Anthem’s Version of Raids Will Have Matchmaking, Item Trading Not Allowed, PvP Not at Launch

It’s no secret that EA’s Anthem has Destiny’s fan base on its sights; given its reliance on multiplayer co-op, online worlds, missions and more. While Bungie was hardheaded (at first) in letting Destiny players matchmake randomly with other players when it came to the franchise’s end-game missions called raids, that won’t be the case with Anthem.

Over on Twitter, Executive Producer of Anthem Mark Darrah answered a fan question asking whether Anthem’s version of raids will have matchmaking.

That’s not the only question Darrah answered. When asked whether Anthem will have PvP (player vs. player), Darrah plainly said not “at launch” which means it’s most likely coming down the pipe post-launch.

Finally, Darrah also confirmed that there’s no item trading in Anthem. If you’re playing as a specific class, the item drops you’ll get will mostly be for that class, though you’ll get other stuff as well but at a lower rate.

So far, so good, Anthem seems to be moving in the right direction.

In other Anthem news, BioWare has announced that it’s already in alpha state, and the studio is mostly working on bug fixes and tweaks. EA has also detailed how players will be able to play Anthem early.

Here Are Some of the Battlefield V Helmet Customization Options Revealed So Far

It’s no secret that DICE is upping the customization game with Battlefield V. Not only are weapons more customizable than before, even character skins and helmets will be customizable as well.

For this week, DICE will be focusing on the weapons and vehicles of Battlefield V (last week’s focus was progression). But those curious about the game’s customization when it comes to helmets need not wait a lot longer. Thanks to Reddit user BFZoneFB, we now have a preliminary look at the Battlefield V helmet customization options available! Note that these are just collected images from the different gameplay reveals an screenshots, and as such, not the final total. Check out some of the confirmed helmets players will be able to choose from in Battlefield V!

Seeing as DICE hasn’t gone in-depth with Battlefield V’s customization options, we’re left in the dark in some areas. To date, it hasn’t been confirmed whether players will be able to customize their soldiers’ faces (highly unlikely) or if there’ll be presets that players can choose from. Also, how do headgear customization work? Will players be able to choose a different headgear, and then a different uniform? Lots of questions left up in the air, which DICE will most likely answer soon.

In other Battlefield V news, DICE confirmed that we might see new classes come to the game post-launch. Check out this info-filled recap by DICE where a lot of player concerns are addressed.

Bumper Year for Video Game Industry

Source: Pixabay.

In a year which will be remembered for high-quality games like Fortnite: Battle Royale and Far Cry 5, it is no surprise to discover that the video game industry has enjoyed huge financial success. Consumers are increasingly seeking a flexible gaming experience, which is why online gaming and mobile gaming have been two fruitful avenues for video game developers. This success in the industry will encourage more innovation in years ahead as companies seek to replicate the financial rewards of 2018.

Fortune have reported that consumer expenditure on video games rose by 40% in the first half of 2018 in the United States, taking customer spending to $19.5 billion. With investments in video game hardware already reaching their highest total for seven years even before the lucrative festive period, this is an exciting time for those in the industry. The bar has been set high for future years, so there will be an onus on innovation in order to match these numbers.

Industries with a heavy emphasis on technology are in a constant process of development, with new technological capabilities informing new business directions. This has been evident in the music industry, with streaming becoming the dominant means of consumption, and in the battle for supremacy in the online movies market. Video gaming has undergone a similar shift. While there is still a demand for individual games with a narrative focus, games now largely live and die on the strength of their online modes.

best match 3 games

The rise in the gaming industry has encompassed a variety of products, from match-3 games like Candy Crush to online multiplayer games like Fortnite. However, more traditional modes of gaming, like card games and board games, have also embraced the online model. For instance, people who enjoy the occasional card game either alone or with friends have benefitted from the number of new online casinos that are launching to cater for the growing demand. In such a competitive market, the need to find a unique selling point is imperative, both for the operators offering them and consumers looking out for them.

With the above in mind, the tradition of sharing a sofa with fellow gamers is quickly disappearing. While being in the same room as a gaming opponent has its benefits, the scope of online gaming allows players to instantly connect with a diverse set of contemporaries from across the globe. There are always players waiting to join an online game, giving gamers an almost boundless level of flexibility when it comes to scheduling their gaming. The biggest restricting factor comes with maintaining an internet connection, but this is becoming less of an issue in an increasingly connected world.

Fortnite 4.5 Patch Notes

Source: Fortnite via Facebook.

Therefore, a game that fails to offer a well-constructed online option is likely to suffer. A look at the most popular games of 2018 reinforces this argument. Fortnite will be remembered as the defining game of 2018, with its unprecedented success destined to have ramifications on the development of games in the upcoming years. Few will have remained oblivious to the game’s rampant success, such is its prominence in popular culture.

The numbers that display Fortnite’s success are staggering. Fortnite: Battle Royale has broken financial records for free-to-play games, raking in $318 million in May 2018 alone. Electing to create a Battle Royale style of game (fighting to the death to be the last player standing) is credited with propelling Fortnite’s success to astronomical levels. Over the next few years, companies larger than Fortnite’s creator Epic Games Inc will no doubt offer up huge quantities of money in an attempt to replicate the success.

Whether those attempts prove fruitful, only time will tell. Fortnite took inspiration from huge gaming franchises like Call of Duty but added the clever twist of taking all of the excitement online. It is this emphasis on online gaming that will guide game development in the next few years. The rise of consumer spending on video games in 2018 shows that the demand for high-quality gaming is not going anywhere.

Bungie Trademarks “Matter” and It’s for “Computer Game Software”

While Bungie just released the latest expansion for Destiny 2 called “Forsaken,” the studio seems to be busy with other projects too. Could the Bungie next game title just been leaked by the European trademark office?

Bungie has filed an unknown intellectual property called “Matter” to the European Union Intellectual Property Office, and it’s for “computer game software,” and also mentions, “downloadable video games via the internet and wireless devices.”

Check out a screenshot of the “Goods and Services” section of the filing (via

Not only that, but the filing even has a logo!

Is this part of Destiny? A new title after Destiny perhaps? Or something completely different? Your guess is as good as ours at this point. Don’t forget, Bungie can make games outside of Activision who’s publishing the Destiny franchise, so there’s a chance that the studio is making whatever Matter is with another publisher.

What do you think Matter is? Are you excited to see what the studio can do outside the Destiny franchise?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Mod Tools for PC Being Looked at by Treyarch, Won’t Be Available at Launch

Those looking forward to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on PC, not only are you getting (in theory) the best-looking version of the game at launch, but the prospect of having fan-made content too. Treyarch has now gone on record regarding the Black Ops 4 mod tools for PC, and it looks like it will be coming, though not just at launch.

Over on Twitter, Treyarch’s official account for anything PC related (TreyarchPC) answered a fan’s question about Black Ops 4 mod tools by saying it’s something the studio is looking at, but it won’t be ready at launch.

For those curious, Black Ops 3 on PC did have mod tools available eventually, though it took close to a year before it came out. Will Treyarch take as long for the Black Ops 4 mod tools? We can’t say for sure, but at least the possibility is there, right?

In other Black Ops 4 news, Activision has spoken out on the possibility of the game having cross-platform play, which you can read about here. You can read more info about Black Ops 4’s Zombies mode right here, or if you prefer general info about the multiplayer and Blackout, then we also have that.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will shoot out to the PS4, Xbox One, and PC this October 12.

Report: Red Dead Redemption 2 Early Copies Are Out in the Wild

While Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption is still a few weeks out from its October 26 release date, it seems some people have managed to get their mitts on it already! Yep, it seems Red Dead Redemption 2 early access users are out in the wild!

Spotted over on Reddit (1, 2) , there are multiple screenshots of people on PSN playing Red Dead Redemption 2! Check out the screenshots below as “proof.”

So how do some people manage to get the game early? There’s a few different ways. Either the people playing on PSN are developers/employees of Rockstar who obviously have access to the game, someone from press (media) got a review copy early (kind of unlikely given how far off we are from release), somebody nicked a copy from production or distribution,or it’s a hoax. We’re not sure which, but given how much people are anticipating Red Dead Redemption 2, then don’t be surprised if somebody took the chance in stealing a few copies just to play early or to sell it.

If this is the real deal, then I suggest avoiding YouTube videos about it given how annoying some people are in posting spoilers.

Which scenario do you think is more probable? Do you know anyone who has it already or has access to it? If so, let us know in the comments.

In other Red Dead Redemption 2 news, don’t forget to check out our info blowout that details the story, combat, controls and more.

Rumor: Rocksteady Justice League Game Coming in 2019. Will Be for Next-Gen Platforms

We’re diving deep into rumor territory here, folks! So prepre your popcorn. Having said that, there’s more in this Rocksteady new game report than your standard rumor, so it’s worth reporting on.

Rocksteady Studios, the developer behind the Batman Arkham franchise, has been silent on the games front ever since Batman: Arkham Knight was released back in 2015. Well, unless yo count Batman: Arkham VR which was less than a game but more of a tech demo for Sony’s PlayStation VR, and that was released in 2016. So what has the studio been up to all these years? Apparently, it’s a game based on the Justice League, and there’s a ton of rumored details about it that’s come to light.

According to a new anonymous post on 4chan, Rocksteady isn’t just working on a Justice League game, but that said title will come next year, and what’s more, it’s for the next-gen systems! Yep, you heard that right! Allegedly, this new Justice League game which is based on the “Crisis” DC storyline will be for the PS5 or Xbox Scarlett (codename of the successor to the Xbox One).

Thanks to Reddit user virgilhawkins17, we have the easier-to-digest info in bulletpoint form below!

  • Possible titles – Justice League: Crisis, Justice League: New Crisis, Justice League: Infinite Crisis. Seems they haven’t settled on a title yet, but they have a new staple in Crisis. Kind of like how Arkham was to their Batman series.
  • Developer – Rocksteady
  • Systems – Xbox Scarlett/PS5/PC. You’ll hear more details on Xbox’s new system later this year with a full reveal early 2019. PS5 will be announced in early 2019 as well.
  • Type – Single Player/Co-op. You can switch between characters like in Arkham Knight. The campaign can be played both ways, but there’s also a different game mode catered to multiplayer. Also, it’s GaaS, so expect a ton of DLC content. They’re gonna have something similar to Hitman with episodic DLC.
  • Characters – Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash(Pretty sure it’s Wally), Green Lantern(Hal), Cyborg, Aquaman.
  • Cities – Metropolis, Gotham, Keystone(why I said it’s probably Wally), more others through DLC. Each city is a bit bigger than AK, and just as detailed.
  • Villains – Main big bad is Starro. As the episodic stuff rolls out you’ll see Brainiac and even Darkseid.
  • Story – All the heroes are pretty early on in their careers. Batman’s still considered an urban legend to anyone outside of Gotham, Superman isn’t the “world protector” yet, and WW is still on Themyscira. Aquaman’s still in the sea, GL is in space, and Wally isn’t even a hero yet.
  • Gameplay – From what I hear, it plays just like the Arkham games, except more refined and “opened up”. Guessing that’s for the heroes that can fly and such.
  • DLC – A lot of the DLC will have new cities and new playable characters. Green Arrow, Hawkgirl, Martian Manhunter and probably a lot more. They’re expecting this game to last for years, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this game ended up being like Destiny in the sense that it gets updated constantly.

Got that? The tl;dr version is: Rocksteady is working on a Justice League game, which doesn’t have a title yet though it will have multiplayer. It will be a GaaS game (games as a service), will have episodic content, will have a slew of DLC, and is apparently set for release in 2019 for the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett.

So, how does this one have merit compared to the thousands of rumors floating about? First off, the rumor names Starro as the main villain, which, if you think about it is kind of lame given Starro is a giant starfish. You have most likely seen Starro in one of the DC storylines or in one of the animated movies that’s out there right now. Here’s what he/she/it looks like:

Rocksteady has been known to leave Easter eggs in their games that points to their next project. In Arkham Asylum, there was the secret room. In Arkham City, there was Scarecrow’s barge, and in Arkham Knight’s DLC  :Batgirl: A Matter of Family,” there’s a hidden Starro Easter egg where you can even see Starro hidden in a gigantic test tube! Check the video.

Add in Rocksteady’s recent job hirings (multiplayer testersnetwork codersspecialized GaaS managers) and the fact that they were specifically hiring for “next gen” and for people with “broad comic book knowledge,” and it seems to fit somehow.

Another feather in this rumor cap? The domain justiceleaguecrisis.com is owned by Warner Bros., and was recently updated this year. Also of note, the Batman Arkham subreddit mods quietly took down the posts, which is weird since they usually file these posts under rumors/leaks and whatnot.

Sounds good to be true? Yeah, seems like it, no? We’ve reached out to Rocksteady Studios’ parent company Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and will update the story if and when we get a response.

In the meantime, speculate and weigh in on what you think of this latest rumor in the comments below.

PlayStation Experience 2018 Not Happening According to Sony

For those wondering why we still haven’t heard anything about this year’s PlayStation Experience, there’s a simple answer to that: PlayStation Experience 2018 is not happening, that’s why!

This news tidbit was confirmed by Sony PlayStation Worldwide Studios boss Shawn Layden in the latest PlayStation Blogcast stating, “For 2018, I know this is going to be a disappointment to some people, but we decided to not hold PlayStation Experience this year.”

That’s a bummer. This dashes all hope that a PS5 tease might happen. Then again, with the way Sony’s been delivering the goods this year, we can’t really fault the company for skipping one gaming event.

In other PlayStation news, Sony has finally allowed cross-platform play, and it’s starting with Fortnite! We also posted a new story wherein the PlayStation Music channel has seemingly confirmed The Last of Us Part II will ship next year.

Official Battlefield V Weekly Debrief Gives Us the Latest News & Feedback for the Week

In case you haven’t been paying attention to Battlefield V news, developer DICE has certainly stepped up their game when it comes to sharing info about the upcoming shooter. There’s Q&A stuff happening, and even a roadmap on when DICE will be ready to talk about certain BFV topics.

Continuing this trend of sharing with Battlefield V, DICE has posted a “weekly debrief” of the things discussed for the past seven days, and not only that, but the studio even shared a long (and I mean long) list of stuff that they learned from the Battlefield V beta! Without further ado, check ’em out.

  • What We Learned from Battlefield V’s Open Beta
    • General
      • The community at-large agrees with most of the changes we’re making – they’re solid.
    • Bleed Out System
      • Some players feel this doesn’t make sense to have it on specific modes. Will this be turned off for some modes?
David Sirland (MP Producer): No, the Bleed Out system is a part of the general death experience.
      • Request to keep the ‘Hold to Skip Revive’. Some players don’t like to hold a button for passive action.
DS: We are shipping with what is in now (what you saw in Open Beta but tuned the timers.)
    • Vehicles
      • The community feels that the insight was great. Changes are spot on.
      • Some players feel the range of some tanks seems to be too long. Make them shorter.
DS: Open Beta featured medium and heavy tanks, and they only represent part of the vehicles. These tanks need that range for the larger levels. Tank systemic damage and angular systems for AT ordinance is also different now.
    • Heat Maps
      • The community thought these were fascinating and informative.
    • Pacing
      • In general, the community are fans of the peaks and lulls in gameplay.
      • There are differing viewpoints on Attrition.
    • Visuals
      • Requests to address visual haze.
DS: If we’re talking about the visual haze we showed in recent dev talk video that was a work in progress and the first test. We will continue to update on the solution we will ship with (as we iterate). We hope to provide more details in future dev talks.
      • Requests to bring back 3D spotting.
DS: The game pacing, systems, and more tactical approach necessitates the current approach to spotting. We are not bringing it back in any forms not already covered, like the Recon gadgets (spotting flare, etc.).
    • Resupply
      • Holding to resupply or heal is not favored by some. They feel it needs to be quick button tap.
DS: This has been changed to be a button press.
    • Squad Follow Screen
      • Some want the ability to skip this.
DS: We are looking closer at how we can improve this, particularly after we ship the game.
    • Servers
      • There is a desire from players that dedicated servers are delivered.
DS: We’re digging into this. Wish we had more information right now but let us get our plans to a solid state so we can share with you something substantial.
    • Progression
      • Players want to ensure that we don’t force players to purchase multiple version of a gun to customize it several ways.
DS: Noted. We’ll address in next week’s Weapons & Vehicles focus.
      • Actual stats of upgrades are missing from the UI. Players want to see these.
DS: Again, hope to provide more detail next week as we focus on Weapons.
    • Customization
      • Are visual customizations going to be class specific?
DS: No, not at launch. However, there are faction specific things (like Axis/Allies).
    • Netcode
      • Want to see more details on netcode changes.
DS: We will get into this once we have more to show. It’s still a bit too early to get into the weeds with netcode.
  • The Countdown to Battlefield V Launch
    • General
      • Want to see gameplay attached to weekly communications focus.
DS: Our aim is to prove all claims with more gameplay footage. You’ll see more visual representation in upcoming Dev Talks as well.
    • Game Improvements
      • A lot of detail is being released after launch. Community wants to see how the game is improving and a roadmap as such
DS: Noted! We know you want a visual roadmap so we’re working on solutions.
      • Ensure prominent information on team balance improvements, addressing latency, and how-to shepherd OOR players.
DS: Like netcode, we will get into this once we have more to show. It’s still a bit too early to get into the weeds on this one.
    • Community Tools
      • The community wants to know more about Community Tools such as RSP, Platoons, Spectator, Esports, Battlelog/Companion App, VOiP / Team / Prox chat
DS: Oh yes, we know you need more detail on this. We’ll get into it when we have substantial updates to share with you.
    • Firestorm
      • Requests to ensure that Firestorm has Solo and Duo modes.
DS: We aren’t quite ready to dive into details here but hope to provide more info in the upcoming Firestorm focus week.
    • Tides of War
      • Players want to see Tides of War roadmap detailing maps, factions, weapons, vehicles, etc.
DS: Again, we know you want a visual roadmap so we’re working on solutions.
      • Desire to see release pacing details.
DS: Yup! Working on roadmap details.
      • Want to know duration commitment of live service.
DS: Although we haven’t confirmed specific duration, we are committed to a multi-year live service.
    • Combined Arms
      • Want more info on Combined Arms.
      • DS: Oh, we know. We’ll get into it when we can.
    • Release Roadmap
      • Want to see a roadmap of when features come online: Combined Arms, Firestorm, etc., and game features such as dragging bodies.
      • Want to see roadmap on cosmetics and customization.
DS: We’re working on Tides of War roadmaps.
    • Customization
      • More on soldier customization such as slots for clothing, helmets, gear, etc.
      • DS: Stay tuned as we’ll detail out Progression & Customization in future
      • More info on load out slots for soldiers / vehicles / weapons.
      • DS: Info on Weapons & Vehicles coming next week!
    • PC Details
      • Desire for Ansel info.
      • Desire for benchmarking info.
      • Address the following: there was tweet that I saw earlier today, and it mention about the state of Direct X 12, and Multi-GPU configuration profiles. BF1 dropped the ball on dx12 since the first monthly patch which hinder it buggy. Upscaling in multi-GPU wasn’t very favorable as well.
DS: We will be recording a dev talk around PC specifically, and it will most likely also includes RTX and DLSS goodies too.
    • Weapons
      • Want to hear more about total amount of weapons at launch.
      • Weapons for each class at launch.
DS: Diving into this next week as we focus on Weapons in an upcoming blog.
    • Maps
      • Showcase size of maps.
DS: We can make sure this is part of the maps week dev talks with an overlay of all map sizes with Rotterdam as a template. We’ll also ensure we discuss maps at length in an upcoming blog.
  • Classes & Combat Roles
    • General
      • Glad to see custom soldiers less of an emphasis. Toning down of customization is boding well but want to see some slight alteration availability.
      • Good to see more authentic WW2 soldiers.
      • Very excited to see this more realistic direction of soldiers.
      • Favoring only two choices in the beginning. Looking forward to post-launch roles.
      • Some like that there is no hard limits of primary weapons or gadgets across Combat Roles within Classes.
      • The defined directions these Combat Roles take will give enough stimulus to players during matches to consciously switch to different ones (Assault Light Infantry vs Tank Buster for example, two completely different paths).
      • There’s plenty of room in each class for more Combat Roles to be added (Grenadier for Assault comes to mind) which should mean a healthy amount more Combat Roles coming with the Tides of War.
      • The Recon Pathfinder Combat Role is extremely interesting as it could be a Role used to break out of a difficult situation. More spawn points might also break the “flag running” meta that spawned with Battlefield 1, as people will be able to choose from a larger selection of map positions rather than just flags and 3 squad mates. The fact this is also a Recon class Role helps break the camping feel of the class and pushes those soldiers into front line action.
    • Questions
      • Can you switch between roles mid combat?
      • Tommy Rydling (Game Designer): You need to be in the deploy screen to do so, i.e. you cannot swap while alive.
      • Are there max Combat Roles per Squad?
      • TR: A Squad of 4 players can contain any mix of Combat Roles without limitations.
      • There’s concern that the Combat Roles don’t see parity with each other. One role is far superior to the other in each class, so rather than have variety between the two roles in Recon, for example, everyone will most likely pick Pathfinder.
      • TR: I think “far superior” is open to debate, but the goal is to cater for different playstyles and situations.
      • If we pick a Combat Role, will we be restricted on loadout choices?
      • TR: No. Combat Role does not affect your loadout of weapons and gadgets in any way whatsoever.
      • Melee Expert Trait needs to be looked at.
      • TR: New design checked in today. Melee Expert has slightly longer melee reach, and slightly bigger takedown acceptance angle than normal soldiers, but not from front.
      • Sniper Combat Role is a rather selfish one; to me it doesn’t play into the Squad Play focus Battlefield V is trying to push. Both traits benefit the player and don’t pass on anything to the rest of the Squad, unless the traits are being used to save squad mates from being killed (Savior Kills etc.)
      • TR: Traits are not the only teamplay items in a Combat Role/Class. Your gadgets within the Recon Class are mostly teamplay oriented, like the Flare Gun, Spotting Scope, and Spawn Beacon.
    • Assault Class Feedback
      • Customization looks great, soldiers look great. This is the soldier customization the community wants to see.
    • Medic Class
      • Melee one-hit kills is concerning a few. Mentions that this could be abused and basically turn a medic into an Elite Class from BF1 if they can run around constantly with 1-hit melee kills.
      • TR: As stated above, new design checked in today. Melee Expert has slightly longer melee reach, and slightly bigger takedown acceptance angle than normal soldiers, but not from front.
      • The increased speed when calling out to downed team mates is seen as good.
      • Recommendations for a Combat Role (future) to have multiple smoke grenades and instant revive syringe – Emergency Medic.
      • TR: This is interesting. We’ll look into it.
    • Recon Class
      • Steadying the scope should not be locked to the Sniper specialization, it should be set to the scopes with high magnification.
      • TR: All Recon Class Combat Roles can do this – Sniper has extended duration. Base duration is on par with BF1.
  • Battlefield V Classes & Combat Roles AMAA
    • Main Takeaways
      • TR: For Melee Expert Trait, we need to find a tweak that does not require code changes. So, a new design checked in today. Melee Expert has slightly longer melee reach, and slightly bigger takedown acceptance angle than normal soldiers, but not from front.
      • TR: For Pathfinder Combat Role, after discussing internally, we will limit this to Spawn Beacons only.

Don’t forget, DICE has said that it’ll discuss the weapons and vehicles of Battlefield V next week. There’s also a chance of new classes being introduced to the game after its November 20 launch date.

Report: The Last of Us 2 Release Date Set for 2019 According to Official PlayStation Music Channel

While Sony has released gameplay footage of The Last of Us Part II, the publisher and even developer Naughty Dog has been coy as to when we’ll exactly see the next chapter in the apocalyptic-themed action game.

With most of Sony’s big guns already out (ie: Marvel’s Spider-Man, etc.), some might assume that The Last of Us 2 release date will be sometime this 2019 given the long wait from its announcement back in 2016. Well, it seems the official PlayStation Music YouTube channel might have accidentally confirmed that The Last of Us 2 2019 release date (thanks to Reddit user BostonMIT)! In a series of videos the channel published as part of Naughty Dog’s Outbreak Day for The Last of Us, it lists The Last of Us Part II for 2019!

Before anyone assumes that the PlayStation Music YouTube channel is a fan-made entity, the channel is linked to the official PlayStation Spotify, and PlayStation Music even got its own official press release.

Of course, this isn’t official confirmation at all, though PlayStation Music does list the release year for the other games the channel has in its playlist. And every The Last of Us Part II video the channel has, you guessed it, 2019 tagged.

We’ve reached out to Sony and will update the story if and when we hear anything back.

Dirt Rally 2 Release Date Announced

Codemasters, the developer behind the popular racing series DiRT, has announced a sequel to DiRT Rally, aptly named DiRT Rally 2.0, which will launch on February 26, 2019.

The newest installment to the rally franchise will include six rally locations and an unnamed amount of cars to rally with. Players will also be able to race their friends directly on eight World RX circuits at launch.

If you’re looking to pre-order the game, you’re in luck. Anyone who merely pre-orders the game will net a fancy Porsche 911 R GT rally spec as a bonus. For those who are looking to get all the goodies, pre-ordering the deluxe edition gets you the following.

  • Porsche 911 R GT Rally Spec
  • First two season of post-launch content(three locations each)
  • Five early vehicle unlocks
    • Ford Escort MkII
    • Lancia Stratos
    • Subaru Impreza 1995
    • AUDI Sport quattro S1 E2
    • Ford Fiesta OMSE SuperCar Lite
  • Four days early access

To clarify that last part, Codemasters seems to be following EA’s approach by offering players the ability to pay more to play early, effectively making the launch of DiRT Rally 2.0 for Deluxe pre-order owners February 22.

The game launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Activision: “A Lot of Work to Do” for Destiny, Overwatch, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Cross-Play to Happen

With Sony announcing that it’s finally allowing cross-platform play starting with Fortnite, it’s understandable that most gamers are salivating at the thought of having their old — and upcoming — multiplayer games playable with the player base of the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch included.

If you’re counting on cross-play for games like Destiny 2, Overwatch, or the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, well, you’re out of luck. In a statement given by an Activision spokesperson to IGN (via GamesIndustry), the publisher confirmed that there’s “a lot of work to do” to before this becomes a reality.

We’ve had a great experience with cross-play for Hearthstone on other platforms and have witnessed how compelling it can be for our community. There’s still a lot of work to do on both our side and the platform side to understand whether cross-play might be integrated into our other games, so we’ll be watching the upcoming test and will assess what the potential impact of this feature would be for our players and our games.

Given that the announcement was just made a few days ago, I wouldn’t expect most AAA games to be joining the cross-play party anytime soon. Case in point? Bethesda has confirmed that the upcoming online action RPG Fallout 76 won’t support cross-play.
