In case you didn’t know, Rainbow Six Siege will be introducing loot boxes into the game with the limited-time event, Outbreak. While most might not be thrilled with this news, Ubisoft maintains that only cosmetic items will be available in these Rainbow Six Siege loot boxes, and that it will “never” affect gameplay.
Rainbow Six Siege Director Alexandre Remy has spoken out about the microtransactions, and maintains that Ubisoft isn’t being greedy at all, and compares it to a “gift shop” after a rollercoaster ride.
I feel like the loot boxes act like the gift shop after the rollercoaster. “I am feeling very empathetic towards players upset with this, but at the same time I do not feel we are cheating anyone, i don’t think we are being greedy whatsoever.
In a separate interview, Remy comments that these loot boxes won’t ever affect gameplay, and that “they’re only skins.”
For the Outbreak packs, first it is never about gameplay. I have to say: They are only skins. (It) will never have something affecting gameplay…It will change nothing to the game
While Siege has had microtransactions before, it was for cosmetics-only items that can be bought by real-world money, or in-game currency. The Outbreak event and loot box implementation will start this March 6 and will run until April 3.
Are you OK with Ubisoft’s introduction of loot boxes in Siege? Or will this be the start of something more sinister if it works? Given the game isn’t due for a sequel anytime soon, Ubisoft does need something to keep the revenue flowing in; maybe this is the perfect win-win scenario for both camps?

While Sledgehammer Games released a game patch for Call of Duty: WWII just last week — and we got a hotfix after — it seems the studio is keen on making sure the game is balanced for the new guns introduced, as a new hotfix has been rolled out yet again.
Over on Reddit, Sledgehammer announced a new COD: WWII hotfix update that just got rolled out today, and it’s mostly tweaks for Ranked Play and the new revolver, Reichsrevolver.
We pushed through a couple fixes today. We heard your feedback on the Reichsrevolver and have made an adjustment to the damage location for 2-shot kills. We’ve also pushed through some UI changes for the AAR in Ranked Play, which was showing various inconsistencies that were a source of player frustration.
Buffed Reichsrevolver 2-shot kill damage locations to be arms, chest, and above
Made UI improvements to AAR in Ranked Play (XP gains, CTF captures)
After you try out the Reichsrevolver, let us know what you think of the new buff in the comments below.
Thank you!
If that’s not your cup of tea, Sledgehammer Games has also mentioned that the Dom XL playlist (each kill counts for 100 points), and scorestreak tuning will be out sometime soon, though with no definite date.
For this week’s PSN sale, Sony is holding a PlayStation Plus Specials sale, which should just have been called a PlayStation VR special sale. The PSN weekly deals are back, and yep, it’s mostly VR-related games, though there’s some that are just for PS4.
Thanks once again to Reddit user weebae, the full list can be seen below.

New Maps:
CAPORETTO
The Austro-Hungarian forces have bombarded the Italian army with toxic gas to gain a foothold in the village along the Isonzo River. Dive behind the Castle Ruins of the old world or the craggy rocks of Blood Creek, dodging Cavalry and motorcycles alike, while keeping one hand on your trusty gasmask to fend off the barrages of the Livens Projector. Fortify Capello Grove, near the war-torn bridge, and gain access to several artillery guns to push back enemy forces.
PASSCHENDAELE
After continuous artillery shelling, all that’s left is muddy terrain, littered with debris and rubble where buildings and trees once stood. Surrounded by a blazing forest on one side and putrid gas on the other, British and German soldiers contend over fallen tree trunks and sunken tank husks in the Augustus Wood. Duck into deep trenches, cutting across the territory to find shelter in the crumbling walls of Edwards House. Storm the high ground to control Zonnebeke Church and take cover behind the stone skeleton that remains.
RIVER SOMME
British troops have dug in with a trench network that cuts through the golden wheat fields, opposing German dugouts carved into the earth just a few hundred meters away. Follow tactics of trench warfare and take possession of the Marsh Landing, prepare for the final push beyond the river. Just past the treacherous Hill 21, you’ll find only death and destruction at the site of the Sugar Mill, the latest victim to a never-ending British artillery barrage.
RAZOR’S EDGE
Top pilots take to the skies above the towering peaks of the Alps. In freezing conditions and high altitudes, flying aces attempt to outmaneuver other single-seat fighter planes as they engage in deadly dogfights. Use aerial cunning and tactics to defeat the enemy and claim your place as a knight of the sky.
LONDON CALLING
Battle among the clouds, high above the British capital. Aircraft of all types collide in this cataclysmic conflict. Using the superior speed and maneuverability of Fighter planes, tail your enemy and lay down fire to bring down attackers. Tactical bombers line high in the sky to drop overwhelming payloads on unsuspecting airships that are armed with anti-air armaments, laying waste to circling pilots in this clash between titans.
New Mode: Air Assault
A re-imagining of Air Superiority, players will engage in stunt-laden dogfights using the many aircraft available in Battlefield 1. Whether you’re spinning among your enemies in Attack biplanes, or offering support as a gunner, flying aces and novices alike can contribute to their team’s success.
As enemy crafts fall from the skies, teams will earn points. Each aircraft type varies in the awarded score, successful players will focus their attention on the big payouts. You may join a match with a Behemoth, move quickly to remove the threat and secure victory.
New Vehicles and Weapons:
Expanding the aircraft armada, we’re introducing two new bomber planes that are not only in this expansion pack but fitted into older maps as well. The British Empire is equipped with the Airco DH 10 Bomber plane, while the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Ottoman Empire have access to the new Hansa-Brandenburg G.I. bomber.
Horses are equipped with a gas mask in Battlefield 1 Apocalypse maps, protecting them from the onslaught of toxic gas attacks.
Gain access to the new guns in Battlefield 1 Apocalypse through all new weapon assignments. New Gadget:
Assault Class soldiers will now have a counterattack to airplanes with the AA Rocket Gun. Equip this in your gadget slot and launch a flak cloud to impair your flying enemies.
NEW: SERVICE ASSIGNMENTS AND SPECIALIZATIONS
Take advantage new Specializations that are immediately available in Battlefield 1 Apocalypse.
Awareness Enemies you spot remain spotted 25% longer
Useful for players that rely on spotting and serves as a counter to Quick Unspot.
Slink Reduce footstep sounds
Designed for players that wish to stay quiet whilst navigating the battlefield, with the added benefit of being more aware of their surroundings.
Privateer Swim faster with your melee weapon in-hand
Very useful in maps featuring a lot of water.
AFFLICTIONS
Whilst we’ve been attempting to make Weapon and Service Assignments more approachable for more players, skilled players might be slightly missing a steeper challenge. Afflictions are meant to fill that void; offering an added challenge that is completely voluntary but can be worn as a badge of honor (since your victims will now see your active Specializations on the Kill Card). Afflictions are available only after completing 3 Service Assignments in the first tier (Getting Started) and 5 Service Assignments in the second tier (Staying Focused). Afflictions are required to unlock some truly unique Dog Tags.
Death Toll Lose 200 points each time you die, after the revive window
Death Toll was designed for the player that’s always at the top of the leaderboard. Points aren’t deducted until you go to the deploy screen, so you can still avoid the penalty by being revived.
Peacock Once spotted, you remain spotted until death
This one is for sneaky players looking for an added challenge. Enemies need to initially spot you for the Affliction to take effect, so you can be extra careful and remain unspotted. Players that like to be in the thick of it shouldn’t notice much of a downside to this one, either.
Scavenger You can only carry one magazine per weapon
Make each shot count and keep an eye out for dropped kits. Frequently switching kits on the fly creates new challenges, forcing you to quickly adapt to an ever-changing battlefield.
Reaper Receive 1 damage per second, but performing a kill pauses the effect for 10 seconds
Since you are constantly taking damage you are always considered in combat, so you won’t be able to heal while the Affliction is active. Make sure to get a kill when health is nearby for maximum efficiency.
Paranoia You cannot remove your gas mask
The gas mask limits visibility and prevents aiming down sights, but at least you’ll be safe from any deadly gas.

Epic Games has laid out the plans it has for Fortnite Season 3’s Battle Pass earlier today, and yep, the game has a lot of juice left to be squeezed.
Not familiar with the Battle Pass? It’s Fortnite’s premium loot (read: paid) that lets members buy tiers (or earn them) to unlock more stuff. For the Fortnite Season 3 Battle Pass, players will instantly unlock a bunch of in-game rewards which include the new Mission Specialist outfit, and as you play during the season, expect tiered rewards to be doled out. The more you play, the more you unlock stuff.
According to Epic, in the Fornite Season 3 Battle Pass, there are now more 30 more tiers (100 in total), and that means, more loot! Check out the comparison chart below.

Epic states that even if the studio added more tiers, players will be able to complete the Fortnite Season 3 Battle Pass in the same amount of time as Season 2’s. Check out the rest of the stuff set to come below, along with a quick FAQ from Epic.
NEW BATTLE BUNDLE
Battle Pass + 25 Tiers (2800 V-Bucks)
Includes access to the Battle Pass and instantly unlocks your next 25 tiers, all at a 40% discount.
WEEKLY CHALLENGES
Play at your own pace!
Tier up even faster by completing the new Weekly Challenges. Each week a new set of seven challenges unlock, replacing the Season 2 Battle Pass daily challenges. Weekly Challenges stack and can be completed any time before the season ends, so if you buy a pass mid-season you’ll still have access to all of the previous Weekly Challenges. You can complete four out of the seven Weekly Challenges to unlock your rewards, so choose the challenges that best fit your style!
FAQ
If I purchase the Battle Pass Season 2 do I get the Battle Pass Season 3?
No, but you keep all of the rewards you’ve earned from the Season 2 Battle Pass!
How do I buy the Battle Pass?
Launch Fortnite
Select Battle Royale
Navigate to the Battle Pass Tab
Purchase either the Battle Pass or the Battle Bundle
What if I buy the Battle Pass late in the season?
You will receive all of the rewards up to your current level, retroactively!
I want to get everything right away. Since there are more levels in Season 3, isn’t it going to cost more to buy my way to the end?
Yes, it does. For the first 70 tiers you’ll receive 70 items, just like last season. The added 30 tiers in Season 3 offer more loot than before. We have designed the boosts and challenges so you can complete the 100 tiers of the Season 3 in the same time that it took you to complete the 70 tiers of Season 2.
In other Fortnite news, don’t forget a massive patch dropped just last week, and you can see the changes made and additions here. There’s also free skins for PS4 players, though PC players can access it via a workaround, too.
Are you still playing Daybreak Games’ H1Z1? If you are, you might have seen a massive H1Z1 player count drop since last year.
According to Steam Charts (via MMOGames), the H1Z1 player count has dropped from 150,000+ players, to just 8,000 from June 2017 this February 2018! While the game seemed poised for success in 2017 due to eSports activity, and even an hour-long special aired on US TV called H1Z1: Fight for the Crown, it failed to maintain its momentum, and was leapfrogged in terms of Twitch views by other battle royale games like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) and Epic Games’ Fortnite.
While 8,000+ players still show a very active player base, the fact that it dropped over 100,000 players in less than 12 months isn’t very good news for H1Z1. Is this the end of H1Z1? Maybe, maybe not. Don’t forget, there’s a pro league for the game announced last year, which should start in “early 2018,” which could jumpstart interest in the game once again.
If you want more comparisons between H1Z1, Fornite and PUBG, check out this netcode analysis video to see who fares the best out of the three. Also, the developers of H1Z1 thinks there won’t be PUBG without their game, and also think PUBG is a “fast-follow” opportunity.
If you’re at the very high Hunter Rank in Monster Hunter World (HR50 and above), then you’ve most likely have crafted your end-game weapon of choice, and even your end-game armor. You might be farming for the best Decorations now to complete your badass character, but believe me, you’re not done — not by a long shot.
The Monster Hunter World Augmenting system is the real end-game of World. Once you’ve unlocked Augmenting, your armor and weapons will reach new tiers, gain new abilities though it’s easier said than done.
What is Augmenting and why should I care?
Augmenting in Monster Hunter World is simple to explain: it lets you upgrade armor and weapons past their threshold. However, you can only augment weapons and armors in World once you’ve reached the said weapon or armor’s max level (by infusing it with Armor Spheres, or getting to the last step of a weapon tree).
Augmenting will make you take less damage from attacks, which in turn, make you harder to kill. For weapons, you’ll be able to unlock the in-game cap for each weapon’s attack, Affinity rating, etc.
Augmenting will let you add extra attack, Affinity, and other stuff to your weapons. Check out the abilities available to my bow via Augmenting:
With the Xeno Metora (which is a Rarity 8 weapon), you can add an attack increase ability, Affinity increase, defensive increase, slot upgrade, or health regen. Note that with weapons which are maxed out at Rarity 7, you’ll have two Augmented abilities to choose from to add to the list. If the weapon is capped at Rarity 6, then you have three Augmented upgrades to choose from.
How do I unlock Augmenting?
Unlocking the augmenting option in the Smithy is the hardest part. You will have to obtain a Warrior’s Streamstone or something similar from killing a threat level three tempered monster. We posted the full threat level list for tempered monsters, but just remember that threat level three are the Elder Dragons: Nergigante, Daora, etc.
If that wasn’t hard enough, the Hero and Warrior’s Streamstone (the better stone is the Hero one), is based on RNG. So even if you slay threat level three tempered Elder Dragons repeatedly, as long as you don’t get a Hero or Warrior’s stone, you won’t unlock the option.
Interestingly enough, for augmenting armors, part of the materials used are just Streamstones and not the Hero or Warrior’s stone (Hero and Warrior stones are used for augmenting weapons only), but you need the Hero and/or Warrior’s stone to unlock the augmenting option at the Smithy. Not sure if this was intentional in Capcom’s part, or if it’s a bug that will be patched soon.
To put things in perspective, I went from HR50 to HR60 something before I finally managed to get a Warrior’s stone to drop from killing a tempered Elder Dragon. Yep, that’s more than 10 levels of just grinding, and whatnot, with not certainty. You do get Streamstone stuff that you’ll need for augmenting though, so there’s that.
What do I need to Augment weapons and armor?
Once you unlock the augmenting option at the Smithy, you’ll need Armor Spheres — and lots of in-game cash — to bump up your preferred armors to level 11. You will see an option in the augmenting menu at the Smithy for “Upgrade Limit Removal” for armors, which will let you bump your item’s defense to max, though it’s quite costly.
For weapons, you’ll need the Warrior or Hero stones along with various hard to obtain materials to change their properties. Expect weapon materials to be needed like monster gems, Dragonbone Relics, etc. Warrior and Hero stones are also weapon-specific, so for example, I need one for the “shaft” to upgrade my bow, a “lance” one to upgrade my lance and so on.
Both weapons and armors will require Streamstones to augment, so make sure to always have some in your item box. These Streamstones can be obtained by killing tempered monsters (not necessarily threat level three).
While armors can be upgraded using the Armor Spheres from completing Research Center quests, the weapon upgrades are the hard part. Make no mistake about it, unlocking a weapon’s full potential is super worth it given you will be able to unlock the following to your weapon(s) of choice:
Attack Increase – Raises the raw damage of the weapon
Affinity Increase – Adds 10 percent Affinity to the weapon (if it’s at negative Affinity, it’ll deduct 10 percent per upgrade)
Defense Increase – Adds 10 points of defense and a chance to reduce incoming damage
Slot Upgrade – Adds an additional Decorations slot to your weapon
Health Regen – You will regenerate health when you land hits
Remember: some weapons have more than one augmentation slot, and as explained above, the lower Rarity the weapon is, the more slots it can accommodate.
Grinding Streamstones, Hero stones and the like, will be the end-game goal for now since it’ll translate to breaking through the in-game plateau. It will be a grind for sure, but one that’s worth it. Once you’ve upgraded your armor and weapon, you’ll want to do the same for your alternate builds, which means more grinding.

Yep, it seems the Grunts will be your usual cannon fodder, while the Smasher type looks like it can take a couple of rounds and keep on swinging (or biting)!
Lots of Rainbow Six Siege news dropped due to the Six Invitationals that concluded this weekend; such as the new Operators — Lion and Finka — being showcased in a new gameplay trailer. Ubisoft has also gone on record to say that there’s no sequel planned for Siege just yet, since the dev team has a 10-year plan for the game.

Following rumors of a Sea of Thieveskraken hidden within the game, beta testers searched far and wide for a glimpse of the mythical creature. Unfortunately, it appeared that the kraken was not featured in the beta build, leaving players disappointed.
A datamine of the PC beta revealed more clues of a kraken, as well as harpoons, ship customization, and more.
What are reportedly in-game screenshots of the Sea of Thieves kraken have been posted over on Resetera. These show huge tentacles rising out of the water, as well as a kraken head biting the ship.
What do you make of this beast? Will you be hunting for the Sea of Thieves kraken? Let us know in the comments.
