DayZ Xbox One Release Date Set for “Some Point This Year,” PS4 Release Launching “Eventually”

Following in the footsteps of PUBG, which has proven that the Xbox Game Preview program can be a very lucrative opportunity indeed, a new DayZ Xbox One release date window has been set.

When asked by Twitter user The CrazyScot if DayZ would ever be coming to console, the development team responded in the affirmative:

While delays are certainly possible, it’s good to see the devs give some kind of answer, rather than dodge the question entirely. It looks like the Xbox Game Preview program has created an opportunity for games which aren’t quite polished enough for a full release.

Are you excited to see DayZ come to Xbox, and eventually PS4? Let us know.

Report: CoD 2018 Is Black Ops 4, Boots on Ground and Coming to Nintendo Switch

The folks over at Treyarch Studios are busy working on the next Call of Duty game. There’s not yet been any official confirmation as to what CoD 2018 is, and we’ll likely have to wait at least a couple of months before we hear anything concrete. Until then, we look to industry insiders and leaks.

Marcus Sellars, who previously leaked information about Dark Souls and Labo coming to Nintendo Switch, is now claiming that CoD 2018 is Black Ops 4.

Sellars posted the following tweet:

If that tweet is deleted, or you have trouble loading the embed, here’s the complete text:

COD 2018 is Black Ops 4 and is coming to PS4/Xbox/PC/Switch. It is set in the modern times and is boots on the ground. The Switch version will support DLC, HD Rumble and motion controls. The Switch version is also being ported by a company which is familar with COD games.

So, not only is CoD 2018 supposedly going to be Black Ops 4, but it’s also going to be boots on ground, and available on the Nintendo Switch.

What do you make of this information? Do you want CoD 2018 to be Black Ops 4? Let us know.

Battalion 1944 Early Access Has Launched, Old School WWII Shooter Goes Live

It’s time for a new multiplayer game launch alert, with Battalion 1944 early access now available on Steam!

Battalion 1944 is designed to replicate the feel of the best FPS games from the 1990s. It’s intended to strip things back “to the competitive nature of the shooters of old.”

After a brief period of closed beta testing, the game has now launched into an “early access” state. It’s available for £11.99/€14.99/$14.99.

Here’s a look at the trailer, and a more detailed description of the game:

https://youtu.be/vKzLkuwFIXQ

Battalion recaptures the core of classic competitive shooters & refines the ‘classic’ FPS feel for the next generation. Focusing on 5v5 infantry combat, where precise flick shots with your Kar98, covering fire with your Thompson and fluid movement are key to clutching every round for your team.

KEY FEATURES:

Classic WWII FPS Roots – Skill Is King

Strike with speed, strength and precision as Battalion’s swift and smooth infantry combat paves the way for a skill ceiling competitive gamers will die for. You won’t find any airstrikes, attack dogs or overpowered god guns here. In Battalion 1944, you, your skill and your rifle reign supreme.

Wartide – Game Mode

Two teams. Two weapon armouries to be fed with the blood of your enemies. Two objectives to defend or blow to smithereens. Five players per team. Thirteen rounds to secure victory.

Wartide is created with competitive players in mind. Every weapon matters and every round counts. Loot corpses to gather weapons for your team to use in later rounds. Then, focus on the map objectives to achieve victory.

Capture the Flag, Domination, Team Deathmatch and Free For All

In addition to Wartide, Battalion 1944 allows you to wage war across Capture the Flag, Domination, Team Deathmatch and Free for All game modes.

Skill Based Matchmaking

Skill based matchmaking rates your performance level and matches you against players who’ll put your skills to the test.

War Chests

Earned by levelling up as well as from the store, these entirely cosmetic chests allow you to wear your favourite weapon colours with pride when you take to the battlefield.

Dedicated Server & LAN Support

Whether you want to host a mod, run a private competitive match or ramp the player count well above the recommended settings; Battalion 1944 allows you to host your own dedicated servers.

By the Community, For the Community

This heart-thumping multiplayer experience is being crafted by designers who have grown up playing top competitive First Person Shooters; alongside community feedback from professional FPS players and an Early Access community shaped by the same gaming experience.

Will you be giving Battalion 1944 early access a go? Let us know.

PUBG Anti-Cheat Update Goes Live on PC Next Week, Could Also Affect Normal Players

After testing a new PUBG anti-cheat system on the game’s PC test servers, developer Bluehole has now announced that PC live servers will be getting the added protection next week.

An update post on Steam has the details, which explains that the new PUBG anti-cheat will first target “unauthorized programs,” which may also include “different helper programs that alter the graphics or aid in gameplay in some way.” (Those of you using PUBG Reshade should be wary!)

The update post also notes that other programs could be blocked, even if they don’t affect gameplay. The PUBG anti-cheat will need to evolve to become smarter, it seems, and the developer has promised that it will be updated “to broaden the scope of its abilities.”

PUBG Family Sharing is also going to get the chop, with players no longer able to share the game with family and friends.

The update ends with a “thank you” from the dev team, and a look towards the future:

“We would like to sincerely thank all players who have always played fair, respected other players, and enjoyed PUBG as part of a healthy community. We will do our utmost to minimize the exposure of players who play fair to those who don’t. We ask for your understanding and active feedback so that we can create an enjoyable environment for PUBG together.

“The internally developed anti-cheat solution is planned to be upgraded steadily after the first implementation next week. As mentioned earlier, the eradication of cheat programs will not end with a few attempts and actions. In addition to the systems currently in development and already implemented, we are looking into a more effective system, and we will actively introduce any solutions that were confirmed to be reliable and accurate. We will continue taking firm measures against the developers, distributors and users of cheats. We promise you that we will do our best every day in our battle for a fair game environment.”

Are you happy with the new PUBG anti-cheat system? Let us know!

In other PUBG news, the game made over $700 million in 2017, a new simulator will help make you a sniper master, and the Xbox patch hits vehicles hard with nerfs.

EA Ranked Fifth Among USA Today’s List of Most Hated Companies

EA Worst Company 2018 Rank Is “Only” at #5!

With what happened to Star Wars Battlefront II last year, it’s almost a foregone conclusion that every gamer out there hates DICE’s parent company, Electronic Arts — or more commonly known as EA.

Well, contrary to previous years where EA won the “Worst Company in America” award, EA “only” managed to rank fifth in USA Today’s Top 20 Most Hated Companies.

Here’s the complete list:

  1. Equifax
  2. Fox Entertainment Group
  3. NFL
  4. University of Phoenix
  5. Electronic Arts
  6. Foxconn Technology Group
  7. Sprint
  8. Vice Media
  9. Spirit Airlines
  10. Cigna
  11. Wells Fargo
  12. The Trump Organization
  13. Sears Holdings
  14. Uber
  15. Comcast
  16. Monsanto
  17. CenturyLink
  18. Facebook
  19. United Airlines
  20. The Weinstein Company

It might  not have won this dubious honor, but given it’s the only video game company to make it, yeah, it’s still not a good sight to see, no? Mind, Star Wars Battlefront II still sold a lot of units, so EA might not care that much that it’s on the list again.

Do you think other video game publishers or studios deserve to be on this list? If so, who and at what rank?

Counter-Strike Co-Creator Charged for Sex Exploitation of a Child

Counter Strike Co Creator Can’t Post Bail Due to Sexual Exploitation Charge Against a Child

With sexual harassment cases from Hollywood and the sporting world now coming to light after years, and even decades, of abuse from predators, it seems the video game industry isn’t spared from the shame and controversy surrounding it as well.

A recent report has come to light that Counter-Strike co-creater Jess Cliffe has been arrested by Seattle police for sexual exploitation of a child. Cliffe, who’s an employee of Valve since 2003, was booked yesterday, and was denied bail. Important to note that the authorities have not charged Cliffe yet, so the case is still developing.

You can check the arrest record below.

Earlier today, Valve has issued a statement stating that Cliffe has been suspended pending further investigation. Here’s the statement Valve released (via Kotaku)

We are still learning details of what actually happened. Reports suggest he has been arrested for a felony offense. As such we have suspended his employment until we know more.

Counter-Strike, which was a mod to Half-Life, was created by Cliffe along with Minh Le in 1999. It’s been one of the most popular multiplayer shooters since it launched, and is still being played by millions to this day.

Once we know more details about the case, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

Rainbow Six Siege “Outbreak” Will Have Players Battling Against Aliens

Rainbow Six Siege Aliens and What? Yep, it’s really happening with “Outbreak!”

Ubisoft has announced the details of Rainbow Six Siege‘s first season of year 3, where players will battle it out against a new alien menace in a four-week co-op event, and enjoy some fresh operators.

Dubbed “Outbreak,” players are tasked with going into a quarantine zone to kill an extraterrestrial parasite that has taken over a town in New Mexico called Apex. Players have a choice of two difficulties: Normal and Pandemic. While normal sounds, well, normal, pandemic cranks the pressure up high, introducing friendly fire and increasingly difficult enemies. Outbreak will also incorporate a fortification system, similar to game’s main game modes, and players are encouraged to use it as their alien foes attempt to kill them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqhRPRVK6Ms

Ubisoft also says that Outbreak will feature three exclusive maps which are designed differently than the competitive maps by featuring a large, open style, and will even have stages of the maps open up to players as they progress through the rounds.

A roster update for operators is also incoming, with two new operators from France and Russia called Lion and Finka who are biohazard specialists. This is part of the release of Operation Chimera which will release on March 6 of this year. Ubisoft hasn’t detailed everything yet and will dive deeper into both Chimera and Outbreak during the Six Invitational Finals on February 18 and 19.
