are a plethora of other issues such as the UI, the matchmaking throwing players into full lobbies then kicking them, and so much more. The state of the game is not a good one to say the least.

Verdict

For someone who has only heard of Crossfire from internet chatter, and having learned it is one of the biggest games on the market outside of Western culture, I have to say, CrossfireX certainly hasn’t convince me.

There is just too much wrong with it at the moment, that despite it being free-to-play, I just can’t recommend anyone putting their time into this. There are better offerings out there for shooters. It saddens me a bit, because on underneath all the grime and junk I can see a shooter that has great potential. Maybe in a year’s time and after multiple patches it’ll be good, but that’s asking a lot, and we don’t know whether it’ll be able to get there. This is one crossfire you don’t want to take part part in.

Score: 3/10

Pros:

  • The multiplayer is free-to-play at least, with the price of the campaign being cheap enough to “fit” the value.

Cons:

  • Gameplay is broken. Nearly impossible to aim, half-baked modernized mechanics.
  • UI is a clutter, not a smooth experience to navigate.
  • Buggy
  • Campaign is dull and feels like a waste of Remedy’s potential.
  • Lacks content, becomes repetitive just after an hour of playing.

CrossfireX review code was provided by the publisher. Played on Xbox Series X. You can read SP1st and MP1st’s review and scoring policy right here.

Dauntless Update 1.77 Out for Patch 1.9.2 This Feb. 17

Phoenix Labs has released Dauntless update 1.77, and this one is for Patch 1.9.2! This brings new changes, fixes, and more to the game, so head down below for the complete patch notes on this latest update.

Dauntless Update 1.77 Patch Notes | Dauntless Update 1.9.2 Patch Notes | Dauntless February 17 Patch Notes:

Shards of Chaos Island Event

The chaos of this event was already working fairly well. We removed fauna from it to focus on the shards, and adjusted the shard spawning rules.
  • In all stages, shards are no longer connected to one of the spawned Behemoths. They will continue to appear until both Behemoths are defeated.
  • Fauna no longer spawns at any stage.

Below Zero Island Event

This event no longer has any fauna nor shock behemoths — all to create a clearer theme and flow of battle.
  • Stage 1 is now a single Behemoth fight with the Icy Grasp and Radiant Prison modifiers.
  • Stage 2 is no longer a fauna wave. It is now a dual Behemoth fight with the Icy Grasp and Radiant Prison modifiers.
  • Stage 3 is now a finale fight against either Skraev or Frostwülf with the Icy Grasp, Radiant Prison, and Frozen Stars modifiers.
  • Removed all Behemoth power alterations from this event. (Previously, Behemoths in stage 1 had decreased power while those in stage 2 had increased power.)

Dark Matter Island Event

This event has been reframed to better focus on its elemental theme and end with a more dramatic fight against the island’s guaranteed Behemoth.
  • Stage 1 now also includes Riftstalker as a potential spawn.
  • Stage 2 is no longer a creature wave. It is now a dual Behemoth fight with an umbral Behemoth and another Behemoth from the island.
  • Stage 2 now has the Umbral Instability modifier instead of the Umbral Zones modifier.

Sudden Death Island Event

In playtests, we found that Sudden Death was a fun late-game event that really tests Slayers on their knowledge of earlier Behemoths. However, we also saw low engagement when this event appeared on the island, and round two often had all players spending most of their time waiting for a revive. We’ve added a new cooldown round between the first and second that helps Slayers stay in the fight and get ready for the final battle.
  • This island event is now three stages long.
  • Stage 2 is a hold-the-point round in which bombers of various sizes will attempt to knock players out of the ring.
  • Stage 2 revives all players and restocks all equipped consumables upon completion.
  • Stage 3 is a fight against an advanced Behemoth (like Riftstalker or Stormclaw).

Infernal Gaze Island Event

Compared to the other event that appears naturally on The Blazeworks, this event had fewer rewards to offer players. It now has a third round to increase the total amount of rewards for participation. The modifiers in this event have been adjusted for a smoother ramp up in difficulty.
  • This island event is now three stages long.
  • Removed the Danger Zones modifier from stage 2.
  • Stage 3 has the Splitting Lava and Danger Zones modifiers.
  • Added Phaelanx as a potential spawn in stage 3.

High Alert Island Event

All High Alert events on every island have been tuned to create a more satisfying challenge fight that is worth taking the time to engage with. We’ve reduced the ability to stagger-lock these fights, but also reduced the Behemoth level so Slayers will no longer encounter Behemoths substantially above what’s expected on a given island.
  • Removed the time limit from this event. Watch out for the danger meter though!
  • Behemoths are now at most one level above the island they appear on.
  • Substantially increased the stagger health of Behemoths. (They are harder to stagger.)
  • Substantially increased the elemental health of Behemoths. (It is more difficult to trigger elemental effects.)
  • Increased the health of Behemoths. (Behemoths on later islands have a greater health increase.)
  • Removed all part health reductions.
  • Slightly increased the power of Behemoths.

Bounties

Some bounties were tuned to be either too high or too low, these changes will place them more in line with the rest of the other bounties in terms of time needed for completion.
  • All bounties asking players to kill Behemoths of two different elements now require 6/9/12 kills (bronze/silver/gold).
  • Increased Raw Nerves’ wound damage on enraged Behemoths from 3,000/4,500/6,000 to 15,000/22,500/30,000 (bronze/silver/gold).
  • Increased Mortal Wounds’ wound damage (with taking damage penalty) from 5,000/7,500/10,000 to 40,000/60,000/80,000 (bronze/silver/gold).
Quality of Life

Gameplay

  • Improved some collision detection for gliders.
  • Added new sounds when gliding, to better communicate speed.
Bug Fixes

Frostwülf

  • Frostwülf will now properly flee the Coldrunner Key island when the danger meter reaches 100%.

Shrowd

  • Bloodshot Shrowd’s Nightmare Dive attack damage window now matches the animation more closely. It still hurts, though.

The Chronovore

  • Fixed some skinning issues on The Chronovore’s mouth and tail, reducing the number of unsightly stretches and bends.

Sword

  • The Hunger’s special meter no longer resets on Behemoth kills when the Feast ability is not active.

Challenges

  • Various fixes to ensure challenges display properly and that challenge progress isn’t carried over from previous seasons.

Environment

  • Walking near the tree before the fourth arena in Blaze Escalation no longer results in unappealing camera zooms.
  • Fixed an invisible hole in the ground on Coldrunner Key and Boreal Outpost. It was a trap!
  • Fallen trees no longer move in the wind.

Cosmetics

  • The Age of Titans chest transmog now connects to leg armour pieces with less clipping.
  • The Elder Dustrobes chest transmog now appears less stiff. Relax.

Audio

  • Fixed an issue where island event music would fail to play and/or occasionally drop out. Music during island events will now continue all the way through until the end of the event.
  • Updated combat music transitions in Behemoth fights to more accurately reflect gameplay context.
  • Added music to The Chronoslayer event pass, the one unlocked by crafting all of the Chronovore armour pieces.

Miscellaneous

  • The bounty tokens granted as a Slayer Link reward are now premium bounty tokens, as intended.

That’s about it for the patch.

Cyberpunk 2077 Hidden Changes From Patch 1.5 Revealed

After the massive update dropped a few days ago, players have started to find the Cyberpunk 2077 hidden changes from Patch 1.5, with many remarking that it ultimately changed the game for the better. Check out a rundown of the hidden changes below and see for yourself how it will affect your gameplay moving forward.

The outline of the hidden changes comes from Reddit, taken from a YouTuber named OneDragon, which you can watch below.

Here is the outline coming from the Reddit thread by headin2sound:

In addition to reworking a majority of skill trees, CDPR has also reworked pretty much the entire character progression system through undocumented balance changes.

This is absolutely massive and completely changes the feel of the game.

Huge shoutout to OneDragon on YouTube who has started to look more into this. This video goes over a number of the most important changes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIRJHVCu7l8

  • The maximum number of mod slots you can have across all clothing items was reduced from 20 to 9
  • Legendary mods now require legendary pieces of clothing to be equipped
  • Every mod is now tied to a specific category of clothing (i.e. Deadeye crit mod can only be equipped in eyewear gear)
  • Your default crit damage has been reduced from 100% to 50% and every point in Reflexes now gives 0.25% crit chance instead of 1%
  • Crit chance and crit damage of legendary weapons has been significantly reduced across the board
  • Stat requirements on some of the best legendary weapons have been increased (i.e. Comrade’s Hammer now requires 10 body instead of 6 to use properly)
  • Legendary armadillo mods now give 75 armor per mod instead of 270
  • Evasion has been replaced with Mitigation. It is governed by 2 stats, similar to crit chance and crit damage. You have mitigation chance and mitigation amount, for example you can have a 10% chance to mitigate 50% of damage on hit.

All of these changes – and I am sure there are many more that have not been discovered yet – make builds matter much more than before. You can no longer get 100% crit chance and 500% crit damage on every character by stacking deadeye and bully mods. Combined with the improved combat AI, fights are now much harder and more tactical, which is a great change. I really love the direction this game is going in and I hope we see more of this in the future.

It’s worth noting that these hidden changes for Cyberpunk 2077 are likely just scratching the surface. CD Projekt RED has confirmed during their last news stream that there are secrets tucked away in patch 1.5 (official patch notes here). It will be up to the players to find all of the other ones that the studio have made in order to make Cyberpunk 2077 better, especially given that it has finally released for new-gen consoles.

Curious to see how the game looks on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles? Check out gameplay videos here which also note the new-gen features for Cyberpunk 2077.
