Rocket League Cross Platform Party Support Being Worked on for 2018

Who wouldn’t want to team up — regardless of platform — when it comes to playing Rocket League, right? While that’s not available now, developer Psyonix is actively working on making that a reality.

Over on Twitter, the official Rocket League Help account mentioned this little tidbit in answering a fan’s concern.

Granted, there’s no definite date on when we’ll get it, but at least it’s being worked on, right?

If you haven’t bought the game yet, you might want to buy it on the Nintendo Switch given its portability. You can read our review of it here, where we give it an impressive 9/10, and said, “Rocket League is by far the best multiplayer game to be on the Nintendo Switch as of right now, and whether you’re a returning fan or you’re a curious outsider, and save the technical issues the port has, these are minor issues in the grand scheme of things of being able to enjoy Rocket League on the go.”

Dragon Ball FighterZ Receives a Pair of New Trailers to Celebrate Launch Week

It’s launch week for quite possibly the biggest fighting game title to be released this year, and my most anticipated game for 2018, Dragon Ball FighterZ. To celebrate this occasion, Bandai Namco has recently released a pair of new videos to keep the anticipation of the game growing until it’s release date.

You can check out both of these nearly released videos below. Among these new videos is also a better look at the final character to be revealed in the base game, Android 21:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4GbetG3iRk

Aside from a pair of new trailers to be released, the achievement/trophy list of Dragon Ball FighterZ has recently been outed. Those who are comepletionist and enjoy collecting these achievements/trophies to add to their collection should fine getting the majority of the ones in Dragon Ball FighterZ to be relatively easy.

For more Dragon Ball FighterZ news, feel free to read our coverage on how the anime fighter will tackle microtranstions.

Dragon Ball FighterZ lands January 26 for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms.

400-Player Project X Battle Royale Gameplay First Footage Debuting Next Month

Do you find Battlefield’s 32 on 32 matches a bit too tame for your liking. What about PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fornite? Too small still? Then this might be the game for you.

Called “Project X,” and is being made by developer Autmaton, Project X aims to support 1,000 online players, and a whopping 400-player battle royale mode. Ambitious? Yes, but it seems this thing is actually happening as we’ll see our first Project X battle royale gameplay footage on February 17 at the PC Gamer Weekender event. On top of that, the developers will also talk about how they’re developing the game and more.

The PC Gamer Weekender will be held at London Olympia, February 17-18, and will have developer presentations, hardware workshops and more.

PUBG Movie Isn’t Happening Right Now, but Amsterdam Office Expansion Is

With Bluehole describing PUBG as a “universal media franchise,” fans began to speculate about an upcoming PUBG movie. Unfortunately, a PUBG movie does not seem to be in the works… At least, not yet!

Speaking with GamesIndustry, PUBG CEO Chang Han Kim clarified on what he meant by “universal media franchise,” and explained that, if a PUBG movie did happen, it would be “another form of entertainment for [PUBG] fans,” and not just a “tool to make more profit.”

“So the phrase ‘media franchise’ isn’t something I used myself. It was the [journalist], but I didn’t think it was completely wrong so I didn’t correct him. I was speaking about the long-term vision I had.”

“We don’t have any specific plans, but we’re thinking a lot about what that could look like … What we want to do is look at how this can be another form of entertainment for our fans; not as a tool to make more profit, but as something we can enjoy with our players and how we can do that through new media.”

Chang Han Kim also spoke about the team’s expansion into Amsterdam, while also hinting at other future expansions.

“Unexpectedly, we have seen global success and feel we have the responsibility to improve the game and sustain this at a global scale, so we are looking to expand our offices and we hope to do that in a few areas this year.”

“Amsterdam is geographically advantageous, and that’s why we wanted to set up and office there first.”

So no PUBG movie, but big expansions into other countries. Sounds like a solid plan, for now!

Would you watch a PUBG movie? And how big do you think the PUBG team will grow to become? Let us know.

In other PUBG news, Xbox has said that sales for the console version are “very big,” netcode analysis shows that the game has a big problem, and the Battle Royale Trainer is here to help players improve.

Original Story:

Clocking in at on 2.74GB the PlayStation 4, this latest game update seems to be the biggest one released for COD: WWII so far.

Just reviewed the patch notes with our social media specialist. In addition to all of the event content, there are lots of good fixes included. The update will start rolling out on PS4 at 9am PST, barring anything unforeseen. Be sure to follow the SHG channels for full details.

Here are a couple notable ones that may bring a few smiles: * Fixed issue where volume of some announcer VO lines in War Mode were louder than intended * Turned down foley footstep volume, as well as other players’ footstep volume. (I hope we didn’t nerf them too much, tbh)

Also, if you have any doubt that the MP team is listening, I’m proud to share the system designers jammed hard to get this change implemented and tested for today’s update, ahead of my expectation to be honest: * Friendly shellshock no longer impacts player movement. VFX and screen shake still present, but player movement and look speed reductions have been eliminated.

We’ve been working on this update since December. Hundreds of developers working for weeks to add, improve, refine, and fix. We hope it goes flawlessly. I suspect you’ll help us identify new things to address. Please keep the feedback coming, please keep the feedback constructive.

Ok, I’m off to take down Anthropoid. See you online soon!

Demolition: Continuing with the Resistance theme, Demolition is a spin on Search & Destroy with respawns available. Faster-paced and more accessible, this classic favorite will return for two weeks during The Resistance.

Prop Hunt: This new fan-favorite game mode also makes its debut in Call of Duty: WWII, as players will have the opportunity to hide in plain site as objects, while the enemy team hunts them down.

Of course, there’s going to be various gameplay tuning, balancing and more as well, which we’ll know about once the exact patch notes drop.

PUBG Cheaters Are Getting Even Sneakier, Killcam Catches Them Red-Handed

PUBG cheaters are still trying to get away with exploiting the game. The latest cheat is a little sneakier than the auto-aiming, and infinite health-giving hacks of the past. Captured by Reddit user MagicIsBull, this new cheat allows players to instantly heal themselves, in addition to being able to instantly revive friendly players.

Take a look at the cheat below:

This exploit is harder for enemy players to detect, as a fast revive or heal would largely go unnoticed. Luckily, MagicIsBull was on the ball with this one.

Here’s hoping the developers are quick to enforce a fix, and punish players ruining the game for others.

Creative director Brendan Greene recently tweeted about how his team is working to clamp down on cheaters:

In other PUBG news, Xbox has said that sales for the console version are “very big,” netcode analysis shows that the game has a big problem, and the Battle Royale Trainer is here to help players improve.

Nvidia ShadowPlay Fix Helps Prevent FPS Drops & Corrupted Recordings

If you’re a PC gamer with an Nvidia GTX graphics card, then you’ll likely use ShadowPlay to easily capture gameplay highlights and screenshots. ShadowPlay has very little effect on performance, and so is a no-brainer for video creators, or for those who just fancy making some occasional GIFs.

Unfortunately, some users have found ShadowPlay to be inconsistent, regularly exporting gameplay that is choppy, sometimes with artifacts, or a lower-than-normal frame-rate.

I have run into these problems myself, and they actually caused me to switch over to OBS. I couldn’t find an easy solution, and couldn’t dedicate the time to extensive troubleshooting.

Thankfully, YouTuber creator Battle(Non)Sense has done the legwork for us. After suffering with ShadowPlay problems for months, he dedicated part of his weekend to finally solving the issue.

After a lot of cable switching, Battle(Non)Sense concluded that having the primary monitor (on which you game and record) plugged into the port closest to the motherboard, causes corruptions. Plugging your primary monitor into any of the other ports allows ShadowPlay to work without issue.

For a full rundown on all of this, check out Battle(Non)Sense’s video below:

For months I’ve been plagued by corrupted Nvidia ShadowPlay recordings and last weekend I found out why. The reason behind this is just bonkers and it might affect you too!

Have you been plagued by ShadowPlay issues? Will you be trying this fix? Let us know.

In other Nvidia news, the company is helping produce Big Format Gaming Displays which look incredible, the GTX 1060 has become the most popular GPU on Steam, and the Nvidia Titan V was announced.

Rainbow Six Siege Down As Update 4.2 Rolls Out to Live PC Servers, Patch Notes Available Here

Ubisoft has begin rolling out a new Rainbow Six Siege update. Unfortunately, this requires some scheduled downtime, with PC players suffering today, and console players being taken offline tomorrow.

Here’s the schedule for the maintenance taking place on PC, PS4, and Xbox One:

As for what Update 4.2 brings to the game, check out the patch note highlights below:

BALANCE CHANGES

Ela’s SMG will have a reduced magazine size

We have decided to lower the magazine size of her SMG from 50 to 40 bullets.

Game Designer notes: Ela overpowers her competition. Players select her almost every round, and for a good reason. All of the data we have on her (such as win ratio, K/D ratio, and Kills per round) shows that she needs to be nerfed. We have found this to be primarily because of her SMG and to a lesser extent her concussion mines.

The recoil of her SMG was already nerfed slightly with Y2S3.2, but this did not have the impact that we hoped.

For now, we’re trying to balance her while keeping her SMG’s uniqueness, which lets her fight several opponents at a time better than other defenders. We will consider other ways of nerfing this weapon if this is not enough.

In addition to the reduced magazine size, we will be reducing the overall strength of concussion effects across the board.

Reduction in Concussion effects

With Y2S4.2 patch, concussion effects will no longer disable sprinting. It will still reduce movement speed and camera rotation speed, but affected targets will recuperate much faster (4 sec, instead of 7 sec). The effect on sight and hearing will still last a total of 7 sec.

Game Designer notes: This change will affect both Ela and Zofia. We believe this will most heavily impact Ela, as Zofia also has impact grenades to rely on for increased effectiveness.

Compared to other gadgets of this nature, the concussion effect is superior in almost every way: it greatly affects movement speed, massively slows down rotation speed, and also reduces a player’s ability to hear and see.

Ash’s R4-C nerf

We reduced the damage of the R4-C to 39 (from 41).

Game Designer notes: Ash is still a pick that is too attractive when compared to other attackers. We’ve compared her most popular weapon (R4-C) to other assault rifles stats and given the R4-C’s very high rate of fire (860), its damage is a bit too high.

*We are aware of a visual issue with Suppressed damage not displaying properly in the Menu. The values in-game are true to the table above.

Capitao’s Para-308 buff

We increased the Para-308’s raw damage is to 48 (from 43). We also slightly reduced the intensity of the random components of its recoil.

Game Designer notes: Capitao right now is not attractive enough. His gadget suffers from a few issues that will need long-term solutions, but in the meantime, it’s clear that his main assault rifle is too weak.

*We are aware of a visual issue with Suppressed damage not displaying properly in the Menu. The values in-game are true to the table above.

Twitch’s Shock Drone Ammo

We reduced the max ammo for each Shock Drone to 5 (from 15).

Game Designer notes: Twitch right now is too strong. There are several possible reasons, one of them being that her drones have the potential to deny an unreasonable amount of electronics from defenders. We feel that this change will force players to start making choices about when to shoot or to save their ammo, and which Defender gadgets to destroy.

Bandit’s barbed wire

Bandit will now have two barbed wire (down from 3).

Game Designer notes: Even if Ela has eclipsed Bandit’s pick rate, players still pick him too often. Reducing the number of barbed wires he has should bring him more in line with other Defenders.

Lesion’s Gu Mine refill timer

We lowered Lesion’s Gu Mine refill timer to 30 sec (from 35).

Game Designer notes: Lesion is in an OK place right now, but could use a slight buff. By reducing the refill timer, it will encourage his specific playstyle of staying alive as long as possible to increase the strength of his defensive gadget.

Head here for the other improvements and bug fixes.

Are you looking forward to trying out the new Rainbow Six Siege changes and improvements? Let us know.

Next Call of Duty: WWII Update Coming Tomorrow, Will Bring New Content, and Changes

Remember when we said that a ton of new free content is making its way to Call of Duty: WWII? Well, that’s happening tomorrow, and it’s set to bring a lot of new changes as well.

First off, prepare for the new Resistance Division, as well as a host of new weapons and equipment to obtain. Customization is also getting some much-needed love as the emblem gallery and paint jobs are set to make their way too!

Here’s what Sledgehammer Games boss Michael Condrey had to say about it the event tomorrow.

Vive la résistance!
byu/Mcondrey inWWII

The Resistance event begins tomorrow! There’s a lot coming to WWII over the next 5 weeks and Tuesday morning’s update will have a bunch of great new content and ways to play. We’re looking forward to playing with you, and seeing your reaction in game.

The Sledgehammer Games channels will have the full details tomorrow once the update has gone live. A few notable items include a console fix to the spectator bug, the addition of the emblem gallery feature, a tuning change to increase the speed of health regen, and of course, the new Resistance Division and new Resistance themed weapons, including the special weapon orders for directly earning them through match play (fwiw, the Volkssturmgewehr is one of my favorite ARs right now.) Prop Hunt, Demolition, Domination XL, HQ updates, and a host of other surprises are just around the corner.

Also, we have heard your feedback on friendly shell-shock. Creatively, it makes sense that danger close concussions wouldn’t distinguish friend from foe in an explosion, and that led to a visceral WWII feel at launch. That said, we are exploring options to reduce or eliminate the impact during matches. We’ll update more on this as we get a better compass heading on the solution, but know that we are looking into ways to address this community feedback.

Have a great Monday. I’m off to take down the Wolf’s Lair!

  • Condrey

Aside from the new content, expect the Domination XL playlist to make its way out, a health regen speed buff, and lots more!

This is possibly the biggest game update to date that Sledgehammer Games will be rolling out, and I can’t wait to try out the new tweaks and fixes.

Once the patch is rolled out, we’ll make sure to let our readers know.

Minecraft Sales Surpass 144 Million Copies Sold, Has 74 Million Regular Players

In case you’d forgotten just how insanely successful the game has become, the new head of Minecraft, Helen Chiang, is here to remind you of its video game world domination.

Speaking with Pop Sugar, Chiang confirmed that over 144 million copies of Minecraft have been sold, across more than a dozen different platforms. The game still remains incredibly popular, with 74 million players coming back to the play the game each month.

“We just recently set a new record in December for monthly active users, so now we’re at 74 million monthly active users — and that’s really a testament to people coming back to the game, whether it’s through the game updates or bringing in new players from across the world … That’s really our goal, to keep building the community that we have.”

As for what’s planned for the game’s future, Chiang laid it out clearly:

“The first [goal] is bringing over more people to Bedrock through Nintendo, and that’s coming out pretty soon. The second is expanding the features in the game that the players love, so we have the update Aquatic coming out pretty soon. The third one is the new graphics engine that we talked about both at MINECON and E3, the superduper graphics pack. They’re all areas that I’m really excited about and that the team is working very hard on.”

So Minecraft is still a gaming monolith, and support continues!

Are you still playing Minecraft? Let us know.

Destiny 2 Development Transparency Continues, Bungie to Post Article on the “Technical Challenges”

Bungie continues to be incredibly transparent when it comes to what’s planned for Destiny 2 future updates. What was once a long silence coming from the developer, has turned into a vast amount of responses to player questions, and more in-depth discussions on game design.

Of course, communication is just the first step towards improving the Destiny 2, but it’s definitely a good start.

Bungie game director Christopher Barrett has been especially communicative, particular on Twitter.

In response to a player asking about the ability to bulk dismantle all shaders, Barrett said that Bungie will be “posting an article explaining the technical challenge and why [they] haven’t ‘fixed it,’ along with when [players] can expect a solution.”

Barrett has also confirmed that “hidden quests” will be coming to Destiny 2, as well as the fact that “all of the features outlined in the development update will be free to all players.”

A lot of communication from Bungie here. I’m looking forward to hearing about the next batch of content, which I’m hoping comes sooner rather than later!

In other Destiny 2 news, several top Destiny YouTubers have lessened their support of the game, Bungie is hiring a new community manager, and the developer explains the faction rewards throttle and incoming adjustments.

Call of Duty 2018 Developer Hiring “Cinematics Specialist,” Treyarch Prioritizing Storytelling

Call of Duty 2018 developer Treyarch Studios is looking to take on a “world-class, industry leading senior cinematics animator.” This individual will “help inspire the team by creating the highest quality cinematic animation while pushing the boundaries of game play, storytelling, and technology.”

With Treyarch (presumably and hopefully) already well into the development of Call of Duty 2018, it’s unclear if the new cinematics animator will be working on the new CoD. Then again, I’m no expert, and perhaps the cinematics animator is needed to tidy thing up and add some polish during the final year.

Here’s what the role involves, and the skills and experience needed:

What you’ll be doing:

  • With storytelling as the highest priority, produce high quality cinematic animation using the tools at your disposal.
  • Responsible for major story arcs from inception to completion.
  • Collaborate with animators, designers, artists and software engineers to identify and address areas of need or concern.
  • Contribute to the development of new techniques and processes involved in the creation and implementation of animation.
  • Participate in the planning and directing process of motion capture shoots.
  • Identify potential areas of risk, create/execute mitigation plans before issues happen, and keep yourself operating at a high level of productivity.

The skills/experience you’ll need:

  • 5+ years of experience in game industry
  • 3 – 5 titles shipped as a Senior AI Animator
  • Great understanding of realistic body mechanics as well as animation principles
  • Mentorship skills
  • Able to choose cameras and shots to create a specific mood in a scene
  • Being aware of and able to contribute to the visual style of the product, including shot choices, pacing, emotion, visual metaphors and visual language
  • Understand the visual effect that different lenses will have on a shot
  • Understand composition, and be able to work with the Art Department to solve complex visual challenges
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Expert knowledge of Motion Builder 2012+
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Expert knowledge of animation implementation and debugging techniques
  • Self-starter and problem solver
  • [Previous] animation experience is a plus

We haven’t heard much about Call of Duty 2018. Here’s hoping that changes soon!

In other Call of Duty news, the WWII emblem gallery and paint jobs are set to roll out with the Resistance event, Activision is apparently sending out free WWII codes via email, and a new Division and weapons are coming to WWII

343 Industries Responds to Halo 6 Microtransactions and Loot Box Rumors

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_RNeKwhxzE

Following rumors about a so-called “re-evaluation” of Halomicrotransactions and loot boxes, 343 Industries franchise director Frank O’Connor commented on Resetera, eager to debunk the chatter.

Here’s what he said:

This is bunk. We’re not reevaluating anything (significant) and “Microsoft” isn’t designing anything for the next game – 343 is. We watched the EA battlefront thing with the curiosity you’d expect – but our current req system is player focused and well liked and unintrusive as far as these things go.

We have made zero announcements about our next projects and continue to work on our next game and technology with player’s needs and interests in mind.

However the story as loosely presented as it is – has no bearing on or relation to any current efforts.

I suppose you could say “company x is evaluating feature you” and always have some grain of truth, but we are neither aping nor adapting an unrelated system from another game.

This follows an equally vague rumor about an issue with our engine, which in fact is counter to significant ongoing improvements and evolution of our tech.

If there were some nugget of truth to both, I’d just ignore it. Development is rife with normal examples of both of these “stories” but in this case there aren’t even notable small examples that this could have been based on.

Certainly in the future we’ll be evolving our systems and tech and maybe these general and vague statements will have brief applicability. But right now? Nah.

The rumors were started by Brad Sams, who had previously provided accurate leaks of Xbox One X and the original Xbox Elite controller.

With how volatile the gaming community has become when it comes to loot boxes, it’s understandable why developers would reach out and try to nip these rumors in the bud. Of course, we won’t know the whole truth until 343’s next game is out in the wild!
