PlayStation Store sale – EA Publisher sale (ends 10/22 8 a.m. PT):

We’ll update this post if we get the list, as it doesn’t seem to be loading (most likely EA Access is needed to see the full list of items).

Hopefully, the next EA publisher sale doesn’t have this requirement as I can see it turning some people off, which means lost sales.

Anthem Update Today – Season of Skulls Week 2 Activities, and More Listed

By the time you’re reading this, a new Anthem update today should have rolled out, and it brings a host of new challenges for the game’s Season of Skulls in-game event. For the full list of changes, head on over below. Note that this is a server-side update, and no download is required.

Anthem update today – Season of Skulls Week 2:

Happy Season of Skulls, Freelancers!

Though this is the first time all of you are partaking in the festivities of Bastion, the Season of Skulls is a time-honored tradition.

When darkness gathers across the lands, the wayfaring peoples of Bastion kindle torches, braziers, and bonfires to bring back the light. When painful memories cling to us about those who fell before their time, memories of joy, friendship, and camaraderie arise to take their place. When despair tries to take us and we feel more alone than ever, humanity comes together to cherish one another. It is a time of darkness and terrors, yes, but also a time of hope, remembrance, and light.

The world around us isn’t safe. That’s never been more apparent than it is now. But it is in the face of that danger—the constant challenges around us—that humanity has been forged to be strong and brave. The strength to fight and the bravery to stand back up when we fall, though, came at a cost. You’ve heard the stories. You’ve lived some of them yourselves. Few can say they haven’t lost someone, but the Season of Skulls is a time to remember what they stood for.

The world around us isn’t safe, but that’s why you’re here, Freelancers. You’re the heroes who protect us.

With Y4S3.3 the MMR Rollback system is getting a few improvements that allow us to more appropriately target and address those who exploit the integrity of the ranked system. A drastic MMR change is a sign of massive irregularity and a red flag in our system. So we will now be resetting MMR for such players.

This means that instead of undergoing a significant change in MMR, players will have to redo their placement matches to get back appropriately on the ladder. Players who have their MMR reset will also not receive the seasonal ranked charm for their highest rank prior to the reset.

BALANCING

GLAZ

Stay focused on the details, but detail a bit faster now.

  • Increased Glaz’s rate of fire to 380 (up from 285)

TWITCH

Less fragging, more tactical dabbing.

  • Reduced Twitch’s F2 Magazine to 25 (down from 30)

WARDEN

Warden’s Glo Up.

  • Warden changed to 2 speed – 2 armor type instead of 1 speed – 3 armor

BUG FIXES

  • FIXED – Players can use a 3rd party hack to change other players’ operators.
  • FIXED – After switching from advanced to standard deployment, Attacker’s first breach charge deployment attempt gets canceled.

OPERATORS

  • FIXED – Blackbeard’s shield clips through his body when equipping while leaning.
  • FIXED – Hibana’s XKairos pellets can destroy other pellets deployed on the same wall even if they are out of the blast radius.
  • FIXED –Defenders can place a barricade or Castle’s Armor Panel over Goyo’s Volcan Shield.

USER EXPERIENCE

  • FIXED – Radio music doesn’t stop playing even when the radio is destroyed.
  • FIXED – Right clicking when in the scoreboard will cause player to enter ADS and the selected tab simultaneously.
  • FIXED – Mute text chat option does not work on LAN.
  • FIXED – When going into observation mode, SFX plays twice.
  • FIXED – My Rank UI tab now shows your current rank in the season instead of the highest rank achieved.
  • FIXED – Minor visual texture issues for Uniforms.
  • FIXED – Visual glitch if players switch weapons after rappelling.
  • FIXED – Menu UI visual fixes.

BUG FIXES

Thank you for providing feedback on the AFK / leeching system since it’s release in v11.00.

Homebase released a hotfix last week to tone down the restriction of the system and Commanders are reporting improvements across the board. We’re taking the feedback further in the v11.10 update by removing the leeching system from private matches and friend matches.

Additionally, we’re taking another look at spawn points for SSDs as we’ve noticed the feedback regarding cross spawns at Ramp West and Beach North in Twine Peaks. We’re working to correct this in the v11.10 update.

Also of note, based on Fortnite dataminer FireMonkey, an XP buff is part of this patch too!

Given how Epic has changed how it handles patches, expect future patch notes posts to be structured this way moving forward. If you notice something not included here, let us know in the comments.

With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare already in the hands of some people, it’s just a matter of time before we see gameplay out in the wild, and that’s exactly what has happened. Check out Modern Warfare gameplay of the P90, FAL, and other weapons.

Note that these against what I assume are bots, and they’re not in-depth looks or anything but just a quick look at each.

We’ll probably see more gameplay of the other stuff soon, too. That said, we’re OK sharing those, but if it touches the campaign, you probably won’t see it here since we don’t want to spoil it for anyone else.

Make sure to keep an eye out on our Modern Warfare review, which will be available sometime after launch.

Steam Remote Play Raises Questions of Local Multiplayer’s Future

An announcement by a Steam product designer has been making waves recently as it announced a new twist on split-screen multiplayer. Going by the name of Steam: Remote Play Together, this new system will allow users to play local-coop games at a distance via an active internet connection.

This announcement means that both new and classic local split-screen games will have another lease on life. But what does this signify for the overall falling focus on this same-couch gameplay?

Many of our older readers will have grown up on local coop. This was a simple necessity a few years ago, as the internet in these days was not fast, cheap, or ubiquitous enough to prove a viable option for many.

Instead, many of our purchases were based on the idea of getting the most out of playing with our friends. Since this made local games so popular, this target became a natural trend of the developers and publishers of the time. Since then, this form of gaming has rapidly fallen out of favor.

Instead of couch coop, we now have to use the internet or rely on the hot-swap method. This method, of simply switching turns still works as well as it ever has, at least. Whether through lives in God of War on PS4 or spins on the slot games on websites like Cherry Casino, we still derive enormous satisfaction from this form of gaming, with the latter showing just how much iGaming titles have almost joined forces with conventional gaming. The appeal, in other words, is still there.

We mention this because of the possibilities which Steam’s new feature offers. In essence, this is a game streaming service. The game is hosted on one computer and then sent to the other. This is a similar system to Google Stadia aims to accomplish, and what PSNow has been doing for years.

So, what if we went in the opposite direction? It is entirely feasible that, with the same technology, it could be possible to stream multiple full online multiplayer games to the same computer or TV. In theory, this would allow any online-only multiplayer game to become a split-screen one, and this is an idea we find infinitely more interesting than the alternative.

Of course, such systems would still suffer from the same limitations which affect current streaming services. High bandwidth internet connections such as cable would become absolute necessities. Playing anywhere not close to a data center would incur so much latency as to render the entire operation pointless. However, these are issues which are being solved as technology improves and so they should at least massively diminish in the near future.

The best thing about this type of theoretical technological adaption is that the systems needed for it to exist are already in operation. Today, it would require little more than a HUD/UI redesign, as well as some changes to how the resolution is handled, and it could be in operation.

Standing in the way is the question of appeal. While many of us would much prefer this option to what Valve is trying with Steam: Remote Play Together, there is still the issue of financial pull. No matter how simple this idea is if it lacks the financial appeal, its operation is effectively a non-starter.

Let’s hope enough players get out there and ask for such a system, as we’d love to return to playing games like we used to.

Report: Early Copies of Modern Warfare Are Being Sold for $250 Each

Just yesterday, we reported that early copies of Modern Warfare are already out into the wild. It seems there’s more than just happening, as there are early copies of Modern Warfare for sale, even!

Twitch streamer VonGarcon claims that he bought a load of Modern Warfare copies and is selling them for $250 each! To prove his claims, he has posted a picture of him with loads of Modern Warfare discs. Given how the discs are in crystal clear cases and not your standard PS4 retail packaging, which means that these copies are from a rental place or something, and probably aren’t meant for sale.

According to VonGarcon, he doesn’t know how the early copies of Modern Warfare was obtained, and that he purchased them for resale. One of IGN’s sources have told the publication that barcodes on the packaging suggest that these copies were taken from one of Redbox’s facilities.

I don’t know about you, but paying $250 for a game that’s going to be released in just a few days isn’t really a smart thing to do. I mean, you can’t even play multiplayer, and there’s also a patch required to get past the title screen (if you’re connected to the ‘net). That said, be mindful of campaign spoilers, as there’s sure to be some idiot who will want to spoil it for people.

In other Modern Warfare news, it’s been confirmed now that the black and white death effect is now gone! Ping meters are also present in the console version of the game, too.

GTA 6 Is Now Officially on the Horizon

As soon as Sony confirmed that a new PlayStation would be launched in 2020, it always seemed likely that it would only be a matter of time until we heard some solid information about the next version of ‘Grand Theft Auto.’ Gone are the days when multiple versions of Rockstar Games’ most famous intellectual property would see several releases on the same platform. The making of a new GTA game takes years, and once it’s been released, it’s expected to keep running for several years beyond that. One per console is now about the right ratio.

We still don’t have an official release date for the highly-anticipated sixth version of Grand Theft Auto, but we have as close to a confirmation as we’re likely to receive that we can expect to see it in 2020 – possibly close to the time Sony release the PlayStation 5, and Microsoft’s Xbox Scarlett (final name to be confirmed) see launch dates of their own.

Looking For Help

The basis for the rumors of an impending GTA 6 release date has been sparked by the fact that Rockstar has been reaching out for help in putting the finishing touches to a top-secret project. The Scottish games development company has enlisted fellow Scots Ruffian Games to work on ‘unspecified’ games, and Ruffian has subsequently been advertising for computer game development experts to come in on the project. So far, they’ve posted vacancies for engineers, graphic designers, and scriptwriters. That sounds like a major undertaking, and the only major undertaking that Rockstar is known to have right now is the next ‘Grand Theft Auto’ game.

Interestingly, every single one of the job specifications listed with the vacancies says that candidates must have experience with working on multiplayer games for the current generation of consoles. That may be an indication that multiplayer will be an even bigger element of the next GTA than it has been for GTA 5. Although the single-player campaign mode of GTA 5 was one of the longest in the series so far, it pales in comparison to the amount of content Rockstar has currently released for the online multiplayer version of the game. If it’s now been decided that multiplayer is the priority, that may mean that the single-player mode is scaled back this time around. That would be consistent with some of the rumors we’ve heard about the sixth installment in the wildly popular series.

The Rumor Mill

According to some sources who claim to have knowledge of the Rockstar plan, the new game will break new ground. If the rumors are correct, it will be the first GTA game to have a female lead, and that female gangster will be the only playable character in the story. That would mean a total change of strategy from GTA 5, which saw three main protagonists wreaking havoc all over the game’s expansive world. That isn’t to say that having one character means having less story, but it wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume that a linear, one-character story would be a shorter one.

There are some rumors to the contrary, though. We’ve also heard that there may be as many as five playable characters in the game, and that the United States of America may not be the setting. Instead, the story could take place in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, and the timeframe may be the 1960s or 1970s. GTA has dabbled with journeying into the past before, but not in a different country, and never outside of the USA or the UK. Even if just one of the rumors turns out to be accurate, it seems like we’ll be getting a whole new type of GTA this time around.

Casino Contingencies?

One thing we will be interested to see is whether Rockstar attempt to implement any aspects of the Diamond Hotel and Casino in their next game. They put many hours of development time into making the casino available in GTA 5, only to run into trouble when they attempted to make it available to players. To the company’s surprise, several territories where real-life gambling is banned also forbade their citizens to take part in virtual gambling, and so blocked access to the casino.

Rockstar’s take on the matter was that as no real money can be won from the GTA casino, it can’t be classed as gambling. Countries such as China and Argentina, who have blocked the casino, see no difference between the GTA casino and legitimate digital gambling games like UK casino games. The issue stems from the fact that players can pay for chips with real money, and so the territories in question have come to look at it as if it were a mobile slots game you can put money into, but not take money out of. The fact that nobody would log onto a mobile slots website if that were they way they functioned seems to be lost on them.

As it’s likely Rockstar will want the game to be playable for as many people as possible, they may take the decision not to do anything that might see their next release being banned, and therefore cut out any casino content this time around. That would mean that the Diamond Hotel and Casino project would be written off as a failed experiment. That would be unfortunate, but understandable.

So When’s The Likely Date?

We know the new PlayStation will become available somewhere between October and December 2020 – Sony is particularly keen to make sure it’s there for buyers before Christmas next year, when it’s likely to be a much-requested gift. As such, we’d expect the new GTA game to arrive within the same window of time. Although Ruffian’s help has been requested, we’d be surprised if preliminary work hasn’t been done on the game already. It seems unlikely that something as huge as a new ‘Grand Theft Auto’ game could be completely coded and released within twelve months.

It may even be the case that the game launches for the existing generation of consoles first, and is then followed by an ‘enhanced’ version for the new generation further down the line. There will be a delay between the new consoles becoming available and existing console owners moving on to the next generation, so it wouldn’t make good business sense for Rockstar to leave PS4 and Xbox One players out of the reckoning.

Whether it’s got one playable character or five, and whether it’s in Vice City or Brazil, we’re just looking forward to the next stage in the evolution of one of the all-time greats in video gaming!

Borderlands 3 Bloody Harvest Details and Schedule Announced in New Trailer

If you’re a Borderlands 3 player and you’re looking forward to new content, that wish is being granted this week by Gearbox! Today, the Borderlands 3 Bloody Harvest details have been announced, which includes the schedule, and some of the content players can expect.

The Borderlands 3 Bloody Harvest schedule has been revealed, and this seasonal event runs from October 24 to December 5, 2019.

What can players expect? There are new enemy types, the Terror combat mechanic, a new unique Legendary weapon, a new boss fight against Captain Haunt and more! If you manage to beat the challenges in Bloody Harvest, you can earn cosmetic rewards such as Vault Hunter skins, a weapon trinket and other goodies.

For details, read on below straight from Gearbox:

To participate, you’ll need to have progressed far enough in the story campaign to have unlocked Sanctuary III, which happens early on. While Bloody Harvest is active, you’ll notice a peculiar newcomer aboard your ship: Maurice, a surprisingly friendly Saurian who can speak to you via a device of Tannis’ own invention. As Borderlands 3 Creative Director Paul Sage explained during The Borderlands Show, “Maurice is your guide to all of [Borderlands 3’s] seasonal events.”

GOING TO HECK

When Bloody Harvest begins, Maurice will offer you a repeatable mission that must be completed in order to reach Heck, the spooky setting for Borderlands 3’s Bloody Harvest. Maurice kindly asks that you collect a certain amount of Hecktoplasm, an item that drops from slain Haunted enemies. You’ll encounter Haunted enemies all over the galaxy during Bloody Harvest; you’ll know them by their ghostly green glow. Once you’ve collected enough Hecktoplasm, Maurice will open a portal to Heck aboard Sanctuary III that will transport you to the creepy domain of Captain Haunt and his undead minions.

Once you’ve managed to stop shaking in your boots at the sheer spookiness of Heck, you’ll have to fight your way through an undead army of Maliwan soldiers who are rising from their graves with ambitions of revenge. You’ll also encounter freaky fauna including flying, fire-breathing Rakk-o’-Lanterns and wretched Ratch that’ve gorged themselves on blood. Deep within the depths of Heck lies Captain Haunt, the bony final boss of Bloody Harvest.

COLLECTING NEW GEAR AND COSMETICS

Your enemies in Heck have a chance to drop gear that will only be available during Bloody Harvest, including Fearmonger, a new Legendary shotgun that packs a supernatural punch. You might also find Anointed weapons that play off the new Terror mechanic introduced in Bloody Harvest. Haunted enemies can inflict the Terror debuff, which will affect your aim and partially cloud your vision—but with these new Anointed effects, you can turn Terror into a beneficial boost of power.

There’s also a set of seasonal cosmetic items which won’t drop in Heck, but are still exclusive to the Bloody Harvest event. During the event, you have the chance to earn a skin for each of the four Vault Hunters (which also apply to Moze’s mech Iron Bear and Fl4K’s pets), a seasonal ECHO Device Skin, a shrunken head Weapon Trinket, and finally a ghostly Global Weapon Skin, all of which you can check out in the trailer up top.

To unlock these items, you’ll need to complete a new set of Challenges that are exclusive to Bloody Harvest. Progress towards completing these Challenges is tracked automatically, and each cosmetic item is unlocked via completing a certain number of these Challenges.

Once the patch for Borderlands 3 drops this week for Bloody Harvest, we’ll let our readers know.

The Back to Back TI Winners

One of the most hyped and anticipated esports tournaments is The International, also known as the TI. It is a competition that is held for the highly popular Dota 2 game, and the reigning champions are the esports group known as “OG.” They are back to back winners, and in this article, we will explore how the group managed to come out victorious in consecutive years.

What is TI?

TI (The International) is a worldwide Dota 2 esports competition that is held annually by the developers. It is a highly prestigious event within the esports calendar, and there is always top talent on show. The competition was first held in 2011 at Gamescom, and it has a total of 18 teams competing. You can even bet on the competition, and this is one of the best ways to watch. By finding the most popular esports betting sites, you are able to place a stake in a variety of esports teams. Twelve of the teams involved in TI are directly invited, and the other 6 gain entry through winning various regional brackets. The prize pool is crowdfunded and has increased every single year. The prize pool for the 2019 edition was over $34 million, which shows the huge financial incentive that this tournament offers.

Who is OG?

OG is a highly respected esports team who specializes in Dota 2; however, there also take part in other games such as Super Smash Bros. They were founded in 2015 and are primarily based in Europe. Some members of the group were already fairly established before they joined.

The Road to Back to Back Championships

The greatest triumph for OG has come in winning the TI in consecutive years. This has gained them huge prestige and led to a massive buzz around the team. The road to back to back TI championships was by no means simple. The team members have described the immense difficulties that they overcame to clinch both championships. The competition was fierce, and there was a unique atmosphere in Shanghai for the 2019 TI. Dota is hugely popular in China, and this led to a fantastic crowd reception. Fans are hugely supportive of teams, and they have a genuine passion, which is built over a prolonged period of time. Winning the competition in 2018 was a huge accomplishment, however retaining it in 2019 truly showed that OG was the cream of the crop. OG were able to maintain themselves at the top by rebuilding. Their hard work and immense sacrifices eventually paid off.

Closing Thoughts

The International is a highly coveted esports tournament, and therefore winning it back to back is a hugely impressive feat. You will now be more informed on how it was accomplished, and the amount of work that the team put in to be successful. OG is an esports team that is clearly on an upward trajectory, and they have a fantastic chance of pulling off three in a row at next year’s TI competition. We estimate that the 2020 iteration of TI will have an even bigger prize pool.

Modern Warfare Connection Meter Available for Consoles, Black & White Effect Death Effect Taken Out

If you played the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare beta on consoles, you no doubt saw/experienced how the game didn’t tell you if you were lagging or had a bad connection. That will change in the final game, as Infinity Ward has added the Modern Warfare a connection meter for consoles!

This was confirmed by Reddit user sw3ar (apparently, he’s one of the people who managed to snag an early copy), who posted an image of the Modern Warfare options screen, which showed that players can toggle the connection meters.

This is definitely a welcome addition, and should help console players determine whether they’re lagging or not in a match.

However, the good news isn’t stopping there. If you’re one of the many people annoyed that when near death, the player’s point-of-view turned black and white, rejoice! We can now confirm that this has been changed, too!

The same Reddit user posted a video of a character’s health went down to 14 from 100, and hos screen didn’t turn black and white, but just got red splotches on the screen, which is par for the course for the franchise. Check out the video of it below.

Once again, this is definitely good news for multiplayer fans. This black and white effect not only was annoying, but it even affected gameplay as well. If your character was close to dying, that black and white effect can make you not see enemies — especially if they’re hiding in a corner or somewhere dark.

Here’s a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Main Menu First Look, Combat Training Only Accessible Mode

Earlier today, we posted that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare early copies are already making their way out before the game’s October 25 release date. Not only that, but some people even managed to bypass the day one update that prevented the game from loading to post the Modern Warfare main menu, and even the only playable mode available now.

Thanks to reliable TheGamingRevolution who shared the screens (even though he admits they’re not his).

Modern Warfare main menu:

For those who aren’t connected to the internet, it seems you’ll be able to load the Modern Warfare disc without being prompted to download a patch, which means you can go past the title screen. Having said that, the only mode currently available now is the Combat Training mode, which teaches the basics.

Of course, being able to test out weapons in Combat Training is still better than having no access at all.

Given how each year’s Call of Duty game gets leaked, this is definitely not a surprise. Hopefully, no one spoils or leaks the campaign, but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone finds a way to do that too.
