Battlefield 5 Multiplayer Trailer Has More Action, Fewer Metal Claws

During the EA Play 2018 presentation, DICE revealed a new Battlefield 5 multiplayer trailer, showing off the game’s main component. Unlike previous EA shooter multiplayer reveals, there was no lengthy livestream showcasing the multiplayer in uncut fashion. Instead, we’re left with a single 2-minute trailer that squeezes in as many new features as possible.

You can watch the Battlefield 5 multiplayer trailer below:

Every battle is unique. Every mode its own challenge. Battlefield V multiplayer provides unmatched intensity and scale in a sandbox of all-out war.

Take on classic modes like Conquest or experiences like Grand Operations, where you’ll participate in vast historical battles across multiple maps – and modes – and relive moments of bravery and desperation while fighting your way to the final objective.

Battlefield 5 is set to launch on October 19, available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Fortnite Spawn Island Reached by Epic Shopping Cart Jump

The Fortnite spawn island has been reached using the new shopping cart item. Though I first assumed it was clickbait, like most of the other Fortnite content out there on YouTube, the video embedded below is completely legit.

OrangeGuy is the user who achieved this first. Check out the video below:

Pretty epic stuff, right? Let us know what you think of the new Fortnite shopping cart in the comments below.

In other Fortnite news, the 4.3 update has been rolled out and adds shopping carts and more, a PUBG vs Fortnite legal battle has begun in Korea, and a summer 2018 target has been set for Fortnite Android.

Fortnite Shotgun Nerf Hits Hard, Traps Receive a Huge Buff

Epic Games has implemented a new Fortnite update which includes a shotgun nerf and trap buff. You can read up on what exactly has changed below:

Fortnite Shotgun Nerf and Trap Buff

Shotguns

For a while we felt that Shotguns promoted healthy close quarter gameplay, however with the recent equip time changes, Shotguns are being used more often than we like. It’s something we’ve been keeping an eye on, but broadly speaking we feel Shotguns are a little too strong in their current state. As a result, we’re making these adjustments:

  • Pump Shotgun
    • Headshot multiplier reduced from 2.5 to 2.0
    • Damage reduced from 90/95 to 80/85
  • Tactical Shotgun
    • Headshot multiplier reduced from 2.5 to 2.0

Shotgun consistency across the board is also something we’re looking into and aim to improve. We want to make it more apparent when you hit or miss a shot. In addition to that, making sure the accuracy is more consistent and improving other odd behaviors with the weapon is a top priority. We’ve identified a number of issues that we’re currently working on solving in the near future.

Traps

We made a large change to traps a few weeks ago to test decreasing damage from 125 to 75. This was done in an effort to better understand the impact traps have throughout a match. The change sparked a great deal of excellent discussion about traps and we are going to lean more into improving their effectiveness. We want this to add more ways for you to be potent in combat. Here’s the change:

  • Trap Damage increased from 75 to 150

Sennheiser MKH 416 Review: The Endgame YouTube/Twitch Microphone?

Reviewing the Sennheiser MKH 416 in 2018 requires a little creativity, to make sure that I’m adding something new to the conversation. You see, the MKH 416 has been in use for over 40 years, and has seen a hell of a lot of action from professionals in film and TV, in addition to being a favorite mic for voiceover artists. A lot of people love this microphone, with many calling it a “forever mic” or the “endgame.” It remains super popular and has been reviewed many, many times.

So, to make sure I’m telling you something original, I’ll be talking specifically about using the MKH 416 as a video game/livestreaming/YouTube content creation tool. If you’re a full-time Twitch streamer or YouTuber, you’ll likely agree that audio is just as important as video. A microphone that makes you sound great and gets your personality across is essential. An “endgame” microphone for us would be great-sounding and durable, but also easy to set up, forget, and know that it’s going to work when it’s called upon. As you move on from doing YouTube or Twitch as a hobby, to having it as a part-time or full-time job, you’ll often be willing to invest more cash into your equipment.

The Sennheiser MKH 416 is a $1000 microphone, and so it goes without saying that you’ve got to be pretty serious about creating content. In the box, you get the case (which is great for traveling), and inside the case you get the mic, a little clip to attach to a stand, a windshield, and some paperwork.

Once you’ve got it hooked up, the microphone’s supercardioid pattern means it has an incredible tight focus on the direction it is pointing in. This allows the user to hone in on a specific point, usually the mouth, with background noise mostly ignored. This makes it great for outdoor use, but it’s also fantastic indoors, where noisy neighbours or traffic driving by can cause issues.

As a shotgun microphone that is often kept out of shot — so about a foot or so away — the MKH 416 can get great audio quality from a distance. However, as I’ve seen with various voice actors, this mic can also be used closer to the subject for more presence and richness. Basically, it’s versatile. If you’re a streamer using a webcam, it might be cool to keep the microphone out of the shot, making the show a bit more natural. If you’re a YouTuber who’s reading a script or narrating, the MKH 416 can be brought in closer. Keep it off axis and you don’t have to worry about those popping “P” plosives, and it’s out of the way enough so that you can still see the script or gameplay.

After using the Shure SM7B for four years, and loving most of the things about it, I have to say that the MKH 416 offers some big advantages that the Shure does not. My main gripe with the SM7B is that you’re supposed to keep it very close to your mouth for the optimal quality. As you move a few more inches away, the quality suffers. This has made me very conscious of where I am in relation to the mic, which isn’t great when I’m trying to focus on a game or trying to “stay natural” for a script read.

Also, unlike the Shure SM7B and other dedicated voiceover mics, the MKH 416 can easily be unplugged and used in conjunction with a camera and recorder for non-gaming content. The shotgun mic can be used for an occasional funny skit or coverage of a gaming event like E3. It has more than just that one use, and is renowned for being built like a tank.

For my voice in this untreated room, I think the MKH 416 does well. After using the SM7B for so long, and having it right up close to my face, it kind of blows my mind to have the MKH 416 picking up great audio from much further away. It also uses a lot less gain, though you will need 48V Phantom Power.

At $1000, of course you’re going to have to think hard about dropping that kind of money on a microphone. However, if you are at the stage where you’re hunting for that final microphone — that endgame piece of kit that you can buy and use for the rest of your video creating career — the MKH 416 could be for you. It boasts great audio quality with all of the benefits of a shotgun microphone. It’s versatile, can be used for just about anything, and is built to last.

The MKH 416 microphone was provided (on loan) to Pixel Enemy by Sennheiser. You can learn more about this product by visiting the Sennheiser website here.

You can find our Review Policy and Scoring System detailed here.

Report: Fortnite Switch Appears on Leaked E3 Pamphlet

If this newly-leaked pamphlet is to be believed, Fortnite Switch is set to be revealed during at Nintendo’s E3 2018 press booths. In the area where press and public can get hands on new and upcoming games, Fortnite Switch will apparently be joining the likes of Fifa 19 and Paladins.

You can see Fortnite Switch at the top of the image embedded below:

fortnite switch

Of course, it’s possible that this Fortnite Switch image is completely fake, as Photoshop is a thing, but having the hugely-successful battle royale game running on Nintendo Switch seems perfectly reasonable. If it does happen, the already ridiculously popular Fortnite will wrack up even more players.

Yes, it looks like Fortnite will soon be taking over the entire planet, regardless of platform. Embrace it, or it will destroy you.

Let us know what you think of Fortnite Switch in the comments below.

Report: Fallout 76 to Be an Online Survival RPG

It seems like the recently announced Fallout 76 will be an online RPG experience, according to the consistently reliable Jason Schreier of Kotaku. According to Schreier, three people familiar with the project have confirmed that Fallout 76 will be an “online survival RPG that’s heavily inspired by games like DayZ and Rust.”

Fallout 76 will reportedly be an “experimental new entry in the long-running post-apocalyptic series.” The game is apparently being created at Bethesda’s main office in Maryland and also at the new Austin location.

Watch the official teaser trailer for Fallout 76 from award-winning creators Bethesda Game Studios.

See more during this year’s Bethesda E3 Showcase happening on June 10th at 6:30pm PT in Los Angeles, CA or live on YouTube.com/BethesdaSoftworks or Twitch.TV/Bethesda.

Expect to learn a lot more about Fallout 76 and its rumored online functions during the Bethesda E3 2018 showcase. Bethesda is renowned for showcasing a lot of content during its E3 presentations, so expect to see a good chunk of info on the game and probably some Fallout 76 gameplay. (Fingers crossed!)

PUBG PC Update 14 Patch Notes: Weapon and Attachment Tweaks, Performance Boost and More

The PUBG PC Update 14 patch notes have been released, giving players a look at what’s being changed and improved. The main changes focus on weapon and attachments tweaks, as well as throwables like grenades. Read the full list of patch notes below.

PUBG PC Update 14 Patch Notes

Gameplay

Improvements have been made to throwables (frag grenades, stun grenades, and molotovs).

2.jpg.cb79be230b1673980947020579b54d19.jpg

  • Increased frag grenade damage and effective range
    • Frags previously had to be within 2.6m of player models to deal lethal damage. They now deal lethal damage within 3.5m, moderate damage from 3.5m through 8.5m, and low damage from 8.5m through 10m.
  • Stun grenades’ blinding effects have been improved
    • First, let’s explain some terms. “Direct effect” is defined as stun grenade explosions occurring within a 100˚ angle of the player’s visual field. “Indirect effect” occurs when stun grenades explode outside of that “direct effect” range and players are within 5.5m of the explosion
    • The maximum effective range of stun grenade has been increased to 20m
    • Depending on distance from the explosion, the direct effect can blind the player for a maximum of 5.5 seconds, and a minimum of one second (when 20m away).
    • Depending on distance from the explosion, the indirect effect can blind the player for a maximum of three seconds.
    • Characters blinded by a stun grenade now cover their faces. This is a new animation.
    • Spectators are now also blinded when spectating someone hit with a stun grenade
    • Stun grenades will now briefly blind and deafen the thrower if they explode behind their back when cooked.
    • You’ll now be unable to ADS while blinded.
  • Molotov cocktails now have new effects and their damage has been increased.
    • Molotovs can now deal indirect damage and burn damage (as damage over time), depending on whether or not you’re standing directly in the flames. If you’re in the flames you’ll take both types of damage.
    • Indirect damage (taken when standing in the flames) has been increased from 10 to 12.5 damage per second.
    • After catching fire, players will take burn damage as damage over time (10 damage per second) for a total of four seconds.
    • You’ll now be unable to ADS while taking burn damage.
    • Flames now spread further along wooden surfaces in houses
Flames from Molotovs spread further if another Molotov is thrown on top of the flames.
    • A new animation has been added for character models who are suffering burn damage. They’ll attempt to pat out the flames using their hands.
  • Adjusting some weapon and attachment balance:
    • Reduced vertical and horizontal recoil of the SCAR-L

New Anti-Cheat Tech

3.png.bc0d70640debf52d8a896bd7e0c79222.png

Note: This new anti-cheat tech will be applied to the test servers soon.

We’ve added a new anti-cheat solution, developed in-house at PUBG Corp. Before we implement this tech on live servers, we’d first like to see how it works out on the test server. For this, we’ll need your help!

Expect to see a new popup when you start the client. It’d be more helpful for us if you run the anti-cheat tool using “SECURITY MODE,” but if that gives you problems, please choose “COMPATIBILITY MODE.”

Performance

In last week’s dev blog we wrote in detail about upcoming work we’ll be doing to increase performance holistically. Many of these fixes will take time to deliver, but we’ve already finished a handful of fixes that should make a positive difference:

  • We’ve improved the character model rendering process to prevent some small frame drop issues.
  • We’ve optimized character movement and animation while skydiving to improve framerate when multiple players are nearby.
  • We’ve made some improvements to our network code to reduce network latency.
  • We’ve increased the speed at which the server transfers data about objects (items, doors, fences) to address the fact that sometimes items spawn in late after players parachute in.
  • We’ve improved some inefficient processes with the way the server updates certain frames on vehicles and character models. This should resolve resolve some abnormal physics affecting vehicles.

Sound

  • You can now toggle the new HRTF (Head Related Transfer Function) sound feature in the options menu (for opponent’s gunshot sounds only). The feature, which simulates fully three dimensional sound even for two-channel stereo headphones, was explained in greater detail in our dev blog last week.
  • Reduced the volume of the care package airplane.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed some issues causing abnormal collisions in spots on Erangel and Miramar.
  • Characters should no longer get stuck while vaulting in particular spots around Erangel.
  • Fixed an issues allowing characters to pass through objects in certain locations on Miramar.
  • Improved the accuracy of the throwing trajectory indicator for stun grenades
  • Fixed a visual glitch in the inventory screen that occurred when attaching a choke to the sawed-off .
  • Fixed an issue that was resulting in some strange collisions if players ever jumped on top of a vehicle which had players in it.
  • Scope zeroing on the crossbow is no longer incorrectly enabled and set to an incorrect value by default.
  • Fixed an issue causing stun grenades to appear to bounce around for while after breaking a window.
  • Fixed an issue where the cheek pad’s vertical recoil control attribute was excluded in in-game tooltip.
  • Fixed an issue which prevented the cheek pad from adding 10% vertical recoil recovery when attached to the SLR.
  • Fixed an issue when hip-firing for an extended duration, the gun would appear to be lowered
  • Fixed an issue that caused the effect from stun grenades to appear differently depending on graphical settings

Fortnite 4.3 Update Patch Notes Detailed: Shopping Carts, Blockbuster Event Part 2 and More

The Fortnite 4.3 update patch notes are now available to read. Changes include the new Shopping Cart item, Blockbuster Event Part 2, and more. The patch is currently rolling out across all platforms, which means servers are currently down.

While you’re waiting to play again, why not give the patch notes below a read?

Fortnite 4.3 Update Patch Notes:

GENERAL

  • Turbo Build: Structures now build faster after the first building piece is placed.
    • Your first structure is built 0.15 seconds after holding the button (unchanged), any additional structures built while Turbo Building are placed after 0.05 seconds.
    • This fixes the issue that was occasionally causing a structure not to place when quickly building.
    • The reason there’s a difference in timing between the first structure placed (0.15s) and Turbo Built structures (0.05s) is to allow additional time for players to switch structure type or rotate pieces.
  • Added a toggle for ‘Edit Mode Aim Assist’ ingame options.
    • This has always been enabled for controller users.  You now have the option to enable or disable this feature.
    • Edit Mode Aim Assist attracts your aim towards the closest building square and partially confines your crosshair to the building piece your editing.

    • Camera input curves have also been slightly tuned to account for the change in diagonal aiming speeds.
  • Fixed player movement corrections upon landing from a jump after activating sprint mid-air.
  • Fixed a crash that could happen when logging out.
