Report: Twitch Ad States PS5 Games Showcase Date Is June 11 (Update)

Update: Sony has now confirmed that the PS5 games showcase date is set for June 11 at 1 p.m. PT/4 p.m. ET! Check out the other details below via the PlayStation Blog.

Now that the event is confirmed for June 11, I wanted to add that this pre-taped program will be broadcast at 1080p and 30 frames per second. This eased the show’s production process during a time when many of our team and developers are working from home. The games you’ll see on Thursday will look even better when you play them on PS5 with a 4K TV, as you’d expect.

It’s also best if you watch while wearing headphones, if you can — there’s some cool audio work in the show, and it might be harder to appreciate if it’s pumped through your phone or laptop speakers.

Original Story:

With Sony (understandably) postponing its big PS5 games showcase event last week due to the protests regarding the death of George Floyd, PlayStation fans are left wondering when the new PS5 games showcase date will take place.

Well, if this recent Twitch ad is to be believed, it’ll be this week on June 11! This was posted by reliable industry insider Nibel over on Twitter:

https://twitter.com/nibellion/status/1270022638346387461?s=21

Mind, this has not been confirmed by Sony just yet, but we’ve reached out about this to the company, and will update the post if we hear anything back.

In related news, a new trademark filing for a new Gran Turismo game has surfaced, suggesting that this PS5 games showcase could have a Gran Turismo-related announcement.

Once we know official details, we’ll let our readers know.

New Gran Turismo Game Trademarked Just a Few Days Before PS5 Games Showcase

In case you didn’t know, a PS5 games showcase was supposed to happen last week, though it was moved due to the protests regarding the George Floyd tragedy. While we don’t know the titles set to be announced at the event, a new Gran Turismo game trademark has surfaced hinting that Polyphony Digital’s next project might be unveiled at the show.

Sony has filed a trademark (via Tweaktown) on the Argetina National Institue of Industrial Property database for a new Gran Turismo game. While the filing doesn’t mention whether this will be called Gran Turismo 7 or something else, a new Gran Turismo game hitting the PS5 is a no-brainer given it’s one of Sony’s biggest properties. It’s unknown at this time whether Sony will announce a new Gran Turismo title at its upcoming PS5 games showcase, but the filing as made on June 3 — a day before the event was supposed to happen originally. This could mean that Sony filed it on that date since it’s a day before the event, thus less chances of this announcement being spoiled. Of course, no one would have predicted what would transpire last week, so Sony’s surprise might have just been leaked.

While Sony hasn’t made an announcement when the PS5 games showcase will happen, we’re expecting it to happen this week or sometime within the month. Will a new Gran Turismo title be part of the reveal? Your guess is as good as ours, but we wouldn’t bet against it.

If Polyphony’s post-launch support of it is anything like in Gran Turismo Sport, then racing fans are in for a treat.

Microsoft Executive Says Xbox Series X Devs Will Learn to Address PS5 SSD Loading Screen Advantage

While the Xbox Series X is an amazing piece of tech and is technically better than the PS5, it seems Sony’s next-gen console has one big advantage over Microsoft’s upcoming console, and that’s the SSD (Solid State Drive).

Bill Stillwell, Program Manager at Microsoft who is currently on the Hololens project (was working on Xbox prior) recently took part in a live Iron Lords Podcast where he opened up a bit about the loading screens concerning the PS5 SSD.

Bill Stillwell: I’ll say two things with that. One, I understand that its a marketing point and I think I said in the last Podcast we did, I’m really impressed in the archeticture they did with their drive and they’ll be able to do really cool stuff with it. I also don’t think it’s as impressive over what you’ll be able to do what the Series X has done and so I have high confident in that team. I will also say, look I reserve the right to wake up smarter tomorrow and someone may prove me wrong and we’ll learn. The one thing I have learned is I’v never underestimated game developers to take advantage of something and work around it, but that works on both sides. And so the ability of a game developer to look and say “okay I’m building this game and I want to have seamless transition with no loading screens on PlayStation, but I’m also gonna want to sell on an Xbox, what am I going to do to manage that kind of thing?” Like that will be the trick and the techniques, and so maybe, I’m just making this up, but maybe there are elevators in the Xbox version and not the Sony version. I don’t know how they’re gonna address it, but they will learn to address it and they will figure out ways to work around it, and that’s where you’ll get these economies of these statement of absolute versus what we can actually do when these games releases

He goes on to state that by no means he speaks for the company, though he believes that first-party games will take advantage of next-gen features, with the majority of platforms being designed for multiplatform in mind.

Given how PlayStation and Xbox games are almost always in parity with one another (based on X360/PS3 and XB1/PS4), could this be the generation that this is going to change? If Xbox Series X games will have additional loading times in its games compared to the PS5, that could be a big deal for most gamers.

Battlefield 5 Players Pushing for #SaveBFV Initiative for Continued Support

With Battlefield 5 (or Battlefield V if you want to name it as DICE did) getting its last content drop this past week, players got a ton of new content in the form of new maps, weapons and more. It seems the current player base of Battlefield 5 isn’t ready for DICE to stop pushing out content for the game yet, as the #SaveBFV movement has been launched!

Over on Twitter, the hashtag #SaveBFV has players retweeting and sharing their thoughts on how they want DICE to continue supporting the game. There’s also a petition that has over 5,600 signees at the time of this writing! Even YouTubers are getting in on the act, as YouTuber Lossy has posted a video about it as well.

Will it work? I doubt it. Mind, DICE has said that they will continue to release patches for bug fixes and other gameplay-related changes, though I suspect that won’t be enough for the player base. That said, given DICE is hard at work on the next Battlefield game, patches and fixes might be the best players can hope for in the future.

Do you want DICE to continue making content for Battlefield 5 or should the studio just focus on making Battlefield 6 the best it can be?

Dauntless Call of the Void Release Date Set for Next Week, First Details Revealed

Phoenix Labs has today announced the Dauntless Call of the Void release date, and it’s set for June 11! This update will be free and will simultaenously be out on the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Aside from the Dauntless Call of the Void release date, the first details for the DLC has been revealed as well.

Call of the Void will feature a new Escalation, introduce the Training Grounds, and even feature a live event that will culminate in the game’s next content update set for July! Here are the details straight from the press release.

Umbral Escalation – brings players deep into the heart of a mysterious new island chain where Behemoths have become imbued with the dark umbral element and strengthened with all-new special attacks and combat patterns. Umbral Escalation culminates in a face-off against the new Behemoth Thrax, a serpentine creature that uses umbral portals to disorient Slayers and attack from unexpected angles. Defeating a Thrax grants Slayers schematics for powerful legendary weapons. Each legendary Thrax weapon includes two prismatic cell slots, the ability to “bond” the weapon to another umbral weapon, and a legendary ability that allows Slayers to use Thrax’s portal ability to devastating effect. Umbral Escalation can be accessed from the Hunt screen, alongside the preceding Blaze and Shock Escalations.

Training Grounds– a new way for players to test out every weapon class in a safe place free of live combat. Not only can players join up with their party and easily grab a weapon to test out, the Training Grounds offer a UI that showcases how damage and DPS manifests in-game for the first time. This UI  also breaks down damage into stagger, part, wound, and base damage, so players can analyze how each weapon and cell combination performs. New players can pick up a weapon and view a checklist that runs through basic attacks and combos, and as players become more familiar with a weapon type, they can dive deeper with detailed combat tips and view weapon combat animations in the Moves List menu.

Once the game update is out for Dauntless this June 11, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

Destiny 2 Live Event Happening Today, Here’s What We Know So Far

While Bungie has already shared that they’ll be announcing the next chapter of Destiny 2 next week, it seems the studio is kicking things off for whatever that is, starting today. The first-ever Destiny 2 live event is happening as we speak, and it involves Rasputin.

On the Destiny 2 subreddit, players are waiting to see what unfolds today. Players will want to be in the Tower now as well. Bungie has been mum so far other than mentioning how Rasputin is taking aim at The Almighty.

Players have noted that there are lasers appearing in the Tower, and that’s it so far. We’re not sure if this means more than that. Once we know more about this, we’ll update the post. That said, I wouldn’t expect too much given Season 11 is starting this coming week, and Bungie will want the big stuff for that.

Modern Warfare Season 4 Start Date Leaked via Datamining

Just this past week, Activision pushed the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 4 start date due to the on-going protests regarding the death of George Floyd. While the publisher nor Infinity Ward hasn’t announced when we’ll be seeing Season 4, it seems it’ll be much sooner than any of us thought.

Over on Twitter, datamined files show that Infinity Ward has changed the Unix Epoch codes in the Season 3 Challenges to end from June 2 to June 10, which means a fresh new set of Challenges will be introduced, and this comes at the start of a new season. Check out the datamined code below.

https://twitter.com/geekypastimes/status/1269070523746705409

Those unaware, Unix time is a system for describing a point in time. It is the number of seconds that have elapsed since the Unix epoch, minus leap seconds.

Of course, this has not been confirmed by Activision or Infinity Ward, so take it with a grain of salt. That said, the fact that these were changed leads us to believe that Infinity Ward will be dropping the new Challenges associated with Season 4 at that date.

We’re expecting an announcement to take place early next week, and once we know more about the Modern Warfare Season 4 start date, we’ll let our readers know ASAP.

Playable PC Build of Dead Island 2 Leaks Online

Earlier today we reported on some leaked screenshots that had surfaced for Dead Island 2, and while their legitimacy was in question, it has now been confirmed that a leaked 2015 build is out there, and is playable on PC.

The build originally surfaced on the popular V board of 4Chan, and as unlikely as many leaks are to be true from there, it turns out that this one was actually legit. The build is very much in a playable state, though filled with plenty of placeholder assets.

Images of Dead Island 2 provided to us by an external source.

According to the information found in the files, this build of Dead Island 2 dates back to June 19 of 2015, making it five years old this month. The build features a total of three different locations along with different characters and classes. There may even be some online co-op, though that would require some work to accomplish.  As for how this build leaked? Well, that’s anyone’s guess as the leaker stated it came from a friend. Judging from the gameplay that’s featured in the build, it doesn’t look all too bad (not great either). A bit rough sure, but it is an early build after all. As for what of the project now? Sadly no one but Deep Silver knows the answer to that, as they confirmed last year that the project was still in development. Yager Production, on the other hand, ceased working on the project back in 2015, meaning what you are seeing in the leaks today will most likely differ from current developer Dambuster Studio’s version of the game.

Here’s a gameplay video provided by our partners at GamerPreyHD

EA Play 2020 Delayed

Back in May, EA announced that the annual EA Play event will be a digital-only show given the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. However, given the recent turn of events regarding the George Floyd tragedy, the publisher has pushed back EA Play by a week.

This was announced today over on Twitter, where the publisher revealed the new date and time for June 18 at 4 p.m. PDT/7 p.m, EDT.

A week isn’t that bad of a wait, and EA isn’t the only video game company that’s pushed back an event to help people focus on something more important.

As for the event itself, we’re hoping that we’ll get some new game announcements. Could we be getting our first details on Battlefield 6? If the upcoming issue of OPM UK is any indication, that might be the case.

Report: Dead Island 2 Images Leak

Remember Dead Island 2? The stuck-in-limbo zombie action game that’s gone through at least three studios now. Well, apparently, there’s an build of it floating somewhere now, and there are screens to back it up!

Over on Twitter, GarnetSunset posted that “Dead Island 2 just leaked,” and pointed out that “its (sic) out there,” though this is from a 2015 build of the game.

https://twitter.com/JHarrdington/status/1268988453527498752

While the original Dead Island was developed by Techland, that studio decided to developed its own zombie action game in Dying Light. Dead Island 2 was announced back in 2014, and was originally being developed by Yager Development (Spec Ops: The Line) until Sumo Digital (Team Sonic Racing) took over in 2016. Unfortunately, the studio wasn’t able to finish it, and since 2019, it’s been tasked to Dambuster Studios (Homefront: The Revolution), and we haven’t heard any new details from publisher Deep Silver about it.

We’ve reached out to publisher Deep Silver to seek a statement on this leak, and will update the post if we hear anything back.

Are you still looking forward to Dead Island 2? What do you hope to see from it that would make it stand out from the crowded zombie genre? Let us know your thoughts below.

Nimble Giant Entertainment Talks About Their Latest Time-Bending Shooter, Quantum League

If you’re looking for a new shooter to sink your teeth into, there’s Nimble Giant Entertainment’s Quantum League, a “time parado shooter that puts a new twist on things. We sit down with the Lead Game Designer over at Nimble Giants Entertainment and discuss the development behind their latest title.

Before continuing, be sure to read up on our early preview of Quantum League, which left a very positive impression: Quantum League Preview – Breaking the Timeline Has Never Been So Fun

Interview conducted with Balthazar Auger, Lead Game Designer of Quantum League, Nimble Giant Entertainment

Q:There are countless films, as much as there are video games that touch upon the concept of time-traveling. Some do it well, others not so much, but one thing is clear and that is many have felt recently that it is a cheap way to explain (or not) plot points or fixes. Quantum League doesn’t really have that issue since it’s an online focus title. However, because it is focused on competitive online gaming, the idea of working with time must have been difficult due to it mostly being related to narrative-driven mediums. Why go the multiplayer route?

Well, the very first draft of the concept sort of emerged from a very different place. Initially, I was looking for a way to make an X-COM style turn-based tactical game, but as a real-time FPS. What I was trying to reconcile is the “progressive reveal of battlefield information” mechanic in tactical games with the obvious problem that there’s no “sight range” in an FPS.

While mulling over this, it occurred to me that if I couldn’t use space to progressively reveal information, I could use time instead, specifically in the context of a closed time loop. This was actually not new, as by that time single-player games like Super Time Force Ultra or even Cursor*10 had already explored that concept. The main reason we went multiplayer is that we didn’t want to create a game where you kind of solve a puzzle; multiplayer means that both players are fighting to gain control of the timeline, which in our eyes was a much more interesting experience that very few games explored.

Q: Bit of a follow-up to the last question: I love hearing developers talk about the early stages of their games because in most cases, those games are vastly different than what they end up being. What were some of the initial ideas? What worked and what didn’t?

Quantum league started its life as a very basic two-week multiplayer prototype, which we grew organically ever since. It proved very hard to “design ahead” in documentation, since what was planned ended up having unintended side effects when placed within a time loop.

For instance, we took many stabs at finding the sweet spot between depth and complexity, mainly testing the number of clones that you play with and the length of the time-loop. At one point we tested 5 clones per side, but that was impossible to handle.

At some other point, we had a mechanic in which you picked up weapons by walking over them, like in Quake 3 or UT, but found out that there was a too high potential for chaos: what if someone grabbed that weapon before you? then what would you be shooting? Also, it was too constraining in terms of player expression within small maps… If you grabbed the rifle, there were low chances that you would snipe someone from the other side of the map. In the end, we decided to have a setup closer to Counter-Strike, where each clone gets to choose one main weapon for that round.

What we’ve repeatedly found while developing Quantum League is that there’s a razor-thin “goldilocks zone” in which complexity creates emergent gameplay. Too little or too much, and the game falls upon itself. In a way, all our development history has been us dealing with this balance.

Q: Speaking of films, have you guys seen Looper? Fun time-traveling film. I can only imagine some of the early development stages probably included studying various mediums that had the time-traveling theme?

Oh, totally! You could say I already had many of those films, books, and universes “pre-studied”, since I’ve always been personally interested in time-travel themes. One of my first industry jobs was developing “Raving Rabbids: Travel in Time”, which gave me a chance to bore the entire team to death with all the different ways to solve a Grandfather Paradox.

There have been many films dealing with time loops which we studied while working on the game… In the last decade: Looper, but also Source Code, Edge of Tomorrow… before that, you had Primer, but also Groundhog Day! All of these were a huge help when communicating the concept of the game to people outside the project during the early stages.

Personally, the most direct references I followed were “Clock Blockers”, a Youtube video from Corridor Digital, and a passage from Roger Zelazny’s “Creatures of Light and Darkness”, called “Arms and the Steel Man”. I would even go so far as to argue that they are two versions of the same idea!

Q: Quantum League kind of comes off as a Hero game, mostly due to the visuals. As we know, that is not the case and probably for the best as that style of play could prove to have some major unbalancing. What’s the approach taken to ensure certain weapons don’t become last-minute clutch while also maintaining their uniqueness?

The way weapons work in the game is similar to CS:GO. You start with a basic sidearm and can select one primary at the start of the round. There is no other restriction to select primary weapons, so we need to be sure that they are all on similar footing, but don’t feel restricted to a single match moment either.

When designing or balancing our weapons, we’re always looking at the situations it is good at first, and then at its overall use in other situations. Quantum League matches evolve quickly: a sniper rifle may be the best choice when you start the loop, but 7 seconds later it may turn from an asset to a liability. This situational balance means that the player is often doing weapon choices based on his plan for the loop, which is something we want to encourage.

Players who stick to their favorite weapon may end up feeling limited outside of that weapon’s ideal scenarios!

This approach has allowed us to reach Early Access with a weapon selection that we consider balanced without any obvious choices, with the only regret of not having been able to offer more varied combinations.

Q: How’s the post-launch support looking? Can we expect new modes and maps, along with characters and other customizable items?

We’re eager to share our plans for future updates to the game once the game enters Early Access! I can’t provide details right now but I would say that players should expect additions to all areas of the experience.

We are constantly working on maps and modes, and will be unveiling our content plans very soon.

Q: Can we expect to see some new time mechanics? Or perhaps crazier level designs with more hazards and other level interactions?

I certainly hope so! But at this point, we need to consider not only what we would love to do, but also if our community thinks that would be a welcome addition to the game.

The truth is that we believe in taking these next steps if community feedback enables it, due to that same “complexity goldilocks zone” I was mentioning earlier. If our players like the game and demand more brain-bending mechanics, we definitely have more in store 😉

Q: We’ve asked other developers this same question, and to give the folks at home an idea, how has COVID-19 impacted the development side of things seeing that most are working from home? What challenges is the team facing as they adapt to this new work style?

The entire studio switched over to working from home in mid-March before our local government ordered the national lockdown, so we’ve been lucky in having time to prepare. Overall, our studio is divided into smaller, self-sufficient teams so the organization overhead wasn’t that bad. Sure, we’ve had a rough first two weeks, but now everyone is back at normal capacity.

The most difficult thing we’re having to adapt to is missing each other’s physical presence, which it turned out impacted many processes one takes for granted: giving and receiving feedback, keeping tabs on what everyone else is doing or even remembering to just hang out together instead of just working, are things we’ve had to think carefully about.

Also, launching a game and being unable to have a proper launch party where we can hug and (physically) pat ourselves on the back is heart-wrenching!

Quantum League is now available for early access on Steam

Call of Duty Pros Discussing “Competitive Philosophy” With Treyarch, Confirms Studio Helming Call of Duty 2020

It’s no secret by now that Call of Duty pros aren’t that happy with how Infinity Ward has handled the weapon balance and competitive side of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. While Activision has been mum on Call of Duty 2020 so far, it’s been heavily rumored that it’s being developed by Treyarch, and will be called Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Over a thread on the Call of Duty Competitive subreddit, pro player Chance (using chancewm as his verified Reddit username) of the Florida Mutineers have not only confirmed that this year’s Call of Duty game is being made by Treyarch, but that Call of Duty pros are meeting with the dev team to discuss competitive play.

Stay hopeful guys. The devs over at Treyarch are really interested in making next year a great year for competitive ❤️ and I’m being 100% serious

Nope. Just meetings w the devs to discuss “competitive philosophy” 👍🏻 there’s more to it of course and tbh I don’t even know if I was allowed to share what I just shared. I know how hopeless some of you are but all I want is for us as a community to get excited and to get behind and support the devs over at Treyarch ❤️ spread positive energy guys

While the revelation that Treyarch is making this year’s Call of Duty is hardly surprising given we got our first gameplay leak that pointed to Treyarch’s series of Call of Duty games, the fact that pros are meeting with the devs is a good sign. Of course, let’s hope this means the casuals who play multiplayer will benefit from these meetings as well.

Given the recent developments, we’re assuming we’ll hear about Call of Duty 2020 officially soon.

Infinity Ward Changes Modern Warfare Loading & Start Up Screens to Support Black Lives Matter

Folllowing yesterday’s announcement by Infinity Ward on how the studio is ramping up its initiative against racist player IDs and such for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the studio has taken another step further in showing support for the BLM (Black Lives Matter) initiative. Infinity Ward has changed the Modern Warfare loading and start up screens to show support for BLM.

Hopefully, the studio’s support doesn’t stop there.

While it’s a bit disappointing that it took the studio literally more than six months before they acknowledged anything about the racist issues happening in the game (and it’s mostly due to the George Flyod tragedy) that they’ve done this, at least they’re doing something.

In related news, Activision has delayed the start of Season 4 of Modern Warfare out of respect for what’s happening in the world and the protests. Once we know the exact date and more details regarding Season 4, we’ll let you know ASAP.

What VR Gear Should I Have to Play Gonzo’s Quest VR?

Gonzo’s Quest VR the Search for Eldorado is the world’s first VR slot game. It was prototyped in 2017 and launched in 2018, allowing anyone to access it using their VR headset. But the question is, which VR headset is the best to use to play this NetEnt slot game?

Samsung Gear VR

samsung gear vr

Samsung’s Gear VR is a device that’s powered by Oculus, the company that produces the most powerful VR headsets in the market. It features comfortable foam coverings around the areas that make direct contact with your face, meaning that you can spend more time playing without feeling the fatigue that plastic digging into your face can bring. The device also comes packaged with a controller that is simple and easy to use, featuring a few buttons and a circular trackpad, making interacting with any game as easy as possible.

While Samsung’s Gear VR is a great device, and one of the cheaper options out there, nothing compares to Oculus.

Oculus Rift S

oculus rift s

Oculus Rift S is a PC powered VR headset, meaning that you’ll still need to plug it into a PC if you want to use it. However, the device features motion-tracking cameras on the front, and has specialised Oculus controllers that provide a seamless VR experience. You won’t need to place cameras around a room just to use this headset, which makes it superior to many others out there.

Oculus Quest

oculus quest

The Oculus Quest is an all-in-one VR gaming experience. You don’t need a PC to run games on this headset, which is why it’s one of the best-selling on the market. It’s easy to set up, and has the same built in motion-tracking hardware, meaning that with this headset you truly can roam wherever you want to. Once again, this headset isn’t cheap, but it really does provide one of the best VR experiences possible.

Oculus Go

oculus go

Oculus Go is the cheapest Oculus headset you can get, and it only allows you to view VR experiences. However, with a controller, you can still interact with and play Gonzo’s Quest VR, so this may be your best option if price is an issue. While this device may not have the best visuals out of all of Oculus’ offerings, it is definitely the best option if you’re after a cheaper VR headset that you can play Gonzo’s Quest VR on.

The real advantage that Oculus Go does have over other Oculus devices is that it has been specifically designed for viewing instead of gaming. This means that the images you see will be far clearer than most headsets, though the caveat is obviously that you can’t use it for gaming in the future.

HTC

When it comes to VR headsets, there’s really only one company producing hardware that comes close to Oculus, and that’s HTC. These are their headsets, all of which you could use to play Gonzo’s Quest VR.

HTC Vive Cosmos Series

The HTC Vive Cosmos Series is a collection of headsets with modular options, allowing for a wide range of VR experiences.

Cosmos Elite Headset

cosmos elite

The HTC Vive Cosmos Elite Headset alone is all you need to play Gonzo’s Quest VR, and a host of other VR games. It’s compatible with SteamVR Tracking, which is a cheaper base station used to track your movements, and can provide some of the highest quality VR experiences available today.

Cosmos Elite

cosmos elite headset

The HTC Vive Cosmos Elite is the whole VR package, as opposed to just the headset. Out of the box this comes with the above Cosmos Elite Helmet, two base stations for tracking movement, and two controllers as well. This is the most expensive package that you can purchase for the HTC Vive Cosmos, but if you’re serious about your VR gaming, then there’s really no other headset that you could go for.

HTC Vive Cosmos

htc vive cosmos

Finally, there is the HTC Vive Cosmos. This headset comes with two controllers, and has no need for base stations to track your movement. The headset has built-in tracking so that you can enjoy your VR gaming without the need for additional peripherals or wires. The graphics on this headset are unmatched, and probably the best that you can buy at the time of writing. It’s worth noting that the controllers are extremely swish as well, allowing for some unprecedented gaming following your time with Gonzo’s Quest VR.

While these are the top brands, it’s worth noting that if you’re serious about gaming, and want a headset designed by the company supporting Steam, then you’ll want this next one.

Valve Index

valve index

Valve Index is Valve’s answer to VR gaming. There are a number of different packages that you can purchase the headset with, ranging from the base unit, up to a bundle that includes two base stations and two controllers. Steam is a digital storefront that holds most of the games ever made. It has everything, from indie games, all the way up to the best triple A games of the current generation. The only games that it doesn’t have are console exclusives. If you want to be able to enjoy your Steam library in VR, where possible, then the Valve Index may well be the best VR headset for you.

If budget is still a big issue for you, but you have a smartphone with a great quality screen, then there’s one more option that might be the best for you.

Google Cardboard

google cardboard

Google’s answer to VR is only slightly better than Nintendo’s, but it’s definitely cheaper. Google Cardboard sounds like it’s just a cardboard housing for your phone, and that’s really all it is. You could find the designs online and build your own, but the ones you can buy from Google have snazzy designs, and they’re built to be used for VR. These viewers come in all shapes and sizes, so you’re sure to find one that suits your style just right. These days smartphones have some incredible screens, and with Google Cardboard you can turn that phone into your own VR headset without breaking the bank.

We hope that this little guide helped you find the best headset for you to play Gonzo’s Quest VR on. Let us know your preferred device in the comments.

Battlefield 5 Missing Cosmetics and Other Update 7.0 Issues Acknowledged by DICE

Earlier today, DICE deployed the big Battlefield 5 7.0 patch (or otherwise known as the Summer patch), which brought in new weapons, gadgets and more. Unfortunately, it also brought in a few bugs in the form of Battlefield 5 missing cosmetics, weekly missions and more.

DICE is awakre of these Battlefield update 7.0 issues, and has listed them.

Weekly Missions

Today was due to be the first in a new sequence of Weekly Missions that would run interrupted throughout the next phase of Battlefield V. Each Mission Node is now designed to award Soldier XP and Company Coin, and for this first week, we originally planned a final reward of 100 BFC.

Due to a clash with some of the other errors that we discovered today, it caused for the Weekly Mission menu to not show for all players, so some of you wouldn’t have understood what challenges you were participating in.

The issues surrounding this are ultimately resolved, however we wont see them take effect until the next Weekly Mission starts. That means that this weeks Weekly Mission is not presently active.

To account for that, we will grant 2000 Company Coin and 100 BFC to all players who login before the next Weekly Mission Starts. It will go directly into your totals, and that’s live in game right now.

Known Issue – If you attempt to access the Weekly Missions tab on the Main Menu, it will show a black screen. Press Escape, or Back on your controller to exit this. It won’t load this week, but we’re confident the issue is solved going forwards.

Missing Cosmetics

There are a handful of items that were inadvertently removed from the game today. Some Hair Options for the German Faction, along with Mistletoe are currently absent for players who already owned them. This is completely unintended and we’ll be working to get these back to you as soon as we can.

To do so will require a Client Side update, and it won’t be a thing we can do on the backend. I’ll keep you updated on when to expect this.

Known Issue – A selection of German Headgear options have been unintentionally removed. We’re on it, and will keep you updated on when we can expect to fix this.

New Weapons and Gadgets

We ran into a number of issues that stopped us getting all of the new Weapons and Gadgets out to you at the start of the day. Our first attempt to resolve this saw some players receive all but the Welrod and the Type 99 Mine, meanwhile for some players, these were the only two items that they received.

If you’ve been playing today, and this was your experience, it’s all fixed now and the next time you login, head to the Armory and go into the Shipments tab. They will be there waiting for you.

Key Info – If you haven’t already, pick up your new Weapons and Gadgets from the Shipments tab in The Armory. This is a Login reward for the next few weeks, so if you can’t login, you will be able to unlock these items with Company Coin after it expires.

New Map Rotations

As part of this update we’ve changed up the game modes that we display in Multiplayer. Outpost, along with a mixed mode of Rush, Frontlines, and Domination have been added in as fixed rotations, and you’ll see these in both the server browser and Multiplayer Quickmatch options today.

There are two issues with the new setup that we’ve published today to make you aware of however, and then a further change that hadn’t been previously communicated to you all.

First, for those who logged in earlier today, you may have noticed that we had initially separated Conquest into two variants: Tactical Conquest, and Strategic Conquest. This is an intended change, however we found a pair of minor, display issues that encouraged us to temporarily revert back to the single Conquest Playlist. The issue was that the advertised name didn’t match the names of the servers in the server list, and we had bad translation and what we call ‘string text’ displayed in certain languages. For now we’ve gone back to the old Conquest setup, and next week we’ll switch to the seperated Conquest playlists.

Second, the mixed playlist of Rush, Frontlines, and Domination had similar translation issues. We’ve kept this playlist up, but you’ll see it advertised on the main Multiplayer quickmatch menu as ‘Roll with the Punches’ meanwhile the server browser will advertise them as ‘Rush, Frontlines & Domination’ servers. Next week, we’ll fix the name to its correct display, for now just know that this isn’t the same ‘Roll with the Punches’ playlist that we’ve ran in Battlefield V, it’s actually Rush, Frontlines, and Domination.

Last update on this topic relating to Game Modes. Next week we’ll be removing the quickmatch option for Squad Conquest. The mode will remain accessible via Community Games regardless of this change. This mode has dropped below Firestorm in terms of active players, and our preference is to replace this with the Rush, Frontlines, and Domination mix listed above. Given that this is the smallest player count mode in the game, we’re keen to introduce more of you to communities such as /r/BFVCommunityGames/ and the official Battlefield Discord to post your servers, and invite members of the community to play with you. Squad Conquest will otherwise be active for the next week, and as noted here, remains active in Community Games beyond that change.

Key Info – We’re splitting the Conquest playlist into two distinct playlists next week to cater to the different playstyle preferences in Battlefield V. There’s a Rush, Frontlines & Domination playlist presently masquerading under the name ‘Roll with the Punches’ that we’ll correct next week. Squad Conquest will be removed from the quickmatch options next week, but will remain active in Community Games.

Challenge Assignments

With this update, we’ve removed all Challenge Assignments from the game.

First I’ll acknowledge that this wasn’t documented in our Update notes to you yesterday, apologies for that. It wasn’t our intent to hide this from you, and I appreciate that it created some initial confusion for folks logging on today.

If you weren’t aware of how these worked, Challenge Assignments were non progression based assignments that randomly generated onto your account as you played, allowing you to earn small amounts of Company Coin. Unlike progression based assignments (for your classes and weapons) these could be discarded, and often cluttered up your menus with long lists of challenges that required a lot of management to clear out. They also placed additional strains on our backend services which have in the past disrupted gameplay and affected performance.

With this update, we’ve instead activated Company Coin awards for completion of individual Weekly Mission challenges (we call them Nodes), alongside the Company Coin Rewards on Daily Missions, and Soldier Rank Up. On certain weeks, we’ll also have Company Coin awards for full completion of the entire Weekly Mission, which otherwise alternates with Battlefield Currency (Boins).

Key Info – Challenge Assignments have been removed from the game. Company Coin awards have been added into completion of the individual challenges during Weekly Missions instead.

New Cosmetics

I swear, this time we were genuinely going to show you these in the promotional materials before Temporyal!

There are a tonne of cool cosmetics still to release in Battlefield V, including a new range of Authentic Customization options for your soldiers. I’ll share the specifics on these when I can. Our first priority right now is on making sure all is good with the update, but I’ll be back to chat about these later down the line.

DICE notes that while today’s patch is the final content update, the studio has “more to do” so expect patches and hotfixes to be deployed when needed.
