Battlefield 3 Spectator Mode: “There Hasn’t Been a Definitive No” and More on Private Servers

Though it’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the possibility of a spectator mode or private matches making their way to Battlefield 3, some recent mumblings have been noted between the community and members of the DICE team.

While there still no confirmation on any sort of spectator mode becoming a reality, Daniel Matros, Global Community Manager, can at least confirm that it’s not an impossibility. When asked about the possibility of implementing a spectator mode, Matros answered, “we’ve talked about it a lot and there hasn’t been a definitive no.” Basically, “its not a yes and it’s not a no.” It’s been roughly five months since the release of Battlefield 3 and hopes are beginning to run low, but at least we can take safety in knowing that we have yet to hit rock bottom.

Over on the official Battlefield twitter handle, fans are asking if consoles will ever see private servers or have the ability to create private matches. While the initial response of “it has been noted and sent…” wasn’t much to go by, it was also mentioned that they “need a green light first.” Could this possibly mean that something is in the works and simply needs approval? Again, it’s not much to go by, but it leaves a glimmer of hope.

Tim Kjell, Gameplay Designer at DICE, also had a few things to say regarding private servers. When asked why it was decided that Battlefield 3 would not include private servers, Kjell clarified that “it was a time thing. We had more pressing issues to deal with and unfortunately didn’t have resources for that before launch.” Since it is after launch, perhaps more time can be allocated to creating such a feature? Kjell added that “there’s been tons of talk about it, but it’s nothing I can confirm at this point.” Commenting on the lack of updates from DICE and EA in general, Kjell let it be known that “most people at DICE that are on twitter want to say loads but simply can’t. Will update whenever possible.”

Meanwhile, make sure to read up on some of the latest tentative patch notes as well as some of the shotgun and Comrose 2.0 concerns that came along with it.

Do you think DICE will make it happen? Will Battlefield players ever be able to enjoy private servers and a spectator mode? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Medal of Honor: Warfighter Multiplayer – What Needs to Change

Medal of Honor released in 2010 is EA’s (Danger Close with the assistance of DICE) first attempt of transitioning the desaturated WWII genre in favor of a more contemporary conflict.  Depicting the war in Afghanistan, MOH’s multiplayer allowed players to fill the role of Army Rangers and Tier 1 operators, representing the best of the best within the military community.  Controversially, players were allowed for the first time to play as Taliban insurgents causing an uproar among some media sites exerting, “war is not a game.”  So, how did the shift from WWII to modern conflict fare for EA?  Quite honestly, Medal of Honor is a mixed bag hampered by unoriginality and suffering from an identity crisis in its multiplayer.  With that said, here’s what I’d like to see change in the recently announced MOH: Warfighter.

Treat the Conflict with Respect:

Trivializing military violence in both Battlefield and Call of Duty I have no problem with, since the conflicts illustrated in both games represent fictional scenarios.  The war in Afghanistan, however, is a sensitive subject where coalition forces continue to serve and die in attempts to rebuild and maintain security in various parts of the country.  Therefore, the ambiguous multiplayer experience (in reference to MOH 2010) seems to vulgarize the actual conflict because it does not delineate the war faithfully.  If EA is to portray the war on terror, they should do so accurately and with respect to the brave actions undertaken by coalition forces.

Retain Authenticity from the Singleplayer:

Aside from its linearity, I enjoyed MOH’s singleplayer because the dialogue mixed with the environments provided an experience that was partly believable.  The MOH series have always been known in its reference and emphasis on authenticity.  Thence, I was disappointed that the theme of authenticity did not permeate over to the multiplayer aspect, comprised of gametypes that are lackluster compared to other shooters.  It would be nice to see the next game implement an atmosphere true to the conflict in aims to engage and educate the player.

Add a Campaign Co-op Feature:

It is increasingly clear that most shooters stress cooperative play as it produces interesting scenarios for players to work together and solve problems.  While playing the campaign, it was difficult not to imagine that the three NPC’s you follow could have been assumed by real players.  It could have also been an opportunity for EA to permit players to understand that the soldier’s commitment to the mission comes from their stalwart camaraderie, a theme present in the game’s ending.  Campaign Co-op can also afford longevity to a game, one that MOH could have definitely benefited from.

Give it an Identity:

With the popularity of both Battlefield and Call of Duty, it’s easy for other developers to succumb and capitalize on ideas that make both these games so successful.  This however is no excuse for EA to copy and paste gameplay mechanics from both games in the guise of  slight cosmetic changes.  MOH’s multiplayer suffers from an identity crisis that makes it extremely difficult to enjoy.  Why not adopt the open approach gameplay demonstrated by previous titles such as MOH Airborne?  MOH needs to focus on expanding ideas that assume originality, otherwise it will continue to flounder.

In conclusion, it pains me to see a formerly superb franchise attempt to build up its success based on other games, which is partly responsible for the franchise’s stagnation.  The only way MOH Warfighter can stay relevant is to adopt innovation because we currently live in an era that demands change.  Now is the perfect time for EA to embrace it.

Let us know in the comments below, what changes do you think Danger Close needs to make to Medal of Honor multiplayer in order for Warfighter to stay relavent in a crowded shooter genre?

Modern Warfare 3 Dev Agrees Final Stand is “Frustrating” But It’s a Compromise

Last Stand. A perk that all Call of Duty players love to hate. While Infinity Ward/Sledgehammer Games did exclude it from their latest title, Modern Warfare 3, the same can’t be said for it’s little brother, Final Stand, which lingered on in the form of a Deathstreak. Robert Bowling, Creative Strategist, shares his thoughts.

The general consensus is that Final Stand should be removed and that no one wants it in Call of Duty. However, Bowling counters, “I wouldn’t say no one. Deathstreaks are popular among the lesser skilled players. The game has features for all skill sets.” At the same time Bowling also empathizes with those who fathom the perk. He explains that “Last Stand was removed because it was super annoying as a perk (used every death), kept Final Stand as compromise (every 4). I understand for guys like you & I who find it annoying no matter how often it is, this still sucks, but it is what it is.”

Bowling spoke of the subject in greater detail during a recent Machinima Respawn Livestream event: “Deathstreaks are the thing that’s always going to piss off good players and always make bad players happy. But there are a lot of people who play call of duty and no one likes to constantly get owned.” He went on to explain that “the difference between final stand and last stand is, at least with removing it as a perk, it’s not happening every time someone dies. And that’s the benefit we got and that’s why I was so happy that it was gone cause you see it much less often.” Again, while Bowling believes it necessary to help out those who struggle in Modern Warfare 3, he admits that it can cause frustration: “You know, when you still see it, it’s frustrating as hell – if you hate that concept to begin with, which I do and other people do. But then there are other people who disagree with us. And so it’s that balance – it’s the compromise of game development.”

If you missed it, Bowling also shared his thoughts on bringing classic maps to MW3 in the same livestream, which you can check out here.

The big question is, will we see some form of Last Stand or Final Stand in the next Call of Duty title? After all, Treyarch’s David Vonderhaar already shared his thoughts on how perks affect the competitive nature of Call of Duty.

Of course, we want to hear your thoughts on Last Stand/Final Stand in the comments below! Love it? Hate it? Do you think Deathstreaks even belong in Call of Duty?

Modern Warfare 3 Elite Playlists Updated to Only Have DLC Maps

Yesterday, Beachhead Studios, the developers of Call of Duty Elite, released an update to consolidate the Elite playlists on Xbox 360.

Beachhead cited “community demand” to be the reason for the update. The Elite Playlists will only feature the new maps in the rotation from going forward. The Elite Playlists section used to feature both DLC maps and Modern Warfare 3 vanilla maps, and had six gamemodes, which you can find here.

The three consolidated gamemodes are:

  • Popular game modes Team Deathmatch, Domination and Kill Confirmed only
  • ELITE Objectives
  • Hardcore Ricochet and Mosh Pit

Also, the additions of Hardcore HQ and Hardcore FFA, which we reported on, saw the removal of Harcdore Tactical in the Advanced Playlists on all three platform, PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Thanks to Ian for the tip!

Everything You Need to Know About Call of Duty Elite: Clan Operations

Call of Duty Elite Clan Operations went live a few days ago. Here’s everything you need to know to get started.

A Video Walkthrough:

[youtube id=”NgJhierl8ig” width=”600″ height=”350″]

Frequently Asked Questions (as answered by Beachhead studio on the official forums)

What are Clan Operations?

Clan Operations are competitions which score players and Clans based on a specific statistic in a selected game mode over a pre-set period of time.  Operations can range from Most Team Deathmatch Kills to Most Captures in Domination, generally last for three to four hours, and award real prizes and ELITE badges.

The two key differences between Clan Operations and Lone Wolf Operations are that Clan Operations score members of Clans instead of independent players, and Clan Operations award Clan XP.  Please note that only the scores of up to six Premium members of your Clan will count towards winning prizing.

How do I enlist my clan in a Clan Operation?

Your Clan Leader must enlist your Clan into a Clan Operation through the Compete section of the ELITE website.  If your Clan is not signed up you should contact your Clan Leader to enlist.

Why does Clan Operations say “Coming Soon” in the 360 & PS3 console app?

Clan Operation functionality will be coming to the console app in a future TU.  In the meantime, please have your Clan Leader enlist your Clan through the Compete section of the ELITE website.

Can we challenge other Clans in an Operation?

Not directly. Clan Operations allow Clans to compete for placement on the Clan Operation Leaderboard. The top six scores from participating Premium members in your Clan are combined and ranked on the Clan Operation Leaderboard.

How are prizes awarded?

Prizes are awarded according to the Winning Criteria of a Clan Operation and your Clan’s performance on the Clan Operation Leaderboard.

An example of winning Criteria:

  • Champion: Single best Clan
  • Gold: 90-100%
  • Silver: 75-90%
  • Bronze: 50 75%

Who is eligible for Clan Operation prizing?

Only Premium members who are in the same region as their Clan Leader are eligible for physical prizing in Clan Operations.  See Clan Operation rules for full eligibility details.  Premium members in every region are eligible for Clan Operation digital prizing (badges & Clan XP).

How do I know my Clan is enlisted for the Clan Operation?

You can confirm that your Clan is enlisted by checking the Clan Operation detail page.  Your clan will show up as “Enlisted” if enlisted or “Not Enlisted” if your Clan is not enlisted.

Why can’t I see how the other Clans are performing during the Operation?

Due to winner verification procedures, the leaderboard is not published until after the Clan Operation has completed.

Will there be real prizes for any of the operations like in some of the Lone Wolf Operations?

Yes, some Clan Operations will offer real prizes and digital prizes such as badges and Clan XP as well.

How long will it take to post the winners?

Dependent upon the type and value of a prize, it may take seven to ten days after the conclusion of the Event or Operation to verify and notify potential winners by email.

Why didn’t my score help towards my Clan’s rank on the Operation leaderboard?

Your Clan’s performance is based on the top 6 Premium members who participated in the Operation. If your score is outside the top 6 in your Clan, it does not contribute.

How can I tell which players’ scores will count towards my Clan Ranking?

You can tell which players’ scores count by checking the top 6 Premium members listed in the Your Clan’s Performance section of the Clan Operations details page.

My Clan got XP but I didn’t.  Why?

Clan Operations earn your Clan XP within ELITE.  This is separate to XP earned within the game.

Will Clan Operations be available in Hardcore Mode?

We will introduce variation in type of Clan Operations offered on ELITE over time and Hardcore Modes are definitely part of the plan.

What types of Clan Operations will be made available?

The initial Clan Operations that will be made available are:

  • Co-Op Warriors – Highest Total Kills: Core Team Deathmatch
  • Sticky Fingers – Highest Total Captures: Core Domination
  • Flagged for Removal – Highest Total Defends: Core Domination

What type of bragging rights are we going to get as the winning clan?

Clans can receive badges for their Clan Showcase and Clan XP to progress their Clan Level based off their performance in Clan Operations based off their performance. Clan Level unlocks include:

Level 1

  • Clan Background Pack 1
  • Leaderboard
  • Clan Operations
  • Roster

You can find upcoming and in-progress Clan Operations by visiting the Compete section.

How do I suggest a Clan Operation to my Clan Leader?

You can suggest a Clan Operation to your Clan Leader on your Clan Feed.

Will my score be counted if I join a Clan during a Clan Operation?

If you join a Clan that has already enlisted in a Clan Operation, the stats you accumulate after you join the Clan will count.  If you leave a Clan while it’s enlisted in a Clan Operation, your score will be removed.

Is there a minimum number of people needed to participate in a Clan Operation?

There is no minimum to participate.  However, only the scores of up to six Premium members of your Clan will count towards winning Clan Operations.

Why aren’t the clan leaderboards updating immediately?

The overall Clan Operation Leaderboard is not posted until after the Clan Operation has completed and winners have been verified.  Your Clan’s performance updates at various intervals throughout the course of a Clan Operation.

I lead/belong to a Clan in a different country. How will I know when Operations are taking place?

You can check when Clan Operations are taking place by visiting the Compete section.  Operation times will be listed in your time zone automatically.

Online Code of Conduct for Operations (as outlined by Beachhead studio on the official forums)

The following list is not exhaustive but is representative of what constitutes a violation of the Code of Conduct and/or Service Agreement and may result in actions taken against any players involved:

  • Boosting/Collusion – Working with other players to artificially elevate a player’s or group of players’ score.
  • Glitching – Exploiting unintended technical nuances of the game to improve a player’s or group of players’ performance. For example, using an unintended hole in map architecture.
  • Hacking – Modifying the game executable, game data or otherwise using technology to alter a player’s or group of players’ performance.
  • Unacceptable Behavior – Verbal abuse, harassment or other related behavior as described in the Call of Duty ELITE Service Agreement.

EA Wants to Own The FPS Genre by 2014, Will Battlefield: Bad Company 3 Be the Knockout Punch?

Electronic Arts has set their sights on reclaiming the first-person shooter throne for a while now – two and half years, to be exact. And COO, Peter Moore, predicts that within the same amount of time, EA will, indeed, own the genre based on their original 5-year plan to make it to the top.

Speaking at an Electronic Arts Information Session at the University of British Columbia, Moore expressed EA’s continuing desire to overtake the shooter genre by the year 2014, specifically referencing the Call of Duty franchise, according to our sources. Moore explained that EA plans on doing so by means of their star shooter franchise, Battlefield, as well as the technology backing it up. With the power of game engines like Frostbite 2 and their A.N.T technology, EA is banking on their research in these technologies to become a large part of their success.

While it may seem obvious, this implies another major release in the Battlefield franchise by next year, or soon, if EA really wants to kick things into gear. While it is unlikely that gamers will be seeing a direct sequel to Battlefield 3 any time soon, the same can’t be said for a sequel to Digital Illusion CE’s popular spin-off series, Battlefield: Bad Company.

Making the scenario of a sequel to 2010’s Battlefield; Bad Company 2 all the more likely is a statement made by an EA spokesperson regarding the Bad Company series: “Obviously no announcements to make on this, but we see Battlefield Bad Company as a very viable component of the Battlefield universe moving forward.”

Though a follow up to 2010’s Medal of Honor was revealed last week, titled, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, and is set for release this October, EA still wants to keep Battlefield 3 relevant. Moore also specifically mentioned his admiration for Activisions subscription-based service, Call of Duty: Elite. He added, “Certainly we’ve got a digital content flow yet to be announced on that. We will look at different business models that will make a good value for the consumer.”

Call of Duty has obviously seen mass success in the recent years, especially on the consoles, platforms that recent entries to the series was obviously tailored to. This is not surprising seeing its extremely wide user base compared to that of the PC. It could be said that this was one of the main motivations for the Bad Company series in the first place – a shooter aimed at the console audience. Keeping this in mind, and given Bad Company 2′s more “focused” approach to first-person shooters when compared to Battlefield‘s more “sandbox” play style, it is likely that EA will be relying heavily on the appeal of Battlefield: Bad Company 3. If EA really wants to take the cake on this one and hit Call of Duty where it hurts, their going to have to win the console audience over, and audience currently dominated by Activision’s Call of Duty franchise. The release of Bad Company 3 could do wonders to aid EA in its goal.

Also lending to this theory is the confirmation that DICE will not be developing multiplayer for Medal of Honor: Warfighter this year, giving them a head start in producing their next title. And, as we all know, it’s been made known that a number of DICE employees have left work on Battlefield 3 to focus their attention elsewhere.

Of course, we should not forget that Respawn Entertainment, who are now also under the EA umbrella, are set to release their debut FPS in 2013. In this case, perhaps EA would not want to push out two AAA FPS games in the same year, meaning a 2014 release of BFBC3 might make more sense. The question is, will EA save the next Bad Company sequel as the final blow to the heavyweight that is Call of Duty? Either way, the next couple of years are shaping up to be an exciting time for the FPS genre.

We want to hear your thoughts. What year do you think we’ll be seeing Battlefield: Bad Company 3 and will it be the real “CoD killer”? Do you think EA has what it takes to overtake the Call of Duty franchise or do you even care? Let us know in the comments below!

New Medal of Honor: Warfighter Details – Co-op Confirmed

Since the reveal of Danger Close’s Medal of Honor: Warfighter only a few days ago, many fans have taken up the hunt for further details for both the single, and multiplayer.

Luckily, the NeoGAF forums detailed some of the things we can expect from one of 2012’s hottest shooters. Starting off with the competitive multiplayer, it seems that Medal of Honor: Warfigher “will include various international tier 1 factions (British, Australia, German, Polish) and some kind of one-shot, one kill hardcore mode.” As for other game modes, “there will also be a co-op mode, but the game won’t have full campaign co-op.” Interestingly, developers also stated, “there are hooks in our multiplayer that are… different.”

The full list of details can be viewed below:

  • Developed by Danger Close (both single and multiplayer)
  • Frostbite 2.0
  • Releasing October 2012
  • The story continues to be about Tier 1 Operators.
  • The story is also written by Tier 1 Operators, and loosely follows actual events and operators.
  • Now working with over 24 operators for information and feedback, since they were quite happy with MoH1 and a lot more volunteered to help.

MINOR CAMPAIGN SPOILERS AHEAD:

  • Besides just the missions, the game’s plot line will focus on the personal issues operators face. One example given is about a strained phone call between an operator and his wife.
  • The main characters of the previous game return.
  • One of the missions takes place in Isabela City in the Philippines after it has been flooded by a typhoon, creating a Venice like scenario with knee high water.
  • Again, as it’s based on real events, they don’t want the game to feel like a Michael Bay movie, so you won’t see things like the Eiffel Tower exploding.
  • However, since it is Frostbite 2, you will see things like the level chipping apart, papers flying, chandeliers swinging, and other things that are more plausible in a combat situation.
  • You will sometimes have multiple choices when faced with a situation. One example given is during a hostage rescue, you reach the door to the room the hostages should be in. You can either kick it in, C4 it, throw a grenade in, or use a flash bang. This will presumably change how the next part plays out tactically.
  • The rest of this section involves trying to escape the city with two hostages in tow and one of your teammates bleeding out. It’s implied there’s some kind of time pressure here, but not explicitly stated if there’s a clock.
  • OXM notes that the biggest difference between the game’s campaign and other modern warfare shooters will again be tonal, so if you’re wondering if you will like the game’s campaign, ask yourself if you want a more polished/improved version of Medal of Honor 2010.
  • Presumably, this is the mission that may be demonstrated at their March 6th conference.

Let us know your thoughts about Medal of Honor: Warfighter in the comments below and stay tuned to MP1st for more details!

How Counter-Strike Might Unify the Fractured Gaming Community

Despite being developed by a relatively obscure team (Hidden Path’s only other game is the PC/XBLA title Defense Grid: The Awakening), Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has the potential to break down one of gaming’s oldest and most unyielding barriers.

Staunch PC gamers have generally abhorred the far less accurate and precise gamepad, and been wary (justifiably so) of the closed and restrictive networks offered through Microsoft and Playstation’s respective consoles. Conversely, console gamers appreciate the lack of upgrading required with a console, and many prefer spending less money on a dedicated gaming platform despite its limited optimization and mod support. You only need to go as far as the nearest message board to witness the hostility that can unfortunately rise up between these two factions.

However, with the impending release of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, things could change. CS:GO will feature unrestricted cross-platform play between Playstation 3, Mac, and PC players, as well as offer mouse and keyboard support for PS3 players. Valve has already dedicated resources and lip service to the PS3 through its interconnectivity with last Spring’s Portal 2, and its work with that game and its upcoming free DLC have helped the developers establish the groundwork they will need to properly launch CS:GO across multiple platforms.

At first glance, this might not seem so revolutionary. We’ve seen PC to console cross-platform games before. 2007’s Shadowrun reboot was arguably the most accepted (though still not by any means a resounding success) until 2011’s Portal 2 debuted with cross-platform co-op. We’ve also seen PC controls make their way to consoles. Late 2007 saw Epic’s Unreal Tournament 3 reach the PS3 with mod and mouse/keyboard support.

So what gives? Why might CS:GO be the game to finally unite the two audiences?

First off, Counter-Strike is not Shadowrun. It is also not, arguably, Unreal Tournament. Counter-Strike has one of the most dedicated fanbases of any game in history. Hundreds of thousands of players log in to CS on any given day. That’s impressive considering the series consists of essentially 2 titles, one of which (CS: Source) is basically an enhanced version of the first, which has been played regularly since the late 90’s. Counter-Strike can easily go toe-to-toe with the heavy hitters; in fact, Call of Duty, Battlefield, and other modern shooters gleaned quite a bit of inspiration from CS.

Second, this is coming from Valve. When was the last time Valve put out a shoddy product? Pretty much never. Even the developers working in tandem with Valve (Left 4 Dead’s Turtle Rock Studios, Hidden Path Entertainment) are held to the same standard of quality as Valve’s core teams. The only times Valve have slipped is with console ports that they were unable to support in the way they usually do because of restrictive networks (see the Team Fortress 2 Xbox 360 debacle). With Steamworks integration on the PS3, this one stumbling block has been removed.

As well as the inherent popularity of the franchise and Valve’s steady hand at the wheel, CS:GO will also make gains in its treatment of players. PS3, Mac, and PC players will share lobbies, and there will be no auto-aim or concessions given to the console players. Unless there is a lobby or deathscreen icon identifying a console player (ala Mario Kart Wii’s wheel image), players will not even know if their teammates are console or PC players. And before the PC players offer a snarky remark in regards to being able to identify the console players by their death and loss count, remember that they might be playing with the exact same mouse, keyboard, and sensitivity you are. Many avid PC gamers have adopted console gaming as a hobby over the past decade or so, and this will be a title that interests a wide range of players.

CS:GO might be a resounding success and connect gamers on multiple platforms. It might not; there are no guarantees, especially when it comes to the fickle nature of the gaming community. However, despite its past misgivings and outright spitefulness in regards to home consoles (Gabe, we’re looking at you, man), Valve has a chance to usher in a new era of connectivity and shared gaming experiences that could integrate two divided communities enjoying the same pastime. Perhaps future CS eSport teams will feature a blend of computer and console players? One can only dream.

Twisted Metal Patch No. 2 Now Live; Some Network Improvements, More Fixes Coming

Twisted Metal patch 1.02 has officially gone live and David Jaffe gives an update on network errors.

As of right now, I can confirm that there are some improvements over the network error that has been plaguing the game for the last two weeks, but only slightly (at least for me). According to Jaffe, some users are reporting that it’s way better than before while others have said it has gotten much worse. Eat, Sleep, Play and Sony then decided to take down the servers in hopes to get everyone to update.  However, since the revival of the servers, I can say that there’s still an abundance of network errors. We should, though, give the game a complete 24 hours post patch as there are still many players who don’t have the current patch.

Starting tomorrow (Feb. 25th), ESP and Sony will be deploying new bandwidth servers. According to Jaffe, players with low bandwidth may be currently trying to run games with 16 players which is causing the issues with joining games. The fix is meant to allow players with low bandwidth to support low player counts while those with big bandwidth can support the bigger games.

For those who’ve downloaded the patch, do you notice any network improvements? Let us know in the comments below.

Valve Experiments With Counter-Strike: GO Beta, New Default Map and Equipment Changes

Those participating in the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive beta are going to become subjects of experimentation in the next few weeks as the developers change the default map, and tweak some of the purchasable equipment.

According to the Official CS Blog, developers have “just updated the CS:GO Beta today and changed the default map to Train.” On top of this, they are also “trying two changes in competitive mode: buyable defuse kits and splitting helmets and Kevlar.” Developers would like participants to know, “we have created a scenario for testing the change over the next few weeks that will allow us to capture its impact. We will share our findings with you when the experiment is complete.”

It was also noted that the beta will be expanded early next week by selecting players across all demographics who filled the recent survey. If you haven’t yet, you can fill out the survey here (will launch Steam).

Below is a list of further tweaks that have been made to the Beta:

Gameplay:

  • Made Kevlar and helmet purchasable separately.
  • Made defuse kits buyable.
  • Based on pro feedback, fixed grenade spamming from the buyzone by limiting buy of one of each grenade type per round.

Maps:

  • Fixed many instances reported in forums of players being able to access areas that should be inaccessible.
  • Fixed several issues with transparent walls / other elements.
  • Fixed a few instances of incorrect effects associated with materials (sparks on plastic, etc.).
  • Fixed some problems with the bomb being able to float in mid-air after being planted.

AI:

  • Made bots less prone to getting stuck in certain areas.
  • Tuned bot difficulty. They should be initially less deadly now.

UI:

  • Made international characters display correctly in the UI.
  • Redesigned win panel and made it team-specific.
  • Fixed bug that caused player ID chevrons to remain over dead players sometimes.
  • Fixed bug that caused player ID chevrons to linger when the pause menu was up.
  • Addressed many UI issues that could occur when playing the game in standard definition
  • Fixed the screen resize options screen.
  • Adjusted the bombsite markers on the radar for some maps to reflect their locations more accurately.
  • Fixed issue that sometimes caused death notices to overlap with mini-scoreboard.

Audio:

  • Added new music for the front end.
  • Added new music for many in-game events.
  • Fixed deathcam music playing twice in competitive mode.
  • Addressed issue with front end music not stopping when playing via a CONNECT command
  • Made some more adjustments to volume level of footsteps on various surfaces.
  • Tuned ambience levels for all maps.
