Fighting EX Layer: Another Dash Announced for Nintendo Switch

Get ready to take Arika’s comeback fighting game series on the go with Nintendo’s hybrid console, as Gematsu reports that the Japanese video game developer has announced Fighting EX Layer: Another Dash — a new title coming to the Nintendo Switch and which was revealed during last weekend’s second Japanese Fighting Game Publisher Roundtable digital event.

Here’s the trailer for the new version of the fighting game that originally made its debut as an April Fool’s Joke, but became a reality.

As a separate title from the main Fighting EX Layer, Another Dash uses a different system compared to its predecessors. The game will introduce new mechanics such as EX-Dash, EX-Illusion, and EX-Arrow, with adjustments made to the characters and move sets. The game will also use a backstep interrupt netcode — which makes sense considering the game is for the Switch and it’s already impressive that it is running on the hybrid console system as well. With input delays being factored, the character’s positions will be adjusted accordingly. Arika hopes to replace this with a better netcode in the future. More information on Fighting EX Layer: Another Dash is expected to be announced on April 1st.

While the game is still in development, Street Fighter 5 actually has special crossover costumes from Fighting EX Layer added to it like Akuma as Garuda.

Rainbow Six Siege Y6S1 Upcoming Changes Explained in Latest Designer Notes

With Rainbow Six Siege’s Crimson Heist (Year 6 Season 1) confirmed for release this coming March 16, the changes in that build are now playable on the PC version’s test servers. With that in mind, Ubisoft Montreal has shared the Rainbow Six Siege Y6S1 upcoming changes explanation in the latest Designer Notes!

Same as in the other Designer Notes, this isn’t the full patch notes, but rather, the devs giving insight to the player base on why certain Operator changes were made and so on.

BALANCING MATRIX AND TOP OPERATOR BANS

WIN DELTA VS. PRESENCE

Y5S4.3 Matrix Attackers (1)

Y5S4.3 Matrix Defenders

Please note that we are using presence to gauge the popularity of an Operator. This notion had to be introduced to reflect the implementation of the pick & ban.

Presence definition: pick rate of an Operator when not banned. Win Delta: The Win Delta is aggregated from Operator’s Win Deltas per Bomb Site.

OPERATOR BAN RATE

BanMatrixAttY5S4.3

BanMatrixdefY5S4.3

OPERATOR BALANCING

KALI

  • Increased CSRX 300 damage to 127 (from 122)
    • 1 body shot will kill a 3-speed Operator
    • 1 body shot will DBNO a 2-speed Operator
    • 1 body shot will DBNO a 1-speed Operator
    • Wearing Rook Vest
      • 1 body shot will DBNO a 3-speed Operator
      • 2 body shots will DBNO a 2-speed Operator
      • 2 body shots will DBNO a 1-speed Operator

What we’re doing now:

Our next step is to increase the weapon damage to make 1-speed Operators also fall into DBNO. Like last time, we will be monitoring your feedback and the game data to ensure we continue tracking towards finding that sweet spot for Kali. For some Operators, balance is a process that takes iteration, so we appreciate the feedback and insight the community has shared here!

Additional insight into Kali’s interaction with Rook’s Armor Plate:

With the above change in mind, we want Rook’s ability to be relevant against Kali’s CSRX 300. We are not creating any specific rules for the interaction, but we want to clarify how Rook’s Armor works:

When an operator is wearing Rook’s Armor Plate, their armor gains an extra 15% protection. This means that:

  • A 3-speed Operator will have 15% damage reduction.
  • A 2-speed Operator will have 25% damage reduction.
  • A 1-speed Operator will have 35% damage reduction.

This means that with the new damage value, only 3-speed operators will fall into DBNO when receiving a CSRX 300 body shot. The rest of the 2 and 3-speed Operators will survive that shot.

BLACKBEARD

  • Added Gonne-6 (Removed C75)
  • Added Stun Grenades (Removed Frag Grenades)

Population targeted by this change: Casual, Top Ranked and Pros.

Dokkaebi is the first of two Operators who will be encountering a loadout shakeup this patch to make way for the newest gun in the Siege armoury. The Gonne-6 will replace the C75 as her secondary weapon, providing highly accurate explosive utility for dealing with gadgets, abilities and Operators. As a result, her gadgets have also been tweaked to limit the number of explosives at her disposal.

It’s no secret that Dokkaebi has received a number of loadout changes in the past year. The initial intention for giving her Frag Grenades was to offer more utility against bulletproof devices rather than to increase killing potential. By switching to Stun Grenades, she will retain this utility against bulletproof devices while also empowering her with a wider range of tools to better adapt to her surroundings while disrupting Defenders.

FINKA

  • Added Gonne-6 (Removed GSH-18)
  • Added Stun Grenades (Removed Frag Grenades)

Population targeted by this change: Casual, Top Ranked and Pros.

Like Dokkaebi, Finka is also receiving an update to her loadout, gaining the Gonne-6 secondary weapon and replacing her Frag Grenades with Stun Grenades. Given her strong win delta compared to other Attackers on the Balancing Matrix, the slight reduction in AoE damage capabilities is not expected to have a significant effect on her performance, particularly now that she is able to accurately deny many Defenders’ tools with the Gonne-6.

MOZZIE

  • Warning will hint at the distance to Pests by modifying its blinking speed

Population targeted by this change: Top Ranked and Pros.

In its current state, Mozzie’s Pest lacks clear counters and often forces Attackers to waste time and resources in order to avoid or mitigate obvious traps. The difficulty countering him has made Mozzie a particularly useful Operator, and has contributed to driving up his presence in the Balancing Matrix.

By adding a proximity warning to Pests, this provides Attackers with a tool to more effectively avoid or deal with clear traps. While this change will not fundamentally change Mozzie’s moment-to-moment actions, it will encourage more creative placement of Pests to get the jump on Attackers.

TWITCH

  • Added Smoke Grenades (Removed Stun Grenades)

Population targeted by this change: Top Ranked.

Twitch continues to have a high presence in the Balancing Matrix. This is due in part to her high killing potential and aggressive playstyle as a secondary entry fragger.

By replacing her Stun Grenades with Smoke Grenades, this removes one of the tools that empowers such aggressive play and opens up additional role opportunities for players who would rather hang back and provide support. We will continue to monitor how this affects her playstyle to ensure any changes retain the core of why players love Twitch.

WEAPON BALANCING

G36

  • Improved recoil

Population targeted by this change: Casual, Top Ranked and Pros.

It’s no secret that the G36 has been overshadowed by the R4C and ARX and is in need of a tweak. In order to make it feel better to use while bringing it more in line with the effectiveness of its contemporaries, this assault rifle’s recoil has been updated.

Players should notice an immediate change in its handling. Specifically, recoil will no longer drift horizontally, making it more reliable. Like anything relating to the handling of weapons, though, it’s important to note that we are continuing to look at how we can further improve the feel of different weapons in players’ loadouts.

OTHER CHANGES

DISABLED STATE FOR ELECTRONIC GADGETS

With Year 6 Season 1, when a gadget is disabled by Mute, there will be proper feedback showcased to players.

Expect feedback when the following gadgets are disabled while in play:

  • Attacker drones
  • Breach Charges
  • Hibana’s X-Kairos
  • Fuze’s Cluster Charge
  • Thermite’s Exothermic Charge
  • Zero’s ARGUS Cameras
  • Claymores
  • Nomad’s Airjabs

For changes being worked on for N0kk (which won’t be part of the patch), and for more details, head on over here.

If you haven’t seen our Rainbow Six Siege coverage from yesterday, the Year 6 roadmap and upcoming changes have been revealed! There’s also a Resident Evil crossover happening within the year, and even one for Rick and Morty too!

Once the patch is out this March, we’ll let our readers know ASAP.

Tekken 7 fans, Bandai Namco has another fighter coming to the game soon! The Tekken 7 DLC 18 character teaser trailer has been released, and as one might expect from a teaser, the fighter isn’t revealed in full, though we know she’s from Poland.

Aside from the character being based in Poland, we know she’s blonde…and that’s about it.

According to Bandai Namco, the character is set for release in “early spring 2021” and that’s about it. Chances are, we’ll get more news as well as an official reveal for this fighter soon-ish. Hopefully, this is an all-new fighter and won’t be a re-skinned one with existing moves from an old character.

What are you hoping to see from this new Tekken 7 DLC 18 character?

Street Fighter 5 Update 3.05 February 22 Kicks Off SF5 Season 5 (Update #2)

True to their word given the previous announcement last week,  Season 5 of Street Fighter 5 (SF5) is upon us, as Capcom has officially begun rolling out the Street Fighter 5 update 3.05 February 22 patch during it’s server down time. This is also known as the big SF5 Season 5 update.

This patch clocks in at roughly 27GB on the PS4 version, so make sure to clear some space, people.

Street Fighter 5 Update 3.05 February 22 Patch Notes (SF5 Season 5):

Update #2: We’ve compiled the patch notes in one handy place instead of a pdf file, and this includes the fighter balance changes. Enjoy!

ALL FIGHTERS ADJUSTMENTS

New V-Shift System Added

  • Added the new V-Shift mechanic (MK+HP with no directional input). V-Shift is a defensive mechanic that consumes one stock of V-Gauge to parry an attack and distance yourself from the opponent. By pressing MK+HP again (or continue to hold the input) during the action after a successful parry, you can perform a counterattack known as a VShift Break.
  • A V-Shift can be performed at any time as long as the character is on the ground and able to move freely. This is one way in which the mechanics differs greatly from V-Reversals.
  • Additionally, V-Reversals always restore stun on activation, whether on hit or block.
  • However, V-Shifts do not guarantee a set effect.
  • Whether or not the parry is successful and the effect is triggered depends on the opponent’s move  the timing of the V-Shift, etc., meaning player judgment is needed to maximize its utility.
  • Though it’s a somewhat difficult system to master, it provides players with a defensive option against attacks/combos that are hard to counter.
  • For more on V-Shifts, please see the in-game demonstrations and the frame data at the Shadaloo Combat Research Institute.

Combo Count Display

Henceforth “combo count” will be divided into three types: “combo-count start value”, “combo count gain”, and “combo count limit”. Air combos in Street Fighter V are organized into these three types of combo count; their details are as follows.

  • Combo-Count Start Value: The numerical value used to indicate when an air combo starts from a particular move. The smaller this value is, the easier it to begin an air combo from that move, and vice versa.
  • Combo Count Gain: The numerical value added when a move is incorporated into an air combo. The smaller the combo count gain is, the easier it is to continue the combo, vice versa.
  • Combo Count Limit: A numerical value used to determine up to when a move can land in an air combo. The larger the limit, the easier it is to incorporate into a combo.

Adjustments to Anti-Air Properties of Grounded Normal Attacks

  • Many jumping attacks have hurtboxes positioned lower than their hitboxes. Grounded attacks have high hitboxes, meaning that they have anti-air properties against jumping attacks, even if they land from the front or the side.
  • Light attacks, with their quick motions, and some characters’ Crouching medium punches proved to be effective anti-airs with their quick start-up and plus-on-block properties. This made dealing with certain characters a problem, affecting game balance in ways not originally intended.
  • To remedy this, we have made the following adjustments to light and medium attacks to make them less viable as anti-airs.
    • 1) Made the hurtboxes of the lower half of all jumping attacks invincible to grounded light attacks while the character is descending after the jump.
    • 2) Added an upper hurtbox to some characters’ Crouching medium punch from 1F before active frames to the end of active frames.
    • 3) The upper half of the hitbox for some characters’ Crouching medium punch will no longer hit an airborne opponent
  • To ensure the changes in 1) do not affect battle balance too much, these adjustments have not been applied to jumping attacks performed from Dhalsim’s Yoga Teleport/Yoga Float/Airborne Yoga Deep Breath. For more information on characters with adjustments mentioned in 2) and 3) above, please see each character’s adjustment list.
  • To ensure hurtboxes added to the upper part of Crouching medium punches mentioned in 2) and 3) do not cause too many other issues, projectile-invincible hurtboxes were also added to them.

Special Counterable States from Some Anti-Airs

  • Characters who have moves or wall jumps that can change their mid-air trajectory will now enter a special counterable state between the start of the motion and when they land while performing certain moves.
  • Landing a mid-air attack that causes air recovery (except for normal light attacks) against an opponent in this state will cause a knockdown, from which follow-ups can be performed. Additionally, when the counterable state is active, increased hitstop and a heavy-attack-like hit effect will make it easy to know when a character is in this state.
  • The counterable state will last until you land, even if you perform another move from a move that causes you to enter the state. For example, if you perform a jumping attack after a wall jump, you will still be counterable until you land.
  • For more on which moves cause this state, please see each character’s adjustment list.

In-Place/Back Recovery

The following adjustments were made to make it easier to distinguish inplace recovery time from back recovery:

  • Back recovery now produces a smoke effect immediately after the motion starts.
  • In-place recovery and back recovery now each use different voice samples.

Initial Combo-Scaling of Throws

  • Starting a combo with throws will now apply one move’s worth of scaling to the combo. This will also apply to some characters’ command throws and throws that cause stun.
  • Scaling for throws used in the middle of combos has not been changed.

Rainbow Six Siege Resident Evil Crossover Coming in Year 6, More RE “Surprises” Revealed This Year

Part of the big Rainbow Six Siege Year 6 plans is more crossover content, and this time, it’s with Capcom’s survival horror game, Resident Evil! The Rainbow Six Siege Resident Evil crossover doesn’t have a firm release date, but we do know it’s coming within the year.

It looks like this will purely be a cosmetic one though, as Zofia will be getting an Elite skin which features STARS operative Jill Valentine.

Here’s a few screenshots taken from today’s Future of Siege – Year 6 Dev panel stream:

Per Ubisoft’s press release:

In Year 6, players will now have more customization options for their Operators: players will be able to adapt Elite skins and to add other gears in the outfit for a full customized set. Last but not least, Ubisoft announced a partnership with Capcom® and its survival horror franchise Resident Evil™. An Elite skin of Resident Evil series veteran Jill Valentine will be available for Zofia, with an additional Resident Evil x Rainbow Six Siege skin coming in Year 6.

In addition to the info from the press release, during the digital press event for Crimson Heist, Ubisoft confirmed that Zofia will get the following as part of the Resident Evil crossover:

Rainbow Six Siege Year 6 Roadmap, New Secondary Weapon & Core Gameplay Updates Revealed

It’s a big day for Rainbow Six Siege players, as Ubisoft has not only unveiled details on Operation Crimson Heist, but the company has also given us a ton of details regarding the Rainbow Six Siege  Year 6 roadmap, new gameplay updates coming to the core game and more.

Aside from the roadmap, Ubisoft has also dropped a flood of new info regarding the base game today (via a press-only digital presentation which MP1st attended), there’s a new secondary weapon coming to the game that should shake up the meta, a new “Streamer Mode,” and more! Head on below for the info straight from the press release!

Rainbow Six Siege Year 6 Roadmap

Crimson Heist, the first season of the Year 6, will bring the Argentinian attacker Flores and the rework of
the map Border. This season will be available tomorrow on the PC Test Server. Season 2 will introduce
an Operator from the Nakoda Nations and a rework of the map Favela. Season 3’s Operators will come
from Croatia. During season 3, 3 maps will also be slightly reworked. To conclude, the last Operator of
the year will be from Ireland, and the reworked map will be Outback.

Core Gameplay Changes Incoming:

A new secondary weapon is coming to Rainbow Six Siege – the Gonne-6. This one-bullet secondary weapon can destroy any bulletproof gadget and adds an extra loadout option to players, opening new tactical possibilities. The first version of the Gonne-6 will be available in the Crimson Heist test server for operators Glaz, Dokkaebi, Lion, Finka, Gridlock, Amaru, Iana and Zero.

Players will now be able to control cameras and gadgets after their death. This change has been made to intensify the support phase in a game, and make sure players that are out can better help their team. This feature is planned to release later in Year 6.

To balance Attack and Defense, the Attackers will now have the possibility to change their Operators and loadout as many times as they want in the preparation phase, making scouting even more tactical and offering many new tactical possibilities. This feature is planned to release later in Year 6. To conclude the gameplay updates, Armor will now be switch to Health, for players to have a better understanding on how much damage they can take. This feature is planned for Year 6.

PLAYER BEHAVIOUR

A first version of the Reputation System has been shadow tested in the past new season, running in the background but not visible for players. The goal of this tool is to encourage positive behavior within the game by rewarding players with a positive impact on the game with in-game content, while punishing toxicity by limiting access to ranked playlist for instance. This tool will be transparent for players in order to inform them how to increase their scores and adapt their behavior. This tool will launch during Year 6.

As they are an essential part of the community, a streamer mode has been designed for content creators to control their anonymity when playing. This tool will allow them to hide their name, region and ping, hide everyone else in the match, include a hidden matchmaking delay, hide their current clearance level and profile image. A first version of this tool will be available in the Crimson Heist Test Server.

QUALITY OF LIFE

In addition, quality of life improvements are planned during Year 6: DDoS attacks, already down by 90% this year, will still be a major focus to improve players’ experience. The technical team is working closely with our partner Microsoft Azure to keep reducing matchmaking time and to improve servers’ stability. Lastly, the development team is making a strong effort to reduce the game size in general. This is an ongoing effort already running and that will be more and more visible for players this whole year.

Stay tuned here for MP1st for more Rainbow Six Siege Crimson Heist news.

Xbox Has Many More FPS Boosted Titles Releasing Over Coming Months, Dragon Age Inquisition Reportedly Coming

Microsoft has big plans for the FPS boost feature found on the Xbox Series S and X as it has been stated that many more titles will be added in the coming months, with possibly Dragon Age Inquisition coming.

Speaking again in this week’s Podcast with Major Nelson, Senior Software Engineer Jason Ronald sat down to talk about the recent release of Xbox’s “FPS Boost,” stating that fans can expect to see plenty more titles to be added to the list of supported games.

Yeah, this week is just the first set of titles that we are releasing. We have many more titles in development and in testing right now, and will continue to release more titles over the coming month. Unfortunately this technique does not work on all titles.
You know in some cases the way the game was originally written, as we have been doing some testing on some of these titles we’ve seen like animation run twice as fast, or physics twice as fast. And what’s critically important to us is that we always respect the original intent of the creator, and that’s why we are able to do this at a platform level and that we work with the developer and publisher and make sure this still really aligns with what they originally intended.

As for what these titles may be, no exact answer were given by Jason, however in what appears to be a slip up, Major Nelson did say that Dragon Age Inquisition would indeed be amongst the titles that support FPS boost. This comes near the end of his interview with Jason Ronald where he begins to list the original five games that support is (Watch Dogs 2, Far Cry 4, UFC 4, Sniper Elite 4, & Super Lucky Tales), including a sixth one being Dragon Age Inquisition. While this does come from Director of Programming himself, he did at least clarify in the comments (not deny) that the statement was meant to the first batch of titles, with suggestions that plans had changed at last minute, with more to announce in the coming weeks.

We’ll be sure to keep you posted on any news pertaining to more FPS boost support.

Fortnite Street Fighter Cosmetics and Items Leaked

Following yesterday’s early leakage of the Fortnite Street Fighter crossover trailer and emotes, it looks like more stuff got leaked today, as the Fortnite Street Fighter cosmetics and items have been leaked, and we have the list and even what it looks like.

Same as always, note that these are based on leaks, and as such, aren’t official. So if anyting changes, don’t blame us, alright?

So far, the known Fortnite Street Fighter cosmetics and items are:

  • Skins (2x)
  • Back Blings (2x)
  • Pickaxes (2x)
  • Emotes (2x)
  • Glider (1)

The items are for Chun-Li and Ryu, and it’s not known whether more Street Fighter characters will enter the crossover ring.

For now, there is no official release date for this crossover event just yet, but we surmise, it should be out soon.

GTA 3 & GTA Vice City Reverse Engineered Source Codes Has Been Hit With a Takedown DMCA From Take-Two

To the surprise of nobody, Take-Two Interactive have issued a DMCA takedown for the removal of the recent fan-created Grand Theft Auto Vice City and GTA 3 source codes.

Earlier this week, a small group of fans successfully reversed engineered the source code for GTA 3 and GTA Vice City. This news was followed by a release over on github, which has now been taken down by site due to an issued DMCA notice by Take-Two.

While Take-Two most likely has no plans on doing any kind of HD remakes of either of the two titles, it is still their property to protect unfortunately. For those in the PC modding scene, this certainly is a big blow as the source code allowed a number of new possibilities as demonstrated by fans who reversed it. They had fixed old bugs, restored debug menu, removed loading screens, even going so far as porting the titles over to the PS Vita and Switch with the help of the source code.

The group thought themselves to be safe from a take down given the Switch port prior remaining live, and how Nintendo (who are considerably more strict) being “ok” with the reserve engineered source done for Mario 64. Sadly, it seems that Take-Two did notice and took swift action to put a halt on the rest of the project.

Those who were able to grab the code before the takedown can of course still continue to tinker around with the games, though seeing that Take-Two is now taking action, it may be wise to keep those to yourself.

Overwatch 2 BlizzCon 2021 Panel Recap: New Maps, New Looks, and Teases From Behind-The-Scenes

It’s easy to forget that Overwatch is getting a sequel, especially as the BlizzCon 2021 opening ceremonies did not feature any presentation on the long awaited sequel. Thankfully though if you stuck around online and watched the Overwatch 2 Behind-The-Scenes panel presentation — you’ll definitely get some news and what Blizzard has in store for their follow up to the 2015 team-based first-person shooter that has won multiple game of the year awards.

Here’s the full panel to watch before we get to the rundown.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQy_JRqc5FQ

As for the highlights, here’s some of the big stuff that was presented by the Overwatch team thus far.

  • Two new maps will be introduced in Overwatch 2 based on real life locations — New York City and Rome.
  • A dynamic weather event system will be incorporated into the game, giving terrains challenging elements such as storms and blizzards.
  • Hero Missions will be introduced into the game, giving objectives players can complete and finish at their pace.
  • Character enhancements and talent tree can be used by players to upgrade and customize their characters of choice.

  • Heroes such as McCree, Reaper, Pharah, and Widowmaker get new costumes and looks.
  • Story content was teased for the game, as well as the upcoming new character Sojourn.

That’s pretty much the breakdown for Overwatch 2’s panel, and a release date has yet to be confirmed but the game will definitely not arrive this year.
