Terminal In Modern Warfare 3, How Footage Was Leaked and All The Latest Info

Following up from our previous articles regarding the leaked gameplay footage and basic information of one of MW2’s most popular maps, Terminal, we here at MP1st would like to pull all known info together into one article so you don’t have to search about and look at an abundance of tweets or forum posts!

The following details we have regarding the old MW2 map making an appearance on its successor – of which have been gathered up by reading tweets of Infinity Ward’s Executive Producer, Mark Rubin, as well as his big push to respond to questions from the community – are as follows:

Note that Infinity Ward and Activision have not publicly/officially announced Terminal as DLC content so far.

Terminal

  • Free for all users, both non-ELITE and ELITE premium subscribers will get it

When asked whether or not Terminal would follow the same Premium DLC or be released as a Free map, Mark Rubin responded by saying the map will definitely be “free” and will not follow the same ELITE-style content calendar; citing that Terminal will be a “stand alone Map” and be released for “everyone”.

  • Xbox 360 will “most likely” get Terminal before other platforms; still to be fully confirmed

Mark Rubin is uncertain that Terminal will be released on all platforms at the same time. He reaffirms that he is “not 100% sure yet” if Terminal comes out on Microsoft’s console first, but goes on to say that he “believe[s] PS3 has to get Terminal 30 days after Xbox”. He has reached out to ‘Legal’ (the department body that governs contracts so they are not broken and other legal rights have not been breached) to clarify but has not received any news yet.  He “hopes” to get more information by the end of the week.

  • Terminal may “not necessarily” be released on a Tuesday; map itself could potentially be a Title Update (“Patch”) but most likely a DLC drop

As Tuesday is Microsoft’s patch day and also the standard day for when their Marketplace is updated, people would be safe to assume that the map would be released then. However, that may not be the case. Mark exclaims that they can release it for when it is ready. The map could arrive as part of a Title Update but he goes onto detail that ‘patches’ have size limits of which may require the map to be downloaded manually off the XBOX Marketplace and Playstation Store, while a Title Update activates it to be able to be played in multiplayer. While this information conflicts with the fact that that “everyone will get it”, further details remain vague and scarce.

  • Terminal releases “very soon”; supposed release date  within the “next few weeks”

The Exec Producer has been extremely optimistic in the sense that the map will hit gamers within the next few weeks.  He has been vocal to say that the map is ready to deploy but wants “everything to be ready” as there is still “lots to coord[inate]”.  He confirms that the map will be out “as soon as [he] has a firm launch date” and “didn’t want to give people a [release] date and then change it on them”.  Once they get “deployment issues” out the way, they will be able to confirm a definite release date.

  • Terminal does not require any major “gameplay changes”; had a quick “art” and “playthrough” pass to test.

As the Modern Warfare 3 engine is an upgraded MW2 engine, Terminal requires little gameplay changes other than checking to see if everything from MW3 works on the older-styled map – examples include the Assault Drone and if it could surpass the inflatable tube/stairs and to see if Strike Package rewards would work correctly. The art pass was to upgrade the map to look like a MW3 map – Mark Rubin answered a question about the changes, and mentioned that the tilting for ‘Burger Town’ has been changed from English to Russian characters to keep consistency and suit the environment.

  • Leaked images and footage clarification, which has now been removed through a copyright claim by Activision; how people managed to access the map despite not being made available.

When asked how people managed to attain the map, Mark Rubin explains that the map is “not on the disk” and that modders managed to hack into their “Development environment” and “downloaded it” from there, as reported by moriarty1975 on our forums.

  • Mark Rubin “hopeful” about more MW2 maps; Terminal remains as the only returning old map for now.

When asked about the possibility of other fan favourites from COD4/MW2 returning, he answered vaguely. While not confirming any further old maps to make reappearances (like Favela, Highrise, Crash and others) he did not explicitly rule it out. Terminal will be the only map “for now”.

Update: Modern Warfare 3′s “Terminal Coming Soon,” Releases on Xbox 360 First

With that vast amount of information crunched down into an easy-to-refer-to paragraphs, we hope you are more adequately informed! If you have any more further questions regarding Terminal, then please comment below!

How to Balance Black Ops II’s Perk System, Solutions for Ghost

The Call of Duty community is so large that there will never be a solution that will please everyone when it comes to perk balancing. It’s likely that even those of you reading this piece will disagree with me on some of these ideas. That’s okay. That’s what makes this community great. We all have ideas on how to make the game perfect for us. Fortunately for us, we don’t have millions upon millions of players holding us accountable when we throw out our thoughts and ideas, so we can express our opinion more freely and without much criticism compared to what the studios behind Call of Duty endure.

With Black Ops II set to release on 11/13/12, it is my best guess that the multiplayer stages of the game are still in Alpha, meaning if any tweaks were to be made, it would have to be done relatively soon. I meant to suggest these ideas sooner but felt that my first article here on MP1st would be best served covering the idea of the perk system in Black Ops II and my ideas on how to keep it balanced. None of these suggestions are an over the top remodel of the system, but just taking a simplistic approach from what has been done right in the past.

Below are my ideas for a good perk setup for Black Ops II. Please read through the explanation before you scream out blasphemy!

Perk 1
Ghost: Invisible to UAV | Pro: Air support does not see you
Lightweight: Run faster | Pro: Mantle objects quicker
Scavenger: Pick up ammo packs | Pro: Replenish grenades
Hardline: Pointstreaks take 1 less | Pro: 2 assists equal 1 kill for streak
Stopping Power: Increased bullet damage | Pro: Increased grenade damage

Perk 2
Sleight of Hand: Reload Faster | Pro: ADS faster
Steady Aim: Better accuracy from hip | Pro: Less recoil
Warlord: 2 Attachments | Pro: Extra grenade and stun
Hardened: No flinch when hit | Pro: Increases your weapons bullet penetration
Scout: Less sway on scoped guns | Pro: Hold breath longer

Perk 3
Ninja: Decreased volume on foot steps | Pro: No noise on reload
Tactical Mask: Decreased damage from stuns & flashes | Pro: Immune to stuns & flashes
Flack Jacket: Decreased damage from grenades | Pro: No fall damage, immune to fire
Marathon: Longer sprint time | Pro: Unlimited sprint
Sit Rep: Can see equipment through walls | Pro: Can turn enemy equipment to theirs.

The first thing many of you may notice is the fact that I have Ghost and the ability to be invisible to UAV listed… “why would you do that, you n00b!?!” is what some of you are saying to yourself. As long as there is a killstreak like a SR-71 that counteracts Ghost, I’m ok with it. If your read down a few perks, you’ll see Stopping Power listed. I know David Vonderhaar has said Stopping Power is not a viable solution to balance the perks, but I just don’t see anything else taking away from Ghost in the Perk 1 slot.

The other solution, to me, if Stopping Power is a definite no go, would be to move something like Slight of Hand or Ninja to the same tier as Ghost and force people to give up another popular perk in order to use Ghost.

I do feel a lot of the discussion about perk balance is greatly weighted on what to do with Ghost. If you find a way to counter Ghost with an effective perk such as Stopping Power or another fan favorite, you limit the amount of people running around with it. I do like the idea of putting Ghost and Ninja in the same slot to prevent players from loading up on stealth perks.

Let me know your thoughts regarding perk balance. Is the return of Stopping Power in Black Ops II the way to balance the perks or do you have a better idea? Put your detailed perk setup in the comments.

[Updated] Team Fortress 2 Pyromania Update Released

Valve has released their latest update for Team Fortress 2 today. The biggest addition is the all new “Doomsday” gamemode. In this mode one team tries to launch a rocket into space while the other team tries to stop them. Along with this gamemode, 11 new achievements have been revealed.

At least 10 new community weapons have also been revealed. They will be added to the Mann Co. store soon and as always, the creator of the weapon gets a share of the revenue made. Of course, all these weapons will also drop randomly and many will probably become available through crafting.

update: If you play the game before July 5th you’ll receive vintage edition “Pyrovision Goggles“. They can also be obtained by dominating a player who’s wearing them, but your goggles won’t be vintage if you get them that way. For those who took part in the ARG: You can combine the burned remains and ash piles in your inventory into crates. If you’re lucky you’ll get some of the new weapons!

Last but not least, Meet the Pyro video has been released, which you can check out below.

Report – Black Ops II Getting Pre-Order Bonus ‘Nuketown 2025’ Multiplayer Map

Final Update: It’s official now, here’s the first details.

Throughout the last few days, we’ve seen a number of forum users reporting that Black Ops II pre-order bonus posters for “Nuketown 2025”  multiplayer map have been showing up at their local retailers. It seems that the popular map from the original Black Ops, Nuketown, will get a “2025” re-imagining.

One Se7ensins user saw the posters at Ireland’s Xtravision. Also, a GameFAQs member reported on Nuketown 2025 posters at US based GameStop. However, Steven Douglass via XGZ managed to snap a few pictures of the posters at his local “GAME” store in the UK.

The promotion on the second image reads, “Pre-Order Call of Duty: Black Ops II now and receive the Nuketown 2025 bonus map for free. Relive the close quarters chaos of this classic fan-favorite map re-imagined in a visionary depiction of the “model home of the future.”

MP1st writer Gav contacted GAME for a comment on the topic via Twitter, the retailer had this to say, “I’m afraid we don’t know anything about it – we do have the Prestige Token pre-order bonus however which you can use in MW3!”

Update 2: One more image has made its way on to the internet from IGN.

Update 3: As the image above suggests, Black Ops II will have a Limited Edition Pack, perhaps similar to how the first print of Battlefield 3 is considered “limited” and packs in expansion pack Back to Karkand, however in this case Nuketown 2025. Also, another interesting topic of discussion is whether Xbox 360 owners will have access to Treyarch’s “most popular map” Nuketown first, as Microsoft has recently renewed the one month exclusivity deal for Black Ops II. This leads us to the question, will Nuketwon 2025 be included on disc or online to download? If it’s offered through DLC, then would the aforementioned exclusivity deal factor in?

Update 1: GameStop’s reveal for the second pre-order bonus wave will take place on July 1st, we expect Nuketown 2025 to be revealed then and added to the title’s pre-order bonuses. Of course, those who have already pre-ordered the game from GameStop will be entitled to the next three waves as well, which should include Nuketown 2025. See the flyer below for more details.

Infinity Ward Asks You To Vote For New MW3 Face Off Game Modes

Infinity Ward’s Community Coordinator, Candice Capen, has announced that Face Off will be receiving some attention in the terms of new games modes featured alongside the standard Team Deathmatch and Kill Confirmed set-up on the 2v2 and 3v3 playlists.

A few days ago, base playlists were also put to a poll which currently has ‘Snipers only/No Snipers’ and ‘MLG Rules/Competitive mode’ leading the pack.

Capen recently fielded out a poll on the Community section of the MW3 official website, asking for the general public to vote for a game mode they would like to see in the Face Off playlists. She comments that they’re “looking to change which game mode we have included for 2 v 2 & 3 v 3 every week or so” in order to vary the gameplay experience, and wants the community to “play the different modes on your favorite Face Off maps”.

Capture the Flag featured in the playlists at the weekend and was removed Monday morning to make way for different game modes which will appear every weekend. IW Executive Producer, Mark Rubin, was responding to tweets at the end of last week and the weekend describing the possibility of different game modes, and mentioned that “Faceoff has been a huge hit [in terms of numbers playing at one time]” while acknowledging that Face Off and Capture the Flag isn’t quite as well received as Infinity Ward make it out. “Not everyone is going to like the same thing,” he mentions, but goes on to to add that they are “rotating out modes” for future dates.

The game modes in the poll vary from Core Domination and Search & Destroy, to Hardcore Free For All and Capture the Flag – with Domination and Search & Destroy leading.  The most popular game mode will make its introduction first, while runner-up game modes will be available a few weeks down the line – whether or not certain game modes will be made permanent is uncertain at this time.  Check out the full list below, and remember to vote for your favourite game mode – and tell us in the comments section which one you voted for (vote here)!

  • Team Defender
  • Domination
  • Search & Destroy
  • All or Nothing
  • Hardcore Domination
  • Hardcore Search & Destroy
  • Hardcore Capture the Flag

Black Ops II – Treyarch Keeping Familiar CoD Multiplayer Experience Intact, MP Reveal This August

While Treyarch plans to “challenge assumptions” when it comes to Black Ops II’s multiplayer, developers assure hardcore fans that the familiar gameplay which they’ve all come to love will remain intact.

Already, rumors of a completely revamped create-a-class system have begun to surface which indicate that Black Ops II could use a point allocation system so that players can completely customize their loadouts.

Recently, X360A asked Treyarch’s John Rafacz if he thought experimenting or playing with the Call of Duty multiplayer experience could pose as a risk given how well established it already is.

Rafacz made it clear, “well, let’s be careful how we use the phrase ‘playing’ with it. When we talk about challenging assumptions [of multiplayer] at no point has anyone ever expressed any interest in throwing the baby out with the bathwater. But at the same time, as we listen to the community and make our level best effort to speak to the variety of expectations that 30-40 million fans have, we’ve evolved a few things and added our own spin on certain aspects. But to those that hold multiplayer sacred: we’re not ‘playing’ with it.”

Rafacz was also asked if developers felt restricted thanks to expectations and preconceived notions of what Call of Duty multiplayer should be. He explained, “I’m not even sure it has as much to do with multiplayer as much as it does with listening to what people are really asking for. Whether it’s from a random tweet or a forum thread comment, there’s hopefully the thing that someone loves, but if it’s something that someone hates and they’re complaining about, what is it that they’re really going after? It’s the art of being able to scoop those comments up, listen to them and really dissect the true intention of what the community is asking for. It’s really more about getting that right and then everything else follows.”

Still, very little is known about Black Ops II’s multiplayer. However, that should change by early August, according to gameplay designer David Vonderhaar. A few days ago, he tweeted that we should be learning more about the multiplayer in “7-8 weeks,” or “a long time from now, but far earlier than usual.” Perhaps during this year’s Gamescon, Germanym a gaming trade fair, this August 15-19? The original Back Ops as well as Modern Warfare 3 got their multiplayer reveals in September.

Would you rather that Treyarch takes more risks with Black Ops II’s multiplayer this time around, or that they keep it as familiar as possible? Let’s hear your thoughts in the comments below.

It’s Unclear If Far Cry 3’s Delay Will Affect Beta Plans For This Summer

On the heels of Far Cry 3’s delay announcement, Ubisoft is not sure if the beta, which should take place this Summer and last for two weeks, will be affected.

“We are still doing our best to make that determination, but nothing is confirmed yet,” a Ubisoft representative told GameSpot. However, on the game’s official twitter feed, the developers responded to some worried fans stating, “the beta timing has not changed! More details coming soon. Stay tuned!” They also added, “the beta is still planned for the summer. No official dates have been announced yet.”

Far Cry 3 is slated to release on November  29th in EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) and December 4th in North America. Keep in mind, “a rushed game forever bad. We’re taking a little more time to create the best possible gameplay experience,” as the developers put it best.

Modern Warfare 3 Hot Fixes Tonight, Details on Upcoming Patches

Update: The official MW3 website has released notes for the latest hotfix:

Player Stats:

  • Fix for both team’s receiving losses at the end of a round based gametype (Demolition, CTF, Search & Destroy)

Map: Lookout

  • Fix for players being able to hide behind tarp
  • Fix for stealth bomber not damaging players

Original Story: Tonight, Modern Warfare 3 players can look forward to number of hot fixes that are set to resolve some current issues. We also have new details regarding upcoming MW3 patches.

“Hot fixes going out late tonight for MW3: Lookout bug fixes, player accuracy fix, false losses no longer received in round based game types,” stated Infinity Ward’s official Twitter account. Executive Producer Mark Rubin added, “It should be live around 2am PST for everyone.”

The upcoming patches (not releasing tonight, but later) should be taking a look at a number of broader and more important issues with their priority being lag compensation and matchmaking fixes.

Lag compensation seems to be a troublesome issue for the team behind MW3. Ruben explains in a lengthy set of tweets:

A big part of it was narrowing down on the issue. We thought at first that it was a matchmaking issue. Which now that we have found an issue in the Hilbert curves that determine regional distance we realize it is part of the problem. Also the player visualization interpolation is not some single line of code somewhere with an on/off switch. It changed slowly over the two years it took to make MW3 and so unraveling that has been difficult. Our first attempts at fixing the issue did fix it, but only for some regions. It’s something that we’ve been looking at for the entire amount of time the game has been out. I have no idea why you got banned from the forums. I wasn’t involved with them at the time. but I have been completely dedicated to MW3 for the last month or so and am pushing very hard to make some changes.

Users experiencing problems with clan emblems can also look forward to a fix soon. According to Beachhead Studio, “you will get all the emblems your Clan Level is eligible for when we release our next update that’s tracking for this week.”

As for Xbox 360 users who’ve been experiencing issues with the latest Spec Ops mission, Arctic Recon, “for that bug the fix is done just in Test/Cert. MS is going to rush the patch for us so hoping by the end of the week,” explained Rubin.

Stay tuned to MP1st for more on MW3 updates!

Danger Close Exec. Producer Explains the Difference Between Battlefield 3 and Medal of Honor: Warfighter

At first glance, Danger Close’s Medal of Honor: Warfighter and DICE’s Battlefield 3 seem rather similar. After all, they are both military first-person shooters, they are both set in a modern era and they both run on the Frostbite 2 engine. So, what exactly is the difference between the two?

Speaking to VG247, Danger Close executive producer Greg Goodrich explains just that.

“So, the difference between Battlefield 3 and Medal of Honor – the two franchises – are essentially the size, scale and the scope for the military units that we’re talking about – not the game itself, but the military units,” explains Goodrich. In fact, size and scale are two factors we used to describe Battlefield 3 in our multiplayer review.

He continues, “so, Battlefield is all about the ‘big war’, the ‘sledgehammer’, the ‘what comes with the sledgehammer of overwhelming forces of tanks and jets and all the military industrial machines that come along with large forces’,” features we can look forward to even further in the upcoming Battlefield 3 DLC, Armored Kill.

“Medal of Honor tells a story that focuses on the footsoldier, the scalpel, the precision instrument of warfare – the Tier 1 Operators,” counters Goodrich. “So, that’s sort of the the place where we fit into in the difference between the two shooters.”

From what we’ve learned so far of Medal of Honor: Warfighter’s multiplayer, we can definitely spot at least a few differences from Battlefield 3’s based on the inclusion of Support Actions or Score Chain Rewards alone. However, Warfighter will see the inclusion of Fireteams, similar to Battlefield 3’s squads, though they will only be limited to two players. Additionally, Warfighter will also see class-based gameplay and the ability to heal teammates or replenish ammunition.

From what we’ve seen so far in the single player and multiplayer footage, do you think Medal of Honor: Warfighter has what it takes to differentiate itself from Battlefield 3? Or, perhaps you like that they seem similar? Let us know in the comments below!

Should Black Ops II Be Worried About Battlefield 3 and Medal of Honor: Warfighter? Treyarch Answers

With Battlefield 3 having “taken significant market share” from the Call of Duty franchise within the past few months, should publishers like Activision and developers like Treyarch be concerned over a declining demand for Call of Duty titles?

“The first-person shooter category has always been a competitive space,” John Rafacz, Treyarch Director of Communications, told VideoGamer in a recent interview. However, he continued, “Treyarch will do what they have always done – and what I think you could say any Call of Duty developer has ever done – which is staying focussed on making the best possible experience they can. It’s very easy to get caught up in mind-boggling numbers.” He reminds us, “Quite literally every night Call of Duty gamers fill about 250 Madison Square Gardens around the world. Who else does that? That is an insane number, but it’s also a great responsibility.”

Declining or not, there are still a lot of Call of Duty fans out there to please. Rafacz reveals that “the real art lies in really trying to listen to the community and make sure we’re delivering on their expectations. And at the end of the day, doing what any creative professional can do, which is delivering the best game possible.”

The question is, do developers like Treyarch need to step above the “call of duty” and put in that extra effort to win back players who’ve discovered the Battlefield series? Rafacz believes that “with Black Ops II, I think we’re offering such a diverse set of experiences and such new elements that I think people will find a fresh take on Call of Duty.” While we’re still not entirely sure what to expect of the gameplay, Black Ops II is sure stand out when it comes to setting, having been announced to take place in the near-future of the year 2025.

Of course, not only will Black Ops II have to continue competing with Battlefield 3’s extended lifespan well past its launch thanks to a hefty serving of Battlefield 3 DLC, but there’s also Danger Close’s Medal of Honor: Warfighter to keep an eye on. However, Treyarch seems confident as Rafacz explains, “Just focus on what you do and do it as well as you can and everything will fall into line.”

What do you think? Are titles like Battlefield 3 and Medal of Honor: Warfighter stealing Call of Duty’s thunder? Do they still have a long way to go?
