Angry Video Game Nerd 8-bit Review – Take You Back to the Past

The Angry Video Game Nerd dates back over 20 years now, since he first released a few video game reviews on his website, which he then put on YouTube a couple of years later in 2006.

While the focus is obviously on the titular Angry part most of the time, creator James Rolfe has managed to make the series into more than just videos of someone ranting about a bad video game. This led to him filming his own feature film and having a few video games created based on the character along the way.

Now, Mega Cat Studios and Progamancer has stepped in to create perhaps the best game yet based on the character titled Angry Video Game Nerd 8-bit.

Return of an Arch Enemy

While the Angry Video Game Nerd YouTube series focuses on reviewing awful video games, Rolfe, at his core, is a filmmaker and has used the series to branch beyond just plain reviews. This has led to ongoing stories or self-contained stories within certain episodes. The start of Angry Video Game Nerd 8-bit dives into this a bit with an intro from The Nerd himself that explains why he does what he does, but when he announces he’s finally ready to play a good game for once. Right as he says this, a new version of one of his arch enemies, known as Super Mecha Death Christ, arrives and takes over not only his NES, but also all video games across the planet. To save the world from Super Mecha Death Christ, The Nerd does a ritual with six of the worst games he’s ever reviewed on the Nintendo Entertainment System to create the titular Angry Video Game Nerd 8-bit that he puts in the NES to try to save the world.

This opening sequence and other cutscenes within the game are presented as actual 4K video clips recorded by James Rolfe himself and really add a lot to the game, as it makes the whole experience feel like an actual episode of the series. Outside of the opening and ending sequences, these are relatively short so that they never feel like they are getting in the way of gameplay. Even so, you can always just skip them if you want.

From the very opening screen, you are greeted with an 8-bit version of the AVGN logo and The Nerd himself, as well as an NES version of the classic series theme song. I will admit I found myself just sitting there listening to the theme for a bit, as the 8-bit version is always a banger. With the rest of the game’s soundtrack also being very good, including a pause theme reminiscent of the classic Battletoads pause screen song, I wish there was an audio player in the game to just listen to the music too. From here, you can start a New Game, continue if you were previously playing, or go to the Password screen. Having a Password allows you to move to specific areas in the game when you beat a level, but it’s not necessary if you’re just playing through, as the game will auto-save for you and let you use the previously mentioned Continue feature.

The Angry Video Game Nerd 8-bit offers players three difficulty options upon starting, which are Chill as Hell, Normal, and Hard as Balls, which serve as the equivalent of Easy, Normal, and Hard of course. The Chill as Hell option even removes dying from falling in pits, as it places you back on the last platform you were on instead. It was a great decision to include difficulty options here, as it allows all sorts of gamers to play through the game and enjoy it without feeling like it is too easy or too hard. The game can get incredibly hard, too, on the higher difficulties, with it not always even being a cakewalk on Chill as Hell. For instance, the final boss fight in the game will take some time even on Chill as Hell to master, so feel free to play around with whichever difficulty works best for you.

Feeling Mega

As mentioned prior with the story, The Nerd uses six classic crappy NES games in a ritual to create the Angry Video Game Nerd 8-bit cartridge, each of which represent a level in the game in which you have to play through and beat the boss at the end. This may sound very familiar, as Mega Man is not only a major inspiration for the level setup, but also the gameplay as well. To start, you get to choose between one of six levels that have the bosses of T.P., The Devil, Speziman, Letule, Festerdrome, and F-14 Tomcat. Each level has a villain based on something at least similar to games that The Nerd has played over the years, such as T.P. being a stand-in for E.T. and Speziman being a stand-in for Pepsiman.

Beyond the bosses, each level has a theme based on either that specific game or at least a genre. For instance, Letule is very much based on the infamous Dr. Jeckyll & Mr. Hyde game for NES, with the enemies, backgrounds, and even the change to night mechanic from the game. On the other hand, a stage like Festerdrome has the boss being a take on Fester from Fester’s Quest as a giant robot now, but the bosses are more general horror-themed enemies like bats and spiders that you’d see in many classic 8-bit games. The variety from stage to stage here is a lot of fun and keeps the game fresh.

Speaking of the bosses, they are one of the highlights of the game as they are all difficult and have very different patterns to learn to beat them. The inspiration of different bosses from games that are not even the main theme of each stage is really cool and added a lot to each battle. There is even a shooter segment for the F-14 Tomcat boss fight that was quite fun. You do not get power-ups from each boss, though, like in Mega Man, so you can tackle the stages in any order you would like.

After beating all six of the boss stages, you will unlock the seventh and final stage that is a mishmash of much of what was found in the game up to that point. Unlike Mega Man, there are not multiple stages like with Dr. Wily’s Castle. Rather, it’s just one lengthy stage that ends with a very tough boss fight.

The stages are very much laid out like Mega Man, where you are platforming left to right or up and down. Something I quite enjoyed was that there are alternate routes you can take through the stages that lead to different areas and such. This allows for some variety in multiple playthroughs to see what you may have missed.

Zap Away

Gameplay in The Angry Video Game Nerd 8-bit also takes a lot from the Mega Man series, but at the same time introduces some unique mechanics that set itself apart. The controls were very tight and easy to use, as it utilized a classic control scheme that didn’t try to do anything too fancy. Pressing one face button shoots, pressing one face button jumps, and pressing another face button uses your special ability at your base level. You can also hold down when pressing the jump button to slide under obstacles as well. That seems very simple, but there’s more to the system that is rather intriguing.

The platforming itself is quite solid most of the time, with deaths feeling like they are your fault rather than the game’s most of the time. There are definitely some spots where the game does try to get you with enemies that will knock you off platforms as soon as you land, and even one death trap I found where there was no escape upon falling in it. Really, the only problem I had sometimes, especially on the disappearing block sections, was that I kept sliding instead of jumping, due to how quickly I had to react. This is pretty standard, though, and just felt annoying at times when it did happen.

Not only do you have a health bar, which of course is represented by a green beer bottle, just like The Nerd’s favorite Rolling Rock beer, but you also have something known as the Gun Power meter that you need to keep an eye on. At the start, you just have the basic shooting option from your NES Zapper, but as you get power-ups that increase your Gun Power level, the individual blasts get stronger. Once you reach high levels of the meter, you can unlock a spread gun too, which can make your life so much better in this game when taking down enemies. The major downside though is that for every hit you take, you not only lose health, but also a piece of your gun power meter. If you are quick enough, you can recover this by grabbing the object that falls. However, typically, you are not able to get these in time and will have to instead rely on future power-ups. This system was probably my least favorite thing about the game itself, but I’ll give credit that it’s something different that they tried to set itself apart from others.

The special abilities found in the game are also found as essentially power-ups, which you can activate at any time. The middle finger one makes you invincible for a short time, while The Nerd’s pal Sh*t Pickle can be activated and help take down enemies on screen. There are even more that can be useful too, so make sure to try out all of them.

The Nerd also has one more upgrade available in the game that you can find, which upgrades your NES Zapper to the SNES SuperScope. What this does is give you the charge attack ability that was introduced later in the Mega Man series and was a staple in the Mega Man X series. This was something I wish were available from the start, and sadly, you will lose it upon losing a life. When that happens, you just have to happen across the upgrade again or you’re stuck with the regular NES Zapper weapon.

Verdict

Angry Video Game Nerd 8-bit feels like the most complete of the Angry Video Game Nerd games so far due to it feeling super polished and having a distinct overall style. The Mega Man-esque gameplay is a lot of fun and the homages to past episodes is always welcome alongside the 4K live action cutscenes. The downside here though is just how short the game itself is, as you can breeze through it in no time with only a little replayability thanks to the alternate routes in the stages. That being said, the short time spent while playing Angry Video Game Nerd 8-bit was a blast and could easily be enjoyed by even those with no prior association to the character.

Score: 8.5/10

Pros:

  • Super polished and well designed gameplay
  • References all over
  • 4K live action cutscenes
  • Multiple difficulty levels

Cons:

  • Gun Power Meter can be frustrating
  • Super short

ARC Raiders Seen as a 10-Year Game by Embark, Explains Why There’s No Roadmap

While ARC Raiders is angled as an online, live-service game, one thing we haven’t seen or heard about is the game’s roadmap, which is strange to see given we’re about a week away from release.

Apparently, Embark Studios doesn’t want to give one out, and there’s a good reason for it — and one that makes sense.

This is with the studio looking at the game as a 10-year title, which is no easy feat to pull off, though certainly doable by today’s standards.

An ARC Raiders Roadmap Is Something the Developers Aren’t Keen on Doing Right Now

In a Twitch stream at TwitchCon with Embark, ARC Raiders Design Director Virgil Watkins was asked about the game’s future post-release, and where’s the game’s roadmap?

Watkins’ answer was telling of how the studio wants to shape the game, and its based on what the community wants.  Watkins shared, “I think internally, for a very long time, we refer to this (ARC Raiders) as a 10-year game. So that is the ambition we’re aiming for and that kind of dictates the type and quantity of content that we want to put into it.”

Adding to that, Watkins continued, “We are not at this stage, going to discuss roadmap details that stuff can quickly spiral into promises that can go unfulfilled if things change, but of course adding things over time like new maps, and extending questlines, and introducing new enemies, new weapons and things like that .”

“We’ll have some stuff lined up post-launch, and for a little bit after, but then it will be based on what we see out of the launch and going there after to start dropping the content that we need to,” the developer concluded.

While there’s no roadmap, I fully expect Embark to discuss the game’s post-release plans in more detail when the game launches or as we’re nearer to release. At the very least, players can expect new maps, weapons and more, which is par for the course for most live service offerings.

ARC Raiders will be released on Oct. 31 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and if the reception to the Server Slam weekend is any indication, the game is going to be the next big thing in shooters.

For more on ARC Raiders, read on to find out how progression wipes work in the game.

Battlefield 6 Down on Oct. 20, as Players See the Game Gone From Library

If you’re having issues logging in to Battlefield 6 on PC (be it Steam or the EA App), it’s not just you, as loads of people have reported the same thing happening today.

While nothing official has been said for now, we’re assuming this is somehow connected to the Fortnite, Palworld issues that happened earlier today, which is tied to the Amazon servers.

Battlefield 6 Not Loading Properly or Failing to Connect

Update: EA has issued a statement regarding today’s outrage, stating, “We are investigating reports of disconnects, latency issues and connecting to wrong regions currently. This might be connected to a general outage that is affecting services outside our direct control. We are investigating what our teams can do to help bring back a smooth server experience. Thank you for your patience.”

We’ll have more on this as it develops.

Based on our own test, it seems the PC version is the one suffering the most. We managed to connect and complete a match on the PS5 version without a hitch.

However, on Steam, dozens of people have already chimed in on how they can’t play BF6. Outage reports have also been rising on Downdetector about it.

Not only that, but the game has disappeared from some players’ libraries on Steam! Content creator Battle(non)sense has shared the following image, which we’ve seen posted by members of the community as well:

So far, EA nor DICE have issued a statement on what’s happening with the game’s servers or the disappearing game from library glitch.

If we get a statement, we’ll update the article. If you can connect and play, let us know in the comments where you’re connecting from. While the reports are coming from PC gamers, we wouldn’t be surprised if this affected consoles as well.

In other Battlefield 6 news, the deadzone settings for controllers are broken, and here’s proof of it.

Report: Resident Evil 0 Remake in Development, New Casting and Plot Details Unearthed

Following the huge success of the Resident Evil remakes, it’s no surprise that Capcom continues to work on more projects remaking classic entries. Among the most requested titles for a current-gen treatment are the acclaimed 2000 spin-off focusing on Claire Redfield, Code Veronica, and the GameCube prequel, Resident Evil 0.

Fortunately for fans, the existence of both projects has been repeatedly corroborated by reliable sources, suggesting we will see them in the near future. We can now confirm that the Resident Evil 0 remake is indeed a reality, and we were able to gather some details about the project, including additions to the plot, casting, and information regarding its development.

Plot and Casting Details for Resident Evil 0: Remake

Similar to what has been reported by reputable insiders, we have been told that the Resident Evil 0: Remake is a project that has been in development for a few years now. The title has been worked on under the codename “Chamber”, which works as a clever pun referencing the last name of protagonist Rebecca Chambers, and that voice and performance capture work with new actors for the leads would have begun at some point in 2024.

One of the actors joining this new cast is Jon McLaren, known for playing Star-Lord in the 2021 game adaptation of Guardians of the Galaxy and for his roles in Far Cry 5. We know this thanks to a mention on the actor’s resume, where “Project Chamber” is listed as one of his projects and is noted as a lead role.

Additionally, this project is overseen by Beyond Capture Studios, a motion capture company that has previously collaborated with Capcom on games such as Resident Evil 4 Remake and Street Fighter 6.

Taking into account that the actor is a lead on the project, it’s probable that Jon McLaren is the actor responsible for playing Billy Coen, the co-protagonist of the original game, alongside Rebecca Chambers.

With these casting details, we can likely rule out any return of the original game’s voice actors, even though recasting is a common practice with the Resident Evil remakes.

Now, in terms of plot, the remake is expected to expand upon the source material, although the core story will remain the same, another common characteristic of RE remakes. Before continuing, we must warn you of minor plot spoilers. The following example details new additions for the remake, which is why we’re refraining from sharing other major story beats that would give away too much.

One of these new storylines would involve the initial segment of the game set on the train, specifically concerning the train conductor. In the original game, this character is never seen and is only referenced via his office on the train, but in the remake, he will take on a slightly larger role.

We can detail that one of the scenes involving this character has him asking Rebecca for help to stop the train’s acceleration, only to end up betraying her by locking her in with a bunch of zombies so he can escape. Following this, we wouldn’t see him again until reaching a later zone in the game, where Rebecca would find him interacting with another mysterious, unnamed character who appears to have knowledge of the general situation and clearly plays an important part in the plot.

Those familiar with the lore may already have an idea of who this mysterious individual could be, but they will also be aware that none of these plot elements were present in the original game. Therefore, we should expect a more cinematic structure for the storyline.

Interestingly, despite having all these details, everything indicates that we still have some time until we see this remake, as recent statements from insider DuskGolem suggest that we would first see the Code Veronica remake launch, which is currently rumored to be targeting Q1 2027, while the Resident Evil 0 remake aims for a 2028 release.

Thankfully, we still have the ninth main installment in the series, Resident Evil Requiem, which is nearing release and aims to be the most ambitious to date, rumored to bring back an older Leon Kennedy.

On a related note, you might be interested to know that Capcom reportedly avoided re-releases of classic entries so that players would experience the remakes, which the company believes were the “Superior Experience”.

Battlefield 6 Deadzone Settings Seems to Be Broken and Here’s Proof

If you’re playing Battlefield 6 on consoles, you might have noticed instances wherein your crosshair or left stick seems to drift or have a mind of its own. If so, you’re not alone.

Apparently, there is something weird going on with the game’s deadzone settings, and it’s been plaguing everyone.

One Battlefield 6 player managed to find the root cause of it, and even has a video as proof.

Battlefield 6 Deadzone Settings on Consoles Is Broken

Battlefield 6 community member has posted a video showcasing how the deadzones are broken using controllers on consoles.

This is why controller feels bad. Upvote so devs see please.
byu/CheeseBall69696969 inBattlefield6

From the community member:

“Notice my right stick movement and my aim. I have my center and axial deadzones set to 0 in the settings. Yes, my settings are optimal and correct, I know what I’m doing. There’s 2 problems here.”

  1. The deadzones don’t actually go to 0. No, I’m not confusing them with anything else, I’ve played competitive fps for 15 years, I know what I’m doing. The deadzones simply do not go to 0, even though I have them set to 0.
  2. The deadzone is a square shape, not a circular shape. Because it is a square shape, the diagonal input is not picked up within a certain range and will only move vertically or horizontally. It should be a circular shape. This could simply be an issue with the axial deadzone not going to 0, but I believe it is not just that. This isn’t a preference of mine, it is just a factually inferior method of approaching deadzones.

It seems this is something the members of the community agree with, as the most upvoted comment mentions, “I thought my Xbox controller had a serious case of stick drift. I then tried a different controller….It’s not me, it’s the fucking game.”

Based on my own personal observation, there is something off about it. At every start of match spawn screen, the left stick automatically drifts upper left. This was happening even during the beta, and has persisted to the game’s final release.

Whatever is causing it, this is something that’s been bugging both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S gamers since launch. This is a major issue, given that sometimes you need to spawn ASAP to help extend the match, and then you can’t, since you can’t even choose where you want to spawn. There’s also an issue with tank controls, which could very well be tied to this issue.

This issue could very well be present on the PC  version if you’re using a controller. If you’ve had this happe n to you, leave a comment and let us know.

Speaking of controls, check out this PC setting change that multiple people have said made the game’s aiming feel much better.

MSI Versa 300 Elite Wireless Review – Ready for Any Game, Any Time

Gaming mice have come a long way from the days of bulky shells and cable drag. Today, it’s all about speed, comfort, freedom, and MSI’s Versa 300 Elite Wireless clearly wants a piece of that ultralight, performance-driven pie. For its price, it might just pull it off.

Coming in at just around 64.6 grams (with the dongle stored inside the mouse), the Versa 300 Elite sets its sights on the ultralight category of gaming mice while adding its own flair through tri-mode connectivity, long-lasting battery life, and solid build quality. MSI isn’t new to gaming peripherals, but this feels like one of its more focused attempts to blend esports-grade precision with daily practicality.

Over the last weeks, we’ve put the Versa 300 Elite through its paces to see if it truly lives up to the company’s performance claims. After spending hours using it across multiple titles, such as League of Legends and Doom Eternal, to extended editing sessions and everyday browsing, I can confidently say MSI has made a well-rounded performer that doesn’t rely solely on raw specs to impress. But is it good enough to earn a spot on your desk?

Lightweight and Comfortable

The Versa 300 Elite immediately impresses with its featherlight feel. At roughly 65 grams, it’s in the same class as many top-tier ultralight mice, yet it never feels cheap or hollow. The balance is excellent, with no noticeable front or rear heaviness, and its symmetrical design makes it an easy choice for both right and left-handed users.

As someone who primarily uses my right hand, I found it surprisingly comfortable to switch hands during testing with no strain or awkward finger positioning. The shape accommodates palm and fingertip grips equally well, giving it a versatility that’s uncommon in this price bracket.

MSI’s Diamond Lightgrips are another strong design choice. The textured sides provide a secure grip without feeling abrasive or sticky, even during long gaming sessions. They also double as a subtle lighting accent when RGB is enabled, more on that later.

The build quality is rock solid: no creaking, no rattle, and no flex when applying pressure to the shell. The main clicks have just the right amount of travel and resistance, thanks to Omron switches rated for 60 million clicks, ensuring long-term durability.

The only design element that stumbles slightly is the scroll wheel. While it’s tactile and precise, the ridges are a bit too pointed initially, especially during extended use or rapid scrolling. Over time, your fingers adjust, but the texture could have been smoother, something like a “flat speed bump” profile rather than hard notches.

An infinite scroll option would have been a great addition for users switching between productivity and gaming tasks. That omission likely came down to pricing, and to be fair, it’s a minor issue in an otherwise comfortable and well-built package.

A single RGB Mystic Light zone sits beneath the MSI dragon logo, offering a tasteful touch of illumination without turning the mouse into a light show. Though I haven’t been able to customize the RGB in the application, it’s not a big deal for me, at least.

Stress Test Performance

Performance is where the Versa 300 Elite truly earns its stripes. It’s powered by the PixArt PAW3395DM optical sensor, capable of up to 26,000 DPI when unlocked via MSI Center. Out of the box, the mouse includes five preset DPI levels: 400, 800, 1600, 3200, and 6400, which hit the sweet spot for most gamers.

For those who prefer a plug-and-play setup, these presets are more than sufficient. In my testing, I played several matches of Daimon Blades and played a small part of Doom Eternal’s campaign at 3200 DPI. The sensor tracked flawlessly, smoothly, and precisely, without any jitter or acceleration. If you prefer finer control, you’ll need to download the application to adjust the DPI to its maximum of 26,000 or fine-tune the sensitivity settings.

Speaking of software, you’ll also need MSI Center to handle firmware updates for both the mouse and the dongle, something I recommend doing right out of the box.

The polling rate is another area where MSI deserves credit. The company advertises a true 1,000Hz (1ms) rate, and that claim holds up in testing. Whether in wired or 2.4GHz RF wireless mode, response times are immediate and stable. Over hours of gameplay, I couldn’t detect any perceivable lag. The wireless connection feels as responsive as a wired one, which is precisely what you want from a performance-oriented mouse.

Still, if you’re the type of player who refuses to risk even a hint of input lag, wired mode will always be the best option. Thankfully, MSI includes a braided FrixionFree USB-C cable, which is flexible, lightweight, and doesn’t drag across your desk like cheaper cables often do.

The PixArt sensor itself is incredibly consistent. Tracking remains pixel-perfect during quick flicks or micro-adjustments, and I experienced no spin-outs or skipping even when testing at higher DPI ranges. The lift-off distance is well-calibrated, so lifting and repositioning the mouse mid-combat never causes erratic cursor behavior.

When it comes to connectivity, the Versa 300 Elite shines with its tri-mode design:

  • Wired (USB-C) for the most stable, lowest-latency performance.
  • 2.4GHz Wireless (MSI SWIFTSPEED) for competitive gaming with virtually no delay.
  • Bluetooth 5.3 for general use, multi-device setups, or laptops on the go.

Battery life is another major selling point. MSI rates the Versa 300 Elite at up to 200 hours per charge, and while I didn’t fully deplete the battery during my testing, it comfortably lasted several days of heavy use without needing a recharge. When you do need to top up, the USB-C connection supports quick charging, and a few minutes plugged in gets you hours of use.

The Omron switches continue to impress throughout testing. Each click feels crisp, clean, and consistent, with no mushiness or accidental double clicks. They’re tactile enough for shooters yet light enough for general work tasks like editing or browsing.

Gaming and Day-to-Day Usage

A great gaming mouse should disappear in your hand, and it should feel like a natural extension of your movement. The Versa 300 Elite gets remarkably close to that ideal.

In Apex Legends, its lightweight frame made it effortless to flick, track, and reposition. The PTFE feet glide smoothly across both hard and cloth surfaces, providing near-frictionless motion without feeling too slippery.

Switching from wired to wireless introduced no noticeable change in responsiveness, which speaks volumes about MSI’s low-latency wireless technology. Whether I was grinding competitive matches or relaxing with single-player shooters, the performance remained consistently excellent.

For productivity, the mouse transitions smoothly into daily tasks. Bluetooth mode enables quick and reliable pairing with a laptop or secondary device, while the long battery life eliminates the need to constantly worry about charging. The mode switch underneath the mouse makes it easy to swap between dongle and Bluetooth on the fly, ideal if you work and game on different machines.

The scroll wheel, however, remains the lone weak spot. It’s usable and accurate, but the occasional hard tactile bumps can distract from an otherwise flawless experience. After a few days of use, the discomfort mostly fades, but it’s the one element that feels a little out of sync with the rest of the mouse’s refinement. If MSI were to revise this design with a smoother wheel or free-spin option, it would significantly enhance the overall experience.

On the software side, MSI Center is capable, but I feel it’s a bit lacking. It covers all the essentials: DPI adjustment, polling rate, lighting, and profile management. However, it’s not the most intuitive suite out there. Still, once you’ve configured your settings, you can largely forget about it. If you prefer a minimal setup, the mouse works perfectly without needing the software.

At $70 MSRP, the Versa 300 Elite sits in competitive territory, but regular discounts dropping it to around $50, which can be found on Amazon, make it an outstanding value. For that price, you’re getting high-end sensor performance, robust connectivity options, and exceptional comfort, which is hard to find in this range.

For the average gamer, it’s easily worth the investment. It delivers consistent accuracy, excellent comfort, and battery life that rivals mice costing twice as much.

Verdict

The MSI Versa 300 Elite Wireless is proof that you don’t need to spend a fortune to get a high-performance gaming mouse. It’s lightweight, comfortable, accurate, and flexible, which matters most and is really all you need.

For competitive players, it’s a reliable performer that won’t hold you back. For casual gamers or anyone who wants a single mouse that handles both work and play, its tri-mode connectivity and long battery life make it an even stronger choice.

It’s not flawless, the scroll wheel could use refinement, and needing software for full DPI access feels a bit unnecessary, but those are small nitpicks against what’s otherwise an exceptional package.

At its current street price of around $50, the Versa 300 Elite stands out as one of the best all-around wireless gaming mice available right now. MSI got the essentials right, and that’s what matters most.

Score: 8.5/10

Pros:

  • Extremely lightweight
  • True 1,000Hz polling rate across all modes
  • Excellent PixArt PAW3395DM sensor performance
  • Three connectivity options: wired, 2.4GHz, and Bluetooth
  • Long battery life (up to 200 hours per charge)
  • Comfortable symmetrical shape for all grip styles
  • Durable Omron switches rated for 60M+ clicks
  • Strong value for its pricing currently

Cons:

  • The scroll wheel texture can be uncomfortable initially
  • No infinite scroll option
  • Full DPI range and a few other customizations require the MSI Center software

ARC Raiders Community Thinks Tumbleweeds Are the Scariest Things in the Game, and We Have to Agree

Ah, the Rust Belt, a land of beauty, treasures, and dangers. While many of you raiders are undoubtedly enjoying the little time we have left in the server slam, scavenging for new resources, better loot, and fending off against other raiders and machine creatures called Arc, there is one new unexpected “threat” that has the community in shambles, striking fear in them like no other threat in the game.

What’s that, you ask? What could be worse than the small and giant robotic spiders that leap at you miles away? Or what about the giant Queen machines? What about the literal apartment-sized machine? Well, this threat has no legs, arms, eyes, or any anatomy that resembles either a human or a machine. In fact, it doesn’t even have a conscience as far as we’re aware, but that hasn’t stopped it from causing players to stop immediately in their tracks.

What exactly are we talking about? Why, it’s tumbleweeds, and they’re apparently causing havoc in the ARC Raiders community.

Tumbleweeds Are Striking Fear in ARC Raiders Players

In case you missed it, the ARC Raiders server slam playtest is now live, opening its doors to everyone across all platforms. Things are looking pretty good for the new extraction shooter IP, too, as on Steam alone, the title has already seen over 187K active concurrent players on the first day alone. But we’re not here to talk about statistics. No, instead, we’re here to give a warning to all who have yet to step into the Rust Belt, as a new threat has rolled into this playtest, and I mean that in the literal sense.

I’m talking about tumbleweeds. You laugh now, and the reality of things is that they’re entirely harmless. Well, at least physically they are, as they can’t cause any bodily harm. But mentally? Yeah, they’re causing quite the commotion within the community, and having witnessed one for myself during the server slam, I can understand why.

We can all agree that this is scarier than ARC and Raiders
byu/thegabguy inArcRaiders

You might be wondering why balls of debris have become such a big topic over on the game’s subreddit, but let me tell you, with how Embark Studio has turned up the dynamic weather and particles in the environment with this playtest, there is nothing more terrifying than seeing a herd of tumbleweeds coming in hot, thinking they’re other raiders.

I know it’s a silly thing to picture, but given the atmospheric setting of ARC Raiders, the added debris of newspaper and tumbleweeds flying and rolling around has made players even more on their toes. It’s such a small addition to the game, yet already proving to be highly effective, with players believing they are other raiders about to attack them. You realize in the moment that they aren’t, but that doesn’t help that your heart skipped a beat thinking you were just about to get into a heated firefight.

While some may think they’re excessive in their counts, I hope Embark keeps them like this in the final release. It certainly adds to the whole tension of being an extraction shooter and is a reminder that no matter how comfortable you may feel in the world of ARC Raiders, there’s always danger lurking around.

ARC Raiders officially launches on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 30, 2025. For those interested in reading more into the game’s launch, be sure to check out some of our recently published stories for ARC Raiders below.

ARC Raiders Server Slam Draws Nearly 190K Players on Steam Alone

Yesterday marked the beginning of the ARC Raiders Server Slam, the final open beta before the game’s launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

For the first time, the test is open to everyone without registration or access codes. The goal is to stress-test the servers before release, and on Steam, that goal seems to have been reached.

ARC Raiders Server Slam Off to a Great Start

ARC Raiders steam

Just a few hours after going live, ARC Raiders reached 189,668 concurrent players, with numbers expected to rise over the weekend, which is a typical peak time for Steam usage. This is an impressive result, especially considering it launched close to the very successful release of Battlefield 6.

It’s worth nothing that if you factor in the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S’ player base, this number might be more than double, which is insane to see from a new shooter.

During the Server Slam, a hotfix was also released to address crashes and other technical issues encountered during the playtest.

If you haven’t joined the Server Slam yet, there’s still time. The test runs until Sunday, October 19, and it’s the last chance to try the game before its official release on October 30.

During the event, players can explore the Dam Battlegrounds map and get used to the core gameplay mechanics. Although progress won’t carry over to the full version, participants will receive an exclusive backpack as a reward.

For more on ARC Raiders, check out how progression wipes work in the game, and read about the PS5 Pro enhancements confirmed for launch. In addition, Embark Studios has announced a price cut for ARC Raiders in select regions, with refunds available for early buyers.

Battlefield 6 PC Settings Change Will Drastically Improve Your Aim

For Battlefield 6 players on PC who seem to feel that aiming against infantry feels a bit “off,” there’s a setting change that could drastically improve your in-game performance.

While we already outlined a host of setting changes in our best settings guide for PC, consoles, and controllers, this one change should significantly improve your aim.

Read on for what change you need to make right now.

This Battlefield 6 Aim Setting Adjustment Will Have You Getting More Kills

Players should turn off Uniform Infantry Aiming, and then scroll down to find the zoom sensitivity smoothing, turn that off as well, go back to Uniform Infantry Aiming, and turn it back on and put the coefficient at 0 (zero).

If you need help navigating the game’s maze-like settings menu, here’s a step-by-step guide:

  • Go to “Mouse & Keyboard”
  • Proceed to “Control Settings” and then hit Edit
  • Turn off Uniform Infantry Aiming (make sure Zoom Sensitivity Coefficient is at 0)
  • Turn off Zoom Transition Sensitivity Smoothing
  • Then turn Uniform Infantry Aiming back on again

Here’s a quick video tutorial by Torbis on where to find the settings:

Multiple people who’ve tried it said it works, with one gamer stating that after the change, their aim “doesn’t slow down by itself when tracking enemies.”

Another one said they tried it, and “instantly felt the difference.”

We’re unsure if this will work with controller users on consoles or PC, but it’s worth a shot.

In other Battlefield 6 news, weapon and player progression have been buffed with a server update yesterday that makes grinding far more satisfying. Another change we’re expecting is with weapon bloom, though DICE hasn’t specified when that will be dropping.

Battlefield 6 Gold Dog Tags Are Back, Hunting Season for Devs Starts Now

For Battlefield veterans, collecting dog tags in the game is nothing new, and this has returned in Battlefield 6. Another thing returning? Gold dog tags, which players can only obtain from DICE/Battlefield Studios developers.

Battlefield 6 players can now start hunting for gold dog tags, as one developer has pointed out. This is done by doing a melee takedown, which has been how it’s always been since Battlefield 3.

Battlefield 6 Gold Dog Tags Are Back and Hunting Season Is Now On

Luca Ballore, who’s a software engineer for the Battlefield franchise, has shared their dog tag online, complete with a DICE marking on it. This has been the case with past Battlefield game as well, and it oftentimes was a surprise to see since that meant you performed a melee takedown on a Battlefield developer.

In some cases, there are even events focused on it where players try their best to get the devs’ dog tags just for bragging rights. You can see the dog tags you’ve collected in the game, which is a good reminder of whom you’ve taken down with your knife (or in the case of BF6, your sledgehammer).

In other Battlefield 6 news, DICE implemented a major adjustment today regarding weapon and player progression, which should please a lot of players. In addition to that, there are changes coming to the BF Portal as well, and adjustments to weapon bloom.

Have you snagged some developer dog tags yet? If so, leave a comment below and let us know which ones you’ve taken.

Hideo Kojima Thinks AI Will Eventually Create Remakes and Sequels

Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding creator, Hideo Kojima, has always been both fascinated and cautious about artificial intelligence. He’s often spoken about the risk of losing artistic control, stressing that technology should help creators, not take over their positions.

This week, Kojima shared more of his thoughts at Brazil Game Show 2025, where he once again talked about how AI could shape the future of game development.

“I Think, in the Future, Remakes and Sequels Will Be Made by AI,” Says Kojima

hideo kojima abandoned

In a new interview with Rolling Stone Brasil, Kojima shared his thoughts on the gaming industry’s growing dependence on sequels, remakes, and how AI could play a role in that trend.

“I’m often asked what I think about the gaming industry releasing so many sequels, but this isn’t exclusive to games,” Kojima explained. “Cinema does the same with remakes and reboots. Since these works are already well-known, it’s easier to produce them and attract investment. From a business perspective, there’s nothing wrong with that. But if the industry only does that, it’s dangerous. We need to keep creating new things.”

Kojima went on to make a bold prediction about AI’s role in this trend: “I think that, in the future, remakes and sequels will be made by AI.”

While Kojima believes AI will one day handle remakes and sequels, he doesn’t think it will replace human creativity. Instead, he sees it as a helpful partner that can take care of boring or repetitive tasks, giving creators more time to focus on their creative ideas and artistic vision.

Last year, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick also shared his view on AI. He said that he doesn’t believe AI will reduce employment or development costs, calling that idea the “stupidest thing” he’s ever heard. However, that opinion seems to contrast with the recent layoffs at Microsoft, where several employees were reportedly let go so AI could take over their roles.

In related news, about 20% of games released on Steam in 2025 have disclosed the use of generative AI, an 800% increase from the previous year.

Console players should see it as ARC Raiders Tech Test update 1.000.008, and this has been rolled out by Embark today.

ARC Raiders Server Slam Issues Necessitated a Re-Download With New Version 1.000.008

The size of the cllient should be:

  • PS5 -15 GB
  • Steam – 28.4 GB

You can check out the full slate of content and rewards included in the Server Slam to see what’s in store for you for trying out the new extraction shooter.

In other ARC Raiders news, Embark explained how progression wipes work in the game, which we think is a must-read for those planning to play the game once it releases on Oct. 30.

Battlefield 6 Weapon and Player Progression Update Now Live, Attachment Ranks Reduced

That was very, very fast! Following an announcement earlier today that weapon and player progression are getting buffed in Battlefield 6 in order to make the grind easier, that change is now live! The server-side update has been applied to all platforms, and this means ranking up, unlocking attachments are now much, much faster.

The change also makes acquiring items via Assignments much easier, as the ranks for a bunch of these have been lowered.

Note that this is a server-side update, so no download is required. Players will see the changes applied once they connect to the game’s servers.

Battlefield 6 XP Progression for Weapons and Ranks Updated on October 17

Here are the changes players will see take effect starting today, according to DICE:

  • Match Completion XP per min increased by 10%
  • XP from Daily Challenges increased by 40%
  • The XP needed to unlock the first 20 Attachment Ranks has been reduced.
🔸Please Note: For weapons that are already being progressed, the UI might display something inaccurate at first; this will resolve once a match has been played with that weapon.
  • Assignments requiring Career Ranks 20, 23, and 26 to begin will now require Career Ranks 10, 15, and 20, respectively.
🔸As stated within the Community Update, we are aware of the frustrations regarding the challenges themselves. We are actively working on reviewing them, but it will ta

This means that the next update (server or client side) will usher in the Battlefield Portal changes. Even with that applied, there are also changes coming to weapon bloom, which we’re excited to see as well. Of course, outside of gameplay-related fixes, there are also bugs that have yet to be resolved, which the devs have outlined previously.

In other Battlefield news, in case you haven’t heard about it, BF6 is now the biggest launch in franchise history, as the game managed to hit seven million in unit sales in the first three days of availability.

Once more info about the next update is released, we’ll have it here for you on MP1st.

Dying Light: The Beast New Update 1.002.006 for Hotfix 1.2.6 Applies Stat Fixes

Following yesterday’s patch for Dying Light: The Beast, which introduced the new challenges players can take part in to obtain a reward, Techland has issued a new patch today, and this is for hotfix 1.2.6.

Console gamers will see the download as Dying Light: The Beast update 1.002.006, and this is another small download across all platforms.

Since this is a hotfix following a recent patch, don’t expect much from it other than a few key issues being sorted out.

Dying Light: The Beast Stats Issue Fixed in New Hotfix 1.002.006

Per Techland, today’s update includes the following change:

  • We’ve just released a hotfix that addresses the recent issue where weapon and armor stats were reduced after a player’s death or when restarting the game.

That’s about it. There are no other fixes mentioned, though there are still persistent issues plaguing players.

As for the new challenge, “A Season to Dismember,” here’s what you need to know.

Battlefield 6 Weapon & Player Progression Buffs Coming in Next Update; DICE Intends to Diminish Portal XP Farms

While Battlefield 6 seems to be hitting all the right notes, one area where it needs a significant change is how progression works. To put it bluntly, grinding for items and weapon attachments are a chore that’s a tad too much to take.

Unless all you do is play the game the entire day, chances are you haven’t maxed out a gun yet, since unlocking weapon attachments is painfully slow.

Thankfully, DICE has heard the complaints and is doing something about it.

Battlefield 6 XP Grind and Weapon Progression Will Be More User-Friendly Very Soon

In an announcement on the Battlefield Comms X account, DICE acknowledged the frustrations players have been facing with XP and grinding for weapon attachments.

The good news is, there is an update due next week that should alleviate this. The changes being made are as follows, with Assignments getting adjusted as well.

  • The XP gained from match completion and the daily bonus are being increased by 10% and 40% respectively.
  • The XP needed to unlock the first 20 attachment ranks is being reduced, so you’ll start earning useful attachments almost twice as fast.
  • Please Note: For weapons that are already being progressed, the UI might display something abnormal at first, but this should resolve itself once a match is played while using that weapon.
  • The assignments that required career ranks 20, 23, and 26 to begin will now require career ranks 10, 15, and 20, respectively.
  • While this allows these assignments to be started sooner, we are aware of the frustrations regarding the challenges themselves and are actively working on reviewing them, but it will take more time to develop, test, and implement these changes.

DICE says their goal is ” to make the progression experience feel smoother and more rewarding while still keeping that sense of achievement when you complete a milestone like fully mastering a weapon.”

Battlefield 6 Portal XP Farms Will Be Reduced

battlefield 6 persistent servers

If you’re trying to find a playlist in Portal that suits your preference, chances are, all you’ve seen since the game launched are XP farm lobbies. I know that’s most of what I’ve seen, and due to this, other matches can’t be created since these XP farms have capped Portal’s inftrastructure.

DICE is also aware of this “issue,” and will be remedying that soon.

Per the developers. “We are developing adjustments that are intended to diminish the number of XP farms taking up server space while further emphasizing playing with friends on both custom and verified experiences.”

Implementing the changes will require maintenance on the backend, and this means that after this update to apply the change is live, all experiences, both custom and verified, will be need to be republished by players before they can create an active server.

Both the XP and Portal changes are planned to go live next week, though no definite date has been given since there is testing and certification that need to be completed. Concerns about visibility, weapon bloom, vehicles not spawning and other issues have also been acknowledged, and more details on those will be shared at a later time.

DICE hasn’t confirmed whether the weapon bloom change will be released alongside the XP and Portal updates, but we’re hoping it is. While we got our first post-release patch yesterday, it was more for stability to prep the game for Season 1’s launch on Oct. 28.

Hopefully, the planned next update also fixes most of the known issues that have caused problems to players since launch.

Once the update is live, expect it here on MP1st.
